I haven’t worked on her since May I believe and then summer had me all sorts of distracted so I kinda forgot about her for a bit :V And I know I said I’d make a comic bout Pico’s reaction to her first but I kinda lost steam for that.

Meet Pico and Clem’s mother Charlotte but you can just call her Mama Char :D Out of universe she got her name from a opossum plushie I own but in universe Todd played the movie Charlotte’s Web for her and she just instantly grew a liking to it :3
She likes being in flowerbeds the most(plus napping in em) and helps with farming/gardening and likes foraging too. She even added pouches to her dress to hold all her babies and finds it so much easier to carry them that way than carrying them all on her back when she was smaller. She’s a very sweet and friendly lady and would honestly accept anyone as her child cuz ROTTMNT NEEDS MORE MOM FIGURES THAT NOTHING BAD HAPPENS TO THEM

And Pico of course is gonna make sure nothing bad happens to her as part of his protective nature.
But I think the turtle fellas would grow to like her, Donnie especially cuz she does compliment and acknowledge all the hard work he puts into building the dog park that her family is able to live safely at and is just so very impressed by that ( and you know how Don is when it comes to parental validation lmao)

I had planned for the next page to be out before the end of January...you can see how that went given that it's now the middle of March lmao
I have the next two pages sketched and planned out, I just haven't gotten to finishing it due to my own silliness lol
But now that Season 4 of LMK is out, I can get back to working on the comic, hopefully sooner rather than later. I just gotta re-teach myself how to draw sonic characters again first.
Also, for those who don't know, reason I chose to make a comic for my Sonic Boom AU specifically, rather than any other AU, is because it's one of those interests I ALWAYS come circling back to. I tried to do a comic with Mao Mao, but I ended up losing interest in the show eventually.
The au comic is also meant to be practice for myself for storytelling through comics since one of my series, The Gift from Paradise, might become a web comic series down the line in the distant future. Also, I have a full time job on top of everything (and planning to start college in a couple months lol)
So yeah, the ShadowLight AU is still happening, just VERY VEEEERRRY slowly because I am an absolute fool. I wouldn't keep too close of an eye on it for now.
BUT when I am closer to finishing the pages, I'll make a post announcing a rough estimate of when they'll be posted.

SO HEY I’M BACK???? A little ramble, followed by something I want to ask y’all about if you’d be interested in. Sorry for my departure. Life just... really got in the way. I’m still dealing with a lot, and things still aren’t very easy at the moment-- but I desperately needed to do something that gives me a bit of purpose at the moment. Making this comic for others to enjoy was the singlemost eye opening experience for me in a long time, and it also made me realize communication was an entire area of art I was lacking in. Sure, it’s still mostly just messing around and nothing even remotely close to serious, but it’s also a nice testing ground for learning and experimentation with a subject that I don’t have an extremely personal stake in. (Something like working on your own comic, where there’s a looming pressure to always have to make it perfect.) Perfectionism deters experimentation for the sake of staying within the limits of what you know, fear of not meeting your own expectations, all ultimately leading to you never learning new things because you never feel ready to put the pencil to paper in the first place... (I’m on my second attempt at illustrating my own series lmao) Here, I can just mess around without feeling any pressure, and the characters are all familiar to us and don’t require tons of backstory to establish, meaning we can just jump right in to the fun stuff! (And then that, in turn, makes learning and experimenting easier and more approachable!) I realize I still need to learn a lot of basics for comics before I think I’m ready to do my own stuff, and that’s what I really want to do here. So I wanna thank you all for being my guinea pigs (affectionate) in this. Your response to it has meant the world to me, and I really want to get back to that place where I get the warm fuzzies from seeing you all react to whatever weird situation gets drawn from my drawing tablet.
SO ABOUT THE THING I WANTED TO ASK Y’ALL:
I see that Tumblr now has options to allow you to support creators on here, which is actually kinda awesome to see! Would y’all potentially be interested in maybe seeing some extras like sketches, designs, maybe even drawing livestreams, and perhaps some more elaborate art like pinups (I love drawing me some pinups) if I were to have a small subscription option available? (This would never affect the readability of the comic, and no part of AR will ever be behind a subscription.) I’ve been facing an immense amount of financial strain in my life after my whole living situation changed, and things have been pretty rough for my roommates and I. I just can’t morally accept tips unless I can offer you something worthwhile in return, as it’d eat my conscience alive. (I already feel guilty just asking this ngl) Any income made from this would exclusively go to securing rent or food.
Let me know what you think, and don’t be afraid to be honest. I want your genuine opinion, after all :p

Rambling about my (dä fan)art...
I was writing another post and this kinda got out of hand and turned into me talking about my art overall. I’m gonna put this under the cut because I don’t know if people are interested in my art nor especially in my thought about it and my “art history” basically, but if you are, then I hope you enjoy.
And yes, this is gonna be about my die ärzte fanart mainly!
So let’s start with the HELL coverart drawing because that’s what I was talking about originally:

I’m extremely happy with how the drawing turned out in the end and I like that feeling of success when I’m happy with something I have created. That is not always self-evident with myself. More than often I have plain hated my drawings or have felt like there should be something done differently, or something that I could always improve at and do better. So this feeling where I’m actually content and happy with what I have created is something new and different. I have a dopamine rush every time I look at that drawing. I like the drawing. I think it looks nice. And I’m extremely happy about this fact and I am not afraid of admitting it. Perfectionism is a curse and a gift. It can sometimes make your life a living hell when something that is perfectly good still feels like it’s not enough. When everyone else sees that what you have done is actually good or even great but your brain just keeps repeating how it’s shit and everyone else is just delusional and that they don’t see what you see. And this is like the polar opposite of that feeling. It wasn’t other people who were delusional, it was you and youself all along. You were the one seeing the image in your head and the drawing not matching that image. Other people saw only what you had created and couldn’t compare it to anything. And that doesn’t mean it was never good.
So whenever I do these comics and comic style drawings nowadays, I just feel so happy. I feel that I am no longer failing them, I feel like I can draw the image I see in my head. I finally feel like I can draw, I have some skills, I’m not a professional and maybe not as good as everyone else but I’m good at what I’m doing. This is my thing and I’m good at it and it’s enough. And I love it when I feel like I’m improving. For years I felt like I was stuck, like my skills would have been glitching somehow, I didn’t get better no matter how much I drew. But I guess I tried too much and was too harsh on myself because I believed that a drawing is good only when no reference photos have been used. And I sucked at drawing without them. I still do! I was staring at the Hell coverart the whole time I was drawing! I wouldn’t have been able to do this if I didn’t! And this feels particularly good also because this is the first time I have tried something different with these comics. I have never tried to draw a photo or existing picture with this style. I have only drawn my comics and those I have created all by myself. The clothes come from what I have seen in videos and photos but the plots are created by me alone, with a idea coming from somewhere actual usually, as inspirations do.
For comics I do look at reference photos of people sitting or standing, or I look at the mirror, or even take photos of my own hand to be able to draw something. And that’s lots of fun and also challenging because I’m mixing there my old habit of portrait drawing with my less serious comic book style but I really really do like the combination. It also makes me feel that I am memorizing what I draw and the next time when I need to draw that same posture, I no longer need the reference photos because they’re no in my brain. And in my muscle memory. My hand remembers how to do the lines now.

Here you can see one of the sketches I did in 2018 - I had this image in my head and I wanted to draw it and I just... drew it in my sketchbook. Didn’t use pencil. But now I’ve noticed I like doing these on proper paper instead of the sketchbook AND it’s so much more fun to first draw the sketch with the pencil and then draw on it with the fineliners. That I have always done with the comics (apart from one) because they take more time than these quick sketches. But here you can see Farin’s legs on the first image - I think I might have looked at reference photos for that but then it was so much easier to do the to the comic I made in 2019.
I have now also figured out that a big part of my style is not to draw just simple straight lines. I like making those sketch-like lines even with the marker. They look more rough but that’s something I like seeing with my art. That’s what I was missing when I was staring at the lines I had drawn before and hated every detail of them. They were too clean and neat.

^These two I have also drawn on my sketchbook in 2018 and I don’t really know why. I guess I was still a bit stupid and didn’t really realize I’m drawing again. But anyway, they both were inspired by my own fanfiction I have written a long time ago. It’s one of my favorite self-written fanfics and it had these two scenes I just saw in my head and felt like I could try drawing them. Maybe that’s why they are in my sketchbook, I wasn’t sure if they were going to turn out even good... The marker around the second one obviously was shit and the paper wasn’t good for it, and I never finished with it so it looks a bit weird. Do I need to say that I really enjoy drawing very small, repetative details, like those tiles? It’s so soothing, almost like a therapy.
I think that quitting antidepressants in 2013 has done so much good for my creativity. If you compare my work from 2011 to 2019, the difference is huge - all are just parts from my comics:

Can you guess see the difference? But have to admit I am jealous for myself for how I have drawn Farin’s hair to the 2011 one and maybe have forgotten to color Farin’s arm but... I actually had so long pause from drwing (~8 years) that I forgot how I did that and had to use THAT as a reference when I was trying to draw late 80s Farin’s at some point last or this year :D
Anyway, my style with the shadows is a little different when I use colored pencils than when I use markers. This is from my latest comic from this year, where I experimented with Promarkers the way I had never done before and I really like how it came to be:

I have owned this set of Promarkers (black + 5 greys) for years and have never really used them, apart from the black which I usually used for the thick lines anyway. And wanted to see if I could find some use for the greys too! (Yes that’s Bela back there - this comic was an alternative ending for Für Immer music video :D)
And I wanna end this post with a face progress comparison for all three. During this I also noticed that before I used to draw their side profiles and it was really difficult to find images where I’d have drawn from from the front. And nowadays I have mainly drawn them from the front and it’s hard to find side profiles! Interesting! Here’s one of Farin and Bela from a drawing I made this year:

Also the hand that was so much fun to draw but I also took photos of my own hand in that posture in order to even draw that - that was fun! :D
But here are the last three images - using the HELL one as the last for each, of course:

Bela has always been the easiest to draw. And the first one of these three is actually from my first ever Bela&Farin comic! I didn’t color their skin back then. With the next ones I already did color their skins too but I used darker colors to do the shadows. Nowadays I do the shadows with fineliners. Or it depends - that 2019 one doesn’t have that lol.

Damn it was so difficult to find something where I’d have draw Farin from the front :D And I see the HELL one literally is my second (or third) time drawing Farin with his grin. Or if you count all those numerous extra mouths I drew because I failed the first one, then I have drawn his grin at least 15 times by now. I probably can draw his teeth with no reference photos from now on.

I haven’t drawn Rod too many times. I can actually count about... 5 times? And then there’s only 2 times when I’ve drawn his side profile but he’s at the background. I don’t know if I’ve ever really succeeded at that, I usually try to draw his head a more round and his eyes smaller than for Bela and Farin and I was actually bit worried for the HELL one and was wondering if I’m going to ruin the whole thing. But in fact, that was actually easiest of them to draw. And STILL I’m surprised by how alike he looks in that last one. In fact, I think his dacial features are perfect for a carricature drawing so you don’t need to do more than a few lines for the mouth and it looks like his mouth. The middle one was for a drawing I made for a friend and with this I actually looked at photos so that I could draw some of his hairstyles from the 90s and I liked this one the best and it was also quite easy to draw too.
Do I even have to say that I’m not extremely motivated what comes to drawing? I feel like my creative has become what it has never been before. I still don’t really know what to draw but I just feel that whatever it is I’ll start next, it will be good. And if it doesn’t... who cares? I had so much fun with those extra mouths  of Farin which was maybe visible from the video I filmed, and that is what makes drawing worth it. Before I took the drawing process so seriously and a mistake felt like the end of the world but now I laugh at them and make fun of them and don’t take them too seriously. And I always have ways to fix these, or I can redraw. Just like I did with Farin’s mouth (or a half of his face actually) for this newest drawing. The most important thing is that I’m having fun and enjoying what I do, that way usually the outcome will also be a success.
I have now at least 2 dä comics on my to-do list (I don’t remember if there’s a third one too) + one pencil drawing that is halfway there. It will take one more night/day for it to get it finished. I also have probably 5 ideas for self-comics etc. in my sketchbook and I try to find some time to work on those. Or actually I have a plenty of time. Adhd, time blindness and executive dysfunction just make it feel as if I didn’t :D Can’t wait to get working on my next drawing projects, tho!
(I wish I knew how to make art for a living even but that’s a topic that will need its own post which I’m probably do in a near future if I don’t forget :D)

Cramp’s Comic Page Tutorial
So here is the turorial I’ve been wanting to do ever since my line art tip list
Just a quick reminder before we get started: I’m by no means an expert and I still have a lot to learn so everything I’ll say from now one is just part of my personal method of making a comic page and thereby should be taken with a grain of salt  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 
Okay now let’s get started :D
The Materials

These are the tools I use. I’m mostly working with drawing nibs, ink pens, copics and so on. I’ll show wich tool I use for each step.
Step 1: Storyboard

This scribbly abomination is a page from my sketchbook. I wrote the script for the story this page is taken from in there. Since it’s just for roughly planning a page the drawings can remain as messy as you want. 
If you’re making a longer story it is advisable to always plan a few pages ahead to avoid similar looking panel layouts, wich can lead to a stale reading experience (unless of course you’re purposefully using it for artistic effects)

Step 2: Sketch

Once you’re content with your layout you can start drawing on the drawing board. I use 250 g/m² size A3 paper. For sketching I’d recommend tone H, 2H, HB graphite pencils.
When the sketching is done we can start with the ink!
Step 3: Panels And Speech Bubbles

The first ones to be inked are the panel frames and the speech bubbles. Sometimes I do these with brushes but for this page the frames have to be clear and straight forward so I draw with a nib and a ruler (careful when using a ruler for it can smudge the ink very easily. And let me tell you it’s FRUSTRATING) 
The type of drawing nib for step 3, wich is perfect for drawing very even lines:

Step 4: Foreground and Characters

Next up the foreground (wich includes in many cases most of the depicted characters). You can emphasize perspective and plasticity of the characters by varying the line width. I did this by outlining the close-up in the middle panel with a brush to get even thicker lines. 
For everyone else I used my favourite nib wich allows different line sizes by applying pressure:

Step 5: Background

The background and - for this page also - speed lines (my nemesis :/) are done with ink pens. The small sized pens can draw very fine lines wich is perfect for backgrounds and details. Ink pens have a slightly lighter tone than real ink wich again is beneficial in this case because it helps to set the characters apart from their enviroment.

