Valdemar - Touch headcanons
Tumblr media
-Valdemar isn't very touchy, but it is only because they don't see the point. Not that they don't like it, it just doesn't come to their mind : you'll ask them for a hug and they will respond something like "what for ?". I think it's mainly because they've lived for so long. When you keep living for centuries and the people around you wither away, you kind of learn how to detach yourself from them and avoid getting attached as to not suffer unnecessarily in the end. So imagine the shock when you're starting to get attached to them and they realize they're also kind of attached to you.
-once persuaded you need it however, they will give small affectionate touches here and there (a hand on small of the back, a kiss on the forehead, resting their head on your shoulder while they watch you do something, holding your hand) ; they have to remember what physical affection is like, because they gave it so little importance since they've turned into a demon. A little awkward at first but they get the hang of it eventually.
-What about intimacy? You will have to prove to be the most trustworthy and respectful person in the world for them to even show their hands. But once you do gain their trust, something like (the bath scene) will happen. But if you try initiating anything too drastic they're more likely to back off. They need their own pace and will allow you very progressively (and I mean very progressively) to initiate anything serious. However it'll never go further than a make-out session. Never.
-Don't expect them to be affectionate in public, no no. Valerius commented on how they'd gotten softer once and the poor man found himself strapped to a chair and forced to watch them dissect someone. If you try : will nudge you or tap your hand away. Not to be mean, they just don't want to.
-Overall, where they're most affectionate is in bed. They'll hold you while you sleep, as you'll hold them. But that's really it.
-However there is one exceptional instance where their behavior will shift completely : It is if you make a deal to live as long as they will. They'll- they'll break down. You've never seen them cry before but this sure is going to bring tears to their eyes. They won't break out sobbing but will hug you for two hours straight, occasionally sniffling. Because it means that now they can get attached. Now they don't have to worry about you being mortal anymore. Now they can allow themselves to love you. It'll take them some time to fully come to terms with the fact that they are having feelings again, since it's a very human thing, but with your support and patience, they'll manage to let themselves feel fully. They're still a little reserved, especially in public, though now that you're immortal too, they've considered making your relationship public.
Then they will be much more affectionate with you. Expect more hugs, more hand holding, more kisses, a bit more frequent make-out sessions, some dancing even.
-Congrats you two are alive forever now. You'll make a legendary duo in scientific history.

Tumblr media
-So I've already explored cat-like behavior with them ('so why is it that when I-', am I right?) and I headcanon they stand in rays of sunlight with their eyes half closed like our beloved furballs do. Or like reptiles. I don't know. I'm pretty sure they have vertical translucid eyelids underneath the normal ones. It's warm. It's nice. You can almost hear them purring (they don't, you're just imagining it). But they don't actively think about it you know, they just be walking and suddenly there's a warm ray of sunlight hitting them and they freeze in their tracks like 'huh. That's nice.' and then will stay close to the window half asleep for... A while.
-Speaking of sleep, I think they actually sleep. Just... They do it for three days straight every seven months.

Headcanon where after so many arguments between the batkids and Bruce over his paranoia and complete disregard for his kids privacy, the entire family had compromised with (in the healthiest way possible) downloading life360 on their phones and that's how they all keep track of each other.
Now Bruce knew that this is mostly for his benefit and is supposed to be a healthy alternative for his unhealthy paranoia and helicopter parenting, but what he wasn't expecting was for his kids to start keeping track of him.
He's putting gas in his car and Dick calls him because apparently Dick has been watching him drive around on the app? And Bruce is currently at a gas station thats right around the corner from a Taco Bell and now Dick wants him to get food for everyone since he's already there.
He's driving home from a meeting and Steph calls him because her and Duke were shopping in the area and wants to know if he can pick them up, when he asks how she knew he was on the same street, he gets a "Oh I just like to stalk everyone on the app for funsies." as an answer.
Jason calls him and he can barely get out a hello before Jason cuts him off, "Bruce why the fuck is your phone battery on 5%, charge your damn phone" which completely stuns him because why does he know that. He clears his throat before answering. "Jason, what?"
"Everyone can see each others phone batteries on '360, now charge your phone." Is all he gets before Jason hangs up on him.

Prompt:
A bit of dream and time magic become tangled on accident and result in robin!Jason sharing a dreamscape with one of the batfam post Ethiopia.
They can’t talk to or hear each other. They can only see each other.
It takes a while for the future Bat in question to figure out this is not just a nice dream where they get to spend time with a happy, carefree, safe Jason. And now it’s a race against time to find a way to convince him not to go to Ethiopia without using words. :)

Im in love with how the hearts are represented by nether stars,, its just one really cool to think of, instead of it being some modded in thing.
