Thoughts on Masks 8x05 stills
When you consider that we haven't had a Halloween episode since season 5 for whatever real world reason but then put it in the context of the 911 verse, Buck's excitement over his corpse decoration becomes a lot more understandable. He's not just excited about a decoration, he's excited about working on Halloween with his family. You see, if we look at the seasons that didn't have a Halloween episode as our beloveds not being on shift that day, then they haven't worked a Halloween shift for three years.
Look at how he's standing, shoulder back, tall and so proud of himself. "Look at me, Dad! Look what I got for us, isn't it great?"
They're not so sure, because it looks very life (death?) like and knowing Buck, it might just be an actual real-life (death??) corpse.
Buck knows it's Bobby he has to convince. Chim's on board at once, he's intrigued and excited. Look at him playfully spraying fog at Bobby to make him laugh and agree! Hen's just all "Hmm, Buck's being Buck again, okay, it's just another day."
Eddie, meanwhile, is wondering why the corpse is dressed in HIS bachelor party costume...
"Buck, did you not only keep my destroyed, vomit encrusted suit but also wash it and then dress a dead body in it? MY suit?? What the hell were you thinking, man?!" Tell me that suit is not one hell of a lot cleaner than it was when we last saw Eddie wearing it....
Buck's just like, "Well, obviously I washed it. It stank! Who wants to smell that all shift?" "But smelling a desiccated corpse all shift is alright," Bobby dead pans with that delightful dry wit of his, and Buck launches into an explanation that no, actually, it doesn't, because once the flesh reaches a certain point of decay it begins to dry out and did you know.....
Ahh I cannot wait for this episode!!! Even more so when Oliver has told us he likes this episode and in my (admittedly shaky) memory, he's said that about episodes when Buck has been whumped in the past. So I'm hoping the spider bite or whatever it is goes a lot worse for him than we're expecting lol.
(list of previous Halloween episodes below the cut, lmk if I missed any!)
1x07 Full Moon (Creepy AF) Honorable shout out to this episode which while not technically a Halloween episode was still a lot of fun.

Tim having a younger girlfriend who gets princess treatment from him, she very obviously in love with Tim, and nobody at the station believes he has a girlfriend, so one day she shows up and work and everyone gets to see and meet her and see just how much she has Tim wrapped around her finger <3
Sorry if it doesn't make sense
puppy love - tim bradford
{ masterlist }
đȘ: hopefully this lives up to what you were thinking!! i did my best to capture all the main elements that you wanted in the story <33
word count: 1039
âââââââââââââââââââ
Tim was notorious for being a hardass, his rough demeanor and strict ways of teaching made him seem like a total douchebag, for lack of a better word.
However, for you, he was a ball of sunshine, just don't let anyone else know that.Â
Tim was awoken to the deafening sound of his alarm clock, he looked over at the red numbers, the clock reading â6:00amâ, he sighed and reached a hand over to turn the blaring sound off. He turned over at the movement of your sleeping body, his hand now brushing through your hair with a small smile on his lips, waking up wasn't so bad when he got to see your face every morning.
You woke up gently at the new warmth that was on your head, âdo you have to leave today?â you whispered with annoyance, one eye looking at him while the other stayed shut hoping to retain some sleep âunfortunately i do, baby, but i'll be home in time for our dateâ he responds, leaning over and kissing your forehead.Â
He gets out of bed and heads for the closet putting on his uniform, once heâs done getting ready he reaches for his duty belt and gun that he keeps in his nightstand. Finally he leans over to give you one last kiss goodbye, âi love you, iâll text you on breakâ you felt his lips move, âi love you too, be safe and come home to meâ you respond as he walks out of the room gently shutting the door.
You shortly go back to sleep to get extra shuteye before having to go to your 9:00 am psychology class.
===
Tim made it to work early, going into the locker room and putting his duffle bag full of extra clothes and little snacks that you had snuck in there âjust in caseâ, once he left the locker room he made his way to the debriefing room. âHey Tim, you still owe me the 13 bucks for that burrito i bought you last weekâ Angela points out, while walking in behind him âah rightâ he groans pulling out his wallet simply forgetting the little photo he kept of you in there.
The photo fell on the ground as Tim pulled out the cash, Angela reached down holding the picture âwho is that?â she wonders while looking at the piece of paper âmy girlfriendâ he responds while holding out the $13, âyou? You have a girlfriend?â she jokes âyeah, and i'm a millionaireâ she finished sarcastically and walked away to sit down in her seat.
Tim just silently rolled his eyes and put your photo back in the safety of his wallet, after Grey gave his briefing, Angela and Nyla both started talking about Timâs âgirlfriendâ the others overheard and suddenly everyone knew about Timâs private life.Â
âTim has a girlfriend?â Lucy questioned, while walking over the group and grinning. âThatâs what he claims, when he was paying me back a photo slipped out of his wallet and when i asked who it was he said it was his girlfriend, but i don't know who would torture themselves like thatâ she explained, Nolan had his eyebrows raised âcome on guys, Tim canât be that badâ Nolan continued âhe probably just doesn't like usâ he smiled making the others laugh.Â
âOkay! Are you guys ready to stop being a bunch of highschoolers and gossiping about my love life so we can, I don't know, do our job?â Tim dead panned, they all quietly snickered, and some started getting ready to head out.
Tim heard the faint call of his name, and fast feet, âTim! you forgot your lunch!â you spoke quickly while softly jogging towards him. âThatâs what i forgot, thank you babyâ Tim mentally smacked himself for forgetting the meal you had prepared for him the night before. You smiled at him, rushing as you had to get back to the campus as you had a final in 45 minutes.
Everyone looked slightly gobsmacked, realizing that Tim was in fact not lying about having a girlfriend, Angela came up to the love sick couple, âso youâre the pretty lady Tim keeps in his walletâ she spoke with playfulness, âyou must be Angela! Tim talks about you all the time, im (Y/N)â you introduced yourself with a big smile. Tim smiled at you with all the love in the world, looking at you while you introduced yourself to his friends and colleagues.Â
âAs much as i would absolutely love talking to you guys more, i have a really important test i have to go takeâ you explained with haste, everyone was extremely understanding and wished you good lucks, âOne last thing, Tim, before you come home will you please pick up milk from the store? I used it all this morningâ everyone looked at Tim awaiting his response âYes maâamâ he complied, you kissed his cheek and gave everyone a last goodbye before leaving.
