Unpopular Opinion time: Sebastian

And TW: long, rambling, possibly incoherent thoughts. Because there are too many of them in my brain 😅

Okay, maybe it’s not actually an unpopular opinion. Im not actually sure. Buuuut….

I absolutely love that Sebastian gets SO mad when we tell him about Lodgok.

Now, before anyone says anything….

I have reasons.

1. His reaction 100% makes sense for his character. I’m not saying his views aren’t problematic. They definitely are. Boy needs some lessons. But we also have to remember literally every interaction we have seen or heard of Sebastian having with a goblin has been completely negative. Goblins cursed Anne (It was Rookwood, but Seb doesn’t know that), Sebastian and MC are attacked by goblins multiple times, Goblins raid Feldcroft and nearby hamlets, AND a Goblin tries to kill Anne with an Axe in front of Sebastian. For him to have reacted to MC working with a Goblin in any other way would have felt disingenuous.

2. You could argue that he’s only angry because he cares about Anne, but I think you could also argue that In his own dumb 15-year-old boy way, he’s worried about MC, too. As stated previously, every interaction he’s had with Goblins has been negative. This kid is stressed to the nines, and now his new friend (MC) is galavanting off with some Goblin. Of course, he’s going to react negatively. In Sebastian’s mind, we’re doing something stupid and dangerous, and he’s scared. His reaction is definitely painful, but it’s also human. People don’t always react appropriately or how we’d like them too in those situations. Plus, like I said….. He’s a dumb boy

3. Let’s also not forget that since losing his parents. Sebastian has been taught, (via Solomon’s example) to react to things he fears/doesn’t understand with anger and hostility. Which is exactly what he does.

Look,I’m not saying I don’t want to drop kick him sometimes.

But…there’s just a special little place in my heart for our moody angsty little Seb. 💚🐍

I am not sure if this has been discussed on this blog before, but I was thinking about the housewarden title and the challenges needed to be won to earn said title lately. we know 2 of the dorms and how it works when a student wants to become HW (Heartslabyul, Pomefiore). Kalim is Scarabia's HW likely because his dad paid/became a large donor of NRC. but for Ignihyde, Savanaclaw and Octavinelle we have no idea. maybe we can speculate for Igni it's whoever is the most tech savvy, and for Sava it's whoever is the best leader/physically strong?? but I can't think of what the challenge could be for Octa. I think the challenges reflect the great seven they're based off of or the messages of the dorms so something like the "generosity of the sea witch" turned into a challenge is difficult to imagine, I think. maybe the HW would need to show how they'd benefit the dorm?? what do you think?

Hmmm, interesting question!

We actually don’t know of any “dorm specific” methods in which housewardens/dorm leaders are picked! Certainly, there are some traits that are desired or skills that would better qualify you for the position (ie in 4-18, it is said that by tradition, Pomefiore’s dorm leader is capable of making the deadliest poison out of all their peers; the wording implies to me that this is usually the case but not always). These conditions or tests (if there is a formal test at all) don’t determine who gets the seat, but rather who is the best candidate for the seat. It doesn’t guarantee they will actually get it.

There are universal ways to take the seat which circumvents “you need X to be the leader”. This (confusingly) sort of negates the whole “to be a dorm leader, you have to be the most ‘fitting’ for each dorm’s core value” thing. (It’s slightly counterintuitive 😅 since even if you don’t embody what a certain dorm is about, you could still technically become the one in charge of it… I have similar gripes with how the Mirror of Darkness puts students in a dorm that “fits their essence”, yet it’s also possible for the students to transfer out via an admittedly tedious process.)

In 1-20, Crowley states that “There are several ways [in which housewardens/dorm leaders are selected]. You could be appointed by the previous housewarden/dorm leader, for example, or duel the current warden/leader and win. The right to challenge a housewarden/dorm leader is bestowed upon all students when enrolling at Night Raven College. A duel is certainly one of the simpler methods.”

In 4-18, Jamil provides a statement which seems to be the opposite of what Crowley told us: “[…] to be housewarden/dorm leader of Night Raven College’s seven dorms, you must be the most befitting of the dorm’s spirit […] The seven dorms each have their own different spirits, and their own ways of determining who befits it.” However, Jamil also says, “Anything less, and you are unqualified to be the housewarden/dorm leader. Dueling is essentially an easy way to determine this”.

So if we put together what Crowley and Jamil said… 🤔 then yes, each dorm has its “own” ways of determining who “best” represents the spirit of a particular dorm. It seems that these tests exist to see who qualifies (ie has the desired traits) to be dorm leader. This does not appear to be as strict of a requirement as it is presented to be since anyone can still file an application to duel the dorm leader or be promoted to the seat in advance if they were picked by the previous one. (Jamil’s scheme in book 4 also implies that if a dorm leader is unpopular or not well-liked by their students, then the students can petition for someone new to take over.) Like, Ace was the first to want to challenge Riddle for his seat—but Ace doesn’t really embody the Queen of Hearts’ spirit of strictness. He was sorted into Heartslabyul by the Mirror of Darkness, but isn’t exactly the “most strict” in the group. And while we know that Kalim ultimately ends up embodying mindfulness in his own ways, the fact remains that he was preemptively chosen (by the former Scarabian dorm leader) and didn’t seem to have to pass any kind of test to prove his worth.

I think the purpose of the duels is beyond being “just a fight between children formally sanctioned by the school”; the point of the duels seems to be to “draw out” the values of each dorm in the combatants via the course of the battle??? Which… I’m not sure how that works, but go off, game 😂 (How are you going to prove your generosity in the duel, throw the fight? Handicap yourself to be merciful and give your opponent the upper hand? But then wouldn’t the opponent also do the same since they’re trying to prove they are better for the seat than you are?)