Like do you think the lifesteal members ever look at the night sky and think its alive? The night sky so full of lives, shining and shimmering just out of reach. Do they stare at the nightsky with greed, those with less hearts, do they stare with envy?
Do they ever kill the wither and think how remarkably similar they are to hearts? Holding the nether star close, like it might give them a life back. Do they identify witht he wither, they also drop those same stars when they die after all?
And then, how does it feel to hold a star/life. Does it burn like a real star? Is it freezing cold? Does it thump in rhythms or pulse with light? We are all made of star dust after all, the lifesteal members are just more star than most.

There's something increadibly twisted about Dazai saying "certainly" with this much conviction, when he himself was struggling to find a reason to live in the Port Mafia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even worse when you remember that he'd declared his desire to watch the mafia burn in Stormbringer. Simply because he was bored of it all. Killing, death, schemes. All of it was the same. Everything became mundane.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dazai never found any meaning in living in the Port Mafia, but here he is, promising Akutagawa the one thing he never got ahold of. Guaranteeing that Akutagawa would find it.
And the funny thing is, he did.
Tumblr media
Dazai, in the end, did give Akutagawa a reason to live. But here's the catch: It's primarily tied to him. Not to the mafia, not to some high-end goal related to Akutagawa as a person, but to the suicidal executive.
And it makes sense, in hindsight.
Despite Dazai's visible efforts to make Akutagawa use his head more than his ability, he's the one (whether intentionally or unintentionally) who molded Akutagawa into this person, hungry for validation from his senior more than anything. And how you look at it (Dazai's intentions) determines if it was either a plan doomed from the start, or a perfectly calculated one.
Akutagawa would never want to seek more than what he was taught to seek. Would never stop being Dazai's lapdog. Would never grow a conscience that defines him, shape him into his own person. Would never hope for more than the Port Mafia, being Dazai's shadow.
In turn, Dazai would never need to worry about Akutagawa's intentions, only his executions. Something far easier to discipline someone over.
Tumblr media
From the very beginning, Akutagawa was a wild card Dazai needed to moderate. So he made his approval all he should seek. He made him strive for nothing more.
He made Dazai all Akutagawa is.
And once he fulfills his wish to end his life, Akutagawa will be gone as well.

When Ming Fan finally fought his way through the underbrush to where the Rift had appeared, it was already too late. Shizun and Luo Binghe stood at the edge of the yawning chasm, swords unsheathed and pointed at each other. He hadn’t thought much of it when Shen Qingqiu had flown past him so soon after the earthquake that had torn open the Rift, but he could now see there was something very wrong. Shen Qingqiu’s back was turned to Ming Fan and his face hidden, but he could see plainly the fear and confusion on Luo Binghe’s face. Along with the glowing, damning mark on his forehead. Something demonic.
Ming Fan gripped the foliage, forcing himself not to run out. Not yet. He’d end up dead or wishing he was. He had mocked Luo Binghe early in the Conference, yes, but he knew the younger boy had done nothing to merit this kind of punishment—!
In a matter of seconds, Xiu Ya had stabbed forward, Zheng Yang had shattered, and Luo Binghe had staggered back into the Rift.
Everything seemed to still.
Ming Fan sucked in an breath and darted out of the foliage—but it was too late. Luo Binghe’s arm vanished over the edge just as Ming Fan ran past their shizun. He lunged forward the last few feet, fingers clawing at Luo Binghe’s forearm just in time. Caught, held. The sudden weight had him crashing again against the ground and the wind was knocked out of him. The taste of charred earth mixed with that of fresh blood where he’d nearly bitten his tongue in half.
But that was inconsequential. Not when he could feel the weight at the end of his arm that told him he didn’t fail. Even when the only person he needed to acknowledge that fact was someone he couldn’t stand. No one deserves to die like this, Ming Fan thought viciously. Not even him.
Dangling below him, Luo Binghe’s eyes were wide with terror and confusion, at odds with the damning, demonic seal glowing on his forehead. But there was something like gratitude there as well, out of place and so painfully frail.
For a fragile second, it felt like they were breathing the same
“Shixiong—”
With a cry, he was wrenched from Ming Fan’s grip and into the Abyss below. Ming Fan’s cry was strangled in his throat.
He didn’t know how long he remained there, clenching the burned grass with white-knuckled fingers and straining his eyes to see through the acrid smoke that rose from the chasm for even the barest glimpse of Luo Binghe. But time moved on and the Rift sealed shut and when Ming Fan blinked and once more became aware of his surroundings, he realized he was not alone.