Step 6: Area Inking

Now we fully ink the wider spaces. Since this is a black and white comic I have to rely on stark contrasts to make it work without colours (in moments like these I often regret making this story take place mostly at night :’D).
 The bigger black areas get inked with a small brush.

For the smaller spaces I often abuse this nib here wich is actually for writing because it produces very thick lines:

Step 7: Erasure and Opaque White

When the ink is dry we finally erase the pencil sketches. Then we check the page for drawing mistakes such as ink smudges and spills. We repair them by using either Tipp-Ex or Opaque White. As you can see I also applied little white spots in the background in order to create a night sky full of stars (it’s a simple but effective method :3)

Step 8: Grey Areas

I use it sparsely for this project since I want to accomplish the most artistic effects with the black and white contrasts. But for the grey areas I use either grey copics (characters) or grey pencils (backgrounds).

Step 9: Lettering:
Now for the final step I have to say it’s still in the making because I’m currently still experimenting with the font I wanna use and the way I plan on making it (I haven’t decided yet weither I’ll do the lettering by hand or digitally). But let’s just say once it’s done I’d usually scan the page, polish it a bit via photoshop and Indesign.
So what you see here is a rough translation of the dialogue (I apologize for the messy text editing, I’ll work on it in nearby future) ^^

Can you give us art tips on anatomy? I wanna make a comic but I'm having a hard time with the body language aspects of it, and you have great body movements in your art!! Also I love your art and style in general ♥️♥️
Babe, I went through warped anatomy hell to get ever remotely close to where I am and it’s still pretty up and down XD Look at these influences.

Akane, your elbows shouldn’t bend at your hips. That is the only thing about anatomy that I know for sure, is that your elbows bend at the waist unless you have exceptionally long arms and short torso.
For one, don’t be discouraged if your anatomy isn’t perfect. In some cases, it can give your art an identity. One of the best ways to get a pose to feel balanced, in my opinion, is to start suuuuper bare bones. Meaning, the shoulders are circles, a line to show the curve of the spine, blocks for hands. This helps get the pose down before you flesh it out.

That way you can change something without sacrificing some awesome detail work you put into it. 
As for comics and making a pose more dynamic, make a quick sketch. You might’ve seen some storyboard sketches that are super rough but help the animation team understand how a scene is going to flow. Do this for your comics.

This will help you lay out a scene and speech bubbles, nail down facial expressions, test an idea to see if it will work or not. Sometimes it’ll help you realize an idea in your head doesn’t quite work on paper.

I’m for sure no master of anatomy, but these are the tricks I try to use. Also to practice drawing pictures of real people in my style. That’s where repetition can build muscle memory. And for sure I look up pose references all the time when I get stumped.

2019 year in review
So… The 2010’s are almost over. Huh. What a decade it’s been. Hard to comprehend how much has changed in 10 years. I can barely believe that I was in high school at the beginning of this decade, and now I’m a college graduate with 2 degrees who’s been working at the same job for the last 3 years. But trying to summarize the past 10 years in a single post is a good way to give myself an existential crisis, so let’s not do that! Instead, let’s just focus on 2019 because there has been more than enough shit that’s happened to me in this year to talk about.
PART 1 OF 2: 2019 AND 2020 GOALS AND RESOLUTIONS
Huh, looking back through my archives, I apparently didn’t make a tumblr post about my goals this year. I definitely had some, though. Lemme list ‘em off real quick, and then we’ll go through them point by point.
1)      Pay off all my student loans 2)      Finish some song comics 3)      Make art for my Redbubble account 4)      Finish the first rough draft/script of a game I wanted to make 5)      Practice ASL 6)      Sew some stuffed animals 7)      Finish some fan fictions 8)      Work on Ghost Switch 9)      AMVs 10)   Do some original writing 11)   Make illustrations for my fan fictions
Okay, first off, the student loans. I was actually SO CLOSE to successfully completing this one bUT THEN MY CAR HAD TO BE A WHINEY PISS BABY AND HAVE ITS ALTERNATOR DIE ON ME WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND THEN A BLOW OUT THREE WEEKS LATER.
GOD, if I had to summarize this year in two words, for me it would be “Car troubles”. I swear I spent more on auto repair in the first third of this year than I ever have just freakin’ OWNING a car. All four of my tires had to be replaced, my alternator failed and my car literally just SHUT OFF while I was driving, and I was barely able to coast into a gas station. Both my front breaks and rear breaks were worn down the metal and I only learned this when my car was barely able to stop after I had to slam the petal down full force!  I went in for an oil change, and they found some problems and then I didn’t get my car back for three days! I don’t even like owning a car! I hate driving! I hate my country’s refusal to provide universal, free public transportation! I NEVER ASKED FOR THIS!
Oh-kay… number 2. Finish some song comics. I didn’t finish any. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t work on them. I have made tiny progress, but that’s certainly better than no progress. One of these song comics I hope to be realizes is going to be a collab with one of my friends. It’ll be a long-time coming as it’s pretty low priority for the both of us, but if anyone else out there was disappointed with KH3’s ending, we’re gonna have ya’ covered… With SONG!
3. Make some redbubble art. I actually did this one! Not in the way I expected, but I added (technically) 3 new designs to my redbubble in the middle of the year. If you like butterflies and dragons, I got some product for you~!
Number 4, finish a script for a game I want to make. I… thought about this. I thought about this a lot, but I never put pen to paper, so… oops. It almost happened! I debated making this my main writing project for NaNoWriMo this year, but ended up having more inspiration for another story. Maybe next year? (god, I hope not. I don’t want to wait a full year just to write something)
Number 5, practice ASL. I just straight up didn’t do this and I only have myself to blame. Still keepin’ up that Danish Duolingo streak, though. 4 years going strong and not a day missed yet.
Number 6, sew some stuffed animals. Again, another one I just straight up didn’t do, but I have an excuse of trying to save money while my car crashed and burned in every other sense except literal this year. Hopefully 2020 will be different. I’ll definitely be able to pay off this last loan within the first half of 2020, and then I can start saving for whatever I want to buy.
Finish some fan fictions was number 7, and I did this! Well, I only finished, 1, but it was a story I’ve been working on for over 3 years, and it came out to over 200 THOUSAND words long, which is the longest thing I’ve ever written, and I’m quite proud of myself. Now that the big story is out of the way, and I’ve gotten into a good rhythm of working on Ghost Switch, maybe I can squeeze in some short writing sessions more frequently. (either that, or just wait for my car to break down again and then go on a writing spree in a pepboys. The lord and the fan fic discord know that’s solely why I finished my other fic this year)
Speaking of Ghost Switch, working on it was a goal this year too, and I did that! I kept it up all year and took a vacation in November and it was wonderful. While the major plot points have been in place since before I started drawing, I still need to script each arc beyond Snowdin, but hey, by the time we get there, it’ll be 2022 so I got time. (Note, don’t do this, kids. Script your stories and comics thoroughly before publishing. The road I’m on is paved with misery and pain and it will only end in tears unless I change lanes soon)
Number 9, amvs. Do people make AMVs anymore? Idk… the last one I made was... Jesus, 5 years ago? (it was a gravity falls/fall out boy crossover, if you were curious) I’ve been wanting to do 2 more for just as long, but in order for me to do that, I’d have to spend time re-watching the shows to find the footage, and then actually edit them together, and I just don’t…. feel like it. Maybe someday, but not any day soon.
10; do some original writing. I did this! For nanowrimo! I wrote the first draft of some original fiction I’ve been planning for a year or two now and it completely sucks! But it’s on paper now and I’m happy. Will I revise and edit it? Sure, but not for a while. I want to let it sit and forget about it and look at it with new eyes months from now so I can be sure I can make it better when time comes to rewrite.
11, make illustrations for my fan fics. Now that You Monster is done, I want to go back and add pictures to it. I didn’t do any this year, but I did keep a list of scenes I wanted to draw, so I have plenty of ideas to do as warm up sketches next year~ I kinda want to stream them~
So, that was 11 goals, and I successfully fulfilled 4 of them! That’s! Not a very good ratio… QmQ So, goals for 2020. Some I’m gonna keep from this year, some I’m gonna drop and some I’m gonna add. In short I would like to,
1)      Finish paying off that last student loan 2)      Put more stuff on my redbubble 3)      Illustrate my own fan fics 4)      Sew at least one stuffed animal 5)      Make an enamel pin 6)      Read one new book a month 7)      Write one page a day/Complete at least one new fan fic 8)      Learn Python or C# for the game I want to make 9)      Finish fully scripting Ghost Switch 10)   Boost my patreon
Most of these I think are pretty self-explanitory, but I’ll go into detail just a bit because I’m on a roll and typing my thoughts helps me feel less alone in the middle of the night when you’re super tired and you know you should probably go to sleep, but the toddler in you is throwing a tantrum and doesn’t wanna go to sleep just yet, but you can’t fight the progression of time either way.
Number 1- I should be able to reach this goal by the end of March. End of June at the absolute latest. Once that goal is met, my secret new year’s resolution will be unlocked as well!
Number 2- I want to put more art of my OCs on redbubble. These OCs are tied to the game I want to make. There’s already some art of them up there, but I want at least one piece for each character.
Number 3- Mostly for You Monster. Embrace the cardinal rule of fan fic and apply it to fan art. If you want to read about see art about certain ideas, scenarios, or what-ifs, you gotta make it yourself.
Number 4- I have 3 potential ideas to sew. One is definitely leagues easier than the other two and will probably be chosen if/when I have the time and materials.
Number 5- This year I got really, REALLY into the idea of making enamel pins. Unfortunately it’s a pretty big investment (like, $350 to make 100 pins you  might not even sell). If this happens, it’ll probably be towards the end of the year, and if I get enough interest. I’m currently torn between making an original enamel pin and one based off Undertale. We’ll just have to see where this goes.
Number 6- Back in 2018 when I paid off one of my many student loans, I rewarded myself by spending over 200 dollars in used books. All these books had a theme; they were focused on dragons because I have a problem. I have not yet read a single one of these books I have bought, and I would like to fix that. I have, like, 20 unread dragon books, and even if I only read 12 out of 20, I would consider that an amazing accomplishment and money well spent.
Number 7- I currently have about 8 different WIPs I could work on. (well, I don’t know if I can even call them wips. More like, a general idea and a title written down.) I want to build good writing habits, and if I can write just 200 words a day, hell, even 200 words a week and just one of my 8 stories done, I would consider this goal met.
Number 8- I’m torn between making my game in unity or ren’py. I know jack shit about both. Ren’py is more user friendly, but unity will allow me more customization. (Lol, can you guess what kind of game I want to make yet?)
Number  9- I really just want the full story to be done and written incase anything goes horribly terribly wrong in my life and I find myself unable to continue making ghost switch in comic form. Then at least I can finish the story by other means, you know?
Number 10- It always surprises me every month when I get that patreon email saying I got paid. Sure, I don’t even make double digits on it, but it still awes me enough to know that people out there like my work enough to throw me a tip. I can’t thank my patrons enough for supporting me and I hope to one day be in such a good place I can update my comic/song comics/writing frequently enough without need for goals or milestones. But until that magical day arrives, money is always a great incentive for anything, I suppose. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
 ALRIGHT. PART 2 OF 2: SHIT THAT HAPPENED TO ME IN 2019
Cheesus crust what a year. This year started off great! Back in late January Kingdom Hearts 3 FINALLY released, and let me tell you a little story. Back in the summer of 2006 I was a 13 year old middle schooler with no way of making money other than by doing house hold chores at a rate of 25 cents a task. A few weeks ago, I had a sleep over at a friend’s house and they let me play this weird game called “Kingdom Hearts” and god, I was instantly hooked on it. That summer, I did over 800 chores, enough to earn myself 200$ and buy myself a playstation 2 (just in time for the ps3 to come out, gg me) The only games I had for the ps2 were KH1, 2, Re:CoM and Okami, and I beat them all… except Okami. Miffed that the PS3 wouldn’t allow for backwards compatibility, little 13-year-old me made a promise. I looked myself in the mirror and said “I will not buy the next playstation console until KH3 comes out, AND BOY that was probably a good choice for me to make with my level of gaming. I’m even less of a casual gamer than the average casual gamer, but I have been waiting 13 years for this piece of closure, and I even told my friends and family that “the day Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out is the day I will buy a playstation 4”. My dad apparently thought this was the funniest shit, because he literally took the day off from work that Friday to drive me on base to get the game and console (he thought it would be less crowded than a regular walmart, I suppose). I paid $400 on a ps4 pro while he bought me the game. Again, I have an impecible sense of timing seeing as the PS5 is now right on the horrizion, but just like before, I’m not buying a new console until the next KH game is released. See you in 2045, sony~. While I was at the gamestop on base, I also picked up Okami HD and The Last Guardian. For all of February and even early March, I took my time playing through KH3. And…! It was the best disappointment I’ve ever played. After a month away from gaming, I started The Last Guardian and finished it in a couple weeks. I love trico and would die for him, but trying to get 100% completion on that game is udder insanity. Okami, HD, however… again after a month break after finishing TLG, I started replaying Okami. I think I had only managed to get about halfway through the game before I just… stopped playing it on my ps2 version. I am currently SO CLOSE to getting a 100% on the ps4 version. In fact, I’ve beaten the game. I only (techinically) need 2 more trophies to be done; 1st, escape the water dragon without being eaten, 2nd, I need to beat that dumb stupid race with Kai, in order to get the last bead on my rosary, as well as the top dog trophy. I hate her so much. I hate this race so much. It’s awful and bad.
Flash forward to December! Earlier this month I was at Barnes and Noble, buying myself a planner for 2020. I exit the store and notice that there’s a gamestop across the street. For shits and giggles I go inside to look at their game selection, and I find KH 1.5 and 2.5. Now, my PS2 died a few years back (it just won’t read my discs anymore, I don’t know why) and I haven’t been able to replay any of my other kingdom hearts games since. If you had seen me the day I finished kingdom hearts 3, after the ending credits rolled, you would have heard me say “Man…. I wish I could play kingdom hearts 2 again”. AND NOW I CAN, ALONG WITH BBS which I had never even played yet, but knew the story of. I’ve restarted playing kh1, and I was so happy to hear that familiar music when I booted the game up for the first time. While at the game stop, I also picked up Rime and Tearaway, two games that had looked interesting to me. At the time of writing, I’ve finished Rime and am 25% done with tearaway. Rime was…. An interesting experience. I learned about it through Jacksepticeye’s channel a couple years back and thought the art style was enticing. For a super casual gamer like me, I found the puzzles just the right level of challenging and exploring was a blast! The music gave me VERY strong Princes Mononoke vibes, but the overall story left something to be desired. Overall I had fun, and enjoyed completing this game to 100%. Now for tearaway. Can I just say this game is super fucking adorable? I know the original was on the ps vita and the gameplay there was arguably more diverse and imaginative, but this game is just so fucking cute I don’t care?? ALSO, this game’s sound track is ABSOLUTELY incredible and I’ve only heard the first fourth of it! Listen to The Orchards, Pig Riding, and Gibbet Hill Pilgrimage for a taste of their wonderful beats and fantastic use of string and woodwinds! God, I’m so excited to get some more games in 2020. I’m proud to say I currently own more ps4 games than I ever did with my ps2 (and now the majority AREN’T Kingdom Hearts titles!), and I’m still hoping to play Journey, The Witness, and Abzu before everything becomes ps5.
What else happened to me this year. Oh, I went to a doctor for, like, the first time in seven years. I also had my blood drawn for the first time ever, and the nurse said the most disturbing thing to me while she did it. Now, whenever I get shots, I refuse to look. I did that here. So she thought it would be appropriate to say to me “Can you feel your blood leaving your body?” Lady… You can clearly see I am uncomfortable with what is happening here. Why, of all the things you could say, did you choose to say that. Unfortunately, while my doctor is nice, she keeps wanting to run tests on me, that I just cannot afford with my current salary, and my monthly insurance is about to go up to 200$ a month, so I’ve cancelled my next appointment with them, and don’t plan to go back until it’s absolutely necessary. Capitalism is fun, guys. Preventative healthcare is for wusses.
I started going to a chiropractor on a monthly basis. Story time- I don’t know when it started, but sometime late last November I began to notice that I had a headache that just... wasn’t... going away? And each day it was starting to get a little worse. It made it hard for me to find a comfortable position to sleep, it made it hard for me to be in bright areas or move fast. So I said to myself “Okay, if this headache persist through the month of december, then something is proooobably wrong and I should go see someone about it. And hoo-boy were thing wrong with me. By the time this January rolled around, I couldn’t even stay on my feet for more than a few hours without it physically hurting to just BREATHE. So I started going to this chain called The Joint (A+ name, I know). THey aksed me “How are you doing?” I said “I’m in pain” and they said “We can help fix that!”. I’ve only been to a chiropractor once before in my life a few years back after my freshmen year of college because I began to notice my hips weren’t able to support me? LIke, I would lie on my back, and I couldn’t push my hips up when my feet were flat on the floor. I also couldn’t climb anything steep, because my legs just couldn’t push me up if my knee had to bend more than 90 degrees when I lifted my leg up. (Turned out both my hips were apparently out of place). This time only one of my hips were out of place (which they fixed. they said one of my legs was an inch “longer” than the other because I had been leaning all my weight on one leg when I stand). But two of my ribs were apparently “Stuck” which was why it was hurting for me to just breathe, and one of my shoulders was missaligned too, causing one of my trap muscles to constantly be streched, which was pulling on my skull, and causing the headache. Anyway, after they popped all my bones back into place, I still felt terrible, but by god, that night was the first time in weeks I was able to sleep without a migrane. A chiropractor can’t magically heal your arthritis, or fibro, but I definately think they have merit to keeping your posture good and helping your body with things like circulation. 10 outa 10, would recomend. It’s all the fun of getting your neck snapped without the dying!
Earlier this month I got together with two of my friends and we baked Christmas cookies. It was a lot of fun, as well as a great learning experience. A member of my family has a gluten allergy, so we used rice flour for most of the cookies. We learned this is a bad idea! The cookies will just fall apart! A few member’s in one of the friend’s family have nut allergies. Other friend and I knew this and were careful to avoid cookie recipes with nuts, bUT THEN COMPLETELY FORGOT THAT ALMOND MILK AND ALMOND EXTRACT COUNT AS NUT. IN FACT, ALMOND EXTRACT IS PURE CONCENTRATED NUT JUICE AND WE FELT SO BAD FOR ALMOST ACCIDENTALLY POISONING THE FAMILY.
Earlier this year me and these same friends took a field trip to Hobby Lobby and just dicked around the store for a couple of hours. It was super fun, 11 outa 10, would recommend, a great date idea for your artsy S.O.
Back in May I went to a wedding for the first time in my life. (well, not true, but the first one I could remember) we left at 5am, drove 5 hours to get there, hung out at a zoo and spent the night in a la quinta before the wedding day. I slept on the bathroom floor because my mom was snoring too loud in the main room and keeping me awake, and the rest of the day was just spent me trying to keep myself together because I was pissed off and tired.
Other than all of that, nothing really major happened to me this year. I guess one more thing I’ve tried to do this year is started the process of breaking certain internet addictions so I can use my free time for more personal projects. Seriously, I found myself watching way too much youtube and following blogs that didn’t even make me happy. I had a personal intervention with myself where I sat down and asked myself, “why do you watch these videos and youtubers? Why do you follow these blogs? Do you really enjoy their content? Do you really care? If you stopped watching/following them, would you even notice?” After critically thinking it over, I’ve found myself unfollowing several channels and blogs and suddenly I feel so much happier. I thought I would miss it, but I realized I didn’t really care if I saw their content or not. I wasn’t missing much. And now I feel like I have more time to draw, read and write. If you think you spend too much time consuming and not enough time creating, I suggest you try and de-clutter your internet habits as well. It’s done wonders to un-fuck my headspace.