It’s honestly very difficult to measure something as abstract as character traits, so I get why the school would try to have the students engage in something physically actionable to demonstrate their worthiness. How do you measure who is the most strict?? Are we going to take a personality quiz and see who scores as the most neurotic? For another, how do we measure something as abstract and as subjective as nobility??? Does that mean royals inherently have an advantage to be Diasomnia’s leader???? It also feels weird to compare other traits like generosity, which can easily be faked or be insincere, or mindfulness, which has different applications depending on context.

Regarding Pomefiore, I really don’t think making the most potent poison has much to do with the spirit of tenacity; making powerful poisons is just a skill the Beautiful Queen herself had. Likewise, the preferred qualifications for the other dorms are probably also technical (or “hard”) skills associated with the respective G7 member or I guess with the nature of their dormitory. dhevekxms Imagine going to Ignihyde to become dorm leader and having to pass an extensive coding exam or play a board game since Hades was known for that lol💀I would also like to think that Savanaclaw’s tests are not strength based (despite how muscular many of its dorm members are), since Scar was more intelligent than strong.

I guess when put like that, it’s kind of like a job interview? You could be super qualified for the job and have all the skills it requires of you, but the position may still end up being given to someone else that isn’t qualified for reasons outside of your control. From what I understand, it sounds like dueling and being recommended by the former dorm leader completely overrides any kind of formal challenges to determine who has the desired dorm leader traits and who doesn’t.

That’s just my personal interpretation of the facts we’ve been given though; I could be totally off-base!

Woot! I’m gonna do SGA, bc it’s my main fandom, and SGU, bc I know it’s more your favorite.

(I do wish I was more aware of what the unpopular opinions in the fandom are bc I have no idea how mine rank on a popularity scale...)

💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?

My favorite SGA character is Todd, and I’m not sure I can think of a specific something that I think everyone gets wrong about him. I encourage people to have more, wilder takes on Todd. Maybe always pairing him up with John is something I don't like? Lmao, it’s the pot calling the kettle black, but I do wish that there were more fics that explored him in other relationships. They do have good chemistry, so I get it, but I guess I'm just a rare-pair shipper at heart and now that John/Todd is getting more popular I want rarer stuff. 😅

My favorite SGU character is Greer. I do not remember ever reading anything that I felt got him wrong, so... Please have wrong takes about Greer, world. Reading bad takes annoys me and makes me want to write my own fics. 😂

🖤: Which character is not as morally good as everyone else seems to think?

This is so interesting, because SGA is the war-crimes apologist fandom, so I don’t think everyone thinks anyone is particularly morally good.  I’m gonna say Heightmeyer. I can never forgive her specifically for the way she lied to Michael, betraying her profession and his trust, and I was unmoved by her death. I feel like she has a few fans so that’s probably an unpopular opinion.

SGU is a morally grey character hot spot so... Maybe Caine? I think we’re supposed to think he’s “good” but I’m not sure if everyone actually does. I'll say also that Riley is really annoying me on my current watch-through of the series. I feel like he'd be that friend who's always like "we should do this because it's the right thing to do" in whatever situation, when actually it's just the most annoying thing to do.

💖: What is your biggest unpopular opinion about the series?

I’m not sure about biggest… I feel like this is probably pretty niche, but I’ve seen a couple takes about Kolya being sexually abusive to Todd during his captivity. I don't know if people are taking this as a headcanon or just a fic idea... but while I think it’s an interesting idea, I disagree with it having happened. Mostly just because I don’t see Kolya as being a sexual person, I don't get that energy from him. (Yes, he is certainly a sadist, he gets pleasure from breaking people down, but I don’t think it’s sexual for him.)

For SGU, I once got a repudiating comment on a post because I was ragging on the show for having bad writing, but I don’t necessarily think that’s an unpopular opinion. How about, I wish Amanda was in more episodes and I wish there was more exploration of Amanda and Ginn being in the ship. I think Amanda is a fascinatingly flawed character with a lot of potential that is never realized, because of the aforementioned bad writing issues. Stop focusing on her obsession with Rush and explore her general hedonism! (I'm thinking of the episode of SG1 where Daniel gets addicted to the sarcophagus as a model... give us more of Amanda being obsessed with being able to "feed herself" alien strawberries or whatever, and she makes it a problem for the whole crew because she's stopped caring about fixing the ship.) If I'm not going to complain about needing to rewrite the entire arc that ended them up there, I think the show cuts off the idea of Ginn and Amanda being "spirits in the ship" right when it could have gotten interesting, not that that is unusual for Stargate. We can't have nice things 😭 and I would have liked to explore that more as a plot point, and also had more for Eli and Ginn to do. The whole "together but apart" and "dead but still here" thing is super tragic, and I would have liked to get more of it explored through a lens that wasn't just Amanda's obsession with Rush.

WOOHOO MATCHUPS!! ok uhh for my personality i would say i'm an extroverted introvert, if that makes any sense? i don't mind hanging out around people, i enjoy hanging out around people i like, but sometimes my social meter can go down reaaaal fast. i don't like socialising that much, but if i need to or want to i can converse pretty well (i guess). im quite blunt, im not afraid to say what i think needs to be said, as i feel that hiding things only leads to more problems. i know when things don't need to be said and when to keep my mouth shut tho. i usually balance out the people i'm hanging out with: if they're all quiet introverts im the talkative social one, if they're all loud and chaotic im the quiet one with common sense. idk why i do it its just easier to balance things out, it comes naturally to me. I'm also usually the protective one of the group, if someone looks at my friends funny i'll be the first one to glare back, or shield my friends from them. heck i'll even pick a fight if i need to, come at me bro. when it comes to standing up for others, all my shyness and social awkwardness goes out of the window lmao. i can also be a bit too sensitive at times, my emotions are quite strong, leading me to cry even though i definitely do not feel the need to 💀. it's humiliating honestly but i just ignore it and act like there's no tears at all. other than that i can usually push my emotions to the side and think logically, the best i can in that situation anyways

for my interests and hobbies, i like gaming and consuming fictional media, mostly manga and anime, although i don't mind other genres as well. my current hyperfixations are high&low (duh) and tokyo revengers, so u can kinda see a theme going on huh... i'm also a huge music enjoyer, i can listen to anything (except for love ballads. idk why i just can't rlly stand listening to them), but my fav genres are pop, kpop, and jpop. I'm also an actor! I'm aiming to get into the entertainment industry in the future, although my parents want me to take a more "solid" degree first just so i'm able to support myself financially (they're not wrong honestly). i think i'm pretty good at acting teehee (i'm rlly good at lying too :P).

there are many things i dislike, so many that i can't even think of any, but i guess the most important ones are discrimination like homophobia/transphobia, sexism, racism, etc. ik it seems like a no brainer, but i absolutely cannot accept a partner who does any of these. it's not that hard to be a decent human being. ive already mentioned most of the things i like up there, but others include cats, plushies, kuromi, food (i LOVE food. small stomach tho), and many more that i again cannot think of.

