By the way, you can improve your executive function. You can literally build it like a muscle.
Yes, even if you're neurodivergent. I don't have ADHD, but it is allegedly a thing with ADHD as well. And I am autistic, and after a bunch of nerve damage (severe enough that I was basically housebound for 6 months), I had to completely rebuild my ability to get my brain to Do Things from what felt like nearly scratch.
This is specifically from ADDitude magazine, so written specifically for ADHD (and while focused in large part on kids, also definitely includes adults and adult activities):
Here's a link on this for autism (though as an editor wow did that title need an editor lol):
Resources on this aren't great because they're mainly aimed at neurotypical therapists or parents of neurdivergent children. There's worksheets you can do that help a lot too or thought work you can do to sort of build the neuro-infrastructure for tasks.
But a lot of the stuff is just like. fun. Pulling from both the first article and my own experience:
Play games or video games where you have to make a lot of decisions. Literally go make a ton of picrews or do online dress-up dolls if you like. It helped me.
Art, especially forms of art that require patience, planning ahead, or in contrast improvisation
Listening to longform storytelling without visuals, e.g. just listening regularly to audiobooks or narrative podcasts, etc.
Meditation
Martial arts
Sports in general
Board games like chess or Catan (I actually found a big list of what board games are good for building what executive functioning skills here)
Woodworking
Cooking
If you're bad at time management play games or video games with a bunch of timers
Things can be easier. You might always have a disability around this (I certainly always will), but it can be easier. You do not have to be this stuck forever.
#actually autistic#executive dysfunction#neurodivergent#adhd#not news#hope#at least it's been very hopeful for me

"You'll not always be motivated so you have to be disciplined."
day 29+30+31/50 productivity challenge - condensing 3 days into 1 post cuz of 2 all nighters in a row i- dw tho cuz i did sleep a couple of hours in between here & there.. still genuinely dunno how i survived. learn from my mistakes & don't procrastinate cuz that's the only reason i was stuck in this mess
23rd September 2024, Monday
[almost nobody from my class actually went to school (& i'm not an exception) cuz tuesday's a study break & wednesday's our chem exam]
💤: 8 hrs - i mean ig at least that's one plus side of sleeping in?
🕒 1 p.m.- *sigh*
afternoon morning skincare
duolingo
practiced playing keyboard
did some college-related research
gradblr intro post
took bath
studied + made notes chemistry ch: structure of atom (not fully)
did so much planning fml (not good, not good at all, i procrastinated a lot!!)
did an exercise video
🚰: 4 glasses
24th September 2024, Tuesday
[study break day]
🕒 6:30 a.m. - my "night" is over & the day has begun
morning skincare
revised chemistry ch: some basic concepts of chemistry
🕒 12 - 3 p.m. - napped
duolingo
had a mental breakdown, pathetically cried, felt like a failure, etc
studied chemistry ch: structure of atom
took bath
night skincare
packed bag for tmr
🕒 10 p.m. - 12 a.m. - napped
🚰: 3 glasses
25th September 2024, Wednesday
[chem exam]
studied chemistry ch: classification of elements and periodicity in properties
studied chemistry ch: chemical bonding and molecular structure
morning skincare
quickly wrote down all formulae + important values
🕒 8 a.m. - left for school sleep deprived asf but caffeinated & motivated to get through the terrible exam
chemistry exam: i will be in deep shit when results come out *sigh* obviously i'm not happy when my friends do bad but only one comfort is that we're in shit together (they're literally the only 2 ppl i talk to in school). i NEED to do well on all my other exams, like somehow make an extraordinary improvement to show that i'm good with the other subjects and will just prioritize studying chem in the future. also made a deal with my mom that if i get above 83% overall then i'll finally get my own tab and headphones. we've been meaning to buy it for some time now, and my mom agreed only because my first tests' marks was at 64% (cuz i didn't study..). not exactly an "academic weapon" just yet.. only yet hopefully..
🕒 1-5 p.m. - came back home & slept like a log (no one's surprised)
(re) planned my day
took bath
ate my first meal of the day (how did i survive till here with just a coffee before school??)
played chess online (lost once, won once)
planned week after dussehra break
night skincare
decided to take a break today & wake up early tmr to start anew; i.e. operation proper sleep every night is green!
