Dodge Challenger T/A
The Trans American Sedan Championship came around in 1966, and it was mostly a Ford-Chevrolet turf war in its first five seasons, with no real competition from other manufacturers. The Z/28 and the Boss 302 (Camaro and Mustang) were clubbing each other over yonder, and Chrysler only bothered to rejoin the fun in 1970 after running only in the first two years.
1970 was the only year in the original Trans Am format when all pony car brands were represented on the tracks by factory-backed teams, thanks to the late arrival of the Plymouth-Dodge twins, the E-body Barracuda and Challenger. Mother Mopar didn’t impress, though, and the two siblings left the competition at the end of the season.
However, to run in Trans Am, all cars had to abide by the Sports Car Club of America rule, which stated that a minimum of 2,500 vehicles sold to the general public were required for the respective nameplate to be allowed to run on the street circuits. Since it was the only all-new car launched in 1970, the Dodge Challenger was replicated in a most desirable 340-cube Six-Pack form, the single-year Challenger T/A.
Although the rules were crystal clear about the production numbers required to homologate it, the 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A did not make the bar, stopping at 2,399 examples. That’s a rare Mopar, no matter how we look at it, and it usually draws attention, especially when one pops up for sale. But strangely, there’s one example in Utah that seems to fall short of buyer’s interest, given how it’s been on the market for ten weeks, and no one bought it.v

I’m not sure if I can request this and I don’t know much about Halloween but I can totally imagine the first year gang starting a little pumpkin farm at Ramshackle. They’d carve pumpkins together and maybe sell some of them to earn a little pocket money
If it’s too much, no worries. just ignore this. Have a great day
.。*♡ A/n: This is such a lovely idea tbh, now i kinda of want to do something like this with my friends aaaa. This was supposed to be posted at 6am as always and i forget to queue it lol. Anyway, enjoy it darling!
Tumblr media
The Ramshackle Dorm had never been busier nor more vibrant than now. It all started with a simple idea from Ace: “Hey, why don’t we grow some pumpkins here?” he had said a sunny afternoon, eyes glinting with mischief as gestured to the dead garden of his dorm.
“We can carve them for Halloween, and maybe even sell a few. Easy money, right?” He turned to Epel, who, just as mischievously, nodded.
With a few enthusiastic nods from Jack and Deuce, the plan was set in motion. Soon, even Sebek, who had initially scoffed at the idea as "a frivolous waste of time," found himself secretly invested when Malleus found out and praised him for having a hobby with a bunch of friends.
Days turned into weeks, and the once dead, wild yard of the Ramshackle Dorm was transformed. The first-year gang tilled the soil, planted seeds, and tended to their patch diligently. They took turns watering the sprouts, pulling out weeds, and shooing away curious crows. It was hard work, but there was a certain joy in it.
Jack took special pride in watching the tiny green shoots grow into fat, round pumpkins, while Epel appreciated the physical labor - he said that in that way he could gain muscles. Ace and Deuce made it a game, challenging each other to see who could grow the biggest pumpkin, which led to much bickering and laughter.
The yard was filled with the warm, earthy scent of pumpkins, and the air was filled with laughter. Each carved pumpkin was a reflection of its creator, scattered around the steps and windows of Ramshackle, glowing with flickering candles as the sun dipped below the horizon.
As the pumpkins ripened, the dorm's front yard slowly turned into a sea of orange, each pumpkin unique in size and shape. On one particularly crisp afternoon, as Halloween approached, they gathered around to start carving. Carving tools in hand, they sat in a circle, some humming, others chatting about what designs they’d make.
Ace boasted that he would create the scariest face, while Deuce shyly admitted he wanted to make a pumpkin with a cute smile so he could take a photo and sent it to his mother. Epel’s was, of course, carved with incredible detai l— a miniature masterpiece of intricate patterns, as he was used to carve apples. Jack’s was simple and classic, just like him. And Sebek, determined to outshine the rest, carved an elaborate dragon that he claimed was a tribute to his master, Malleus.
“Not bad, huh?” Ace said, admiring their work. “I mean, I could probably sell mine for way more than any of yours, but still.” He smirked, dodging a playful punch from Deuce.
“We’ll see about that,” You shot back, wiping your hands on your overalls. “Who wouldn’t want to buy one of mine?”
Throughout the day, the first-years ran the stand, chatting with students and selling their carved pumpkins. Sebek was surprisingly the best salesperson, his loud voice catching everyone’s attention and his pride making each pumpkin sound like a royal treasure. Epel made sure every customer left with a smile, slipping them a little extra vine or a perfect pumpkin seed as a token. Even Grim, though not directly involved in the growing process, found himself helping out, lured by the promise of sharing in the profits.
With their pumpkins carved, the group turned to the next phase of their plan. They set up a small stand by the gate, decorating it with the leftover vines and smaller pumpkins. A hand-painted sign read, "Pumpkins for Sale! Buy 1, Get 1 Free (if you can guess who carved it)!" It was Ace’s idea, of course, to add a little game to attract more customers. They were soon joined by curious students from other dorms, many who had heard about the little farm project and wanted to see the fruits (or rather, gourds) of their labor.