OF Favourites Rankings (Halfway Point)

Got tagged by @thatgirl4815 and thought it'd be fun to do but as usual I'm a bit late, as this was supposed to be done before ep 7 aired. 😅 Ah well, I'm still going to rank the characters only up to the halfway point of the series (aka the end of ep 6) so bear in mind that this was my list before ep 7 (and it did slightly change since).

Ok, let's get into the rankings, from last to first place:

7. Boston

Said this before and I'll say it again: I enjoy having Boston on my screen because he always makes things interesting and entertaining. He's just a character I absolutely love to hate. As a person, though, he is just so rancid that he takes my last spot in the ranking and I base most of that on the way he treats his friends tbh. If this is the shit he does to people he's supposed to be close with and care about, then I dread to think how he treats those that mean absolutely nothing to him. The thing is I'm usually a huge fan of characters who do bad/toxic stuff (as you will see later on in my ranking) but they need to have reasons other than their ego for it and at the halfway point I don't see that in Boston. This might change by the end of the show, of course.

6. Cheum

I have two main reasons why she's so low on this list, the first of which being that she simply doesn't have enough screentime/storylines for me to form a strong attachment to her character, and the other being that she sometimes annoys me with her remarks. I enjoyed the conflict we got between her and April but it was so brief, I wish the female characters got the same treatment as the male ones instead of feeling like an afterthought. This is actually my one major criticism of the show but unfortunately it's a problem most BL shows suffer from.

5. Nick

I sympathise with Nick but at the same time I'm also like "you kind of brought this on yourself, my guy." The way he's either blinded by Boston's sweet-talk or just doesn't mind Boston's assholery frustrates me so much sometimes, which is why he's only nr. 5 for me. That and the fact that we don't know that much about him (yet) either. I need more to fully connect.

4. Top

I feel like this is an unpopular opinion but I think Top gets too much shit from the fandom. Yes, the reason he started pursuing Mew was shitty, but along the way he did genuinely develop feelings for Mew and imo him wanting to change and settle down is sincere. I'm a big believer in second chances if people are genuinely willing to change and better themselves, which I do think Top wants. Obviously, him sleeping with Boston (and lying to Mew) was shitty and it's one of the reasons why the nr. 4 spot is probably as high as he can go for me but I'm way more lenient there than most people because he was heavily manipulated into it by Boston and then regretted it and felt guilty about it. This isn't an excuse on my part, btw, I'm not absolving him of blame, but context makes a difference for me personally. I also think his character has the potential to grow a lot and I'm a hoe for character development (as you'll also see later).

3. Mew

Same as with Top, I feel like my opinion on Mew is somewhat unpopular, especially when it comes to his relationship with Ray. Basically, I don't think he's a bad friend at all and I believe he genuinely wants to help Ray but sometimes goes about it the wrong way (possibly due to previous experience). I think his heart is in the right place when it comes to most things and he's just like... a pretty normal dude, which I appreciate. That doesn't mean he has no flaws and can't be petty or nasty if he wants to be, however. I guess my one problem with him is I sometimes struggle to see why he fell so hard for Top specifically (what was so special about Top) because we weren't really given much of a reason. Unless it's just one of those situations where you fall for someone's looks/vibes and like that they're nice/sweet to you, and it isn't much deeper than that (because that happens to people, but Mew doesn't seem like the type to fall for those reasons). Basically, I like Mew much more when he isn't with/around Top.

2. Sand

I don't even have much to say here because I literally love everything about Sand, flaws and all. The only thing that slightly irritates me sometimes is the fact that he (unintentionally) self-sabotages by not wanting to talk about his feelings, probably because he wants to appear as if he's fine all the time even when he's clearly not. Sand is also the character I relate to most. Honestly, if it wasn't for my tendency to obsess over "broken" characters who do destructive things but are otherwise not bad people (and have a huge character development potential) then Sand would be my nr. 1. But, alas...

1. Ray

Ah, yes, we've arrived to the aforementioned "broken" character. This man has more issues than all the other characters combined and it's exactly what makes him my favourite character, oops. Unlike Boston's shitty behaviour, which is driven by ego, Ray's is driven by loneliness, abandonment issues, a lack of love, the list goes on. I genuinely think he's not a bad person, but he's self-destructive (which ends up endangering others as well) and obsessive/unable to let go (particularly when it comes to Mew), which is a recipe for disaster. He wants to be loved so badly but he wants it from the wrong person (Mew) in the wrong manner (romantic). As I said before, I'm a hoe for character development and Ray's potential on that front is off the charts. I want to see him deal with his numerous issues and grow from it as a person. What can I say, I'm just a sucker for those types of characters.

I want to conclude this by saying that there are two wolves inside me: one is a Sand Protector and the other is a Ray Apologist. They are at constant war with each other. Whichever one wins a battle at any given moment determines which of the two characters is currently my nr. 1 and which my nr. 2. That is all. 🙃

Weird old man who’s really pessimistic and kinda gave up on everything. 😕 (Why don’t you explain stuff?! Why aren’t you useful pls. What's up with the doll too ??)

