it is important to me that you understand that:
junko has no luck (and when she does, it's bad luck)
nagito has fantastic luck, but it always comes at a cost - for every moment of good luck, there is also a moment of bad luck; the higher the good luck he wants, the greater the sacrifice of bad luck he needs first (see case 5)
izuru has luck with no cost, which makes his luck better than nagito's; he's the inverse of junko, but his luck is downloaded, fake, contrived (like the rest of his talent is)
this must be combined with:
junko can calculate and anticipate anything provided she has access to the right dataset (the better she knows someone/something, the better she can manipulate them/it - this extends to talent as well; the more data she has on how someone's talent functions, the better she can imitate it, which is why she can't imitate ryota's animation as completely in the way that she wants (different talents have different rates in terms of how much she needs to analyze them, though))
nagito can deduce but he cannot mimic; he dabbles in manipulation, but he is much more of a servant to someone else's goals, which means his analysis is always in service to someone else (kyoko is similar but not quite the same; kyoko can get to the point of deducing fast enough to prevent things, which is a lot more similar to junko's analysis, just used in a different way; kyoko's more straight forward than junko is, which is why deduce and not analyze)
izuru's analysis functions the same as junko's does, except that he doesn't need to analyze someone else's talent to mimic it; he has had talent downloaded straight into him like neo in the matrix; if he wants more talents than the ones he already has, he's gonna need them downloaded again, probably
as a result:
junko's weakness is luck and incomplete data sets; an incomplete (or wrong) data set leads to a miscalculation, and when something relies on luck and cannot be precalculated or predicted, then junko falls. she relies hard on her analysis, which gives her a blind spot. (junko, however, is aware of this. that's why she has both nagito and izuru on deck; in the hope calculation that their luck, correctly used, will allow her to predict things that happen by chance as well)
nagito's weakness is his reliance on his luck. he believes in his luck. his luck will take care of him. he can't control how it works, and he can't control how the bad luck will happen or who it will happen to, but he doesn't need to analyze something for his luck to get him out of it (and the smaller the chance that something will happen, the more likely it will happen to him; his luck works on an inverse to everyone else's, basically, so what's the point of predicting things on what is most likely to happen when, for him, it will probably be the other way around)
izuru could cover his incomplete data sets with his luck, but tends to rely so completely on his luck to cover his ass that he stops analyzing and leaves himself open there - he should be the strongest of the two, but really tends to leave him with more weaknesses until he figures out how to use the two in conjunction; something junko has figured out but cannot do because her luck is not her own

I think you could measure life in green beans if you wanted to. measure a child’s changing mind with their like or dislike of the long, thin green legumes, measure the growth of their hand along the length of a pod. how many of the dry, shelled beans can I hold today? how many could I hold at age seven, their bushes up to my sternum rather than my thigh now? oh, and that’s another way to measure life on their rough stalks, in height against the poles or cornstalks twined around with vaguely heart-shaped leaves.
obviously there’s also the measurement of the seasons in stages of harvest and canning time, eating and planting, and the growing season fraught with bugs to pick off and diseases to keep watch for, but also full of nourishing rain and warming, vibrant sunlight to shade your eyes from. the clink of jars boiling in the canning bath mirrors the clink of dry beans pouring into jars for saving, both of which will be twisted open not too far in the future as another year rolls by and another generation of green beans grows along with us.

The Winchester brothers? Oh I think you mean Sam Leahy and Dean Singer <3 I think their mom is Mary Campbell-Winchester so maybe that's where you got confused <3
#listen I just think symbolically rejecting the family legacy on the family legacy show where the legacy is perpetuating pain and horror#is interesting#I'm just musing. i think sam would actually do leahy-winchester or winchester-leahy#mr dad did the best he could. he reconciles to him and he's proud of the men of letters thing#dean i think. clean break.#when cas says maybe i should get a surname and dean immediately suggests singer and confesses sometimes he pretended his name was singer#as a kid. just to himself.#and sam pops up and is like. it could be. if you wanted. just saying. i think it'd mean a lot to the old man.#and dean dismisses it but sam catches him writing in his journal:#mr and mr dean singer. mr and mr cas singer. mr dean (cas) singer.#dean mary singer#mrs dean singer ? (that one's crossed out Dean's not ready to crack yet)#and dean never makes an announcement or anything he just starts introducing himself as dean singer and cas as castiel singer#mary i think it's important to her to keep Winchester bc for her Winchester was an escape from HER family legacy of pain and suffering#I think for a while after resurrection she tried saying to other hunters that she's mary Campbell to cash in on the family name#because whenever she said Winchester she was met with suspicion from John alienating himself lmao#or people commenting positively on sam and dean and she was trying to avoid being reminded of and associated with them#but that felt like a betrayal of what her younger self had decided AND a betrayal of John. whom she loved.#even if she finds out that love was engineered and manufactured. it's still something she felt. it's still something#she poured so much of her young life into#and it represents the hope that her sam and dean might be able to work through things#so eventually she says with defiant pride I am Mary Campbell-Winchester. no matter what reaction she might get from other people.

