Hi all! Thank you @rimeswithpurple, @cutestkilla, @thewholelemon, and @forabeatofadrum for the recent tags! I can’t believe it’s already this late in the year. It’s not Sunday yet, but I’m working tomorrow so I’m just going ahead and posting early so I can feel like I did something. I know tomorrow can be a hard day for some, but here’s wishing a very Happy Mother’s Day to those of you to whom it applies, and a peaceful day to those for whom it’s a little more difficult ❤️

I’ve been relatively busy with my writing this week (GASP) so I have a couple of things to share. First, some Baz POV from the second chapter of The Field Trap—things are looking up at last:

Eight snakes and a dragon. I knew he would be wet when he came blustering in—it’s why I unpacked his rucksack and laid his spare clothes out by the lit stove—but I still wasn’t prepared for the sight of Simon Snow’s ridiculously thin t-shirt and uniform pants cleaving to his body as though they’d become part of his skin. His chest is heaving, his curls are dripping in his eyes, and he’s holding aloft a brace of four large rabbits that he’s already cleaned.

Honey, I’m home, he’d said, and I know it was a joke, but if I wasn’t dead before, I certainly am now.

“Wipe your feet before you come in any farther,” I say shortly. “Dry clothes are by the fire.” I turn my back and hear him laying down the rabbits and his bow and arrows. Two loud thumps signal his shoes coming off, and then there’s the slushy sound of wet cloth rubbing against itself as Simon makes his way over to the fire.

“You laid my clothes out for me,” he says, like he’s awestruck. I bite the inside of my cheek and stare up at the ceiling, trying not to visualize what’s going on behind me as I hear his sodden clothes hitting the floor. “Baz?”

“What.” Who am I kidding, I’m very much visualizing all of it.

“You can look.” His throat sounds dry. I shake my head, eyes squeezed shut now with the effort of holding my fangs in. “Do you not want to?”

I try to think about everything I told him earlier. He’s going to end up following the Mage to the end of our world someday, and I’ll have to stand with my family. I think about my fangs, ready to burst from my gums at just a hair’s more provocation. I think about how inexperienced with all this I am, and I feel hopeless. And yet…

I turn around.

My second share is from the piece I’m doing for COBB, which I’m really happy to say that the first 5000 word chapter is completely written for. I feel strangely…competent? LOL. Here’s a bit of Dev POV:

And he did. I watched with a cold sort of horror as my cousin, always the more powerful magician of the two of us, stood on our balcony and asked the universe for a handsome man with blue eyes, golden skin dusted with stars, and curls that were neither fully blond nor brown. He would be strong, brave of heart, and make the best sour cherry scones in the world (sour cherry? That’s not even a real type of scone, I wanted to say). Instead I’d said, “That doesn’t sound impossible,” in spite of the sparkly-sounding skin. Baz had given me stink-eye as only he could and can, before adding the coup de grace: “He will have the blood-red wings of a dragon, and a tail.”

It had taken all I had not to burst into laughter at that, but my headstrong cousin was already pressing rose petals into the potion and blowing his breath onto them as he tossed them out into the night air. “Baz,” I’d admonished, but the spell was cast, his heartbroken wish already caught by the breeze and curling up, up, towards where the full moon hung heavy and silent in the sky.

Thank you @roomwithanopenfire, @talentpiper11 & @blackberrysummerblog for the tags! Everyone had a bit of a lie in this morning, the Little Purples and I went to see a Shakespeare on the Bluff performance of Much Ado About Nothing last night. I'm honestly surprised they made it through the whole thing since they didn't follow any of the plot, but they were very excited that the audience was encouraged to cheer, boo or shout out. Littlest Purple had the best time booing at the villain and even yelled "no" when Benedict proposed to Beatrice and that earned her a laugh from everyone around us.

I got quite a bit of drawing done! The line work on my COAR artwork is done and I'm so thrilled with it. I'm a sucker for detail and I had a lot of fun getting the Oxford shoes just right. I'm finishing up art for chapter 2 of my COBB. I have to stop myself from illustrating every scene, my partner has written so many scenes that beg to be illustrated! I've also been playing around with a fandom tattoo idea. The bun Baz looks so lonely and I really should get him shaded in too!

Side note, I've found myself listening to @youarenevertooold's podfic for Bazlow's Hierarchy of Needs every night when I sit down to draw. It's so funny and a chaotic Dev really is the best kind of Dev! If you haven't checked it out, you definitely should!

Simon's birthday is such a fun time of year and I loved seeing everyone's posts! I thought I might include some fun facts about my birthday spread below the cut, in addition to the tags

-I keep a journal of my baking and I had jotted down my pie in the sky idea for this year's birthday bake just hours after posting the butter cake last year. I never expected to be able to hit every item, but I surprised even myself and the only thing I didn't do was add flecks of edible gold paint to the petit fours

-I already have next year's bake plotted out and I think it's even bigger

-I had asked for a Fortnum & Mason hamper for my birthday after having read Snow for Christmas. I've given them as very special gifts in the past, but Daphne's love of it reminded me that I love it too!