âMan she has you utterly whippedâ Aaron spoke, while shaking his head, âyeah, you are so done for sirâ Celina giggled. Tim looked at both of them with a stern face immediately making them shut up and get back to doing whatever they were doing.Â
âI'm glad you found someone Tim, you deserve a good personâ Lucy quietly mentioned, Tim gave a silent nod of acknowledgement letting Lucy know that what she said meant a lot to him as she left and continued on with her duties.
Tim carried on with his day, doing paperwork, and counting the minutes until he came home to you.
Once he got off of work, he made sure he picked up milk and even got you you're favorite snack, as soon as he got home you two made dinner together and sat at the kitchen table, you told him how youâre very sure you passed your final with flying colors, and he told you about the mountains of paperwork that made him wish he was in bed watching a stupid reality show with you instead.Â
When it was time for bed you and Tim continued to talk about random thoughts, and your futures together before you both drifted into a peaceful sleep.

I love you all immensely. Take care. đ
The tunnel lights up ahead of you, revealing the cubic rock walls as you plant torches in your stead. The eerie soundtrack of night time and the ominous groan of zombies looming somewhere in the cave have you uptight. Silently, you press on, digging and mining mindlessly, fingers mashing the buttons on your controller.Â
âHey, where are you?â Jacobâs voice startles you.Â
You nearly forgot youâre playing co-op. You sniff and shake your head, cursing aloud as your shock has you succumbing to the arrow of a sneaky skeleton. You sigh as your possessions scatter and you spawn back in your bed.Â
âBack home,â you say glumly, âjust ate it.âÂ
âAh, damn,â his deep voice rolls in your noise-cancelling headset, âsorry, hope that wasnât me.âÂ
âNo, I wasnât paying attention,â you hum and sigh. Â
âAh,â he accepts and lets silence linger before he clicks his tongue, âwhatâs going on? Everything alright?âÂ
âYeah, yeah,â you put the controller down, your avatar sitting on the geometric bed, âI just...â you stretch your neck and massage your scalp around the thick band of the headset, âgot a lot on my mind.âÂ
âRight. I thought you were all done exams,â he says.Â
âI am, but... packing. Going home. I called my old boss and turns out Iâm not gonna have a job this summer. Gotta start over,â you yawn and rub your eyes, âwhat about you? Final exam tomorrow?âÂ
âUh... yeah,â he hesitates as if he forgot. You do wonder why he isnât cramming right now. You could never play minecraft all night the day before a final. âEasy stuff. Iâm not worried.âÂ
You scoff. You wish you could say the same. All youâve done is worry those last two weeks. Exams, getting home, getting a job. Your grandmother wonât very happy to find out youâll be slumming it for a while. At least you tucked away some money through the semester.Â
âHey, if you need a few bucks...â Jacob offers.Â
âWhat? Are you crazy? No way,â you exclaim, âreally, no, I couldnât. Iâll be fine. I just... I hate looking for jobs. You know how it is. Friggin awkward.âÂ
âItâs not a big deal. My dad sent me my birthday money so...âÂ
âUh uh,â you deny him again, âthatâs way too much. I couldnât-- we havenât even met.âÂ
âMm, yeah, about that,â he exhales into his microphone, âI, uh, got an extra ticket to this Con. I figured out thatâs it like the midway point between us so...âÂ
âA con? Oh, wow--âÂ
âYeah, but I get that it would be expensive so maybe I could pay for your trip?âÂ
âJacob,â you wiggle the controller restlessly, âI can't accept that. Itâs so nice but... itâs a lot.âÂ
âI wouldnât offer it was too much,â his voice is soft, meek, and defeated. You feel bad but you would feel worse taking advantage of his kindness. âWeâve been talking all year. I just figured it would be a good chance to meet up. It would be in public and something we both like so...âÂ
You scratch your neck as it speckles with heat. You donât know whatâs more insulting; yes or no.Â
âCan I think about it?â You ask thinly.Â
The line is quiet. You look at the screen and it goes dim from your idling. You hit the analog stick and fix your headphones.Â
âJacob?â You murmur.Â
âSure, think about it,â he says, his voice raspy and rocky. Itâs strange. Youâve seen him in pictures and his voice doesnât really match his appearance. He sounds a lot older than he looks. âItâs next month so lots of time.âÂ
âIâm sorry,â you cringe. âI just wouldnât want to waste your money.âÂ
âTrust me, it wouldnât be a waste,â he insists, âthis last year has sucked. So much. You got me through it all.â His microphone scuffs, âstudying, exams, all that stuff. Itâs tough making new friends. Seems like everyone here knows each other from high school.âÂ
âYeah, totally,â you agree. Â
Youâre not exactly the most popular person. You have people you know in each class but not too many friends you hang out with outside the lecture hall or library. So far, not too many people want to spend hours mining digital gold or racing cartoon characters around a rainbow track.Â
âWell, you should probably get some sleep,â you yawn, âyou got your big exam and... I gotta keep packing. Gotta catch the greyhound tomorrow night.âÂ
âSure, uh, yeah, right,â his disappointment is potent, âhey, will you text me when you get home? Just so I know you made it.â He snorts, âgod, I sound like my dad right now.âÂ
âOh, of course,â you chirp back, âIâll try to remember. Might be late.âÂ
âThatâs fine. Just as long as you let me know.âÂ
âDonât worry about me,â you assure him, ânot âtil I have to face my grandma. Ha.âÂ
âYeah, good luck with that,â he says, âwell... er...âÂ
âGood night,â you finish for him, âlet me know how the exam goes too.âÂ
âWill do,â his timbre gets even lower, ânight.âÂ
You sign off and shut down the console. Another yawn flows through you and waters in your eyes. You should sleep, you got a long day waiting for you, but you know it wonât be easy. Not with so much on your mind, not least of all, Jacobâs invitation.Â
đź
You text Jacob as you get on the bus, to make sure he doesnât worry. Itâs so sweet that he does, even some of your girlfriends donât bother that much. Not that you mind the âhey, bitchâ Janet sends you every now and again to make sure youâre still alive.Â
You fall asleep on the bus. Youâve never been one to sleep while travelling but youâre exhausted from a night of anxious tossing and turning. After spending all day packing up the last of your things and scouring your dorm room, youâre beat to hell.Â
Itâs midnight as you get to your grandmotherâs house. Sheâs up reading another Stephen King classic in her rocking chair. Sheâs always been a night owl and a voracious book hound. She grumbles at you but doesnât bother to ask how your trip was.Â
âHey, grandma,â you hike up your bag and smile. Â
