‘Concord’ game review - The Hindu
Concord | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement After the viral success of Helldivers, Sony bet big on Concord, now being touted as the biggest flop of 2024. It is a shame because Concord is actually a pretty good game. In recent years, we have seen many great titles like Avengers and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League fizzle out by going the GaaS (Games as a Service) route. It is a tough…

hello (one of the) resident phannie data analyst(s) here with some parasocial stats on dnp’s movie tastes! following: distribution of dan and phil's ratings overall, movies they each rated 5 stars, their lowest-rated movies, and the similarities + differences in their tastes
(lore moment: yes i am a data analyst in my real job. yes i surprised myself with wanting to do this in my spare time. but then i remembered when we read dracula in college (yes i was an english major) and i graphed like, how many times dracula was referred to as vampire versus monster or something. so i shouldn’t be surprised.
first up, their overall rating patterns and by ~special status~ (i.e., wall-e, kill bill, avatar, lmao, plus big hero 6 for the fun of it)
dan’s rated 304 movies and phil’s rated 305. both of them have mean and median ratings of 4 with min 1 and max 5.
both rated kill bill vols. 1 and 2 a 5. wall-e got a 4.5 from dan and a 4 from phil (phake phans). both gave avatar a 3.5. and big hero 6 3.5 (dan) and 4.5 (phil)
rating distribution:
Tumblr media
i did analyses here by genre but i need to fix the output (i’m writing all of these based on the markdown document from my phone on the subway, but i need to fix the outputs and i don’t have my computer. so those are pending but there are other genre analyses that i could do & haven’t yet!)

i told y’all. i told y’all i was gonna go crazy over this post made by @gummy-goat-galaxy
full disclosure i drew literally all of this before looking into the details of the AU so this is 70% my interpretation of his original post but i need to explain my thought process so. here’s the post explaining the details of the actual AU!!! and below is what my brain made up on the spot
ok so belos finds tiny child luz and is like “fuck everyone. this is mine now” and treats her like a goddamn princess. to him, she is a Gift From God to remind him to stay on his Righteous Path. an innocent little girl who is just so bubbly and always tries to see the good in everything, including him. she is a reminder of how Pure and Good humanity is, and seeing as though she’s the literal only human he’s had any contact with besides caleb in 400 fucking years, he is never letting the demon realm corrupt her like it did to him.
she’s basically his Lamb and he the Shepherd, and because he’s so desperate to keep her “““pure”““ he strictly keeps her within the castle and even then not all of the castle is available to her. he keeps her contact with witches to an absolute bare minimum.
he entrusts her protection specifically to hunter, despite the fact he’s only 2 years older. his reasoning is “caleb did a pretty good job raising me so this’ll be fine probably.” when belos himself cannot keep an eye on her, it’s hunter’s job. luz and hunter end up being raised in a sorta similar situation to catra & adora from she-ra but they are actually siblings and not just best friends.
(if u havent seen she-ra, basically its their abusive caretaker creating a golden child + scapegoat dynamic, where one kid can do absolutely no wrong (which doesnt mean they cant still be abused/manipulated!!) while the other kid is blamed for literally everything that goes wrong. the caretaker also regularly pits them against each other to encourage competition & keep the all power in the caretaker’s hands.)
similar to catra & adora, the whole competition thing doesnt really work. luz is just too damn kind and too damn good for hunter to ever resent her, and she’s all he really has. because hunter is the scapegoat, he grows wise to belos’s manipulations WAY sooner. it’s easier to figure out when you’re being mistreated when you literally watch ur guardian treating ur sibling so much better than how they treat u.
unfortunately, because luz cannot help but see the good in absolutely everyone and can be empathetic to a fault, she doesnt realize belos’s game until she ends up sneaking out of the castle. she actually really loves belos and is thankful for him taking her in for a long time. she calls him uncle like hunter, despite belos nudging her towards seeing him as a father bcus he sees her as a pseudo-daughter. (but luz remembers her dad, and has no desire to replace him with someone else no matter how much she cares for belos)
belos does love & adore luz, he would do almost anything to keep her happy and “innocent” and “pure”, but not to the extent that he could still end up redeemed. he still manipulates & subtly emotionally abuses her to keep her in line, but it’s only when she sneaks out and meets eda the owl lady does she start getting clued into this. and once luz learns what belos has done to hunter it’s all fucking over.
hunter loves luz. she is his sister and always will be. but while he’s stuck to belos because of his duties as golden guard, she sees how green the grass is on the other side and doesn’t even hesitate to hop over there. watching her slowly grow more and more distant while she keeps sneaking out to visit with her new friends (eda, king, willow, gus, amity, etc.) is one of the most painful things hunter has had to deal with.
he feels betrayed at first, as if luz is replacing him with other people who arent broken like he is, and when luz actually leaves for good- belos lies to the public and says she was kidnapped- hunter is the one who leads the hunt to find her and bring her back home safely. when they confront each other, luz tries to do her whole dramatic speech about how wrong belos is and how he’s been lying their whole lives, but hunter already knows. the only reason he stayed was for luz, but she couldnt even stay from him? it fuckin hurts man.
they end up on opposite sides for a minute. hunter gains no satisfaction from trying to ruin this new life she’s found for herself but goddamnit, he has a job to do. he cant just defect. and then he defects after watching belos try to kill luz because she’s let herself become corrupted by the witches.
thats about all my brain got for this so far. TL;DR basically just listen to the “first time in forever” and “mother knows best reprise” and “broken crown” by mumford & sons and thats pretty much the gist of it.

When The Cypress Tree Wilts [Yandere!Kamisato Ayato x Reader]
Prompt: Kamisato Ayato, the sole survivor of Teyvat, struggles to cope with grief. He finds solace in the company of a fellow survivor, (Y/n), on the Astral Express. Although the two came from different universes, with him being a fictional character on (Y/n)'s end, he had grown fond of them. Perhaps too fond for Mister Yang's liking. He has seen this story played out once already. [Dedicated to @jessamine-rose]
Content Tags: (light?) yandere themes, major character death, we ain't trusting getting roses again after this one boys
Tumblr media
For twenty-seven years, the cypress tree stood alone. Its branches, exhibiting complete fortitude to withstand erosion, have been a home for many animals. A guardian of many and a home for herons. It's no stretch to say its artistic seriousness made the Cypress tree the Warden of the Forest.
What happens, though, if the forest catches fire? What happens when everything it held dear—all the pillars ingrained in the firmest soil—is reduced to ashes in a single glance? When the forest's life-loving temperament disappears, just what is left of the guardian tree?
There's only one answer: the Cypress loses its Inazuman function. Harmony, balance, and peace wither away from the tree's symbolism. All that's left is the alternative Enkanomiyan myth: cypress trees must only be planted as a mourning tradition.
The Warden of Death...
Kamisato Ayato closed his eyes, making his umpteenth attempt to breathe steadily.
He sat upright on one of the Astral Express's couches. It's been more than eight months since he had found himself as the sole survivor of his world. So far, everything that had been told to him had been unreal.
Gone were the clan, his retainers, and his dearest sister. None were left as he watched their remains swept by the wind. Memories of Ayaka's burnt hair and cheeks crumbling refused to leave his every waking moment. He tried desperately to hold on, but the ashes kept slipping through his fingers until his family's white heron was reduced to a lifeless husk. Her feathers were plucked too soon.
He cannot have her back. He cannot have his clan back. His world was forever unsalvageable.
That was his fate as the Remembrance's souvenir. He can carry the weight of survival while the memokeepers preserve Teyvat's memories.
But at least he has someone in a similar position as himself.
"Mister Yang," you called over the older man hushedly. Welt glanced at the mopping mess and knew just what you were hinting at. Better to alert someone who can assist him better.
"Are you alright, Mister Kamisato?" Welt asked, sitting beside Ayato. He passed his cane onto his other hand so he could pat his shoulder. Ayato only laughed stiffly.
Thankfully, it's not an entirely hopeless cause. There was, at least, a silver lining to make up for it. No matter how dim the glimmer was, he at least had the Express's understanding.
And yours as well.
Tumblr media
Ab███████, h█ed his pl█as.
"—to, you can still think this through!"
"Stand back, Himeko."
Tumblr media
Just like him, you lost your world, too. You came from a fabric of existence wherein he was deemed fictional. A video game called "Genshin Impact", as you called it. You were terrified when you discovered your universe crumbled because of some time-travel paradox. But in spite of your enormous losses, curiosity triumphed over fear. You would prefer exploring the galaxy than thinking about how much work you still need to do for your college classes.
But today? You rest. After all, the express is landing in Penacony.
While Welt did his best to provide consolation, you handed them warm drinks. Ayato gave you a gentle nod.
He gave it a quick sip. Unlike Himeko's, your brew was more tame. Not at all professionally made— it's everyday coffee— but that adds more to its appeal. Ayato politely wiped possible stains near his lips. You can't help but notice how his mole was placed below it.
He's definitely a video game character, that's for sure. They don't make people this attractive in your old world.
Just holding the coffee you made… feeling its warmth in his hands… It gave him strength to speak.
Ayato sighed. "Apologies, I simply… will take longer to recover my mental composure. I am not usually this easy to rattle or ramble often. I deeply apologize for the trouble I caused the express thus far."
"I do wonder if I had wronged the Gods. I committed plenty of misdeeds in the eyes of the Shogun, yet they were pardoned. But perhaps the Heavenly Principles…" He muttered, thinking he was inaudible. More than half a year without his retainers and constant troubles had dulled his vigilance.
Welt shook his head. "Do not be harsh on yourself by culminating these harmful… ideals, Mister Kamisato."
"I agree." You said. "At any rate, you'll end up miserable for the entire month if you keep overthinking what that Silver Wolf said."
His mood had been visibly dampened since Silver Wolf's last visit. She claims that he was "destined for ruin based on Elio's script" and that it was better he knew about it now rather than later.
Ayato looked away. "I suppose so… This wishful thinking brings me nothing but thoughts such as to save my one and only sister, with this pitiable strength— how can I recreate the past?"
Welt grew cold with mild horror. Then, he cleared his throat after a suspiciously long pause.
The past Welt knows is not the past he wants a repeat of.
"Why focus on that when the future awaits you?" He said, but with how the older man refused to meet his lilac eyes, there must be more he won't let on.
"Your reluctance… Does this have something to do with what the memokeeper previously stated?"
"...What Black Swan said?" You tilted your head.
Welt sighed. "So many things must be runnin' around your head... I don't usually encourage drinking, but maybe you should have a few shots later."
"I shall consider it, but I must know now, Mister Yang." He looked at him. "What did she mean when she said I was an alternate version of your acquaintance, Otto Apocalypse?"
Welt coughed up his coffee.

