can you tell us what are your biggest inspos? in the webtoon/comics/writing sphere

I don't really have any specific tbh? What I like to consistently engage with and what I end up writing are generally very different so I wouldn't say that... I dunno, one piece or d.gray-man or trigun (which are my favourite manga) inspire what I make? Mostly usually while reading stuff I ask myself questions about the plot (what ifs, theories, stuff like that) and then sometimes I run with it for long enough that it becomes a whole separate thing from the original thought

If it's about thcp specifically I guess I read and watch a ton of romance manga and anime and I read way more fics than it should be advisable so I guess in a general sense my inspiration for it comes from there! I mostly approach writing it in the same way I've approached writing fics in the past haha

What's your process for making comics? Do you have a script first, then a layout or is it more like key scenes that you gotta figure out how you get there?

This is specific for the housecat philosophy, but for it I first write out the general plot of what I want to happen in the next... let's call it arc, then I write out scripts for the singular strips so that I can easily switch things up and fix plot points and the conversation flow without needing to go back on actual drawn out comics. Right now we're on episode 116 on patreon and I have scripts until episode 127 and the plot for at the very least the successive six or seven strips too! A lot of these I have already made sketched drafts for too

#fran answers #i also wrote the general plot of the whole comic before starting it so that i wasn't going in completely blind #and i have separate docs in which I write down plot points for the secondary characters too so that i know #how and when to write them in so that they'll have their own cohesive plot without messing up dave and ross too much too #i got like seven different docs for thcp alone wwwww #ah a lot of the things i write down super early on get scrapped in the end but #it's good to have a general plan even if things change right?

since you've mentioned, do you have any tips to start making comics?

Honestly if it's only about starting the main tip I can give you is to find a style you're comfortable enough with to draw the same thing over and over and over again without finding it overwhelming or stressful to actually finish the strip. Drawing in general always takes hours, but with comics specifically you finish one "piece" just to have to start all over again for the next panel right after, I really believe if you want to finish what you start you need a style with which you'll enjoy the whole process of drawing from start to end

#fran answers #and then once you have your style you write what makes you happy #and as you make comics and read comics you'll figure out where you're lacking and what you need to improve #but if you never find the mindset to sit down and draw a comic from start to end #because your style is too daunting for it #then you'll never get to the point of improving #right?#so yeah #that was the main thing for me definitely

Since we are talking about old arts, got here when I was obsessed with my hero academia back in high school, I remember you and another artist made me ship tetsutetsu with Kaminari so hard, and there's one comic of yours I never forgot, the one where someone comments that denki and bakugou have similar taste in men and they yell back that they are nothing alike

Yes, that one! I still think it's so superficial to say tetsutetsu and kirishima are similar just because of their quirks...which are also not that similar either the deeper you look at them, right? So that comic was more to express my feelings about them being treated as the same than anything else hahaha

Okay, now I really wanna know more about how Dave got the day off. Like, would he still have asked for it if one of his roommates were sick, or is he giving Ross special treatment?

Yes and no, actually! He would have taken the day off for any of his roommates had they needed him to, but Ross is special in that he didn't need to ask for Dave to choose to stay for his sake 😁

#fran answers #generally speaking dave is always ready to help when asked #but more often than not it won't occur to him that his help is needed until it's explicitly asked of him #ross IS special in this sense because dave helps him without needing prompting #i like to think this detail says less about daves willingness to help his friends #and more about just how aware of ross's needs he constantly is #which is what's actually uncharacteristic of him !#...hope that made sense lol

in terms of old art of yours i'm particularly fond of your haikyuu stuff!!! i love your bokuroteru comic AND you had some of the only konokomi content i could ever find. i love what you're doing now and i'm so excited to see where housecat philosophy goes!!!

Ah! Hq is the fandom where I learned to enjoy drawing over stressing over the quality of the final product so of course it'll forever hold a special place in my heart! I also did have a lot of weirdly niche ships for that one, didn't I 😅