You still were surprised that their idea really attracted people. Even Sam was there, examining the pumpkins.
By the end of the evening, the pumpkin patch looked a bit emptier, but your pockets were a little heavier. All of you were tired, but it was the good kind of tired, where your cheeks hurt from smiling and your muscles ache in a satisfying way. As you sat together on the steps of Ramshackle, trapped between Deuce and Ace, watching the last of the daylight fade, there was a warm sense of accomplishment between them.
“This was a good idea,” Jack said, breaking the comfortable silence. “We should do it again next year.”
“Yeah,” Epel said, stretching out his arms. “Maybe we’ll even beat the big guys at their own game. Imagine if this little patch becomes the talk of Halloween.”
"What if other dorms try to do something like this, though?" You asked them.
You had so much fun those past few months, working at their side after clubs ended and the homework was made. You laughed, you chased them when they teamed up to tease you. Overall, it was the most fun you had since coming to this world.
Ace, who was using your left shoulder as a pillow, leaned up so he could see your eyes. "If this happens..." he looked at the other boys before catching your eyes again. "Then we'll crush them, no doubt."
"Figuratively speaking, right?"
Deuce smiled spread through his face as Epel laughed and Sebek and Jack tried to hide their face from you.
"Yeah... Figuratively speaking, of course, Prefect."
The others nodded, their eyes bright with ideas about what to do if the other students tried to do something like that.
As the night settled in, the carved pumpkins flickered warmly, casting playful shadows across the yard. And you felt as if, for just a moment, like you were back home with your small, happy family — gathered around a shared project, their laughter and camaraderie filling the air with something brighter than any candle could provide.
If you were here the next year, then you wanted to do the same thing with them again. And if you aren't... You wanted them to continue that little tradition.

Chapter 10: Only weakness greatest strength
_____________________________________
"Look I don't know what your deal is buddy..."
You didn't mean to sound so condescending and self conceited, maybe it was the reflex response you unfortunately possessed in deflecting difficult situations. You had memories of outwitting your competitors by feigning confidence, most of the times it surprisingly works, but this certainly wasn't such an instance. The man grunts angrily, his slightly pendulous nose raising at the tip as his facial muscles contracts into a frown.
"Hand over the golden watch" he spat, contempt in every syllable. "Piltie..."
"No to both, actually!" You wave your hand vaguely as if sending an irritating mosquito on its merry way, not even meeting his gaze as you practically stood in his looming shadow.
"I'm not going to give you the watch buddy, and no- I'm not a...Piltie..."
The latter part of your words makes him unclench his fists and relax his shoulders to a miniscule degree, still the disconcerting veins made you weary.
"Hand over the watch, woman... Or pay the price..." The giant hisses. "I don't like to chit-chat" His teeth grinds against each other.
It was high time that your fight or flight kicks in and you either desperately scratch or bite your attacker or let your legs take you far far away from here, but perhaps your added strength shut the response down, taking the control panel of your brain and toying around with it.
"Sorry bud, it's not for sale." You challenge, smirking.
His teeth bares from the crevices of his lips, scars littering the area, a growl from his throat. "Time to say your prayers!" He swipes with a massive hand in your direction, which you deflect quickly, bending your knees sliding to the gravel filled ground, barely missing his hit.
"I’m giving you a warning buddy..." You smirk, eyes glinting with confidence.
“Let's see if you can talk after I rip your throat out!” the man challenges, the muscles on his back unpleasantly rippling with the rage he felt.
“Now you've done it, bud…”
You could almost see yourself walking away from this field triumphantly, if only anyone was around here to see your victory other than the destructive machines in the distance. Dust swirles as he skids into lower ground, preparing to take you down.
You're not a fighter, not the physical, traditional kind anyways. You would take intellectual battles over punches and kicks any day, but something strikes you- an emotion never felt before coursing through your veins, as you distance yourself from your opponent, for the first time in your life, not because you were scared, but because you needed space to act. As your legs positioned themselves farther apart in defense, and you looked him in the eye, you heard the thrum of your restless heart in your ear. You expect this to be the magic in your action-thriller loving soul.
You were already contemplating what to narrate your victory as, dreaming about how cool you could look- like in the movies, perhaps? Your imagination was running wild, when the man charged at you, his fist drawn back in order to pulverize you when it charges forward.
You sloppily drop to your knees again, rolling out of the way as his feet licks up dust, landing behind him and giving you the opportunity to deliver a powerful blow to his spine- and immediately regret it.
“Oh just…I’m sorry!” You say, as he goes crashing down into the rocky floor, the sickening crunch of rubble pressing against flesh makes you want to squirm in discomfort. It looked like it hurt.
Grunting, he swipes his leg viciously in an attempt to get up and also to kick you. You dodge away quickly, covering beneath a huge boulder. Suddenly, you hear the boulder’s crevices crack and shattering into rubble- he had cracked it into pieces with his bare hands! Turning and getting up, you block two mighty fists thrown your way with every intent on splintering your ribs.
