Ranted about this elsewhere already buuuuut . . . Hot take: OB Jamil keeping the reader as a pet/slave is pre-relationship.

Jamil's whole shtick is wanting to free himself from servanthood and getting the equality, freedom, and respect he deserves. Why would he not want that for his lover? Hell one of his biggest insecurities is trapping them with him under the Asims and being unable to give them the life they deserve.

A Jamil who's in a relationship where he 10000% smitten, comfortable, and genuinely open with s/o would rip his own heart out before even thinking of trapping them or seeing them as lesser. This goes double for his overblot (we've seen with the Shround's that it is possible for overblots to do things out of love).

So what doth thou thinketh of this scenario: OB!Jamil who's just finished sending the gang to the middle of the desert having the immediate thought "FUCK YEAH! Now I can finally spoil my beloved!"

OB!Jamil just throwing embarrassment out the window and spoiling the absolute shit out of his lover. I'm talking shameless PDA, no filter whatsoever about how much he loves them, giving them just about anything they could want. Feeling hungry? Here's a feast of your favorite dishes and Jamil is the one feeding you. Little chilly? You're now dressed in enchanted fine silk fit for a queen and cuddled up next him. Worried about your friends out in the desert? Now you get an adorable pouty overblot asking for your attention and making it really hard to say no. Ironically any manipulation he pulls will be the light hearted kind he usual do to get their attention. Also worth mentioning that Jamil is calling them every pet name under the sun while being kissed constantly by the snakes.

Just Overblot Jamil willingly and happily going full malewife mode for his Sultana.

God it will be hard to convince him that overblotting it bad, won't it?

You know I usually have a hard time wrapping my head around Yuu being in a relationship with any of the ob boys pre blot, but the events make it pretty clear that the actual order the blots happen in is pretty flexible σ(￣、￣=) so after squaring that in my head:

Pre-Relationship OB Jamil would want to keep Yuu in a cage because he subconsciously knows they aren't his but he still feels the desire to keep them close. The walls of the cage area physical manifestation of Jamil's emotional repression surrounding his feelings towards Yuu but that's not we're brainrotting about today~

Overblot! Jamil (and just Jamil in general really) is pretty hard to convince that overblotting was a bad idea. Granted he doesn't want to die so yes he'll agree that's bad once he comes to his senses but for now he's really pleased with himself. Finally, he gets to have your attention all to himself and there is no one to judge or interrupt him. He made sure to throw the biggest annoyances across the desert, you can stay right here with him in his embrace exactly where you belong. Being kissed by the snakes is such a cute concept TᴖT He has so many things he's wanted to say, so many many kisses he wanted to give, times he's wanted to touch and hold you that he was never able to do because of his place in the world. I like the idea of Overblot Jamil dancing with Yuu while he sings the sappiest love songs imaginable. Anything to make up for lost time, now that he's free there's so much he can finally give you.

That's what you've wanted this whole time too... right?

I walk into Ghost’s quarters to give him his results only to freeze in place when I hear light snoring. Is he sleep? I just told him I'd be back later. I place his test results on the dresser and step around the foot of the bottom bunk to see König's giant leg hanging off, boot firmly planted on the floor. Oh! Oh. The other one was tucked under his massive thigh while his chest rose and fell evenly under his crossed arms.

What are you doing here? And how are you fitting on his bed like this? His phone was on the floor with earbuds still attached so I sneak closer, hoping he wouldn’t wake up as I pick it up. Ghost steps into the room and before he can open his mouth, I shush him.

“The fuck are you doing?” He asks in a whisper.

"I was just picking up his phone. What are you doing?"

“It’s my room. You get the results?”

“On the dresser. And like I said, you don't have any allergies."

"Bullshit."

The screen turns on, revealing his Spotify playing Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy from a playlist called "Ask Her" making me gasp softly.

"What, now?" Ghost asks.

König...likes somebody? Is it me? Way to jump to conclusions, but it's not like he talks to many people. Who could it be? He must have it bad—he even made a whole playlist with this song. I look over at him to see him lifting his hat from his eyes. Before I knew it, he was towering over me with a soul-piercing glare from the eyeholes in his mask. He grabs his phone from me, letting both headphones hang to his knees.

