i wrote this mini rant for my priv insta/my friends but god this makes me insane
THESE PANELS HIT SO MUCH HARDER ESPECIALLY KNOWING SANJI'S LIFESTORY NOW 😭😭😭
all he knew in his life back then was how much of a "failure" he was and that his life was practically worthless. everyone he knew and love makes sacrifices for him and he never knows why (or he does, it's just hard for sanji to accept) because he doesnt value himself. but he values others So Much and believes he can repay with his life. growing up he did nothing that's worth his family's- his father's "love" and he only had his mother's kindness who later passed. so the fact that zeff, who raided the ship sanji was on, gave up his own leg and all the leftover food for sanji, who he barely even met, would go this far for a "failure" is beyond his comprehension
AND. luffy later yells at sanji "THATS NOT WHAT HE SAVED YOU FOR" 😭😭😭 THEY JUST MET TOO BUT MY GODDD LUFFY CAN VERY EASILY EMPATHIZE. PLUS HE SAYSBTHIS WHILE THINKING ABOUT THE TIME SHANKS SAVED HIM. LUFFY HIMSELF DEEPLY UNDERSTANDS WHY ZEFF WOULD SAVE SANJI. THEY SAVED THEIR LIVES SO THEY CAN /LIVE/. NOT TO REPAY BY DYING BECAUSE THATS NOT REPAYING ANYTHING. THATS JUST *WASTING* THE SACRIFICE THAT WAS MADE.
edit: ONE MORE THING. the way sanji had important figures of his life starve themselves for him... and both figures value food Greatly...

dragon x crocodile and trans crocodile make me go insane but i like a very particular, and admittedly insane, flavor of it where you have
trans man crocodile x genderfluid (mostly masc) dragon
both afab
and neither can tell which of them conceived their son. like, they full on forgot what happened in those 9 months- at the end crocodile was like, 'huh i feel like there's smth missing- ah thats my hand nvm'
and dragon just woke up one day with a kid in his arms and was like, 'child acquired? regular tuesday 👍- oh wait this one's mine- oh" and then handed him off to garp because he latched on so quick he would've jumped into the ocean head first if luffy ever insinuated wanting that, rev army be damned

The jester, the clown and the five reasons why luffy should NOT rule a kingdom
Trafalgar Law is a jester.
Not really, of course. He's a doctor, a prince, and most recently, a spy. It's not like Dressrosa is short-staffed or anything, he's just bored and the mission should be easy; enter the royal palace of Goa, gather intelligence on the court, leave, and then use that intel to find out if they're a kingdom worth allying with.
Of course, Cora-san would be reluctant to send him on such a mission, but with Doffy's permission and encouragement, there was little that Law's adoptive father, and Dressrosa's spymaster, could do about the matter, other than choosing Law's companion for the mission.
The plan was easy enough to follow; with the recent coronation of the new king, the Choosing Day would soon take place, where the new king would choose the new members of his royal court based on extensive trials and competitions. All Law had to do was apply for the position of royal advisor, approach the king and members of the court, find out how Goa worked and get to know the people of the kingdom. Meanwhile, his companion would apply for the position of court jester and use the seemingly silly position to gain intel in places Law could not go so easily, such as among the servants and attendants. Or that's how it would happen, if hes fucking chaperone wasn't an actual jester Buggy, the Star Clown, who was somehow a jester and a spy at the same time, screws up the entire mission by accidentally switching their tests, and so Law finds himself having to somehow become Goa's court jester in the name of the mission. All this while the actual jester now has to somehow get close to the king and gain his trust enough to become the royal advisor. It is much to Law's surprise that not only does the foolish king find him funny enough to have him as a jester, but that Buggy somehow earns the king's trust. And for some reason unknown to the gods, said foolish king, Luffy, seems to like Law for more than just morbid jokes.
They were, to say the least, fucked.

I love Live Action Luffy so much. Iñaki is the reason I'm a One Piece fan today. I love the way he plays Luffy, the way he interacts with his crew, his mannerisms and his curiosity when he explores more of the East Blue.
Like when he sees Morgan's Axe Hand just his reaction was so cute. I love how he bonds with his crewmates. He is so cute. The way he worries about them too. Like the stuff with Zoro felt real to me. Luffy was so stressed in that situation 🥺
I love the scene with Nami fixing his hat, him telling Usopp he knew his dad, the whole Baratie Kitchen scene (I'm weak for that one).
I love how Iñaki brings out that ADHD/Autisic side Luffy has hints of in the Anime.
I just wanted to share my appreciation for him. He is my Luffy and I can't wait to see more of him.