She growls again, eyes not leaving the page. You should know better by now not to interrupt her. You shoulder on and head down to the spare room where you spent most of your high-school career. You shut the door gently as the old hardwood floors creak with your weight and you drop your bag on the squeaky bed.Â
You fish out your phone and plug it in as the battery flashes red with only two percent left. You leave it on the night table and stretch out, not bothering to change out of your hoodie and jeans. Itâs not long before you descend back into the same dreams that marked your journey home.Â
You wake up to buzzing. Your phone shakes the nightstand, rattling it against the bed frame. You groan and roll onto your side, reaching blindly for offending object. You hit the side button to dismiss the call. Â
You blink away the bleariness and focus on the screen. Along with the missed call are several text messages. You squint as you expand the notifications. Jacob! You forgot to message.Â
âHey, you home?âÂ
âChecking in. Must be busy getting settled in. Just let me know when youâre safe.âÂ
âNot meaning to be weird but everything okay?âÂ
âPlease answer me. Iâm worried.âÂ
You drag your thumb around the keyboard, letting it predict your words; âsorry! I was so tired. Home now and safe đ'Â
Three dots pop up then swoop away. You frown as the same thing happens several times before a response appears.Â
âWas really worried. Thanks for finally answering. Been up all night.âÂ
Youâre stunned by the terse response. Yeah, you forgot to answer but he doesnât need to worry that much. You frown and shift onto your side.Â
âSrry again. Tired. Talk in morning. Night.âÂ
You turn your phone on silent and plug it back into the cord. You do feel bad but youâre too exhausted to let it keep you up. Besides, you need your sleep. You have lots of job hunting to do in the morning. Not to mention, your grandmother to face.Â
đź
You let Jacob cool down after your return home. Rather, he doesnât text and youâre too distracted to do the same. As much as youâd like to sit around and game, your grandmother was as disappointed as you expected with your employment status, even when you gave her the money you had left in your emergency fund.Â
After a week, you finally get a bite. Itâs nothing special. Thereâs a seasonal ice cream shop in a booth shaped like a vanilla cone that needs a cashier on weeknights. Itâs less than full time hours but itâs better than nothing. It will be strange working with high school juniors but you canât afford to be picky.Â
âGame tonight?â The text interrupts your first shift. You donât have a chance to answer as a family approaches the window to order.Â
You get them the soft serve and take their payment, bidding them a good evening with their vanilla points already drooping in the summer heat. You glance around at the mostly empty picnic tables. Soccer practice will end soon and youâll be overloaded with eight-year-olds.Â
âSrry. New job. 1st shift. Maybe tmrw.âÂ
âNew job? Congrats. Why didnât you tell me?âÂ
You sigh. Â
âTime got ahead of me.âÂ
âSame. Catch up tomorrow then. Minecraft?âÂ
âSure. Tmrw.âÂ
You slip your phone away. A mother and daughter approach and ask for a sundae and a banana split. As much as you love ice cream, working with it hasnât tested your cravings very much. In fact, you might be falling out of love with it. The smell of vanilla and overly sweetened strawberries is kind of gross when itâs all you breathe.Â
As you watch the happy customers walk away, you smile. Maybe it will be good to get some mining done. It will take your mind off of everything else. Hell, it might even make you feel like youâre doing something useful.Â
đź
âShit, oh, sorry,â Jacob corrects himself. You always think it's kind of funny how he doesnât like to swear. âMy diamond armor.âÂ
âOh no,â you utter, âwhere are you? Iâll grab your stuff.âÂ
He gives his coordinates and you turn around, leaping over the green blocks to make your way there. Despite your reticence at the beginning, youâre feeling better about the session. He wasnât as tense as he seemed in his texts.Â
âSo, uh, did you think about the con?â Jacob asks.Â
âThe con? I almost forgot. When is it?âÂ
He gives the dates and you hum. Your chest flutters at the thought still. Youâre not stupid. Meeting people IRL is not like online, no matter how many hours youâve mined together. As much as you enjoy chatting with Jacob, you donât know about meeting up.Â
âI get it if you canât get the time off but my offer still stands to cover the trip. If you wanna stay the night, Iâll even get an airBnB.âÂ
âOh, wow, thatâs a lot. Iâm working now. I could put in,â you offer. Â
âIs that a yes?â He asks hopefully.Â
âI donât know... I mean, Iâll have to look into it,â you say evasively. âTalk to my boss and grandma and all that.âÂ
âRight, right,â he tries to sound unbothered, âmakes sense. Of course, no pressure. How about I send you the ticket either way? Havenât got anyone else to bite.âÂ
âOh, well, hold off, I wouldnât want to take it and not use it,â you collect his weapons and armor from the ground in the game.Â
Itâs silent as you focus on getting every little thing.Â
âSorry, did I freak you out?â He asks, âIâm really not trying to pressure you, just got excited thinking about it.âÂ
âI know, Jacob, itâs not that, itâs just... a lot.âÂ
âTotally get it,â he intones, âlet me know whenever you got an answer. Uh, where are you? Iâm tryna find you.âÂ
âJust stay there, I'll come back to the house,â you assure him, happy to focus on the game instead.Â
Still, you canât entirely lose yourself in it. Youâre sure heâs a nice guy. From pictures, heâs less than scary, and heâs never been anything but friendly. Itâs not like the other dudes you meet online who jump to asking about your bra size and all that. It just isnât smart.Â
Well, maybe if you donât show up alone. You know what con heâs talking about and Kara from Econ lives near there. You could probably convince her to meet up. Hm, that might work.Â
Just like you told him, youâll have to think about it.Â

Hi!
Happy 8x06 day :D
I recently got into 9-1-1 (read: binged all seven seasons and five episodes in two weeks) and I can honestly say no other fandom drew me in this quickly - that being said I love the color theories surrounding our boys, however I am still a bit unclear on what the significance of Eddie's yellow / Buck's blue is and how do they play into eachother?
Hi!! Welcome to the madness. I will link my main posts about the blue and yellow but a lot happened this season already, so I'll do an overview here too (x x x x x)
Basically, Buck's coming out arc is blue and yellow coded and Buck is dressed in shades of blue through the whole thing.
The culmination of Buck's coming out arc is the coming out scene in 705 because it is the only moment Buck chooses to come out. So this is Buck's blue.
While Buck was doing all that, Eddie was in the sun, or surrounded by gold/yellow.