"Shit--"

"What are you doing?"

"Nothing, I just came to see Ghost and I saw your phone was on the floor."

"Doesn’t explain why you’re on it."

"I wasn’t. It just turned on."

König's eyes narrowed briefly before he looks away. He sighs as he stepped around me and left the room wordlessly. I look over at Ghost with narrow eyes and crossed arms.

"Gee, thanks."

"For...?"

"Backing me up there."

He shrugs, putting the papers down. “I didn’t even know what you trying to achieve to help.”

“I wasn’t going through his phone! I was just on his lock screen!”

"Looks like you were from over here.”

 I suck my teeth and lean against the bunk with a groan. He’s definitely not gonna like me now, great. Not like it'd make sense anyway, I'm a medic.

“He’ll get over it.”

I gasped, getting an idea. “So...Ghost~”

“No.”

“I- what? I didn’t even say anything.”

“You want to know who his playlist is about and no.”

"So you do know?!"

"Never said that."

"Simon--"

"Not only do I not know, I also don't care."

“That’s...fair. But it’s König.”

“Why are you so curious all of a sudden, huh?”

After (Y/n) leaves, I wait a bit before walking the opposite way to knock on König's door. Once I hear his muffled voice tell me to come in, I walk inside to see him cleaning his knives. I lean against the wall, watching the cloth move along the blade of his dagger as the door shuts next to me.

"Shut up."

"Just saying. I think you should just tell her, you're a grown man."

"Right, because you're so good with feelings like these."

I shrug slightly, “Maybe your phone has it out for you.”

"Ja?" He flips a knife and cleans the handle, “Well, she's not exactly wrong.”

Most of the songs I have on there can fall into a few categories, there's a lot of stuff so let's see if I can list them out, uhhh...

Songs that reflect his mental state and the way the acts, why he does things, what he's actually thinking underneath, things like that. (Some examples of those I'd say are like, My ugly, Puppet loosely strung, Noel's lament, The view from halfway down, One big beautiful sound, and many others that I can't list or else we'll be here all day.) Most of those songs end up being from musicals, because musical songs are really meant for showing character and that works great for my purposes. Also they're quite jazzy and swing-y for lack of a better term, which I think it fits him pretty well!

Pining and breakup songs, because holy shit look at him. You cannot tell me this man hasn't had like, so many people that he pines for or had a crush on at some point. *Slaps trunk of car* this bad boy can fit so many unrequited crushes in him. RM to me is the kind of guy that gets crushes very easily and very fast, and the worst thing is they're pretty genuine! He's just, terrible at commitment and honestly uses romance to not have to think about the parts of his life that he doesn't want, so he puts all his self worth into romance specifically. I'm going to squish him.

Songs that just generally fit his vibes to me tbh? I have at least a few instrumentals in there, and they give me him thoughts so I put them in. It's fun to imagine him being stupid and goofy and dancing tango (I still wanna animate that someday)

Sad ass songs because yeah. These fit in the first category, but they also deserve their own category because there's just, too many of them. HE DOESN'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT HIS EMOTIONS, BUT HE HAS SO MANY OF THEM. God please let him actually be genuine and open up God please.

Sometimes shitpost songs that I think are funny and yet they still fit him, like blonde boyz and red flags. It's funny idk what to tell you. I don't have too many of those on there but I am accepting more because they make my day.

Songs that make me think of animatics and scenes!! These also go for a lot of musical songs, but also JHARIAH WHEN I CATCH YOU JHARIAH. Usually these make me sad!

Usually, a song will definitely fit these categories, but it's also very VERY common that I will just, grab a song and streeeecth it meaning wise so it can fit in his playlist because I already liked that song before and I like my blorbo being associated with one of my favorite songs. There are so many of those in there.

And I think that's it? I might've missed some category, but that's fine. I can also definitely go into specific detail about each and every song on that playlist if asked but I will not do that on this post because that would be SO MANY WORDS. Indulge me someday perhaps however, if you dare.

Friends on the Other Side works pretty well for Ranger, at the very least his attitude. Rainhaze's deal came from desperation rather than greed, but I do like things that speak to his thoughtless self-centeredness and hero complex.

Okay so I saw Wish last night and I have some thoughts. Spoilers below!

