Aztec Sun Stone (Calendar Stone) depicts five consecutive worlds of the sun from Aztec mythology.

Stone is not, therefore, in any sense a functioning calendar, but rather it is an elaborately carved solar disk, which for Aztecs and other Mesoamerican cultures represented rulership.

At the top of the stone is a date glyph (13 reed), which represents both beginning of the present sun, fifth and final one according to mythology, and the actual date 1427 CE, thereby legitimizing the rule of Itzcoatl (who took power in that year) and creating a bond between divine and mankind.

Stone was discovered in December 1790 CE in central plaza of Mexico City. It now resides in National Museum of Anthropology in that city.

The richly carved basalt stone was once a part of the architectural complex of Temple Mayor and measures 3.58m in diameter, is 98cm thick, and weighs 25 tons.

Stone would originally have been laid flat on the ground and possibly anointed with blood sacrifices.

When it was discovered, the stone was lying flat and upside down, perhaps in an attempt to prevent the final cataclysm — fall of fifth and final sun as Aztec world fell apart following the attack from Old World.

At the centre of the stone is a representation of either the sun god Tonatiuh (the Day Sun) or Yohualtonatiuh (the Night Sun) or the primordial earth monster Tlaltecuhtli, in the latter case representing the final destruction of the world when the fifth sun fell to earth.

The tongue is perhaps also a sacrificial knife and, sticking out, it suggests a thirst for blood and sacrifice.

Around the central face at four points are other four suns, which successively replaced each other after gods Quetzalcoatl and  Tezcatlipoca struggled for control of the cosmos until the era of the fifth sun was reached.

The suns are known by the day name on which their final destruction occurred.

Beginning from the top right, there is the first sun Nahui Ocelotl (4 - Jaguar), top left is the second sun Nahui Ehécatl (4 - Wind), bottom left the third sun Nahui Quiáhuitl (4 - Rain), and bottom right is the fourth sun Nahui Atl (4 - Water).

On either side of the central face are two jaguar heads or paws, each clutching a heart, representing the terrestrial realm.

The band running immediately around the suns is segmented into the 20 Aztec day-names (hence Calendar Stone name).

Then there is a decorative ring surrounded by another ring depicting symbols, which represent turquoise and jade, symbols of the equinoxes and solstices, and the colours of the heavens.

Two heads at bottom centre represent fire serpents, and their bodies run around perimeter of the stone with each ending in a tail.

Four cardinal and the inter-cardinal directions are also indicated with larger and lesser points respectively.

In midrashic tradition, Moshe spent 40 days on Mount Sinai speaking to HaShem not once but three times. His first return to the Israelite camp was on the 17th of Tammuz, his second return, with the second set of tablets to replace the set that shattered when he’d thrown to the ground in rage and shock upon seeing the golden calf, was on the 28th of Av. Then he went up the mountain a third time from the first of Elul to request divine forgiveness for the breaches of covenant the people had committed since the revelation on Sinai a few months prior. That third journey up Mount Sinai served as a metaphor for the individual and communal processes of teshuvah that Jewish tradition encourages through Elul and the Yamim Noraim, culminating in the Yom Kippur service.

The broken and whole tablets are also a powerful symbol of the repair that’s possible through sincere teshuvah. Both the first shattered tablets and the second set given as a replacement were kept in the Aron haBarrit as a sign of Hashem’s promises to the people.

"Come on, Senku, do you really need to do this now?"

"It's not like I asked you to come over in the first place. You're begging won't move me one millimeter," Senku said, not looking up from his book even when Gen came up behind him, leaning over his shoulder to skim the words.

"We're on break. Isn't that when you're supposed to cut back on studying?" He sighed, unable to understand a word in Senku's textbook.

"It's not for school. I'm reading up on it to prepare for a new project I'm working on."

"But," he shifted closer, breath tickling Senku's ear as he spoke, "wouldn't you rather spend time with me?"

"No," he swatted at him like a fly, eyes still on the book. Gen yelped loudly as his hand hit him square in the face, eliciting a chuckle from Senku and an all too smug smirk. 

Eyes narrowing, he acted without thinking, shooting his hands down to squeeze at Senku's sides.

"What's so funny now?"

He made a strangled noise of surprise, one that sounded like he was choking more than anything, then laughed, something low and quiet, rumbling from the back of his throat. 

"Whahat ahare you dohohoing?" he protested, once again trying to swat Gen away, but he was too quick, rapidly jumping between spots on Senku's torso with childish glee.

"Obviously, I'm tickling you. You'd think someone with your intelligence would be able to figure that out."

"Whihihy?" he squirmed, mentally cursing the position he'd landed himself. Sitting at his desk with Gen's arms on either side of him, escape seemed impossible. Ordinarily Gen wasn't much stronger than him, but the ticklish sensation spreading throughout his body was draining the little strength he had. His arms were going limp. It was as if his touch was sending little shocks through Senku at each poke and prod, making his body jolt and his heart beat faster and his limbs go numb.

He was ten billion percent sure he stood no chance. 

"Well, you were being awfully rude to me earlier. I think a little payback is only fair, don't you?"

Senku wanted to protest, to ask how exactly this was payback, to tell him that he'd rather be hit instead, but any semblance of a sentence was interrupted by the embarrassingly loud noise Gen drew from him when he squeezed his ribs.

"Now this is definitely a good spot."

His voice was oozing with satisfaction, and Senku swore that he'd get him back tenfold for this. Then all coherent thoughts left his mind as it suddenly got so much worse. Drilling into that one absolutely dreadful spot on his upper ribs, one he was all too familiar with thanks to his father's annoying antics, Gen broke him. 

He was laughing louder than he thought was even possible. His knees shot up, banging against the bottom of his desk, and his arms, that had been all too weak before, only able to helplessly clutch his stomach, were suddenly reinvigorated, shoving wildly at Gen in his poor escape attempt. 

When he was flailing so much he almost fell out of his chair, Gen finally took pity on him and stepped back, letting Senku recollect himself.

After a few minutes of fighting to regain control of laughter and breath, Senku gripped the edge of his chair, forcing himself up and staring at Gen with an evil glint in his eye, "You… are ten billion percent screwed."

For October I chose Senku and Suika from the anime Doctor Stone. Took us forever to really give this anime a chance because of the art style and the main character looks like a vegetable, but we both really liked it and need to watch the newest season. I am going to finish out this year but after that I am taking a break from my cat calendar pages, I am just too tired...

My brother and I got a rock advent calendar to share!!!

These are the ones I got so far. The first day I got a big sodalite. (My brother got amazonite yesterday that’s roughly the same size)

Today I got a little baby! It’s red agate I think