So in the coming out scene, we have Buck settled into his blue and Eddie in front of his yellow.
But the blue and yellow coding of Buck and Eddie actually started in 201. Down to the way that "Practice rounds have blue caps. Gold caps are live." with the blue and yellow lights on the ambulance ceiling. If you pay attention while watching they have a lot of scenes with blue and yellow elements.
Some more blue and yellow coding.
But the main thing here is the will reveal.
For all intents and purposes, this is an aborted love confession, and Buck is in yellow, Eddie is in blue. But more importantly, Buck is in the yellow that we have behind Eddie for the coming-out scene.
And interestingly enough, the blue of the wall, is the blue of Buck's hoodie in the hospital when he comes out to everyone. So they are switched.
Also, during the 601 dinner, when they establish the couch thing, they are blue and yellow, like, Buck's grey is blue in the same way Eddie's beige is yellow.
So the idea is that Eddie will be sandy yellow beige the same way Buck was navy blue while figuring himself out. One example of that is the sandy shirt Eddie is wearing while talking to Bobby on 804. Also the general blue and yellow coding of Eddie's arc that episode.
Something else that happened is that Eddie was wearing Buck's blue at the hospital in 805.
Which leads us to today's clip. I color-corrected the clip because @stagefoureddiediaz thought that it might be the same shirt, which would put Eddie firmly in the yellow category while talking to the priest, and tie things to that conversation in 601.
This puts more into the theory that Eddie find his way to his shade of yellow the same way Buck found his shade of blue. I think since Buck worked through darker shades of blue to find his color, Eddie will do the opposite and will be lighter shades of yellow, working up to something in this real of yellow.
And that the buddie canon will be with Buck in his blue and Eddie finally in his yellow. So I'm on high alert for them in blue and anything that could be categorized as yellow.
And this got longer than I planned oajksoaksoaks if you read this I love you đ«¶
I will taglist this one (interact with this post if you wanna get tagged)

I am so happy to see a canonical badass also be canonically queer. I can't tell you how many amazing men I know who were closeted bi because it wasn't an option for them to be open.
I'm also raising an eyebrow at the writers since we now know that without Fox's chokehold on them, and KR writing nonsense, they can spin a good story, surprise us, and keep us entertained.
I want to see Buck discover who he is outside of the 118, the Diazes best friend, and the man who is always left behind. I want to see Buck spoiled and taken care of for once. Instead of him planning and executing the grand gestures, it's time for someone to do it for him.
I stand by what I said in a post weeks ago. Eddie Diaz was coded to appeal to the more conservative of the population and I have a theory on who pushed that and why. It is obvious who that character was supposed to click with. I believe he was written in a way to prevent Buddie and if you look closely, whoever "developed" him did so in a way that baited Buddie but kept it subtle for those who would be offended if that happened.
911 goes to a more open-minded network and we get characters who are much more developed in just four episodes? That wouldn't be possible if the elements weren't already there but lying dormant. I wonder why those character traits weren't tapped at Fox. Hmm?
If fans don't see the potential for not just season 7, but season 8 and beyond, to yield amazing character development and story arcs, you are not paying attention. There are so many areas that have yet to be explored and so many loose ends from Fox and KR. Just cleaning up the mess from the prior powers could give the show a good two to three seasons.
In my heart of hearts, Buddie is endgame. Even in this episode, Buck gushes about Eddie. He gets that look in his eye and sings his praises just before kissing Tommy, who is literally a physical specimen reminiscent of Buck but a copy of Eddie in every other way.
Do I think Buck and Tommy will go anywhere? I do. Just like Buck and Taylor, I think it could be serious. I could also see Tommy figuring out Buck is into him because of how much like Eddie he is.
But, I am willing to celebrate the victory of seeing someone figure things out, explore life, and love it.
I told you all in an earlier post, it isn't uncommon to have a sexuality epiphany, I hate calling it a crisis, later in life. Ask me how I know.
Also, major props to Oliver Stark and Lou Ferrigno, Jr. It's easier now, but it's not easy and they are going to catch hate from the bigots.

Could you do the reaction of yanderes hashiras when they see the male reader vomiting in disgust/rejection after the hashiras kissed him?
Rejecting The Hashiraâs Kiss | Yandere Kimetsu no Yaiba X Male Reader
Whether it was a misread moment or just someone having the audacity to put their lips against yours; they are met with a solid rejection. Even if you refuse them they have no plans to stop their pursuit. All this is just a minor obstacleâŠyepâŠjust..a little pothole in the road of your love:
Rengoku Kyojuro
He doesnât askÂ
He just goes right inÂ
Catching you off guard as he firmly kisses your unmoving lips
âBLEGH! Ew whatâs your problem?! Kyojuro!?â
âI DID IT FOR GOOD FORTUNE!â
âGood Fortune my foot! Donât go kissing people who donât want to be kissed!â
Heâs not discouraged at allÂ
in fact, this only spurs him to try harder to gain your affection
Or hopefully shooing of any one else whoâs interested
He doesnât bother licking his lips but I certainly see him putting his lips up to different things toâŠcompare
âTHIS MELON IS COLD NOT AT ALL LIKE (Y/N)âS LIPS. WHICH ARE WARM! AND SOFT! AND IRRESISTABLE!â
âSir, are you going to pay for the fruit or not?â

And she just canât help herselfÂ
You were just looking so cute with your broken arms
So she just went for itÂ
âEw um can you not.â
She stares blankly at youÂ
Before doing it again
âWhat are you going to do? Stop me?â
Sheâs going to spend the rest of your stay showing you how little you can do in comparison to her
And how powerless you are to defy her medicinal âailmentsâ
Leaving you bedridden for however long she pleases
Seating herself on your waist too weak to buck her off
âDonât think for a moment you can stop me, you are mine and Iâll have what I want of you when I want it.âÂ
Uzui Tengen
Flamboyant as ever heâs not one to hide his emotions
Or what he wishes to doÂ
So when he goes for the kiss he kisses deep
Completely disregarding the worldâs take on social customs
âIâll be flamboyantly missing you on my mission, farewell my gem.â
The kiss is deep and while you may pull away heâs keeping a firm hold on your waist
Letting his fingers graze against your butt
When you pull away to spit Tengen makes a note of it
And will dive back into capturing your lips
âDonât let any of me my sparkling saliva out of your mouth, otherwise Iâll have to punish you~!â
Sanemi Shinazugawa
It takes a lot to hype himself up to do this
Despite being as prickly as he isÂ
he blushes and gets week in the knees around you