A Stupid Fight - Byler
They were in the middle of a stupid fight. They both wanted to forget about it as soon as it had started, but instead, it ended with Will slamming the door to their apartment as hard as his small body could manage.
Mike sighed, running a hand through his wild curls. He looked blankly at the pieces of paper in front of him, scribbled with ideas that his mind formulated in the middle of long nights, making him jolt wide awake and wake Will in the process.
Will.
“It was supposed to be good news,” Mike mumbled to himself, “Not the start of a fucking argument.”
Mike had gotten an offer that he couldn’t pass up. The couple’s comic series has been pitched to be turned into a full blown Hollywood series of movies. He was super excited about it, and he was especially excited to tell Will since it was both of theirs, Will being the illustrator.
He was hoping Will would be as happy as he was. Obviously nothing was set in stone, but he wanted to answer the movie company as quickly as possible to ensure it could still happen.
They could pick up their entire life and shift it across the country. It was an exciting new stage of Mike’s life, and he wanted to share all of it with Will.
Will, on the other hand, wasn’t leaping at the idea. Living even in New York City, it was too far away from Indiana for Will. He was very family oriented and liked visiting his mother and Hopper over breaks from work and holidays. Mike totally understood that, but he couldn’t and didn’t want to move without Will.
“We’ll still see them on holidays and stuff! We can call!” Mike had assured him enthusiastically, smiling widely at his boyfriend.
“Mike, it’s not that easy. My mom needs me to be close, she doesn’t want anything to happen like... before,” Will whispered the last word, reluctantly looking up at Mike’s worried eyes.
“Will, I’ll be with you every single day. Nothing will happen, alright?” Mike promised him softly, holding Will’s hand to comfort him. Mike pressed a soft kiss to his lips, pulling away to smile gently at Will. “Think of it: we could buy an actual house, that’d be awesome. It’ll be way better than this shitty apartment, and we can maybe get a cute dog or something. We’ll have a office to share, you can have a place for all your fancy art things-“
“Mike, what if I don’t want that?” Will said so quietly that Mike could hardly hear him.
“I get that you don’t wanna move, Will, but I don’t wanna-“
“No. What I mean is... what if I don’t want this huge Hollywood success. It’s our work together, I don’t want our names or work to be associated with a horrible movie. Then, horrible sequels too.”
Mike furrowed his eyes, looking at Will with confusion on his face. “I’m sure we’ll have a say in everything concerning the movie-“
“How much say? Will we see the script, will we not? Will we be able to have a say in costumes, outfits, or sets? Will they even fucking let us because we’re together?” Will asked, his voice shaking but getting louder with every question.
“Will,” Mike said, trying to calm him down with a soft voice. “Things are better in California, you know. There’s always gonna be people like that in life-“
Will scoffed, shaking his head. “So, you’re just telling me to accept that?!” He challenged Mike with a look of disbelief on his face. “Really? After everything I’ve been through- after everything we’ve been through?”
Will went over to the kitchen, grabbing his jacket violently off of the counter. He put it on quickly, looking utterly frustrated and upset. “You know what, Mike? I’m sorry I have to ruin your big Hollywood dreams, but I can see the reality in some of these things. I’m not gonna work with anyone who thinks that our relationship is gross or disgusting so much so that they don’t want us to be involved in making our work become a reality.” He reaches the door, watching Mike stay put near the couch. “I’m gonna go take a walk,” he finally said, slamming the door before Mike could respond.

Mike shook his head, playing out the previous events on a loop in his mind. He felt horrible. He felt guilty that he hadn’t listened to Will the way a boyfriend of years should’ve. He sighed again, lifting himself off of the couch.
He knew Will needed space, and he wanted to give him that, but he couldn’t stop thinking about how things ended.
He walked over to their shared office, smiling at the rough sketches along with finished pieces scattered all over Will’s desk. Mike could list thousands of good qualities of Will’s but neatness wasn’t one of them.
Mike opened his own desk’s drawer that they had named the Drawer of Everything Needed at Some Point when they had first moved into their apartment. He smiled, picking up the small velvet box he kept hidden in there. He had bought it on a whim one day several months ago. A simple silver band that he knew would suit Will. He had only glanced at it a few times since purchasing it, but this time it was the most meaningful.
He was waiting for the right moment. But, as his thumbs stroked the velvet material of the box, he was fearing it would never come. Especially not after the way this fight left them.
Sighing, Mike shoved the box far back into the drawer like he had done so many months ago.
Will, instead of being cuddled up close to Mike, was out in the brisk cold air of Central Park. Him and Mike didn’t live too far away from the park, but it seemed miles away that February night.
He was stuck in his thoughts. He didn’t want to be disagreeable, but he wanted to ensure that moving across the country would be worth it. Will wanted a say in everything, he wanted a say since he was the one who designed Mike’s characters. He felt like that was only necessary.
But, he also felt that if the actors or people working on the movie figured out him and Mike were together, it would destroy everything. The comics wouldn’t sell, the movie would be gone, everything would shatter.
“A gay comic book writer and his boyfriend who draws the pictures,” Will mumbled to himself, kicking some slushy snow into the street.
Once in the park, he sat on one of the benches. It was freezing cold, and that only made Will miss Mike more. Mike was basically a human furnace, heat radiated off of him.
After contemplating the long walk back to their apartment, Will waved down a taxi which brought him to his building a lot faster than he wanted to be. I should’ve walked. What if Mike’s upset? I basically crushed his dreams, should I walk around the block until midnight? I could do that...
He generously paid the taxi driver, wondering if the man could be bribed into driving Will to Jersey. Maybe Indiana if he was up for it. Anything to avoid Mike’s hurt gaze that Will worried about the entire cab ride. Too soon, the taxi was gone, and Will was left to either freeze his ass off outside or go inside and possibly be broken up with Mike.
He hoped for the best, that Mike would just be mad for the night, and ran up the stairs. He didn’t bother waiting for the elevator, and instead took the stairs two at a time.
He reached the apartment quickly, digging into his pocket for the keys. After moments of panicking, Will found them and slowly unlocked the door.
All of the lights were still on, and Mike was sitting on the couch. His head turned when the door opened, and he couldn’t help but smile widely.
“Will,” Mike said, walking over to the door to stand in front of his boyfriend. “You’re freezing.” His smile melted into a frown, taking his jacket quickly.
“I love you,” Will told him, smiling and happy that he wasn’t upset. “I’m sorry,” he said once Mike had him wrapped tightly in a hug. “I’m sorry. I totally overreacted. I should be happy that your work is possibly going to be a movie. That’s amazing.”
Mike stepped back and leaned down to kiss Will. “It’s /our/ work. You worked as hard as me on your famous drawings-“
“I’m not famous,” Will quickly corrected him, ducking his head as a blush formed on his cheeks. “I love you, dork.”
“I love you more,” Mike responded, holding onto Will’s hand while trying unsuccessfully to hang up Will’s jacket in their closet. After failing multiple times, he threw it onto the counter, Will rolling his eyes at him. “And, I’m not mad, if anything I wasn’t listening to what you were saying. I’m sorry about that, and I should’ve asked all of the questions you had. They’re important. They’re important to you, that makes them important to me.”
Mike continued on, walking them over to the couch. “And, honestly,” he sunk into the couch cushion, smiling as Will instinctively curled up into his side, “they should be important to me nonetheless. I never want to put you in a situation where either of us could be hurt in that way. And, obviously I want my boyfriend on set at all times. I want to be able to hold his hand while we watch actors mess up lines all day long. Besides, you’re the creative genius behind all of the illustrations, so you especially should be the one watching from behind the camera.”
Will interlaced their fingers together, squeezing Mike’s hand. “I don’t want you to be hurt either. Or us. Or the movie because of some anti-gay writers or producers or directors trying to keep everything from us.”
“I’ll call them first thing tomorrow. Everything will be figured out for us I’m sure. If that’s what you want... you know, if you wanna go to California.”
Will shot him an uneasy glance, relaxing as he felt Mike’s hand squeeze his. “I’m still not sure about that... I don’t mean to be like that — all disagreeable and stuff — but I’m sorry-“
Mike pressed a kiss against the top of Will’s head. “Hey, don’t worry about it. I want you to feel as comfortable as possible. I wasn’t listening, and we both know I do that a lot. I’ll ask about relocating the filming locations, how about that?”
Will smiled, wrapping an arm tighter around Mike’s torso. “And, we can always get a dog here in our shitty apartment, right?”
Mike laughed into Will’s hair, nodding along to his words. “Yup, our shitty little apartment.”