Shen Qingqiu loomed over him like a stone Buddha, face cold as jade. His spiritual sword was once more sheathed, his robes neat and not one hair out of place. As though he hadn’t had a hand in what had happened here.
“You… you killed him,” Ming Fan breathed, still unable to fully process what had just taken place. But that’s what it was, a death sentence fed to the hungry maw of the Endless Abyss.
Shen Qingqiu. “He was a stain upon our sect.”
Ming Fan could feel the rage slowly rise. “He was a disciple of Qing Jing Peak. He was your disciple.” Acknowledging it was like vinegar on his tongue but a boy was dead because of him. He stared at Shen Qingqiu as if seeing him for the first time. Stripped of his elegance and his masks…
“He was a demon.” Shen Qingqiu sneered down at him. “There is no need to explain to you why he needed to be eradicated.”
Ming Fan tore burning eyes away from that frigid, impassive mask. He couldn’t bear looking at the man he had so long idolized. Instead he stared at the ground, in fear he would do or say something he could not undo. And beside his knee he saw slivers of metal.
The shards of Zheng Yang, tangled in the burned grass. Ming Fan’s vision blurred and his breath grew sharp and ragged, anger slamming into him full force. He wrapped his fingers around the pieces, the razor pain of their edges grounding him as the rest of his world unraveled like poorly woven cloth. His shizun had failed him.
And he had failed his shidi.
#svsss#bingfan#ming fan#luo binghe#shen qingqiu#shen jiu#my writing#I had some vague ideas abt the aftermath#how ming fan tries to tell the other peak lords what happened and what SQQ did but he’s forced into closed-door cultivation to shut him up#it’s a cover up basically and over the years he’s in there his minor qi deviations build up without treatment#meanwhile LBH in the abyss has LOTS of things to contemplate while he’s going through boot camp in literal hell#he’s got some good memories to sustain him in the abyss—his mom + nyy’s kindness + weirdly his accidental dreamwalking into mf’s memories#after the demon invasion#and learned a few uncomfortable truths abt his shixiong and his messed up family (see my headcanons for ming fan 😥 sorry bby)#after LBH gets out of jail and starts his revenge spree a la count of monte cristo#he does some dreamwalking reconnaissance to check out CQMS’s defenses and notices ming fan is noticeably absent#stuff happens and there’s more plot in there somewhere ig#but eventually LBH gets to Cang Qiong and literally tears the mountain apart to get to the Lingxi caves to find his halfdead situationship#idk that’s all I’ve really had in my notes for this au#also meng mo being a little asshole to post-abyss LBH lol#if anyone wants this au#please#take it#aus I’d love to read#aus I’d love to write#but have no time/motivation/inspiration to do so#and if you do pls credit me/send me a link bc I love reading what creative paths others take

Idk how good of an idea this is, but my brain has been rotating the idea of Martin having an emotional breakdown of sorts at some point past when everyone has usually gone home, and trying to hide in Jon's office so he can cry about his fears of friends getting replaced. Only to find Jon hasn't quite left yet and he ends up getting comforted by Jon.

[ cw: dismemberment / ]
I think a lot about how Leo’s rescue could have easily ended in him losing a leg as the portal snaps shut on the Krang still clutching the limb, or, alternatively, only having Leo’s right arm make it out, still held dearly in his brother’s hand as the rest of Leo is left behind. (The latter hits even harder, as it directly parallels his future self in the worst of ways.)
I think a lot about how so many things could have gone wrong during the course of the movie with even a little bit of a change, but it really is harrowing how much of a coin-flip the entirety of the Prison Dimension rescue was.
#rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#rottmnt leo#rottmnt headcanons#rise leo#dismemberment /#if literally any part of the prison dimension rescue was different it would have ended Very Badly#mikey came in clutch for doing the impossible in the first place#raph grabbing leo and not once letting go was vital#and donnie directly hitting the krang was essential#hell leo having the ability to reach out at all in the state he was in was a miracle#listen I think about the prison dimension a lot if you couldn’t tell#for the next tags:#strangulation mention /#physical trauma induced mutism /#potential death mention /#potential sibling death mention /#barely it mainly focuses on if he lives but /#I also think about how Leo’s trachea could have easilyyy given out as Raph (krangified) was choking him#can you imagine the last words raph hearing from his little brother being I’m sorry?#he’d likely live as the hamato bros are built different but imagine if he straight up can’t talk again after#the bros having no idea what Leo’s plan is but they suddenly feel him disappear with the portal#or also#imagine all he gets out in his hoarse voice is to beg Casey to close the portal before his family HEARS the sudden silence like a knife#even if he gets saved his voice may be wrecked or even gone for good#what am I writing wait-#also for my point on leo losing his arm paralleling his future self#imagine fate being a thing in this world but a VERY situational thing#imagine it makes it so that leo has to lose a limb#but not just that - it also ties his presence directly with the Krang’s - so if the Krang’s somewhere else…so is he

Dual Destinies ends five days before Christmas. Nearly four, given that 5-5 ends at 9PM.
