The Current event makes me smile since it kind of confirms a headcanon I had that the Great Seven have animated movies based on them. Makes me wonder about the plot of the movies
Disney should get on the Twisted Wonderland AU Animated Remakes. What is Ursula was a good witch, what if Scar was right to take the throne and did he take it from Mufasa? (Or whoever is the stand in for him)
The Evil/Beautiful Queen...actually GOOD?
Yeah, it makes sense! Since the Great Seven are historical figures and the stuff of legends, surely there would be popular media made in their image. It’s like how the Disney fairy tales borrow from stories in the public domain or how there are historical retellings and reinventions (Hamilton, anyone?).
I believe TWST has mentioned films based on their own stories and history before too, but purely in the animated sense rather than live action. In book 3, Ace and one of the Atlantica Museum guards talk about an animated movie based on the tale of the mermaid princess and her prince; this movie is said to have come out ~30 years ago, which corresponds with Disney’s animated The Little Mermaid. Ace compliments the movie’s soundtrack too way to stroke your own ego, Disney/j.
Later on in Tapis Rouge, the characters discuss other films based on the Great Seven, including one Queen of Hearts movie. A Sea Witch movie is also mentioned; in it, she “goes gigantic” and also sings as she brews potions. The Octatrio quite enjoy this particular film.
(Side note: Another anon once suggested to me that people probably also write fanfics of Neige and Vil since they’re celebrities… Think like “My mom sold me to One Direction?!” Wattpad kinds of fics, but replace One Direction with Vil or something. You can read those post here!)
It’s… interesting this event specifically has Vil promoting a live action adaption of an in-universe animated film about the Beautiful Queen—an animated film which was the first full-color animated movie AND it originally released close to 90 years ago. They also reference the funding issues that Disney suffered while producing Snow White + inviting bank employees in to preview the movie to acquire more investments, stating that the studio that made the animated Beautiful Queen experienced the same. The in-game live action is even slated to come out “NEXT YEAR”. They’re not being subtle here with TWST’s references to their own version of the irl Disney Snow White (the live action is coming out in 2025, the OG is also almost 90 years old, etc.). I wonder if the EN server will actually get Tapis Rouge around the time of the irl release of Disney’s live action Snow White as part of a promotional campaign? 😂
UPDATE: There are even more not-so-subtle references to Disney animations in part 4 of the event, including discussion of cel animation, rotoscoping, adding blush to the characters, and how Disney brought in real animals/observed the “real thing” to help with animating similar scenes or subjects. They also cheekily say that most animation nowadays is CG 💀
I know some books under Disney publishing try to show alternate tellings or show the villains in a more sympathetic light, but I don’t know that they would ever commit to fully animating a film like that. It definitely would not happen in the style of traditional animation, Disney no longer seems well-equipped to handle that task 😔 I feel like it would also be pretty niche or might not get overwhelming positive reception with recent audience calls for “true bad guys” instead of twist or sympathetic villains (though I’m not sure what percentage of people watching Disney actually have this opinion).
I do wonder how those “AU” films would work though…? It wouldn’t be as simple as suddenly turning the G7 into “good guys”. The scenario and other characters would also have to drastically change. TWST doesn’t necessarily make the original “good guys” “bad” in a world where the villains are historical figures; we still hear plenty of positive or neutral stories about the achievements of the mermaid princess and other Disney heroes.
There are also times when the same story diverges into multiple separate stories that seemingly have no connection to one another. For example, there is a story where a princess marries a street rat (clearly referencing Aladdin) and they live happily ever after in spite of the difference in their social statuses. However, there simultaneously exists a story in which the Sorcerer of the Sands saves a princess from being deceived by a fake prince (also referencing Aladdin). The same goes for the mermaid princess (Ariel)—there is both a story referring to a “mermaid princess” who married a human prince and also a different story (clearly still pulled from the same film) about a mermaid who made a deal with the Sea Witch to find true love but broke her contract in the end.
Very cool idea, just not sure where it would lead or it it’s feasible or worth it monetarily for Disney.

One underrated aspect of Benrius I haven’t seen talked about: the soundtrack
I don’t know how many musical nerds are there in the camp cretaceous fandom, but if you’re like me then you’ve likely noticed that Darius and Ben are the only main characters to have their own leitmotifs:
No other campers get this treatment, not even Yasammy (they do get a joint theme though which is super cute in its own right)
So why is this a big deal? Well, a character’s leitmotif is basically their trademark, the thing that instantly brings their faces to mind when you hear that specific tune. Think Darth Vader and The Imperial March. It embodies their soul in a sense, shifting in keys and tempos as their journey takes them through joy and sorrow, but never straying from the core signature melody.
A character’s leitmotif often plays when they enter a scene, subtly telling the viewers that hey, this is their moment now, pay attention to them. So what happens when two leitmotifs meet? Well, it could mean many things, but mostly it is meant to imply a significant connection between the two characters they represent. The connection could be antagonistic, friendly, or...
Intimate.
Hear how both their leitmotifs flow seamlessly from one to another, lifting each other up and cornily accompanied by an angelic choir no less. Notice how despite Ben being the one speaking, it is Darius’ motif that plays, because Darius is the star of the scene, the receiving end of Ben’s attention and love. And then, as Darius returns the affection, the score shifts in turn to reflect it, playing Ben’s theme as Darius redirects all of it back to Ben, physically too I might add.
Musical storytelling is an oft underrated aspect of TV and movies, yet when done right it conveys just as much as visuals and dialogues, as any LOTR or Star Wars or Hamilton fan would happily point out to you in much more eloquent words than I can. The story of Darius and Ben is one of subtlety, of stolen glances and longing nights, reflected in the music of their hearts.

okay, so i was thinking about what type of music each one of the avengers would play in the car/quinjet, so here are my thoughts !!
Tony:
Mostly AC/CD obviously, Led Zeppelin , Styx, some lynard skynard, mostly like 80s-90s rock, (or if you get lucky, some milli vanilli.)