🕒 12 a.m. - went to bed finally
🚰: 4 glasses

Inktordem time :D Fluffier nonsense to make up for yesterday I promise. I’m using one of the prompts on a list of alt prompts @factorialsotherfandoms and I came up with. This word is one of his! The “alienígenas” prompt will go on the alt list in case I think of anything later down the line and want to use it.
Spoilers for basic OPD episode 1 stuff.
DAY 6 (ALT) — BELLS
It’s one of those rare lulls where reports of suspected paranormal activity have slowed down. As such Kaiser doesn’t have to spend his time in the computer room at base playing IT for investigation teams or helping put out fires when things go sideways. He’s done nothing but work on improving CRIS’ Twitter sweeping algorithm for the past two days.
Arthur came into the computer room at the Order about an hour ago and dragged Kaiser home, saying he and Ivete were planning on making a late lunch soon and yeah, Kaiser should probably have something other than takeout.
It is nice being home. Ivete threw on some talk show for background noise while she and Arthur sort out their ingredients, and Kaiser is flopped over the couch, letting the noise wash over him. He can feel how about every joint from his neck to his hips is decompressing after he’s spent so long hunched at his computer. It’s good. Here, at home, without the constant anxiety of being needed by the Order turning his nerves to live wires, Kaiser can finally do something like relax. The TV is droning in the background, Ivete and Arthur are murmuring to each other in the kitchen, filling pots with water, chopping things, and Kaiser is…
He’s…
Tired…
…and theRE IS SOMETHING ON HIS BACKHOLYSHIT—
“AI!”
“MEROW!”
Kaiser slams himself up on his elbows and kicks away, gasping. “What the f…”
Sitting up now, he just barely catches a glimpse of a black and white spotted tail disappearing over the arm of the couch.
“Kaiser?”
His eyes flick to the kitchen. Ivete and Arthur are staring at him.
“Are you alright?” Ivete asks. There’s a confused smile on her lips.
“I…” Kaiser watches Jennifer hop up onto one of the barstools, staring at him with her tail flicking. He swallows his heart back down his throat. “Yeah, jeez, I—I think Jennifer crawled on my back and it scared me.”
“Jennifer scared you?” Arthur says, laughter in his voice.
“Dude I was nearly asleep. I didn’t hear her coming.” Kaiser groans, scrubbing his faces up and down. “Holy shit, that got me. I swear my soul nearly left my body.”
“Mm, she’s lucky she’s quick,” Ivete notes, returning to her chopping. “You just about launched her clear across the couch, boy. That poor thing.”
“Poor her? Poor me!” Ivete is grinning now. “I’m the one who nearly died over here.”
“Hey, you know she’s skittish,” Arthur defends. “You really could’ve scared her.”
“Ugh!” Kaiser flops back onto the couch. “Fine! I’m sorry Jennifer! When’s food ready?”
“Twenty-five minutes” Ivete replies. “Twenty if you want to come in here and help with the chopping.”
Kaiser sighs. He might as well, seeing as he’s very awake now. Kaiser mourns the loss of his afternoon nap and gets off the couch.
~*~
“So we finally got the table re-assembled,” Arthur says, adjusting the guitar in his lap. “And well, that was a lot of work, obviously, but Marcos was still determined to have a game of pool tonight regardless.”
“But the pool balls hadn’t come in, right?” Kaiser asks. He’s got half his brain on this match of online chess, and it’s honestly going terribly, but he’s doing what he can. Sort of.
“Well, turns out it had changed from ‘delayed’ to ‘failed’. The order got lost somewhere, apparently.”
Kaiser scoffs. “How does that happen?”
“Don’t know! But it did. So Marcus of course is already looking up places where we can go buy them, and we find a games store down the street that has them—but it’s closing in about ten minutes.”
“Oh no,” Kaiser drawls. He hears Arthur that another cord on his guitar, fingers plucking idly, and watches him shift where he’s sitting on Kaiser’s bed. Kaiser puts his rook forward. “Because of course it’s closing.”
“Exactly. And the store isn’t far, but it’s far enough, and traffic is bad at that hour, you know?”
Kaiser watches the opponent take his bishop. Ah shit. He moves his pawn. “Soooo you ran.”