What is it like at the office, then? At such a normally-comforting time of the year? I mean hell, given the handful of holiday-themed art that exists, I'd even make the assumption that there's always a Christmas/general holiday party at the agency. And not doing that, after making it such a big thing, it... it would just feel wrong.
So they still do it. Everyone's invited, as usual. Optional attendance, no need to show up.
But there's one person they'll drag to the party, no matter if he wants to or not.
I think Apollo was used to spending the holidays with Clay, especially before he got established at the agency. His only friend, his introduction to American holidays, the only person he was fine truly being himself around. Of course, that's all gone, now. And based on how much he talked about his activities with the near-astronaut last year, Phoenix knew.
Maybe he didn't know how exactly to talk to Apollo, but he knew one thing- and that one thing was, he couldn't let the younger man spend the holiday alone.

And All That Follows (ch. 1)
aka: Let's Mitigate This Blast Radius Before It Gets Out of Hand
Alpha Gabriel Shaw dies and everything falls apart.
Ch. 2 // ao3 // 1.9k words
(TW: death, car accident, grief)
EDITS: small grammar stuff, formatting, and new title (formerly known as The Fall of an Alpha, but i hated that name so i chose a new one)
———————————————
Sept 3. 2017, 11:04 pm
Between the raging storm outside and the blaring tv in front of them, they barely heard the knock at the door. It was only on the second attempt did they notice, and even then it could have easily been dismissed as thunder.
Milo gave David and Asher confused glances. “You guys expecting anyone?”
David shook his head. Asher shrugged; he paused the game and tossed his controller behind him as he said, “I’ll get it.”
Milo stretched out in the newly available couch space, calling out, “Could you get more chips while you’re up? We’re almost out.”
“Get them yourself!” Asher retorted as he padded down the hallway, “Unless you’re too short to reach!”
“Oh fuck right off!”
Asher chuckled as he reached the front door. He didn’t bother looking through the peephole before answering, but as soon as he saw who it was, he wished he had. It would’ve given him a moment to steel himself.
An officer was standing in the hallway, her dripping face starkly grim. Asher recognized her as a shifter from a neighboring pack.
“Evening. Beta David Shaw lives here, yes?” she asked.
Asher tightened his grip on the door handle. “Uh...yeah, he’s um my roommate.”
“Is he here now?”
“Can I uh, ask what this is about?” Asher replied, his voice cracking slightly.
“There’s been an accident.”
It felt like the ground gave out from underneath him. Like a blast of thunder had gone off in his chest.
“Hey, Ash, who is it?” David called from the living room.
Asher ignored him. “Gabe?” he whispered, eyes wide.
She gave him a small nod.
“Is he…just tell me, is he dead?”
She shifted her weight uneasily before nodding. “Yes.”
“Come in.”
He moved aside to let her in, closing the door behind them. “He’s uh, he’s in the…um...follow me,” Asher said breathlessly. His feet were like bricks as he led the officer down the hallway.
Milo and David looked up to see a very pale Asher hurry across the living room and practically cower in the corner.
“Who was…” the words died in David’s mouth as he and Milo looked over at the officer standing in the doorway to the living room, rainwater trickling down her coat and pooling at her feet.
David stood, an edge of authority in his voice as he spoke, “Officer. What can I do for you?”
“Beta Shaw, please, have a seat,” she replied.
He stayed standing. “What’s going on?”
“David…” Asher pleaded.
David’s eyes shot over and met Asher’s—they were already red and glassy. He lowered himself back onto the couch, then looked over at the officer as dread climbed into his chest.
She stepped forward, her voice stern but not unkind, “Beta Shaw. About forty-five minutes ago, Alpha Gabriel Shaw was in a car accident. He died on the scene.”
David had never really known grief before. Sure, his mom had died, but he had been too young to really know what was going on. A few distant relatives and pets had died over the years, too, but none of that had seemed to really affect him. The deaths of his grandparents had been sad, but not debilitatingly so. He'd begun to think that maybe death just didn't affect him that way. He thought maybe he just wasn't built to grieve.