Steve:
Yes, a lot of 40s music, feat. Taylor Swift, Marvin Gaye (thanks sam!), Queen, some of The Beetles stuff, maybe even some Bob Marley to be honest :)
Bucky:
As he said in FATWS, he likes 40s music. secretly likes certain Billie Eilish songs, ie; birds of a feather, skinny, the greatest. Would like Hozier, The White Stripes, and Sex On Fire by Kings of Leon. loves ed sheeran songs
would have the saddest relationship with Sailor Song (by Gigi Perez) EVER.
Bruce:
Definitely Classical Music. He definitely seems like the type of person to have the most chaotic self destructive relationship with Requiem by Mozart.
But, sometimes he'll definitely listen to The Beetles and Queen, (probably had a secret addiction to *NSYNC or the Backstreet Boys.) Would lowkey vibe to MARINA and Mother Mother if had the chance.
Clint:
I feel like Clint doesn't listen to a lot of music because he needs all his senses and combined with his hearing problems, it's never really been confident. However, i think if he did listen to music it would be like, Counting Crows, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, etc.
Sam:
This man has two sides and you cannot convince me otherwise.
1. Hip Hop, or just a range of shitty rap to good rap. so 50 cent, eminem, Dr. Dre, P-Diddy 😨, Ludicrious, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye, Travis Scott, XXTENTENTIONXX. i feel like he would've made his dislike for drake very clear from the moment he got famous
2. Marvin Gaye. Jazz. Blues. The whole shebang, all of it, the slow rock, and let's not forget; Michael Jackson.
Natasha:
Again, Like Clint, i don't think she'd really like having the vulnerability of when you're listening to music but, she does like when Tony puts on his music in the Quinjet. I also feel like she'd like The White Girl Music. She genuinely Believes there's nothing better to rock out to than Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield.
Has a hidden Apprieciation for songs like Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy, because of how much she loves to dance to them. (this also applies to movies like black swan, etc.)
Thor:
He just so in love with Disney Movies that he Unironically listens to the soundtracks when someone else shows him how. It's really the only music he willingly listens to on earth. On Asgard however, I think he'd like the musicians there but he's never paid much attention to them.
Loki:
If he found out how to use spotify, his liked songs would be filled with Classical Music, Instrumental Covers of Pop Songs that he doesn't know, some Adele songs, Partition and Haunted by Beyoncé, Some MISSIO songs, Fall Out Boy, Teen Idle by MARINA, Lords, Michael Buble, Sex with a Ghost by Teddy Hyde, Artic Monkeys, PHOEBE BRIDGERS FOR SUREEE.
he is the embodiment of BLUE by Billie Eilish and nobody can convince me otherwise.
HAMILTON, HE WOULD LOVE HAMILTON.

i have a really unhealthy obsession with 2012 Avengers.

do u guys ever feel like fake fans when you only like a certain song from an artist/band ? like i have never claimed to be a fan of the cranberries but when i listen to linger i feel so… idk.. like yes logically nobody should have to be a certified fan to like one song. like youre allowed to like one song and never have listened to any other song from that band. but i have this overwhelming desire to be obsessed with things or maybe its my overwhelming desire to be different and unique and intriguing. whatever it is i know it isnt logical and i know its so odd and i know that i should just be allowed to like a singular song without going on a deepdive of this band but like every time i hear this song my brain is like wowwwww poser alert… sommmmeeones trying to be cool…. like someone get this annoying voice outta my mind!!!!
anyways this is both a rant about my stupid brain and a reminder to you that you can like an artist’s popular songs without feeling bad. including artists that i personally love and am obsessed with. go listen to anti hero. it is catchy. go listen to summertime sadness. its iconic. motion sickness is beautifully written. who cares if its a “tiktok song”
PLUS artists that are already super popular!! going on a tangent now but just because something is popular doesnt mean its bad or even overrated. things can be good. billie eilish is extremely talented. olivia rodrigo’s discography is full of some absolute bangers. and sorry to mention taylor again (im not. i love her music.) but she is an incredible songwriter.
as we all know!!! art is subjective!!! let everyone be happy!!! including yourself!!! unless you listen to like… the hamilton soundtrack. then youre screwed.
just kidding. schuyler sisters is so good. i had a hamilton phase in middle school and it was yeah CRINGE and yeah it was ENJOYABLE and i had FUN. take that.

Love your writing
I was wondering if you could write a Vau daughter x one of Kal Null boys maybe ordo or mereel because the family functions wouldn't function
Satisfied
Summary: You’re the long estranged niece of Walon Vau, your father having cut him out of his life, and yours, after his carelessness caused you to lose a leg. However, when you graduate medical school, Kal Skirata reaches out to you to offer you a job, and you, happily, take the chance.
Pairing: Ordo Skirata x F!Reader
Word Count: 1237
Warnings: None
Tagging: @trixie2023 @n0vqni @imabeautifulbutterfly
A/N: Sorry this took so long! I hope it's close to what you wanted. I already had an idea for a Vau daughter as a character, I just had no ideas to write her, so I put her here. Also, I was listening to the Hamilton Soundtrack when I wrote this, hence the title.
“Welcome to my humble home,” Kal Skirata greets you with a kind smile, his eyes crinkling at the corners as you step down the ramp and over to him, “I’m glad you agreed to take the position.”
You shrug, “Mother and Father were irate. They’re rather done with Mandalorians, I’m afraid.”
“Well, that’s understandable, given the situation.”
“True. As it happens, I have no interest in seeing my uncle, so-”
“He’s not here. And I haven’t told him that I hired you.”
A bright smile crosses your face, “Then there shouldn’t be a problem. You said you had a situation that you were hoping that I would be able to fix? On top of being a proper doctor for your sons?”
“Exactly so,” Kal motions for you to walk with him, “How much do you know about the boys I adopted?”
“Not much,” You say as you easily fall into step with him, “Other than the fact that they’re clones of Jango Fett.”
“They are,” He leads you through the base, “They have sped up aging, which means, as a whole, they have maybe twenty years before they start dying of old age.”
“Well, I can understand why you want that fixed.” You murmur thoughtfully, “I don’t suppose you have any information from Kamino-?”
Kal chuckles, “If I had that I wouldn’t need you, would I?”
You sigh, “Well, there was no harm in asking, I suppose.”
