Just imagine Steve figuring out he's bisexual and realizing that when he dates a girl, at a certain point into dating them, he's gonna have to tell them that he's also into men. Of course since it's the 80s, the chances of them being okay with that is probably slim. They might think he's disgusting or that he's just gay playing straight.
So he tries dating guys instead, thinking that's safer. And he ends up meeting a great guy named John at a gay bar who he really likes. Things are going strong until they started talking about past crushes and first loves. Steve casually mentions celebrity crushes on women and having loved Nancy. And thus Steve gets his first ever experience of the rampant biphobia in queer spaces. John accuses Steve of being confused and trying to hold onto his "straightness". Steve tries to explain himself by saying that, no, he really does like women, but that only makes things worse. John now believes that Steve is just going to eventually leave him for a woman, if he hasn't already been cheating on him. John ends up storming out leaving Steve devastated.
He goes crying to Robin and explains what happened. He's horrified to realize that no matter who he dates, there's always going to be the risk of them not accepting him, guy or girl. But he can't hide that part of himself, it's too big. It's who he is. Robin is there to reassure him that if someone can't accept him being bi than they don't deserve him. It's able to cheer him up a little, but the damage has been done.
Steve is now very reluctant to date anyone. And if he does manage to bring himself to go on one, he gets complaints of being very emotionally distant or having a fear of commitment.
When Steve inevitably falls for Eddie, he's scared out of his mind. It's clear that Eddie is gay based on his hanky, but, again, that doesn't mean he'll accept Steve's bisexuality. One night, while the two get so high in Eddie's trailer that Steve has to stay over, they argue about sleeping arrangements. Eddie keeps insisting that Steve would probably be more comfortable with Eddie sleeping in another room for some cryptic reason and Steve, who gets incredibly clingy while high, keeps shooting back with them sharing a bed being fine. When Steve keeps asking why they can't over and over again, Eddie blurts out that it's because he's gay. Without hesitation, Steve's says he knows and points at the hanky on the dresser by the bed. Staring at Steve for a moment, Eddie then asks how he knows about the hanky code. This time Steve hesitates. For awhile. It honestly scares Eddie for a moment, thinking he's been vecnad. If Steve hadn't been high, he maybe would have been able to think of an excuse, some way to get out of this conversation, but he can't. So he admits that he likes guys.
Eddie very excitedly starts asking a bunch of questions and talking about how they finally found something they have in common, who knew? When he notices the tears in Steve's eyes, he stops, confused, and asks what's wrong. So Steve tells him. He's not like Eddie. He's bisexual. And he braces himself for the backlash. For loosing his best friend and crush.
But then he feels a hand grab his. Eddie tells him that they still have something in common because he's also bi. Steve points out that he said he was gay, though. Eddie asks if he has ever told anyone that he was bi before, specifically gay men. Steve nods. Then he asks if it went well. Steve shakes his head. Eddie tells him that's why he said that. He's explains how tiring it is to have to explain his existence to people who won't get it and/or react badly to it. So he just tells guys that he's also gay. It just makes things easier. And Steve gets it. By God, does he get it. They spend the whole night exchanging stories and experiences, for the first time able to talk freely about their love life.
And by the end of the night, they stumble over each other trying to ask the other out. They laugh and both say yes.
#eddie just saying hes gay comes from my aroace experience of being too tired to have to explain my sexuality to people#and then having to defend it. its just so much easier to say im gay or queer as an umbrella term#also i like when biphobia is brought up more in fics with steve#because of how much being bisexual was an unknown/foreign concept to people#also i think bi eddie is neat#steddie#bisexual steve harrington#bisexual eddie munson#bi4bi steddie my beloved#tw biphobia#cw biphobia

If Brucie is rumored to be gay or bi, as a way to explain his lack of being committed to a trad wife, that has many ways it can go.
The positive side is that it would make woman feel safe if they thought he was gay because they know he probably won’t sexually harass them. It would also make other gays and bis feel safe enough to approach Brucie.
