S2 of arcane got me really thinking about the different relationship Jayce has with Mel and Viktor

Mel Is like a nice shiny trophy, who everyone praises Jayce for getting, it’s the one he shows off the most. Its got its own designated place on his Mantle. It comes up in conversation more times then he can count, viktor is the first trophy he ever won, it’s the first time he ever got confirmation he was good at something, not just good but the best. Sure it may be smaller, and it may not looks as nice, and it may be stored to the back of the display case where no one can se., He doesn’t show it off to anyone, and it barley comes up on conversation. But if someone were to ask jayce what his favourite trophy was, he’d say viktor.

I think if we are to do marginalized communities good, it'll help to remember that often, marginalized people who seem to be "forgotten about" in the mind of bigots aren't being treated well by them either - so many marginalized people are forcibly erased and made invisible. not really because i haven't really thought about it! and this isn't really my own worldbuilding, this is the general consensus from high fantasy media in general:

Warlocks in general have a reputation for being evil, practicing dark magic, and making pacts with "bad" forces - like demons! they're thought to be servants of evil & are not to be trusted. their magic is usually chaotic and wild, unlike wizardry and witchcraft with are more careful and controlled - and their magic is learned, whereas warlocks get their magic from a powerful entity via some form of payment (ex: their soul)

really, warlocks can be good or bad or somewhere in between like any magic user. but due to the nature/source of their powers, they're seen as evil. the rarity of them only adds to this, since many do indeed get corrupted by their patron - or they sought out their pact for less than savory reasons

Was discussing with my friend the issues we’ve had with how Helluva Boss has been written, particularly in reference to how Hazbin Hotel is still being produced, and had an epiphany:

It’s like if Gravity Falls only had its pilot ep out and then got put on hold, so the creators made a spin-off show focused on the Gnomes and their comedy misadventures with the other anomalies.

People got invested so they did the Bill reveal with the Gnomes instead of the main show, then the creators realised nobody was talking about Gravity Falls anymore, so the next episode after the Bill stuff they suddenly go back to the initial Gnome shenanigans and then ignore people questioning what the Bill stuff was all about because it’s comedy focused again, and then the Gnomes say a slur.

And the worst part is the Gnome show still has fascinating worldbuilding so you keep watching and hope they expand on it while you wait for Gravity Falls to finally release, but the only info you get is from poorly archived Twitter threads explaining how Gnome society works without ever actually showing it

And you find out some cool info about the Gnomes themselves, such as how they show sexual dimorphism through belt buckle style. But you only find out about this through a fan-made post about it calling out the shows moments of transphobia with erasing characters who show conflicting buckle designs.

When you never even noticed it was a thing in the first place because the creators *never bothered to explain it at all*

yippee! im glad you asked! sorry this took a bit, but i was a bit busy being autistic somewhere else <3

so anyway zenith, he's the black and white bird (a mockingbird) and the protagonist of my story - todays forecast. the story itself is about a bunch of birds working at a small tv station in the 80s (named chroma local), and the antics that come with it. it's located in the fictional country of traugenland, which is.. based heavily on central europe. there's more to it, of course (strange things are happening..) but that's the basic gist of it.

zenith is the newly appointed tv weatherman there - which is basically a dream job for a man who loves infodumping about the weather in front of a camera. people watching his weather reports found his enthusiasm for the subject endearing, luckily (or unluckily?) for him. he's originally from illinois, where he did amateur stormchasing in order to find and record the most impressive storms he can find. his eagerness for tracking severe weather is ever present, even if the weather in the city of chroma is usually milder.

andy (the blue and orange one, a fulmar) does not work for chroma local. he's the main weatherman for the country's biggest network - TNN (traugenland national network), and he does.. not share zenith's passion in the weather. he's only in it for the attention, he always wanted to be a comedy actor instead. but people don't find him terribly funny, so he took what he can get. really folks find him kind of forgettable, DESPITE him reporting on the nation's weather, which must sting quite a lot if you're only in it FOR the attention.

the rivalry between these two is largely one sided. zenith isn't really aware of andy (let alone that andy is jealous of him), but andy.. he doesn't understand WHY people are giving that guy attention and not him. he doesn't understand why his BOSS (terrence..) is giving zenith more attention than he is to him. and that makes andy pissed off, since he feels like he deserves the love more.

anyway - yeah terrence would fire andy for zenith. no zenith isn't all that interested in betraying chroma local. enjoy these doodles everyone.

woke up today and the first thing in my stupid monkey brain was i wonder why kazuki took care of rei in the flashback in ep 8. like, any normal person would literally just Leave if they had to live with rei in his trash collecting dumpster of a house. but kazuki didn't. he stayed and he cleaned and he went out of his way to turn that dumpster into a clean and welcoming home. why?

and then i realised like. kazuki probably saw himself in rei. especially right after yuzuko's death, kazuki was probably the exact same as rei. maybe he wasnt as unhealthy or lazy but he definitely would've recognised that listless look in rei's eyes, the way rei was just going through the motions, the empty and uncaring way he carried himself. and maybe kazuki wouldn't know anything about rei's past, but he would be able to empathise with that emptiness.

and maybe that's why he started cleaning. maybe when he saw himself reflected back at him, he realised he would've wanted someone else to step in, to take care of him when he himself couldn't do that. so that's exactly what he did. and in the process of throwing himself into this job, of taking care of the house and of rei, he could give himself something to focus on and to think about which wasn't yuzuko's death and his own guilt and remorse.

and rei, well, he wouldn't understand why kazuki started cleaning. he might know about kazuki's past and his dead wife, but he probably wouldn't make the connections. but what he would understand is the warmth and kindness that kazuki showed him. and he would realise that warmth and kindness felt nice. he says as much in ep8, when he tells kazuki he didn't think much of him until he started cleaning. he doesn't say it directly, rarely shows it even, but he does appreciate what kazuki does. and he likes having kazuki around. because it adds spice to his life which he never had before. and rei may not like spice, he may say he can't handle it, but when it's given to him he'll eat it and he'll enjoy it [ep1]. and the more spice you have, the greater your tolerance becomes, and one day you'll wake up thinking to yourself i want to have something spicy. the more love you have, the greater your openness becomes, and one day you'll wake up thinking to yourself i want to love and to be loved. and you'll do just that. you'll buy the spicy food, and you'll love the people around you.

because food is bland without any spice.

and life is bland without any love.