So when he moves fast to kiss you heâs embarrassed when your lips curl in disgust
âEwwwâŠthat was so gross.â
Heâs so hurtÂ
But that sadness morphs to angerÂ
And when demons donât cut itÂ
Heâs fighting youÂ
âWHEN SOMEONE GIVES YOU A KISS, YOU KISS THEM BACK!â
Mitsuri Kanroji
Love is her elementÂ
So of course, sheâs going to kiss you as soon as she feels like the moodâs been set
When you reject her, she is reminded of all the times such a thing has happened before
âOhâŠyou didnât like thatâŠhuh?â
Sheâs hurt so so hurt
But her tears are so pretty
So perfect youâll cave
That is if her guard snake doesnât come for you first
âY-youâre s-sorry..hm..i-iâll definitely feel better if you give me a kiss thoughâŠplease?â
Obanai IguroÂ
Heâs hesitant to even come near youÂ
Often preferring to watch you from afar
He usually thinks heâs lesser than you
A monster in every right that is protecting his beauty in the shadows
So heâll wait until your sleeping or so high on medicine that you canât recognize him
âY-yuck..â
â...I am sorry.â
So crestfallen he probably wonât talk to you out of embarrassment despite youâre actual cluelessness
âKabumaru love is cruel..isnât it?â
Giyuu Tomioka
Nobody likes him anyway
And when heâs shoulders deep in his obsession for you he stops caring
He no longer lets being likable by anyone stop him from what he wants
â-ick! Eww, I canât believe youââ
âI can hardly resist you (Y/n), even if you hate me.â
Nothingâs off the tableÂ
But he pretty much is willing to do whatever it takes
Heâs witnessed so many die at the hands of demons
He doesnât care how you feelÂ
That will not be your fate
âIt doesnât matter what you think of me. Iâm not letting you free.â
Gyomei Himejima
He canât see your beauty which he cries about often
But thanks to his lack of sight you let him feel your face
âIf only for my mindâs eye, may I?â
âYeah Gyomei no problem.â
Itâs his dirty little pleasure
Curious about your figureÂ
He holds you steady holding your shoulders
And he accidentally letâs his lips brush against your own
He gets the message when you pull away
He knows itâs probably out of disgust, but he can delude himself into thinking it was out of embarrassment
And that letâs him smile in his lonesome
âMy apologies was that your lips?â
Muichiro Tokito
He thinks being the young kid he is, you wonât mind
When he jumps up to give you a kissÂ
And when you recoil asking him what that was about
Heâll wistfully sigh because you didnât react the way he wantedyou to
âDonât friends kiss each other before they leave.â
He feigns ignorance as he mulls upon your rejection
He figures heâs got time to convince you heâs worthy of your kisses
And then he forgetsÂ
Aiming for a kiss again with some other excuse to pursue his little crush on you
âI think of you like a brotherâŠdonât family kiss each other?â

Buddie 612 meta
I donât think weâve had this much fodder with such few scenes in a long time, and I am LIVING!
Okay, so first of all I have to mention the parallel between 217, when the team was coming in, one by one, to see the suspended Bobby, and this ep, with everyone dropping by one at a time to be there for the recovering Buck. The similarity is of course in the found family connection. In both cases we see the importance of the absent member of the team through these visits. The difference is in the way the team came to Bobby because they need him to be there for them as their captain and friend even when heâs not on the job. But in Buckâs case, they donât need anything. Theyâre coming by because they want to be there for him when he needs his team members and friends. Buckâs parents needed a reason to love him. Buckâs found family in this ep is loving him anyway. ~~
Iâm gonna scream about the couch in a second, but I have to admit that while I was watching the ep, the moment that REALLY had my eyes shoot wide open and my breaths go into hyperventilation is when Maddie reads the note saying Buck has gone out. Because as soon as it was made clear Buck had chosen to escape his apartment and all of his visitors, I knew where he was headed. First off, the very fact that everyone else came to him, while Eddie was the one person Buck chose to go to already had me biting my fists. Once more, like in so many other cases (for example, when the lightning hit and Eddie was filmed differently to everyone else in the 118, or the way he was the only absent person in Buckâs dream and the only one Buck remembered without needing a physical object to jog his memory), Eddie is singled out as having a unique space in Buckâs life that no one else occupies. And of course there is this domestic quality and element of choosing each other as we see them repeatedly opening the door for and to get to the other one. ~~
But just think of the meaning! This man puppy, who only ever wanted to be loved and whoâs being showered with attention and care, is absolutely restless because heâs having a hard time and feels like he has to pretend with the people he loves the most, and therefore heâs failing to fall asleep on his own couch. He seeks comfort in a connection thatâs even deeper than the people who have been to see him, where he can really be himself without pretense. And thatâs whatâs insane, because he was visited among others by Maddie and Hen, his loving blood and adoptive big sisters. NO ONE can claim that his r/s with them is anything other than deep, and yet when he needed something more, when he needed an escape, when he needed a place where he could simply rest and be himself, he went to Eddieâs. This isnât just Buck standing in Eddieâs kitchen declaring, âIâm not really a guestâ in 311. This is him being more of a guest in his own apartment than in Eddieâs house. This is him being home and safe and able to JUST BE in Eddieâs space.
This is Buck beginning his healing by sleeping on the SAME couch where Eddie did in 514, connecting their healing in a parallel that is going to make me tear my own hair out. Which actually connects us back to 407, when Buddie talk about Buckâs need for his loft to be his safe space. Now itâs canon that this desired safe space is Eddieâs home, and I will chew through every piece of glass out there before I calm down from this. Once again, there are opposite sex canon couples on TV who never get this level of soulmate development! ~~
Oh, I also found it very interesting that Buck tells Maddie about his list he goes through every time he wakes up, to make sure heâs not in the coma world. We didnât see him going through those steps when he woke up on Eddieâs couch. Remember how I said Eddie had to be absent in the dream world or Buck might not have made it out of there? Well, this ep adds to that. By virtue of being the only one whoâs fully absent, it means Eddie is the one person whose very presence is a cue for Buck that heâs in the real world and safe, the only one who, by simply being there, negates the need for a list. I AM MELTING. (my gif, please excuse the awfulness) ~~
Speaking of soulmates bonding, I have to point out the opposite sex soulmates we do have in this very ep. Bobby confesses that Athena is it for him because she makes him feel like heâs standing on solid ground, she helps him be himself by finding again a piece of him.
