Flower Power

Pairing: Copia/Reader, Papa Emeritus IV/Reader

Summary: A walk through the gardens with your Papa is always peaceful, full of love. But an idea pops in your head, you just couldn’t help yourself.

Copia always enjoyed taking alone time with you to walk through the gardens that you’re always working so hard on, praising you on your work. The sunlight was hitting the colors of the flowers and plants just right, making everything look vibrant. Not only did the plants and flowers look beautiful in the glow of the sunset, it defined his bare features. From his adorable freckles, his mismatched eyes that always focused on you, and his beautiful nose all just seemed so perfect.

“How was your day, amore?” He breaks the silence, tangling his fingers in yours to take your hand.

“It was okay,” you answer, looking down for a second before turning your attention back to him, “I kept busy out here and in the greenhouse today. How was yours?”

“Eh it was okay as well, quite busy as usual.”

He stops suddenly, catching you off guard, “Everything okay?” You ask, giving him a puzzled look.

“Oh, si, si. You are a master at your craft, mio cara, these arches along with the gardens are bellissima.”

“Well thank you, I try my best,” you blush, smiling at him as he walks over to the arches, admiring the work.

“Sei il benvenuto, amore mio,” he turns back to you, taking your chin in his hand and pressing a gentle kiss to your lips.

An idea pops in your head, “Oh! Stay here! I have something for you.” You suddenly disappear into the flowers.

Copia stands there, looking around to try to find you, wondering what you’re up to. He puts his hands in his pockets, anxious to know what it is you have for him that’s got you so excited.

After a few minutes, you yell out to him to close his eyes, “No peeking!”

You come back, gently placing a flower crown on top of his head, stepping back with a big smile on your face. “Okay, open your eyes!”

Copia opens his eyes, feeling what you placed on his head, “What is this, a flower crown?”

“Yes, I couldn’t help myself. You look great. A beautiful crown for my beautiful Papa.”

He gives you a big toothy smile, pulling you into a tight hug, looking down at you with flushed cheeks. “Grazie amore mio, you’re always so full of ideas.” Taking your cheeks into his hands, he firmly kisses you, you could feel the smile against your lips as you wrap your arms around his neck. You two stay there for a while, not letting go of one another as he kisses you more.

“The sun is setting, why don’t we go up for the night, dolce?”

“That sounds lovely.”

He's also giving "I care so much about my friends and I have to protect them but the love I have for one is so strong that it's distracting me AND it's not fair to the others"

Like there is so much love contained in the Orym and also so much guilt.

The number one most endearing thing to me about tgcf is the way the flashbacks make me feel like I’m watching Hong-er grow up. I feel like I’m watching a montage of that trembling little kid gather every ounce of courage and strength the world has to offer and slowly learn how to become somebody he can be content with. Somebody who has likes and dislikes, desires and preferences, and especially the freedom of choice, the freedom of anything, really. So now when I see Hua Cheng, legendary ghost king Crimson Rain Sought Flower, all I can see is that little kid who grew up. And that kid was always loved by the one he wanted to catch up to most in the world. He achieved exactly what he wanted and he deserves every ounce of power he’s acquired.

Blue roses where THE shit for me when I was eleven

So I'm gonna try and do @batmanisagatewaydrug's book bingo this year and hopefully not give up before getting bingo somehow.

For fantasy, I read The Gilded Crown by Marianne Gordon.

And I fucking loved every second of it. For a debut novel, it's amazing. It's definitely the best debut novel I've ever read; I struggle to come up with any flaws of it really.

Also I tandem read this with the audiobook which was narrated by Kristin Atherton and that's also one of the best narrations I've heard.

The book itself about a woman called Hellevir who is able to enter Death and trade with Death to bring people back to life. She gets herself entangled with the royal family, the De Neïds, when she brings back the Princess Sullivain after she is assassinated, and soon she gets trapped under their thumb, forced to bring Sullivain back again if she dies again. She also begins to fall in love with Sullivain.

That's like the main plotline in the book, but there are others weaving throughout like the presence of the Onaistian Faith in Rochidain - the capital city - versus the old ways that Hellevir follows as well as Hellevir's relationship with her Ma, Pa and brother Farvor, the search for the assassin, and Hellevir's tradings with Death.

Her tradings with Death were my favourite part of the book by far, everything about Death as a realm and as a person was so well written and so intriguing and fit so well with the worldbuilding outside of Death. Death himself was also so intriguing and I'm desperate to know more so I'm really excited for the sequel and thank god it comes out this year.

Her relationship with her Ma was a close second though. Without getting into spoiler territory, it was a very meaty relationship with a lot to chew on but was also very tender. It made me cry at one point.

Also when I decided to do this book bingo I was like, I'm gonna add my favourite quote at the end and I'm struggling to pick because I have so many favourite quotes. So I've limited it to 5:

"Leaning against a tree was a man of black. His hair was black, his coat was black, his gloves were black. An absolute black, as if no light could reflect from it. It drew her gaze and held it, threatened to pull her in and drown her in its absence of light. His eyes were the blackest of all and watched her with amusement."

"‘Did you know Death has pockets?’ Hellevir asked quietly. Milandre raised her eyebrows, tilting herself slightly, as she always did, so that her good ear could catch what the missing ear couldn’t.

‘Yes. He has pockets. Why would Death need pockets?’"

"‘The city is a carcass crawling with creatures that want nothing more than to consume her, and plucking out one will not stop the decay.’"

He was a bumbling idiot and he needed to make up for it. Contrary to popular belief, death isn't always punishment. Both Szeth and Kaladin sought it for relief.

I don't think Elhokar deserved to die. Not holding his child in his arms, barely two to three years old. That little boy had only just lost his mother, and then minutes later, he got to watch his father die.

Gavilar failed Elhokar. Failed to teach him, to properly love him or guide him. Elhokar wanted to be better, for his kingdom and for his son who deserved a better father.

Little Gavinar....did not deserve to see his father die so brutally that day.
