love to see post after post about how obvious it is that trans women are being held to an impossible double standard on this site and how obviously related to broader transmisogyny that is directly after being treated like shit and abandoned (and then betrayed in a vile fucking way!) by someone who I thought would be a lifelong friend justified by a conflict they started that existed primarily in their own head in sheer projection and I was blamed for without even knowing what was happening, whose idea of conflict "resolution" was jumping directly to verbal abuse and sanctioning the friendship instead of communicating at literally any point that it mattered and utterly refused to give me any benefit of the doubt for yknow. having human reactions to what was practically emotional abuse and not being a Perfect Angel, and that just serving as further justification to start unpersoning me, when it was so clear nobody else in their life was being treated in such a black and white way. it's so fucking galling man

many people can talk Real Big about how trans women getting banned is bad but will immediately find self justified reasons to participate in whisper networks, or even start them themselves, or, in this case, reach out to someone who did to buddy up and find that justification to chase a sense of moral purity, because they can't be wrong, so this has to be the exception and the transfem in question is Evil Actually. almost every single trans woman I know has a or several stories like this, and it's why seeing these cauterizations from a social network stings and terrifies.

Having people not Get how your disability, y’know, disables you is very frustrasting.

I’m speaking from an autistic and mentally ill context, but I think this can apply to a lot of conditions. People may be willing to give up or change a few things—you can wear headphones, get a little extra time on things—but when your disability means you need help with something all the time, or impacts your hygiene, or your communication, or your ability to go to or partake in events/things, or shapes every aspect of your identity and being… suddenly they’re not “okay with it” anymore.

But people who do this will rarely say it. And if you confront them directly, they may even try to make themselves the victim—using the few things they do against you. The minute things they choose to give up.

As if you can “turn off” your disability when it’s not “fun and quirky”. As if you had any choice in becoming/being disabled. As if your limitations don’t frustrate you every day. As if there aren’t things you want to do that you’ll never be able to. As if your disability doesn’t fucking disable you.

Just had a friend show me a conversation in a fan discord about Suvi as a Black American woman in the context of the fallout from the election. And honestly? Yeah. The blueprint is simple: Black women are expected to put their own priorities and emotions on hold to show up for everyone else's battles and hold endless space for everyone's feelings while simultaneously weathering attacks on our character (oh she's so angry/aggressive/violent/rude) and authority (she's a woke hire/affirmative action quota/nepobaby) without complaint. We're expected to save the day under nigh-impossible circumstance, and with fewer resources and support that is AT BEST, conditional.

So yeah, relistening to Suvi's speech in The Witness hurts now. Because that's exactly the feeling I'm wrestling with, and what I see mirrored in the Black women around me. We are exhausted and angry and sad. Those voter percentages are a betrayal of "we" that was promised by other marginalized groups when speaking of the interconnectedness of our liberation. And the unexamined expectation that we immediately rise from the depths of our despair to prepare for the next fight is a cruelty. Suvi isn't real, but if this helps lend empathy toward actual Black women in the world, then I'm glad.