We also see her becoming a part of his healing process when he allows her to come to his AA meeting. This is exactly what we see Buddie going through in 612! Eddie is Buckâs solid ground, the person he can count on and who can provide him with rest (thatâs what solid ground represents), who allows him to simply be himself, and Eddie is also a part of the healing process that Buck allows him into by seeking out Eddie, and by opening up to him when Eddie asks him to, after finally getting some rest on the couch... ~~
That brings me to the couch because that in itself is just... Wow, this show really hates my nails and wants me to chew on them fully, I see how it is. Letâs not forget for how long the couch metaphor has been with us! Once Taylor and Buck discussed their couches situation when she was moving in with him in 513, and it was clear there was an incompatibility issue because she was bringing in a couch while he already had one (meaning they had already failed to communicate about this pretty basic point), it was clear theyâd have to choose only one and dispose of the other. Very tellingly Taylor doesnât really leave room for choice, so Buck (who only asked her to move in out of guilt) gave up his for hers. Thatâs the start of the couch being a metaphor for his romantic relationships, and I canât believe it started a whole season before this ep! And then when Taylor moved out in 518, he was left with none? But that wasnât unhinged enough for our show, so they brought it into an even greater focus with the lasagna scene in 601, when it was made even clearer that the âright couchâ for Buck is about his romantic partner, that heâs aware of that significance, and that he admitted to it IN EDDIEâS PRESENCE. I canât believe Buck fell asleep like that on Eddieâs couch, when they BOTH KNOW what the couch means. This is the most naked two men have ever been with each other on a TV show without taking their clothes off! Then Buckâs parents get him a couch he doesnât want, one thatâs all wrong for him, one he didnât get to CHOOSE, so unsurprisingly he canât sleep on it. That would have been a lot already, but then this ep turns around and SLAMS US IN THE FACE with Eddieâs couch being the right one for Buck to fall asleep on and to do so effortlessly! Two seconds on it, and Buck was out. Thatâs okay, 911, I just have to work a double shift while Iâm sick today, I didnât need to also have my sanity. You absolutely can have everything left of it. (my gif, please excuse it) ~~
I know itâll sound dumb, but I was happy crying over the beers in Eddieâs fridge and the zoomed in shot we got of them. Look, itâs their thing, right? Weâve seen the two of them sipping on beers together in the iconic 309 kitchen scene (NGL, the oral sex scene in my Blue Against Blue fic was inspired by this), and itâs been a repeated theme, so when I saw Eddie had no less than 6 beers easily accessible in the top shelf of his fridge, chilling away, it screamed âThis is my Buck stashâ to me.
I will forever be a mess that Eddie Diaz, tough war veteran, actually has a supply of beers ready in his fridge for whenever soft man puppy Evan Buckley drops by unannounced. Can you imagine when Eddie goes grocery shopping and he probably smiles softly to himself when he buys his Buck beers? These two are so domestic and in love and equally soft about each other, itâs gross. And by gross I mean I love it, please gimme more. ~~
Oh, but the domesticity just keeps leveling up in this ep! Because then Buck wakes up and makes his way to the kitchen, where he just⊠lets Eddie take care of him by serving water. And itâs so tender and husbandy, and affectionate, and connects so perfectly to Eddie asking Buck to share with him. Because Buck wouldnât let others fuss over him, but he lets his hubby take care of him. And he doesnât tell others, even ones who are significant people in his life, where heâs really at, but he will share everything with Eddie. Not to mention that it doesnât take much to get him to open up. All Eddie has to do is ask, and despite Buckâs initial announcement not to, he just goes right ahead and spills. I am inhaling and exhaling into the palms of my hands.
Of course, tucked in there is also Buck asking Eddie about the shooting. We all remember Buddie holding eye contact through that and Eddie reaching out to him, right? Or everything that transpired between them in the ambulance, all of it so romantically coded... This scene tells us that Eddie doesnât remember those bits. I find it interesting to consider that maybe Eddie really doesnât. That maybe the reason he hasnât figured out yet how he feels for Buck is because he blanked out on the way he turned to Buck during the most intense moments of his life, and the ones he thought were his last. ~~
I mentioned during the hiatus in replies to asks I got that I suspected just like the distance between Buddie in 5a served to bring them closer together in 5b as Buck helped Eddie with his healing, the same structure was being followed in s6, just in the reverse, where Eddie will eventually help Buck. You canât imagine how deep and meaningful I find it, that the show has actually structured these two seasons as counter paralleling each other, and showing Buddie as being a vital part of this mutual healing, so I tried to demonstrate that with this gifset. ~~
Last one! The cardiologist. Look, I already mentioned in my previous weekly meta that the heart theme started with Eddie, and then it was expanded to Buck. I find it insane that the show really hammered it home by having the same cardiologist be the doctor for both men, and that while sheâs at it, she hints to both that their issues are not purely physical. How long before the metaphor-loving Buck catches on? IDK, but every single choice about this ep feels incredibly deliberate, when so much is condensed into so few scenes.
(my weekly meta posts) (my Buddie gifs) (all of my content)
~~ I canât explain how much Iâm asking of the amazing @whosoldheroutâ for the gif requests, and the results are always so stunning, Iâm deeply grateful!
~~ My tag list will follow in the reblog, please let me know if you wanna be added/removed here. Thank you in advance for any reblog and like! Iâm sick and took three different medications to be semi-functional, so I really hope youâll like this. Please donât hesitate to let me know if you did! xoxox

dedication to you
hello !! long time no see to anyone reading this ~ i am back with a little somethin somethin i worked on this afternoon, inspired by some events that happened to me earlier ! a special thank you to @slushycoookie for telling me to write this <3 ily <3
warnings/tags: fluffy smut, cuddling, academic achievement, curvy reader, miguel being a munch, face sitting, miguelâs chest hair, fingering, praising, slight teasing, use of petnames that make me weak in the knees, two people in love love <3⊠k i think thatâs it!
18+ MINORS DO NOT INTERACT
âMmmph.. tell me again what your professor said,â Miguelâs breath came out heavy, his eyelids heavy as his eyes glanced back up at you, admiring the swell of your stomach. His head rested against your thigh, a bead of his saliva and your slick pooling from his mouth onto your warm skin. A loose curl stuck to his forehead, pleasure and thoughts of praise swirling through his mind like the bit of milk he took in his coffee before he was greeted by your news this morning.
