@waifufatale I feel bad I didn't know many games that I think you're after, so if you're still looking, I did some digging and here are some roguelites that the internet has described as "Hades-like." hopefully these can interest you till we get more news on Hades 2
Dead Cells—(ty @jodqriel) a roguelike metroidvania. this is critically acclaimed and it's been described as "Hades but 2D" where you fight your way through an ever-changing castle. it's supposedly hard though!
Midautumn—a dungeon-crawler with an Eastern mythology theme. there's a portal to the spirit world in your basement and you have to fight spirits (and gods?) to save your hometown.
Dandy Ace—fast-paced combat with a card system. you play as a magician trying to find and defeat an illusionist who has imprisoned you in a cursed mirror
Wizard of Legend—looks like you collect valuable spells and relics and combine them to fight through a gauntlet and become the Wizard of Legend
Curse of the Dead Gods—an isometric roguelike. your quest for riches and eternal life leads you to a cursed temple where you find a labyrinth of traps, pits, and monsters
Ravenswatch—by the same dev as COTDG above, where you play as heroes from myths and legends battling against a nightmare that's corrupting the world
Undermine—apparently this is a dungeon-crawler with rpg aspects. mine gold, upgrade yourself, and try again
Moonlighter—I forgot I had played this a long time ago, and I really enjoyed parts of it, but ended up putting it down. you play as a shopkeeper who loots dungeons by night and runs a store by day selling the things he loots.
Astral Ascent—platform roguelike with fast combat. you explore an astral prison guarded by 12 powerful mystical bosses, the Zodiacs, and challenge them with unique spells. I’ve been interested in it myself
Boyfriend Dungeon—I remember when this launched lol I laughed and meant to check it out. it's a dungeon-crawler "shack-and-slash" where your weapons can turn into people and you can date them too?
Dreamscaper—by night, you dive into your subconscious and conquer your nightmares; by day, you build relationships to unlock the power of your dreams.
Death's Door—I've also played this one but I put it down because it was too hard lol. it's not a roguelike but it's a visually stunning isometric game with an interesting plot and decent writing (from what I saw). you play as a crow
Do you happen to know any other games like transistor or Hades? sorry if it's so random but I got into them thru seeing them on your blog and have been looking for something along similar gameplay
if you haven't already, check out the rest of the Supergiant catalogue? they're also isometric action games, and although I haven't played them myself I hear good things:
Bastion—truthfully I tried this one and just couldn't get into it but it does look pretty and has good voice acting like all SG games
Pyre—honestly I've been meaning to play this for a while but I just haven't gotten around to it. it has middle child syndrome in that it gets looked over for its move hyped siblings but everything I've heard about it has been positive
I don't know if I can recommend anything with similar gameplay to Hades and Transistor, because I don't play a lot of roguelites and Transistor was so unique I'm struggling to think of a comparison. Supergiant has been really singular for me in combining storytelling with gameplay, the marriage of the two in Hades in particular I think was a masterclass akin to Portal (which I'd also recommend if you haven't played it). so a lot of these recommendations are just going to address parts of what I liked about Hades and Transistor, but not the whole package, really.
story-heavy RPG-light games with beautiful graphics with no combat:
Oxenfree—supernatural/coming-of-age story about a group of kids trapped on an island when a portal opens to another world
Night in the Woods—the story of Mae, a college dropout struggling with mental health, who moves back home to deal with friend and family problems... and something else that's in the woods
Afterparty—two friends die and get sent to hell. they hear the only way to escape is to challenge the devil to a drinking contest, so they travel the afterlife to do just that
Signs of the Sojourner—this is an interesting one where you travel to acquire goods to sell at your shop, but negotiating is difficult, and the cards in your deck will help you succeed in forging bonds in conversations. the more diverse cards you have, the more people you can interact with successfully, but you also risk losing the cards you started with, which will make your conversations back home difficult when you return to stock up.
action-heavy indie games, usually made me go "just one more map":
Apotheon—story set in a 2D Greek mythology world about a man challenged to take down the pantheon one god at a time
Into the Breach—the only other roguelite I've played, it's a turn-based strategy where you fight aliens on a grid system with robots, very Pacific Rim-esque
Cult of the Lamb—a roguelite about running your own cult full of animals. apparently it's big on the horror elements without being off-putting or too gory due to the cute graphics. I haven't played this but other people have recommended it!
Jade Order—a very short puzzle game with a neat map design

If you're looking for more narrative roguelike games like Hades, but with an Asian diaspora story like Butterfly Soup check out Midautumn!
Midautumn is a roguelike dungeon crawler about blasting evil spirits, saving your hometown from gentrification, and Asian diaspora culture. For Robin Lam, crashing at Grandma's was meant to be a break from their responsibilities. But relaxing might prove hard when the Spirit World is real, its entrance is in their basement, and they're its newest guardian.
It's out now in Early Access on Steam and Itch.io with a free demo!

The Randomizer Mode unlocks as a reward for completing the main game, but you can also unlock it and other completion rewards from a new "Unlock Completion Rewards" setting under - Options - in the main menu!
Tumblr media

Midautumn needs to determine the number of Linux players
Tumblr media
Midautumn diaspora roguelike developer is looking to prioritize game support for Linux with Windows PC. Thanks to details from developer Sherveen Uduwana. Due to makes its way onto Kickstarter soon. A series of exciting announcements at Devcom regarding the upcoming Asian diaspora roguelike, Midautumn. The game will be getting a Kickstarter campaign on September 3rd. This also means the campaign will coincide with the real world Midautumn festival. Due to kick off on September 21st. A brand new animated trailer for the game and a pre-alpha demo are also slated to launch on the same day. However, what really catches the interest, Linux support.
I think this is something we're going to use our kickstarter campaign to help determine! If we can determine a significant number of our players are on Linux and want to play the game on it, we're absolutely going to prioritize support for that!
First off, you can view the statement in the Discussions on Steam. Things get kind of interesting with the mention of "a significant number of our players are on Linux." In order to determine this, the best way to do so is via Wishlisting the game on Steam. That is, if you have Linux only selected for your Wishlisting Preferences. With the release of Midautumn due in late 2022 / early 2023, roughly.
Midautumn - Coming to Kickstarter
youtube
Midautumn boasts some absolutely stunning character portraits. As well as a unique blend of lo-fi pixel art and psychedelic spell effects. You also play as Robin Lam, a recent college grad with no clear direction. One who has resorted to crashing with their Grandmother in the fictional town of Nambo Quay, California. So, in exchange, Robin’s Grandma reveals to Robin that the Spirit World is real. Since its entrance is in the basement. Now Robin is strongarmed into being its latest protector. When you’re not blasting spirits in the ever shifting rooms of the Midautumn Spirit World. The town of Nambo Quay is full of colorful, larger than life characters. Giving you a range of people to forge bonds with. You’ll have hundreds of unique story events to learn about. And also what's really going on in this cozy, mysterious town. The Midautumn’s kickstarter demo will allow players to toggle the amount of damage the player takes. So even players who are intimidated by rogue-lites can still play and enjoy the story. This pre-alpha Windows PC demo will be an early look at the game’s opening chapter. Which you should be able to run via Wine. With a design to allow players to give early feedback during the Kickstarter campaign. Beyond their appearance at Devcom this week. Expect Midautumn to also be on display during their Kickstarter campaign at the PAX 10. Including Game Devs of Color Expo, and Steam Next Fest. If you’re as eager to know more about Midautumn. Be sure check out the Asian diaspora roguelike Kickstarter page. Then request to be notified once the campaign goes live. Alos be sure to Wishlist Midautumn on Steam for Linux.