Your arms shook with the sheer intensity of blocking his fists, each of your hands covering each of his fists, his face inches away from yours.
Why was it so…heavier than you thought?
You didn't even have the time to finish the thought before being pushed back roughly, your head hitting the rubbles, nearly making you see stars. Instinctually, your knees bend to kick him away in the chest- it didn't work, but you managed to kick dirt into his eyes, making him growl and slow down before he strangles you, providing you with ample time to scramble to your feet and take cover.
You tap the Chronoporter, anxiously, panting as your knees shook.
“I detect a sharp spike in your heart rate and oxygen intake rate. Are we running a marathon?” The mechanical voice asks innocently.
“No! Chronoporter, we have a problem!” You speak, voice shaking. “My strength…it- it's not working!”
“That's impossible! Your mass and force conditions cannot be altered unless you break the barriers of dimensions, zero gravity or similar circumstances. You haven't traveled anywhere beyond this dimension- I know. I don't see it.” Chronoporter says.
“Zero gravity…” you murmur, eyes going wide in realization.
Last night…
Why was everything from last night coming back to punish you?
First Viktor, and now this…
“Y/N?”
“Uh? Y-yeah, I-I think that zero gravity stuff…did happen.” You stutter.
“Then you're bound to lose almost 45% of the force rates you could instill.”
Your legs shook, yet froze, your hands shaking with fear. Forty five percent, against a fighter who knew the effects of shimmer?! You're lucky you managed to survive till now. There's no way you could manage to beat him.
All the victorious imagination which your overconfident mind had crafted up till now felt foolishly comical and made you embarrassed.
Out of the corner of your eye, you catch sight of the man picking up a huge rock, ready to hurl it in your direction. Your mind reels. If you catch the rock at the right angle, maybe you could hurl it back with just force of propulsion? Oh, here it comes!
The solid rock digs into your skin, making you scream, it didn't work out. You had no strength. The jagged ends cut through your skin, leaving behind trails of blood, the pain shooting through to your pain receptors, as you fall back- pulling your arm out from beneath the rubble. You're just glad it's not broken, just very badly bruised. When his fists come barreling down to your torso, however- you push the boulder onto his chest, rendering him motionless temporarily at the air loss as you buy yourself time to run away. To your disappointment you don't make it very far as the ground trips you and his grasp closes around your angle, pulling you back down to smash your body against the rock.
You'd like to think you were still alive and barely conscious because of the remaining mass you had after your dimensional journey.
“I was about to let you go after you gave me your fancy watch.” He struts towards your limp body, lying among the rubble.
“But you just had to be cocky…” he cracks his knuckles, now standing not directly over you, but a distance. To make the impact of his fists worse.
He raises his fist, standing tall over you, a malicious grin baring yellowish teeth as he prepares to sign your death warrant.
“Say goodbye.”
You were a goner… never should have left the academy…never should have-
BOOM!
Plumes of smoke rose from where he stood, uprooting the stones buried beneath the hard earth at the power of it, throwing him away, making him spiral into the rocks facefirst, hitting his head on one. An explosion. Powerful enough to send tremors through the dry earth, leaving a scar on the top in the form of a crack resembling lightning. Your eyes widen as you take in…
Blue sparkles rising from the ground. Twinkling gently in the sunlight, as it guides your gaze up and farther away from the scene.
A tall lanky figure stood there, panting, and looking bewildered at his own actions, an equally anxious shorter figure by his side, clutching at what appeared to be beautiful blue crystals which sparkled brilliantly in the sun.
Your eyes fill with tears of relief and joy as you beheld Viktor and Sky, who were now hurriedly making their way over to you, worry written all over their faces- not just simple concern. You attempted a small smile or even a greeting when your facial muscles painfully reminded you that they were damaged and bleeding, making you flinch and groan.
“Y/N! Oh no no no….” distraught faces and hurried footsteps.
You felt yourselves getting raised up by two gentle, yet determined arms going around each of your shoulders as your arms went around each of their shoulders, heavily leaning against them as your legs threatened to give away beneath you.
“Y/N, o Janna- you're bleeding!” The feminine voice on your right said frantically, holding you securely as they both take you away to safety. You could only register frantic hyperventilation from the voice on your left, however, and leaned gently towards the man to comfort him subconsciously, when your consciousness finally slipped away, finally in the arms of your angels.
________________________________
“I sincerely hope I didn't kill that man…”
“You did the right thing! What else were you supposed to do? Stand there and watch as he pulverizes her?”
“Yes, we had no other option but, still…”
“Hey, We have her now, it's okay, Viktor…”
Snippets of conversation, the plush of the mattress beneath your body, the softness of bandages around your arms, on the back of your head and your ankle, and the gentle press of soothingly wet cloth on your face- removing the dirt and grime with tender touches guided by long beautiful phalanges of the man who sat next to your bed.
