Tony Dalton's writings are liked in the US

Tony Dalton's writing career continues to go from strength to strength, and he is already writing a series for American television and has been invited by Jennifer López's production company to join their ranks.

The series he is creating is called Gone and tells the story of a man who, after undergoing plastic surgery on his face, wakes up months later with the face of another person.

And from López's office he received a phone call to send them what he had done.

Both requests, he said, came after he wrote "Live Bet" for rapper 50 Cent, which will be made into a feature film.

"Everything has come to me from there... The series was first in Spanish, then they talked to me to see if there would be the possibility of sending it and writing it in English." “I've met with them twice now... De Nueva Orleans al Sahel: La desigual cobertura del terrorismo

Este lunes, el NYT dedicó su resumen diario a hablar del “resurgimiento” del terrorismo, partiendo del último atentado en Nueva Orleans. Para documentarlo, el texto hace una lista de algunos ataques ocurridos en los últimos años. Aunque sí se menciona algunos eventos sucedidos en países no occidentales, la mayor parte de la lista señalada habla de ataques ocurridos en Occidente. Y sí, luego hace algunas referencias a algunas ramas de ISIS que permanecen activas fuera de Occidente. Pero de pronto, un texto así deja la impresión de que lo que sucede en términos de terrorismo en Occidente es algo similar o comparable a lo que sucede en otras partes del globo. Permítame ponerlo de esta manera: nada más alejado de los datos. Solo basta echar un ojo al Índice Global de Terrorismo del IEP durante los últimos 10 años para darse cuenta de que: (1) en el momento en que más atentados se cometían en Occidente, solo el 2% de las muertes por terrorismo ocurría en países miembros de la OCDE, el otro 98% ocurría fuera de éstos (solo 5 países concentraban 80% de las muertes por terrorismo); hoy por supuesto, la proporción de atentados en Occidente es mucho menor; (2) el terrorismo está resurgiendo, en efecto, pero desde hace ya varios años sin que esto se refleje en un importante número de ataques en Occidente, no aún; y (3) las regiones más afectadas por terrorismo en el mundo son el Sahel africano y África Occidental, apenas mencionadas en el texto del NYT solo como parte de la lista. Apenas hace pocas semanas, un ataque en Burkina Faso (no mencionado en la lista) dejó 600 personas muertas, y los atacantes son ligados a Al Qaeda, no a ISIS. Así que es necesario retomar algunos temas relacionados a esa región ahora que algunos medios vuelven a hablar de terrorismo.

“Trump ya es el único ‘show’ en la ciudad, y ni siquiera es aún el presidente”, escribió el periodista Ben Samuels hace tres días.  Que si va a tomar el Canal de Panamá por la fuerza. Que si va a renombrar el Golfo de México. Que si Dinamarca tiene o no tiene derechos sobre Groenlandia. Este tipo de declaraciones ocurren en el marco de una combinación de promesas y amenazas que tienen ya meses de estarse expresando. Y entonces, pasa exactamente lo que Trump desea que pase. Como siempre. Acapara la atención. Solo se habla de él. No solo en México, sino en todo el planeta se producen reacciones y respuestas a sus expresiones. Mediante esa conducta, Trump provoca un entorno en el que él se mueve con absoluta comodidad—el conflicto, el caos, la especulación acerca de “si habla en serio” o no—un entorno que es, de hecho, alimentado por las reacciones que él mismo detona. Según Hopwood, los seres humanos tendemos a comportarnos de manera complementaria. A una conducta fría, respondemos con frío. A una conducta cálida, respondemos con calor. Y a una conducta agresiva, respondemos con agresión. La pregunta que nos tenemos que hacer, según esta tesis, es qué sucede si reaccionamos de forma no complementaria. En el caso de Trump, tenemos ya una vasta experiencia acerca de su personalidad y podemos revisitar una gran cantidad de eventos que podrían arrojarnos luces.