“Your farcical tangents will distract me no more. Do not play parlor tricks with that cane of yours. My mind is sound, and my decision is final."

Ever since Ayato was dubbed as a new Nameless alongside you, he's been bombarded with both blunt and subliminal messages of his supposed "true" nature. One faction agrees he's an existence not meant to be trifled, while the other wants to cultivate him into a villain.
You don't know much about that. Unlike whatever hero's journey he had been experiencing— you're detached from trouble. Your new life was spent writing, dressing up with March, eating with Stelle, and reading through Dan Heng's data banks about constellations & other aesthetically pleasing biological entries. You were a quiet existence. Black Swan remarked you're amicable for someone who cannot return to normalcy. You embrace change far better than others.
But you think that's because there's enough grieving for the Express to carry; they don't have room to acknowledge yours…
"You're Kamisato Ayato, not Otto." You told him firmly. "Don't overthink what she said."
"It is not as if I do not know that, how—"
"No, there are no buts or howevers; that's final."
Ayato laughed softly, no longer tense.
"Understood. I'm your Kamisato Ayato, right?" He tilted his head like a dog.
"Yes, yes, you're our Ayato." You sighed.
He's a lot cuter when relaxed.
You shook your head.
No, better not let this develop into something else. You don't want to have a crush on a guy that's essentially no different from a flatmate.
Furthermore, you exclusively confide in him. You'd rather your relationship as each other's anchor remains the same in the future. After all, you're not the type to let everyone in the room know your baggage. So was Ayato, but... His trauma lends itself to the extremes.
While you were lost in thought, adorable footsteps strutted closer.
Angry, adorable footsteps.
"What are you guys doing drinking coffee?! The train is about to jump soon!!!"
Pompom huffed. They put their little paws on their hips, scoffing at you three. You apologized profusely, forgetting that your trip to Penacony was in ten minutes.
"Sorry, Pompom." Welt sheepishly said.
Ayato looked at Pompom earnestly. "So am I."
"Whatever, okay, but you better change later! You can't join a wedding wearing those clothes!!!"
You frowned. You were already dressed, though. You thought you already looked perfect for the evening. Maybe you should've tried harder... Perhaps you were too relaxed about this...
"Oh, but I'm sorry…" You told them, frowning.
Pompom shook their head, panicking. "Not you, (Y/n), you're always so harsh on yourself— you always know how to dress pretty. I'm talking about these two boys!"
They stared at each other before laughing awkwardly, provoking the conductor further.
Pompom growled, grabbing the broom.
"You know what?! Get off the sofa! Change! NOW!!!"