“Sky, would you get some smaller bandages too? She has cuts all over her face.” He says with a sigh as you listen to gentle footsteps guided away from the room to fetch more medications and bandages. Sunlight streaming in through the white curtains hurt your eyes making your eyelashes tremble even though your eyelids were shut.
“Y/N… Y/N are you awake?” The concern and anxiety in his voice made your heart melt.
“Five more minutes…”
“Y/N!”
Your lips stretch slightly into a playful smile, your eyes opening up to behold the worried face of your object of admiration.
“Oh lord, you had me worried sick!” Viktor's accentuated voice seemed clearer now somehow.
“I…I mean…us.” He corrects, scratching the back of his neck before letting his gaze wander to the door. As if on cue, Sky walks in, carrying some medications, and some bandages. Seeing you awake, her eyes light up, as she rushes towards your side.
“Y/N! Oh thank goodness!” She grips your hand, grinning happily, with relief. “If you haven't woken up, we were going to transfer you to the medical wing.” She giggles lightly at the incredulous expression you wore in response.
“This isn't the hospital?” You look around, tilting your neck gently to here and there, and catching glimpses of a table with scattered books, papers, coffee mugs, and several charts, and a bookshelf with untidy arrangements, a chair piled with clothes, and a small cabinet.
“No. This is my bedroom.” Viktor replies.
“Oh!” You smirk, directing your gaze to his face. “So this is your bedroom and not where you sneaked in Jayce and I last night…” you revel silently in the way his eyes widen and his mouth opens and closes, hand hovering in midair as if trying to catch a thought.
“Ugh! No, that wasn't! Will you ever let that go?!”
“No.” You smirk.
“Viktor was worried if the medical wing would ask for your documents and get you expelled if we took you there. Luckily because of mandatory medical training, he and I could help.” Sky explains helpfully.
“You guys literally swooped in and saved me!” You exclaim.
“I have to go, I still have some unfinished work back in the techmaturgy department. I’ll come back, and when I'm back- you need to tell me what happened, okay?” Sky says, making her way to the door as she speaks in a hurry, her expression imploring.
“Yes, thanks again sky!” You say, grinning sweetly at her (as sweetly as you could with wounds on your face) as she smiles back and goes out of the room, leaving you and Viktor alone.
Silence envelops the both of you for some moments before you both break it simultaneously.
“Viktor I..”
“Y/N I'm..”
You stop, looking at each other and then cracking into smiles and gentle chuckles, breaking the unspoken tension. Viktor starts to gently open the bandages before sitting closer to you, silently asking for permission to proceed. Blushing, you gently tilt your head to the side, showing him the wound in your cheek. You feel the cotton of the bandages against the cuts, and wince, making Viktor apologize in gentle murmurs.
“What happened there?” He questions as he gently presses the bandage on your cheek to make it stick.
“Ah, I think that man wanted to rob me… my expensive watch, you know?”
“Rob you? He looked like he would've taken your life!” He breathes, his eyes widening.
“Ey, maybe he was desperate.” You hum.
“We were lucky to have found you at the right time. A student told us that he saw you wandering in the construction sites… you shouldn't have gone that far!” He says, as he opens the next bandage to apply it to your face. When he faces you however, his expression is rather sheepish and guilty, unspoken reasons between you.
"You saved me though- did you throw the hex crystal at him?!" You suddenly ask, your mind wandering back to the explosion.
Viktor nervously twiddles his fingers. "I, well...noticed that they are highly explosive but still wouldn't reach your range, with the miniscule portion of it that I threw. Luckily, I measured it out correctly."
"You would've broken multiple rules right there..." You mumble, trying not to glare at him.
"But you're alive!" He leans forward.
“Didn't you ask me to leave?”
“Yes, but not to get yourself hurt or worse!” He says, desperate. “I… I shouldn't have said that” plain remorse.
“What…?”
“I…I changed my mind.”
His words astonished you, as you sat up in surprise, yelping softly at the pain in your spine. Viktor hands shoot up to your shoulders to help you, gently lowering you back to bed.
“You’re joking right?” You say, as your head makes contact with the pillow again.
“I’m not… please Y/N, forgive me!” He says, looking at you with an unreadable expression.
“The night we… we broke into the lab, after we got caught, Heimerdinger lectured me too condescendingly… I… I was an idiot to let that get to me, it almost made me lose sight of what really matters in science!” His gaze meets yours, seeking forgiveness.
“It's passion and the thirst for knowledge! Neither of which even my professor follows now- given the circumstances.”
He explains what he saw in the list Sky brought him, and how deeply it rattled all his beliefs.
“Heimerdinger made me feel as if I was the one who didn't belong, when regarding transparency of actions from the academy… he is highly hypocritical!” He says, passionately gesturing with his arms, looking at you.
“He would never acknowledge how almost all the piltovians get into the academy, and almost no one from the undercity, would he?” You gently ask, looking at him sadly.
“No. Maybe it's time I do act as a zaunite here.” Golden eyes shine with determination.
“You said it yourself, Y/N. It's time that I show them what we really stand for.”