Well… do I really need to explain ? Ah yes I need. I should for people who don’t know. Ok. I really like him! My interpretations made me like him, a lot. It’s like that, that’s how I feel I can’t changed that. I am touched by his tragic and nuanced story. I might have a severe brain rot on him to help

I love him ok, he’s one of my favs after all. I joke he’s the little blorbo meow meow of my heart but in all seriousness.. I really like the character he’s really interesting and intriguing. Yes he screw up and found out the hard way but I think he’s such a tragic and misunderstood figure too. LOOK AT HIS BOSS FIGHT AND THEME too ! Omg and everything really. 

Also I used to found funny, people who have the most depressive guy as their comfort character ahah Well guess what 😅 I mean I’m probably still in denial but bro literally appear 5s in one of my nightmare to comfort smn so hm… I guess my brain is trying to made me understand smt.

Hm sorry I got a bit absorbed hm I will finish by saying that it took me quite some times to end to this impression. It din’t happen overnight for sure. I really I asked myself lot of questions. I spend lot of time doing research and having long reflexion on everything and particularly on him. 

Favorite moment

His freaking boss fight ! Ahhh (yeah after finishing the game I listened to his theme for like 1 hour at 2am. Yep normal bloodborne experience 👍) I really love it I feel like I can imagined all his life with his theme (same with Laurence’s theme too)

Idea for a story

I have too much. Most of my stories are focused on more than 1 characters so with only him or really focused on him ? Oh well…

-His childhood/teenage years/ young adult years + how he ended up at Byrgenwerth (Kinda angsty in the middle but hey it’s « soft » compared to the rest 😭😂) I won’t tell too much on that but I already share some hehe

His life after Maria passed away and before the hunter dreams…. (Divided in 2)

Really angsty dark and depressive part not long after that … :/ want to make me cry really…

When he’s older and  calmed down a bit, still hunts a bit, help new hunters, (rip og group of old hunters there’s not much anymore) have a dog and all 🥺 try to you know, live a normal life again  until well you know… Cainhurst & the church… the dream…

Unpopular opinion

Well… I don’t think he’s that creepy, fucked up and sexist old man many people depicted him to be. I won’t dive into that too much now. It would be long and I don’t have the time. Another day perhaps + I already try to talk about it I think. And there’s really good stuff on the subject around. I think he’s a really nuanced and maybe really loose it after some point but not that badly. With all the clues I got in the game : the mistranslations (+ I didn’t played in English originally too!) + the differents interpretations on so many things + his presentation & ending it just don’t feel right for me to categories him that way. (+If he was really the biggest asshole don’t you think he would have end like Seluvis or Gideon in elden ring? Like shit? I feel many bloodborne characters are way way worse and no one fight over it too XD)

So yeah that's It I don't thins he's that bad 😐 that's it

I’m not sure how to describe it. Might feel insane perhaps but I have just so many thoughts and feels on those 2.

Even if I have interpretations I prefer and I’m a bit biased because of some of my taste & main hcs cough I love so many interpretations of their relationships as well.

What was their relationship exactly, where they just close friends, master/apprentice, coworkers,  platonic? romantic feelings? Oneside/both sides? Did smt happen between them ? Never happened ? Was it smt really weird on fence or in the contrary nothing weird at all ?? Or were they maybe related from the same family ? Father/daughter (figure). Since when do they know each others ? How did they meet ?! 

Even if I tend to share more of one specific headcanons of mine (the more developed one and version of bloodborne lore that I have) I have so many ideas clashing in my heads and I love seeing unique and interesting takes on it. We can’t denied this 2 are strongly link together and have such a unique bond that transcend death and dreams themself.

Of course my fav one being the one where/when they were (just) close friends that relate to one another a lot and believed they understand each other really well (for some times at least) idk but I cannot, not imagined them being all silly and doing really silly things back at Byrgenwerth. 

So anyway I wish we had more and my brain is crazy trying to fill the gasps.

Also I wish we knew more on his relationship with Laurence & Willem but also Ludwig & the doll and  other characters as well.

He was byrgenwerth groundskeeper 

He made the mercy blades + it was his originally (so he had a grand and smaller weapon too)

The weird half hidden note in the hunter dreams about ending the nightmare/dream is from him

He can sew really well and fixed the old hunters clothes who were damaged (people skins too 💀)

He used too/could make really great wood figures + toys

He made all the old hunters badge himself and they’re made out of siderite too (but I think it’s a bit oblivious) 

He did some study at Byrgenwerth and do know quite a lot of things (all the books at the workshop, blood gems etc)

I don’t think it’s really unpopular but she’s quite a really gray characters too. I wish we knew more about her motivation and what she really wanted. Like did you really wanted to kill Godwyn and do a giant mess or was it circumstance hm? I found some other characters way easier to like than her too. Sorry 😢

With Blaidd of course (but also Iji and Rykard, her mother etc). (And the tarnished XD) and I wish we had info about her relationship with other characters (like all her siblings and half siblings)

I love him!! Easily the most powerful meta on Team Flash (canon can nerf him all it wants, I know the truth ✋), and the heart of Team Flash (a position he shares with Iris post-s1)

All the people I ship romantically with this character

This is...a bit of a difficult question to answer 😅 Barry and Kamilla fall into this category easily, while Caitlin falls somewhere in the middle (I still have KV fics in my bookmarks, but I don't ship it as much as I used to)

Iris...sorta halfway counts because of my love for Barriscowest, but I don't ship Iris/Cisco as its own ship, so 🤷‍♀️

My unpopular opinion about this character

Kamisco is a very sweet and supportive ship!! It's not boring!! It just didn't get as much focus as a ship like Cynco did (or even a friendship like Caitlin & Cisco), but it's very clear how supportive of Cisco (and his powers!!) Kamilla is, and vice versa. I do wish they'd gotten more focus on and development though, because they're very sweet and underrated. Just not quite as fleshed out (and with the unfortunate pitfall of being part of the show's worst seasons)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon

He should've kept his powers ✋ he had a whole arc of accepting them in s2, and his reasons for giving them up were muddled throughout s5 (and he temporarily got them back during Crisis anyway, and then recreated them with tech, so like...what was even the point of him giving them up??)