âH-he said- Miguel, please!â You whined, bucking your hips down, eager to feel the warmth of his mouth on you again.
âHe said Miguel, please? He was talking about me, baby? He wants me to please him?â He teased, his middle finger tracing up and down your sensitive folds, spitting where his fingers were rubbing.
âYou⊠you asshole..â You paused to let out a soft moan, âHe told me.. my analysis was excellent-â You were cut off with Miguel leaning his head in again, his lips wrapping around your clit, giving it a soft suck. âA-and I should not have any trouble publishing it.. in this newspaper⊠journal thingy.. said it was insightful.. powerful..â You trailed off, hands tangling in his hair, tugging on his dark locks as carefully as you could. You clamped your thighs around his head, soft whines escaping you.
âYouâre so smart, my pretty girl..â He sighed as he pulled away gently, tracing his tongue against your clit, light and delicate. His tongue moved lower, flicking over the spot he knew you loved, his nose now pressed against you.
All he could smell and taste was you, and oh, how he loved it.
He pulled your hips down closer, his mouth working faster as his tongue prodding at your entrance. The feeling of the tip of his tongue slipping inside you caused you to squeal out, your back arching off of the now soaked pastel pink sheets.
âFuck, Miguel.. baby please, more..â You begged before he went back to focus on devouring you, his hands grasping onto the plushness of your thighs, only wet sounds filling the room, his hips slowly grinding against the bed.
He was in his element, he was proud of you and he was rewarding you. And, he was getting the best post-coffee treat of his life- your sweet pussy.
He suddenly had his hands on your hips, moving slighty before he flipped you over, guiding you to your knees.
Your face pressed into the pillow as he situated himself behind you again, pressing sloppy kisses against the globes of your ass, his lips smacking after each one.
âI am so proud of you, princess..â He panted, groaning softly as his heavy cock leaked onto the sheets, the tip dark and begging for release. But he was a gentleman, your pleasure always came first. âFeel how proud I am of you..â He whispered lovingly.
Miguel laid down on his back between your legs, admiring the sight above him. Every single time you both got intimate it always felt like the first time to him. He pressed a kiss to your inner thigh, âAnd your pussy is so fucking pretty.. pretty like my girl..â He hummed, connecting his mouth to you again. Your muffled moans caused him to pull your hips down on his face more, almost suffocating himself. He didnât care if he perished, he was already in Heaven.
He slipped a finger inside of you at one of your moans for him to give you more, slowly thrusting it, contrasting with the excited movements of his tongue. His lips wrapped around your clit again, giving firm and wet sucks, another finger slipping inside you, guiding you closer to the edge as he continued to move his mouth.
You bit down on to the pillow, feeling your knees dig more into the bed while your thighs shook. Your nails dug into the bed, peeling fabric of the sheets back as you fought to not scream in pleasure. You didnât want your neighbors to hear. Not now, anyways.
âCum, baby.. you are doing so well.. taking your reward so well.. come on, let me taste you..â Miguel muttered, unsure if you could even hear him as he kept trying to bury his face against you. Slick, sweat, and saliva dripped into his hair, his fingers now curling inside you gently. âCome on, baby.. atta girl..â He encouraged, removing his mouth from you but his face still nuzzling against your pussy. His thumb grazed against your clit and the combination of that and his panting breath sent you into pure bliss. With a shiver and a whiny moan, you felt a rush and Miguel quickly responding by slurping at you.
He pressed a few gentle kisses to your clit while you came down from your high, carefully lifting you and placing you on your back again once he was sure you would be ready to relax. âYou did so well for me, baby..â He praised, kissing up your stomach, cupping your breasts as he settled in bed beside you. âIâm so proud of you.. your new little publication is going to be so good for you..â He continued, pressing a kiss to your temple while he pulled you close, taking a deep breath. âYour professor knows what heâs talking about.. youâre a genius, princess.â
Both of you were too blissed out to move. Both of you wanted to cherish this moment of love.
âLetâs just.. snuggle for a minute and then Iâll make you a celebratory treat..â He sighed, letting his eyes close as he felt you nod weakly and cling onto him, your bodies sweaty and sticky from your activities.
âIâll dedicate my work to you.. say you are who motivates me and supports me to dig deeper for more productive.. mmm⊠work.â You hummed softly tracing over his chest hairs with your finger, your heart full of love for the man beside you. The man who you loved with all of your being and who motivated you enough for the both of you.
All that mattered in this moment, was you and him.

Buddie 7x01 Meta
Okay! Finally, I was able to watch the full episode uninterrupted and have had a couple days to gather my thoughts. Quite simply this episode was fucking fantastic. My meta does sometimes include some spec, so if that's not your thing feel free to ignore those parts. Those of you who follow me know I write long ass essays, so fair warning for a long meta under the cut. ((Also idk how to make gifs, so enjoy my shitty screenshots)).
First, I love to see Buck and Eddie back at it again in their natural element being partners on a scene.
This was very obviously a call back to season 2, even down to the positioning, having Buck watch Eddie be competent in defusing a bomb. Buck has complete faith in Eddie's abilities, it's the fighter pilot whom he distrusts. In the end, they narrowly avoid getting blown up, just like they did in 2x01. This one scene re-establishes the Buck/Eddie work dynamic and shows how they inherently trust each other on and off the field.
Next, we get a scene of Buck and Eddie getting dressed in the locker room. Notably, Buck is fully dressed and Eddie is without his shirt until halfway through the scene. Buck also keeps his eyes on Eddie's naked torso pretty much through the whole shirtless section. This is another blatant callback to season 2x01 when Buck's first introduction to Eddie is when he's shirtless. This draws attention specifically to Eddie's physical attractiveness and how that affects Buck. This scene is odd to have with Eddie half-naked if we're then gonna make comments later on about "sexual tension" with friends, no?
In the same scene we are reintroduced to Buck and Eddie's separate love lives. Eddie is just now learning that Buck and Natalia broke up, and gives an odd facial expression that looks far too much like vindication. We know from the graveyard scene in 6x17 that Eddie wasn't really a fan of Buck's relationship with Natalia (I don't think there's ever been a relationship Buck's had where Eddie has legitimately been happy about it, which is weird if they're just friends, right?) so to him, this was always coming down the road. He seems proud that Buck was able to end it this easily.