Negatively though? There will be constant rumors about whether or not he slept with every man he interacts with. If they believe the bi rumor more than the gay one then other women would feel less safe because if the idea he’s a sexual deviant that will fuck anything. He’s uncommitted, he’s a slut, lots of biphobia. The persistent homophobic rumor is that the reason why he adopted a child without getting married is because he’s a pedophile. Yes I’m talking about Dick/Robin. Or the idea he’d turn his kid gay, or the idea he’s unfit to parent at all.
Remember, those socialites Brucie hangs out with are old, traditional, and snobby. They are terrible people Brucie constantly has to invite to his charities. If I were Bruce I’d be sick of the attention too.

It's going around a bit (initially this was going to be an ask for @hasarjunadoneanythingwrong and then it got too long, and er sorry for the ping, your post just got me thinking a lot) but I think a lot of people are missing the point when it comes to why people complain about the lack of bisexuality in fate. It's not like everyone is completely ignorant to Rin's bisexual awakening in fsn, or you being able to go full Yuri with Nero in Extella. It's moreso that while type/moon are able to handle girl/girl just fine, they are seemingly completely unwilling to approach any male/male romances in a serious way. It's not that bisexual women aren't bisexual, that's stupid to say. But if you have an equal number of male and female servants, and have plenty of bisexual or even lesbian girls, as a bisexual male I am allowed to be disappointed by the complete lack of the opposite.
They never overtly say anything homophobic, but they do literally everything they can do avoid outright mentioning male/male pairings. They have never mentioned Patroclus, despite him being a major part of not just Achilles, but the Illiad as a whole, all while adding Penthisaela as an entire character. The only canon 'yaoi' pairing (Gil x Enkidu, and I say yaoi loosely) made sure to have Enkidu simultaneously be non-binary and take on the appearance of a woman. They quite literally demoted Nameless to side character due to Extella being more focused on romance. There's a whole bunch of minor stuff easy to miss as well, like, has anyone ever wondered why exactly they added the Trung Sisters as is, but felt the need to genderbend Pollux?
I could rant on more and more, but I think it's easy to point to one in-game event as being emblematic of what I mean, Valentines. Nearly every girl has an overtly or at least implicitly romantic valentines, comes with the territory. It doesn't change or matter if you're playing as Gudako or Gudao, it all stays the same, especially with early servants where it's just "teehee it's valentines day/oh it's valentines day" depending on how tsundere there are, they hand you chocolate, and then blush.png, they are never afraid to imply or outwardly say that at the very least Carmilla finds you cute.
Compare that to male valentines scenes, where genuinely I think there are less than 10 with any romantic vibes. A grand majority of them are closer to friendship than anything, and play out more like mini-interludes. And even of the ones that are romantic, much less than overt about it. Is Saito maybe being romantic when he says he wants to take you away from Chaldea and live alone? Probably. Is Taigong Wang trying to imply something when he takes you to the same river he took his wife too? Probably. Are they ever going to outwardly say it? Absolutely not, at least not when they're trying to take it seriously.
As you mentioned previously characters like Fergus and Bartholomew are the only exceptions, because yeah they'll call you hot and offer to fuck but that's because they want to fuck literally anything (anything with bangs for the latter), the joke is they're so horny it transcends sexuality. Genuinely the only male that comes to mind with a full on, "I have feelings for you" played straight is Oda Kippoushi (and even his gender situation is... Weird? Just a bit). Mori comes close, but even his ends with him looking at you as more of a friend, and quickly skirts away from topics of romance.
In fact, this disparity between male and female servants can be easily seen in Kid Gil's interlude of all things. In it he mentions a waterpark he was creating, and then you two fantasize about the type of servants there
It's played completely straight, just a bunch of summer servants that you and Gil fawn over. Immediately after, he starts rambling about how while he doesn't swing that way, there are all kinds of people at the park
And to show this off they... Turn it into a joke. Edison and Blackbeard as there. Compared to a bunch of servant girls fawning over you it's a bunch of men (none of which even had summer skins at the time), talking about working out and growing food, with Blackbeard yelling about how it's a bunch of servants with no story significance.
