The new anti-trans executive order:

1- Defines 18 year-olds as children for the purposes of banning transition.

2- Defines transition as mutilation.

3- Falsely presents detransition as the norm to "justify" saving people from themselves.

4- Declares trans medicine in general (not just for minors) to be "junk science" and aims to produce a Cass-style politically-motivated review establishing trans people as confused, mentally ill, and frivolous (the recent military ban already uses language that labels trans people as inherently dishonest).

5- Treats "rapid onset gender dysphoria" like it is a valid concern.

6- Threatens to defund institutions that provide trans healthcare to people under 19.

7- Threatens to use anti-FGM laws against healthcare providers who facilitate transition (no age limit).

8- Seeks to use the FDA to declare trans healthcare fraudulent and facilitate lawsuits against doctors who provide it, including by the parents of the people receiving the care rather than the patients themselves.

While this will likely be challenged in courts, it could do a lot of damage (especially if providers just comply) and it is unlikely to stop at trans minors.

If you haven't already, consider stockpiling HRT and/or leaving the country.

Sometimes I think about my old manager at work who, in order to prove that the organisation was safe for trans people, told me about a fellow trans employee—a woman who was passing! who wasn’t out to me or to anyone else!—and about how chill everyone in management had been about her needing to take time off TO GET VAGINOPLASTY. He was not her manager! He was not her friend! He did not work in HR! There was no way he could have come into this PRIVATE MEDICAL INFORMATION without being told by another manager who had gossiped. And even if there had been, why the fuck was it any of my business!

Likewise, a friend of mine was just told by a school principal about how a prospective school was safe for trans kids… because a trans girl whose parents don’t affirm her at home is able to be affirmed at school. This information about this child’s gender and home environment was relayed along with her FUCKING GRADE LEVEL. This incredibly vulnerable kid was wheeled out as a selling point by the school with way more than enough information to figure out who she was.

In order to make the argument that a place is safe for trans people, cis people are wayyyy too happy to give out private information about trans people. With allies like these, who needs enemies!!!

My dear lgbt+ kids, 

I'm compiling some safety tips here for people in the US here that I found online. Some things you may want to do before January: 

Make an appointment with your doctor to talk about a long-term birth control plan, such as an IUD or vasectomy. 

Make an appointment with your doctor to make sure your vaccinations are up to date and to get a Covid booster. 

Check in, and stay in contact with, your queer friends. There’s strength in numbers. Community is important. 

Consider renewing your passport if necessary. 

Consider stocking up on fluoride toothpaste, pregnancy tests or other health products you worry about not (safely) having access to in the future. 

Rest up. Hydrate. Eat. Take care of yourself. The best act of rebellion is staying alive. You don’t need to feel strong or brave or even optimistic, just be kind to yourself.

I feel sick. I'm so scared. Things are going to get so much worse for trans adults in the UK when the Levy review for adult trans care comes out in November. My GP clinic already tried to not prescribe my T when the gender clinic endocrinologist first recommended it, I had to fight them so hard on it, and I'm terrified at any point they will stop.

Please share this. It is so disheartening that when I make posts about US trans issues they have thousands of notes within a couple hours, but UK trans issues barely get 100 notes. Our struggles are linked. The letter, in fact, uses the American spelling of certain words like 'realize' - Which has made some suspicious that this is a form letter provided by the American anti trans hate groups that have been pushing for more transphobic discrimination in the UK lately.

This WILL affect trans people in the US eventually. They will use the UK as an example to follow, when they are (at least partially) the ones who created the conditions for our growing medical discrimination. Our fight is your fight. Please, please care about it. Help people be aware of this at the very least.