Tumblr media
It's clear that someone isn't having the best time.
Penacony weddings are too lively for Ayato's tastes. But much like shadows, nobody can evade the bright lights.
He nearly tumbled when he saw you. By the looks of his pale face, the lively atmosphere had been draining him senseless. While he maintained his elegant demeanor when talking to Aventurine (and failing), you were refilling your cup at the food aisle. Once Ayato reached you, he desperately wanted to place his head on your shoulder.
“Please… lend me… Five…”
You smiled and opened your arms.
"Don't speak, I got you."
He leaned on your shoulder.
The five seconds you assumed were startlingly morphing into five minutes. You can't feign as a warm statue for that long. While you worry about your willpower, Ayato sank deeper into his thoughts to meditate.
From this angle, he looked like a resting cat.
"You okay, Ayato?"
"The SoulGlad, it's so…"
Ah, right. You figured he might've drunk.
"Not once had it been a passing thought that excessive alcohol and fire displays would be a common wedding practice. The culture shock is astounding." Ayato leered quietly. "Thankfully, I no longer care about putting on a social mask. I cannot stomach participating in copious amounts of… festivities."
You laughed. Is it bad you find his suffering entertaining?
"Is it so different from how they conduct weddings in Inazuma?"
"Hard to say… The Clan may be focused on cultural ceremonies, but I purposely avoided weddings. It helps steer clear talks of arranged marriages. I can only name Chisato's as an exception on top of my head." Ayato placed a hand on his chin.
He continued. "Extravagant weddings such as this had a decline for two years. The dismal lives of vision wielders immensely affected how much pyrotechnics and other displays were available. Any commonplace joy could be marked as vulgarity by the Shogun at any second... All those charges just for an insincere ceremony."
"I… See." You assumed the answer was a resounding no. "Sounds like you're against marriages of convenience."
Ayato pulled away, looking at you.
"Not entirely. I understand why it's a necessary evil, given our politics." He said. "But I still firmly believe that when there's true love, nothing should stand in its way."
His eyes reveal that he's starting to sober up. In Penacony, it was probably a beneficial phenomenon. Might as well give away hangover relief if you market alcohol as the icon of your dreamscape.
"(Y/n), this may sound peculiar, but I glimpsed at an apparel store nearby."
You nodded slightly. He knew you had an affinity for fashion. When you visited the Xianzhou Luofu, he mapped out stores that might interest you. Ayato likes the way you dress. Sometimes, he would even approach you for a consult.
"And? What did you see? Did you take a picture?"
He groggily nodded and pulled out his phone.
"Please, take a look."
You blinked, turning red.
"Ayato, these are wedding dresses…"
"I do know that, yes, but don't you believe some of these would suit you? Oh— this one is a particular favorite of mine."
He said it so casually that you were beginning to doubt if you were insane. Do friends casually daydream about another friend in a wedding dress? Is that a norm for platonic relationships? You looked away and gently pushed his phone away.
… You hate how you liked what he picked out.
And you know he noticed it, too. Cheeky bastard.
"Let's hold that thought for now."
"May I ask why?" He tilted his head, slightly pouting. "I think a traditional white wedding dress would compliment you. Are you, perhaps, seeing flaws I have missed?"
"Y-You're really not getting it, huh…"
Whatever was troubling you, he wasn't about to dissect it. His thoughts were reduced to simplicity that evening, just down to you look gorgeous tonight. The two of you should extend your visit to Penacony for much longer. It is always night here…
How unfair that you dressed so prettily; he wished it was for his eyes alone. The delicately lace-adorned pastel pink dress suits you well. It felt like a grave sin for him to keep staring at the delicate sapphire necklace resting atop your neck. Not to add, a few strands of your hair framed your face, and your hair was tastefully swept into a neat (h/c) bun. What completes the look is the strappy heels.
When will it be your wedding, (Y/n)?
Your face contorted. "How drunk are you?"
Ayato smirked curtly and shrugged back to what March calls his "nobleman smile", gazing at you intently. You weren't sure if he was listening to you anymore.
"Enough."
That was his reply, short and simple.
As long as your eyes mirror his, it's enough for him.
“LAAADDIEESSS AND GENTLEEEMEEENNN AND OTHER LIVING CREAAATURREEESSS!!!!”
A rather shrill voice shouted through a microphone. It's the wedding's host. From the volume, anyone can discern that it came from the event room. You placed your cup down. It's that time— noises from excited guests, lonesome people, in particular, were shared around. No one can miss their hands, which tremble with excitement.
You jolted.
Shit, that's Sparkle. You promised Stelle and March that you four would take BFF pictures in the costume photo booth before the final farewells. Something about silly masks and hats. Miss it, and you're guaranteed to enter the next fight without a shield. Worse, you might wake up with a bat-shaped wound on your head.
You grabbed Ayato and swerved past the crowd.
“(Y-(Y/n)?!”
Ayato's mind went blank.
You voluntarily held his hand. Gloved hands. Still, he thanked March that she gave him a pair for the occasion. His hands were sweating, and his cheeks were flushed with embarrassment.
Public displays of affection are generally subdued in his old world. Handholding raises questions regarding those reared into nobility like he was. His upbringing was far from liberal, so he did his best to give his sister more freedom, yet he is not accustomed to this skinship.
He gripped yours back weakly. Ayato can't stop staring at your determined expression. He gulped. Can you sense it? Are you secretly enjoying this? Do you know what you're doing?
Can you feel your effect on him?
He's not just drunk.
He might be hopelessly in love with you.
Ayato grew hotter by the second. His breath was stripping away bit by bit. This epiphany was consuming him. He's been trying to deny it for as long as possible, but how laughable is it to do so when he had often pictured himself in peaceful household situations beside you? Can such desires be kept in the shadows, much like his Shuumatsuban work?
He wants you.
Kamisato Ayato wants you as his sole partner.
Wherever you're taking him, he'll follow you to the end, down to the last seconds of this script.
"THE BRIDE IS ABOUT TO THROW THE BOUQUET!!!"
Many lonely guests packed together like penguins. When the bride spun the bouquet around her palm, their reactions ranged from hopeful and cheerful to downright competitive and miserable. They thought a few flowers would ensure marriage, which is a little absurd, but who are you to spoil their fun? Simply because they obstruct your path does not warrant your discreet resentment—
Ayato stopped, halting you as well in the process.
"Ngh…?!"
You looked back, and such an act almost felt as forbidden as Orpheus' most egregious mistake.
If there was a semblance of variety in those women's faces, they were unified in one fell swoop. Their faces soured when the bouquet was passed down to its next owner. Worse, the flowers sat so beautifully in his arms.
That's right. His.
Those red roses…
"AALLLLRIIIIGHTTT! IT SEEMS MISTER KAMISATO GOT IT!!!" Sparkle cheered on. She had a crooked smile on her face. It didn't ring as malicious; instead, she was conflicted before she donned a playful mask. "And sheesh, while holding (Y/n) 's hand too— CONGRATS TO THE SOON-TO-BE-S!!!"
Ah, damn it. Instead of this, you wish people had applauded when you presented your thesis. No matter how crestfallen some were, they were at least good sports. They clapped and teased; you even spotted Himeko raising you a glass at your shared table, laughing. Beside her, Welt did you the courtesy of reminding you that you're hands were linked together. You gawked, pulling away as though Ayato's hand burned. Immediately, he cleared his throat and looked away.
To Ayato, this was the only sign he needed.
With enough time and effort, a leafless tree could still be saved, new birds could still migrate, and an abandoned forest could still be restored. Gradually, he was discovering a fresh cause for optimism instead of a substitute for the people he had lost. There he was, Kamisato Ayato, a hidden custodian of Inazuman traditions, with his feet rooted in a foreign land. Though not very stable, his groundwork keeps him on course.
If he could revive the Kamisato Clan on its brink, how can he not do the same for his life? It's just like what his late father said:
Fall down seven times, stand up eight.
As long as a hand still reaches out for him, he'll do anything to grasp it.
Unfortunately for you, it was yours that held his so tightly.
Hence, whether you like it or not, amidst the guests' congratulatory remarks and the bride's laughs, he had made up his mind.
Ayato will pursue you until you wear the gown of his dreams.
More people trailed behind Sparkle and the bride as they went down the stage and to Ayato. You made an effort to get in touch with him to return to your starting point. However, it was challenging, given the number of people around. To hear what bashful comments he said was an even taller order.
That was until the bride dragged her new husband towards you.
"Here, dearie, the garter!"
You blinked.
"What?"
"You know the tradition, bouquet, and garter— I know it ain't as exciting as a bouquet, but ya can't be a pair without it." The husband grinned. "C'mon, take it!"
Your eyes widened.
"Oh no, I couldn't possibly—"
"Aww, please, do you think we'll get in the way of love when we just got married?" The bride joked. Even though you don't know her well—you just know she's Stelle's friend—you didn't like how this sounded. "C'mon, take it! Don't make poor Mister Kamisato sad."
Did Ayato request this?
You looked back at him. He was smiling at his fellow guests.
He must've made a drunken joke.
"Alright, I'll have it." You'll be a team player, too.
Unbeknownst to you, Ayato's heart was brimming with joy as soon as you accepted it. You twisted the garter around your hand and tied it into a bracelet, and his eyes wrinkled. His face was beaming, and the guests warmly pointed out that it was definitely NOT the drink.
You laughed softly.
Maybe Stelle wouldn't get too angry after she sees these "loots".
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, unlike the worlds you once immersed yourself in, your life was not a game. This second try was no exception.
There's a stark difference between the people he loves and himself, Ayato later found. The latter cannot sustain a better life for those he warded, while the former cannot attain the luxury of a peaceful death.
Readers would have gone crazy over how the author mercilessly punished and blamed the main character's dreams if his life had been a work of fiction. If it were genuinely one, he would venture to say that the systematic fate that everyone else was subjected to is the primary criticism.
His mother, his father, his sister, his clan.
And then you?
Ayato had already lost everything twice.
There's no restraint left for him to hold on to.
So…
"Mister Kamisato, please hear us out!" March begged, the shrill of her voice becoming hauntingly akin to a dull knife— repeatedly cutting through ears in prolonged agony.
Ayato scoffed. His blue locks framed his face as he gazed down.
He's heard enough.
Why shouldn't he challenge his fate?
Why shouldn't he challenge Elio's script?
"Whether I permit you or not, there won't be an intelligent word out of you."
No other voice came to disparage him. This silence was loud. As if a voice was missing. Ayato looked at the ground.
He had almost forgotten he had used his former "brother" as a sacrifice. Silently, he thanked Dan Heng- or perhaps Dan Feng- for all that he had done for him and his "bride".
This act angered the rest. His temporary family brandished theirs in unison, with Stelle moving to the front. His response greatly saddened March. But Mister Yang? He was frozen. He didn't seem to move an inch. The older man looked deep into his lilac eyes. There must be more he won't let on.
The past Welt knows is not the past he wants a repeat of.
But unfortunately, history is a vicious cycle— and it repeats itself.
He materialized his haran geppaku futsu, letting Dan Heng's blood drip while its azure glow shine bright. But what shone brighter was the cryogenic "coffin" behind him.
You may have lost your battle with this curse, but you have helped him not lose his.
You were looking out at a night with a full moon in your last moments. The pitch-black moon seemed to loom life itself. As you strolled alone, every step wet your feet, but there's a persistent sense that you might have been staring at your reflection the entire time despite the void's lack of offerings.
It's always night in Penacony. You have heard that innumerable times. Night never sleeps. The chitchat never stops. The tango doesn't halt. But time stands still for you as the rest of the world rejoices.
But Penacony was not your resting place. It was the Xianzhou.
How unfortunate that you forget that in your last moments. Mara has a knack for erasing the memory of its victims. The only solace that your admirer gets is that your previous recollections are of him, of you, and of the bouquet and garter you received.
At least before you closed your eyes, you thought of him.
Ayato gazed at your mara-struck face once more.
Beauty is eternal. Despite the chill seeping into your bones, your clothes were nothing short of ethereal. A traditional white wedding dress, floor-length with a fitted bodice and a flowing skirt, would've been given more justice if the wearer was not frozen in time. The laces and beadwork detailing were reminiscent of sakura petals, with a sweetheart neckline and cap sleeves.
You're holding a bouquet of roses mixed with sakura...
Just like you, Kamisato Ayato always had a good eye for aesthetics.
It's a shame the little life left in his eyes was wilting away.
It's a shame that this wedding never happened.
It's a shame you told him you needed more time to think.
It's a shame you're frozen in time.
However...
As long as a hand still reaches out for him, he'll do anything to grasp it. And Yaoshi has plenty to reach for.
With that, using the blood of the Vidyadhara he had slain, he summoned his new Aeon.
One that he does not particularly believe in. And if he had never placed his blind faith in the Shogun, he doubts he would do the same in Yaoshi.
So, Aeon of Abundance, with the former High Elder's blood on his hands...
Prove him wrong.
"Abundance, heed my pleas,
Repay my anguished cries.
Abundance, stir this bereft peace,
Awaken love from death's disguise."
Bring his soon-to-be Kamisato (Y/n) back to him.