It was instantaneous. It felt like shifting—a full and all-encompassing transformation. Grief ran like magic through his bones, warping his core and leaving him unrecognizable. Those in the room felt it—Asher especially. He almost reached out, almost said something, but David was already talking, his voice cavernous:
"Thank you, officer, for informing me of the situation. Where is his body now?"
The officer blinked in surprise, but quickly composed herself. "The coroner has taken him to the nearest morgue."
"I assume they'll want me there to confirm his identity?"
"Yes, but you don't have to go imme—"
"Can you take me?"
She furrowed her brow. "Yes, sir."
David moved to grab his coat, and Milo shot up. “David, wai—”
“Stay here, both of you. Don’t tell anyone what’s happened. I’ll call for an emergency meeting tomorrow morning,” David commanded, “I want to avoid as much panic as possible.”
And with that, he left, pushing through the doorway and into the hall. The officer took a deep breath before following.
Milo sank back down. The two heard the front door open and shut.
For a minute, they didn’t speak. The storm swelled outside, rattling the windows of the apartment. The pause music on the tv played over and over at a low volume.
Staring blankly at the wall opposite him, Milo mumbled, “We’ve gotta tell Tank.”
“We can’t. You heard David,” Asher croaked from his corner.
“David’s not in his right mind,” Milo retorted, his eyes beginning to burn, “Gabe is like a father to Tank.”
“…was,” Asher whispered.
Milo locked eyes with him, silently pleading.
"I...I'm going to the bathroom," Asher replied before hurrying down the hallway. He couldn't say yes, but he wasn't going to stop him. Especially when Milo was right. They needed to tell Tank before they heard it from anyone else or, god forbid, at the pack meeting.
Asher closed the bathroom door and leaned his weight against it as sobs tore through his body, robbing him of everything—sound, breath, strength. He slid down the length of the door to the floor in a silent, heaving heap as his mind spun.
He gave himself five minutes.
———————————————
Milo pulled out his phone, groaning in frustration as he struggled to read his screen, tears flooding his vision. He wiped his eyes with one hand as he pulled up Tank’s contact with the other.
Tank was somewhere loud; he could hear it through the phone.
“Miles, what’s up?” Tank all but shouted.
“I need you to come to Ash and David's,” Milo rasped.
“What? Wait-wait, gimme a sec,” Tank said. He could hear them pushing through a crowd, then the sound of a door opening and slamming shut, followed by the shush of rain. They must have moved outside.
“What’s going on? Are you hurt?” Tank asked.
“No I just…I need you here. Now.”
He could hear the panic in their voice. “...I can be there in twenty—no, fifteen.”
“No! Don’t speed. Please, Tank, drive slowly. It’s late, it’s raining, it’s not—” Milo held his phone away from his mouth for a second as a sob slipped out, “It’s not safe.”
Tank must’ve heard it. Their words shot out of their mouth as they strode into the rain, “Is David there? Ash? I swear, Miles, if you’re hurt and not telling me—”
“Tank, please,” Milo begged.
“Okay! Okay, I’ll be there soon.”
“…we’ll leave the door unlocked. Drive slow.”
Once they hung up, Milo put his phone on the coffee table. He bit his clenched fist as tears pooled in his eyes and his chest convulsed.
————————————————
Everything was happening too quickly; David couldn’t keep up. One minute he was getting into his car, ready to follow the cruiser in front of him to the morgue. The next, he was looking down at a shrouded body, being asked if he was ready.
Ready? Fuck no, he wasn’t ready. He wasn’t ready for any of this. This wasn’t supposed to happen. Gabe wasn’t supposed to die suddenly, in his prime, leaving his 24-year-old son to pick up the pieces. Leaving him an orphan.
Orphan.
The word made a desert of his mouth. He was alone. Entirely. His last safety net. His last pillar of support. His last corner to hide in. Gone.
David was bare, flayed open for the world to see. He’d never felt so exposed, and it made him panic. But there was no time to panic. He was still the Pack Beta. He still had a job to do. And for as long as he could, he’d throw himself into it, fully. So David chiseled a hard look onto his face and nodded.
The sheet was pulled back.
Everyone always said David looked like his dad. He took so much pride in that comparison. But in that moment, he saw no resemblance. He didn’t have an out-of-body experience, seeing himself on the table. He didn’t spiral at the sudden realization of his own mortality spurred by the likeness of his dead father.
Because that wasn’t Alpha Gabriel Shaw, revered Founder of the Shaw Pack.
That wasn’t Gabe, loyal friend and loving father.