You support, gently extending an arm to touch his shoulder, your eyes glimmering with excitement.
“So please Y/N…” he extends his right hand towards you.
“Will you be my assistant?”
Your heart skips a beat in the tenderness of the question, your eyes stuck on his hand and then gently traveling up to his expectant face. You gently press your palms against the mattress and raise yourself up to eye level with him, sitting up. He quickly helps you up. When you meet his gaze, you smile.
“On one condition.”
“What is it?” Viktor leans forward, all ears.
Your arm extends towards him, and when he doesn't resist, you gently press your palms against his heart, as you feel it picking up pace even beneath all the layers of cloth it is underneath, at the gentle contact.
“I rather like this… will you give one to me?” You smile.
Viktor stutters, a lovely shade of red spreading across his cheeks like the red of a ripe apple. “I- umm…well-”
“The uniform, Viktor.”
The blush only managed to spread further to the tips of his ears, as he stuttered and coughed pointedly to his fist, chuckling bashfully.
“Uh- YES! Ofcourse, the uniform, yes, yes- I will register one for you soon!”
You chuckle, enjoying his expressions.
“We- we'll get the paperwork sorted out soon. The professors won't pay much attention to the assistant's paperwork anyways, you'll be fine.” He quickly explains, the blush softly dissipating, leaving behind a pleasant smile.
“Then we're good!” You giggle, and Viktor pats your back, his eyes crinkling at the corners with his smile.
“Welcome to the team, Y/N.”

“How shameful.” Silco’s voice, dripping with dangerous contempt, slithered unto the man's broken ears, making him flinch.
“I d-didn't know there were three of them, I swear I was about to end her!”
“You fought with a defenseless person, completely and utterly weaker than you and came back, defeated and wounded like this…” his slender fingers gesture irritably to the man's state.
“I can go back! This time I would be successful! Please, just don't-”
“Perhaps it would be better if you receive some more liquid strength.” The lethal words send a shock wave up the man's spine as Silco's eye darts to the vials of treacherous purple liquids swirling mesmerizingly in its container.
“No…No, please! Not again! I-I don't…!” Visions from a not so distant past clouds his mind as he tries to keep the painful screeches and blood curdling screams which comes from the depths of his chest. If the fluid is pumped into his veins again...no, no, NO!
The massive blow to the back of his head by one of his other men was unexpected; he fell to his knees, knocked unconscious the second time as his cries for mercy died out.
Silco hopes the small blue haired girl sleeping in the next room hadn't heard the commotion. He would hate for her to wake up that way.

Toki Reads Shonen Jump 2024, Issue #50
Tumblr media
One Piece: Loki figures out he can leverage Luffy's and Shanks' relationship to free himself from six years of imprisonment; Robin returns to her pre-timeskip haircut so Saul would recognize her, and the fandom rejoiced. Brook, who also plans to use his hair to prove his identity to Laboon, being the one to cut Robin's hair is the cutest thing in the entire series
HxH: Hinrigh sees through Bolonenov's shapeshifting trick basically immediately; Chrollo reveals that he's trying to Phantom Thieve Kakin's national treasures specifically to get a power up to kill Hisoka, even if it costs his life. The death flags for the entirety of the Phantom Troupe are so numerous that Chrollo might as well be speaking in semaphore
Yozakura: Asa foresaw the plan to use Momo to break his Conquest, but Momo foresaw that Asa would foresee the plan and planned to use Kyoichiro's True Blooming to overcome Asa's contingency. I do not for a second buy that Kyoichiro is in any kind of danger from using his True Blooming
Undead Unluck: Julia dives into Victor's memories and learns how Undead and Unjustice first manifested; Victor comes back swingin'!; while I'm a tad underwhelmed by the first loop, the VictorJuiz content is really sweet and VictorJulia is a shockingly handsome couple
Roboco: Gorilla and Motsuo's friendly bullying is revealed to be a limiter for Bondo, who would otherwise allow their kindness to go to his head. This has always been one of my favorite bits in the series, and seeing it expanded upon was cute, funny and endearing
Sakamoto: Tenkyu takes Shin's "fortune-telling" to heart and doesn't retaliate when Shin tries to kill him, instead opting to run away; he then runs into Atari and learns the truth, immediately and gruesomely going back to killing afterward. I'm getting really endeared to Tenkyu, seeing the gears turn in his head is fascinating
EluSam: The final battle with Sadamune begins; Kojiro has earned more respect than he ever expected as a bastard child, Ayako is taller than ever, and the classic band of misfits have finally returned. I still don't care for the way Matsui depicts war scenes, but he really can compose single vignettes really well; Sadamune casually dodging Tokiyuki's arrow was easily the highlight of the chapter
Witch Watch: Moi realizes that Kuon really does have a vague and suspicious past, and was part of the previous Witch Watch team; he was also the inspiration for Uron Mirage, explaining both the similarities to the main cast and the vague storytelling style. That's a hell of a mystery that no one thought was a mystery and didn't even really need solving, but damn if it didn't just get solved
Blue Box: Chinatsu gets a nice recharge hug from Taiki, and fails to work up the nerve to kiss him; Chinatsu's dad has returned from The War(TM) to presumably throw a wrench in their relationship. I legit forgot they were living together, it feels like it hasn't been a factor in decades
Akane-Banashi: Issho, blood still running down his entire face from the beating he literally just took, deliriously listens to Kashiwaya's rakugo and has an epiphany that inspires him to become a rakugoka. The art of this chapter is great; the aged color pages, the conveyance of Issho's perceptions, and my favorite, the motion lines on Kashiwaya's actions creating the illusion of his pantomime's physicality
Kill Blue: The Home-Ec Club is challenged by the Maid and Butler Club to see who can get the most sales at the culture fest; as they've recruited a trio of Unicorns, this will certainly turn into a Mitsuoka Challenge. WAIT, THE PRECURE THING WAS RELEVANT?!