Stellaris!40k
composed with some help from @stygiantechpriest
Stellaris and 40k exist on a continuum. they are extremely similar sci-fi, and when viewed from the right angle, essentially the same galaxy.
Stellaris has a theme of galactic cycles of civilizations rising, thriving, falling. 40k has gone through one and a half or two cycles, with the first being that of the Old Ones and necron(tyr), the second-ish being what came after. There are implications that the fall of the Imperium would be the last cycle of the galaxy, which could not be recovered from to see new civilizations rise. Stellaris is also similar to 40k in that it dwells on the inevitable destruction of all things (the galaxy is littered with the ruins of past peoples), and that using the Shroud canonically enlarges the black hole in the center of the galaxy, thereby incrementally hastening entropic decay – at the same time, Stellaris is tonally opposite from 40k, remaining generally uplifting and looking upon everything interesting and fun that can happen in the meantime. Evil can be defeated and the galaxy can enter an era of peace, although it will inevitably end – but so will every cruel despotic regime and every age of terror and destruction. 40K too contemplates inevitable doom and the fall of empires, but from a more defeatist, hopeless perspective.
according to in-game dates, all precursors except the Zroni would have existed between the War In Heaven and setting present. It is possible they were one of the first spacefaring empires in this galaxy, which would potentially make them billions of years old, but they were almost certainly the first to learn how to use the Shroud, equivalent in every meaningful sense to the Warp. The Immaterium already existing implies that there had been many sapient lifeforms whose emotions, thoughts and beliefs could be reflected into a mirror realm before the Zroni started using it. Astral planes accessed through rifts are not the Shroud, and are likely alternate dimensions and timelines overlapping in a point with this reality (as with the dimensional portal that can appear on a colony).
Current factions
the eldar acted as a Fallen Empire between sometime after the end of the War In Heaven and creation of Slaanesh – immensely powerful and influential, but societally, technologically and territorially stagnant. Since DAoT humanity spread all across the galaxy, the eldar empire did not occupy a particularly large region of space. They served as the galaxy’s peacekeepers and would have responded to significant enough threats, such as the Cybrex. The eldar empire resembles a mix between the Holy Guardians and Enigmatic Observers (spiritualist and xenophile fallen empires). It is possible there were more Old Ones-aligned survivors of the War In Heaven who would have been other Fallen Empires (including the Ancient Caretakers), but they faded and died many millenia before humanity’s interstellar age.
the Imperium, in practice, is a Fanatic Purifier empire with the Remnants origin (fanatic xenophobe-militarist in M31, fanatic xenophobe-spiritualist in M42); it only seems not unusual among other galactic polities because this cycle is so grim and because it is the most widespread-by-territory civilization of its time. The Mechanicum was obviously a Cybernetic Creed civilization who cybernetically ascended early in their history, and continue to terraform perfectly lush planets into their preferred climate of „radioactive desert” to this day; they are certainly spiritualist, with the other ethic(s) being authoritarian, xenophobe or militarist (as a reminder, xenophobia does not preclude one from doing archaeology or studying aliens, but from giving them citizenship and allowing them on the ruling council). The Leagues of Votann are sufficiently evolved salvager enclaves.
orks are 40k’s equivalent to marauders, and their „Great Khans” are leaders of powerful waaagh!s who unite disparate ork clans and bands to wage war. Much less likely to take on satrapies, though. The dark eldar are more similar to pirates without the Apocalypse dlc, and to Unbidden who do not seek to consume the galaxy. The AI personality of the tau would be hegemonic imperialists, and their ethics xenophile-materialist-authoritarian. They are the only major faction in 40k who act as a normal Stellaris empire. If the necron start a large-scale conflict with the eldar, they will have a Stellaris War In Heaven, although the necron were not an active Fallen Empire – they just Awakened and got back to work. Unlike Stellaris Fallen Empires, they and the eldar are rife with internal division.
the various empire-less space creatures such as guardians, mining drones, crystalline entities and the like are diminished in number from a greater level of danger in the galaxy, if not utterly extinct. in addition, if the hyperlane network has been compromised or destroyed, organic space entities may not be able to travel between systems. however, as „void whales” are known to exist in the present of 40k, other species of migratory cosmic beings may have evolved the ability to move through the Warp instead. guardians, who mostly inhabit a single star system, are still likely to lurk in the dark corners of the galaxy - especially psionic avatars - daemonlike psykic emanations who have emerged into realspace in a stable form.
FTL travel
the nature of hyperlanes in Stellaris is not elaborated on; nonetheless, it is theoretically possible that the Webway, a dimension between both the Warp and the Materium, is a hyperlane network. However, in Stellaris, hyperlanes are not believed to be a separate pocket dimension capable of housing cities and libraries; nor are they accessed through gates, but connect systems naturally. Curiously, the event popup for space storms speculates that they are caused by increased use of the hyperlane network, and would eventually lead to its collapse and destruction. This explains the lack of hyperspace travel in the current cycle; perhaps the Webway was a Old Ones attempt to construct an artificial replacement to the hyperlane network. It is also possible that the hyperlanes eventually reappear again, or recover sufficiently to allow hyperspeed travel; the lack of hyper drives in 40k may be additionally caused by the fragmented and decayed hyperlanes not being easily detectable and observable, thus giving few interstellar polities the opportunity to develop the technology to traverse them.
Jump Drives and Warp Drives are not the same – Jump Drives do not use the Shroud, and instead shortcut through the dimension inhabited by the Unbidden, or somewhere extremely close in the multiverse. They are not a safe method of travel, and have cooldown periods between uses, but they seem superior to Warp Drives, which take one on a trip through hell. It is unclear why more civilizations have not developed Jump Drives – Warp Drives seem to be a simpler and baser technology, and in this tumultuous time, civilizations may simply not last long enough or develop far enough scientifically to have the opportunity of researching an alternate method of FTL travel. It is also possible that most polities simply believe that Warp travel is the be-all-end-all of interstellar transportation, and never think to study alternate methods of propulsion in the confidence that there simply isn’t anything better.
Deities
The four Shroud gods are either versions of Chaos/the same idea from a previous cycle, or they are alternate names for the Chaos Gods (daemons are Shroud Avatars). As the Shroud quartet seem less dangerous and actively malevolent than Chaos, if these are the same entities, the the Shroud gods were the Four at a time when the Warp was less turbulent and the galaxy’s turmoil had not empowered Chaos (and potentially rendered them even more cruel than before by way of creating more pain for the Warp to reflect). The presence of the Instrument of Desire/Slaanesh can be explained by seeing it as a „postulant-entity”: a being in the Warp which had begun to form, as some prerequisite for its future creation had been fulfilled, but which yet lacked the power it would achieve, the will and autonomy to act in its full capacity, and the ability to spread its influence independently. It is possible the other three Chaos Gods existed in „postulant” form for some time during – or even after – the War In Heaven.
The End of The Cycle is an entity of the theorized ’Deep Warp’ which even the Chaos Gods are wary of (see Tzeentch sending Kairos down the Well of Eternity instead of taking a peek itself), and is a crucial part of the galaxy’s cycles – ’clearing the slate’ for new life to emerge, as its ghosts eventually dissipate, and/or its defeat happens at a cataclysmic cost. It is noticeably more powerful than Chaos as a whole, and it does not strictly need or desire worship – its concept is entropy, the inevitable end, and it has consumed countless species and empires over dozens of cycles.
The restoration of free will to the necron may somehow interact with the Animator of Clay’s work – especially if some necron who got the ability to think for themselves weren’t meant to. The Animator itself is a relatively benign Warp-entity concerned with giving robots free will and self-determination, but amoral in that it does not care overmuch what they do with that free will.
The Worm-In-Waiting is a C’Tan related to gravity and cyclical time, as well as to the mortal concept of „attachment”(note that it manifests as a Dimensional Horror, not a Shroud avatar). It is much friendlier to lesser beings than other C’Tan, and did not participate in deceiving the necrontyr. It is not aligned with other C’Tan, and is probably operating close to or at its full power – however, it seems trapped in a pocket dimension of some sort, or otherwise impeded when manifesting in realspace. When an empire accepts the Worm, it devours their star as a C’Tan would – turning it into a black hole with its unique brand of spacetime powers (other C’Tan may or may not be able to do this, but most wouldn’t have a reason to either way).
Dimensional Horrors may be shards of the Worm-In-Waiting. Alternatively, they may be a lesser type of being of the same reality-bending nature as the C’Tan, or either ’failed’ C’Tan who could not ascend to full strength (perhaps that is why they are found around black holes – they consumed a star, but it wasn’t enough), or ’juvenile’ C’Tan who are still young. The Elder One is a particularly powerful individual of this group (could it have gained power from having had followers previously – as a C’Tan-like entity, likely from their souls and not their prayers), and seems to act somewhat similar to the Worm-In-Waiting.
Crises
the Contingency is as it is in Stellaris: an ancient machine intelligence seeded a billion years ago in this galaxy and several others to watch for and prevent a Class-30 Singularity. It is unclear what this is [or whether the Contingency itself is entirely certain what falls under these parameters], and thus it cannot be said one way or another whether the Contingency is still dormant in M42, or if it has been destroyed in a previous cycle.
the Unbidden (and the non-hostile Formless) exist in a wholly different dimension (notably, not the Shroud/Warp), and occasionally invade this galaxy – or, possibly, several galaxies – to feast on the essences of its inhabitants. As Jump Drives work by traveling in or near the home dimension of the Unbidden, and there do not seem to be many Jump Drive-using groups in the galaxy at present, it is not particularly likely that the Unbidden’s attention is drawn there. Furthermore, the Unbidden know of the Shroud and have some deal of respect for its dangerous nature – thus, the widespread corruption of Chaos and weakening of realspace may actually repel the Unbidden and make them unwilling to enter such a „tainted” plane of existence.
the Prethoryn Scourge resemble the tyranid greatly; however, they are confirmed to be fleeing a (formerly?) greater threat, and their hive mind’s subentities (specifically, brood-queens) seem to possess a greater deal of autonomy and closer-to-human thinking than tyranid norn-queens or other bioforms of high independence and sapience. Furthermore, a key difference between the two galaxy-consuming hive minds is that the Prethoryn do not have a genestealer equivalent; they seem to be generally less threatening, less adaptive and less numerous than the tyranid. The exact relation between the two species is unclear; they could be two divergently-evolved descendants of the same hive mind, the tyranid could have devoured the Prethoryn and absorbed their genetic material into the more dangerous hive mind, the presence of two extragalactic roaming Devouring Swarms could be a sign that this is a reasonably common evolutionary path or imply something about hive minds, the tyranid could be a hive mind who outcompeted the Prethoryn and became the Hunters who eclipsed their home galaxy (demonstrating the capability to devour light, if not stars themselves, as the final form of their infestation) and have since moved on to other feeding grounds – or, they may be the same species. The Prethoryn Scourge ended one galactic cycle by devouring all worlds of biomass, then continued their flight, evolving over millenia into forms more and more perfected for consumption of worlds. Eventually, new life emerged in the Milky Way, and eventually, the Scourge – now no longer running, but hunting – was lured back, and returned as the tyranid swarm.
the Synthetic Queen may remain imprisoned, or have already been defeated in a previous cycle. Alternatively, she may have already devolved the galaxy into nonsapience at least once, and left it or returned to isolation. Her return might not even be predicted by the eldar or necron, especially if Zarqlan was not known to the Old Ones. Since no major factions in 40k are believed to have wide-ranging knowledge on or experience with nanites (aside from what seems to be a single cult within the Mechanicus, some necron technologies, and occasionally seen used by the tau), she could be a true outside-context problem for the current galactic cycle – even moreso than the tyranid, as the Great Devourer commands carbon-based organic drones. However, the growing encroachment of the Warp on the Materium would give the Animator of Clay more opportunities to warn the residents of the galaxy, should it choose to.
as no Gateways are known to exist in the galaxy, the state of the L-Cluster cannot be determined. Furthermore, should one be discovered, there would likely be insufficient context and insights to activate it once more
the status of the Ithome Cluster and its residents cannot be determined. However, they may be wise enough to realize that invading the galaxy at present is a doomed endeavor – and the galaxy mostly very awful to inhabit – and are staying put behind their wormhole, Fanatic Purifier ambitions on hold. That would make them, shockingly, more rational than the Imperium, who did try to conquer the galaxy, and have been painfully rotting for millenia since. It could just as easily be that the Chosen were defeated in this cycle or a previous one.
whatever knowledge is required to perform Cosmogenesis or become Galactic Nemesis (that path, in particular, seems almost like a memetic hazard occasionally infecting random empires susceptible to its lure) is likely not present in the current day of the galaxy – if it survived previous cycles, the idea of „Galactic Nemesis” has been viciously suppressed by the Old Ones/eldar, and no known empire (save, perhaps, the fra’al) has both willingness and tech level to attempt to escape to another universe (which, in 40k, is a far more reasonable and understandable proposition, considering how everything is circling the drain already). Thus, it is not known how likely it is for any empire to attempt these crisis paths in the current cycle.
Entities existing in previous galactic cycles
The End of The Cycle, the Zroni, the Contingency (and their creators), the Unbidden and Formless depending on how time flows between this reality and theirs, potentially Cetana the Synthetic Queen and thus the prophet Zarqlan, the C’Tan and the Worm-In-Waiting, the Shroud four if and only if they are not the same as the current Chaos Gods, the observers of Ultima Vigilis, potentially the Animator of Clay, Prethoryn Scourge if considered a separate faction from the Tyranids, potentially the Chosen