However, the absolute worst part is what Gudao can say in response to the fantasies. With the girls you get a single one, that you love the idea of it.
With the men however, you get two options, "hey that doesn't sound too bad" in which Gil just kinda disagrees and then moves on to the end. And then one where you literally outloud show your disgust towards the male choice, Gil scolds you for making him think of it, and he bans all adult men from the pools. I never really think of it but this is probably one of the most homophobic scenes in fgo lmao.
Regardless, the whole point of this was moreso that as a bisexual man myself, these kinds of things do kind of lodge themselves into my brain. Nobody has to like yaoi or anything, that's ridiculous, but when they go out of there way so often to avoid outright showing anything homosexual... It kind of just hurts. Even just a singular gay man would be nice, even if it probably would just be a joke about how they want to slobber on muscles or love femboys something. But there just... Isn't, there's a few vaguely implied mentions of gay men or bisexual men, but they will never expand on it or show it off to the same degree as they do with women, and I just wish there was more of it.

Marika's Order was of the official opinion that the gay was bad for the kingdom. No issues with lesbians, but dudes into dudes was a problem. The question of bisexuals was one of constant debate.

i honestly take issue with how in many fandoms in our year 2024 people stick to ships like "camps" and aren't open to others' exploration of different dynamics and treat it as some sort of a war zone instead of a place of experimenting and exploration
and people are willing to go through mental gymnastics to justify to everyone and themselves how it's """problematic""" to like anything else instead of just saying "yeah this other thing? it's just not my cup of tea, i interpret this character differently"
there's so little variety and there's so little acceptance and instead of accepting someone's HC that a character is bisexual people will make up how it's problematic to perceive anyone anything but gay (astarion, despite being canonly pansexual) or how it's somehow """""problematic""""" to involve a pregnant woman in a romantic situation (spiderverse)
it's childish and incredibly dishonest, in my opinion

Random Asshole: The question mark is for what? Your sexuality? *laughts* *no one else laughts*
Riddler: *deadpan* Is for my gender actually.
Random Asshole: What does this even mean? Is this one of those new trends for weirdos? Do you think you are a woman or some shit? Maybe a dog. Bark bark.
Riddler: *stims* Oh! Oh! I have an idea. I can explain my gender to you via riddle *asshole guy groans* wait I still didn't told you the best part! If you solve it wrong *giggles* you die.
-
Random Asshole 2: *talking about Two-Face *He is completly crazy with the two stuff. I bet he calls himself bissexual just for the aesthetic may even fuck little boys like a proper degenerate.
Two-Face: First let me educate you in some simple things: We ARE bissexual. Always were bissexual. Even before the scar Harvey Dent was notably bissexual. Never hided it. And we - bissexuals but also me and Harv - are not degenerates nor pedophiles and I sleep with proper grown man, you brother for one. Second and this one is my favorite: Harv and I actually agreed for once. *picks gun* *shoots the biphobe twice in both legs* Have a pleasant day, sir!
-
Random Asshole 3: Oh look the sissy with all it's make-up thinking she can scare me.
Joker: *rolling his eyes* And I though Batsy had a fragile masculinity *whispering* do you heard that he doesn't even pleasure his laddies tsk tsk? *points a gun at the guy* Look pal I use make-up because I'm a clown and also because I'm sexy. You certainly are one of those things. *laughs* I would let you decide wich one but honestly the fact that no even paying got woman to sleep with you eh it's just too obvious. Unfortunally you're a bad clown. And I normally just kill homophobes. Easier, faster. Maybe sent their hearts as a cute declaration for Batsy. Buuuut bad clowns need to be punished more... Learn to be good clowns. So let Papa Joker teach you *hits the guy head with the gun and orders his goons to take him to the "fun house"* *laughts maniacally*
-
Random Asshole 4: I'm not a homophobe. I'm all in for chicks kissing. I'm soo in that I had to ask you girls to do a scene with me *raises eyebrows sugestivally* If you know what I mean?