Nue: Gakuro uses his shadow-manipulation abilities in a way that I actually think is kind of cool for once and directly compares his feelings for Fujino to Rido's feelings for Mizuki; he gets stabbed for his troubles. If Gakuro somehow reneges on IMPLICITLY SAYING HE'S IN LOVE WITH FUJINO, I'm going to start biting
Kagurabachi: Hiruhiko reveals that he's never been to school, and heavily implies that the Sword Bearers are war criminals instead of heroes; Samura fails to beat the Billy Undead Unluck allegations and off-screens Uruha, allowing Hiruhiko to form a contract with Kumeyuri. While Samura's betrayal is perhaps a tad too sudden, I'm very interested in his character conflict; Hiruhiko wielding Kumeyuri after losing both of his arms is pretty sick imagery
Chojo: The gang want to show their appreciation to Chojo with a party, so they ask people who knew him in his younger days for ideas; they end up throwing a surprisingly bleak party where they thank him for being born. The look into Chojo's past does help flesh him out a bit, but I can't help but feel there's something important being obscured
Astro Royale: Himuro takes the Astro-enhancing drug and fuses with his Link; Hibaru allows himself to get frozen to save Kinpa, leaving her to fight Himuro and save the day. I'm shocked how much I enjoyed "I just don't like you" as Himuro's motivation in this arc, but the idea of his actions being 100% personal makes his abuse of power all the more apparent, as he's not even hiding the fact that he's doing so
Murakami: Kuin fuses with Sanmoto Gorozaemon to make him vulnerable to attacks, but Murakami uses it as an excuse to hang out with Kuin and Sanmoto instead; Sanmoto learns to love humanity, and reveals Murakami's secret heritage, this immediately turns out to be irrelevant since he's adopted; the series ends abruptly with a title drop. I'll admit, it kinda grew on me by the end with its cast and consistently improving sense of humor, but the last batch of jokes about Murakami's past was a bit of a weak ending
Kiyoshi: Kiyoshi faces the Great Demon Lord, Asuta Roth, who tanks all of Kiyoshi's previously established moves, though not without taking enough damage to at least be entertained. Asuta seems to be Kiyoshi's thematic inverse, so I look forward to how Usui continues to choreograph their fight
Hima-Ten: Kanna and Himari run into Tenichi while clothes shopping and drag him to a much trendier store than he intended; Kanna starts to worry that Honoka isn't the only rival she has to worry about. All of this can be solved with Kanna kissing girls
Ichi: Ichi turns Hisame into sashimi, and she's so impressed with how Ichi was able to bring out her literal inner beauty that she offers to date him (how she will do this in rock form, I have no idea); Ichi laments the loss of his sashimi boat. I am SO sure that Minakata, Ichi's mentor, is going to turn out to be a villain later
Shinobi: Umineko finally gets some attention and reveals through his inner monologue that he's a Yodaka fanboy; Hachikuma goes on the offensive in broad daylight, threatening countless civilians. The idea that Umineko loves Yodaka but, both inwardly and outwardly reacts with complete deadfaced stoicism, is absolutely hilarious to me
Hakutaku: We get a bit more insight into Zenji's dead brother, and Noto strongarms him into joining her team; Hikuma starts working on the game he promised last week, but it's gonna take two months to make, so that'll really show that mean lady. I kind of liked the transition into the reveal of Zenji's brother's coffin, but much like the rest of the series so far, it was inelegant to say the least; I'd really love to see this author improve
Every week over on twitter, WSJSurvey does a poll for folks' top 3 manga of the week (just like Jump does), and this was the first week I actually had a tough time deciding my favorites!
Obviously UU was the best, but Ichi didn't quite scratch the itch this time (probably because I'm bitter about being wrong again...). Kiyoshi's choreography and Roboco's endearing displays of Friendship ended up winning out, but Kagurabachi's weighty twist and Akane-Banashi's artistry both made extremely compelling cases

Checklist Challenge 7
I feel like I should subtitle this one "The Hunt for Don!"