“Yep!” Kaiser snorts. “Sprinted all the way down the street, Marcus nearly got run over. It was great.”
“And did you—“ Check on his king. “Oops.”
“What?”
“Hold on I’m losing.” Kaiser moves his queen forward and knocks out their rook. Out of check. “So did you get there in time?”
“Well, kind of? The guy who owns the place was literally walking out when we got there. But then we started explaining—completely out of breath, to be clear—and the guy was so, uh, amused? With our sheer determination to play pool tonight that he let us in and sold us a set, with the long sticks too.”
“Well, that’s cool of him.” A little more out of check now. His opponent is really taking his time. Kaiser skims over the chess board for his options. “I’m glad Marcus didn’t get hit by a car, that would have WOAH—“
Kaiser jumps when he feels something touch his leg and slams his knee up into the top of the desk.
“Kaiser?”
“Ow ow ow ow—“ Kaiser hisses and rubs his knee with his hand. Fuck, he wasn’t even wearing his long pajama bottoms this time, ow.
“Mrow!” Jennifer slinks out from under his desk and jumps up onto Kaiser’s bed, padding over to Arthur.
“Shit,” Kaiser exhales. “She was under my chair. Brushed up against my leg and scared the shit out of me.”
“Oh yeah she just came in,” Arthur says, waving his hand at the bedroom door behind Kaiser. “Guess you didn’t hear her.”
Kaiser keeps rubbing his aching knee. “Man, she is always doing that. I swear she’s a ghost…”
Arthur puts his guitar aside to free up his lap, which Jennifer immediately crawls into and curls up in. “Awww sorry, baby,” Arthur murmurs. “Did Kaiser kick you?”
“I didn’t kick her.”
“Hm?” Arthur scratches her behind her ears. She leans into it, eyes closed. “Poor baby. He’s so mean, huh?”
“What.”
“You just want him to like you, right?”
“What the fuck.”
“Kaiser, why are you so mean to her?”
“I’m not mean to her! She just keeps giving me heart attacks!”
Arthur bends his head down, kissing her head and grinning. “I know, he’s so rude like that, isn’t he?”
Kaiser slumps back in his chair. “I can’t believe this.” Opponent’s queen towards his king. Checkmate. “Fuck.”
~*~
Fixing his sleep schedule, Kaiser has found, is a completely pointless endeavor when he knows that his work at the Order and his own habits will just upend it again within forty-eight hours.
Playing LoL at night while hungry, Kaiser has also found, is a good way to get angry and shout something and accidentally wake up the household because hey, he lives with other people now. And he’d much rather not do that.
Hence, the creation of 3 am cheese time.
Kaiser slips out of his room and tiptoes over to the kitchen. He slides in and navigates around the counter by touch and the dim glare of a distant streetlight through the window. With one hand braced on the side of the fridge, he eeeeeases the door open and nudges some containers aside.
Bag of cheese slices. Bingo. Kaiser holds the fridge door open with his hip and opens the package, peels out a slice of cheese, folds it up and half-shoves it in his mouth. Then, he closes the package, seals it up, leans out of the fridge, and closes the doo—
Two eyes staring at him in the darkness.
Kaiser gasps and inhales cheese. He chokes and spits and covers his loud coughing with his arm, eyes watering, what the fuck…
“Mrow!”
Oh you’re kidding.
There, sitting on the counter, eyes reflecting the light from the fridge, is Jennifer.
Kaiser coughs one last time and swallows roughly, panting. “When did you even get in here??” he hisses.
Jennifer tilts her head at him. She jumps down from the counter, silent as a shadow, and starts sniffing at the cheese he spit out onto the ground. After a moment, she nibbles it.
Kaiser stares at her. “Yeah you know what. Fine. You can have it.” Kaiser closes the fridge and heads off to bed.
~*~
Kaiser unlocks the door and shoulders it open, grocery back in his other hand. “Hey, I’m back!”
“Hey!” Arthur calls in the living room, waving from the couch. “You took a while, what happened?”
“Had to make an extra stop.” Kaiser hefts the grocery bag onto the counter. “Is Jennifer with you?”
“Uh yeah, she’s right here. Why?”
Kaiser pulls a little paper parcel out of the bag. He heads over to the couch and plonks himself down, right next to Jennifer, who “mrrp!”s unpleasantly at the disturbance.