Something that makes me giggle all the time is the fact that my name begins with an LU like Luffy’s and I usually go by Lu so when one piece fanfiction writers write a character like Ace, Sabo or the StrawHat crew referring to Luffy as “Lu,” I feel like they are referring to me and my delulu brain gives me that dopamine and serotonin boost!
Anyway!
Long story short Luffy is me and I am him. We are one ☺️

I came up with maybe not a theory but more of just an observation that the east blue 5 seem to parallel the 5 love languages and it's kinda reframed all of their actions and behaviours towards each other so much for me on my watchthrough. Got brainworms from that one oda interview where he said zoro doesn't like verbally expressing gratitude and prefers to show appreciation through actions and it got me thinking
The 5 languages:
Physical touch - Luffy
Acts of service - Zoro
Quality time - Usopp
Receiving / giving gifts - Nami
Words of affirmation - Sanji
Funnily enough in OPLA we definitely see a lot of physical touch Luffy. He's always playfully punching or hugging crewmates, despite having known the crew for such a short time he's just instantly clingy and physically present around them in east blue.
Zoro is very much an actions person. He's a little emotionally constipated and doesn't verbalise his feelings very much, in fact that seems like the last thing he wants to do, but he will always be looking out for any member of the crew silently, and is almost always the first to spring into action when it's called for. He shows he cares through acts of service and being there for his captain and crew.
Usopps language being quality time is shown pretty well in syrup village with his relationship with Kaya. Kaya is a girl who has everything she could wish for financially, but ussop provides her with a much needed friend, someone to support her and just physically be present and talk to her. He risks so much just to make her smile because being there for his friends is such a crucial and important thing for him.
Nami's love language being giving/recieving gifts means so much to me because it is so often seen as the most shallow of the love languages and I have seen so many poor analysis and digs at Nami's character, reducing her to just being greedy and money hungry. Did they watch Arlong park with their eyes closed??? For Nami, gold or money is a means for her to provide for the people she cares about, to ensure their financial stability and freedom and to keep her crewmates fed and afloat. She spent so long scorned and alone and (believed she was) hated because she created this money hungry persona to save her village and to best Arlong. Every piece of gold she bled to get was meant for that end goal. Nami deserves the financial freedom and gold that being a strawhat pirate could give because for years and years every bit she earned was tucked away for the well-being of others and was then stolen from under her nose. (This paragraph got very long but I'm not sorry I am the captain of the Nami defense squad.)
And finally Sanji reflects words of praise as a love language. I think it's the most clear to see with how Sanji is so quick to praise any female character he comes into contact with, especially Nami, but I think it also reflects his strained relationship with zef while working at the baratie. Zeff is always verbally critical of Sanji as a way to rile him up and to encourage him to leave the restaurant. Zef weaponises what makes Sanji tick to antagonise him and tries to get him to leave that way, but Sanji is far too stubborn and feels too great a debt to leave.
I think east blue definitely shows the 5 dynamics in a pretty clear way and kinda helped me understand what makes the characters tick. Also why some of the characters end up butting heads or getting into arguments. They all show and recieve love in different way, sometimes there are misunderstandings or clashes but at the end of the day they all trust each other with their lives and it's such a strong bond.
Anyways I'll eventually draw some more OP but I'd love to hear any thoughts or other people's ideas if they have any on the matter. Sometimes I get analysis brainworms, and I first shared the idea on discord, but figured why not post it to Tumblr too
ALSO please if anyone has examples from the series that fit the love languages PLEASE share it, makes my heart oougggghhghg.

romance dawn trio (+ zolu) love language <3 loosely inspired by this beloved poem:
The Orange
At lunchtime I bought a huge orange—
The size of it made us all laugh.
I peeled it and shared it with Robert and Dave—
They got quarters and I had a half.
And that orange, it made me so happy,
As ordinary things often do
Just lately. The shopping. A walk in the park.
This is peace and contentment. It’s new.
The rest of the day was quite easy.
I did all the jobs on my list
And enjoyed them and had some time over.
I love you. I’m glad I exist.