Since Mr Lothario didn't show up at any of the gyms (or anywhere else Alexa had visited), we had to venture to the Caliente household and hope for the best. Luckily -and unluckily - everyone was home. So she finally got the meet the infamous Don... but they couldn't just speed-run through to doing the deed, as Alexa wasn't about to incur the wrath of all three Caliente women.
For the moment, she settled for an introduction, then added him on Social Bunny and sent a couple of flirty messages there. After a little more fishing and Practicing Speech to get that Charisma up, she headed back to the Rattlesnake Juice Bar and called Don to see if he'd join her.
He agreed, showed up on the lot, walked up to the door - then immediately turned around and dipped out. 😒
Saturday, Alexa hit her goal for the Side Hustle simoleons.
Tumblr media
Since maxed Handiness comes into play later, these funds went to buying a woodworking table. Once she builds up a stock of little statues, a sales table can be the next purchase so she can sell those, her excess honey from the bee box, and collectibles.
(This is also about the point where her "Outdoorsy" Lifestyle started working against us. Even though the woodworking table is outside in the yard, apparently anything on her home lot counts as indoors; she kept getting Bored moodlets from "being stuck inside" even when there was rain falling on her little blonde pixel head.)
Saturday morning followed the usual routine: tend garden, eat grilled cheese, pop over to The Realm to see what tomes, crystals & ingredients are on offer for the day, then switch out between several different skills so she doesn't get too bored of any one.
In the evening just because The Watcher was feeling grudgy, she tried to spend time with Don again, this time heading to the bar in Evergreen Harbor. (Hey, Dumpster Woohoo is on the list too, and Don was being trash anyway, so...)
This time he at least walked inside the building - and even had a couple of interactions with Alexa. Then he walked back outside, coughed dramatically, and vanished again.
[I vented to @whyhellosims about this, then wondered if maybe Neighborhood Stories or MCCC had shoe-horned him into an evening job, and that's why he kept leaving. She suggested the "invite to hang out at current lot" might be buggy at the moment, and to try Travel With instead.]
SO to try to dodge both possible issues, Alexa skipped her first chance at the Flea Market, and at around lunchtime on Sunday invited Don to Travel With her to the Salty Paws Saloon after a quick switch of their regular garbage can for a dumpster.
Lo and behold, the bartender knew how to make Cupid Juice - a nice little boost to the mood I had not expected but certainly wouldn't complain about! And with that help, finally...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The two-fer was accomplished! ...and now Alexa can dip out on Don, never to be seen again lol.

Strange Tales #163
Cover Date: December 1967 On-Sale Date: August 31, 1967
Tumblr media
This is the last story of the next-to-last arc of Doc's adventures on Strange Tales. For such a universe shattering arc, the finale has a remarkably small cast and it all takes place on a single, if large, stage. These are interesting choices to wrap this up.
When we last left Doc, he was being confronted by Nebulos who is about to give him what for. Doc says look behind you. Oddly enough, this isn't an attempt at distraction, but The Living Tribunal is actually there!
Trib-y isn't there to deliver good news. "Yeah, Doc, you did what I asked, but it still kinda stinks around here so I'm gonna off Earth anyway."
Doc is very "WTF, man?! Tell me what's going on!" Trib-y refuses because Doc is basically dirt on his oddly shaped feet to Trib-y. Then Trib-y ponders about what could be causing this.
Tumblr media
Even the tribunal calls this a riddle. Trib-y may be really, really powerful but not omniscient. Even he's got to thing this trough. It seems he may have figured it out.
Tumblr media
Doc realizes that if Trib-y does away with Nebulos, nobody will know where Victoria Bentley is. Doc, of course, has the thought that he must rescue the girl he's met only once before for 10 minutes. Thus, he attacks Trib-y so he won't kill Nebulos until they wring that bit of information from the badly shaped villain.
Tumblr media
Trib-y is incensed that this bit of mortal flotsam would dare attack him and sends the attack back at Doc. Nebulos uses the moment to attack Trib-y. As Trib-y and Nebulos go back and forth, Doc worries that they'll destroy each other and attempts to aid Trib-y while asking him to reason with his foe instead. Nebulos accuses Trib-y of needing help. This only further angers the cosmic being who takes a moment from his frantic battle to attack Doc!
Tumblr media
This is a rather cinematic panel that, as far as I can tell, was not swiped by Adkins from another artist. Trib-y and Nebulos continue their skirmish. Nebulos is about to run away, but Trib-y basically says "No way, dude! This ends now! And since that big staff of yours absorbs everything thrown against it, I'm just gonna burn down this entire mother-freakin' planet!"
Nebulos protests, but Trib-y starts tearin' it down.
Tumblr media
Trib-y's fire show causes Doc's bonds to weaken and he spends an entire page avoiding falling rocks. Then he gets a bit sexist as he tries to locate the battle.
Tumblr media
This panel looks very Ditko, but I haven't located a source for it.
Doc finds them, and Trib-y tells Nebulos it's all going to poop and he needs to give Trib-y his big staff. Nebulos is like "Nah! I'm gonna cast a spell so big it's gonna eff EVERYTHING up!" But before he can, Doc swoops in and swipes the staff. Guess he likes the feeling of that big rod in his hands. Nebulos, bereft of his big staff is unable to cast his big spell and gets buried in the remains of the Planet(s) Perilous.