He opens the package. A tinkling noise rings out. Kaiser unclips Jennifer’s collar and fastens on a new one—pink, with a little bow and a bell dangling on the end of it.

10 Tips for Beginners in Chess
Chess is an ancient game of strategy, where patience, planning, and practice go hand in hand. Whether you’re picking up the board for the first time or want to improve your basic skills, here are ten essential tips for beginners that can help you advance and enjoy the game even more.
1. Understand the Rules Thoroughly
Before diving into strategies and tactics, make sure you understand the fundamental rules of the game. Familiarize yourself with how each piece moves and the unique moves like castling, en passant, and pawn promotion. Knowing the rules will help you see the bigger picture on the board.
2. Learn Piece Values
Each chess piece has a value that can guide you in exchanges. Generally, pawns are worth 1 point, knights and bishops 3, rooks 5, and the queen 9. While the king has no numeric value, as it can’t be captured, understanding these values will help you make better decisions about which pieces to keep and which to exchange.
3. Control the Center
The four central squares on the board (e4, e5, d4, and d5) are crucial in controlling the game. By placing your pawns and pieces to influence these squares, you’ll gain more mobility and limit your opponent’s options. A strong center allows for more flexibility and a solid foundation for attacks.
4. Develop All Your Pieces Early
A common mistake for beginners is focusing too much on just a few pieces, especially the queen. Instead, work on developing all your pieces, especially knights and bishops, as soon as possible. This will give you more options for attacking and defending.
5. Don’t Move the Same Piece Multiple Times Early On
In the opening phase, avoid moving the same piece multiple times unless necessary. Moving one piece repeatedly wastes valuable time that could be used to bring other pieces into the game. Strive for efficiency in the early moves to maximize your control over the board.
6. Protect Your King
Never neglect the safety of your king. One of the best ways to ensure this is by castling early, which moves the king to a safer position and connects your rooks. Avoid leaving your king exposed to direct threats, as it can lead to a quick loss.
7. Be Cautious with Pawn Moves
Pawns are the only pieces that cannot move backward, so think carefully before advancing them. Reckless pawn moves can create weaknesses in your defense, especially around your king. A solid pawn structure is crucial for a strong defense and effective control over the board.
8. Consider the Opponent’s Threats
Chess is not just about executing your own plans but also about responding to your opponent’s moves. Every time your opponent moves, take a moment to consider what they’re trying to accomplish. This habit will help you anticipate threats and avoid costly mistakes.
9. Practice Basic Tactics
Tactics are short-term sequences of moves that can give you a decisive advantage. Learning common tactics, such as forks, pins, skewers, and discovered attacks, can help you find clever ways to gain material or put your opponent in difficult positions. Practicing tactics can give you an edge even over more experienced players.
10. Analyze Your Games
After each game, especially if you’ve lost, take some time to review it. Look for mistakes, missed opportunities, and areas where you can improve. Many online chess platforms provide game analysis tools to help you understand your weaknesses and strengths. Reflecting on your games is one of the fastest ways to improve.
Final Note: Learning from a Grandmaster
For those serious about taking their chess skills to the next level, learning from an experienced player is invaluable. Grandmaster chess coach Valery Filippov offers online chess lessons tailored to players of all levels. His insights can help you understand complex strategies, refine your openings, and improve your endgame skills. With his guidance, you can progress faster and develop a solid foundation to enjoy chess at a higher level.

Educational talk at the wonderful Esseri school in La Plata
In the area of the city of La Plata, there is a great school, very modern and with very noble values, with which they educate their children, this is the Esseri School, where its directors, and the rest of the school community, are busy preparing their school community to be prepared from all aspects for the complex social and economic world that is coming for the new generations.
Thus, from a financial perspective, an extracurricular talk was organized for students of Esseri High School, where Jose Iadiccico (CEO of ADA Solar) and Ulises Barreiro (CEO of Token Mithrandir), shared in 120 minutes, very interesting topics on financial education and where students were focused on the dangers of gambling, with digital platforms such as online casinos, trading, soccer betting house, etc.. On the other hand, tips were given, and key concepts for these students to develop the concept of “Financial Intelligence”, concepts that every good person should have already internalized inside in the XXI world, in order to live with prosperity and quality of life. Martín Bitelmajer (Chess Master and chess trainer), who has a great international experience as a chess player, gave a talk to the students of the Esseri elementary school.
