Step 4: Let the Flavor Work Its Magic — Breaking the Boring Meal Cycle
You can find the links to the previous steps on "Breaking the Boring Meal Cycle" at the end of this blog. So, let's see how step 4 can help.
A Different Flavor, a Different Taste
A great way to fight food boredom is by introducing flavors you may not typically use. Experiment with different cuisines. Think Mediterranean, Thai, or Middle Eastern spices. These can add depth and excitement to your meals without needing to prep entirely different dishes every day.
For instance, a simple grilled chicken can feel brand new depending on the seasonings you choose. Add a Mediterranean twist by marinating it in olive oil, garlic, lemon, and oregano. Or take it down a Thai-inspired path by using ginger, lime, soy sauce, and a touch of chili.
Even something as basic as roasted vegetables can be spiced up. Try Middle Eastern flavors by sprinkling them with cumin, coriander, and sumac, or a dash of tahini for extra richness. You’re still making the same core meal, but the flavor profile will be entirely different!

Did you ever think up a name for the goat's patron? Curious because I love their desgin and I cant get them out of my head. Also, if its not too much trouble, do you mind going into your thoughts behind their design? For some reason I interpret it as vaugely Chinese/Journey to the West inspired (which has partly resulted in me calling them pigsy in my head), but idk if thats your you were going for.
(referencing the design found in this post)
Her name is Freya! She's the goddess of both life and death in her world, chained by her siblings to guarantee themselves immortality. She was freed from her chains by the Goat stealing her siblings' crowns and using their weapons to sacrifice himself in a vicious ritual that should have led to him being impossible to bring back from death's clutches. But Freya was terrified of losing him, and tried to stop him from slipping away as he died. She only managed to pin him between life and death, trapping him in the moments of his passing for what seemed like eons... Until a newly-crowned goddess from another world with an affinity for such things found and released him. (At least in the scrapped storyline / alternative AU where he appears!)
The main inspiration behind her design was that I wanted her to be an animal that's seen positively or negatively depending on the culture it's in, and has a connection with luck in order to contrast Narinder's being a black cat and fulfilling those requirements as well. So I made her a pig as a result!
I wanted her to contrast the Goat's very gloomy and dark design. She would have warm brown, bright gold, and vivid purple as her central colors as a result, though I didn't color her in the piece she appears in, so that's not clear at all, haha.
I'm not the best at conveying it in my art, but Narinder, at least in his updated design I never really draw, is meant to have diamonds as the main shape that his design is built around. He's supposed to have diamond-shaped eyes, ears, face, etcetera. And Freya has hearts to contrast that! A shape that has roundedness to its points.
I wasn't very inspired by Chinese motifs while designing Freya beyond the symbolism of pigs in that culture helping me choose her species. But her earrings were semi-inspired by furin wind chimes, which originate in Japan! You can read about those on their Wikipedia page here. I imagine that Freya would be the inspiration behind her world's lore for their version of furin.
As a little bit of parting trivia: the Goat was the one to do all of the plotting to free Freya, contrasting the Lamb and Narinder's dynamic. He was so utterly head over heels for her after she saved him from the massacre of his people, ashamed of her siblings' actions, that he was willing to do whatever it took for her to see the world she loved again, free of shackles.

Feb 27, 2023
Hello hello, posting a bit late tonight. But a little late is better than never in the garden!
Today and the last few days I've been working on garden planning and some clean up. If your getting started into gardening, farming and homesteding i do not suggest doing "everything" in short order or have an extra hand or two for heavy work. If not, always work smarter rather than harder~
I pulled the pumpkins and did some light prep work on this row. I plan to put corn and beans here, as well as probably some kale or chard to fill in space.
Funny enough I see a lil pumpkin sprout in there and a lettuce, I'm going to let them grow a bit and then pull the pumpkin and feed it to the chickens.
So why did I have to pull the pumpkins you may ask? While they were looking sad and not well, there was one pumpkin ripening on the vines left. Found out
It's gallow on the inside :( the other big one, it had gone soft as it had been sitting on a lil spot that collected water. The next pumpkins I'll need to keep a closer eye on it seems.
The carrots I've left to go to seed, there's some chard popping up in the row too, I'm going to let them grow for now till the new stuff comes in.
Close up of the future seeder. I'm so glad the purple red ones have grown so big. The white ones didn't seem to do as well sadly. But they were neat in salads and omolettes or to add mashed into white/cream based sauces for sweetness.
I'll need to trim the Nasturtium down a bit. I'm going to try and make a few salads and some pesto from the leaves and share with the girls most likely. I've bot had the leaves before so I am very excited to give it a try 😀
The first pea harvest :) they went to a shared salad.
As well, one of the carrots I harvested~ this was from seed I saved last year to grow again. carrot was used in salad. (The greens too!)
And the lentils! I'm going to be tilling over half this area after my seed starts are ready to go in. I'm planning on pepper plants and armenian cucumbers or watermelons/cantaloupes.
Today as well was egg wash day. I like to wash a flat or eggs at a time as I use about that in a week. Chicken eggs as long as they aren't fertilized can be left ont he counter unwashed for a time, this is because "bloom" helps give eggs a protective cover. They will last far longer unwashed refrigerated but we tend to eat eggs very quickly here. Washed eggs get used within a week if not refridgerated. ⚠️ALWAYS Wash your eggs before using for cooking!⚠️
And I got some seeds going for starting, I'm planning to do a lil secondary post to share what I'll be growing and a lil informations on each one soon.
Aside from the garden I'm going to try and make bagels this week! If they go well I plan to make a few batches and store some in the freezer for a later day and meal prep :)
I also tried a new way to cook rice that uses the oven! Measure your rice into a glass cassarole, wash rice. Fill with water or broth to proper line, cover and baked in the oven @ 475* around 45 minutes, though I think my oven Temps off as it's longer. Makes nice fluffy rice without watching the stove top.
What's everyone up to this week in their gardens and sufficient or sustainable journey?