The movie wasn’t bad. It wasn’t particularly good either though. It had all the elements that should have made a great Disney movie but it fell flat. And I think it all stems from the way the movie is so non-specific.

First, the world building. King Magnifico built a kingdom where everyone would be safe in exchange for giving him their wishes because…….. something bad happened to his family when he was young? And it prompted him to learn all the magic in the world and become the most powerful sorcerer so that he could…..NOT grant everyone’s wishes? We weren’t given enough background on the kingdom and the way it functions to have any kind of emotional impact in the end. Why does everyone agree to give up their wish? It seems like a raw deal. And also why does everyone only get ONE wish their whole life?? And if the wish is the best part of the person and they give it up, shouldn’t everyone over 18 be like Simon? Boring and sleepy and wish less? But this does not appear to be the case. It’s all too vague and muddled to make much sense.

(On a contrary note, I actually thought Chris Pine as Magnifico was the best part of the movie. You could tell he was having a lot of fun with it, even though the character was so shallow! I’m happy about a return to traditional Disney villains, even if this one wasn’t the best example of it.)

Okay, then there’s the music. It was bad. It was like a pop rip off of Lin Manuel Miranda but with terrible lyrics. (“When it comes to the universe we’re all shareholders”?? SHAREHOLDERS?) None of the music seemed to take inspiration from its vague Mediterranean setting and even the big I Want song was bland. In This Wish Asha sings “I wish for more for us than this.” Okay? So uninspiring! In all other Disney movies you know exactly what the mc wants and why they want it. Ariel wants to be humans because she feels trapped and misunderstood under the sea. Belle wants an adventure because she feels she does not fit in in her small village and she longs for her life to resemble the fantastical stories she reads. Mirabel wants magic so she can fix the cracks in her family. I could go on. Asha wants everyone to get their wishes granted because her grandpa is 100 and hasn’t gotten his wish granted. Very noble. But his wish kinda stinks—he wants to inspire people but we’re never told why or in what way. We never find out what Asha wishes for before she learns about Magnifico. She’s just a cookie cutter heroine with a mix of likeable qualities—loves her friends and family, adorkable, passionate—that all add up to a lot of nothing. She could be any one of us watching, I guess, but the thing that truly makes characters complex and relatable is specificity. And Asha is as vague as they come.

Then there are the other characters. None of them are developed enough. Her friends are the seven dwarves basically, but none of them grow past their one-word personalities (bashful, grumpy, sneezy, etc.) except maybe Simon, but even that isn’t really explored. There are too many of them and none of them are distinct. The goat is whatever. The star is adorable (though I’ve seen the concept art for the star boy storyline and I’m so upset we didn’t get that movie! But that’s a whole other post). The queen could have been interesting, but we never got any backstory on her. How and when did she fall in love with magnifico? What were her plans for their kingdom and do her hopes and wishes mirror what the kingdom has become? Asha’s mom and grandpa were just kind of there. And…. That’s it’s really. No one and nothing stands out.

The end was non specific as well. The people are inspired by the whole “we’re all stars” thing but they weren’t even there for the song the woodland creatures sing to Asha so how come all of a sudden they are so into this idea and it saves them when it never came up for them before? It should have been an emotional gut punch moment but it just felt rote and predictable. I didn’t feel any sense of triumph for any of the characters. There was no real magic behind it. Asha is given a magic wand and the king becomes a magic mirror and that’s it, the end. Overall it was very disappointing and I found myself bored in a lot of places.

I’ve read a lot of critic reviews and the one thing that I disagree with is the references to other movies. They didn’t bother me like they seem to be bothering others. Some of them were silly and over the top but like whatever. Even though they didn’t bother me they added absolutely nothing to the movie or my experience watching it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sooo. I know this is an ask game, but I don't have many followers so I just filled it out myself for fun

Do you have a song that represents your OC, if so why?

Okay! This was difficult. Because it is Yuu, I chose 3.

Wake Up by Kowloon. Beethoven's Appassionata (Yamhoven for twst because I thought it was funny. Valentina Lisitsa has a nice playing of it on Youtube), Gravity by Maaya Sakamoto to meet somewhere in the middle.

Who is your OC’s closest platonic friend?

Neige LeBlanche.