NEW CREATORS SPOTLIGHT
Hello again readers, and welcome to this month’s New Creator Spotlight! We find up-and-coming artists of all types to highlight! From fashion, music, and art, we know how to find the hidden talent in Shibuya and illuminate them all for you to see!
Mr. Mew Creations
First up is Mr. Mew Creations, a new fashion brand led by the fabulous Eri and Shiki Misaki. This duo has taken the fashion scene by storm with their innovative ideas and inspiring designs. From dresses to bright three-piece suits, these two push the boundaries of how we define outfits.
The star of their debut collection is a marvelous dress suit! It’s a dress, and a suit, combined into one! The top half is styled as a silken tuxedo jacket in bold fuchsia, with a pale lavender undershirt and iridescent pearl buttons. The bottom half, however, is a skirt designed to evoke the image of an elegant ball gown. The slip is comfortable enough to wear all day, while providing a backing to the outermost layer, which is a cascade of feathers dyed a stunning cobalt blue.
They have a myriad of other pieces in this lineup, going beyond the binary while staying fashionable and comfortable. From a simple purple shirt with embroidered orange foxes along the hem, to a yellow sweater with a detailed pink squirrel on the front, there’s a wide variety to choose from!
We sat down with the girls for an interview in their studio to talk about their threads, and they had a lot to say!
Thank you for interviewing with us. Could you both introduce yourselves for our readers?
Eri: Yeah sure! Thank you for interviewing us! I’m Eri, the lead designer of our two-person team, Mr. Mew Creations! I do most of the conceptual work, putting ideas down on paper and seeing where that gets us. Shiki definitely helps with that, but her talent shines in, well-- She can tell you!
Shiki: Hah, yeah! I’m Shiki Misaki! I’m the seamstress, so I made all the outfits you can see here in our workspace! Taking what Eri gives me, I bring our ideas to life! We’re both good in each other’s field, but together it feels like we’re unstoppable. She’s handed me some amazing designs to work with, and some I never thought I’d be able to turn into reality. The star of our show, the dress, was one of those. It almost ended up in the trash on more than one occasion, actually. We had to completely redesign it multiple times because we’re both perfectionists, and because someone sees the laws of physics as a challenge to beat. Eri likes to see how far we can push things past their limits, but we work best together because I can reel her back in if it goes too far.
We’re glad you two make such a good team! What led you to make the half-dress, half-suit outfit?
Eri: We wanted to design something that ignored gender norms. Something that defied them, without defaulting to a vaguely-masculine, androgynous look. The fact that clothing is gendered is ridiculous, and there’s this idea that men’s clothing is the default when you want a “gender neutral” item. We decided to go in the opposite direction, and add as much gender as we could, without being limited to one gender.
Shiki: It, like most of our line, is inspired by one of our friends. This dress was originally designed for him, before we decided to use it as part of our lineup. Gender is weird, and the society we live in makes navigating it more confusing than it needs to be. To be able to wear what you want, without worrying about the perception others have of you, without worrying about the way you’ll be labeled? That’s the ideal we strive for, and we hope our work can make a difference.
You said your friends inspired your line. What can you tell us about your creative choices?
Eri: Our friends are unique individuals, and we are too, so we know how to take a look at what people want, and what they need. Not everyone has the perfect model body. Not everyone wants to wear the high-fashion bling, or keep up with all the latest trends. The trick is to find what people want to wear, and design that, instead of chasing what’s trendy. If it’s stylish, people will want it, but it has to look nice and fit right.
Shiki: Just because something is comfortable, doesn’t mean it can’t have style. People are going to notice if you’re not at ease in the clothes you wear, and that unease ruins otherwise perfect appearances. We custom make everything here, and as the seamstress it’s my job to take what Eri gives me for the design and bring it to life. Doing that, while taking sensory issues into account, and ensuring nothing irritates the person who will be wearing it, is of the utmost importance.
Can you tell us a bit about  yourselves and your brand? How you got started, or where your mascot came from?
Shiki: Oh! Our mascot, Mr. Mew, was the first thing I ever made. I still have the original, and I carry him around with me. My quality of work has improved a lot, but he’s a big comfort item. He helps me face all the big scary monsters of the world, and I want him to be there to help others too.
Eri: We met when we were younger, back in middle school. I’ve always been good at making friends, but Shiki was a lot more shy then. Actually, we got in an argument, once when we were 15. I was so worried, I thought I was going to lose my best friend forever over a misunderstanding. Thankfully, we worked it all out, and here we are now! She’s a wonderful seamstress, and all of our friends are so supportive, so it’s nice. I don’t think we’d be where we are today without each other, and the help of everyone in our lives.
 It’s clear that these girls put lots of effort and dedication into what they do!

 Neku Sakuraba
The artist of the month is none other than Neku Sakuraba! If you’ve taken a walk around Shibuya, you’ve already seen his stuff! This graffiti expert has been gaining a name for himself with stunning displays of color and intricate designs. If you frequent 104 or Molco, you’ll have seen his stylish bold lines on ads for some of the stores!
He first started making waves in the art world last December, when he put up a mural in the Miyashita Park Underpass. Dubbed Hachiko’s Guardian Angel by the public, it features a glowing figure standing over Hachiko, with white feathery wings stretched out over Shibuya’s night-time skyline. There are people at the base of the statue, and musical notes fill the outer space. We reached out to Sakuraba himself for commentary, and managed to secure an interview in his studio!
The space was big, half-finished paintings and sketches scattered across the room. Cans of spray-paint, colored pencils, and charcoal were everywhere. Interestingly, we also spotted a couple Mr. Mew plushies laying around. A second guest, a friend of Sakuraba’s who insisted on being called Joshua, was also in the studio.
But without further ado, the interview:
Thanks for welcoming us to your studio! Can you give us an introduction?
Neku: Right, hi, thanks for interviewing me. I’m Neku Sakuraba. Music geek, CAT fanboy, unwilling follower of fashion trends. That one over there [he gestures toward his friend] is Joshua. Please ignore everything he says. He decided to be here for “moral support,” but I think he just wants to tease me.
[Joshua, at this, gasped, and said, “I would never!” but as requested, his further commentary has been cut from the interview.]
Got it! What inspired you to start making art?
Neku: I’ve always been a doodler. My mom has artwork from back when I was six. The big moment of inspiration for me, when I went, I want to do this, was when I saw CATs art. Looking up at the mural in Udagawa for the first time, back when I was ten, I felt a spark, and I haven’t let go of that feeling since. It’s been rough, I’ve struggled with mental health issues, but art has always been a solace in the dark. I never thought I’d make it this far, or get as much recognition as I have. It’s amazing, and wonderful, and terrifying all at once.
You first got popular because of the mural you put up last December, in the Miyashita Park Underpass. Can you tell us anything about it?
Neku: Oh, yeah! It was the first mural I’d ever done, and I drew a lot of inspiration from Shibuya. In my head, I’ve nicknamed it Shibuya’s Composition. The piece is loosely based off a dream, if I’m being honest. The glowing white figure in the center, with the wings, is meant to be a guardian of Shibuya. Someone who helps the city grow. Meanwhile, the people at Hachiko are waiting for their friend to show, but he can’t, because he’s watching from above, protecting them from afar.
Fascinating! Do you feel like there’s a story you can make from that, one you might tell in the future?
Neku: I don’t think this is ever going to be a story or comic, unfortunately. It’s more of a personal piece. A few years ago, I only had one friend, my first friend, but I lost him. When he died, I isolated myself, and it took a lot from some special people to draw me out of that shell. Even now, I wish I could see him again, and the idea of him still being out there, watching over me and my new friends, comforts me when I miss him the most. I guess I’m like Hachiko, waiting for a dead person to come home.
I’m sorry for your loss. Can you tell us anything about your other artwork?
Neku: I do a lot of graffiti-style works. There’s no other big murals out there by me yet, but I’m working on a few designs right now. People have commissioned me to do stuff ranging from tattoo designs to album covers and store promotions. One of my favorite things to do when I make art, though, is to take the mundane and re-imagine it as something mystical. Why can’t you make foxes purple? Who says there isn’t danger lurking in the shadows? What’s stopping me from adding fire and lightning as weapons, from creating fantastical fights?
Another big source of inspiration is Shibuya. I’ve grown up in this city, it’s my home. If I can look around and see things others don’t? Then I can put that down on paper. Whether it’s as simple as catching the neon lights illuminating the Scramble, or the leaves falling around Hachiko, I can see that, pull it apart, and let my imagination run wild.
That’s pretty cool. You mentioned doing album artwork earlier, so can you tell us what it was like to design the cover for the latest album by The Albatross?
Neku: It was fun! I can’t tell you anything about them, obviously, but it came as a shock when they asked me if I could take on this project. In hindsight, it makes perfect sense. But what I can say, without getting myself vaporized on the spot, is that it was enjoyable, and they’re fun to work with. Even if they’re kinda a priss. The amount of artistic freedom I had was nice, and I think we collaborate well together. So there might be more partnership between us in the future, but nothing’s certain yet.
Wonderful! With that, one last question: what motivates you to create?
Neku: Art has always been an escape for me. It can be pretty, or loud. It can shout your thoughts from the rooftops or disguise them under the rustling of leaves in the wind. You can influence others with it, if you’re lucky. I create art for myself, first and foremost. But if I can provide a glimpse into my own secret garden, and let others see pieces of who I am in my work? Then I’m glad. I want to share it. I want to make my mark on the world, and provide others with the escape I once sought.
 This up-and-coming young artist is going to be a big name someday! With his talent, dedication, and heart, Neku Sakuraba might just be the next CAT!