don’t forget to do your daily clicks! in addition to palestinian support and relief, there are so many other causes that arab.org has to support. i know esp as a minor without a solid banking situation that it can be easy to feel helpless when you can’t donate, but this is something meaningful without having to pay money that truly makes a difference!

Star Trek Prodigy Season 2 thoughts
This show is everything I love about Star Trek. It may be produced by Nickelodeon, but it doesn't dumb anything down just because it's "for kids." I love how none of the main characters are humans, which not only takes advantage of being animated to give us cool alien designs, but also acts as a great visual for Starfleet's ideals. It's visually stunning and the writing is superb. It gives a season-spanning story while also making time for those wacky space shenanigans we expect from the franchise. It's funny, it's creative, it's heartfelt, it's emotionally powerful. The season finales for both the first and second season had me in tears.
Aside from adding to the chorus begging people to watch season 2, I'm just going to share some thoughts on this season. I tried so hard to watch it slowly but it's easy to binge. I'm now watching through it a second time. Cut for spoilers.
As a fan of the older Trek shows, I love how much the show clearly loves older Trek. We saw it a lot in season one, but since season 2 has the legacy characters in more prominent focus, it's more obvious. They are written with such loving care, every part of who they are is nailed down perfectly. There are so many callbacks and references and small touches that are scattered in the dialogue and visuals. Amazing Easter Eggs for Trek enthusiasts-- and another reason to go back and watch, to find ones you didn't notice!
This season made me much more interested in Chakotay and Wesley as characters. I was pretty ambivalent toward them both when watching their respective shows. I didn't find Wesley annoying, I just didn't care for him one way or the other. So having him return as this slightly unhinged Time Lord made him so much more appealing to me as a character. The fact that he was willing to go to some extreme lengths in order to get the timeline just right was some fun gray morality. I also liked that he seemed like he wasn't always sure when he was in the timeline. It reminded me of Mantis in the Guardians of the Galaxy game. And that made perfect sense coming from someone who could jump through multiple timelines just through thought. Wesley was complex, intriguing, and I'm so glad for him and his actor. He deserved it.
In a similar vein, Chakotay was one of the least interesting Voyager crew members to me. This isn't necessarily his fault. He was going up against some pretty big personalities, like the Doctor, Tom, B'Elanna, Seven, and Janeway. I also don't think the writers really knew what to do with his character. But again Prodigy wrote in some depth and complexity. They actually identified what tribe he was from. Watching the episode where the Protostar crew finds him made me want to write fanfic about Chakotay. That's how good they were at making this guy interesting for me! I loved seeing his slow descent into isolation and bitterness; I loved how almost insecure he was at times; I loved how he took command and led the crew. I'm a fan now and I want to go back to watch Voyager for him.
The season also made me a Janeway/Chakotay shipper. I saw the episodes in Voyager where they were feeling things, but personally I'm glad that they never crossed that line. There are way too many stories with female leads that act like they have an obligation to give her a romance, when the same would not be true if the lead was a male. In my opinion, it was better there was no definite love story for Janeway on Voyager since that was going against expectations. As Prodigy season two told its story, I was definitely picking up on strong love vibes between Chakotay and Janeway. I was convinced they were separated lovers, and when they were together they couldn't keep their eyes or hands off each other. It was excellent visual storytelling. I wanted them to be together at the end. For someone who didn't ship them before (I was more into Tom/B'Elanna), I'd say that's a big achievement for the show.
To sum up, I love this show so much! My only request is they try to incorporate Deep Space Nine somehow. #SetCoordinatesforSeason3

Akari is such a menace to everyone. What is their relationship with the Clans, leader and wardens ?
So Akari's relationship to the clans and Wardens are pretty similar to in game– they're on really good terms. The clans aren't exactly a fan of Galaxy Team, they just tolerate them because they haven't really expanded their settlement. But Akari is a kid, and one who can handle pokemon really well, so is thought very highly of.
They're kind of wary at first because outsider, but once the whole quell the nobles thing comes into play, Akari is very highly thought of to the clans. Irida and Adaman in particular really value their friendship with them, considering they are both young themselves with a lot of responsibility as clan leaders on their shoulders.
For Wardens, Akari gets on really well with Lian and Sabi since they're pretty close in age, but the ones they interact with the most are Azeru, Mai and Ingo. I picture Azeru and Mai around the same age as Irida and Adaman, maybe slightly older, so they're happy to interact with Akari and Rei. Also Azeru has many ideas for that two toned hair.
Ingo is a given because they both are skyfallers, so Akari and him are close. I picture Ingo as being very good with kids, so he's already pretty good with Lian. Akari and him just click (it's probably the shared autism.) Akari also really looks up to Ingo because he is such a strong trainer, but his outlook on battles, on winning and losing are so positive and encouraging. So Ingo is essentially the healthy adult role model who guides them. He is who Akari aspires to be like. I genuinely think that Indigo Disk downward spiral could have been avoided if some adult was there modeling good behavior. I love Carmine but like, not really surprised Kieran fell off like that with how he was infantilized so much by his family. It was totally unintentional but yeah. Kid needed someone older than the age of 13 to say "Woah you lost, that's amazing! You did so good! Challenge me again because this was so much fun."
Low-key Laventon and Ingo are Akari's dads in this. They are the Adults in the room trying to make sure this tiny human isn't ruined.
I don't really know how to label their relationship. He's a male role model but not necessarily a parent, though when they do get back to their time, Ingo (and as a result Emmet) do offer to take Akari in as guardians when nobody can find any family initially for them.
But yeah they get on well with the Wardens since unlike regular people Wardens tend to have a pretty close relationship with not just their Noble, but pokemon in general. They work together with them to serve and protect their Nobles. So Akari being a decent trainer who likes to befriend pokemon, they get along well.