Kal leads you to a door, “Here we are. Your suite. And your lab is just down the hall.” He hands you a keycard, and you wave it in front of the lock, allowing the door to slide open.
The suite is large, with a full kitchen and a separate bedroom, looking more like an apartment than anything else. It’s not decorated, but you can work with that. You’ll order some paint and make it yours, when you have some free time.
“Is there anything you need?”
You set your bag on the coffee table, “Can I see my lab?”
“You don’t want to get settled?”
“Well, I have to wait for my stuff to get delivered anyway, so I might as well take a look at what I have to work with.” You reply with a shrug.
“Of course, follow me.” Kal leads you down the hall and to the lab, and you scan the room with an expert eye. Large, open, clean.
Yes. You can work with this.
There’s a man on the other side of the room, setting up a computer. “Ah,” Kal smiles and guides you over to him, “This is one of my sons.” He says to you, “Ordo, meet the new doctor.” Kal introduces you by name, and you’re not surprised at the way Ordo’s face twitches when he hears your surname.
“Walon Vau is my father’s older brother,” You explain as you scan his face, your head tilted to the side, “It’s uncanny. When you said clones, I thought that they just used Fett as a template and randomized his DNA, not actual duplicates.”
“That is what ‘clone’ means, ad’ika.” Kal replies, amused, and you wave his comments away.
“If I recall correctly, Jango Fett was predisposed to asthma-”
“That’s not a concern. All of the Clones were genetically altered so that they don’t have to worry about that kind of stuff.” Kal replies.
You fold your arms, “Well, that’s going to make my life so much more difficult.” You tilt your head back and think for a moment, “No matter, I’ll make it work.”
Ordo frowns at you, “I suppose, since you’re here, we’ll be getting more visits by Vau.”
“Well, if he shows up, feel free to shoot him…or whatever.” You say dismissively, “He’s not allowed near me. Legally speaking.” You wander off to look at your new toys, “Ah, I almost forgot,” You turn to look at Kal, “My leg isn’t going to be a problem, is it? I’m testing a prototype prosthetic for the next couple of months.”
“It won’t be a problem,” Kal says.
“Grand.” You turn your gaze back to the lab, “This looks great, actually. It’s kind of big, for one person, but If I need to use my chair for whatever reason, there will be plenty of room.”
“Great,” Kal walks over to you, “Do you need anything else?”
“...blood samples. From every clone on base.” You pause, “And everyone else.”
He narrows his eyes at you, “Why?”
“Comparisons. Unless you have a vial of Jango Fett’s unaltered blood on hand?”
“...I do not.”
“I didn’t think so.” You smile at him, “So…blood. From everyone.”
Kal sighs, “Yes ma’am.”
It’s been a year since you’ve started working for Kal Skirata, and, all things considered, you don’t have a bad life.
You’re busy, sure.
But your work is important, and, all things considered, you love it.
You glance to the side as the door to your lab slides open, and Ordo steps into the room.
“Still working, mesh’la?”
“Always,” You spin your stool so you’re facing him, “What brings you to my humble lab, Ordo?”
Ordo eyes one of your machines, which is covered in rubber ducks, “Humble. Right.”
“Hey! The machine won’t work unless the ducks are all there.” You say with a defensive frown.
Ordo shoots you an amused look, “Of course it won’t.” He crosses the room to your side, “I’m here, mesh’la, because someone decided to skip lunch.”
“...it’s only…”
“Dinner starts in 30 minutes.”
“...ah.” You pause, “In my defense, I thought I was onto something.”
“You’ve already cured the enhanced aging.” Ordo replies as he prods you to your feet with gentle touches.
“Well…yes. But! I could cure it better!” You say.
Ordo circles you and tugs your lab coat off, before he tosses it over your desk, “You’re not curing anything until you eat. Come on.”
“But…but…Ordo!”
“Don’t you ‘but Ordo’ me. You, little miss, passed out three weeks ago because you forgot to eat four meals in a row.” Ordo says, “Which means you now have a babysitter, in the form of me.”
“...I don’t remember that.”
“Yeah. Because you were unconscious.” He lightly pushes you out of the lab, and you turn so you’re walking backwards, and his hands land on your shoulders, “Mesh’la-”
“Does this mean that we’re going on a dinner date?” You ask, with a bright grin.
Ordo laughs, “You are relentless about going on a date with me, aren’t you?”
You grin at him, unrepentantly.
He leans in, “If it’ll get you to eat, Mesh’la, then yes. We can call this a date. Though, neither of our families will approve.”
“I don’t care about what my family thinks. And your family likes me well enough.” You counter, “And, I love you, so-”
Ordo averts his gaze, “How you can say that so easily-”
“Because it’s true!”
“I believe you.” Ordo looks at you again, and smiles softly before he kisses your forehead, “I…” He pauses, “I care about you too.”
You grin at him, and pop up on your toes to kiss his jaw, “So. Dinner? I have nice pasta in my suite that I can make while we watch a movie?”
Ordo presses his hands against your cheeks and squishes them, “You’re impossible. You’re lucky you’re cute.”
You beam at him.
“Yes, fine. But I want some of that cheesy bread you made last week, if I have to eat pasta.”
“Deal!”

i listened to the hamilton soundtrack and ended up with a visceral reaction to "it's quiet uptown" and this is the result. may or may not be turned into a full fic at some point.
-
Joel tells Ellie the truth about what happened in Salt Lake City and she pushes him away, angry, unable to process it, so she puts as much distance between them as possible. Joel is at a loss of what to do, unable to think, work, anything, and he just ends up walking around Jackson for hours. Tommy is worried, watching him become tired and losing the glow he had gained since coming back, but there is nothing he can do to help. He can't sit around in a house that is full of Ellie, a stray sweatshirt over the back of his couch, elastics scattered over every surface, her books on the coffee table; his heart crumbles whenever he looks around and sees the evidence of what he has lost.
So he walks, quietly at first, but then he starts talking to himself to fill the silence following him around, a silence Ellie used to fill. It's whatever is on his mind, musing about taking up wood working, playing the guitar again, but eventually he ends up talking to Ellie, to Sarah, trying to process.