Unpopular and controversial opinion: some fans think P is hiding secret relationships by being super private and talking minimally abt his personal life, I disagree 'cause I think what he's truly hiding is that he is a fucked up person to be in a love relationship with. The closer he got to reveal his 'true' was when he said he "stays away from relationships" and I agree with the other anon that the lady who interviewed him made him VERY comfortable for him to say that. And when I read that, honestly, I saw a red flag 🤷‍♀️ to me he was basically letting his "mask" fall off. Imagine a guy on Tinder having that quote on his bio? or a guy you're super interested in and go out with on a casual date and he says that to you... what would you think of him? come on... and no I don't think Pedro is fucking loads of people but I do believe he did broke a few hearts over the past years, by not giving people a chance and just giving them sex. He himself knows he's not a walk in the park as a person so I think that in interviews and stuff he tries his best to hide his red flag, you know? 'cause his fans put him in such a ridiculously high pedestal that it would be a complete tragedy to them to find out their "god" is a common man full of (many) flaws and yes, a total mess when it comes to love. I'm not saying he's a monster or abuser of any kind but as he "joked" on that insta post, "she complicated" 🤷‍♀️// I totally agree with you, anon! I adore Pedro but I wouldn't want to be in any sort of situationship with him.

Just Tiger & Bunny, and just FireSky as a pairing, at that! (Who knows if I'll ever branch out... for now I'm very happy in my little corner of the fanfic world 🥰)

I probably respond too much to comments, if anything 😅 I cherish them immensely, so I tend to get a little carried away, and I try to answer every single thing that people say in them 🥺💙

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oh. Uhm. I only really do happy endings, so... let me think.

Technically, the story that leaves the most angst still on the table by the end is Stereoscopy (The Hero's Shoulders), because there are some not-totally-solved things left in the background.

The one where the angst lingers closest to the end as a feeling, though, possibly enough to leave a tiny taste-memory of it in your mouth, might be To a Steadfast Heart, or possibly Second Song.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Oh, gosh. I suppose it depends on how you define happiest...

The most triumphant and satisfying ending I've done plot-wise, in my opinion, is hands-down Intertidal's.

If you're going more by something like "how much pink glitter and marshmallows is the final scene conjuring in my brain", though, it might be Love, Counted along the Fibonacci Sequence, or maybe An Honest Mistake, or Asterism (I write a lot of pink-glitter-and-marshmallows endings, sorry.)

8. Do you get hate on fics?

The haters would have to know little old me exists for me to get hate, lol. But more seriously, no, I get nothing but sweetness and I'm so grateful 💖💖💖

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Welll... I never quite mean to, but sometimes the story (and characters) ends up asking for it/needing it, and I'm so bad at saying no 😅

As for what kind... the kind that can have a 10k, E-rated chapter solely dedicated to the characters having sex, without me ever having to pick a word for "dick", lol (No, there's no trashy euphemisms, either; it's just me, my deep embarrassment, Keith Goodman's Very Polite POV, and synecdoche, my beloved, against the world 😂)

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I haven't, and I don't think I'm terribly interested in trying (never say never, of course, but for now I can't think of any that I'd want to write). AUs and/or fusions, on the other hand, are very interesting and I'm farily sure at some point I'll end up writing one.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Again, they'd have to notice the fic to steal it 😅 (Of course, it might have happened without my knowledge, but I don't see why anyone would steal unpopular fics. And besides, it would have to either be posted on a website I don't look at, or modified to be other characters, because "my" ship tag on ao3 is far too small to hide anything in there, lol)

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No. (I'd make a joke about them being translated from the Italian in my head to the English on the page, but I think them up in English in the first place, so it wouldn't really apply 😅)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, but I've "co-written" a lot of concepts/headcanons in chats and I always have an absolute blast doing that! (I'm not entirely sure I could ever co-write a fic, honestly, because I'm a bit of a control freak about my creations, and I'd probably get insufferable during the process)

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

The only one I write, lol: FireSky!!! ❤️💜 AKA Keith Goodman/Nathan Seymour, or Sky High/Fire Emblem from Tiger & Bunny (... their hero names ship name looks like a pretty crazy crossover, lol)

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Ooof. I only have two real wips on my hands; the one I have more doubts about ever finishing is the one I was trying to write for the September leg of the 2023 YOTP Challenge (for which I ended up writing a different story altogether). It has very unconvincing logistics, and I don't know if I'll ever be able to fix that to my satisfaction.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Mmmh. I've gotten a fair bit of compliments about my characterization, so that's one, I suppose. I've also been very good so far at only writing one fic at once and actually finishing almost all of them (which is not nothing!) I also really like my metaphors/similes/analogies/symbolism a lot, especially in dream sequences, but I don't know if that's objectively a strength or just something I do well (mostly) only to my personal satisfaction.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I used to be good at not having run-on sentences, but I've gotten so much worse about it lately?!? I really need to check myself on that. And I think I'm not very good at coming up with complex plots (one initial premise to kick things off, and then following the flow from there? Doable. Several significant events actually shaping the story from more than one side? SAVE ME.)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Well, if the characters were speaking another language for some reason I suppose I might, but I'm only fluent in two languages, so unless I could find someone who could help me, I would probably try to avoid the issue altogether somehow.

I also think it's not an easy thing to handle, because if the reader is not supposed to understand, a few words and phrases here and there, that maybe get explained/translated in-story at the moment or later, are okay; but huge chunks that the reader can't understand would just be annoying, and if they're supposed to understand, you need to fit a translation in along with the foreign dialogue, and it might not always be easy to do so in an efficient / not cumbersome manner.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Mh. If we want to be really precise about this, I think somewhere in my parents' house is a tiny notebook with a lilac (or possibly pale pink) cover, where a strange, short scene set after the Season 1 finale of Smallville is written in pencil. But that was a one-off thing.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Stereoscopy (The Hero's Shoulders) will always and forever be my baby; it's the one I poured the most time and soul and effort into, and the one that I consider, in a way, the definitive fic I could write for that pairing.

