Patalliro! is fascinating to me because of stuff like this. It's unapologetically gay - even within its anime which aired during primetime hours in 1982 - in a way that many later BL manga would never be, like the ones from the early 2000s which would never dare to call their characters actual homosexuals. Patalliro has actually aged quite well in this regard, there's something comforting about how campy it is.

I kinda wonder what it is about ultrakill that uh (how do I say this without being an asshole) that attracts so many systems (?)

I like statistics so I wanna like, study what it is about certain games or series that seems to collect folks like that. Is it how the fandom treats a piece of media? Is it the demographic? I donno!

Like if we all just decided to treat doom 2016 the same way we treat ultrakill would introjects n stuff start popping up over there too? I hate the saying "why can't they just be friends" because it's always depicted when there is a gay relationship.

I never see that with the low quality forced straight relationships it is always the gay ones that actually have developed meaningful chemistry

Regardless of personal opinion or how you view certain ships, I feel like this influx of “oh men can’t be friends now???” and the whole “Oh their bond is SO strong it exceeds romance!!!” views are getting tiring. Does two men being in genuine romantic love make these people THAT uncomfortable?

Is it only fun to write queer men in a jokingly sexual way that lacks any tenderness and sincerity? Sure Deadpool can make innuendos and leer at men like Colossus and Wolverine but to be in love with a man like he is with Vanessa - is that possible? If he was given a boyfriend would the fans get uncomfortable because now it’s not just a joke?

I feel these shows/movies/etc want their rainbow cake and to eat it too when it comes to men’s queerness. The comedies want their gay jokes but don’t want to commit to anything substantial and the dramas want to pretend to be profound by having the men they’ve written to pine and yearn for one another be simply “more than romantic” despite knowing that if you genderbent one of them they’d be together without question.

Two Men. Same Boat.

Nakarai Sei (ITO ASAHI) lives and unfulfilled life with his "boyfriend" seemingly taking on a relationship of companionship with no sexual satisfaction.

Hagiwara Kazuaki (MUTO JUN) lives an unfulfilled life with his "girlfriend" who also isn't interested in sex.

Sei and Kazuaki both want what their partners won't give, intimacy.

Sei receives an email by mistake from Kazuaki. What begins as a mistake quickly becomes a connection between two people who desire love and sex.

Sei and Kazuaki work for the same company and after an event planned by Kazuaki the 2 men are talking in the rain. How long before Sei and Kazuaki learn of their connections to the other.