Tell us about a complicated relationship your OC has with another character?

Nearly all of them. I'll choose Riddle.

I described it to my friend as shooting mommy issue at each other like they're playing paintball, but there are more layers.

He starts off disliking Riddle almost immediately because of his treatment during the entrance ceremony. Every other interaction with him after that is negative, Riddle makes it very clear he doesn't approve of his and Grim's admittance to the school, question's Crowley's decision, and is overall just arrogant and overbearing.

Yuu skips his overblot (postpones it) by stealing the Mont Blanc tart and leaving before Che'nya has a chance to say anything. But before he leaves he gets into an argument with Riddle and Riddle collars him. He takes Ace back with him to Ramshackle and the two of them come up with a coded list of nonsense rules to use against Riddle, Yuu requests Riddle join him for dinner in a supposed attempt to reconcile - asks Trey for the information - and seek his guidance. Riddle removes the collar from Yuu, assuming the apology dinner shows remorse. After making his favorite food and dessert, bombarding him with violation after violation when he wasn't given enough time to learn the dorm's set of rules and react, they prove their point and get Riddle to remove Ace's collar.

From there Yuu just starts poaching students from other dorms when they don't want to deal with their housewardens etc, Ace and Deuce being the first to decide to join him. Which he ends up rubbing in Riddle's face after Riddle is rude as hell to him during the first Housewarden meeting he's allowed to attend. Riddle also does not think he should be allowed at the meeting...

Anyways, then Yuu gets injured in Book 2, and their relationship starts to slowly improve in bits and pieces. Yuu starts studying the Queen's Decrees (just like that word better) mostly so he can argue them against Riddle (boy is petty...but he does sincerely engage with them) before he ends up getting like.. converted to seeing them as not as bullshit as he did at the beginning because he feels like actually they aren't that bad when given context. And he'd like to believe Riddle that maybe things could improve or feel less chaotic if he just followed a list of rules. Among other things.

What are your OC’s minor fears?

Being late, large toothy grins, apples, snowstorms

Animal Languages. Feline is tonal and he keeps insulting Lucius

Why did they join their clubs?

He was already going out and spending time with Jade, learning about the environment through him, so he thought it made sense to join Mountain Lovers Club. Plus, it made Jade happy to have a new member/have someone to relate to, and he enjoyed spending time with him.

He quit that one to join the Gargoyle Research Society during book 3, he was hoping the low membership would mean it was quiet.

Is there a character your OC doesn’t like, if so why?

A lot. A simple reason for one of them would be that he doesn't like Leona for invading his personal space early on in the story - magic sniffing thing. He has a strained relationship with all of Octavinelle, it very personally affected him when the contracts were revealed. He was very upset with Jade and forgave Azul and Floyd more easily after the overblot than Jade. He hates being controlled and has a strained relationship with Azul, Riddle, and anyone else who attempts to control him in any way, but he wants Riddle's approval and is trying to learn the Queen's Decrees because he is hoping it will help him feel less adrift.. He doesn't initially like Kalim, he and Idia don't like each other, and he doesn't appreciate Vil's unasked for advice.

Who is their favorite staff member? Why?

Crowley. He feels like he should be able to relate to him the most - he is a bird - and wants his support. After that either Sam or Trein, Sam is usually kind to him and allowed him to buy a dagger on layaway - something he learned was unusual. Trein he just enjoys discussing history with.

What dorm would your OC be sorted into besides their current one?

Hm. He could be in Octavinelle, Scarabia, or Pomefiore potentially.

Is there a character your OC sees as a sibling?

No, there are some characters he is closer to, but he doesn't see them that way. If he had to choose, it would be Neige potentially, but he doesn't see himself as family with anyone

What is your OC’s favorite event(s), what was their role?

Uhh... he had fun his first Halloween. He had fun during Beans Day when he helped Azul win. He was an imposter.

If your OC could physically fight another character, who would it be and would they win?

The... cast of students except maybe Jamil, Kalim, Silver, Neige, Lilia, and Ortho ? He would not win most of them, but he would fight hard.

What are your OC’s grades like?

Excellent on his side. They round out with Grim's who is not always as diligent.

What is a secret not many characters know about your OC?