I do feel like I have to mention Intertidal, as well, though: it's by far my favorite of the rest my fics, and I think it has a lot to offer.

Fecto Elfilis for the character ask.

First Impression:

Okay. I’m not sure how to precisely describe my first impression of them, but know that I was absolutely losing my MIND the entirety of the game’s finale. The reveal, the cinematics, the music..! Especially the intro of Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit, where Kirby looks up into the sunset, and this ancient unfathomable being slowly descends and spreads their wings for what must be the first time in centuries… Chef’s kiss.

Impression Now:

Look. Look. I just want to tuck them into bed and give them a warm cup of soup. They’re so horrible. They need therapy as soon as possible. They should get to blow something up as a treat. Joking aside, I like them just as much as I did upon the initial reveal! They have SUCH an excellent design and come with such compelling lore. Truly one of the creatures of all time.

Favorite Moment:

…Yeahhh, if it wasn’t made obvious enough by the first question, I really like their introduction sequence.

Idea For a Story:

Hmmm. I think it could be interesting having them interact with some of the other Star Allies, even if that wouldn’t be able to happen in canon! I think they’d have some complicated but very loud opinions on some of Kirby’s friends, haha.

I’ll be honest, I don’t know enough about the popular opinions for them to comment! 😅

Favorite relationship:

Romantically, I don’t have any. However, their relationship with Elfilin is interesting! Two sides of the same coin… I see them as siblings in a sense.

Favorite headcanon:

I’m very fond of the headcanon that they’re one of the four heroes of yore, specifically the one representing Dream Matter (and with Galacta Knight representing Heart Matter, but that’s only tangentially related). In fact, I’m also very excited that we’ve finally gotten to see Dream Matter in action! It sounds so pleasant, but in reality it has just as dark as a potential as the three other types of matter..! I could talk about this and how they link together various other of my headcanons together for ages, haha! I also like the idea that they’re representative of the Doctor Healmore role in Team Kirby Clash. After all, they’re the only boss so far with the ability to heal themself (as far as I’m aware at least; don’t quote me on this!), not to mention their spear— it bears a strong resemblance to the caduceus, a symbol commonly associated with healing! Their story has contributed so much to the overall lore of the series, and I’m excited to see where it leads in future games.

Unpopular opinion maybe, but I've really had it up to here with Tai's selfishness. Despite Patts using violence because he was jealous, which is a big no no for me, I'm on his side this time around. I can understand Tai having trouble communicating, but Patts told him very plainly again and again that he just wants to hear Tai say that he chooses him; that he's 1st in Tai's heart. Instead of giving Patts the reassurance and confidence he so desperately needs, why does he ask Patts why he has to choose? Tai might believe that the soulmates thing takes care of everything but he should know that Patts does not have the same dogged belief in the soulmates destiny thing. On top of that, he now has two soulmates which makes things as clear as mud. Couldn't Tai have said a simple "you're my boyfriend"? I think that would have gone a long way to comforting Patts about their relationship. Tai lied about hanging out with Lomfon and refused to affirm his relationship with Patts so I can't blame Patts for feeling frustrated and lashing out. I almost wish Patts had just walked away after asking to break up rather than begging for forgiveness and sniveling by the door. 😅

Tai acts the same way regarding his parent's divorce. He is only focused on how he feels, we never see him comforting Tien or any of his brothers. He's so obsessed about the soulmates thing from his perspective that he does not consider how his father actually feels. His father has clearly accepted the divorce and moved on, but Tai only wants to believe his narrative of the divorce instead of believing what his father is telling him.

Tai is frustrating me to no end. Sometimes he is quite considerate (he was nice to Nara), but other times he spares no thought for other people's needs or feelings. Tai could really be a better brother too. I'm mad Tien was all alone with his pain at the end of the episode. It's not really on Tai since Tien is an adult and can stay out without Tai calling or looking for him, but since I'm already frustrated with Tai, what's one more thing to add to the list? 😅

1. Who is your favourite character in 2?

Laura easily. She’s such a sweetheart with a pure heart. Of course she’s not perfect but I understand what it’s like to basically lose parts of yourself and act against your values in the name of self-preservation and I empathise with that.

2. Who is your least favourite character in 1?

Rose. I know that’s a super unpopular opinion but 🤷🏼‍♀️ I just find her whiny, selfish, and annoying. Don’t get me wrong I know she’s supposed to be 19 and that definitely plays a role but I just can’t look past it. Also maybe Simm!Master buttttt that’s just me being a bitter ass bitch about things.

3. What’s your favourite episode of 4?

17x03 (Going Mobile), 15x04 (Skeleton Crew), and 16x04 (Third Wheel). There’s so many to choose from but I’ve narrowed it down to three. These are all ones with lots of content around Jack (my fave character) without torturing her.

4. What is your favourite season of 5?

Season 1 by far. I actually really didn’t like season 2.

5. What’s your favourite relationship in 3?

Y’know I actually don’t have many ships in Once Upon A Time and none of the ones I do have are really serious. I think maybe Regina x Rumple (but I also lowkey ship Zelena with Rumple so idk).

6. Who is your anti relationship in 2?

Oop here’s another super unpopular opinion but I can’t stand MadamFarr. 😅 I love Laura as we’ve already figured out and I really can’t stand Rita or the way Rita treats Laura. I just think Laura deserves better. However, I’ll support it a tiny bit if it becomes canon as I’ll do anything to have Laura’s queerness confirmed on the show.

11 or 12 years.

8. How did you become interested in 3?

I saw an ad for it on tv! But I didn’t wait until it aired here in New Zealand I just watched it online.

9. Who is your favourite actor in 4?

Two (Doom Patrol). But one (Doctor Who) is a close second.

