The capitol style from each of the sub-classes
1. The Patrician (or Patricius)
based on the groups of ruling class families in ancient Rome
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Patrician was a very exclusive and hereditary segment of society constituted of the few wealthy families that survived the old days! As the real “old-money” from Panem, their social class was plainly showed in the way they presented themselves: with an strong sense of elegance, grace and tradition, they preferred sophisticated over frivolous, as their fashion style embraced classic cuts, high-quality material, gold-plated fabric and refined textiles that harmonized perfectly with their offensively expensive jewelry and accessories. It was where mostly of the people who were wealthy enough to Sponsor the games and afford appointments with young victors, came from -full of long lines of Gamemaker, Politicians and absurdly rich house wives
2. The Equestrians (or Equites)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Equestrians, although still part of the upper class and usually associated with glamorous fashion and Propaganda, weren’t important enough to have direct contact with the President and his administration. Developed from the “new money” families who survived the war, this caste was constituted by owners of huge fortunes with no political impact- therefore, as a way to compensate the lack of governmental influence, the Equestrians opted to draw attention by chosen pompous and extravagant outfits. The style embraced loud colors, fluffy dresses, exaggerated accessories with almost comical makeup techniques and ostentatious hairstyles. The goal was to mix haut couture with maximalist fashion in cloths that screamed excessive wealth, however still prioritizing good quality fabrics and expensive jewelry. There was no restriction for creativity when i came to explore all kind of shades and forms, resulting in a bunch of different modern-cuts and colors that were comical identical to clown costumes. This segment of society were usually constituted by the high income category of entrepreneur, models, escorts, actress and etc…
3. the Plebeian (worst of the best)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the lowest class of the Capitols, the Plebeians assumed the position of powerless and low incomes families that somehow managed to survive in the modern world. The lack of power and money forced them to improvise their clothing in shabby pieces of cloth with scraps of other disassembled dresses. Without enough budget to spend in haut couture, good quality fabrics and expensive adornments, their style embraced tacky and cheap textiles that were made into overwrought and gaudy dresses, old, shredded wigs or hair scarves and trashy makeup techniques. This caste system was usually constructed by forgotten stylists, traders and fallen socialists who eventually lost their importance

I too would love a Haymitch POV, but you know what POV I'd love to see in sunrise? Haymitch's mentor.
Allegedly, at least according to the Capitol, there's no previous victor of district 12, so I'm assuming the mentor must be Capitol-assigned. However, other districts like 1 and 2 will have had countless of winners after 49 games, in fact I'm guessing most districts will have victors as mentors. But not district twelve, not yet.
I wonder how it would feel, as a Capitol citizen, to be so excited to be assigned a mentor position, to dress up all flashy for it and to then sit in a room filled with anxious, deeply traumatized people watching what you consider the Eurovision of your youth as they quietly despise every second of it and watch in horror as you laugh and clap. It must be so strange, so isolating and uncanny, so unlike everything you've ever known to hear these victors' snide comments towards the gamemakers, their ungratefulness for what they've gotten from their own victories and their unfiltered hatred that hides behind the famous, glorious personas you know them as. Every second in the training center with your two tributes, in the moments shared with your fellow mentors as they gear up to talk to sponsors as if they're readying for battle, it all leaves small cracks in the worldview you've gotten so comfortable with for all your life.
Yeah, I truly wonder how that mentor must feel.

I have a lot of thoughts about the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes adaptation, but my main takeaway right out of the movie has to be this: they didn't show Snow's unhinged and burning hatred for mockingjays nearly enough.

