everyone in mcyt fandom talks about bad inventories but i feel like we don't talk enough about the different types of bad inventory & the ways that inventories can be characterizing. i took most of these screenshots but one or two of them aren't by me and i've just had them saved for a few months sorry. i'm taking inventories from various people across various servers (wild life, dream smp, hermitcraft, lifesteal, and 2b2t) to illustrate my point here

like there are inventories that are bad because they're empty:

but then there's also inventories that are bad because they're full:

and, like-- the different ways an inventory can be bad are also characterizing? an inventory can be bad because the items aren't stacked; or because it's empty of anything useful; or because it's so full of building/fight supplies that there's no slots left for doing anything else; or because it's full of random junk. it speaks to a character's position (compare tubbo's diamond sword and empty inventory to ranboo's netherite sword or zam's full inventory of potions) and the rules of the server they're on (tubbo's not wearing elytra because elytra aren't allowed on the dsmp; zam's inventory has chorus fruit and wind charges but no ender pearls because ender pearls aren't allowed this season on lifesteal) and what their priorities are (building, pvp, lore) and how organized vs scattered they are and so much more. another inventory i like:

like!!! that's so instantly characterizing, for both the character and the server!!!! 5 stacks of end crystals + obsidian. 6 stacks of tnt. 3 stacks of god apples and a stack of chorus fruit as your only food. the bucket of lava and bucket of water for lavacasting. the fact that the flint and steel is enchanted with unbreaking. that's a STORY--of the character but also of the server! this is not the sort of inventory you have on most servers! it's so focused around griefing--explosions, lavacasts--and pvp, and the stacks of god apples as primary food source are an instant warning sign for widespread duping. the chorus fruit not for fights--ender pearls are strictly better, and he's got some so he clearly has access to them--which means it's for escaping traps, which means that's a live concern. it's got a lot of pvp supplies but it's so wildly different from the lifesteal inventory in ways that speak to the differences in server rules and cultures. like, horrendous inventory in many ways. also, very good inventory in some ways. also also, delightful inventory! fascinating inventory!!! inventories are such a delightful source of instant characterization i love them so so much

Striker wasn't even that loud and he was only talking to the twins, looking at them as he ranted to try to relent so he didn't blow his top overly, only for him to tense up again when he heard Mammon yell at him, every word he spoke just reeked of unearned pride and entitlement, but Striker just bit his lip so he didn't argue back for once, but almost blew up again when Fizz shrugged it off and said it was okay, every bone in his body screaming at him to tell Fizz he didn't owe respect to someone like this but he stayed quiet as his claws dug into his chair hard enough for it to crack the arm rests as his tail wrapped around one of the legs tightly as it rattled, keeping his eyes trained on Mammon as he went about bossing Fizz around and talked down to him, and the other Imp as well, not sure how he just let it all happen.

When they finished up and Mammon looked at him as he left, Striker glared back darkly from under his hat and if looks could kill, The sin of greed would have dropped dead right there on the spot.

He breathed out after to try to relax, looking back to the twins as Coin talked to him, leaning into Penny's massaging touch a bit, he could use it with how his muscles had tensed up

"Heh sure... ya know I've performed before too and I'd be damn within my rights to get upset if someone threw a fucking flashbang on the stage, he's a fucking sin for crying out loud, he could just make a rule that those things aren't allowed and if someone break the rules punish them, but no force someone to get used to something meant to startle, Satan forbid something not be perfect for his greediness..." Striker muttered back to Coin, he knew she meant no harm but still he felt the need to note that hole in Mammon's 'logic' but he did so with no malice pointed to the twins themselves, nodding when they excused themselves, even if he wished they didn't feel the need to bow to Mammon, he didn't deserve these two or their respect, but he kept quiet even as they left, getting up to stretch, huffing at what Fizz said.

"So ranting to myself for the most part is getting involved? Not my fault his greediness can't understand what a private conversation he's not a part of is. Mind you I could have shouted his name and berated him but I didn't." Striker said with a shrug walking up to the edge of the stage and leaning on it as he talked to Fizz, actually giving a chipper chuckle when Fizz changed the subject

"Heheh There a good sort, there kindness is welcome especially today, just wish they weren't stuck here waiting on him hand and foot, he doesn't deserve them. Just like he didn't deserve Robo or you... Good to know someone appreciates me putting in effort to care aside from my darlins though..."Striker says a bit sadly before looking up at Fizz with a raised brow, as if awaiting a response of his own

Striker ended up trying to focus on Coin and Penny, knowing he would get upset faster then most, though he couldn't help but overhear Mammon's mistreatment and pushiness with Fizz, but he tried to wave it off, least he wasn't attacking him...

"Uh well thank you, your... boss sure isn't too pleasant, I kinda guessed as much from what Robo told me of him, but it only makes your hospitality all the more pleasant in this environment, so you have my thanks, I'll be honest I haven't felt the most welcomed at all today" Striker said a bit bitterly at the end, eyes glancing to Fizz as he juggled, before he looked away, not sure how to feel about the jester at this point, leaning back in his chair to try to enjoy his massage.

Then his eyes burst open as all his muscles tensed when the loud banged occurred, clamping his claws over the sides of his head to try to block out the ringing it caused, hissing as it didn't work and his tail thrashed around frantically. Clearly being in pain and distress due to the sound.

Eventually he calmed, down, breathing out for a bit to do so before he looked onto the stage, realizing the source of the sound his eyes narrowed, tightening his claws and tails around his chair "That was a dirty trick... Is that fuckin normal!? That hurt, and he threw it right at Fizz for fucks sake... " Striker ranted bitterly, trying to move on from his little freakout from that sound...

Okay, SO... you know how parents reference a kids idol to get them to behave. I imagine like little kids in Amity looking up to Phantom and exhausted science teachers going "wait a minute-" AND BOOM cheesy lab safety PSA

Danny might see it morbidly funny honesty 💀 and then if the science teachers find out how he died in a "lab accident" they'd be horrified and try to take it down only for him to want a poster for himself