writeblr intro

hello, everyone! I'm njsa (she/her), a 22 year old university student from australia, currently studying a bachelor's degree in space science. I'm returning to writeblr with more inspiration and dedication to sharing my writing projects. A bit more about me can be found here. On this blog, I'll be posting anything to do with writing, including worldbuilding and inspo boards, as well as other writeblrs and writing projects! I won't be participating in tag games, so please don't tag me in them. Feel free to ask me questions, I'll try to respond as soon as I can. I would prefer it if only those who are 18+ follow my blog, as some of my works may contain mature themes. None of my posts will contain explicit content. All of my novels will be labelled as adult fiction.
Tumblr media
about my writing
𓆩⟡𓆪
All of my writing projects (at this point in time) are contained within a single fictional universe, VESSEL. Majority of my works are high fantasy, with a dash of science fiction, (space) western and southern (australian) gothic. My goal is to publish my novels as serials. Eventually, I'd like to turn these into physical books once completed, though I'll aim to always have the serials available on my website (to be released) for free ✧

Vessel is the story that started it all - my magnum opus. This is a high fantasy series that expands across the galaxy. It is a progression fantasy with extensive worldbuilding, political intrigue, magic, other-world species and so much more. It is the origin and main focus of my writing; all of my other novels surround it. This epic follows Brynas, a girl born on Earth, and her path to becoming a legend known throughout the galaxy as she discovers her true calling. Inspirations and similar stories: game of thrones, cosmere, dune, star wars and heavy inspiration from retro-futuristic, space-surrealist aesthetics.
𓆩⟡𓆪
Tumblr media
Snake Oil is a prequel story to the Vessel series, and the first novel I intend on publishing. It is set on Earth in the late 19th century and is an Australian gothic, mystery novel. At the moment, it contains three POVs. An elite academy in the Irish countryside discovers, once closure procedures commence, that three of their students have been missing for over a decade. Reinforcements are called to investigate. ~ A constable stationed in the Australian high country is tasked with transcribing police reports. People grow restless over the lack of action taken by law enforcement on the mysterious disappearances of fellow townsfolk. When a group of locals decide to take matters into their own hands, he volunteers. ~ Deep within the Australian mountain ranges is a village unknown to the outside world. A girl with peculiar abilities begins to question her faith when strange visions plague her mind, and the comforting security she felt as a child begins to unravel as she enters adulthood. Inspirations and similar stories: picnic at hanging rock, ethel cain (music), immaculate (movie), sour switchblade - elita (song).
𓆩⟡𓆪
Tumblr media
Rogue Frontier is a story that runs alongside Vessel. It is a space western that is, at the moment, only an idea with a few scenes, though the main cast is well established. Genuinely only came up with this idea because I crave found family stories. A comedic space western that follows the adventures of a bounty crew that are begrudgingly forced to work together under an anonymous boss. Over time, they learn that the promise of riches isn't the only thing keeping the crew from falling apart. Inspirations and similar stories: guardians of the galaxy, cowboy bebop, wayfarers series, rogue one, oingo boingo's music (the entire dead man's party album) and 80's music in general.
If you'd like to be added to the tag list of any of these stories, let me know!

I have a side blog dedicated to my writing projects, @vesselserial Here, you can read more information about VESSEL and keep up with my progress. I also have a general blog / studyblr @dunedreamr, where I'll be posting my progress in completing my bachelor's degree (and future career pathways) as well as other interests that I have, like books, movies e.t.c.

An ice giant on the outer fringes of the system, Anchorage IV has a planet-wide biome similar to the northern reaches of Earth’s Canada or Alaska, interspersed with vast frozen seas and snow-blasted mountains. Beneath its glacial flows, pockets of a natural gas known as Promine - a potent fuel - provide for the planet’s economy. As gouts of the pressurised gas burst from the land, they freeze almost instantly in the sub-zero atmosphere, forming jagged monolithic columns rich with liquid fuel. These are prime for a lucrative, if not incredibly dangerous extraction and fuel has long overtaken the planet’s tradition of trawler fishing as the main industry.

ORBITAL BLUES is a lo-fi space western roleplaying game from SoulMuppet Publishing, written by Sam Sleney & Zachary Cox and illustrated by Joshua Clark. A love-letter to off-beat sci-fi, vintage music, and cooperative old-school styled roleplay, Orbital Blues allows you to play out rules-light tabletop adventures in the style of space westerns such as Cowboy Bebop, Firefly and Guardians of the Galaxy.

so this is kind of tin foily but in a twitter post by matt goldman he comments on art featuring solas and “a mysterious V…. archer!” (maybe the same one from the 2020 cinematic trailer??). now that we know the new title, could the “V…..” stand for Veilguard perhaps?? 👀
Ohh yeah, I remember that tweet! 😁 Actually, I think, at the time, people were speculating that, going by the number of "dots" used in the tweet, he was actually hinting at Veilfire Archer! And yes, like you said, we also thought he was referring to the people with the magical bow from the 2020 teaser and the concept art!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we got introduced to the faction called the Veil Jumpers in the The Missing comics, which seemed to all but confirm that these have to be the same people, judging by their design.
Tumblr media
So... was Matt Goldman actually referring to the Veil Jumpers in the tweet? Maybe Veilfire Archer is sort of a "subclass" from the Veil Jumpers? Or maybe they just hadn't settled on a name at that point and throughout development "Veilfire Archer" turned into "Veil Jumper"? lol
But yeah, it is kinda strange that we now also have the Veilguard thrown into the mix as well. 😂 I imagine it would be kinda awkward if we "the Veilguard" were to meet the Veil Jumpers in-game and they're like "Guys, pick another name, it's way too similar to ours!" lol We never really got a sense of why they're even called Veil Jumpers in the comics, aside from how they were able to, quote, "contain the threat of the chaos that reigns over the Arlathan Forest"/dealing with the way the Veil is acting up in that place specifically?
It's strongly hinted that the Veil Jumpers are one of four(?) potential factions for our protagonist to chose. So, I assume the Veil Jumpers have an entirely separate purpose from our main cast "The Veilguard"...
...Which kinda makes me wonder why *we're* even called the Veilguard to begin with. 😂
A bit of rambling about the new title under the cut! :D
I guess my question is, how would one be able to "guard the Veil" when it's literally this metaphysical construct that effects the nature of the entire world and not, like, a physical barrier to guard? lol When I first saw the title, it made me think of something like "Border Patrol"... like, Solas obviously wants spirits to enter the world freely without the Veil, so the title has me picturing the protagonist "patrolling" an invisible barrier to keep spirits and all things Fade out. 😂
In his explanation for the new title, Gary McKay said that the "Veil needs guarding, because Solas wants to destroy it, hence The Veilguard"... So are we not actually interacting with the Veil itself but just focusing on fighting Solas to "protect" it...?
But then why do I still have a strong feeling it has something to do with our protagonist using the red lyrium idol to do something with the Veil in order to.. idk, save the world, whatever that means? 😂
Actually, the new title has me a bit confused now, because.. we literally have those trillions of hints pointing towards the Veil coming down.. but now the new title actually implies that it won't happen? Because there can't be a "Veilguard" without the Veil, right? 😂
So.. if the Veil were to come down at any point in the game.. the Veilguard would lose its job, I guess? 😂 Idk, it's just so strange to me, given all the previous speculation and if the Veilguard is actually another "organization" like the Inquisition, even though Solas made it clear in Trespasser that any organization will eventually face betrayal and corruption (which is why we needed to find "people Solas doesn't know" in the first place)? lol
So my guess is that "The Veilguard" is just this funky name our main gang of seven (eight with the protagonist?) people came up with, because they thought it was cool and it's not an organization in that sense, but more like "The Guardians of the Galaxy" or something. lol But if that's the case, I can't help but chuckle at the idea... like, imagine if Hawke and friends would've called themselves the "Kirkwall Guard" or something. 😂
But anyway. See, in my opinion, the Veil getting weaker correlates with the Blight spreading further, because the root of the Blight lies within the Black City and that's why Solas created it in the first place, to contain the Blight/the elven gods. But Solas himself claims in Tevinter Nights that whatever he's going to do will "save this world", so I don't think he's planning on just letting the world succumb to the Blight. lol
Ok, I'm gonna stop rambling now, because this is getting way too long. 😂 I guess we just have to wait and see and I actually think there's a good chance we'll know a lot more at this time tomorrow! 👀

All bosses
Here I'll post all the bosses that we foght in the game. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
The first boss and also the first villain we met. He's loved <3
Tumblr media
Fun facts about him: He looks like Hooktail from TTYD.  The repeating patterned segments of Fracktail's body, as well as its name are both references to a Fractal , a geometric repetition of a pattern.
According to Wikipedia a fractal is a curve or geometric figure, each part of which has the same statistical character as the whole. Fractals are useful in modeling structures (such as or snowflakes) in which similar patterns at progressively smaller scales, and in describing partly random or chaotic phenomena such as crystal growth, fluid turbulence, and galaxy formation.
Like this:
Tumblr media
When he scanns its database, its eyes turn into the Internet connection symbol for the Wii Shop Channel.
When Dimentio causes it a short-circuit, he riffs on MS-DOS and Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Me error messages, makes a reference to the The Legend of Zelda character Error (who stated "I AM ERROR"), and then yells "CTRL ALT DEL" (control, alt, delete).
The trackles are diminutive, robotic beings which are produced by Fracktail. Like him, they were presumably created by the Tribe of Ancients.
In Super Mario Kun (the manga of the game) Fracktail presents itself as a "god" and Mario is initially scared, until it offers him the Pure Heart after it realizes Mario is the hero of the prophecy. Dimentio arrives and glitches Fracktail, causing it to mercilessly attack Mario. Mario tries everything (such as paper-izing himself and praying to it) but nothing works. After Fracktail destroys Peach's photo, Mario's precious possession, he attacks and defeats Fracktail. Dimentio, who was enjoying the battle, disappears, promising to return. Fracktail (who does not explode like in the game) un-glitches and gives the Pure Heart to Mario, unaware of what happened.
Additional Information:
Catch Card: 180
HP Max: ???
Attack: 1
Defense:
Score: 1000
Card descryption: Fracktail valiantly guarded the Pure Heart inside Yold Ruins. That is, until Dimentio fried his processor.
Tattle: That's Fracktail, the robotic guardian of the Pure Heart. It's quite enormous... Max HP is ??, Attack is 1. It can fly and swoop down with its big open mouth... But I think the antenna-like horn atop its head is its weak spot... I think you're going to need to use Thoreau to hit it...
His name in Italian is Dracker , a pun on "drago" (dragon) and "hacker". But in German his name is Portmanteau of "lohe" (blaze) and "kost" (food); also a pun on "rohkost" (raw vegetables) or "locust"... Weird.