Hey so also have Sir Crocodile brainrot and have recently reread Impel Down. This is probably nothing at all but it made me question the artistic choice made. Like we dont see Crocodiles full face until Luffy recognizes him. Before that tho he joins in on Jinbei & Ace's convo about Whitebeard and is shown to (non-)react to Boa Hancocks visit. But we only get his face in shadows or see the hook. Which. Why. Oda we know what he looks like and who the guy with the stitches on his face and the hook is. WHY OBSCURE HIM.
My friend, this is what we call a "cocktease"
Okay jokes aside, yes it was an artistic choise. More specifically, a storytelling technique Oda masterfully used to build up hype and excitement to Crocodile's eventual reveal and re-introduction into the story.
So thanks to Ms Goldenweek's cover story (which ran back during Water 7/Enies Lobby) we already knew Crocodile along with Daz, Bon-chan and Galdino had all been sent to Impel Down, when we also learned about Impel Down, Marineford and the Gates of Justice (+ the giant whirlpool between the three locations) to some extent. ((Now of course, if you were an anime-only then you would've had no idea about the former BW members being in Impel Down. And even if you had read the manga you still would've had to actually pay attention to the cover story and its lore, and not forgotten all about it))
So even before Luffy decides he's going to head to Impel Down to save Ace, we know Crocodile's going to be somewhere down there. The second Luffy arrives there, we are immidiately reminded of the fact when Domino mentions Crocodile taking the traditional "bath" new inmates take at the entrance. And as we descend deeper and deeper into Impel Down, with those cuts to what's happening down at Level 6 every now and then, as well as with the Baroque Works Countdown, Oda time and time again keeps on reminding of us of Crocodile's looming presence in the background. This is all absolutely deliberate. Crocodile was arguably the most iconic (maybe not most popular but iconic) One Piece villian at the time, if given an opportunity of course the readers wanted to see him again. But just letting us see him right away would be anti-climactic, and distracting from what's actually important (Ace, and Luffy getting to him as fast as possible). So keeping him hidden could serve multiple purposes:
For one, Crocodile doesn't get to steal the spotlight from the other characters (at least not too early). We can focus on Luffy, Ace, all the new Impel Down characters and the other returning characters in peace, while Crocodile waits for his turn. Another thing is that Crocodile's presence being downplayed gives off the impression that perhaps him being there isn't that important to the story. Thus, him teaming up with Luffy to break out isn't such an obvious twist (and so when that happens, it's ever more hype as a result)
But indeed, the most important part is that by teasing us constantly through out Impel Down, Oda creates hype. He makes us the readers excited if/when we might get to see the bastard, even if it was just a quick little cameo. So when Luffy finally reaches Level 6 and we finally do get that reveal, everyone loses their fucking marbles over the HISASHIBURI DANA MUGIWARA when we finally get to see The Motherfucker Himself. (And indeed, then getting to see him fight alongside Luffy is cool as fucking hell, completely unexpected and absolutely delightful)
But there's also another thing building up to Crocodile's reveal does. Compare his original introduction to the re-introduction
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Compare Crocodile at the height of his power and influence, to the absolute rock bottom he has hit. No longer happily laughing while looking down on people (literally), he's filthy, he has given up on life, with sunken eyes and a hollow look on his face, only moved by a thirst for petty revenge (/an opportunity to go out with a bang). He doesn't even get the whole page for his grand reveal anymore, he's been shuffled to the side so the plot can progress on the same page.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
And to some degree, this is kind of meant to be a shocking realization to the readers. That this is not the same Crocodile we remember from Alabasta, that Crocodile died when Luffy defeated him. This is just the husk that remains, a shadow of what was once there. It's a sad sight, and probably not what the readers who loved Crocodile The Villian wanted to see. It's not the epic Return of the (Evil) King they wanted. And that juxtaposition helps, because Crocodile doesn't return into the story as a villian, but as a frenemy/ally-on-thin-ice. And that idea is easier to signal to the readers in a lowkey manner when you do his re-introduction like this.
So yes, Oda refusing to show Crocodile's face until Luffy found him was 100% a deliberate artistic choise. This is fantastic storytelling

context i watched the anime up to where bakugou got kidnapped but stopped caring when i was in like hs and before i discovered my One True Love One Piece and then just checked in with the manga every once in a while to see what was up so i know some major plot points and the ending which hurt my soul so i need to figure out what the fuck happened in between all that so i can analyze it for funsies instead of subjecting My Beloved to my thoughts about this and various other medias that she has no understanding of