He doesn't remember a single thing about himself. He leaves the dorm at night to go see the ghosts and other entities. He has prophetic dreams and terrible nightmares about the Great Seven. He lets the ghosts (not the main 3, there are some OCs) possess him if they agree to help with certain tasks (one of his friends helps him cheat at Animal Languages for example) He keeps a lot to himself.

How would your OC describe their entrance ceremony from their POV?

He found himself in a strange place he didn't understand, being directed to stand and wait for a ritual he had no way to understand, he wanted to leave immediately because he felt unsafe. So he knocked the candles over as a distraction and bolted from the room, out into the trees/darkness. Grim started setting a bunch of stuff on fire in the distraction.

What does your OC think of the Ramshackle ghosts?

He has more respect for them than most of the living students.

What is the hardest thing to adjust to at NRC? The magic? Being away from their family? Ect.

Not having any memories, not being able to participate in the school to the same degree as others- being constantly derided for the fact and told (verbally/non verbally) very clearly they don't think he belongs there. Essentially being a stateless person who has to rely primarily on the generosity of the Headmaster to stay sheltered.

Do they trust Crowely?

Yes. He shouldn't but he believes and respects him, he was the first person he saw after leaving the coffin, he depends almost entirely on him, he hopes he will send him home soon. Wherever that is.

What chapter does your OC get the most personal character development?

3 or 4.

One Man Band Track by Track Review

Right, so I have listened to the album twice. Miles wasn’t lying when he said it was banger after banger. But while the music is upbeat the lyrics are in places dark. Touching on self-doubt, insecurity and loneliness. For me OMB is the yin to CDG's yang. Both confessional (depending on your beliefs – both largely about the same person) but while CDG is an album of heartbreak, OMB is an album of hope. It seems Miles has found himself, and judging by the last track, he has someone who loves and understands him. And well, it all kinds of explains why he is so happy these days.

Troubled Son

This song could essentially be called I am approaching middle age and I am coming to terms with the person I am. Good and bad. Musically this track always reminds me of The Strokes.

Lyrically, despite beating himself up a bit, it is a song of hope. Once you face your own demons you can start to battle them.

This is the song that will get people singing at gigs. The lyrics are relatable to so many of us and it would be quite cathartic sharing the fact you’re a bit fucked up with several thousand people doing the same thing.

The Best is Yet To Come

Miles has admitted this is a song about being on the lash with his mates Big Lou and Romeo. Musically the driving rhythm and backing vocals are reminiscent at times of Queens of the Stone Age. Hard to explain, but this track is the most traditional Miles Kane and could have quite easily come from an earlier album.

One Man Band

Can I just start by saying there are not enough words to describe how much I love this song! Another song of self-reflection. I promise not to make too many comparisons to You Know Who, but as I have said before, the characterisation reminds me a lot of the character in Mr Schwartz. The performer who puts on the front to entertain people and make them happy, whilst hiding a lonely interior. But whilst Mr Schwartz is heart felt ballad. Miles being Miles. One Man Band sounds like sunshine.

Never Taking Me Alive

The most bonkers track on the album. Musically driven by surf guitar, lyrically an excuse for Miles to sing about his Italian American Heroes – De Niro, Pacino and Sinatra. This is a hype song. The sort of song you stick on on your way to a job interview, to pump you up.

Heartbreaks (The New Sensation)

Probably the weakest track, but still a banger. It evokes the image of a former girlfriend back in Miles’ mod day (retro boy trying to chase away time). With its Motown beat, this could have fitted easily into Change The Show. I mean it is a feel good banger, so to say it is the weakest shows how brilliant all the other tracks are.

The Wonder

Okay, anyone who follows me knows who I think The Wonder is about. So I won’t linger on that. In a nutshell, a song about realising a former lover and all the complications they bring is worth it, and this time you are going to put your fears aside and take a chance. The highlight for me are the rich backing vocals at the end, elevating it to almost gospel level.

Baggio

The happiest song in the world. I have analysed this before. In a nutshell, little Miles Kane is enthralled by Roberto Baggio and his flamboyance and realised its fine to be yourself. It is also a tale of hoping to reconnect with a lost love (cough cough)

Ransom

A mellow track about being afraid of falling in love because he is positive he is going to get heartbroken. However the object of his affections has hold of his cynical heart and he can’t afford the ransom, meaning he can’t escape them. A plea for them to be tender with him because he is trying to find a way. The final refrain being ‘cos I’d anything for you’. Whoever they are he loves them big time!