 The Albatross
Our final creator of the month, someone a bit less new, but never interviewed, is The Albatross! Their first album, Noise, featured CAT artwork on the cover: an albatross in flight, with TV static cutting through the image. These two are a mysterious duo, but The Albatross takes the title of most elusive. Despite gaining fame from fans latching onto CAT art, The Albatross has never given the public a single word.
Until now, that is! With their second album, Pulse, set to release in a couple of weeks, they have consented to an interview for the first time!
The album artwork was done by Neku Sakuraba, and it features a feathered white wing, sprouting from the right-hand side of the image. Some of the lower feathers have been replaced with graffiti-like designs.
As for the music itself, their first album featured orchestral tracks, heavy on the violin, alongside electro-punk tunes! Some were instrumental, while others had lyrics. Pulse is looking to be the same style, but rather than the dark themes of Noise, it contains brighter, more hopeful songs.
We went through a lot of paperwork, involving multiple non-disclosure agreements, and the interview took place over a call while they utilized a voice changer, but it was worth it! And we’re happy to share what we’ve learned with you!
Thank you for choosing to have your first interview ever be with us! Can you give us an introduction? Nothing too personal is required!
Albatross: You were the only ones I felt were trustworthy, and the only ones completely willing to honor my anonymity. Also, a friend may have bribed me into it with promises of ramen. As for introductions… I am The Albatross, composer of music, avid Tin Pin fan, and a nerd when it comes to all things Shibuyan. History, culture, the trends. I thrive off her, it’s like the city’s got a pulse that matches my heartbeat.
Shibuya is amazing, we agree. Can you tell us why you chose your alias?
Albatross: There’s a lot of symbolism in the albatross. The bird can be a sign of good luck for sailors, historically. In the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, though, one of the sailors kills an albatross, and thus it becomes a curse. He bears the burden as the other sailors hang the bird around his neck, reminding him of how he’s doomed them all. I’ll let fans keep speculating on why I picked it, though. I can’t give away all my secrets here.
Of course. We wouldn’t want you to spoil all the fun! How do you make your music?
Albatross: It’s amazing what you can do with technology! I know how to play the violin and piano, so any parts in my songs with those are actually me playing, but for the rest I use a few different music programs! For vocals, I outsource it to Shibuyan singers, but all lyrics are still written by me. In the end, I weave everything together, and finagle it so it fits.
Sounds like a lot of work. Where do you get your inspiration for it all?
Albatross: From Shibuya! This city has a life of her own. Feet tapping against pavement, voices reaching through the air, all the beeps and honks and the myriad of noises that resound in every corner; it all creates a rhythm, it creates music. Sometimes I’ll sit and let it all wash over me. The city holds so much, a million stories fighting for attention. They echo in my head, begging to be told, so I write them. I turn them into music in the hopes of expressing their messages for everyone to hear.
The tone between your first and second album has changed a lot, from what the previews are showing. Is there a reason for this?
Albatross: Yeah. I’m going to be blunt. When I wrote and released my first album, I was suicidal. Completely isolated from the rest of humanity, with no friends or good experiences to fall back on for comfort. My only outlet was music, and because I was so depressed and misanthropic, my work reflected this. I saw the world as poisoned, felt like people would never change, and thought my existence contributed to the negativity.
But now? I have friends. Someone entered my life, not quite of their own free will, but they stuck around. They dragged me into the sun, undoing all my self-sabotaging attempts, and they helped me grow. Helped me learn to see the good in humanity again. Shibuya is full of life, full of creativity, of people trying to do their best and help others. I wasn’t able to see it before, vision clouded with my own preconceived notions, but they… Removed the tinted glasses from my face, so to speak. And this is why my new album is more hopeful and lighthearted.
You mentioned mental health, just now. Are you able to elaborate on any of that?
Albatross: Mhm, I can. It’s not pleasant, but… Mental health isn’t talked about enough, even though it impacts so many people. I’ve had depression for years now. I still do. Some friends and a few bonding experiences doesn’t magically cure everything. There is no magic cure. What helps is finding people you can rely on when things get tough. If I lock myself in my apartment, I used to hide away for weeks. Now, though? One of them comes knocking after a few days, with ramen and orders to shower. Sometimes it can feel like you’re going to shatter into a million pieces. But instead of falling apart in secret and cutting myself on the shards of glass, I have people who hold me as I break, minimize the damage, and help me piece myself back together.
Recovery is not a straight line, and there’s no end to the winding trail you take. What’s important is having friends there with you. People who help you stand up when you stumble, who help you make camp when you need to rest. Find someone who makes you feel safe enough to fall apart. Someone who can be there to pick up the broken shards, and help you create something new and beautiful with the pieces.
 The Albatross is still a mystery to us all, but hopefully their words and music have reached those of you who need to hear them!

             oh my, thanks for asking! ( I am confused whether you are asking me about the technical part or the progress about creating comic , I will choose the latter) I am no pro at making comics but I am eager to answer this. As you guys probably know I am into writing Slice of Life,Drama, Romance and Comedy. People do have all kinds of different styles in creating comics and mine is quite “drifting with the flow” I would say. It is completely random sometimes, and I let my hand draw out pictures and add on the conversation later. Sometimes I don’t even know what the characters is saying or will say in the next panel. 
    The pregnancy comic is still work in progress so let me tell you about my previous comic “CloserToYou”  and  “Childhood au” as an example first. 
    Since young, I am not good with writing down while imagining about the plot. But my mind works better if I can see the a glimpse of drawing/ sketches or expression. So I just draw.

This is the very first 4 pages I drew it out. I’ve never planned to make it over 100 pages. All I need is the key words or key point of the story as I filled in blank space between the two actions and connection all the together .That’s how I create the further plot. Thou, here I did have some ideas about the main theme and the glimpse of whole story and how i want the conversation of Sai and Ino would be. 
      My fav words of Sorachi Hideaki (Creator of Gintama ) is “To me, the key lines are actually those that are unimportant, and where I put in the most effort. If it weren’t for those unimportant lines creating the atmosphere, I wouldn’t be able to go with story flow or be excited, and the story key lines will end up  forced. Deciding the story’s atmosphere and coming up with exciting lines are the toughest part if the creation.”    
      I completely agree with Sorachi. While writing down CloserToYou , I knew that I could finish it off with 6 or 7 pages with the main conversation but I really wanted to create the impact and that’s why I planned out the introduction and the ending for it.

   I see as if it is kind of lacking if the character says a line without any reason behind it. If a picture says a thousand word , then a word will say thousands of meanings. And I track down those meanings,then choose one scenario which will be implying that sentence. Or I can do other way round. Every sentence is important. 
       The option of choices for the small conversation can be a lot more complex than the climax one. It is difficult because you have to put the right word and phrase in the right place of the conversation, one wrong choice and I get the block in my head. It feels like gears. It works only when the places are correct( only when it can create the flow directing to the main conversation) side note: that's how u can add foreshadowing as well. Also wrapping up the story is the most tricky one for me since you have to answer up all the questions and concepts you have brought up into the narratives. So I have to keep changing the ending and fixing here and there.

This was a rejected page. I planned to end as Sai put Ino’s hand on his forehead then they hold each others’ hands later.
It is good to have fixed ending so that the narrative can follow. But I would rather want to make it flexible so that nothing can restrict in your writing and It might actually be better than your original planned ending unless it falls out (way too much) from the narrative. These are just the basic facts in writing. And of course you have to keep in mind about the characters’ traits and their perception on things. The characters don’t change easily until they have one rightful reason to. And the writers need to show that reason.
   But we can really play around and experiment. That’s why sometimes, I think it is really fun to let the characters talk and react freely instead of a strict planning from author.

It really help me with the creative writing style. no rules,no pressure and no boundaries. They will carry out the story and it’s like riding the flow.
      This will have a little bit of spoilers on Childhood Au, (I’m just elaborating more about my writing what I mentioned above) You can skip it if you don’t wanna see spoiler xDD cuz I will be talking about the same thing.
   When I first drew childhood AU, I just wanted to see emotional Sai. I want to see him angry, sad and laugh. So I drew him in a large range of different expressions on things he will react to. That’s how I started to get more Ideas about what I want to do with the story.

This is literally what I drew out together with the Part(1). Creating this Au and  Imagining out Sai as a kid is really great. And I like writing Shin a lot because I don’t know about him at all and nothing is stopping me in his character choices. Same with Kid Ino and Sai’s interaction and the characters that I have never seen interacting in Canon. I have the rough Idea and drafting after I let the character do their thing as the dramas and questions which will come out from the conflicts between different personalities.These are important and interesting aspects I believe. Clearly,this is just my way of writing. And I still haven’t  reached to that point in my current abandoned story. To have this part more meaning, I have been building up the characters, dropping up hints here and there  that’s how you will have to create a promising narratives. And of course, the Themes have to be obvious on the story “Intro/ prologue”, “title’ and “poster” as well.

Chapter 46: Robbers and Psychics
You rolled over to find Ramsay's side of the bed cold and empty. You sighed, rubbing your eyes.
You sat up slowly, a sharp pain in your ribs as you did so. You placed your hand on your belly.
"Too early, sweetheart." You whispered, with a yawn as your feet touched the plush carpet. You slipped your robe on, tying the ribbon as you quietly went to the bathroom to go through your morning routine.
You walked through the house, no sign of Ramsay. You could see the sun rising in the distance.
You slipped on a pair of Ramsay's shoes and stepped out the back door to find him smoking and watching Moose chase the early morning birds.
You slipped your arms around his waist, resting your cheek to his bare back.
"Morning." He said through a cloud of smoke.
"Good morning, baby. You good?" You hummed back, closing your eyes and taking a deep breath.
"Mhm."
The air outside was refreshing. It had the smell of warm weather. Of spring on the way. It lifted your spirits slightly.
"It's going to be warm today. Can you smell it?" You said, pulling away from Ramsay and stepping out into the yard, tipping your head back to look at the pink and orange morning sky.
You turned to Ramsay who watched you with a small smirk, "all I smell is the bags full of cash I'm going to bring home later."
He looked slightly ashen faced. Though, it may have just been the time of morning. You weren't even sure how long he had been up, or how much sleep he had actually gotten.
You dropped your shoulders and frowned, "I really wish you wouldn't, baby. Please?"
"I don't want to disappoint the cops, baby girl. It's a crime to lie to the police. I don't wanna be a criminal." He chuckled, flicking his cigarette away from him. "Breakfast?"
"Yes, please. You make the best breakfast." You said with a bright smile.
"Because I'm a drunk." He said earnestly, opening the door for you.
You sat at the table sipping coffee and watching your husband make breakfast when the backdoor opened. Startled, Moose barked, retreating under your chair.
In walked Matt, Damon, and Charlotte. Moose crawled out from under your chair, sniffing furiously at Matt, who looked lost and panicky.
Charlotte gave you a warm, one armed hug, taking a seat beside you and resting her head on the table.
"Bit early." Ramsay said, glancing over at Damon.
"Neighbors decided to have an episode this morning. Cops came and questioned us and shit. Apparently the old woman freaked the fuck out on her old man and beat the hell out of him." Damon said with a yawn, "Said she beat him with the coffee pot because he bought the wrong kind or some shit."
"Relationship goals right there." Ramsay laughed, delicately placing bacon into the frying pan to avoid grease burns.
"So since we were up I figured we could get over here and I can watch you get irritated at eight thirty in the morning as I point out the flaws you have in this plan of yours."
"Fair enough. No hash browns for you though, for coming to my house way too early to piss me off." Ramsay replied slowly.
Damon gave a gasp of mock horror and pouted, "but I may die without your hash brows! IHOP doesn't have shit on you."
You raised a brow. For as long as you had known him, Damon was always the happy-go-lucky morning person you wanted to punch for being too damn happy before 11a.m. But then again, Ramsay was a pretty lively morning person as well. Fucking weirdos.
"Dude, I did not want to see you this early in the morning." Ramsay said, narrowing his eyes at Damon.
"Ouch. That hurt a bit. Right here" -He jabbed his finger into his chest- "You know you missed me. It's been almost twelve hours. Besides, I may or may not have news." Damon said, pinching Ramsay's cheek and slapping his ass before taking his seat beside his wife, who was resting with her head down on her arm on the edge of the table. You weren't even sure she was awake.
A slight twinge of jealousy creeping up at Ramsay and Damon's relationship. It was weird to you sometimes. Ramsay never acted like he really cared about Damon, and then sometimes they acted like brothers and best friends.
"What kind of news?" Ramsay asked, curiosity clearly peaked.
"Hash browns first. Then news." Damon said, sliding a lighter across the table to Matt, who had been patting his pockets since he sat down.
"Should I suck your dick while I'm at it then since you're making demands?"
Damon shrugged, "I mean, if you're offering breakfast and blow jobs I won't object. What gets better than that?"
You snorted into you cup, standing up. You crossed the kitchen and placed a kiss to your husband's cheek.
"I'm going to go dress." You whispered.
Ramsay grabbed your wrist and pulled you back toward him. He placed a rough kiss to your lips and grabbed your ass, pulling you in closer.
Finally he let you go, slapping your ass with a wooden spoon as you walked away. You threw him a dirty look over your shoulder, rubbing your burning ass cheek.
"Mm. I like the way that sounded." He purred, winking at you as your cheeks warmed.
"No, man! We are doing it this way." Ramsay said, smacking Damon in the head with the notebook he was clutching.
You and Charlotte watched your husbands row like watching a tennis rally. It was only a matter of time before they both ended up on the floor, throwing fists.
Matt sat on the floor, slightly green in the face, as he watched the argument. He hadn't said anything at all since entering your house. He kept smoking, simply to keep himself busy and hands from shaking.
Ramsay jumped up, looming over Damon, who was bracing himself for the damage he was about to be dealt.
"You!" Ramsay said heatedly, pointing at Matt, who squeaked in fright, cowering like a beat dog. "What do you think? This was your idea, after all."
Matt looked like he wished his Lord and Savior would swoop down and take him away.
"I... I dunno, boss. Please don't make me answer. I don't know anything about any of this." Matt whimpered, staring at the floor, looking like he may throw up if he opened his mouth again.
You caught Ramsay's eye and gave him a hard look. He gave you a wink, and sat back down.
"Call the Boys and tell them to meet us at Theon's house. We'll leave from there."
Damon nodded, pulling his phone out. Ramsay rose again from his perch, this time holding his hand out to you.
You took his hand and let him help you up. He tugged you down the hall to the bathroom, which was still a mess.
"Want you to get this re-bandaged before I leave." He said, holding out his arm to you.
You nodded, pulling scissors off the counter and cutting the gauze away. It looked so much better. Even after only a couple days. The human body was an amazing thing.
"This looks so much better, baby. Another day or two and I won't have to wrap it anymore, I don't think. I dunno what this shit is, but it's amazing." You said, examining the black tube of cream Whit had brought you. There were no labels or markings. Just a black tube.
"Good. Now what are you doing today?" Ramsay said, biting at a nail as you washed the burn.
"Hanging out here with Charlotte, then going to lunch with Oly, and coming back home." You said, patting the wound dry.
"That's it?"
"Yep. What news did Damon have?"
"The Lannister midget's trial starts today. I guess you saw he was arrested on Joffrey's murder? Anyways that bitch of a sister of his is pushing the issue. Her younger son has been seen with the Tyrell whore. In very sketch situations and places. And the Lannister's now know about the girl and Martell boy. You should get in contact with your snakes, make them aware. I have a feeling it won't be pretty."
You finished wrapping the arm with a frown, "promise me you will step in if it goes to shit."
He turned to look at you and gave a small grin, "Alright, baby girl."
You entered the living room, taking your seat beside Charlotte, who had pulled Moose up on the couch with her.
"How's Ramsay this morning?" Damon asked, handing a joint back to Matt.
"Better, I think. He hasn't complained. Thank god." You said with a shrug.
A few moments later Ramsay entered the room, dressed in his Sunday best, holding his Kylo helmet and Darth Vader mask. He dropped the mask in Matt's lap.
"While you're down there kid, shine my shoe." Ramsay said, placing his foot on Matt's leg.
"Dude, you're wild." Damon chuckled, looking Ramsay over.
You watched Matt buff out a scuff in the shoe with the cuff of his hoodie.
"First impressions are important." Ramsay smirked, lighting a cigarette. "Kid, we need to find you a mask. What's your poison?"
Matt looked up at Ramsay, confused.
"Surely you had a masked character you looked up to as a kid. We all have one. Today you're Vader, but we will find you a new one after we leave the bank." Ramsay said with an air of great patience.
Matt shrugged.
"Oh come on, you're still a baby. Still watch cartoons and read comics, I'm sure. See, I have a thing for Star Wars. Damon is an Iron Man fan. I made Ben Master Chief, since he wanted to run around and play jarhead when we graduated high school. Alyn is Deadpool. Yellow Dick is Crossbones." He looked over at Damon, "man, I just realized how fitting that is for him."
Damon gave a little shrug and nod.
Ramsay turned back to Matt, pulling his foot away from him.
"I dunno..."
"Think on it, and I'll ask you over lunch."
Ramsay turned to you, "I have to go see dear Theon. I'll call you when the job is done. It'll be quick. In and out."
You only nodded with a frown. Ramsay kissed your forehead and left.
"It'll be alright. I know what he has in mind. We have gear, we will be alright." Damon assured you, giving Charlotte a hug and quick kiss. "Let's go kid."
"How are they so okay with it?" Charlotte asked after a few moments of silence.
"I wish I knew. Sometimes I wish my moral compass was as off as theirs." You sighed, "lunch with me later?"
"Sure thing, hon."
You picked up the discarded notebook, glancing over Ramsay's notes. It was hard to decipher it. For someone as genius and precise in everything as he was, his writing was horrible.
"So, a Tyrell bank, huh? That's what Dame said." Charlotte said, lighting a cigarette.
"No." You said slowly, looking at the notebook still, "the bank Ramsay used to work at, it would seem."
It made the knot in your chest loosen slightly. Ramsay probably knew every inch of that bank, and all the security. Maybe they really would be okay. And it was blocks away from any of the Tyrell banks. The Boys would be in and out before the cops ever had time to get there if they were watching the Tyrell banks. It made you laugh.