The body before David was just a man, battered and broken beyond repair. It felt wrong to claim this husk as his father, felt like a lie.
But David had a job to do.
“Yes, that’s him.”
————————————————
When sound returned to his body and his sobs were no longer silent, Asher muzzled them with a frantic hand. He couldn’t let Milo hear. He had to be there for him. Once his self-allotted time was up, Asher rose on shaky legs. He pressed a washcloth to his face. He straightened his clothes. He smiled.
Leaving the bathroom, Asher went down the hallway into the kitchen and began to heat some water. He pulled down mugs. He got out tea. He waited. He poured the water. He wiped his tears. He smiled.
The mugs clinked in his hand as he carried them into the living room. He set them on the coffee table. He placed one tea bag in each. He sat next to Milo. He smiled.
“You get ahold of Tank?”
“Yeah,” Milo croaked, “They’re coming over.”
“Good. That’s good.”
He smiled.
————————————————
After ten minutes, Milo’s phone began to buzz.
Asher removed his arm from around Milo’s shaking shoulders and grabbed the phone off the coffee table, handing it to him. Milo cleared his throat before answering.
“Tank?”
“Is he dead?!?”
Milo could hear the storm on their end, along with cars rushing past them. Were they still driving? He prayed to whoever or whatever would listen that they'd at least pulled over.
“Wh-what?” Milo stammered.
“I saw his fucking car, Milo! Smashed up in the middle of the fucking intersection!! Is Gabe fucking dead?!?”
Asher gaped at Milo; Tank wasn't on speakerphone, but they were shouting loud enough for him to hear.
“ANSWER ME MILO!”
Milo glanced at Asher, who was vehemently shaking his head no. Not now. Not this way. Wait.
“…yes, he’s dead—”
“And David?!”
“David wasn’t in the car. But Tank, I need you t—” Milo was cut off as the line went dead, “Tank? Tank?!?”
Asher grabbed Milo's arm.
“They-they hung up," Milo whimpered, "At least I think they did. I hope they did…oh god." He called Tank again. It went to voicemail.
"Fuck!" he yelled, throwing his phone across the room.
Asher rubbed the heels of his hands into his eyes, scrubbing away the hot tears before they fell but no doubt turning the lighter patches of his skin a blotchy red. He put his arm back around Milo as he fished out his own phone from his pocket and called Tank.
Voicemail.
He hung up and tried again.
Voicemail.
Milo growled and stood up abruptly. He grabbed his coat and moved towards his phone.
“Wh-where’re you going?” Asher stammered.
“To Tank’s place,” Milo replied, picking up his phone, “You stay, in case they come here.”
“Milo, it’s still really bad out there, maybe you should wai—”
“I’ll have to call one of Colm’s old coworkers, find out where the crash was.”
“What? Milo—”
“I need to drive by it. Maybe Tank’s still there. Or maybe,” Milo’s breath caught in his throat, “maybe they crashed too. I don’t know. So I’ll drive by there on my way to Tank’s. I’ll text you when I get there.”
Milo was out the door before Asher could speak. Alone, he crumbled, sobs overtaking him once more.

I have a problem
I'm falling on the rabbit hole of the batfamily, most espeficially the x reader fanfics and headcanons, and it's turning into a hyperfixation that's consuming me. I'm not even joking, i've been these two last days obsessively writing in my mind a full au of yandere!batfam x neglected!reader (yes, it's the most common and everyone has seen it already but HUSH). I hate my brain. I'm not even that deep into the dc universe, haven't been in several years. I'm team Marvel ffk
The worst part is that it's not even a deeply defined plot, like my current proyect. I just have the vibes and random scenarios and headcanons about the mc, and a bunch of cliches from all the batfam x neglected! reader put together in a mix. My arcane playlist isn't helping either. And recently I've played Watch Dogs Legion again and it's only giving me inspiration for this au.
So warning: Maybe I'll post a few things about this to get it out of my brain, because I can't be the only one suffering here. Don't worry to those who follow my other writing, I have no intention of abandoning it (not when I have already everything planned), but it's going to take slower than anticipated.

Making sense of love for love's sake: the game
Despite all the things i absolutely adore about how the plot unravels and expands in love by love's sake, upon first watch, there's some things i couldn't piece together, which @lurkingshan echoes in their post:
'The way the author was messing with Myungha and forcing cruel choices on him really does not track with a desire to help him find happiness.'
