My headcanon about fengqing as parents is that they were extremely overprotective of fu yao and nan feng while practically hiding them away because well.. hua cheng doesn't like them.

first time i watched 'no exit' i was 100% in jo's corner like oh great it's sexist dean time . wheeee let's all watch her learn a lesson about hunting and he can be 'right' in a factual way but he'll be as obnoxious as possible about it the whole time . now i think what's happening here is that he has pretty much instantly samzoned her, as a college dropout from a hunting family who has a contentious relationship with her one surviving parent. EXCEPT that she's a five-foot-something twiggy barely-out-of-her-teens woman who has a crush on him and has never been on a serious hunt before, and he's dismissive/over-vigilant enough with the actual sam, a powerfully-built man with clairvoyant powers and over a decade of experience. bearing that in mind, his behavior towards jo is barely outside his normal realm of bossy and overbearing, and since he knows a little something about how sams will respond to direct orders, he still tells her mother she's not on the hunt with them so as to avoid the fallout until it's over. basically i think the whole dean thing, his most consistent characterization over the course of fifteen years, is his tendency to express even genuine protectiveness through the medium of 'bossy older sibling', and this makes him come off like the worst person on the planet. he frequently IS, but it's actually because of other things and has nothing to do with that habit in specific

In a modern AU Aelin would not believe that Dorian’s daughter, at the ripe age of fifteen months would simply walk to her crib and lay down to nap without making any fuss. She has kids of her own, she knows it’s a scam.

She was visiting Dorian one afternoon, and true to what he described: the small child started sucking on her fingers, a sign she was getting sleepy.

“You want to sleep?” Dorian asked his daughter while walking her to the nursery, Aelin in tow.

Arriving at the nursery, Dorian placed the small child in her crib, and she laid down and closed her eyes, falling asleep without as much as make a fuss.

Aelin still didn’t believe it, even though she was seeing it with her own eyes. She has multiple children and nap time is never this peaceful and children naturally reject naps??? Why is Dorian’s kid like this???

“How do you do this?” Unable to contain her curiosity she asked him when they left the nursery a moment later. The infant not making any sound or being upset that she’s left alone. To Aelin, this is not normal.

“Do what?” Dorian asked.

“That. She just goes to sleep without a fuss?”

“Usually. She knows when she’s tired and when we suggest sleep she’s compliant,” Dorian explained. “Although she has her moments, sometimes she refuses to sleep and end up being fussy and cranky,” Now that sounds like a normal infant behavior, not the compliant child that listens to her body’s needs.

“Dorian, you know that cranky is the default when it comes to sleep, right?”

“I guess we got lucky,” Because he appreciates that his child isn’t like most. It could be because of how they parent her, or it’s just her temperament.

Although, if he’s being honest, he knows that his little daughter takes after her mother in more than just looks. It is a fact he is aware of, one that never fails to bring a smile to his face.

Just think about it. Horrid Henry and Jinxed Junie (B. Jones). Double the trouble. Always looking out for eachother because no one else does. Just a pair of obnoxious twins against the world.

Junie is the only girl in the Purple Hand Gang. Margaret is always trying to recruit her to the Secret Club but she never accepts. Junie loves Henry very much because he doesn’t force her to conform to some stupid “girl mold” that society wants her to fit.

Henry’s twin sister is the only girl he likes. Not Margaret, especially not Nasty Nichola, just her. Because they’ve been together since the womb, they’ve been best friends since day one. If he was in a room filled with everyone he knew, he’d go straight to Junie. Because who else if not her?

Great Aunt Greta is always mistaking each twin for the other. Henry can’t even remember all the times he screams “I’m NOT Junie!” or when his sister screams “I’m NOT Henry!”. Junie, on the other hand, likes messing with Peter in particular because he never tells on her unlike Henry since she’s a “lady”, so she can do whatever she wants to him and he won’t say a peep. She only stops when Henry gets blamed for her actions.

Wherever these two evil twins go, they go together.

in defense of Jin Zixuan, if my examples for being a married Sect Leader were Wen Rouhan (questionable), Jiang Fengmian and Madame Yu (OOF), or Jin Guangshan and Madame Jin (shuddering, crying, throwing up), I also would not be interested in marriage.

And, if the only things I knew about my future spouse were her parents are Jiang Fengmian (openly favors someone widely rumored to be his bastard child, blandest most useless response to anything only beaten out by Sect Leader Yao) and Madame Yu (the openly angrier version of your own mother, probably should have been sect leader in her own right), and her siblings are Jiang Cheng (smaller version of his mother, stressed all the time) and Wei Wuxian (who keeps trying to get himself kicked out of the Cloud Recesses by being more and more shameless), I wouldn't necessarily be open to getting to know her.

This might be controversial, but I've never had this idea of Britannia as being a particularly warm maternal figure. Like, I think she definitely loved her kids, but she was more concerned with their survival than with letting them be children if that makes sense. Her way of showing love was trying her damndest to protect them, and to make sure they could survive on their own after she was gone. It was less explicit "I love you"'s and more compliments on their progress or stern scoldings when they'd gotten themselves into danger. The British Isles Siblings are hard pressed to remember the last time their mother hugged them or sang to them, but they remember her pressing a blade into their hands, kissing their foreheads, and telling them to be brave. They know their worth because of her, but what tenderness they gained they learned elsewhere.