Harley: The audacity!! *Get's ready to kill the man with her bat* *Ivvy's plants hold the bat at the last moment before it crushes the guys head*
Ivvy: Babe no.
Random Asshole: See she understands the appel! *to Ivvy* It can be just you and me, darling.
Ivvy: *not even looking at the guy* We need to kill him slower. Truly appreaciate it, you know?
Harley: *squeaking excidetdly* Oh! You soo right, Red! We don't have a torture session in soo long. *cracking her knuckles* Is going to be sooo much fun!

the dragon age characters could out loud go "i'm bisexual/pansexual" and there would still be ppl like "hmmmmm i feel like they were writing them as gay/lesbian/straight and chose playersexual (UGH) to appeal to people" bc imo they just genuinely hate us and view us as lesser queer rep when u consider how many times ppl in general throw them "if u dont make them gay/lesbian then at least make them bi"........... im not even active in the fandom and ive seen so much bi/panphobia from ppl but what else is new in fandom spaces :/
True, and you've got the contingent on reddit that insists they're all straight (except for the most flirtatious/sexually active character(s). Then it Makes Sense for them to be bi).
I understand wanting more gay and lesbian rep among the LIs since we've only had Dorian and Sera and the only other canon gay characters are non-romanceable NPCs (Briala, Celene, Wade, Herren, etc). It means a lot to me that Sera's a lesbian woman. But they have spelled it out for the audience, both in-universe and out, that these characters are pansexual (or panromantic demisexual in Lucanis's case).
They explicitly gave them all some kind of romantic history with or interest in more than one gender, outside of Rook. They shouldn't have to do that, because bi/pan people don't owe anyone a perfectly balanced list of People they've been with or been interested in over the course of their life, but they did it because they knew people would respond like this. And it's still not enough.

Just saw your Star Wars sapphic AU, and,,,,, PLEASE tell me they're all actual sapphics/lesbians and not manlikers 😭 Just one sapphic AU without bihets and switch hitters in it PLEAAASEEE I can't handle any more of their cis man worship in this fandom
Ok so this message is disgusting ngl, but I will *try* (and fail) to take your message in good faith, and assume the weirder parts of it are born from ignorance and not a wish to other and harm members of the queer *community*, especially bi and trans people.... Right ?
No, not everyone in my sw au is a lesbian, or cis, that's why it's called a sapphic au and not a lesbian au. I started listing specific orientations in my recap, even if I usually like keaping it ambiguous.
But your message kinda rubbed me the wrong way :) so just for you anon, let me share the most bi aspects of my au !
- Padmé had multiple relationships before Anakin, Palo and Rush Clovis, both men.
- I ship Vader and Boba Fett, and in my au Vader uses he/him (contrary to Anakin who uses she/her, link to a previous ask were I explain it further) and Boba she/her, making it *technically* a het adjacent ship, and Boba bisexual.
- Obi wan and Lando are bisexual because obviously.
- I really like the idea of Luke being asexual bi romantic, and I like both the Luke/Biggs Darklighter and Luke/Zevulon Veers ships, both men (rip the Han/Luke shippers kdidkdk I respect it, but I prefer Hanleia-)
- And while I'm at it, Luke Lando and Han are all different flavors of non binary, so not women. (As a lesbian I do find non binary people attractive, and know non binary lesbians. But seeing how this ask is formulated, I just felt the need to reinstate that <3)
To sum it up, in my sapphic au I concider Obi wan, Padmé, Boba Fett, Lando, Leia and Luke bisexuals :)
Frankly, from a lesbian to another, in your message you sound like a huge loser who doesn't have male friends and experiences the queer community only through tumblr. Go outside bro, "manlikers" are awesome.
PS : English isn't my first language, so I had to google what "switch hitters" meant. I don't know if it's a slur, but what definition I could find said it implies a bi person is indecisive about their sexuality. And that sounds biphobic to me ngl- I could be wrong, but seing the dog shit message it's attached to....
