I actually love how much of Arrow and The Flash are just...everyone falling for Oliver and Barry's respective inverse façades. Oliver's kind of a quiet introverted dork and he just wants to be left alone to do not-on-the-island things and everyone buys his hardcore threatening dangerous action-guy routine, and Barry's a deeply arrogant and intelligent man who's seen a lot of darkness and is more than willing to do what he thinks is necessary to achieve his own goals, and everyone around him thinks he's the world's cutest cinnamon roll too good for this world.

#to be clear the other things are true too. they're both more complicated than the image they project #but how these elements get overlooked is...fascinating #<- interesting indeed 👀#what’s ALSO interesting is that barry’s arrogance goes hand-in-hand with a martyr/guilt complex #like…he’s arrogant sometimes in how he feels entitled to do whatever is necessary to achieve his goals #but ALSO his martyr complex plays into that #HE has to be the one to fall on the sword. HE has to sacrifice himself. HE has to break up with iris to atone #(*cough* even tho that last one completely erases iris’s own agency. but that’s the entirety of s3 really esp this stupid breakup angst)#barry is kindhearted and compassionate #he also feels like he has to fix the world because of a perpetual guilt #(and probably some suicidal ideation…barry was VERY quick to jump to killing himself once savitar was unmasked)#he ALSO feels like HIS goals + methods to achieve those goals are Always Right and everyone else should just trust him on that #often the only ones able to get through to him are iris and cisco. but EVEN THEN it’s not always -#because barry will not do anything unless HE believes in it #the arrogance + martyr/guilt complex + compassion go hand-in-hand #and it would make little sense to call most people arrogant AND compassionate. but barry IS #(from what i can tell oliver is too. but i don’t have a good enough grasp on him to say for sure 😅)#barry allen #oliver queen #the flash #arrow