Days pass like this, Joel walking around Jackson until his knees ache too much to keep going, whittling away in his bedroom once his legs give out, falling asleep in a quiet, empty house, and without Ellie's light, he feels himself slowly wither away and cannot bring himself to care.
It's an accident the first time it happens, they are going in the same direction at the same time, and moving away would mean acknowledging each other, something Ellie refuses to do, so they walk. They are side by side with several feet of space between them for two very, very awkward minutes before they part, and Joel thinks about those two minutes for the rest of the day; hearing her breathe, live next to him sparks a naive hope in his chest.
A few days later, it happens again, a handful of minutes spent walking in the same direction, both pretending the other isn't there (for her, he does it for her, if she let him he would turn toward her and never look away).
Then it happens again. And again. And again. It stops being an accident, and no matter how hard he tries, Joel can't help but watch the sprout of hope grow and grow.
Ellie joins him for a few minutes each day, just walking with him before turning around a corner to go to whatever he goal is that day, not that Joel would know. After a week of five minute walks each day, she eventually opens her mouth, says something stupid, small talk, commenting on the weather like you would with a neighbour, a stranger.
Joel almost trips and falls flat on his face because Ellie is talking to him and the sound of her voice smooths out some of the lines etched into his skin. So he talks to her about the weather, soaking in her presence, and they keep walking for a little while, five minutes, ten. When they part, Ellie looks at him and Joel keeps his gaze on path, her face blurry in his periphery. She is not fully smiling just yet, and quietly says see you tomorrow.
Small talk turns into her telling him about her day, minutes adding up more and more with each passing day, and Joel carefully tells her about the trinkets and guitars he is carving, simple, easy topics that don't hurt. Joel breathes easier during those conversations, sleeps better, eats more again, and no longer feels like a giant part of him is missing.
After about two weeks, she reaches out a hand to stop him when she is about to leave, fingers brushing against his arm, and Joel immediately freezes, not daring to move or breathe. Ellie hesitates before gently squeezing his shoulder and leaving with a see you tomorrow, Joel and this time she is smiling.
Their walks become longer, and at some point, Ellie gives him an almost worried look, their eyes still avoiding each other in an unspoken agreement, and they sit down. She noticed his knee is hurting despite Joel attempting to push through it, his walking pattern changing enough for her to pick up on it, and they sit with a foot of space between them on a bench and just watch people move by. Joel puts his hand in the space between them, not even on purpose, his body just reaching out to her on reflex, and Ellie's hand inches closer to his.
She doesn't look at him, pinkies brushing when she pushes her hand closer, and they haven't talked today, not really, and Joel swallows the disappointment, longing to hear her voice but refusing to push, scared to break the fragile trust blooming between them. Joel looks at her while she looks at the sky and hears her say I never hated you. I want to try, I think, to forgive you for what you did.
Her hand is resting on his and she squeezes it before standing up, leaving him with tears threatening to spill over, and when she looks back at him she is smiling, a sad smile but a smile, tears running down his cheeks the next time he blinks, almost fearing that she will disappear. Joel watches her leave with the sun shining in his chest and a whispered thank you to the universe for, somehow, granting him a third chance after everything he has done.
The next afternoon, just when Joel is about to leave for his daily walk with Ellie, someone knocks on his door and he almost passes out because she is waiting for him, looking mildly uncomfortable, eyes everywhere but on him, and she mumbles I thought we could go to the stables today. Joel says yes because he would follow her to the end of the world and back, the stables are nothing compared to that,
They take care of Shimmer together, talking. The awkwardness gradually bleeds away, slowly, and by the end, Ellie stands so close her side is almost completely pressed against his, the warmth radiating from her expelling the ice weighing down his bones.
Joel looks at her, and for the first time, she looks back.
I thought, Joel says, and he is scared, so fucking scared, because this is Ellie and he needs her, I thought I could teach you how to play the guitar. I made one for you, he doesn't say, not yet, and Ellie takes his hand, says I would like that, and that night Joel cries because he knows she is finally coming back to him.
They sit on the porch that next afternoon, Ellie next to him, no more space between them, and he teaches her how to hold the guitar, how to place her fingers for the different chords, and just watches her play with it and figure it out for herself. His cheeks hurting with how hard he is smiling, and when he hears her laugh his chest constricts so badly he stops breathing for a while, heart swelling with a please, let me have this, please, let me have her.
Ellie lowers the guitar toward the end, and he made that one for her, too, but he still doesn't say.
You know, she bites her lip, nervous, but she looks at him. I was so angry at you for taking my purpose away. I thought dying in that hospital would have finally made my life mean something. But I think. I understand why you did it. And honestly, this is way better than being dead. Joel wipes away his tears, nodding softly, and he knows there is nothing he could tell her she doesn't already know.
She puts the guitar down and stands up, and Joel does too, and she hugs him for the first time in months, her body still fitting against his exactly the same way, holding her just as tightly as she holds him. His heart stitches itself back together and she leaves him with a see you tomorrow and a silent thank you. The house no longer looks quite as dark when he goes to bed that night.
Joel teaches her how to play the guitar, evening after evening, and they take all the strings and loose ends Ellie cut and knot them back together, weaving the fabrics of their souls back into one, a patchwork blanket that remembers where it was ripped apart but wraps around both of them just fine. After two weeks of light returning to his chest, his house slowly morphing back into a home with new shirts left hanging over kitchen chairs and fresh sheets on her bed, Joel hands Ellie her guitar with a soft I made it for you, finally no longer fearing the confession might drive her away.
Ellie just smiles, leaning against him with her head resting above his heart, his arm settling around her shoulders, and says I know.

Unit 4 Blog Post
(I posted this on Monday but I am editing it now to cite the images as I forgot to do that when I originally posted)
I grew up in the suburbs, Niagara Falls. As I’ve mentioned in earlier blogs, my time in nature mainly came from our yearly cottage trips. The calm of the forest and the beauty of the sunset over the lake gave me a rare, peaceful escape, something I deeply appreciate because it contrasts so much with my everyday life.