-The pouring fondant for the petit fours can sense your fear and it's unforgiving. You have to commit to pouring it evenly and quickly because you only get one shot. My family was delighted to eat the rejects

-My hands were red for two days because I foolishly didn't wear gloves when I was making the wings and tails

-I mixed in little chunks of almond paste with the sour cherry scones and it was the best thing ever

-The checkerboard cookies were a reference to the battenburg cake I made last year

I have so much fun doing these birthday bakes! I love that it brings other people joy and the lovely comments I get mean the world to me! Although, I think from now on I may only do birthday bakes for Simon and Baz

yusuf - tabla : he’s got THE look for the position. trust me. And also I believe he’s the one who had the best table top drum beating talent during school. The chemistry instrument.

eames - Sitar : the one instrument which adds colour of the sound and emotion to the whole thing. the most eye-catchy instrument as well! add a flute to it and it’s heaven

arthur - flute : the instrument which decides whether the rest of the band is gonna get a standing ovation or rotten eggs thrown at them. sweet and precise. creates magic with the sitar.

cobb - serpina/harmonium : brings out the best of each instrument and sells the audience what a good performance the band is giving. needs to be crazily talented to wield this.

Mal - tambourine - the shrill sound of it commands attention and respect and the rhythm and suaveness of the instrument is unparalleled. it’s lovely.

ariadne - xylophone- the cherry on top. makes the whole band complete and can adopt to any song the band wishes to play. beautiful and efficient.

saito - taiko - adds richness. looks scary and is scary and you need to have a lot of strength to create music but it’s worth it.

Alright boys, girls, and everything else, time for another trademark insane ACNH villager poll!

Recently I’ve redone my island to have a more Halloween/Goth theme with help from my daughter! We have witchy goth girls (Muffy, Cherry), morbid ladies (Ankha, Coco), sci-fi folk (Octavian, Ruby), and Bigfoot (Hans, perched atop his very own three-tier mountain). I’ve decided I’ll be bringing back my mammoth boy Tucker, who is one of my favs and who I’ve always regretted booting way back when. This has put two villagers on the chopping block:

Rodeo, a pitch black Lazy wizard bull with pink eyes.

Cobb, a mad scientist zombie pig who is also a Jock for some reason.

I’ve also considered getting rid of both and bringing back another suitable villager who I miss (Beardo, Julian, Roscoe, and Dobie being top contenders).

So since I’m as indecisive as ever, I’ve decided to once more then to my loyal (?) fans (???) for their opinion!

But something I really miss in a super underrated way is Cobb salad. Putting hard boiled eggs in a little line next to garden veggies really elevated it from convenience food to luxury breakfeasting

There's no way I can describe eating a hardboiled egg that sounds like I am genuinely sad that eating them could kill me but ground cherries will never be the same without them

The Like We Had A Clue writing block is still strong, but here's the first sentence of the next chapter, hoping it will be followed by other sentences soon 😂:

This time, Snow swings the door open before I can even ring the bell.

I'm currently feeling a bit overwhelmed at the thought of all the WIPs I have on AO3 (COTTA, CORB, COBB to mention just a couple of them) because I really want to work on all of them, but I'm trying not to beat myself up about it. I know people will appreciate my words whenever they're ready, and I'd rather work on what sparks joy than force myself to focus on certain WIPs and not write anything 💗

Having said this, I'm back at working on 47572 things at the same time! I have so many projects for EGF and I'm curious to see how many of them I can finish. Here's one that's about half done already, so there's hope for it 😂. It's very rough but whatever:

“So you've been spying on me this whole time?” I smirk. The thought makes me feel hot all over. Baz is incredibly handsome, and the image of him looking at me from under my bed…

“Fuck, no! I don’t watch. Not without your consent.”

“Bummer,” I say, and slap a hand on my mouth. What the fuck, Simon? Am I into being watched by the monster under my bed every second of my life? When I get changed, when I spend the afternoon dancing and doing bad karaoke and tripping in the cord of my charger? When I wank? Fuck. I am into it. “I would’ve liked that.”

He stays silent for a long moment. “I guess that could be arranged.”

An old WIP I rediscovered yesterday and am hoping I can finish soonish:

He should be grateful. I watch all the stupid ads he makes and even click on the affiliate links even though I already know I will not buy a kitchen robot or a set of comfy joggers, not even if I'd get to use #SimonSnow61 as a discount code. I replay his reels and his idiotic TikToks until my eyes blur. I like his posts. I engage with them. I'm basically the reason why he's famous and can live a comfortable life.

And if I went out of my way to find him even on an app not associated with his name or public persona, it's not my fault. It's on him for not hiding himself better.

It's on him for being a fan of the book series that's been consuming half of my thoughts for the past two years.

Which brings me back to the issue at hand.

Snow's slander of the painfully accurate meta I posted last night about how the epitome of heroism and heterosexuality that Soren Cherry is could never fall in love with morally grey, tormented antihero Fangvald Wampyrsen.

This WIP is fun.