Mimi, the Copycat.

Bowser. The king of Koopas!
HP: 20
Attack: 2
Defense: 1

(With a GREAT soundtrack, you don't believe me? Watcha this:)

BIG BLOOPER
Its theme is an arrangement of the underwater music from Super Mario Bros. 3.
Defeating Big Blooper does not earn the player any points, and the giant squid is not killed by the encounter. If the player enters the area where the Blooper's tentacles come out of the floor and ceiling, Big Blooper can be tattled using Tippi or Tiptron.
Fun facts: In Chapter 3, it's the only chapter (besides Castle Bleck) who has a battle in each part.
In the prelease, It was stipulated that Tippi and the discarded Pixl would fight it, here is a screenshot that confirms it:

With also a great theme, check it out.

Talking about real imbeciles...
Francis is completely invisible when in 2D, but if Mario into 3D, Francis's moving shadow is visible, making it easier to counterattack. Additionally, slamming the ground with will force Francis to appear for a brief moment.
The next time Francis appears is in the Castle Bleck chapter, Castle Bleck Foyer, though as an optional boss. This is the only time he can engage in battle against Luigi and for Tippi to use the Tattle ability on him, since Luigi and Tippi were not available in chapter 3. Partway through the chapter, a disguised Mimi asks the player what they hate most. One of the answers for the final question is "Francis", which will cause Francis to appear in the third room and another battle with him will begin. Francis had apparently been watching one of his favorite television programs before being warped into the castle, and, despite his confusion, he yearned to have Tippi back so much that he talked himself into thinking that his Reclinatron 4500 chair had manipulated his very dreams and warped him to Tippi. After his defeat, Francis runs again, claiming he would simulate the battle on his computer to see what had kept him from winning.
Tumblr media
In the manga, when Francis kipnapped Tippi, Mario disguises as Peach, and then Francis kidnapped him. Bowser and his troops have created a little base in Bitlands and see Francis with Princess Peach, causing Bowser to go alone to rescue her. When Mario arrives at Fort Francis, the caged Tippi recognizes him, blowing his cover. Mario snatches her and tries to escape, but Francis starts fighting for his rare butterfly, ending up swallowing Mario. Barry arrives and suggest Tippi to shake the Wii Remote in order to free Mario from Francis' belly, but the two Pixls cannot shake it enough. Right on time, Bowser arrives and, still thinking that Francis swallowed Peach, shakes the Wii Remote so vigorously that he manages to free Mario, even though he gets out from Francis' wrong end. Bowser and Mario start arguing and, when Francis tries to ask what is going on, the two direct their punches against Francis, defeating him and freeing the fourth Pure Heart. Talking about shady things...
In the Japanese version, his like for anime is even more emphasized.
Additional information:
Catch card: 185
HP: 40
Attack: 1
Score: 3000
Card description: Francis totally nerds out for rare collectibles. He takes geek chic to a totally new level.
Tattle (In chapter 8-2): That geeky chameleon is Francis. He's a little obsessive about his hobbies... Max HP is 40. Attack is 1. He can also make himself invisible... You can't hit what you can't see, so wait for him to reappear... But he is still there. Look at the floor and find his shadow... Yech... Just looking at him brings back bad memories...
Fun facts: In the Japanese version of the game, Francis yells "Oppose violence!" before he runs away upon defeat.
In Chapter 8, if Tippi is used to inspect the area before the optional battle takes place, Tippi will give the following tattle text: "There's something here... I have a really bad feeling about this..."
In Issue 44 of the Invincible comic series, on page 10, there is a character wearing a T-shirt that references Francis. The shirt features a chameleon in a yellow T-shirt and glasses, sweating, holding a laptop, and saying "HI-TECHNICAAAL."  (A/N): If anyone has a copy of the page, PLEASE SEND IT!!!
Tumblr media
The green Thunder!!!
HP: 40
Attack: 3
Score: 2000
Tumblr media
Brobot
HP: 255
Attack: 4
Deffense: 3 (6 against fire)
Score: 4000
It is the Super Paper Mario equivalent of the Magnus von Grapple robot found in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
Brobot has the second-largest amount of HP in the game, tied with Dark Muth (only Shadoo has more health, having 400 HP in total), even more than Brobot L-type. However, this is countered by the fact that Squirps' laser rapidly delivers large amounts of damage.
Brobot appears in volume 37 of the Super Mario-Kun, in the Super Paper Mario story arc, where Luigi calls upon it after thinking about negative memories he had with Mario. The Brobot then gets defeated by the Pure Heart and the happy flowers.
In battle, Brobot fires homing missiles and straight shots at the party. The missiles can be destroyed by shooting them. Brobot also fires lasers from its eyes, but they can be dodged by flipping. It can also open its mouth and inhale to try and suck the gang in, then eat them and spit them out, doing major damage in the process.
During the battle, Choco-bars will float by. The player can get them and use them for their advantage. There are five different colors, and each color has a different effect;
Red bars will increase the player's Attack power by 1.
Yellow bars will make the player faster.
Green bars will allow the player to shoot missiles for a short time, which deal regular damage but ignore defense.
Blue bars will create a barrier that will nullify all of Brobot's damage.
Purple bars will have the player shoot two Squirps rays at once.
(A/N): I'm still missing half of the bosses and the optionals, so I'll do part 2. Have a happy day!

I LOVE future/alternate reality concepts that hit that uncanny valley sweet spot. Anyone can design a planet with wild hijinks, but it takes skill to come up with something that's close to our reality but not quite right, like you're genuinely peering into another dimension. You're seeing something that you're never meant to see.
I realize that Wall-E takes place in our universe, but Buy n Large gives me similar vibes. I wish I could walk around in that abandoned store. Additionally, that billboard from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is legitimately one of my favorite things in the MCU. It's close to the billboards on Earth, but it's not...right? Not just the creatures, but the language and weird food on the advertisement.
This is why Interdimensional Cable 2 is one of my favorite Rick and Morty episodes. Rixty Minutes is mostly unfunny improv, but Interdimensional Cable 2 is weird and trippy but just close enough to our reality that I actually feel like I'm watching TV from alternate universes.
Tumblr media
Lil' Bits is one of my favorites. It's obviously cartoony, but the restaurant looks real, and the surreal music in the background is a little eerie. I also love The Adventures of Stealy. It's bizarre but not that far from the weird game shows we have on Earth.
Most of that episode is a surreal stream-of-consciousness experience. I wish I could watch it for the first time again. That was one of the moments where I thought--yeah, I'm hooked on this show.

Hi! Sorry if someone's already asked something similar, but I'd love some recommendations for space fantasy games!
THEME: Space Fantasy
Hello friend! You're the first request for this but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't already cultivating this very list!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Solar Blades & Cosmic Spells, by Diogo Nogueria.
The universe is in collapse, as planets and systems struggle for freedom under the rule of sinister despots. Against the malevolent sorcery of the Overlords stand the few remaining bearers of the legendary Solar Blades.
What will you do when the forces of the Void close in?
Solar Blades & Cosmic Spells is a rules light, Star & Sorcery Role Playing Game with an Old School spirit. This is a complete Role Playing Game, inspired by the Old School Renaissance, the Pulp Literature and the many Science Fantasy stories brought to us by movies, comics and games. Based on the Sharp Swords & Sinister Spells RPG, this game system provides players and Overlords (that's how we call the GM in this game) a set of flexible and streamlined rules, as well as an array of tools to make gameplay fast and fun, allowing them to have exciting adventures with solar blades and cosmic spells!
This game borrows a number of concepts from other game styles including rolling for attributes (a la OSR games), an overarching concept (similar to FATE games), and a character archetype (similar to a character class or a playbook). The system uses only d6s and d20s for dice rolls, and outlines rules for combat, although not as much for Social challenge. This reflects the traditional OSR ethos: if the characters are using creativity to solve a problem, reward it, rather than making them roll for it. There’s also a ton of advice on using sorcery, piloting starships, and encounters with other creatures, hostile and not. If you like having lots of toys to play with, as well as wealth of advice for the GM, you might want to check out this game!
GSXX: Generation Ship, by Harper Jay.
Hundreds of years ago, humanity left the Old World behind in massive generation ships. Dozens of these ships set off into space, seeking new homes. Much of the interior of these ships was set up for farming, and humans took many plants and animals into the stars with them.
The spirits of the Old World came with them. Cut off from the Earth Mother, they changed and evolved. Most found peaceful and content lives, but some lost themselves while out in the Void, becoming wayward and chaotic.
You play as a group of individuals living on one of these ships. While violence and strife are not unheard of, there is enough to contend with when drifting through space without fighting your fellow travellers. If you like quick, light, character creation and the story of a community that must work together in order to survive, Generation Ship might be for you.
Brigand Galaxy, by Hella Broke Studio.
Brigand Galaxy is a game heavily inspired by 90's sci-fi anime in tone and aesthetics. With a focus on the crew as family, and the inevitable confrontation of hidden pasts and troubles coming into conflict with your present selves. It's about cool narrative fights, both outside and inside space ships. It's about running from your past as every good Anime protag does and about bonding with your fellow crew as you scrape a living out of odd jobs and trying to find that one big score.