I actually like the last chapter. I think the ideas are very good. I have my qualms on how some things were managed, as I always do, but I think shonen authors get tangled in the expectations of a shonen to the point it jeopardises their writing, often even when they're not lacking in skills
#I think the nothingness‚ the absence‚ the moving on despite everything‚... is a good if heartbreaking idea#and we do see snippets of it throughout the entire manga‚ yet I think it is mostly lacking in execution#I like the quiet ways in which we see the characters mourn. How Megumi laughs at the letter‚#how Shoko muses about how Satoru should have let her take care of Geto's body‚ the faint smile when Megumi agrees‚#how Shoko quits smoking again‚ Yuuji giving this person hope and a second chance‚ making a reference to him not being executed‚#and giving Sukuna too a chance for him to take one day a different path#All those are very good ideas and all those are very moving quiet ways of grieving. But. It feels in general so lacking#There's so much of everything else in contrast‚ even things that have way less importance narratively than this most of the time‚#that it feels lacking. Especially with how one has to dig to find these things. There's so much that could have been done with the same idea#And done so much better. But the idea is good. The absences are good. The quiet presences are good. The nothingness is good if bitter and sad#But it could have been written better#I also think this ending with Yuuji apparently knowing about Sukuna‚ his lies‚ his little hint of softness‚ the potential second path‚...#makes even more believable why he'd try at all to offer him a second chance. And I love that Yuuji knows him and I love that he still...#leaves the door open for that second chance to occur at some point. Trusting that Sukuna would walk that other path next time#And I love that without openly acknowledging Gojo he demonstrates that he hasn't forgotten him in his acting#How he gives that guy a second chance‚ how he jokes about him not getting executed‚ how he wants to make sure people‚ 'problem children'‚#don't get left behind. He doesn't mimick Gojo in his power but in this flippant but caring aspect and thus he's not forgotten#I do like this. It's heartbreaking. Gojo's desire to be forgotten is bittersweet as it's in a way a desire for... normalcy and humanity#To be surpassed. It goes well with how Gege says Gojo can do anything and thus why he does nothing‚ not even hobbies‚#to leave something for the future generations and not being another wall in their achievements#Gojo's desire to be forgotten is in line with the constancy of his writing when it comes to being drunk on his status#and yet resentful of his loneliness. It's a mix of being left behind and not being left behind#For being left behind and forgotten would mean he is more like the rest. Just another step forwards#And he'd have done what he wanted to achieve. Sorcerers can't stop a long while to grieve but Yuuji takes his words and actions#into consideration and steps forwards. Does the same. Fulfills Gojo's expectations. Walks towards the future. And that's the legacy Gojo#wanted and not going down in history as a legend or the strongest. He was just a teacher. Like Yaga was. He was not even the principal#Just a teacher. His role‚ the role he chose for himself‚ has been fulfilled. Now all this could have done way better#Something of Yuta and Megumi given their dynamics with Gojo would have been good. But I guess Gojo's 'at least one' works well#with Yuuji being the one doing the work. Yuuji was also ontologically alienated since birth and still he too remained cheerful and flippant#despite being so lonely so I guess the final parallel is intentional. But it could have been managed better still. The idea is good though

Why can't you go home?
Tumblr media
You enjoy running too much
It's thrilling, I'll give you that. But eventually you'll get tired. Eventually you'll slow to a halt and realise nothing around you looks familiar. You'll be lost with no hope of ever returning home again. Turn around now, it's not too late. You can go out running again whenever you like.

Forgive me Peter, my lost fearless leader In closets like cedar, preserved from when we were just kids Is it something I did?
This sounds like a person she'd written about reverently, capturing the memories from their youth and put away for safekeeping, too delicate to be out year-round and exposed to the elements that cause wear and tear.
(I know people have opinions on who the songs are about and everything, I'm just offering an interpretation.)
Putting under a cut for those who don't care for muse talk which I've generally tried to avoid on main lately for reasons
That could obviously be applied to any number of muses we know about, but it to me, put this way, it strikes me that that sounds like how Joe figured in her music over the years.
Joe entered her discography as an honourable man, the one who was high above the whole scene, who stood by her and liked her for her, her port in the storm and the bright spot in a very dark time in her life. And those memories are now recorded for all time in her music. Their coming of age has come and gone and their youth is preserved forever in albums like reputation and Lover.
But, just like that wool sweater you put away after winter or the wedding dress you can't part with, those memories had to be delicately cared for, put away in the cedar closet to prevent moths from chewing through and the fabric from disintegrating. Or, in other words, what's saved in the music are moments of time, the dreams spun under a set of circumstances that couldn't last yearlong.
And what also couldn't brave the elements was the painting she created of their relationship. The man who was her guiding light in a storm withered away to one who resented her and lost his way in their relationship. She once looked to him to help orient herself and their life together, but somewhere along the way their ships found different paths. Perhaps as though someone who once stood by their convictions as a guiding force somehow retreated into themselves and their demons.
The "is it something I did?" always kind of gets me, because it's the "what if/what happened?" questioning of herself that's found in so many other songs. (Namely to me, How Did It End?) What is she wondering? Is it something she did that caused him to lose his way? Is it something she did that made him never meet her where she was? Was there something she could have done to hold on longer, or make the candle burn brighter? There's so much said in so little and you can feel the sorrow seep through even in just a few lines.
I'm fully aware that the song can be interpreted in so many other ways about other muses so I'm not saying I'm right by any means. (For instance, I know it's also interpreted to be about a long-lost love which applies to... someone else. Which is fair!) It's just how the song struck me! And now I've said my piece and am ready to slink back into a muse-free zone lol.