I have an 8-year-old sister, and last September, her best friend and our family friend, Jordy, passed away from cancer at just six years old. It was devastating to hear the news. I was at school when my mom called to tell me. Jordy’s mom, Lindsay, often gets signs that Jordy is still with us, and one of those signs is the pink sky at sunset. Now, whenever we see a pink sunset, we believe it’s Jordy’s presence. This year, when I went up to the cottage, the stillness of the trees and the sunsets over the lake took on a new, deeper meaning for me. This gift of beauty is now a gift from Jordy.
Figure 1. At the cottage this year with a pink sunset (Abbruscato, 2024).
“In some instances, art can be used in innovative ways to beautify park grounds” (Knudson, L.B.T.T.C.D. M., et al., 2018, p. 227). Another way we feel Jordy’s presence is in our neighborhood park. Recently, the park got the very first pink park bench in Niagara Falls, which was unveiled on what would have been Jordy’s first birthday after her passing. While this bench may not seem like traditional art, to me, art is anything that expresses emotion and is appreciated for its beauty or the feelings it evokes. This pink bench captures all of that. It is an innovative way to beautify our neighbourhood park. When I see it, I feel Jordy’s presence with us.
Apart from the visual arts, music has always been a big part of my life. I have been in many musicals, and growing up I was indeed a theater kid. I was in my elementary school and highschool productions of Aladdin, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and more. While I no longer participate in musicals, I still deeply admire them. Right now, I’m especially fixated on Hamilton, which I saw with my mom last summer in Toronto. I don’t just love musicals, but any songs. Music, like nature and visual art, is another way I interpret beauty. It has the power to stir emotions, connect people, and create lasting memories. After relistening to the Hamilton soundtrack about 30 times now, I think I can finally start to grasp What Lin Manuel Miranda was trying to get across while writing the musical. Music, for me, is another form of the “gift of beauty” that connects us to moments, just like those pink skies. Each form of art, whether a sunset, a pink bench, or a song, holds a special place in how I interpret the world and find meaning in the beauty around me.

Quiz Meme thing for people over 50 - via @gilajames
1. Name one body part that doesn't hurt: my elbow (who gets that reference? but really mine doesn't hurt. at least not today.)
2. Were you able to answer #1 because you have taken ibuprofen recently? Nope, I haven't been able to take ibuprofen at all for a few years now because I'm prone to ulcers. (I also haven't taken any tylenol/paracetamol, because it straight up doesn't work for me for pain relief. It lowers fevers, but that's it.)
3. Name one activity you are greatly relieved you don't do anymore because fuck that shit: change diapers and otherwise deal with any (literal) shit that isn't my own
4. Have you gotten at least eight hours of sleep in the past five days. (Not each night, just total.) Oh yeah, I average about 6.5 hours a night and on the weekends sometimes it stretches to seven!
5. Name one song that is NOT forty years old, what the fuck. The 1980s were, like, twenty years ago. Fuck you, the 80s were like, five years ago at most lol. That said: The Hamilton soundtrack, and also "Panic" by David Ford. Those are only like 10-15 years old.
6. Do you remember the last time you got carded (not counting 'we have to card everyone' places.) If we're not counting "card everyone" places, then I have never been carded. When I bought booze legally for the first time on my 21st birthday, they did not card me. Apparently I radiate an aura of "yeah she's old enough."
7. Name one musician that you keep hearing their name but have no clue what their music is. My Chemical Romance, I guess (I have a general idea what the music is but I don't know that I've actually heard it. I could be wrong about that I suppose but I definitely didn't know it.) I'm not really a music person, this is a lot of music questions for me.
8. Have the celebrities you loved as a kid started dying of old age? A few but not too many yet.
9. Have the celebrities you loved as a teenager started dying of old age? Same.
10. When did you start listening to the Oldies station? Another music question? I mean, I listened to the oldies station when I was in frickin college because I don't care about music and that was the station my boyfriend at the time liked. I really only listen to music in the car, and after I dumped that guy I switched to listening almost exclusively to tapes, CDs, and music downloaded to an iPod/phone.
11. Have you told a younger co-worker any form of the phrase "wait until you're my age/older/hit your 40s, then you'll..." Not really, though I've done the "wait until you have kids who are [age] thing to younger co-workers, and commiserated with co-workers of similar age about all the shit that hit us after 40.
12. Do you seek out older co-workers so you can quote something at them that they will get? Nope, because I am a work-from-home introvert. :D
13. Would you rather just stay home? At least 85% of the time, YES.
14. Have you reached the point that for birthdays, other gift-getting events, you say "I just don't need more stuff"? No, because I love getting gifts. When I was young, my mom told me she didn't care what was under the Christmas tree for her, she just loved opening presents. Seriously, one year when I was like 14 I got her a 6-pack of socks and wrapped each pair individually and she LOVED it. I thought she was crazy then, but I get it now. Anyway the only people who get me actual gifts these days are the Things and I'm not going to discourage them because they're so fun.
15. Do you often find yourself saying "I remember when" and you describe something so completely foreign to Life Today that you wonder if you made it up? All the FUCKIGN TIME
16. Did you look at this list at the beginning and hope it was a short quiz because you don't have time for those 50 item lists? Lol no because this counts as social interaction for me these days.
My fellow "old" tumblrs, join in the fun! (Or don't, I'm not the boss of you.)

I often get asked if I always see names or songs as symmetrical and made of dots and the answer is no. In fact, I nothing I hear ever looks exactly like my art. Dotting is just my art style, and I use it as a medium to showcase the colours.
I have associative synesthesia so I actually don't even "see" anything for words or names; it's just kind of a vibe. I often have to mess around with colours on my tablet to make sure I can get a name to look right before I start painting it.
Music is a little different because I do get a sense of pattern/shape, but it's still rarely mandala-esque. The goal with my music pieces is to translate what I see in my head into my art style.
It's essentially a stylized portrait. I'm not creating a hyperrealistic depiction of what's happening inside my head because that was never my intention. I just really like dots, so I use them to give you a loose idea of what I see!
This piece is based on "Helpless" from the Hamilton soundtrack!

Hi! I was thinking Prompt 31 for Calliope/Gault 💕
Hi! Thank you SO much for your patience in waiting for this prompt fill!! 😅 It turned out longer than I thought it would—turns out I had more to say about this ship than I expected. I really hope you like it, and thank you so much for such an interesting pairing!!