And to preface, this is not something i fully get yet either. I think i'll need a good month and a sizeable reading list of relevant resources to understand just what/who this author/sunbae is and what his role is and how he is associated with myungha. But as always with the best shows for meta (aka bad buddy), as a plot unfolds, you can always find a better understanding by looking backwards and re-contextualising what you've already seen. so i watched ep 1, specifically the scene between myungha and his sunbae at the bar. And i will talk about how everything said in this scene has a whole new meaning now we know the full story, but for now i wanna focus on that question that they keep coming back to; "Then... will you change it for him?".
When you watch the show for the first time, your brain follows the simplest, most obvious version of the story you're being told, one where myungha has been pulled into the world of his sunbae's novel that's being turned into a game and given the opportunity to fix the thing he didn't like about it; making yeowoon happy, and thus you just think the rules of the game are imposed by the author, and so when these cruel choices first come up, you see them as the difficult roadblocks that are nevertheless necessary to any kind of game, forcing the player to make an impossible choice so that the game can continue in a certain direction and its only after that you learn whether it was the right choice or not, or there is no right choice, it simply changes the game you are playing.
And when its revealed what this game actually is, at first i tried to interpret these cruel choices, namely the choice between yeonwoon and myungha's grandma, and at best i could come up with the concept of this being a choice between staying stuck to the past aka choosing his grandma, even though he knows that choice doesn't mean she's safe bc he knows the future where he loses here, its an inevitability, but thats the small happiness he knew before it was taken away and thus that happiness is known and safe, theres no risk, versus choosing to pursue a new happiness, a love of yeowoon and thus himself, which he doesn't know, he hasn't experienced yet, and could be risky. Its a happiness that isn't guaranteed like his grandma, but its a happiness that looks to the future and has hope in it that he can find a new happiness to pursue despite what has happened in his past.
And that fits nice, okayish. But then i watched ep 1 and heard that question "Then... will you change it for him?" And watching through the rest of the eps, we come back to this scene at the bar and each time we get a new run up to the author asking this question, either new dialogue is added or we hear a different piece of the conversation entirely. It starts at the beginning of ep 1 as:
"Because Cha Yeowoon is the only one who's miserable." "It can't be helped that some people's lives are like that" "The fact that some people are destined to live that kind of life is what's vile."
Then a bit later in ep 1 we go back and its expanded.
"It can't be helped that some people's lives are like that" "The fact that some people are destined to live that kind of life is what's vile." "Why? Do you think you'd write it differently?" "Yes, definately. Someone like Cha Yeowoon, or someone like me with an awful life, can also be happy."
And then all the way on in ep 6, we get this new dialogue.
"I don't like talking about destiny." "Why?" "Because it means everything is predestined." "Then do you not believe in fate?" "Fate and destiny are the same. My grandma likes to say that. She said life is like a written book, and how you'll live and die are written in it. (...)I don't like things like this. Even if fate is already destined, I think it can still be changed. Otherwise, there's no point in trying." "Really? Then Myungha..."
And while we don't hear the author ask the same question, I feel like him getting cut off like that insinuates that the conversation leads to that same ending point. All that is to say, every time we hear this question being asked, its like we learn more and more about what this whole thing is, what the game is, what myungha is saying he will do by agreeing to do what the author asks. And every time, we see myungha being more defiant against the idea of yeowoon being resigned to his miserable ending. He starts off thinking that kind of life is destined, and while it's miserable, its not something he can fight. Then he says he'd want to write the story differently, bc yeowoon, or even him, could be happy. He challenges the idea that yeowoon, and thus himself, is fated to be miserable, and opens up the possibility for happiness for them both, but doesn't yet have the means or resolve to do it, its like he knows its possible on a fundamental level, but doesn't see it as something he can actually achieve. But then we circle back to the idea of destiny and books, both of which came up in the previous quote, and seems incredibly pertinent seen as this whole thing is about a novel this author has written. Myungha talks about how he hates the idea that life is a book where everything written is predestined to happen, from the moment you live to the moment you die. He says "Even if fate is already destined, I think it can still be changed. Otherwise, there's no point in trying." That vile way of life he described before that he said was destined, he is now saying it can be changed, and that possibility is now something he's holding onto, its what he sees hope in so that he can keep trying, bc now he finally is trying, he has the resolve, he's trying to realise this thing, this impossibility of rewriting the life he thought was destined through the way he loves yeowoon.
And coming back to those cruel choices, given this fresh context, it made me think. bc this isn't actually a game that myungha has been put into where the rules are dictated by an author completely separate from him. He said himself, he'd rewrite it, he'd change things for yeowoon. And when you start to think of it less as him fighting against a rigid, removed system and more like him being a character in a story he is trying to rewrite himself, that has both the author and his own limitations, or just his own if you're in the school of thought that the author is some figment or part of myungha himself or his conciousness, then you can start to see where these cruel choices might come from. They could be myungha, the author making edits to this new story, imposing his own doubts and limitations on himself. When he says he has to pick between Yeowoon and his grandma, what if that's the new author myungha seeing this story unfold and thinking no this isn't right, he can't have it all, i'm not deserving of this much happiness.
