I always appreciate when background artists add little details like the paint on the stairs being peeled and worn away, especially on the spots where people would have been walking on or grabbing the most. It’s little things like this, that help these animated worlds feel just a little more real to me.

oh my goodness these actors are KILLING it with such complex emotions. grover's "you're fighting everyone, what's going on?" and it's actually just that percy is SO hurt by all the lies and SO confused by his constantly changing landscape and so so conflicted by all of the clashing interests with the quest, the prophecy, his mother, and their relationships with their godly parentages. the fact that he has so much trouble hiding the prophecy of betrayal for the same reasons he has so much trouble consoling himself about it, too--his loyalty.

when he talks about why he chose grover and annabeth, all of that comes to light. his real feelings of hurt over all the lies come out when he talks to grover. his real fears of never seeing his mother again come out when he lashes out at annabeth. and he regrets it all immediately, but this is what happens when you throw a 12 year old boy into the deep end and expect him to bottle it all up. the son of the tides will have to release it all at some point.

I mean they literally do since it was explicitly stated multiple times that the wishes were given to him WILLINGLY. It's not some kind of requirement for living here and even if it were, you all chose to come and live here so if your wishes were that damn important to you, you could've just... I don't know?! What you're about to do is stealing from the king which is very much considered treason and I would be sympathetic to that if this movie did anything to show at this point that Magnifico wasn't anything other than looking out for his kingdom's safety. "A Girl Worth Fighting For" isn't my favorite song on the Mulan soundtrack....but I'm so glad it's part of the movie solely because it helps create what I might argue is the best use of mood whiplash in any film I've ever seen?

The way the music just stops, and the trio just freezes, them going from being about to just playfully pelt Mulan with snowballs, to to all four characters just looking absolutely stunned and horrified by..whatever they're looking at. And the fact that we don't see what they're seeing just yet just adds to the feeling that something is horribly wrong.

grover going "are you two fucking SERIOUS rn" at his two quarrelling kids is so fucking funny but it's also so devastating that he has such a deep understanding of their lives, their motivations, their heartbreaks, and their traumas that he honestly just really wants them to get along and make it through everything safely enough to one day be okay. he has my entire heart for that
