Now more than ever is a good time to learn to make zines.
What Are Zines?
Zines ("zeens") are small, self-published booklets filled with whatever the creator is passionate about. They can focus on personal stories, niche interests, or even artwork. Unlike traditional publications, zines are informal, handmade, and often deeply personal. They don’t have to be perfect—what matters is the message and creativity behind them.
How Zines Spread Information
Zines are powerful tools for sharing ideas, especially when mainstream outlets overlook certain voices or topics
- They’re Accessible: You don’t need fancy equipment or money to make one—just paper, pens, and your imagination
- They Cover What Matters to You: Zines are great for exploring personal experiences, activism, or any quirky interests you’re passionate about
- They Build Community: Zines often connect like-minded people, sparking conversations and creating new relationships
- They Educate and Inspire: Whether it’s about a social cause, a DIY skill, or your favorite band, zines can teach and inspire readers
How to Make a Zine
1. Pick Your Topic: What’s the thing you can’t stop thinking about? That’s your zine idea.
2. Plan Your Pages: Jot down what you want to include—stories, drawings, photos, poems, or collages. Anything goes!
3. Choose a Format: The easiest option is a mini-zine (made from one folded sheet of paper), but you can also staple multiple pages together for a booklet
4. Design Your Layout: Use scissors, glue, markers, and whatever you have on hand. If you prefer digital tools, programs like Canva or even Word work well! I use Procreate
5. Print & Assemble: Make photocopies or print them at home. You can alzojust remake them by hand. Fold, staple, or bind them together however you like
6. Share It: Hand them out to friends, leave them in local spots, or share them online as PDFs
Zines are all about self-expression, so don’t worry about making it perfect—it’s your creation, and that’s what matters. Invite friends to contribute, try different styles, and most importantly, have fun with it.

Fantasies of Revolution
As we get daily news reports of the New York police trying to find the man that killed the United Healthcare CEO, Brian Thompson, we see a rising of the people. The unification of the lower class. The death of a man who has been the cause of countless lost lives is to the benefit of us all. The words "Deny" "Defend" "Defend" echo in our minds just as the shell casings did when they dropped to the ground. We can only hope that his fervor does not die down, though I fear it will. Syria has made its dictator flee. South Korea put a stop to tyranny before it ever began. Georgia is fighting to be heard by its government. France voted to remove their far-right prime minister.
With the incoming presidency of Donald Trump, we cannot falter now. This momentum cannot stop. We are the people. We are the employers of the politicians. Make them hear you. Deny their power. Defend the people. Depose the rulers. Vote them out. Fire them. Show them that you are angry.
Earlier this year, I wrote a short rant piece about getting my family to wake up from the delusions that the far-right were promising them. I never showed it to them because it was filled with anger that they would never listen to. Now I call to the words that were in my head for days on end, "Wake up. Get up." Do not let this momentum die. Companies are trying to hide who their upper level executive people are. They are scared of the people.
A cover of Les Mis's "Do You Hear the People Sing" by the.real.eden on tiktok has been particularly powerful for me. I've listened to it over and over. I hope that the politicians and wealthy hear the people sing the song of angry men. I hope we are loud enough. I fear that this is simply just accumulation of fantasies of revolution with nothing to back it up. I fear that this will become the "there are flowers blooming in Antarctica." I fear that this will become a left vs. right instead of the working vs. wealthy. The wealthy fear a coherent and unified working class for a reason. They fear unions. They fear us. They fear those willing to fight for what is right. Do not let this momentum die down. Do not let our angry cries be silenced.

Aight, so a suspect has been caught. In the next couple of days we’re going to be bombarded with a cavalcade of information about Luigi Mangione. As we start this period I want everyone to remember:
The killer--whether he is Mangione or another man--is a living, breathing, human being. He has followed people you don’t like, held beliefs you disagree with, and possibly voting for politicians you think suck.
He still shot a man with the blood of millions on his hands. He still caused an outpouring of rage that caused BCBS to roll back its ghoulish anesthesia policy.
Carve that into your fucking minds. Mass media is about to do its damnedest to remind us to hate each other, not the top .001%. Do not let them do this. Y’all understand what I’m saying? Here, lemme spell it out more clearly:
DO NOT FUCKING PURITY TEST THIS GUY, ASSHOLES!!
And if you see people fixating on his purity over the message he sent, call them out on it.
We have lost again and again and again on healthcare because we keep letting the rich divide us. Remember: the people united will never be defeated.
Edit: A couple of people have asked me to not convict Mangione in my post, and they're right. Mangione has been arrested on gun charges, not for the murder, and regardless of the charge he obviously hasn't been convicted yet. It's too soon to lay Brian Thompson on his head. I've modified the post to reflect that.
That said, what I've said here applies to whoever the killer is. As the media circus plays out, a lot of talking heads will be pulling out all stops to remind us to hate each other, not the insurance CEOs. Do not fall for their tricks!

A Pragmatic and surprisingly comforting perspective about the Trump 2nd Presidency from the ACLU
***Apologies if this is how you found out the 2024 election results***
Blacked out part is my name.

I’m not going to let this make me give up. It’s disheartening, and today I will wallow, probably tomorrow too
AND
I will continue to do my part in my community to spread the activism and promote change for the world I want to live in. I want to change the world AND help with the dishes.
And I won’t let an orange pit stain be what stops me from trying to be better.
A link to donate to the ACLU if able and inclined. I know I am

“This thing is legally dubious and therefore technically unenforceable.” Is not a “useless liberal gotcha” it’s how legalism works in this country. Tying up stupidly worded EOs in court is the quickest way to keep them from being implemented. It is the definition of “doing something.” But it doesn’t usually involve much tweeting so of course a certain type of leftist feels obligated to mock it.

It's all about keeping us in line while the riches get richer, if they can turn a blind eye to school kids being murdered senselessly, the least we can do is call them out for who they really are, thoughts and prayers not included.

look at me. listen to me. bigots and queerphobes don’t know the distinction between a trans person, a gnc cis gay person, and a cisgender heterosexual crossdresser. all of these people are just queer degenerates to them. that is why their anti-drag bills are written so vaguely as to encompass any possible mundane gender nonconformity - so they can target as many of us as possible in one ruling. and that’s why you need to stop trying to put lines between these groups in regards to ‘who’s more oppressed’ and ‘who has the right to talk about gender’ - gender nonconformity and transgenderism are punished in exactly the same way. cut one of us and the other bleeds. our fight is the same.

People need to stop blaming 'parasocial relationships' when it's revealed to the public that a famous person has done something controversial (or even a crime) and the public is upset. 'I can't believe xxx did that!' doesn't always mean that the person who said it has a parasocial relationship with xxx. Usually it's just our faith in humanity, we want to believe that everyone has some basic human decency (especially someone we might admire) and it's only natural to be disappointed when we learn they're a bad person.