Highwinds contains all you need to play, and is designed for 1-6 players and one game master. For playing in person, three six-sided dice are recommended for each player. 15 sample characters are included, ready to play as both PCs or antagonists.
If you want to blend elements from a number of different space genres, or if you want lore that has some of its own unique elements, Highwinds is one to check out. Your characters have the opportunity to dip into martial, magic, and psionic talents, and contains unique species, bringing the fantasy to space-fantasy. The game uses d6s for Task Resolution rolls, and at character creation you take Skill Bonuses to reflect your character’s aptitude and training. There’s detailed rules for combat, vehicle management, and taking care of your home base - so if you like getting into the bits and pieces that build a more versatile campaign, Highwinds is a game worth checking out.

Gamora Masterlist 2
part one
5 times gamora appreciated loki and nebula’s growing friendship and 1 time she schooled someone else. (ao3) - Michaelssw0rd T, 13k
Summary: After the events of Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and Thor Ragnarok, the Guardians team up with the Asgardians aboard the Statesman in the efforts of locating and defeating Thanos. In the process, Gamora observes an unexpected friendship taking birth.
20 questions (ao3) - bevioletskies T, 118k
Summary: Wasp has a new competition in store for the students of Avengers Academy, and there’s money involved. So obviously, Peter and Gamora have to pretend to be a couple in order to win. Wait, what?
A little girl whose name was not Gamora (ao3) - LectorEl T, 1k
Summary: Gamora speaks of her past.
Bad Habits (ao3) - Sholio T, 3k
Summary: It looks like Nebula might be developing a bad habit of helping Gamora out of trouble. Set post-GotG 2.
break the chain (ao3) - evotter T, 16k
Summary: “Thanos is the worst threat you could possibly imagine.” Gamora says. Her voice sets a chill in Peter’s bones. “We need to get ahead of him as quickly as we possibly can or we will lose if he even gets the slightest bit in front of us. Please, Peter Parker. We need all the help we can get. You do this for us, and we will do something for you. Anything you need.”
Anything is pretty nice. Especially considering he might need them to guard him so Tony doesn’t totally murder him. And they seem like nice enough people. And if Strange trusts them… “Okay,” says Peter, rather reluctantly. “I’ll go with you guys to space.“
(or: peter contacts star-lord and meets the guardians of the galaxy. not infinity war/endgame compliant.)
Built Not Unlike Me (ao3) - EmiliaGryphon N/R, 1k
Summary: Gamora and Rocket are more similar than they think. One day Gamora realizes this.
c h a i n s (ao3) - dormant_bender M, 2k
Summary: In which Gamora takes what she wants from Peter without considering his feelings.
“I get it, okay? You’re not into cuddling, neither am I.. M'more of a have a beer and pass out kinda guy myself.” She rolls her eyes. “I know you know how I feel about you.. Makes me feel like shit that you do this to me and leave.. Could be a lot more than that.. I mean–If that’s what you wanted.”
don’t anyone wake me (ao3) - Wawa_Girl gamora/peter T, 16k
Summary: It felt like he lost her all over again.
How Gamora's Life Literally Became Gumdrops With the Same Amount of Destruction (ao3) - bluerosele G, 1k
Summary: Gamora couldn’t have foreseen her life being this when she agreed to join an official squad not involved in destroying aspect of attack, but she had never asked for any of this. There are a lot more board game battles involved.
human as i am (ao3) - endquestionmark gamora/peter G, 6k
Summary: Gamora has spent a great deal of her life angry at a lot of people, for more or less justified reasons: Thanos with a bone-deep banked roar, and Ronan more intensely, but less deeply; Nebula, now, with an anger born of sorrow, and a hundred hundred men without whom the universe would be better off. She has killed bad men and good men and men who were simply in the way. This — anger, she supposes, at a friend — is completely alien to her, and more insistent than anything she’s felt before, like an itch beneath her skin, or the gravity well of a black hole. She can’t shake it off, no matter what. It makes her want to shout at Peter, but not until he acquiesces: instead, she wants him to shout back, to engage, instead of evading, the way he always does. She wants—
Gamora realizes what she wants, suddenly, and she almost misses a step.
it’s called caring (ao3) - von_gikkingen G, 4k
Summary: “I need a way to know what’s going on in that stupid space skull,” Gamora announces.
“Wouldn’t that be nice,” chuckles Stakar, apparently deciding that as the captain it’s his job to get involved in this. “Those a-holes she hangs out with are always at the centre of whatever the weirdest thing going on in the galaxy is. If we knew what they’re up to we’d know which parts to steer clear off.”
“I mean they are always getting in trouble. Half the time it’s on purpose. And what if it’s going to get worse now that Star-guy and Bug left?” Gamora says, all the more passionate on the subject now that she’s been agreed with, if only jokingly. Because the captain couldn’t have meant that. That wasn’t the kind of idea they got the whole crew together over so they can work out an actual plan of action… “I mean who is even in charge right now? I don’t know. Why would I need to be told…?” Gamora snaps with angry indignation.
At a person who is currently lightyears away.
rock me gently (ao3) - enigma731, invisibledaemon M, 479k
Summary: “She is our–She is Gamora,” Nebula says. “There is only one Gamora and I know her better than any of you do.” She pauses and glares at Peter, clearly challenging him to protest that. For once, he doesn’t dare. “This Gamora has jumped forward in time nine years, but she is the same person at her core. Just as you are the same despite not having experienced the last five years I did. We are all just–out of sync at the moment.”
ruins (ao3) - TheFictionalMe M, 51k
Summary: Five times Peter told Gamora to go right, and one time he didn’t.
“Why does somebody always have to die in this scenario?”
someone is friendless, and cannot find their way (so i keep a light in my window) (ao3) - philthestone gamora/peter T, 6k
Summary: She’d had her own room, yes, because thank the stars Peter had the sense to move some of his junk out of the various hidey holes in the ship into the cargo bay on the assumption that they would all kill each other within the week if they didn’t have their own spaces, but she’d been stuck in a modified M-ship built for half the number of people it was housing, and her housemates were a motley assortment of questionably sane males and a baby tree.
Things aren’t all that different now, except for a few significant changes:
The Quadrant is definitely bigger than an M-ship; Mantis is here, trying her best to learn how to smile and keeping on a pair of gloves Gamora had dug out of her own bag for her; and Gamora is … comfortable.
spaceball ricochet (ao3) - philthestone gamora/peter T, 3k
Summary: “Now c’mon, Quill, don’t look so put out,” says Yondu, as the moron crewman known as Taserface ties his hands together behind his back. “Everyone all shaped up to keep their promises, I reckon. You’re sacrificin’ yerself for your lady love here, like you promised. Jackass is takin’ over the world, like he promised. An’ missy over here is stayin’ loyal to her daddy, like she promised. So we’re all men of our word, overall, ‘cept Gamora, who’s, y’know, a woman.”
“Shut up, Yondu,” says Peter, glowering at him.
“Yes, shut up, Yondu”, says Ego, sounding bored. Naturally, Peter switches the glower over to him instead.
to say that we're in love ( is dangerous ) (ao3) - dormant_bender gamora/peter E, 4k
Summary: Or: Gamora should have known that Pym Particles would never be sold on the black market for two million units.
What if Gamora gave Thanos the Map to the Soul Stone? (ao3) - Jsnbrgmn T, 3k
Summary: Before making her fateful decision to betray Thanos and join the Guardians of the Galaxy, Gamora made a choice to burn the only map to the Soul Stone. It was the first move on a noble path that ends with her tragic death at the hands of a her adopted father. Half the universe soon followed.
However, the decision was not an easy one and the choices we make have a tendency to shape our convictions. Here we see what could have happened if Gamora's dilemma went the other way and softened her resolve to stop Thanos from his self-perceived destiny.
When Gamora was Sick (ao3) - sophies_burnt_bacon gamora/peter G, 2k
Summary: Gamora's sick but she's not too badly off. The Guardians have a mission and then things get really bad as Gamora manages to get injured.
Lucky Quill's there to help her.