Doubles

I'm sorry but this is a Milex song. A happy upbeat song with Miles telling ‘the person’ that he is scared but he is missing his ‘Two player high’ but he will wait for this person. The middle eight lyrics ‘Never say never, never say never again, never say never I wanna know where it ends, I’m never in doubt when my heart starts to fall, there’s nothing in my life that I have wanted more, anymore’ ahhhh. This is also a sort of dancing in your bedroom alone song. Or maybe that’s just me.

Heal

This is the epic track of the album. With a heavy, rich musical arrangement, it is like the sequel to the Coup de Grace album. Where Miles was heartbroken, disillusioned with life in LA and at his lowest ebb. He acknowledges he needed time to heal to get to the place where he is now. Once again, gospel style backing vocals elevate the track to the next level. It is another song of hope. Facing up to the fact that we all have to endure the shit times in life to become the people we are.

Scared of love

A sweet acoustic ballad, where Miles opens his heart to his lover. Telling them he is sorry for holding back, but they sweetly tell him they understand because they know he is scared of love. Another song of hope. It would seem he has found love and whoever they are, they are there for him to help him fight his demons.

In no way does the last track inspire a fan fic in me.

Oh my gosh hi moot!! It was so nice to come back home and get to think of answers to these questions, thank you so much for stopping by my inbox <3 Since there are only 3 questions I decided to answer them for Tiny, Dr. B’s, and Admiral Spittz.

6. Were they born pre-war or post-war?

Tiny: Post-war Virginia

Dr. Bartholomew Beau Brumsfeld: Post-war Texas

Admiral Spittz: Pre-war Russia

7. Do they wish they lived before the war / could go back to life before the war?

Tiny: I think she would LOVE to see life before the war. She’s an avid collector of pre-war clothing and has a stash of outfits she tries to keep as pristine as possible. Whenever she enters an abandoned building she treats it like a museum of people’s lives long past. Sure she’s there to scavenge for supplies to trade and sell but she takes her time combing through homes and old stores and shacks in the middle of the woods as if it might give her a better understanding of people who came before. There is a song in her playlist I consider to be a theme song of sorts, Story & Pictures by Wovenhand, that has a line which goes “As a boy I too drew near to the love of dust.” I just think that beautifully captures the way she sees the world around her razed to the ground and sees something precious and fragile in what remains. That if you disturb the ruins too much you might lose whoever was there before in their entirety. No photos, no personal belongings, just another empty space that was once filled. She’d love to experience life before the rising threat of nuclear war and see what it would be like to fit into some quaint suburban neighborhood. I can picture her daydreaming that the neighborhood is full of all her favorite people she’s met in her travels and they get to share in this peace too. Maybe have a barbecue with all her best friends and see what life would be like had it not hardened the hearts of so many.

Dr. Bartholomew Beau Brumsfeld: Not in the slightest. His family has plenty of history before the war and he is happy to put it all behind him and live life anew. My man LOVES being in the post-apocalypse where radiation has done the strangest things to creatures. I wouldn’t say he really studied veterinary medicine in any true capacity since universities don’t properly exist post-war, but his field studies have made him appreciate the resilience of life and the sheer awe-inspiring power of nature. Without the bombs dropping, he never would have discovered his love for the humble honeybeast or become a member of UCIT. His fascination with post-war life also extends to humanity! He’s currently on a quest to become irradiated himself because he’s convinced he isolated the gene that guarantees ghoulification. I say convinced because his theory has only worked once by happenstance after he saved his friend’s life with a Nuka Cola Quantum. For all I know this guy could blissfully walk into a rad twister and never be heard from again.

Admiral Spittz: He is the most nuanced case for this question because while I’m sure there are moments in life he is just Done With Being Here and wishes he could go back, he also recognizes that is a pipe dream and would much rather focus on the present problems he faces. He has a lot of other ghouls relying on him and a naval rivalry to maintain with Admiral Savrion. And life isn’t all bad! He owns a working plane and an aircraft carrier he wants to get seaworthy again. But every now and again time weighs heavily on him when he realizes just how old he’s become and how many people have entered his life and left again. It helps to eradicate the yearning by putting his thoughts and memories down on paper in journals.