These educational talks given by ADA Solar and Token Mithrandir are part of the Amon Project, which focuses on touring educational and social communities, and to bring some light on Decentralized Finance. To the future generations that will need it so much. Giving classes on financial education has several significant advantages, which bring great added value to all future citizens who will go out into the world of work when they finish school:
Improves decision-making: Helps students make informed decisions about their money, which can lead to better management of their personal finances.
Promotes responsibility: Promotes responsible saving and consumption habits, teaching students to live within their means.
Debt prevention: By understanding concepts such as interest, credit and savings, students can avoid falling into unnecessary debt.
Preparing for the future: Gives them tools for long-term planning, such as investment and retirement planning.
Critical skills development: Builds math and analytical skills by working with budgeting, investment and cost analysis.
Confidence building: Gives students the confidence to manage their finances and cope with economic situations.
Contribution to society: A financially educated population can contribute to a more stable and sustainable economy for its entire environment, and for the rest of that society's economic environment.
For all these concepts, we congratulate the educational authorities of this school, who opened their doors to allow us to meet their school community, and to transmit our knowledge on this subject. For more information about the educational offer provided by the Esseri school, we leave you their website. https://colegioesseri.com.ar/

Ereyesterday I beat an NM in a casual game. And as always happens when I do something "good" I assume like a fucking idiot that it's the first step. Like the first step towards real improvement.
Today I had one of the most humiliating online losses in all the times I have played chess. And of course it hurts way worse than usual (an impressive feat considering how much these things usually hurt) because of that first step mentality I had.
I'm thinking back through my life and all the times I thought some random nice thing that happened was le first stepperino. Never been a second step, huh, idiot! It's such a stupid mentality that needs to be crushed. I need to stop celebrating first steps and realize that nothing good ever lasts more than a single day and I am always and forever inherently a stupid loser.

My headcanons for what the BBC Ghosts would do today
I saw a post about how it is quite silly that Kitty of all people is the most interested in gore-related things but it got me thinking.
Kitty: I think she would be a medical student or perhaps a photographer of crime scenes.
Fanny: Obviously a professor of mathematics since we learned that she really enjoyed it.
The Captain: He seems like he would be a historian at a museum or at a historical site because he seems to be quite interested in history, more than other ghosts. He's a bird-watcher for fun.
Mary: Home-economics teacher.
Humphrey: He gives off the vibe of being a coffee shop barista who is also part of a improv group. "Mr. Cheese" anyone?
Robin: He is either a chess Grandmaster or is one of those forest rangers that live in the middle of some random national park. I couldn't decide; the man contains multitudes.
Thomas: A white rapper. He writes his own stuff, some of the bars he writes are really good, but a lot of it is just pretentious. Often promotes his music online. Had one good song and is riding on that high.
Pat: Other than a scoutmaster, I could envision him being a therapist for both children and adults since he has that helpful and kind nature.
Julian: Car salesman. yeah.

Urban Renewal: How Simple Acts and Third Spaces can Reconnect Our Communities
As we navigate this post-pandemic world, I've been pondering the idea of connection, particularly in our urban spaces. It's why I launched the Urban Renewal series to focus on how we can improve social connections in our communities. For the first installment of the series, I had the pleasure of chatting with fellow Vancouverite, Peg Fong, a journalist, author, and educator who launched a podcast and book during the pandemic titled, Alone Together, exploring the topic of loneliness in cities.
In our conversation, Peg shared her insights on how we can rebuild a sense of community.
The Simple Act of Walking
During the pandemic when we were mostly confined to our homes, the ability to stroll through the neighborhood and see other people was often our main source of face-to-face interaction.
"I live in Yaletown, a very walkable area of Vancouver, which was something I took for granted," Peg shared. “But during the pandemic it became so important to have these public spaces where we could walk and see other people around, even if we couldn't be together.”
Public spaces like parks and sidewalks became lifelines for connecting with others, reminding us that we weren't truly alone. However when the pandemic was over, many people continued to stay home, preferring teleworking and shopping online to being out and about in their communities.
