saw someone on here complain about the way gillian flynn writes women and how it leans too much into white women victim complex type shit and while i'm not saying she isn't guilty of it at times i also can't help but feel like they're just judging her off of a few out of context snippets of her writing rather than a sincere engagement with her works. sharp objects is literally all about toxic femininity. the women are just as fucked up as the men in that story and a major plot point is that the cops don't even consider a female murderer because they don't think women are capable of that (and spoiler alert but you'll never guess the gender of the killer lmao!). i never read or watched gone girl but i do know that the people romanticizing amy dunne are Missing The Point and that's a heavy point of discussion among people who are fans of the book/movie. like idk i feel like of all the writers to criticize for treating white woman like perpetual victims gillian flynn is one of the last egregious lol