14. What is their fondest memory?

Dr. Bartholomew Beau Brumsfeld: This one is so cute and wholesome for him- his fondest memory would be the day he discovered he could accelerate the growth process of a normal queen bee into a new Honeybeast! With a little help from some second hand brotherhood technology he got from a defector and a little tweaking, he was able to nurture his first companion, Annabelle! He was so excited to see her successful transformation in just 4 days that he celebrated by making her a little straw sunhat to wear so she wouldn’t get lost in the herd of other Honeybeasts his family was raising. When he got kicked out of his home for frivolous spending on his research and making so many bees they broke containment, she traveled with him to become his sidekick as an honorary member of UCIT. Sadly she passed away after attempting to sting a man who was holding hostages :( but he took a queen that she was carrying and made a new Honeybeast that is like Anabelle’s daughter! Her name is Bedelia and he loves her dearly. He gave her a little aviation cap so she wears a silly hat too.

Admiral Spittz: His fondest memory is one that is veeeery very old, pre-war in fact, back when he lived in a small Russian village as a young boy. His mother passed away from illness after his younger sister was born and their father was a nasty drunkard. So Spittz kind of took care of his sister in his mother’s place. He has a lot of personal memories of the two of them gathering produce from the market square together, teaching her to haggle a little, and then the two of them would walk to the local cemetery and eat their treats under the statue of a hooded angel. Estaire was the light of his life back then, and his heart hardened the day he lost her. He buried her in the cemetery next to the angel they visited and if he could find a way to get back to Russia now I think he would go and see if their small town survived the war and sit with her again at the statue.

6. Huh, idk honestly. The mind burglars have kinda this thing about how abuse (even if only emotionally) fucks you up. The museum archives look a lot at death and grief. Baldur‘s death is how people were manipulated and trained by politics during the war and what that leads to. Kilmoore is about how the war fucks people up directly. Yanno.

7. They‘d probably be confused as hell and try to stick together. Especially Cecil, Mathildis and Cian would be puzzled as hell at each other because weren’t they in different situations, they’d probably think the same. Roscoe wouldn’t like Treeve probably. Ed would try to explain communism to the Baldur’s death and the Kilmoore guys which is a bad idea because they’re alternate universe wartime people.

9. „Steal“ is more like „we remember the information and submit it.” There’s also overwriting, where you alter a memory to influence a person, but if done wrong, it can cause the person’s sense of self to deravel. Victims do still have them. Complete removal is impossible.

It’s difficult as heck, not only do you have to get past the person’s brain and manipulate them without noticing, you also sometimes come across some pretty fucked up shit in their minds and have to get through to get deeper, and you have to go deep a lot of times. A lot of times you need to keep the person unaware and make them feel as if they’re still conscious, which is why you need a team to tweak stuff. It’s not like you’re rifling through records; it’s like you’re in a place. Steal at once is difficult- the distinction between individual memories is not black and white, and as you go through you see and “steal” a lot of stuff. Fun fact: Cecil has trouble with his memories deraveling later in the story. Say Yipeee to traumatizing slow memory loss!

7. How do you choose which POV to write from? For Photo Op, it's easy because I've always done it from Jared's POV. I have only a few chapters with someone else's POV (like John's, Sherri's, Jensen's). I continue using Jared's POV for that verse because I find his experience as a small town boy meeting the big time world to be fascinating. There's so much to explore from his POV, and so much drama to be had.

For Back Pocket, I switched POVs from the first fic to the second because I wanted Jensen's side of things. I wanted us to see a different side of Jared through his eyes. And for us to see how much Jensen keeps to himself--how far he has to go to open up to Jared and himself. I'm not sure when I'll get to the third installment, but I have a plot outlined and I think we'll go back to Jared's POV.

40. If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see? Omg I would be SO pleased with ANYTHING! But if I had to choose... for Photo Op, I would love to see a scene from when Jared and Jensen visited New Orleans in "Like a Small Boat." There would be so many opportunities there to depict a lot of color and pizzazz. That was a really happy trip for them and has had a big impact on their engagement/wedding.