i had some thoughts about this kinda idea before but it came to me again last night — i often think about how hard life gets for yuna after she becomes high summoner. living in spira as a popular religious figure just intensifies the process of trying to live your days with trauma you cannot ever fully process + forming bonds that are meaningful / do not feel false because even in x-2 new yevon ( or the youth league ) tried to take advantage of that, for example ( seeking her as approval to gain spira's general appreciation, trying an arranged marriage between the high summoner + the praetor and whatnot ). everyone would want the approval of the high summoner, and thus it becomes basically impossible for yuna to do things that go under the radar. i think people in spira need a long time to learn what it is like to live life without sin, and so falling into the old habits is very effective, especially when they've been perpetuated for decades. i have this idea that they would easily try to see meaning behind anything yuna were to do, because of her influential status as a) braska's daughter, b) a high summoner, c) the only living high summoner, and the list could go on with other features such as two times saviour, seymour's widow possibly having some influence on it as well for the most old yevonites / guados? all of that has meaning in front of the eyes of the believers — i mean, all of spira, really.
my thought is that yuna is not naive the way she was, and now knows the way of her world, and especially knows that everyone is selfish in their own pursuits to some degree. so i've mentioned before how over time she tends to close in itself and as a result not speak much anymore / freely as she once did, part of the reason i would say is because she knows she needs to weight her words now; she would freely express herself in her entirety before, when she knew her life had a deadline and that her words would be used perhaps to do good once she was gone, but now that she's the first of a long series of sacrificial high summoners she does not know who to look back to for an example to follow, and she is setting in stone the end of all summoners who were seen as so high, and she the highest of them all.
i think another expression of that is also her inability to form meaningful new bonds. she's hyper aware of her surroundings and she does not trust anything she's being told / people she meets anymore. she's very attached to the past, but that too brings about too much unresolved trauma that ends up making her more stoic as time passes. she decides to take after her father and what people told her he was like — ultimately, at heart she will always be the same yuna, but time has consumed all her energy, and distanced herself from the one that would blindly see the good in the world. there is evil in the shadows and she knows she must put an end to all of it, which is also the reason why her body and mind seem to give in as years go by: her biggest fault is taking everything as her own responsibility. high summoners were always seen as saviors, as problem solvers, the shields of spira even literally, and now her internalized issue is that she thinks everything that may cause distress is hers to fix and solve. it's the main streamlined idea as to why i think she suffers the farpane's instability, even though realistically she cannot do anything about it. she knows that only the guado have the tools to maintain it, and yet she feels this need to take it upon herself to "fix" it.
she has shown savior complex a lot of times before, even in canon ( i think x-2 is the prime example. it's presented as a plotline with yuna being "selfish" and trying to live her life in spite of her past, but if you have played through it you know that in the end it's just her going place to place to fix things, taking things upon herself she does not need to — i mean, vegnagun itself was not something that she should have tasked herself with, even knowing that the crimson squad / new yevon / the youth league was on it way before her she still pursues it, and many more examples in the entirety of the plot honestly ) and i have reason to believe it is so internalized that it seems almost impossible to put a bandaid to it, which is why she takes onto the life long task of studying all of via infinito ( + all the hidden things beneath bevelle and possibly beneath zanarkand ruins tbh, there's no way the same isn't there ) when, truly, her role as spira's savior should have ended long ago.

I'm legally not allowed to interact much with the Hunger Games fandom because I'm an american studies major in my 20s and would disrupt the fragile ecosystem of teenagers engaging with fictional depictions of fascist structures and just war theory.
The other reason is that I would have to immediately combust from Hypocrite Disease because I had self-insert Hunger Games OCs and engaged in shipping discourse, too. That's part of how we engage with depictions of fascist structures and just war theory as teenagers, and enabling that is part of what makes the franchise so special.
This reduces my natural habitat to 2-hour video essays about the cultural geography of Panem (x) and a few select posts, but that's a price I'm willing to pay for conservation.
#ramble#i am purposefully not naming any specific posts or takes that made me physically bite my tongue#because i am not going to stifle that. like even aside from politics. people deserve to engage with their fandoms however they want#especially when theyre young. they dont need me dropping a 10k essay on why their form of engagement is problematic#but this one most of all. this one needs to develop naturally.#“theyre so stupid for missing the point” says the mean voice in my head knowingly ignoring that that IS part of the point#im not tagging the fandom for the same reasons but i assume the tumblr word association crawler catches it anyway#i read the trilogy the first time when i was 13. the first book again in class when i was 16. again for leisure at 23#and now im 27 and reading them again for hyperfixation reasons. and theres still stuff i didnt catch before.#when i was 13-16 i came up with a (fairly obvious) concept for a Hunger Games video game and I always wondered why they didnt made one#(aside from that one facebook idle game thats now defunct)#itd be an almost guaranteed cash cow. you could even do multiplayer. but i get it now. oh boy do i get it now.#still mixed feelings on the movies. i guess theyre as good as they were going to get.#i think one of those hbo franchise adaptation series would work quite well but theyd conflict with the target demographic#but oh man consider if they did all this marketing about a faithful retelling and how brutal and extreme it was#and then throughout the first episode it slowly sinks in that they're not showing anything of Katniss privately.#only the scenes in front of cameras. starts with the reaping. then the chariots. the interviews. only what capitol citizens would see.#the movies kinda muddies the line by having a different tv culture whenever they do capitol view.#but man imagine if they pulled that with a direct imitation of how we do reality tv now. sound effects and talking heads etc#if the hunger games happened today. do you think wed make memes about the dying tributes? (the answer is yes btw)