And what makes me like this idea even more is that when we get that second choice between ending after 14 days or getting 100 days back at the cost of resetting Yeowoon's affection to 0, that whole conversation happens in what I think the bar actually is which is this frozen moment in time where myungha is in the water with this extension of a voice in his head that is talking through these things. That conversation in itself needs its own post, but when you look at it both as a decision to break up or not or a decision to hold onto life or not, you can see how the author is just this soundboard relaying the decisions myungha is going through in his head. The author's voice is his own, weighing up his decisions. And if he is the author here, it only reinforces that the person making the rules of this game is him. You can even extend it further to the idea of the debuffs, where he puts in place this thing that makes it so he causes harm to yeowoon when he's around, and its only by garnering affection that he can prevent it. He gives himself a reason from the get go to stay away from yeowoon and reason it as him doing it for yeowoon's safety, when in fact the only way to make yeowoon safe is to increase his affection, which he can only do by being near him. Its a system that at first gives myungha a reason to stay away aka not like himself, but ultimately says the only way you're going to make yeowoon like you, or the only way you can like yourself, is if you accept risk. And that in itself screams to me of a myungha writing in these game systems that are trying to encourage his own-self love while falling at the hurdle of his own lack of self-worth.
The idea is still messy in my head even for me, but i just really like the idea that myungha could be trying to fix this thing both as a character and game master, and that both these versions of him have these flaws that manifest in their different ways to cause the events we see. It kinda is the definition of being your own worst enemy, the idea that in order to work towards loving yourself, the biggest obstacle you have to encounter is yourself, bc we are the ones holding ourselves back, making all these rules that make it harder to like ourselves and pursue our own happiness. The voices in our head telling us that we aren't good enough and aren't deserving are our own, and while the things that happen to us can inform what they say, we're the one's reinforcing those words. And what this show teaches us is that, if we're the one holding that pen all along, we can choose to change what those words are. If we make the rules, you don't have to create a game with concrete ultimatums, you can create a game where rules don't control you. Instead, you make the decisions, and you can make the ones that make you happy.

#Doodles#Clinical Trial#Damned#Lee Smith#Angel Martinez#Struggling and Suffering - as one does at the Institute hehe#Uughhhghh I was so excited and enjoyed writing this chapter ♪ Lee's so creepy! He's not even Lee Smith anymore and he's still so creepy!!!!#And Angel's having a rough one of it too with blaming themself for what happened :(#The Angel I've been writing took the Accept-Reject route and stayed to watch#More specifically to plead with Lee not to do it but that's technically non-canon :P#Safe to say they feel pretty conflicted about what all happened#They both want each other - Angel specifically wants to be wanted - and they are in the Worst place for it#Worse than the original? Uhhhhh...... No comment lol#(Personally I think so because Lee isn't just a part-time medical practitioner that Angel could back out of if they were desperate)#(Here they're stuck and Lee does Everything in his power - which is more than if Angel was out walking free! - to keep them in proximity)#(He also doesn't know that Angel wants him in return - regardless of how conflicted Angel feels it's just! It's creepy!!! Which is the idea)#They're so fun to write ahhh they both are! Their internal worlds so different <3#And while these two are so fun to write - it honestly is the fact that I Also get to write about the Institute as well ahhh <3 <3#Getting to write about my headcanons and favourite elements ahh#Getting to explore one through the other! How they'd react to the Institute - how the Institute would push them around ahh#It's so so so incredibly fun I love the setting and I love these two it's so enjoyable to investigate >:3c#And on top of that I've also both been going through my other fandom playlists and pulling from there As Well As new songs!#Their playlist is shaping up more than it has any rights to hhh#Shock of shocks but ''Want you to want me'' (minor key) has been moved into the rotation lol#Definitely not thinking about Lee's Ahem fantasy~ (lol) in regards to that or anything either lol#I think I have to just admit that Flagpole Sitta is just a Damned song generally - though some lines fit Lee particularly well#Running underground with the moles indeed

Act Zero
Summary:
What was it like, to become a God of storytelling? To suddenly be able to not just see the very writing of the world around you- but reach out and touch it? Change it? What was it like becoming something you could never even conceptualize before? AKA, a somewhat abstract retelling of Click Clack's ascension from his point of view.