"I've never been here." Charlotte said as a man opened the door of the restaurant for you both.
"It's one of my favorite places in the city. It's never too busy, but some of the best pasta ever." You replied, choosing a booth by the window. You were about 15 minutes early, but you couldn't sit at home anymore.
A few minutes later Olyvar took his seat across from you, arms Laden in books and papers.
"I went ahead and ordered for you." You said with a smile, grabbing the first booklet of alcohol.
"Sweet." Olyvar said, pulling a pen. He took a long drink from his glass before setting it down, propping his cheek up on his palm and gazing at you intently, "So?"
You drew a deep breath, ready to explode. Olyvar always had a way of making you spill the beans.
"I am so fucking tired and overwhelmed, Oly! Ramsay is always going and it's exhausting. I guess I never noticed it before because I was always working too... but damn. He needs to slow down. Maybe i just can't hang anymore because I'm pregnant. I don't know. But it wouldn't kill him to just sit down and take a breather. He has me so stressed. You have no idea what I would give right now for a pack of cigarettes, a bottle of wine, and a whole bowl out if a bong. Like, get this baby out!" You said, the words cascading like a waterfall.
"And what is my god son's name?" Olyvar asked, raising a brow.
You heaved an irritable sigh, "he doesn't have one yet. Ramsay won't say shit. It's about to freak me the fuck out."
"Maybe if you acted like you don't care he would tell you. You get so worked up. He loves watching you meltdown." Olyvar said wisely.
He did have a point.
Lunch passed in laughs and arguments as you and Olyvar compared prices and distributors. Finally, multiple order forms had been successfully completed.
"We have probably a hundred applications as of right now. We need to set up interviews and get people hired. We are nearing the finish line, very quickly." Olyvar said, looking as excited as you felt.
You nodded, "yeah. We should start like next week."
"So, I was thinking. We should go see a psychic."
"Ugh. Not that again." You tutted, rolling your eyes.
"Oh, come on. It will be fun. There's a woman a few blocks over. She's supposed to be the best. You're my best friend, that means I can pressure you into going with me."
"Alright, alright." You huffed, "wanna go, Charlotte?"
"Sure, I'm game. It's always fun. Maybe my future looks brighter than the last time I went." She laughed.
You stared at the building, apprehension setting in your chest.
"Come on, (y/n). She's the best in the city, probably even the country from what I've heard. It will be fun. It's not like it's legit. You aren't doomed to some bad fortune or something." Olyvar said, grabbing your hand and pulling you into the dimly lit building. As you passed the door you read the sign:

Palmistry, divination, tarot, tea leaves, crystal ball
Charlotte made a noise of interest as she examined a shelf of crystals.
The windows and lamps were draped in shawls, and a pungent smell filled you as a wall of incense sticks burned. Various candles were set around the room with more crystals, funny symbols and runes, and interesting statues.
A woman stepped out of the shadows. Her brown eyes seemed to burn gold in the odd light cast around the room. She had the look of a woman would could have been beautiful. She was covered in shawls and bangles, gold teeth glittering in the dim light as she smiled at you and your party.
"May I help you?" She said in a simpering, honeyed voice.
"Uh... thought maybe we could get out palms read?" You said, suddenly feeling very nervous.
"This way." She whispered, pulling a curtain back. "One at a time."
Olyvar nudged you forward. You shot him a dirty look and followed the woman.
She took a seat at a velvet covered table, holding her hand out to you.
You took a ginger seat on the edge of the chair across from her and held your hand out.
Her hand was just as silky as her voice as she encased your hand in hers. She closed her eyes and hummed to herself, tracing a sharp nail over your palm.
"Mm... mhm... yes... what do you want to know dear?" She said quietly, opening her eyes, grip tightening on your hand.
"Uhh... not sure? I've never done this before." You said awkwardly, not looking her in the eyes.
"Mm, yes. But you're curious. A lot going on. A healthy baby boy growing strong inside you, giving you nightmares." She smiled, grip tightening further.
You snapped your eyes to hers, heart jamming itself in your throat.
"Yes. Horrible nightmares. Chaos. Fire. Death. You fear for your husband. Terrible secrets."
You yanked your hand back, and stood quickly. Afraid. You dug in your purse and dropped a 20 on the table, turning and leaving before she could say anymore.
You entered the front room, "Come on. We are leaving." You hissed to Charlotte and Olyvar, who both looked questioning.
Madame Maggy leaned against the door frame.
"What you fear will come to pass sooner than you think!" She called after you as you pushed the door open and stepped out into the street.
You took a deep breath, swallowing the fear and trying to compose yourself.
"What was that?" Charlotte asked, looking back at the door.
"Nothing. I want to go home and take a nap. I feel horrible." You said harshly. "Oly, let me know what day you want to run interviews. Be safe and be careful. Loves."
You gave Olyvar a tight hug. He gave you a look as you pulled away, "not today." You whispered in his ear.
He gave an understanding nod and smile. "Call if you need anything."
"Word." You said with a smile, climbing into the jeep.
You and Charlotte said nothing on the way to the safe house.
"I wish they would hurry up." You sighed, glancing over at the clock, starting to worry as the afternoon grew later.
"I'm sure they're fine. Just giving poor Matt shit. They are so mean to him." Charlotte assured you, taking the bowl of ice cream you had offered her.
"I know. I keep telling them to leave him alone, but you know them. Anyways, I need to clean the bathroom. No idea where the remote is. Ramsay hides it so I don't change his channels." You said, giving an apologetic shrug.
Even though it only took a solid 20 minutes to clean the bathroom completely, you were exhausted. You leaned against the counter, resting your hand on your belly when you felt it. You felt your child finally move on the outside. You drew in a sharp gasp of excitement. You couldn't wait to show Ramsay.
Maybe that would bring about realization and he would finally give you a name. You were very curious of the name he would come up with.
You just sat back on the couch when the backdoor burst open. You turned quickly to see Ramsay walk in, a pep in his step and humming a tune.
He placed a kiss to the top of your head as he walked past you and took a seat in his recliner.
"Where's the money?" You asked, watching him closely.
"What money?" He asked innocently.
You opened your mouth and closed it again.
He let out a laugh and nodded behind you as Matt walked in carrying two large duffel bags, dropping them on the ground at Ramsay's feet.
He looked much better than this morning.
He turned to you, glee all over his face, "that was the wildest fucking shit! This guy is fucking INSANE!"
"It just came to me! I know who I'm making you!"  Ramsay said suddenly, looking fixedly at Matt.
"Huh?" Matt asked, as Damon, Ben, Alyn, and Yellow Dick all walked in carrying two duffel bags a piece.
"Your mask. I'm making you Star Lord!" Ramsay said, pulling the closest bag to him and unzipping it.
"No problems then?" You questioned, watching Ramsay stack bundles of bills on the coffee table.
"None at all. I told you it would go smooth, baby girl." He said, lighting a cigarette.
"How many did you kill?" You asked, unsure you wanted an answer.
"Unfortunately it was empty when we showed up, other than the tellers. So i killed them. I hated them all anyways. Whiny little shits they were. Oh, and that one bitch in the office next to mine. She was a whore."
You said nothing as you watched the Boys count cash and divide it up.
Matt pushed half of his stack towards Ramsay, "Cherry Pie."
"You sure? I mean, look at all this cash. You could buy a house. Take your girlfriend on an expensive vacation."
Matt shook his head, "I want that car."
"Alright, she's yours. Damon will take you by the shop when you leave here and give you the keys."
You looked down at your phone:
New Message.
[Mom: hey baby, we got in early. Eli is taking us to dinner when he gets off work. Really hope to see you!]
You looked up from your phone to gaze at Ramsay, who looked beside himself in smugness.
"Baby, going to dinner with my parents."
"Mkay. Just lemme get all this shit put up and take a shower."
"No rush. It's only three."
"In that case... all of you out. I need some time with my wife." Ramsay snapped.
Charlotte gave you a small wave and left with Damon and Matt. Yellow Dick and Alyn left together, and Ben shook Ramsay's hand before he, too, left.
Ramsay rose from his chair and walked into you.
"You, me, shower. Now." He purred, pulling your face up to his.
"We don't have a shower curtain." You reminded him.
"Don't care. Just don't slip when you get out." He smirked, gripping your arm and pulling you up.
"Then don't let me fall." You winked as he pushed you down the hall.
Slowly, you undressed, watching Ramsay run his tongue over this bottom lip as he watched you.
"So, you had an enjoyable day?" You asked, turning on the shower and grabbing you husband by the front of the shirt.
He loosened his tie and screwed up his face in thought as you unbuttoned the shirt.
"Yeah, I guess you could say that. You? You look a bit peaky." He said, kissing your forehead as he shrugged out of the shirt and unfastened his belt.
"Yeah. Got all the bar stuff done. Having interviews next week. Boring business stuff." You said with a small smile.
But the truth was, the psychic's words kept springing up on you, and every time it would tighten your chest and make your stomach clench.
"Where is dinner?" He asked, kissing along your cheek.
"Dunno. I'll have to call Eli." You murmured, tipping your head back as he reached your neck, grabbing at his hips.
He helped you in the shower and wasted no time in pushing you against the wall, biting at you and running his hands over you as the warm water sliced over you.
You let out a loud moan as he shoved his hand between your slick thighs.
"What took you so long? You said you'd call. I was worried." You said, annoyance making a tiny flare in your stomach.
"I know, baby girl. Im sorry. I just... got caught up in the moment. I threw myself off. Lost track of time while I was with Theon. I've renamed him." He hummed, rubbing his thumb into your clit.
You let out a breathy moan, "oh?"
"Yeah, Reek. Because he fucking stinks. He smells like death and dog shit." He chuckled, shifting to stand in the water completely.
"How is he not dead?" You questioned, clawing at his his, letting your fingers wander ever lower.
"Well I feed him and water him daily now." He panted, pushing his hips into you as trailed your fingers over his hardened length.
"And what do you feed him?" You asked, raising a brow and griping him tight and moving your hand slowly along him.
He made a deep noise in his throat, pushing his fingers inside you.
"Table scraps and dog food. Sometimes a dog biscuit if he behaves." He replied, words weak as he focused on the pleasure you were making him feel.
"You're sick, you know that baby?" You said, pulling his fingers from you and taking them in your mouth.
He swallowed hard and let a smirk form, drawing a sharp breath as you swept your thumb over his wet tip.
"And you love it." He whispered in your ear, pulling his fingers from your mouth, and shoving his tongue inside your mouth.
You bit down on his tongue, sucking gently as he pulled your hand away from him, pinned you against the wall by your hip and pushed himself slowly inside you.
You released him and pushed your head back into the wall, "make me numb."
"No. I wanna make you feel good, baby girl." He panted in your ear, grinding his warm, wet body against yours.
"Daddy, make your bad girl cry." You begged, a reckless sensation burning inside you as the wetness between your legs mounted and body began to warm in pleasure.
He grabbed your wrists, holding them up over your head with one hand, and grabbing your hip painfully hard with the other as he pushed himself harder into you.
"Faster." You moaned out, closing your eyes tight.
He picked up his rough pace until it became uncomfortable against your belly. His excitement from the day clearly melting over into fucking you as he took care to give you both pleasure and discomfort at the same time.
But, the excitement from the day was still fresh and he met his high first. Hearing him orgasm was amazing. Nothing could compare to his primal, lust filled noises of ecstasy.
Once he had finished he gave a small frown, dropping to his knees and biting roughly at your sensitive spot.
It was a curious sensation as the water ran cold and a guilty, pleasurable pain surged through you like fire as you met your limit. Ramsay had to catch you by the hips as your knees gave out at the shock and force of your body releasing.
When he was sure you wouldn't fall he released his grip, and pushed himself up into the cold stream of water.
"This hot water heater fucking sucks." He complained, chills erupting on his body.
"Well, hurry up and get us moved to our permanent residence." You grinned, stepping out of the shower.
"You can't rush greatness, doll. Go grab me something to wear so we can go to dinner."
You wrapped a towel around you and left the bathroom to dress and call your baby brother.