11. Which show have you seen more episodes of 1 or 3?

I would think it’s Doctor Who even if you don’t count the classic episodes. There’s just a lot more of it. I’ve seen every episode of both shows.

12. If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?

I’m most like Ellie and I ship her with Jack so I think it would be her.

13. How would you kill off your favourite character in 5?

Lmao I would not. Somehow she’s still alive, at this point it seems to me Miranda Croft is unkillable. If she was to be killed off it wouldn’t be a fair fight - maybe one of her many enemies sent multiple assassins (at the same time) to kill her.

14. Would a 3/4 crossover work?

Definitely not. That’s not to say that that there isn’t a place for supernatural/fantastical content in procedural shows (I’m pretty sure I recall Castle having a zombie episode and a time travel episode). However, I think that the NCIS characters would not know what to make of the Once Upon A Time characters and the situations they’d be in and the more they learned the worse it would get. They would find out about these ridiculously complicated families etc and just start calling everyone out. Which would piss off the Once Upon A Time characters and it would all go to hell basically.

15. Pair two characters in 1 that would make an unlikely, but strangely okay couple.

I think Captain Jack and Donna would work well together. The hard part would be getting Donna to give it a chance.

16. Overall, which show has the better cast, 3 or 5?

Uhhhh … neither of these shows are particularly known for their cast as far as I’m aware, although both casts do excellently at delivering the material. In Once Upon A Time there’s two actors I like and in The Flight Attendant there’s only one. So based on that I’d have to go Once Upon A Time. However, I only watched The Flight Attendant for Michelle Gomez but I watched Once Upon A Time because I was actually interested in the premise of the show. So based on that I’d have to go The Flight Attendant. Meh, I guess it’s a tie 🤷🏼‍♀️

Unpopular opinion but I like Kaia😭. I've been in fanbases with white male celebs and their deranged female fanbases.

Despite the pap walks and stuff(all nepo celebs do it, lily rose is a good example lol), she's very supportive and nice. At least he's not dating some very problematic women lile other male celebs, catch Timothee. Her worst crime is shes friends with all these ppl in that industry and isnt that talented, and that is okay lol. More blame on those casting directors than her because they have thebpower to not take her. I like her book club though. You're the only austin fan who depsite being a bit snarky, I dont mind because I'm also a tomdaya fan, and I love your blog😭😭. Also, I know your heart is in the right place. Some Austin fans on this app could give Club Chalamet a run for her money and I cant tolerate hate towards women for a man sorry. Internalised misogyny is so real and sad. Most women are in denial and I can understand if their young but grown adults?

I meannnn...you can like whoever you like Anon lol 😅 You can be a fan of Kaia if you want to. Just don't come in my inbox dragging me (or others) just cuz we don't worship the ground she walks on, or think she's anything all that "special" LOL😅

Most of Austin's fandom is actually pretty tame when it comes to Kaia (or not liking her) if you ask me. I've seen WAAAAY worse in other wm fandoms tbh lol. 🤣

And for the most part, the ones who don't like him dating Kaia, it's usually for several reasons.

Most didn't really like/care for her or the Gerber family like that even before she was dating Austin

Some just don't like Nepobabies period 🤷🏾‍♀️....especially UNtalented ones who keep getting roles even though they suck at acting lol

Others just wish Austin were dating someone closer to his own age 🤷🏾‍♀️

Some fans just feel like Kaustin is weird and seems a bit contrived on some level....maybe due to the whole Gerber clan, or some of her other relationships.

And lastly, some fans feel like his relationship/Kaia tends to crowd his work and career life, and that everything gets made into something about Kaia even when he's just trying to promote his movie, and some fans just don't like that.

And then of course, there are SOME fans who just don't like Austin dating ANY woman because they're just jealous fangirls lol 😅 (those tend to be VERY few though) Most of us Austin fans are used to him NOT being single, and don't have a problem with him dating someone (most of us were around when he was dating V for like nearly a decade lol, so we're used to him being in a very SERIOUS relationship with someone)

Also, I just want to add, that SOME fans don't feel like Kaia is 100% "unproblematic". Some fans didn't like her posts supporting Israel during the Gaza/Israel conflict. Others have also noted that she hangs with Camila Morrone very closely, and some have said that Camila has said some racist things online. I'm not sure how true that last part is, but that's just what I've heard. 🤷🏾‍♀️

But you're def free to like whoever you want to like Anon!😊 I don't judge if anyone wants to like a certain celebrity on here.

I don't hate Kaia at all, there are just certain things about her that I just give the side-eye to and she's just meh/kinda phony to me at times. But even despite her bad acting, her privileged upbringing, or their weird Kaustin relationship, as long AUSTIN is happy, then I'm fine! 🥰

Hello friend! Let me preface this by saying it's totally ok if you don't like Spider—not every character is gonna be everyone's cup of tea and that's normal! "Annoying" is subjective and you are well within your rights to find any character annoying, even if it's an unpopular opinion. :)

That said, I'm not sure whether some of the points you raise are entirely accurate. For example, could you clarify where exactly he was disrespectful toward Jake and Neytiri? I can't think of any instances of that in the movie. He does have an argument with Neytiri in the comics, but to be entirely fair, as much as I love Neytiri and will defend her till the cows come home, she is the one who snapped first in that situation, not Spider, who was initially trying to be polite and take responsibility:

It's true that Spider is best friends with Kiri and Lo'ak, who even see him as an honorary brother, but his relationship with Jake and especially Neytiri is more....complicated, needless to say, which makes the idea that Jake and Neytiri are available parental figures who would totally take him in if only he would let them....kinda iffy, I'm afraid 😅

In Neytiri's case, she struggles to trust Spider, partly because he is human and based on her past experiences she believes that sky people are generally untrustworthy and "will always break their word". And...can you really blame her? Her sister was shot and killed at Grace's school—Grace, whom the Na'vi students had spent ten years learning from and loved enough to honorarily refer to her as "Mother". So for her schoolhouse to (albeit unintentionally) become a slaughterhouse when Grace failed to save Sylwanin must have felt like a very traumatic betrayal (hence Grace getting banished from the village, even though the shooting wasn't her doing).