Doc confronts Trib-y who is impressed that Doc was able to do what he wasn't. Doc expresses his concern that with Nebulos out of the picture permanently, he's trapped in a pile of rubble and Vicky is trapped somewhere else that no one knows. Trib-y is like "I got your back, dude! I'm gonna send you to her. Of course, what waits for you there will make what you just endured like a trip to Disneyland. And I mean Disneyland before you needed an entire day to ride a single attraction." Yup! Doc is out of the frying pan and into the fire as he slides into home.
Tumblr media
I think Lawrence has a propensity to take advantage of Adkins' habit of drawing large panels to stretch his stories. The battle between The Living Tribunal and Nebulos could have been more epic. And did Doc really need to spend and entire page dodging the crumbling mountain? The Tribunal's portrayal is a bit too human. He's rash and angry. As a cosmic force he shouldn't be quite so emotional. Nebulos shouldn't be as much of a challenge as he to The Tribunal. This shows that the power of cosmic beings hasn't grown to the absolutely ridiculous levels it will in the 90s and beyond. Again, this is a story I like, but could have included more or been consolidated down to fewer pages. Well, the final Strange Tales arc awaits.

But Charlestown's most characteristic pastime had long been the reckless sport of 'looping'. The young 'looper' played by a rigid set of rules. First, he stole a car in downtown Boston. Then he roared into Charlestown, accelerating as he reached City Square, where the District 15 police station stood in a welter of bars, nightclubs, and pool halls. Often he had to take a turn around the square before the first policeman dashed for his patrol car or motorcycle. Then the chase was on: down Chelsea Street to Hayes Square, up the long slope of Bunker Hill Street to St. Francis de Sales' Church at the crest, then down again, picking up speed, often to 70 or 80 miles per hour, until a screeching left into Sullivan Square took him onto Main Street, where, dodging the stanchions of the El, he roared into City Square again, completing the 'loop'. All that remained was to ditch the car before the police caught up.
Looping was an initiation rite, proof that a Townie had come of age. But it was something else as well: a challenge flung at authority, a middle finger raised to the powers that be. Before long, looping became a kind of civic spectacle, pitting the Town's young heroes against the forces of law and order. Plans for a loop circulated well in advance. At the appointed hour, hundreds of men, women, and children gathered along Bunker Hill Street, awaiting the gladiators. When the stolen car came in sight, racing up the long hill, a cheer would rise from the spectators, followed by jeers for the pursuing policemen.
The first recorded 'loop' was performed in 1925 by a sixteen-year-old daredevil named Jimmy 'Speed King' Murphy, but most renowned of all was 'Shiner' Sheehan, the teenage son of a federal alcohol agent, whose exploits so electrified the Town that he drew round him a group of young acolytes. Membership in their 'Speeders Club' was limited to those who could produce newspaper clippings showing they had bested the police.
For some the sport proved fatal. In November 1932, two eighteen-year-olds were killed when their car, careering down Bunker Hill Street, smashed in a steel stanchion. Innocent bystanders also suffered. A twenty-two-year-old woman was killed when a car hit her as she waited for a trolley. A young attorney died while trying to cross the street.
By the early thirties, Boston's press began taunting the police for failure to capture the 'young hoodlums'. Stung, the police devised new 'anti-looping' measures. Motorcycle cops were instructed to conceal themselves by St. Francis de Sales' Church and cut the loopers off as they crested the hill. But the drivers quickly caught on, heaving bricks or firing pistols at the cops. Then plainsclothesmen were ordered to mingle with the crowds, sidle to the curb, and 'shoot to kill' as the loopers passed; undeceived by the policemen's disguises, the crowds proved so hostile that this plan too had to be abandoned.
Finally, the police devised the 'Magic Carpet', a forty-foot leather strip studded with 1,400 spikes. When the police got word of a loop, they spread the carpet across the roadway. On several occasions, it worked, but on June 5, 1934, as Patrolman James Malloy, dressed in plain clothes, unrolled the carpet across Bunker Hill Street, the car swerved directly toward him and dragged his lifeless body 125 feet. Two young Townies were charged with Malloy's murder. One confessed he had been seeking revenge on the cop for the death of two loopers in 1932.
By 1937, Charlestown's civic leaders were fed up with the practice, which had blighted the Town's reputation. A committee demanded that the Police Commissioner end looping 'at all costs'. Late that year, authorities announced that any captured looper would be publicly flogged on a platform in City Square. The plan was never implemented, but increased police surveillance led to the arrest of seventy-seven loopers in 1937 alone. The next March, Mayor Maurice Tobin ordered Bunker Hill Street dug up at three locations to create 'bottlenecks' slightly wider than an automobile wheel base and filled with low concrete pyramids. If these traps weren't negotiated at low speeds the pyramids would rupture the car's undercarriage.