For Back Pocket, I'd love to see the scene in the first installment where Jared is dancing to Queen in front of Jensen--with his tutu and high heels on. I love that scene so much.

76. Did you have any ideas that didn’t make the final cut of [Fanfic Name]? So many ideas! For Photo Op, I have this whole scene in my head where Jared and his friends put on a talent show at the Center. They participate with an entry wherein they dance to Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance." Jared's forced to be Lady Gaga, lip syncing and dancing front and center. But that scene in my head hasn't really fit into any of the fics so far. Sigh. Maybe one day.

For Back Pocket, there are lots of scenes I wanted to do that revolved around more music. I really wanted to incorporate more duets between J2. I especially wanted to see them sing "Watermelon Sugar" by Harry Styles or "The River of Dreams" by Billy Joel or "Take Me or Leave Me" from RENT. Those are the songs I keep running through my head whenever I imagine up BP. There's always time for more in the third installment. I also wanted to do a scene where J2 just relax in a hammock, with Jared wearing one of Jensen's shirts, Jensen running his hand through Jared's hair. The two of them relaxing on a sunny day.

CR's music isn't for me and i get actively annoyed by the way ppl hail her as the first ~important 'lesbian' singer (i think she has been open abt the fact she has dated both men and women), but i think saying she leaves her songs open to interpretation so as not to risk anything or as a marketing gimmick is kind of reductive, since in her music videos she kisses women, she hires drag queens as her support acts, and has been very open about the journey her sexuality took 1/2

as she grew up in a very conservative christian household. even tho i don't rly like her music (she has one or two i like), her pointing out when ppl yelled at her on twt for playing in US states that have bathroom bills that even so there are still lgbtq people in those states who need visible support was i think a good point. it's probably different in europe and not interesting to you, but here in the US where everything seems to be regressing i appreciate her msg if not her music

Firstly, thank you for reaching out and adding a "genuine USAmerican voice" to the discussion! :) You're also right, I am lacking an intimate knowledge of the current emotional states of the US. For the record: she seems very cool as a person and I don't mean to belittle her activism or the way she's using her platforms. I also don't think she's to blame for how she's hailed as the lesbian queen of music atm, that's just general biphobia (I also think we should keep in mind that sexuality is a constant journey of discovery, so me talking about her being bisexual now is me going from what she herself has said. if she later on says she's a lesbian, I'd never insist on calling her bisexual due to her past relationships with men, obviously. At the same time, I find it uncomfortable and harmful that so many people deny her mlw experiences with that sweeping "lesbian" diagnosis. Bisexuals exist.)

Just to clear up any confusion about what I meant re:marketability: Her using "you" makes the song open to interpretation. Straight people won't feel alienated by "and you're eating me out", because they can easily read the other person as male. That's a privilege other songs don't have. Even Lil Nas X, who uses 2nd person in Montero, doesn't have that privilege because, although the "you" is neutral, he makes it very clear who he's addressing. And of course she's completely free to sing about men, I just find it tiresome that her songs are hailed as gay anthems when they're ambiguous at best. If you want to make most of these applicable to the straight experience, you don't even have to change the pronouns, because there are none. And I do think it's intentionally ambiguous. "And she's eating me out" is going to get way less streams than "and you're eating me out", which fits neatly into the heartbroken Spotify playlist next to Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift, lyrics-wise. And, to make that clear, I don't think it's a bad thing to keep marketability in mind, especially since lgbt+ artists are held to such a high standard - look at Jojo Siwa or Sam Smith the second they are undeniably lgbt+. In short: My comment was strictly referring to her lyrics.

It's great that she supports drag performers and makes out with girls in her videos. Music Videos especially are very impactful - think of Hayley Kiyoko's Girls like Girls and what it did for the wlws of the 2010s (but also... again, do you think "girls like girls like boys do" is as relatable to a straight audience as "do you like this beat? I made it so you'd sleep with me"?).

Anyhow, bottom line: I'm glad she exists, I'm happy she makes music, I'm sure she's touching a lot of people, lifting them up and making them feel seen. Her looks are fun. I just think we shouldn't trip over our feet to hail her as something she isn't (the first lesbian singer ever to make music).
