I have a problem

I'm falling on the rabbit hole of the batfamily, most espeficially the x reader fanfics and headcanons, and it's turning into a hyperfixation that's consuming me. I'm not even joking, i've been these two last days obsessively writing in my mind a full au of yandere!batfam x neglected!reader (yes, it's the most common and everyone has seen it already but HUSH). I hate my brain. I'm not even that deep into the dc universe, haven't been in several years. I'm team Marvel ffk

The worst part is that it's not even a deeply defined plot, like my current proyect. I just have the vibes and random scenarios and headcanons about the mc, and a bunch of cliches from all the batfam x neglected! reader put together in a mix. My arcane playlist isn't helping either. And recently I've played Watch Dogs Legion again and it's only giving me inspiration for this au.

So warning: Maybe I'll post a few things about this to get it out of my brain, because I can't be the only one suffering here. Don't worry to those who follow my other writing, I have no intention of abandoning it (not when I have already everything planned), but it's going to take slower than anticipated.

For all the random retcons of new information we get, the most absolutely fucked thing about Overwatch is their timeline. Holy shit.

You know that piece of writing advice that tells you to keep concrete numbers to a minimum, especially in terms of stuff like timespans? Well no one at the rotating cast of Blizzard's Overwatch creative team has, because it's resulted in this fucked up situation where it seems like almost all of the cast joined some kind of military/combat organization when/right before they turned 18. Like:

Tracer was a pilot for the Royal Air Force at either like 17-18 was somehow able to be cleared to be a experimental test pilot, at bare minimum, before she was even 20

Cassidy and Ashe founded the Deadlock Gang before they were 20. Cassidy in particular got the whole Boxed Crook treatment when he was like, 17. Meaning he helped found and lead an internationally infamous gang, and was then subsequently press ganged into a black ops unit, before he could legally drink.

Mercy was the head of surgery at a hospital when she was around 18 and joined Overwatch like a year or two after.

Brigitte starting running around helping Reinhardt at 18.

Pharah enlisted in the Egyptian Military when she was either 18 or potentially 17.

Sombra was part of a gang when she was 10 and discovered a conspiracy network that forced her to erase her identity, which she did successfully, before she was 20.

The constant rolling disaster that is Overwatch's game development aside, what really perplexes me about how Blizzard is handling the broader franchise is their continual insistence that a canon narrative exists in spite of their equally continual refusal to tell anyone what it is.

Like, okay, the events of the games aren't canon. Fair enough: the games are multiplayer-only, and you can't account for player actions.

Oh, and the animated short films aren't canon either – they're properly understood as in-universe propaganda, not depictions of actual events. That's a little high concept for you guys, but fine.

But surely the comics are canon, right? Well, no; some of the comics (we're not telling you which ones) were canon at one point, but the writing team has decided to go in a different direction.

My dudes, what is left? The weird Source Filmmaker porn? Is that canon? Well, apparently it's at least as canon as anything else!