In general, a zine is an amatorially published magazine! Specifically tho here we’re talking about fanzines, so magazines put together and published by fans for other fans! The ones I’m taking part in are both about kiribaku, and will include both fanart (fancomics included) and fanfics! Depending on how much you wish to spend on it, you can also buy a bundle with fanmade merch too, and the Sixth Wheel zine is gonna have a pdf version too, in case you’d prefer to buy it like that! They’re super cool projects I’m insanely happy I got invited to take part in!!!!

Sorry this took me an age to answer - I have answered this question a while back, I think it might be in my art tips tag! But to go through it fast, my process is something like
find a line or an exchange I want to deliver, or a topic I want discussed (usually happens randomly as I’m doing other things)
spend a million years just staring at a wall or at my ceiling or anything else as I build a whole scene in my mind to have the lines or topic take the form of an actual comic (might take two minutes, might take a month)
draw a rough sketch of the whole comic - I do this with all panels (and pages, when I separate a comic in pages) on the same canvas, so that I can look at the whole scene all together and get a good sense of the general flow of the storytelling. This process includes cutting panels, moving panels around, reshaping panels, trying different poses and angles for the same panels to find the right one, writing and deleting and re-writing lines till I’m sure the wording is what I’m going for*
line the panels - I mean the actual panels, the straight lines delimitating the panel, I line them all first and put them on a separate layer
line the people!! All the characters in every panel are lined in this stage
line the backgrounds! In case there are backgrounds and the comic is meant to stay in black and white, if not then color the backgrounds! (I always start coloring from the backgrounds cause they’re the boring parts and if I leave them for last I never do them ever #rip)
in case of black and white comics, we fill in flat, gray-scale colors at this point (or, as I’ve lately started doing, I only put down shadows and leave it at that). If it’s in colors, we color the people!
Write down the dialogue!! *at this point we change a lot of the dialogue again because enough time has passed since I sketched it that I changed my mind on everything, don’t be like me
you’re done!
All of it is done on one single canvas, unless it’s a comic with separate paneled pages in which case they’re all done on their own canvas but still drawn all together. That’s about it, hope it was at least a little bit useful!

A Brief tl;dr
This is probably a lot to say for 20 unfinished webcomic pages and I know I can be fairly long-winded so if you just wanna skip ahead and click through the pictures I’ve put up, I understand.
The TL;DR is
Hello and welcome to Mage Punk Archives! My name is Tables and this is some of the work that I’ve done over the last few years and what I’ve been up to in my little corner of the world. This is the third and last of a series of posts, outlining a number of updates that I completed on the site.
Included are some of my inspirations and a little of what I’ve learned so far about myself as an ever growing artist up to this point.
After this, I want to keep the content more focused on the actual art and story.

Long Ago, Before the miracle of handheld internet searches and Instagram
When I was but a young, internet webling, I was heavily into shitty online flash games and looking for anything even remotely related to my interests at the time. From Mario and Sonic to various comics, videos games, anime and things never to be said aloud (pornpornporn). My love of the likes of Super Mario Bros and Sonic the Hedgehog (big fandoms for me at the time) would later lead me to sprite comics. Today, my feelings for the little hodge podge collage strips of old video game sprite sheets and backgrounds are a little mixed.
(They were beautiful and I’m gonna make one someday)
Then, in Highschool, I took a basic Web Design class. It was a VVoid World Web of Notepad and Internet Explorer where a kindly old crone passed on to those of us there, some knowledge of the ancient runic language which forms the foundations of the World Wide Web: HTML. Tables, frames, css, oh my! This knowledge would eventually prove invaluable.
Throughout our studies we were occasionally allowed to venture out into the Wider World Web. It was during these little adventures and travels across the Web that I happened upon the magical land of Webcomics. It was also during this time that I began break free of the enchantment of sprites. Even though I would probably never return to them, they would always hold a special place in my heart.
  The Internet is for [Comics]
    Webcomics – Synonymous with “Masochism”
At first, I had no idea just how grueling webcomics could be. Most webcomic artists pump out pages one to three times a week. At the time I got into them, MegaTokyo, then still partially a video game webcomic, was just releasing its third printed book; 2-3 updates a week with a loosely set schedule. Evan Dahm was wrapping up his surreal fantasy epic, Rice Boy; with updates consistently going up Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The various sprite and drawn webcomics that I was following at the time were updating all the time. Seeing all the great work going up, I felt encouraged to try it myself.
I drew these closer to the end of my junior year of high school.
Desu
Taking major inspiration from a lot of the manga and anime that I was enjoying then, I used pen and ink to make my comic pages. I liked working in black and white because it felt direct and skipping on color made it easier to finish faster. I figured I could work faster if I didn’t have to worry about the extra step. When I did want to use color, as is typical for the early pages of a new manga, I used markers.
At the time, I had no idea that mangakas used assistants. That’s messed up.
Not to say that it was completely unrealistic, but back in the real world I could only average one black and white page a week. If even. The spider webs I was drawing all over were so that I wouldn’t have to use a ruler to draw my panel proper borders. I thought it gave the comic an “old archive”. In the end, I concluded that the spider webs should have their place and not be all over.
This time, I decided to work a little more carefully and deliberately.
  Moving Forward
It was going pretty well but by the time page 7 rolled around, it was time for midterms and I had become too self-conscious and uncomfortable with the way I was drawing my comic pages then. Then, it was time to take finishing high school seriously and before I knew it, I was a freshman at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. I did a lot of growing in the next four years that I attended there. Unfortunately, I never revisited those pages. Instead, near the end of my sophomore year, I took a Sequential Art class where the Final was a full-color, 5-page comic.
These are the ink-wash versions of the 7-page Final that I submitted. I’d originally colored them digitally to meet project requirements but I don’t want to post those just yet..
  In the End
I wasn’t satisfied. The truth was that I waited until the last minute, rushed it, and over-reached on a re-draw that wasn’t much fun for me to work on. During the course of that Sequential Art class my professor turned my attention to artists like Moebius and Mike Mignola. I also came across Katsuya Terada’s stuff around this time.
  And school went on…
    I worked on Mage Punk when I could between assignments.
    Between thinking I could possibly work on a for-print comic…
    …and a webcomic at the same time.
  The End was Near
Most of these were actually made towards the end of my four years at Ai. Those of us graduating were tasked with compiling our work from the years past in accordance with the requirements for obtaining our degrees. I believe that we were given two semesters to gather our pieces and do any revisions to previous works to get them up to date with the rest of the portfolio piece. Illustration Graduates at AiFL were typically required to gather a required selection of their work into an on-demand printed book. The year that I graduated, my department decided to change things around a little. Specifically, we were given the option to collect the requirement work into a plain black binder portfolio and make the printed book more geared towards our pursuits. I opted to make a Mage Punk/Orbyss Archives “Zine” as my main portfolio piece.
  And Then College was Over
I drew a few more pages of the comic until I became employed full-time. These days, there aren’t enough free hours in my days for me to keep up with any typical webcomic’s update schedule so for a long while I stopped working on the comic altogether. I’m squeezing as much work out of every second that I’m not there; with whatever energy I can muster. This includes planning, writing, sketching and drawing. Before I got back to work on the site, I was posting fairly regularly to my Twitter and Instagram; those posts took time to do as well.
  Most of this post was written in separate sessions on my commutes to work.
“Shortcuts”
Even though I always wanted to present Mage Punk as a webcomic, I always worked on it like it would go to print eventually. This created a confusing mindset for me when working on the comic, where I had to work on a whole book, but I have to rush to finish every page. If I wanted to put out pages more frequently I took shortcuts at any point I could to be done with them. Even if I created a good buffer of finished pages, I’d still run into that same pitfall eventually. I wasn’t enjoying my project because of a pressure I applied on myself to finish it in a way I wasn’t necessarily comfortable with. I didn’t even get that much done in the end.
It’s important that I work on it at a pace that lets me show the best of my ability. I would love it if I could be properly finished with the pages before I post them but if I wait before it’s all good and done I’ll just never get around to posting anything, forever floating, aimlessly, throughout creative internet limbo.
Instead, if I have to work on my comic in piecemeal, I’ll just post it up in piecemeal. Mage Punk will still be presented as a webcomic but, until the end of the book is done, certain changes are still a possibility. Editing is an important part of producing any book and I’m going to make its presentation reflect that.

Instead of trying to finish things at breakneck speeds, I’m going to work on the comics at a more reasonable pace. I’ll try to work on it mainly Chapter to chapter instead of page to page like how a webcomic normally is done (buffers aside) This gives me the opportunity to take a step back and get a broader look at the story while still putting out content in enjoyable chunks.
It’s difficult for me to wrap my head around drawing a comic on a start-to-finish, page-by-page basis. While I was working on the later pages in the chapter I kept finding myself jumping around and making changes to previous pages to make some things more consistent with later parts of the story. Instead of working page-by-page, I was editing the chapter as a whole to try to strengthen the narrative I’m trying to tell.
To that end, I still want to present it on this site as a webcomic; if only in name and archive.
The Process
At the VERY longtime behest of my editor, I’ll be presenting the comic as a work in progress at various points in the following production stages.
Writing
I’ll post dialog excerpts here and there. Nothing that can spoil the story too much.
This step will be kept largely behind the scenes.
Thumbnails
I do these on index cards in ballpoint pen to figure out the sequence of events that I most prefer.
This is the step where I’m prone to overloading a page with information.
First Drafts
Full size roughs of the earlier thumbnails. This step helps me get a better sense of how crowded or unbalanced a page might be early on.
This step also helps to prune out any strenuous scenes or dialog that could otherwise have their own pages.
If it isn’t working visually at this point, it’s not going to work in the next step.
Pencils
This is where the real drawing happens. Drawings in this step are made by either digital or traditional means depending on when or where I’m working.
Inking
This step is exactly like the drawing step but in pen and ink. Despite my affinity for real pen and ink, I’ll mainly be working this step digitally.
Color
This step is wrought with indecision but it also one of the faster, more fun steps to do.
Lettering
I’ve removed the dialog from all the pages currently up, opting to keep that out until a chapter is completed; it’s the thing I’m likeliest to change the most frequently until the end.
All lettering is currently done digitally but I’m considering the possibility of hand lettering.
Drawing dialog can be quite fulfilling but it takes a lot of practice.
Editing
This part will be happening all throughout. Page re-orders, panel redraws, changes in dialog.
Until the book is done.
  Here We Are
I’ve already made some revisions to a handful of the pages that are already up; if you browse through the comics you can see the revisions noted in the comic descriptions. I’ll make blog posts for any major revisions or series of revisions that I do. I have a few ideas for some smaller projects that I can work on while I work on Mage Punk. Whether they be illustrations, stories, or even mini-comics like this silly thing down here.
      Moving on
I might have also mentioned before that I have a few other drawings that I wanted to make for the site. In particular I have a neat idea for some social media icon illustrations. I wanna make something that takes advantage of what I’ve learned with using CSS. It’s nothing too fancy.
All that said, future posts will be a bit more brief than these last three were. I’d much rather write and post about the work itself, but I feel like I’ve hit a personal milestone and felt the need to ramble on about it a little.