“I grew up in the Prairies and we always had community areas where people gathered after church or on the weekends, whether it was a local community center or hockey rink. I think we've lost some of that.”
With more people working from home and having food and goods delivered, we don’t have spontaneous interactions typically experienced when going out to the office or the store. To make up for those lost connections, walking and spending time in public spaces becomes even more important to building community.
Activating Public Spaces
But, it’s not just about having more public spaces – it's about activating them. Imagine a public square with giant chess boards, live music, or pop-up markets. These kinds of events draw people in and create opportunities for spontaneous connection that might not happen otherwise.
You can build a great public space, but if there is no programming, people won’t come. North Vancouver’s Shipyards is a world-class example of how to design and activate a public space - with a massive waterpark (which transforms into a skating rink in the winter); gorgeous waterfront views; Adirondak chairs; giant toys and games; an ice cream shop; restaurants; breweries; a stage playing live music; regularly programmed events including movies, night markets, and yoga classes; art galleries; a public market; hotels; shops; public transit; and a seawall - all within 100 metres.
In comparison, when I visited Robson Square, Vancouver’s central public space, during the pandemic there was nothing going on except one tent trying to illegally sell marijuana baked goods. You can guess where most people would rather spend their time.
Third Spaces: More Than Just Coffee Shops
While discussing the benefits of walking and enjoying public spaces, Peg and I got on the topic of "third spaces." These are places that aren't homes or workplaces, but rather community hubs where we can gather, relax, and connect with others. Think of your local coffee shop, library, or even a dog park. These spaces are essential for fostering those spontaneous interactions with our neighbours that we may have lost during the pandemic.
Urban planning best practices suggest that every home should be within a 5-10 minute walk to a park, but we don’t talk about the importance of being able to easily walk to a coffee shop or corner store.
“I grew up in an apartment above a grocery store in Calgary. We had people buying groceries there, but also sitting on the deck or stairs eating popsicles and enjoying drinks. It became a gathering spot in my neighborhood, but I never thought about how important it was to have those places until the pandemic shut so many things down.”
Many cities are recognizing how zoning bylaws limit the ability to build these third spaces in residential areas. This includes Vancouver, which has streamlined the permitting process, offering micro-business licenses and creating flexible zoning regulations to allow for more mixed-use developments that include housing and ground-level shops or cafés.
Safe Streets and Small Interventions
When people can safely use streets for active transportation like walking and biking around their neighborhood, they are more likely to get out of their homes and cars to interact with their neighbors, support local businesses, and socialize outdoors. Sometimes, the simplest interventions to make our streets safe, like crosswalks, four-way stops, bollards, and lighting, can have the biggest impact.
Peg shared a story about her relatives visiting from Bogota, Colombia, who were amazed to be able to walk safely under Vancouver’s overpasses. It's a reminder that even details like well-lit walkways and wide sidewalks give people a sense of security and encourage walking.
We also spoke about how small, low-cost interventions such as adding more benches in our public spaces can build community. “One of my favorite episodes of the Alone Together podcast was about benches. They are special because they’re not just a place to sit, they’re spots available to anyone - that availability turns benches into opportunities for connections.”
“Benches are bridges between those eager to chat, and those wanting to just listen," said Peg. "When we sit on a bench, we’re indicating we’re part of a world that maybe we feel too lonely or afraid to fully participate in. Benches give us an opportunity to be engaged in our surroundings, whether it's observing from the side or opening up a chance for conversation.”
What Can We Do?
Rebuilding our connections in a post-pandemic city doesn't have to involve a lot of effort. Here are a few ways to start:
Support local businesses: Visit that new coffee shop, browse the farmers market, or check out a local art show. These activities help keep our communities vibrant and promote spaces for us to gather.
Get involved: Go to those local events in your community, or even volunteer to help organize one. Lobby your local government for safer streets and better public spaces. You might be surprised at how quickly you can connect with others who share your interests.
Start small: Organize a neighborhood gathering, strike up a conversation with someone on the bus, or simply offer a friendly smile to a passerby. Even if that means, you know, checking in on our neighbours, asking if someone is doing ok. These small acts of kindness can go a long way in building a sense of community.
We all have a role to play in creating the kind of city we want to live in. According to Peg, "we have a responsibility to reach out to other people to make our communities a place where everyone feels connected."