#good for you for being a coward because I would have blocked you <3#hope this made you flee !#cw biphobia#cw transphobia#star wars sapphic au#ask answered

George Villiers 1st Duke of Buckingham in Fiction - a partial summary
CW: discussions of biphobia and homophobia in historical fiction and current historiography.
Feeling both inspired and outraged in equal measure by the upcoming Mary&George series, and having been fascinated with this remarkable man since forever, I have decided to post this partial overview of portrayals of George in fiction. The ones in bold are the ones I have read. Feel free to add to the list.
The Three Musketeers, Alexandre Dumas
The Honey and The Sting, Elizabeth Freemantle
My Queen My Love, E.M Vidal
Cavalier Queen, Fiona Mountain
The Dangerous Kingdom Of Love, Neil Blackmore
The Fallen Angel, Tracy Borman
Wife Of Great Buckingham, Hilda Lewis
Darling Of Kings, P J Womack
The Queens Dwarf, Ella March Chase
The Smallest Man, Frances Owen
The Spanish Match, Brennan Purcell
Captain Alatriste, Arturo Pérez-Reverte
The Cardinal and The Queen, Evelyn Anthony
Earthly Joys, Philippa Gregory
Myself My Enemy, Jean Plaidy
Charles The King, Evelyn Anthony
The Young And Lonely King, Jane Lane
The Fortunes Of Nigel, Walter Scott
The Crowned Lovers, E Barrington
The Minion, Raphael Sabiniti
The Murder In The Tower, Jean Plaidy
A Net For Small Fishes, Lucy Jago
The Arm and the Darkness, Taylor Caldwell
Les Gloires et les perils (?), Robert Merle
And a few I’m not so sure about where George is mentioned in passing: .
Viper Wine, Hermionie Eyre
John Saturnalls Feast, Lawrence Norfolk
Rebels and traitors, Lindsay Davis
The Assassin, Ronald Blythe
Some observations, in no particular order:
Novels set mostly in James reign often have George as a rival to Robert Carr and will attempt to foreshadow how much worse he will be compared to Carr.
The ones that feature Henrietta Maria as Protagonist or at least POV character, where George is normally a baddie trying to sabotage HM and Charles I's relationship, and his death is often portrayed as some sort of salvation for HM. In these books George will often be lamed for things which were IRL Charles's fault such as the expulsion of HMs French household in 1626.
Three Musketeers is practically a category in its own right due to all the film/tv adaptions but has had relatively few clones or imitators in English which is something of a surprise
George is only a protagonist in one of these books (Darling of Kings, P J Womack) in the rest he's a cameo or a villain
Rumours that I suspect authors know is nonsense are repeated verbatim such as Tracy Borman's baseless speculation about G offing the Manners brothers, king James, and his rumoured involvement with the occult.
Georges relationships with James and Charles respectively are mentioned but not meaningfully explored. neither are any other personal relationships he had.
The insights and shifts in terms of post 1970s revisionist and post revisionist scholarship esp. Roger Lockyer's bio of George have not found their way into any fiction set in this era. Georges capability as an administrator and manager of patronage is more often than not totally absent.
the general view of George and why he's often shown in such a negative light is pretty much "well, he was willing to god knows what with that dirty old man James; who knows what other depravities he was capable of" and its female authors who really seem to lean into this, which I find fascinating and disturbing.
EDIT (can’t believe I forgot this) George’s murder in 1628 is always the result of some sort of aristocratic conspiracy rather than the act of terrorism it was IRL. I do get why authors do this - the amount of world building and foreshadowing needed to make it seem plausible rather than random in universe. However making it the result of personal grudge rather than ideological violence detracts from why it was so shocking and important.
#Well this is longer than I intended#tedious drivel#CW biphobia#CW: Homophobia#george villiers#duke of buckingham#mary & george#mary and george#Charles I#James I#Henrietta Maria#I need something better to do with my time