Even Jake, whom Neytiri loves dearly, betrayed her at one point—while it's true that he had a change of heart, felt incredibly remorseful, and has strived to do everything in his power to make up for his past mistakes, the fact still remains that Jake did initially meet the Omatikaya as basically a spy for Quaritch and it was through Jake's intel that Quaritch was able to successfully destroy Hometree...an event which cost Neytiri not only her home but also her father (and presumably many other clanmates). No wonder she hesitates to trust sky people—the way she experienced it, even the good ones who she trusted have gotten her loved ones killed (albeit indirectly)!

And Spider in particular has the added misfortune of not only being a sky person, but specifically Quaritch's son. Quaritch who led the strike on Hometree, Quaritch who tried to destroy the Tree of Souls, absolutely massacring the Na'vi clans in the process, Quaritch who nearly killed her mate, Quaritch who she put an end to personally.

So no, Neytiri does not particularly "welcome" Spider among the Sullies, because based on her prior experience with sky people, she fears that it's not really a matter of if he will do something bad, but when. She mostly tolerates him hanging out with her kids but doesn't really like it, and Spider is very well aware of that (which understandably frustrates him...after all, he didn't ask to be human nor Quaritch's son).

As for Jake, according to the comics he generally sympathizes with Spider and wants to "cut him some slack" and not judge him for this sins of his father. Despite this, however, even Jake still has doubts and is a bit wary about Spider turning out like Quaritch, because he sees enough of himself in his own kids to know that "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" (I could go on a tangent on how this isn't necessarily a bad thing, personality traits can be genetic but what you do with said traits is not and Spider has some interesting potential to be a sort of "anti-Quaritch" by using Quaritch's same personality traits but for good, but I think I'll save that for another post at another time). So while Jake is certainly more open to Spider than Neytiri is, I wouldn't really quite call him a "father figure" that Spider could totally just have if only Spider would just let him.

Spider's foster family, the McCoskers, are the closest thing he had to a formal family unit, but they...kinda sucked ngl. We don't see a ton of their relationship, but from what we do see, the McCoskers don't seem to put a whole lot of effort into understanding Spider...his interests, his struggles, etc. They took care of his physical needs, food and shelter and whatnot, but don't seem to understand or care about his fascination with Na'vi culture etc. It's no wonder he never really bothered to make a bond with them...they didn't bother to make one with him.

So when Spider meets recom Quaritch, a sorta-reincarnation of his biological father, that is kinda the first real father figure he's ever had in his life. Which is incredibly conflicting for him, because yes, he knows that Quaritch is ~the bad guy~.

I don't think it's accurate to say that Spider was "leading the team that killed Neteyam". Spider was coerced to team up with the recoms: his options were either tag along with them, or continue being tortured by Ardmore. He couldn't just run off, because they put a tracker in his mask and would punish him if he tried. He wasn't particularly happy about teaming up with them, because again he knows they're the bad guys, and as such takes any opportunity he can get to irritate them (as long as he can get away with it). His knowledge of Na'vi and Pandora was an asset to the team, yes, but he was hardly "leading" them anywhere, and the moment he got a real opportunity to escape—when Lo'ak and Neteyam came for him on the ship—he took it.

Of course, things get more complicated because throughout the months he was forced to spend with the recoms, for the first time in his life he has a potential father figure taking an active interest in trying to bond with him. Of course that's gonna be a big deal for a perpetually emotionally-homeless kid, whether he wants it to be or not. On top of that, Quaritch does choose to save Spider's life when Neytiri is threatening him, and I think that's a major factor in Spider going on to save Quaritch's later (a decision which even in the moment he was clearly conflicted about).

Lastly, the recoms did not "murder most of the Omatikaya". They were sent to target Jake specifically, and never even saw any of the other Omatikaya outside of the Sully family (as far as we know, the RDA never succeeded in finding High Camp). You might be mixing up "the recoms" with the RDA as a whole, and while the Omatikaya, like all the clans (and the RDA for that matter), did take heavy casualties in the first movie, a sizable portion of them survived...I suppose we don't know the exact numbers, but I don't think it's ever mentioned that the Omatikaya were almost wiped out completely. You may be thinking of the Olangi clan (direhorse riders), which tragically was almost completely decimated in the battle.

tl;dr Spider's situation and relationships, be it with Jake, Neytiri, Quaritch, or anyone else, are ✨Complicated™✨, and there are lots of different experiences, perspectives, and struggles driving each of the characters to behave the way they do.

I of course am not going to force you to like Spider if you simply don't—like I said at the beginning of the post, not every character is gonna be everyone's cup of tea and that's totally fine! I don't really consider him my favorite either (I don't dislike him, I just have other characters that I'm more invested in). But I hope this post maybe shed a bit more light on his situation and relationships and why he acts the way that he does :)

unpopular opinion, i rly don't like spider. there's something about him that gets under my skin. just thinking about him gets me irritated lollll

to elaborate ig, he's incredibly disrespectful to the only people who ever took him in, both the sullies and the few who stayed behind who basically raised him. he's disrespectful in the way he acts toward Neytiri and Jake, and doesn't listen to anyone. HE SAVED QUARTICH AND I AM NOT EVEN GONNA PRETEND THAT HE DIDNT KNOW ABOUT WHAT HE DID IN THE PAST

and i understand that he's "the only father he's ever had" no hes not. He has jake, he has the scientists and turned-good recoms. He would have a father figure if he let someone father him. and i understand maybe he wasn't "accepted" but i think thats also bs because he was clearly welcome with the sullies, and assumably the rest of the Omotikayan people. which i understand why he would be excluded because the recoms literally murdered almost all the Omotikayan Na'vi!!!!!

also he's just annoying and cringe.