“when that little voice in your head says "i dont need to write that down, ill remember it" that is the devil talking!!! write it down anyway!!”
this is your gentle reminder to stop fighting against your adhd and instead structure your life around it
buy a pack of chapsticks and put one in the pocket of all of your coats and jackets because you always forget to bring one and chapped lips is sensory hell
leave important things where you can see them. if they go in a box or a drawer you will forget they exist
put any appointments or deadlines in your phone calendar As Soon As you get them. set a reminder for a week before, a day before, an hour before, as many as you need as often as you need them.
when that little voice in your head says "i dont need to write that down, ill remember it" that is the devil talking!!! write it down anyway!!
plan for down time. have a few hours at the end of every day to just do fun stuff like engage in your hyperfixations. even if you didnt get all of your work done that day, have the rest anyway. you probably spent the whole day beating yourself up for not doing what you Should be doing, so you still need the break.
if you never eat vegetables because its too much effort to chop and cook them, get the frozen or canned shit. it doesnt go off for ages and you just have to microwave it. theres no point buying fresh vegetables if they just keep going off and being left to rot in the bottom of your fridge
if you struggle to decide what to have for dinner every day, take the decision out of it. choose a set of meals and eat those on rotation until you get sick of them, then choose some new ones and do it again.
its not stupid if it works! our brains literally have a chemical deficiency. you are allowed to accommodate yourself. go forth and stop making your life more difficult than it has to be because "this shouldn't be this hard". it is hard, so make it easier.
#this is so important#re:the first point- burnout is real please take the downtime#also check out recipe box meals if you enjoy cooking they can help a lot with the what to eat decisions#adhd#actually adhd#adhd tips#sharethelove#writing#creative#authors

Step 2 to Exciting Meal Prep: Breaking the Boring Meal Cycle
Here's the link to step 1, (https://www.tumblr.com/lifestyle-hub/762348908666142720/meal-prep-for-a-week-creative-tips?source=share) in case you’re wondering why we’re starting with the second step, talking about seasoning.
Spice it Up
Never underestimate the power of seasoning. Keeping a variety of spices and sauces on hand can be a game changer. One night, your chicken can be zesty with lemon and oregano, and the next, it can have a smoky barbecue kick. Just because you’re eating the same base ingredients doesn’t mean they have to taste the same!
Take chicken breast, for example. On Monday, you can go for an Italian-inspired dish by using olive oil, garlic, basil, and oregano. Pair it with a side of roasted vegetables, and you’ve got yourself a Mediterranean delight.
Then, on Wednesday, those same chicken breasts can transform into a Mexican-style taco night with cumin, paprika, chili powder, and a squeeze of lime. Same base, but a entirely different flavor.
The same goes for tofu! Sautéed tofu with a soy-ginger glaze can add an Asian flair, while using a Cajun seasoning mix on Friday brings a smoky Southern taste to the same tofu base.
With the right spices and sauces, your week of meal prepping won’t ever feel boring! (Get what I mean?)
The third step will be shown in my next blog. Got any questions on this? Hit the comment section below.

Hey everyone,
my apologies, but it may be a little sparse on picture posts for a week or two. I've been working on taking care of laundry now that theres some calm, sunny weather again for a bit and been getting around to a bit of a home cleansing/purge while preparing for the next planting season :)
For now, i thought id share a bit of a ramble. I found a store near me that sells packs of beef fat which is pretty rare so I grabbed one to see if I could figure out how many I might need for a master batch of tallow for the month. Finally got around to rendering it and For $4.00 and a few hours of time I got 1 and a little over 1/2 pints of beef tallow. This'll be enough fat for cooking for maybe a week? Depending on what I'm cooking.
Plus a decent chunk of the crumbles tuff afterwords for salad topping. :D. It's delicious fresh and hot tossed with seasoning too!
But if your someone who doesn't like the crispy bits, if you've got chickens its a liked snack for them too.
Next time I'll see about probably double the amount to render for at least 2 weeks so we can pull away from butter for a bit (it's gotten very expensive for butter and heavy cream recently).
I'm hoping this store will have some chunks of pig fat similar too. If so I'm going to buy some next month to render and make soap. I'm down to the last few bars now and have been procrastinating heavy on making the next batches.
If not I suppose I may need to research a good tallow bar recipe to add to the homemade recipe book. Good thing I'm cleaning house, it'll make some space for curing bars and help me find the molds so I can make a few batches at once.
End of my ramble for now, the laundry pile calls.
🌱Happy Homesteading everyone🌱