*lovingly tosses another femslash rarepair into the pile*
Calliope was still humming as she and Gault walked down the rain-slick street away from the school, Calliope holding an umbrella over the two of them.
“It’s catchy, isn’t it?” Gault said, sounding amused. “Isaac’s dreams have been full of the soundtrack for weeks.”
“I imagine it would be inescapable in the dreams of humans,” said Calliope.
“The Addams Family is hardly the worst of it.” Gault shuddered. “Not a single entity in the Dreaming can stand Hamilton anymore.”
Gault and Calliope had just finished watching a performance at a high school in the United States. They’d worked together to inspire a teenager: a senior who had yearned to audition every year of his high school career but had never worked up the courage until it was his last chance. Gault would take Calliope with her into Isaac’s dreams, and there the two of them would weave dreamscapes imbued with Calliope’s magic and crafted by the touch of Gault’s skillful hands.
This and numerous other collaborations had come about because of a chance encounter at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Valparaíso. Calliope had been looking over who stood near her in the sea of audience members, and her gaze caught on a woman wearing a peacock blue halter top. It could have been a trick of the lights in the amphitheatre but…Calliope could have sworn the woman’s skin glowed.
Calliope had never been queen of the Dreaming, not in the way Oneiros had offered to her. She had her own purview, she’d told him, her own area of expertise. She did not crave another. She had no desire for crowns or titles. But she had still spent considerable time there, and she certainly knew how one of the Dreaming’s residents moved, spoke, held their chin.
So, when the festival concluded, she’d fallen into step beside the woman as the massive crowd funnelled toward the exits. The commotion would hide any indiscreet phrasing. She dipped her head close to the woman’s ear. “You are from the Dreaming, aren’t you?”
The woman’s head twisted sharply in Calliope’s direction, her dark eyes wary. “Who are you?” Immediately Calliope had been struck by the resonance of her voice. From just those three words, she’d wanted to hear more.
“Forgive me, I did not mean to startle you. I am Calliope. One of the Greek Muses.”
The suspicion slid from the woman’s shoulders. “Calliope. Oh, they remember you fondly in the Dreaming,” she said, teeth flashing in a smile. “I didn’t recognise you. I wasn’t created until after your…involvement, with Dream. I’m younger than many of the other Major Arcana.”
Impressed, Calliope said, “You’re one of the Major Arcana?” It was not a title to be bestowed frivolously. The woman seemed to recognise the respect in Calliope’s voice, and her smile grew wider.
“Yes. My name is Gault.” And for a moment, Calliope caught the glimmer of iridescent wings raised behind Gault’s back.
“Gault,” Calliope said, trying out the new name on her tongue. “It is lovely to meet you.”
That had been the beginning of their friendship. Initially, they’d each been curious about how their work could complement the other’s. But after some weeks, they no longer needed a collaboration as an excuse to spend time in each other’s company. They shared meals and stories, discussions and analyses, walks and even a flight or two—Gault with her gleaming butterfly wings, Calliope in the form of a sparrow. Gault had rapidly become very, very dear to Calliope.
“Where do you think you’ll go next?” Gault asked Calliope now. She knew Calliope never stayed too long in one place these days.
“Somewhere with warmer temperatures,” Calliope answered at once, and Gault laughed, bumping Calliope’s shoulder playfully with her own.
“Your poor Mediterranean sensibilities.”
“Gault,” Calliope began firmly, “your body is made entirely of dreamstuff. You have not the slightest idea what it is like to be predisposed toward one climate or another.”
Gault laughed again, head tilting back, and Calliope found her gaze drawn to the apples of her cheeks, the exquisite roundness of her features. “Forgive me, goddess.”
They fell into a companionable silence as the rain pattered down onto Calliope’s umbrella. They were in their own little bubble underneath its shield. Without conversation to divert her, Calliope’s thoughts turned back to the musical. But not the soundtrack, this time. No, what captured Calliope now were thoughts of Gault and Isaac.
By now, Calliope had a reasonably good grasp on the kinds of dreamers that Gault gravitated towards. Isaac, she thought with a squeeze of fondness, was a typical case: a young human who dreamt of being other than what he had always been. He was a reserved, unassuming student, without the resources for voice or dancing training many of his theatre-inclined peers had. He had the drive, quiet but burning within his chest. All he needed was one final push of encouragement to bring himself to audition. And Gault was there to offer it. Gault’s kindness, steadfastness, passion for her dreamers’ futures and their own ability to control those futures: it was all so brilliantly on display as Calliope worked at her side.
Calliope had always seen people’s creations as facets of their own selves, was drawn to people according to the work of their hands and hearts. And Gault created beautiful, powerful things for the dreamers she held so dear.
The two of them were now walking down a street lined with shops. Gault paused to examine the front window of one, an arrangement of art prints, maps, journals, the like. The storefront was well lit, and just as the first time Calliope had seen her, the light found Gault and reflected off of her, and she became utterly luminous.
And staring at Gault now, Calliope knew.
The words escaped her mouth in a low murmur, almost lost in the rain. “I love you.”
Gault half-turned toward Calliope, her attention still mostly on the display window. “Did you say something, Calliope?”
Calliope’s pulse rushed in her ears. She could take it back. It wasn’t too late to shy away.
But it was not in her nature to not speak her mind. In all her years, after all the ways life had bruised her, no blow had ever been able to rob her of that.
So she said again, louder this time, “I love you.”
Gault whipped around. Shock flashed across her face, and then it softened into…Calliope’s fingers tightened around the umbrella’s handle. It looked like—
It looked like—
They were already so close together under the umbrella. Gault’s eyes shone so, so brightly. Calliope read tenderness in them, read affection, read love. “Say it again.”
“I love you,” Calliope whispered. With her free hand, she reached forward and dared to rest it on Gault’s waist. A feather-light touch. If Gault breathed deeply the simple movement alone would dislodge Calliope’s hand. But she didn’t.
“Again.”
“I love you.”
It was so easy, then. For Calliope to dip her head forward, for Gault to meet her halfway. Gault’s mouth moved plush and warm against Calliope’s, and involuntarily Calliope’s fingers dimpled deeper into Gault’s waist, grounding herself. Gault might be a dream, but she still felt so vibrantly real beneath Calliope’s hand, against her lips.