hmm!!! thats a good question if i have any advice at all…i dont really draw things in comic form that often because of how slow i am…its a whole project for me lol
also natch im just an amateur at all of this vs people who like…pay attention to how to do things really well and/or draw comics on a regular schedule &/or get paid for it and all. so seeing this i was immediately trying to think of like, advice ive seen from random professionals on twitter & stuff & i’ve tried to moreso shake it down to the stuff I’M actually doing when i draw a comic. which is a bit tricky because of my small sample size & the fact that i dont have any kind of consistent process or technique unifying all the comic-type stuff i draw
like sometimes its just a few floating sequential drawings and other times is definitely more like, really thinking of it in terms of how i’m going to structure it in Comic Form & use the format to adjust my presentation of whatever idea i have
like i know ppl whose Job (officially or just by their own standards) to do a bunch of comics pages will do a script of scenes to decide what goes on what page and sort dialogue / action into panels & describe how things will look etc…and then do like maybe really rough layout pre-sketches, then the first rough sketch for a page, an optional more cleaned up sketch layer on top of that, and then the final lineart
i sorrrt of do a version of that, in that i am generally sitting on a Comic Idea for a while before i even start getting into the business of thinking through how it’ll actually work. i have to make sure that im “committed” enough to the idea to wanna make more than one drawing for it, and that i think i have at least a vague notion of how i could put it into a comic. sometimes i DO end up just putting the notion into a single drawing or condensing it into like, 2-3 lil floating drawings or w/e. coz a lot of the times the idea starts out really vague, often with one “moment” that serves as the whole inspiration & that i then try to build a scene/sequence around….a lot of the details beyond that can be really vague in my mind, like the setting or dialogue or who’s involved or what happens or the pacing or extra events or etc…basically Everything is real amorphous for a while
so yea step 1 is me having this one idea and trying to decide if building a scene around it would be a better way to present it vs just having one drawing, & if i think i can actually effectively carry it out….which is in reality even less fancy than it sounds…i just sit on an idea for a while & never get around to actually focusing on it / putting down any of the thoughts abt it that im formulating. but the upshot of me putting it off for forever is that i do end up with a kind of mental script / layout for a comic before i start it…..but even the extensiveness / format of these unwritten scripts varies a lot for me
like, a few times when i have made something that’s maybe longer than just one page &/or something ive been mulling over for an extra long amt of time (which tends to be stuff that is starting out w/ heavier than usual ideas) i’ll like, actually write down what happens page by page, even plan out specific panels, maybe even put down a few rough sketches of certain parts. i’ll have the Main Moment which is the idea that started the whole thing in the first place, but what tends to happen is i’ll come up w other moments that i think could lead up to / frame / follow the main moment, and i pretty much just decide how they all fit into one cohesive piece. so what my “rough drafts” look like for these more extensively planned ones—still really not that exhaustive, i only put things to paper when im basically done enough w my ideas to be just about ready to start actually making them—can vary in their actual formats (e.g. simple chronological bullet points of events, a few drawings, a rough sketch of how the whole thing might look), the core of it is basically just me finding a way to nail down how i’m going to arrange the Moments i have and how i’m going to lead one into the other…….like for things with enough pages / panels, i’ll tend to focus on which Moment will end each page &/or each line of panels, then have an idea of which other Moments i’ll need to put on which of those pages, and kinda figure out how to pace things
again that all sounds like maybe i have a real process…..I Do Not
im kinda lucky in that i think i have a decent sense for composition without having to struggle over it too much. so a lot of times i can leave a lot of that up to be felt out as im actually doing the rough lineart for the first time. i also often don’t nail down panel arrangement that carefully & also make it up as i go along a bit, which is probably not something anyone should emulate. someone was saying something about how some certain page layout of like, 3-something-something panel rows looks best, i dont know. i’m guessing, as with all things, nobody can say “always do this / never do that,” but i think staggering odd/even numbers of panels in each row is always a good guess. just makes it easier for them to read more distinctly at least, surely
sometimes i DO think about certain panels when i wanna frame a certain “shot” in a very specific way. but im just kind of doing whatever. i know vague rules like that wide shots / negative space slows down the pace, vs tightly cropped / small panels / packed w a lot of visual info tends to read as a faster pace, more chaotic. i dont quite go too wild about that sort of thing tho, because for me as a reader, a lot of times really tight shots that are like cutting between 5000 different angles rly fast all in a row, sometimes it is absolutely unreadable to me, as in i do not understand the visual info at all. it feels like the equivalent of how action movie editing keeps hanging on to the “incoherency = intensity” vs just me tuning out until the scene is over & missing details b/c i just am not getting anything out of it
thats not much of a factor for me coz i dont really ever do things with extended sequences of movement / action or whatever. i’ll keep things in one place. i’ll like to do smaller, “quicker” panels moreso to like, show simultaneousish details / to extend one moment…..occasionally i do Big Panels for a moment of higher intensity / impact too. btw putting a High Intensity moment in a super tiny panel is always really funny for the contrast of it all. i dont think ive ever done it, but it is
ummm…….also planning where your speech bubbles will go is good. i dont do that enough, but i should. most of the reason i dont have a more proper, organized process to anything i draw is that i just dont have the focus / patience to slow down for More Planning vs just going ahead and drawing it. jokes on me, since some quick vague planning can make it a lot easier on yourself vs just diving in and struggling w something for ages
uhhh also since im not that fantastic or mindful of panel layout? sometimes i’ll make a point of just having uniform rectangle panels of the same size/shape, so i only have to really worry about the layout within the frame. this is mostly good obv for things with not that much shift in pacing throughout it or action or whatever…you lose the advantage of how panel sizes can affect the tone of a shot or something & probably cant get that detailed in ur drawings but that is often Fine By Me
when i do use the uniform rectangle structure though, i kinda have to focus more on each individual panel, vs like, knowing ok, these three moments are going on this page, i have a vague idea of what’ll connect them, just make up the individual panels as you go along. this does mean that i have to kinda think more about what justifies each panel….how its different from the ones before & after it or how i might want it to be similar to “hold” a shot for a beat or w/e or draw focus to a small movement, what’s actually going into each panel, if i can/should condense two panels into one, etc. its still a lot of playing it by ear, i dont have solid rules of how i think i should do it each time
even when i do have a like whole plan for something im drawing i’ll often make more changes as im actually making it. sometimes its deciding something would be more effective, sometimes it’s just “hey this would work too & be easier,” and thats definitely fine. nobody knows the change you made, and Easier isn’t necessarily Worse anyways. convenience is good where you can get it
ive also definitely had specific comic artists formatting/framing styles in mind when i specifically wanted to use that while drawing my own stuff. like the way i’ll draw maybe a kind of horror vibe (more diagonal lines / “fractured” panels than i’d normally use, quick tiny shots of different smaller details, that kinda stuff) is gonna be different from when its a calm & quiet tone. where i dont really get too creative with the panels really & keep them pretty steady
and then that one time i did a largely nonsequential sort of panel collage b/c the marge simpson anime gave me great inspiration for how to combine & present a bunch of vague notions i had floating around all into one page. it was a good accomplishment & thats unsurprising because the inspiration i was using was That Good. thank god we can all benefit from each others good ideas and knowledge & work & all that. it does help to jump on a feeling of “wow what a cool comic i wish i could make something like that.” just go ahead and make something like that…
ummm this is all on the technical side-ish still but i dont really know what to say abt the kind of stuff that makes me wanna draw a comic in the first place vs just putting the idea into a regular single drawing…usually it Is kind of a more nuanced moment that i think would be better presented within some amount of context and buildup and all that. i basically exclusively draw emotions….and sometimes theyre better shown with some amount of action/dialogue, or at least a few different shots or something. i dont know if this area is helpful information or anything anyone would benefit from knowing about, or even if i have anything to say about it…is it all self evident maybe? idk! i do think i communicate emotions best through comics…not that each one is “here is my mood!” or talking about me at all, but i was for example trying to communicate about an abstract emotion, i think i can draw about it better than talk or write about it or anything. i DO sometimes draw more directly from my own specific feelings/experiences for things, but mostly when i think it can be relevant…i cant really do anything all that directly autobiographical, even casual diary comics or whatever. thats what my text posts are for… but i have been interested in how to convert these huge emotional issues that i’ve been v familiar with into a few pages or panels and how to present its impact in the simplest, straightforward ways i can manage…sometimes i think its worked for sure…..i feel like i gave a more Relatable sense to a certain experience by putting it in comic form than any of the times ive discussed it as a personal thing at length via text. like i said i communicate best via comics probably, despite not drawing them all that much coz im too damn slow lmao
speaking of, i’ve kind of been like “what a waste” abt the fact that i dont have like, a proper approach or regular strategy to thinking up comics before i draw them, but i think theres something actually okay to be taken from that lol……just that i know if i got too caught up in trying to plan it all out perfectly before getting into actually drawing it, i’d be making it into a bigger project and slowing myself down even more & i’d risk dropping it partway through or just never getting started at all. so if i have a less than perfect end result, at least i have an end result, and ive finally got that one idea out of my head in some way. and i feel like some of my comics do work out decently enough….a good handful of times ive been surprised w how well some ppl receive them
so i think it is good to just go ahead and dive in. i did that once w an idea i’d been sitting on for like half a year, and i think it turned out good enough. i just knew i could easily spend months and months more turning over all the details, which might make it Better, but would also mean that yknow, i’d never actually get around to making it b/c of feeling like it had to be ideal. so i simplified it a bit, used a uniform panel layout, did little drawings, and just got it drawn out in an afternoon or two. and now at least it exists lol. and ive sort of come back to the same idea in a way…if i feel like it turns out i wanna elaborate on something more, i can just make another pic/comic built on the same theme, who’s gonna care or stop me
i also try to focus on what lines are/aren’t necessary to avoid things being confusing or just pointlessly cluttery….this isnt a big issue b/c i dont often bother w bgs. dont emulate that either lol…….but im not doing any Serious art so its no big deal to me if im not “good” or not progressing as spectacularly as i might. i dont need my drawing abilities to be that amazing here. but bgs still serve a purpose beyond being a “skill” or whatever so im trying to include them more, aka occasionally, at all. still hardly ever. but sometimes you at least need like one halfassed establishing shot yknow. anyways
mmm this has all been kinda vague and i’m trying to think if there’s anything more specific i could/should talk about!! i dont know. i dont have a good perspective on what its like to look at my art while not being me lol & what ppl might think or what stands out to them or whatever. rip

“tldr; i dont really know what im doing, but go ahead and jump into actually making them as opposed to feeling like youre ready / you know the best way to make a page, because nobodys ever ready or can say This Is The Best Possible Version so just go ahead and use whatever process feels like it makes your life easier, while still actually making the damn comic” is my whole thing, i guess

1. Actually hard to answer. My parents conciously made the decision to supply us with paper, crayons, markers and shitty kids watercolors since like I was born??? So technically day one???
If we’re asking when did you “get into” comics and start striving for a dedicated style I’d say 5th grade when I started trying out those “draw like archie!” bits in the digests and more concretely in 6th grade when I got the sailor moon comic books and tried to draw like those. I’d seen a drawing my sister’s friend did of her (in the sailor moon anime style V DIFFERENT STYLES FRANSS) and wanted to draw JUST LIKE THAT. Later tho it was because I wanted to tell stories that way.
2. I’ve recently enjoyed doing digital more? I’m always a huge advocate of being able to draw traditionally and digitally. But idk, for a bit there I felt like I couldn’t get the same flowing, rough, alive lines in traditional as I could in digital. It’s also a huge pressure off cause I can fuck around with color and be able to wipe it if I need a different palette or made a mistake. Inktober this year is reminding me that I still love my lines in traditional too tho. So yay!

3. I’ve made my own zine/booklet of sketches that I sell at conventions but I have not been invited/found a zine that I wanted to participate in. I always find out there was a zine that I’d kill to be in AFTER they’re announcing it’s publish date. I was invited to one about female artists at a convention but missed the deadline.
4. Yes! I have a storenvy where I sell all the merch I make for conventions. Honestly getting to see my artwork on literally ANYTHING is always so ... thrilling?? But since the only one’s I “make” myself without getting printshops to do it are the buttons. But I do enjoy button making
5. Like... every artist I follow ever????!!?! And my friends and life. That’s so hard LOL. I guess if you want SPECIFICS I can give you a list of styles I’ve tried to copy over the years (6th-11th grade basically) that really informed my art style? Cause otherwise there’s too much to even BEGIN
- Sailor moon manga/Naoko Takeuchi (I wanted to draw like the anime but had little access to images of how that would look)
- Saint Tail/Megumi Tachikawa
-DNAngel/Yukiru sugisaki (the style they found after book 3/4 of DNAngel and then did for Lagoon engine/erstatz is STILL one of my favorite styles)
-Kittenchan(DA)/Kaciart (everywhere else) I found them on deviantart at the age of like 13 and learned a LOT from some basic tutorials on how to draw body parts/clothes (ONE friend when seeing their art was like OHHHH I see where you get your style now) @kaciart if you wanna check them out. They’re still really active and gr9
- D.Gray Man/Katsura Hoshino I love... I LOVE the matured style in this series (again a few books in) from 15-17 I was obsessed and tried to copy this
- 10K Commotion/Yukon I found this sometime in the summer of a year of HS and LOST MY DAMN MIND. I think I mistook the thrill of the story for an admiration of the artwork and then tried to copy it. There’s a beautiful simplicity to it but it’s not a style I strive for anymore
after that point it was a mix of friends/acquaintances/strangers on Tegaki E that I found for the rest of highschool age. And it became more of attempting to draw the way they did to learn how to make a color change like that, to learn how to draw an eye taht way, to get stronger on anatomy. The biggest influences probably being @cookiehanasjunk and Haisi who hides and I can no longer find him (I mean a lot more than those two but again this is getting LONG)
ppl i didn’t know personally but fell into around that time @hamletmachine​ @bigbigtruck @creaturexlll come to mind as huge influences on art and story telling
But rest assured if they inspire me and I follow them now I’m reblogging like EVERYTHING THEY MAKE. These are just the things I can remember from my formative years trying to art before I went to college
