what i will say is that the person who informed me of this bill months ago never specified the bill id and only specified the date it will take effect

when questioned what the bill id was they simply said they didnt know which i find suspicious considering that they knew only the date and not the id aswell which is the most important info i should be knowing

despite this allegedly only targetting porn sites my state is incredibly fascist and incredibly bigotted

meaning that they can and very well could target sites that are not porn sites such as twitter tumblr and instagram and if they do those platforms will geoblock alabama as they cannot change tos and community guidelines for just one state

this bill could also target any content online that is dubbed 'harmful to minors' which can and most likely will target (including but not limited to) queer content sexual health/ex content and content about abuse mental illness or addiction

i need your help getting it sued qnd shot down so i dont lose everything i have left

the internet is my only safe space and the only way i can talk to my bf (aka the single thing keeping me alive atm)

Greetings fellow proponents of a free and uncensored internet. We've been fighting a hard and stressful fight this year trying to ensure that the internet as we know it remains as it is. It's tiring and stressful and we all keep doing it because we want to keep from losing the internet that's given us freedom and the ability to do what we love. We've been sending our emails, calling our representatives, and signing our petitions to all do our parts and I'm very proud of every one of you for doing such.

And now, I come to you all with yet one more thing that you can do. Possibly even easier than constantly calling and emailing people. Something that's really quite simple for any adult to do.

Cut the hydra's head and burn the stump for good. This year, we actually have the opportunity to vote some of the biggest sponsors of the bills that pose the greatest danger to our internet out of office. Which could prevent any further attempts to keep popping up their bills over and over again. Including one of the two main backers of KOSA.

Below are a couple of Senators who are up for re-election this very November, and who you have a chance of giving the boot for a chance to salt the earth of at least a couple of these dangerous bills. Or at least make it harder for them to make a comeback.

Senator Marsha Blackburn (Republican - Tennessee) - One of the two major sponsors of the dreaded KOSA.

Senator Ted Cruz (Republican - Texas) - One of the major sponsors of the newer Kids Off Social Media Act that was introduced earlier this month.

Senator Christopher Murphy (Democrat - Connecticut) - One of the main sponsors of the Protecting Kids On Social Media Act.

While getting these three out of office would not fully solve the problem, getting them voted out could give us a fighting chance! So if you or any of your friends, enemies, frenemies, occasional acquaintances, or distant cousins thrice removed live in those states and want to give us a chance to get some of the hottest irons out of the proverbial fire, then keep your eyes on those elections, ensure your voter registration is all up to date, and use what little power we as voting adults have in this crapstorm of a nominally democratic system to get them out of there so we can have a chance to breathe a little easier!

While obviously there may be other considerations for some people when voting certain people out of office, and you may choose for certain people over others due to some issues outweighing others, these are my suggestions to you if you would like to focus on this issue in particular. Do what is best for you, but if the free and private internet is important to you, then I ask you to place some genuine consideration on this.

So Google banned AO3 from showing up in search results in Germany. What now?

Start using (and paying for, if you must) standard VPN services that offer a wide range of international servers to choose from.

Stop using Google. Use Brave, for example. DuckDuckGo has also started filtering content just recently, so don't go there.

For that matter, use different search engines from time to time and avoid those based on google algorithms. Startpage, for example, uses google result. They're committed to privacy but not to neutrality.

Be aware that your government wants to curate your internet experience for you. It's all about control. They treat you like children, so be aware that they're trying to install "child safety" measures that you're probably not even aware of. The internet is a huge open space, but the things they permit you to see are getting fewer by the day, whether it's people, porn, or politics.

De-centralize your own internet experience. Don't use just one social network, one platform, use ALL of them. Just so that in case you're banned somewhere, you have a space to migrate to.

Back up your works. Back up your works. Back up your works. Do not use company-owned cloud spaces as back-up, save your works the old-fashioned way on external devices.

Start looking into peer-to-peer networks and blockchain technoly. Just in case.

I made 3 phonecalls today to my representatives in order to oppose censorship of the internet. It's my Constitutional right as a USAmerican to yell really loud about government policy I don't approve of.

I do not approve of internet censorship, criminalization of anything LGBT+, or criminalization of Sex Work. I don't agree that censorship or destroying end-to-end encryption will protect children online, and in fact I think it will make online spaces worse for them.

I also don't agree that telecommunications policies should be centered around children in the first place, since adults use the internet too.

FYI, On Dec 14,2022, Sen Mike Lee Utah Rep introduced a bill Interstate Obscenity Definition Act. Proposal would redefine virtually all pornography as Obscenity under federal law and therefore render it illegal for Interstate or foreign transmission. This would affect your site. I hope you will fight this and tell lawmakers not to support this bill. Your First Admendment rights must be protected. Also tell your viewers to tell lawmakers not to support this. 1969 US Supreme Court ruled Stanley vs Georgia that possession of obscene material is not a crime.