The rain sang down around them.
When they drew apart, Gault was smiling again, and not even her own shimmering skin could compare to that radiance.

Friday, 11-29-24, 8am Pacific
G'mornin', everyone, this is your intrepid DJ Mr. Baggins, suiting up and showing up with Morning Coffee Music on this blackest of Fridays. While the blackest carafe of French Roast finishes its drip, let's hear from the very French Via Nova Quartet again this morning, this time in a gorgeous performance of Mozart's Quartet in B-minor, K.421.
youtube
Now that we've gotten that first sip, let's check in with our Harpsichordist, Malcolm Hamilton, for the final three Preludes and Fugues from Book 1 of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, Nos. 22, 23, and 24. But no worries, we still have Book 2 to go!
youtube
youtube
youtube
Next let's check in with our old friends Neville and The Academy for a little bit of Vaughan Williams, his "In The Fen Country: A Symphonic Impression". recorded in 1995.
youtube
Staying with Vaughan Williams, we hear pianist Ashley Wass as the soloist, with James Judd conducting the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, in Vaughan Williams Piano Concerto in C Major.
youtube
And I thought this might be a good morning to play Mahler's Symphony No. 4, which ends with the song "A Child's Vision of Heaven". Here is the Symphony No. 4, in G major. We hear a live recording, with venerable conductor Bruno Walter leading The Vienna, at his Farewell Concert in Vienna, in 1960, with Soprano Elisabeth Schwarzkopf as soloist.
Now let's hear pianist Aldo Cicconlini, in his classic recording of Liszt's 'The Years of Pilgrimage' (Les années de pèlerinage), a recording he made for Angel in 1963. Pay special attention to the third piece, a tiny Pastorale about a minute and a half long. You can almost imagine that being improvised by Jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi, on a Charlie Brown soundtrack. Delightful playing!
And I thought we'd have a little more Bach this morning, his famous Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565, in the orchestra transcription by Leopold Stokowski, from the original Fantasia Soundtrack. This included Disney's first experiments with a "stereo-like" effect of panning the sound around the theater according to what was on the screen.
youtube
And now a disc of sonatas for piano by Mendelssohn, his Piano Sonata in E Major, Op. 6, in G Minor, Op. 105, in E-flat Major, Op. 106, ending up with the Rondo Capriccioso Op. 14, all performed by pianist Frederic Chiu. I have this album and play it quite regularly...spirited playing of delightful music! (And if they throw in one of those "ultimate trip" things into the playlist, just skip over it).
That wraps up this Friday edition of Morning Coffee Music, I do hope you've enjoyed the selections this morning. This is Mr. Baggins signing off for now; I'll return at 2pm Pacific with your Afternoon Stack of Classic Wax!
Until then, be kind, babies, be kind.
Baggins out.

hey, i'm not sure if you're comfortable with people complaining about something to you so if you don't like it, just let me know!
it's just that a tweet about how hamilton is "unfortunately good" blew up and the quote tweets were pissing me off. people saying that they sincerely wish lin manuel miranda was less talented so they could "hate him for being insufferable more efficiently"? so many people saying it's unfortunate that he's talented because he's so annoying. it's exactly the point that anon made about people just looking for a reason to bash on him, and i couldn't deal with it.
i would honestly prefer it if the hate was coming from people who hated his music style and sincerely thought he wasn't talented, at least it makes sense. people saying "oh no i listen to the soundtrack a lot" but then proceeding to make fun of its creator is so much worse to me.
it's totally fine anon, i am always up for discussion, whether you want to complain about something or just simply share a fun fact from your life.
i agree with you, it literally doesn't make any sense & it's one of the reasons i'm trying to stay away from twitter, i also saw a lot of haters there. it's so funny to me that they can actually admit he's talented, but at the same time they hate his personality, because... exactly, because what? i don't understand why they find him annoying, can somebody explain, please? also, hear me out... it's actually possible to listen to someone's music & avoid watching/reading interviews if you don't like them. I KNOW, SHOCKING. but not as shocking as wasting your time talking about someone you hate so much. go touch some grass you loser.
also how pathetic it actually is that people are ashamed of listening to hamilton... like, why would i be ashamed of listening to something that makes me happy? something that i genuinely think is good? maybe we should just, idk, start enjoying things? hamilton literally occupied my entire spotify wrapped last year & i was still happy to share it with my friends, because it brought me joy, so what is the problem?
anon, i genuinely think people are just being racists. there are a lot of very problematic people out there but somehow they always get away with it because they're white. i hate the world we're living in.
#...aaaaaand another essay#idk i feel like it's my job to defend this man on the internet#does he need it? no#but just like you anon i can't stand the hate#i said this once before i'm gonna say this again#you can hate me all you want but say one bad thing about lin - be prepared for the fight#where the hell is my gun#lin manuel miranda#lmm#anon#i saved every letter you wrote me*

top 5 musicals?
oh OH I LOVE THIS ASK THANK YOU, CHAOS!!
Okay so, from lowest to highest, so far, my favorite musicals are:
5. Tick, Tick, Boom!
Especially as an artist, I absolutely LOVED this film. It's like a love letter to all artists. Of course non-artists can love and relate to this musical, but there's just something special it has for artists specifically. Plus the CINEMATOGRAPHY?? the PERFORMANCES?? ANDREW GARFIELD???? THE SONGS???? UGH. PHENOMENAL
4. Hamilton: An American Musical
This is the only musical I've ever been blessed enough to actually see LIVE! And it was literally one of the greatest experiences of my life and made my desire to see musicals live EVEN MORE PAINFUL. BECAUSE THIS WAS WHAT I WAS MISSING OUT ON!! But yeah even if it's not at the top of this list I clearly still love this musical so much. This was one of my most powerful and longest-lasting hyper-fixations ever, and also the musical that actually really got me into writing fanfiction! So on top of the amazing music (my go to hip-hop and rap songs fr LOLLL most of my rapping ability comes from singing and rapping Hamilton with my siblings and cousins), performances, themes of LEGACY and FORGIVENESS??? AUGGHHH, i am also really grateful to it for awakening the writer in me.
3. Les Miserables
I remember when I first started listening to this I was like. How is there not a single MEH song in this musical??? It was literally banger after banger after banger LIKE BRUH. I also remember when I finally finished listening to the musical, it was when my family and I lined up all night for some basketball tickets. And I finished listening to the musical when I woke up really early in the morning for my turn in waiting in line, and I was screaming at myself not to cry because I was literally surrounded by people. But anyway yeah I love this musical so much and while it's not as deeply personal as Hamilton (at least not yet), I think it definitely belongs in this spot. Listen specifically the THEMES AND MOTIFS ARE WHAT MAKE ME SO FERAL OVER THIS. BUT ESPECIALLY THE THEME OF FAITH??? BYE I CANT HANDLE IT ASJDFHJLDAD
2. Newsies
While I think Les Mis is probably a better musical in general, THIS one is very personal. This is the first broadway musical i ever listened to, the one that got me into theatre musicals for the first time. IT ALL BEGAN HERE. This was also the first pro-shot I ever watched!!! And absolutely LOVE the songs DEARLY to this very day and still jam out to them every time I hear them, plus I LOVE the story and find it to be very relevant to people my age in particular. It's just so FUN and with AN INCREDIBLE story and soundtrack and the PERFORMANCES and DANCING AUGHHH and i love it so much i cant put it into words so here have Jack flipping someone instead
1. The Phantom of the Opera
I doubt ANYONE is surprised by this being at the top LOL. But for real, this musical just HIT THE SPOT. I don't know how or why BUT I JUST FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS MUSICAL SO FAST AND HARD and I can't explain it. But just--the MUSIC the STAGING the STORY the CHARACTERS?? HELLO?? ERIK IS LITERALLY ONE OF THE MOST WELL-WRITTEN CHARACTERS I'VE EVER SEEN IN A LONG WHILE. AND CHRISTINE MY BELOVED. and OBVIOUSLY . RAOUL . HAS MY ENTIRE ENTIRE HEART THIS IDIOT BOYYYY. and and RAOULSTINE??? UGHHH. And i love all the supporting characters too like they're so FUN lol. and anyway of course the SONGS ARE JUST INCREDIBLE, WHAT ON EARTH. And of course, most importantly THE THEMES AND MOTIFS. LOVE AND LUST AND OBSESSION AND UNCONDITIONAL VS CONDITIONAL LOVE AND RECKLESS BRAVERY AND AND AND GRACE????? AND KINDNESS??? HOO MY HEART BE STILL
Send me Top Five Anythings and I'll answer!!

The Little Mermaid Live Action
I’m so freaking prepared for this movie and it’s not even funny!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve watched the trailer so many times since the full trailer was released.
The original Little Mermaid movie was and is still one of my all time favorite Disney movies. And now just seeing in come to life is amazing. I can already tell you I’m gonna be in tears probably halfway through the movie.
There are probably a million reasons why I’m so excited but I’m only going to talk about my top 3.
Halle Bailey: She such a beautiful woman and a wonderful singer. I heard her singing only a few times before, but when I really heard her voice was during the Disney World 50th Anniversary and she sang “Can You Feel Love Tonight” and she has such a beautiful singing voice. I also read this article somewhere online about Jodi Benson (the original Ariel) and her opinion about Halle playing Ariel. Jodi Benson has been very supportive of Halle as she plays Ariel and was there when Halle received backlash about her playing Ariel. So, Jodi Benson talked about how it doesn’t matter who you are, what you look, or where your from, it’s about the spirit of the character is what’s important. I 100% agree with her. Halle Bailey is going to do a wonderful job by bring one of the most iconic Disney princesses to life.
2. The Music and New Songs: Can we just take a moment and talk about Lin-Manuel Miranda?!?! As everyone should know, he wrote the Broadway musicals “In The Heights” and “Hamilton” and has also written music for other Disney movies like “Encanto” and “Moana”. Lin-Manuel is also a big Disney fan and he also named his son after Sebastian in the little mermaid. And now he gets to work with Alan Menken (the original music composer) and he was the one who inspired Lin-Manuel to compose music. He basically gets to work with his hero and that’s amazing!!!! I’ve also read somewhere that Lin-Manuel might be Chef Louis in the movie.
Ok, now the music. We all have to admit that the original soundtrack slaps!!!! They are classics and masterpieces. I can’t wait to listen to it again in the live action. I have a feeling some of the songs might be a tad different from the original, but that doesn’t bother me. The have done the same thing in all the other Disney live action movies and I love those movies.
I’m really excited to hear these new songs in the movie. As I said earlier, Lin-Manuel Miranda got up work with Alan Menken and wrote 4 new songs. Can’t wait to hear them and listen to them like a million times once the soundtrack comes out.
3. The Actors: Besides Halle Bailey as Ariel, I think they did an amazing job with the cast. I mean, you could have picked better than these actors and actresses to play these roles.
Awkwafina as Scuttle: If you didn’t know who she is, Awkwafina was in “Jumamji: The Next Level” and “Chang-Shi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”. She is a really funny actress and always makes me laugh. I think she will make a great Scuttle.
Daveed Diggs as Sebastian: I think everyone had a feeling that he would play Sebastian before the trailer even came out. He was in “Hamilton” with Lin-Manuel Miranda and also rapped a whole bunch in the musical. I read somewhere that he might rap in the movie and that makes me happy. He honestly fits the role of Sebastian perfectly.
Melissa McCarthy as Ursula: Just like Awkwafina, Melissa McCarthy also makes me laugh as well. She was in the movie “Life of the Party” and Netflix “Thunder Force”. I’m excited to see her bring out her inner diva while playing Ursula.
Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric: First of all, he is extremely cute and hot. When I first saw him I was like blushing like crazy. Also, he was in “A Dog’s Way Home” and the tv show “World On Fire”. I’m excited to see him play Prince Eric. Another thing to point out is that Prince Eric was my Disney Prince crush when I was little and that crush it starting up again.
Those are my top 3 reasons why I am excited about the Live Action Little Mermaid. I won’t be able to wait any longer as it approaches theaters.