Meanwhile, Eddie's going on a "not-date" with Marisol to chaperone Christopher's date with Penny. It's telling to me that Eddie doesn't classify this as a date with Marisol, but Buck does. Buck considers being at home watching Christopher as a date, and yet he seemingly doesn't classify all the times he's been over at Eddie's hanging out with just him and Chris to be a date? To me, this shows the first big disconnect in Buck/Eddie's brains that the show will likely dismantle this season: what is classified as platonic and what is classified as romantic, and which gender is allowed to be in each category. We'll come back to this when we get to the next scene.
Eddie is very supportive of Buck breaking up with Natalia. He doesn't say it directly to his face, but it's implied that Buck really lost himself when he was with Natalia, hence Eddie's "Welcome back to the land of the living". While Buck did struggle with figuring out his life purpose at the end of season 6, he falsely prescribed that purpose to Natalia. Thankfully, this was rectified here. This also shows significant growth for Buck from his last relationship with Taylor Kelly. Buck was able to identify issues in his relationship quicker and was able to cut the relationship short when he realized it was no longer healthy to maintain for him. I am extremely proud of Buck in this moment, as is Eddie, which is the first of two big moments in this episode where Buck and Eddie really showcase their pride in the other's personal growth. "You were missed" is such a simple yet perfect line for Eddie to give to Buck. To show Buck that Eddie has always seen him, and will always see him, even through personal lows, and will still remain by his side when they come out the other side. I really love this showcase of unconditional love here.
The next time we see Buck and Eddie, the chaperone date has already passed. Eddie and Marisol are seen watching Chris and Penny from behind the wall, but it's highkey awkward to watch and the focus of this scene is really not Eddie/Marisol but rather Chris and Penny and Eddie relaying this info to Buck. I first want to point out that we don't actually get to see Eddie/Marisol's first date, we don't see any subsequential dates, and the first time we DO see her, in an episode meant to be establishing couples, she's so blink-and-you'll-miss-it that I had to try 3 times to get this screenshot because it went by so fast. It's never a good sign when we don't actually get to see the beginnings of a non-established relationship.
Additionally, Eddie/Marisol's relationship is framed WITHIN Eddie recounting the night to BUCK. The important Eddie relationship we're supposed to be paying attention to in this scene is not Eddie/Marisol but Eddie and Buck's. It's not important for us to see Eddie and Marisol hanging out, but it IS important for us to see Eddie TELLING Buck about the night. That isn't insignificant. This means the show is clearly placing far more importance on Eddie/Buck than on Marisol, and for a pointed reason to be revealed hopefully later this season.
This is the only line that Marisol has in the entire episode. This being the one line she has is interesting because it's a callback to Eddie's arc last season ie. "Eddie has no game with women". Christopher makes a pointed comment about it in 6x18. And of course, it's a callback to Performance Anxiety 6x14 where Eddie was being pressured about dating women and 6x17 Love Is In The Air where he once again pressures himself into dating women until he finally settles on Marisol. It's an interesting call back to have, considering this scene could have been considered Eddie successfully dating a woman. And of course this ties into later in this episode where we get the "turning women off" comment, which I'll talk more about later.
Eddie goes on to tell Buck that he didn't really see any difference between Christopher hanging out with his male friends vs hanging out with his female friends. This is drawing attention to two things. The first is a call-back to Buck and Eddie's previous scene where we saw that Buck and Eddie have two different ideas of what constitutes "a date" when it's with a man versus a woman. Buck thinks that an at-home date with Marisol to watch Chris counts as a date, Eddie doesn't. Yet Buck doesn't consider his own at-home "hang-outs" with Eddie and Chris to be a date despite them being far more frequent and more meaningful than what we just saw with Marisol. Eddie also doesn't see it that way. This line is an indicator that both Buck and Eddie have blinders on currently when it comes to their interactions with each other, interactions which very much COULD be considered a date (including the later mentioned "underlying sexual tension") if they had done the same thing with a woman. They're just unable to recognize the truth of it at the moment, and this is clearly demonstrated when Eddie can't tell the difference between Chris having his date with his male friends vs. female. My prediction is that this will become more defined for Eddie by the end of the season or leading into next season.
But it's very interesting that this idea of not being able to recognize the possibility of romance except for the heteronormative options is coming into play now because there's really only one gay way to subvert that.
Which is then doubled down by Buck in the very next scene.
This is blatantly not a true statement. Buck is not only assuming Chris's sexuality, but he's assuming the same would be the case in general, which is not true. Buck knows many queer people, but at the same time, every queer person he knows canonically falls more into the gay-lesbian binary, and not really anywhere in the middle (ie. bi/pan people). It's an oddly heteronormative statement coming from Buck, who is known to be very open-minded and also researches a shit ton? So why are we being shown that Buck has this sort of narrow-mindedness specifically when it comes to the possibility of people being bisexual?
(Spec) Firstly, I think this is to set up for a bisexual Buck arc. It's showing that Buck actually 1.) hasn't ever been with a man before so this is not just a casual bi reveal and 2.) that he's never actually considered it a possibility to have sexual tension with a man before. This is what we in writing call "the character's fundamental misbelief" and it is brought in specifically to be challenged, and I'm near-positive it will be at some point in the season.
Secondly, On the surface, this statement is telling the audience that obviously Christopher would only have tension with his female friends, right? (sarcasm). But what's interesting is that this statement is purposefully gender-neutral. It leaves the real meaning up to the audience to decide. Why? Because this part of the conversation is not really about Christopher. On the surface, yes, but beneath that, this line and the line before it are about Eddie and Buck's relationship with each other. Buck's not out here talking about Christopher having sexual tension with people, and even Eddie recognizes that it's weird to talk about in relation to their child. He's still in the nest for christ's sake! These lines are in relation to Buck and Eddie's friendship and how both of them are blind to the fact that it very much IS possible to have sexual tension with your female AND male friends.
And this is where the gender-neutrality of that phrase gets extra interesting. Because as we've seen before, Buck and (more prominently) Eddie often lack chemistry with their female love interests. It's up for debate, but the general consensus was that most people did not feel any chemistry between Buck/Natalia, and Eddie/Ana or Eddie/Marisol. What's fascinating is that Buck has had chemistry with some of his female love interests, but Eddie hasn't had any since Shannon (and this is not an endorsement of Eddie/Shannon's romantic relationship. I'm not getting into the extreme nuances of that right now.) Some argue Eddie's had chemistry with Felisa or Vanessa, but they aren't the ones Eddie's dating right now, are they? So Eddie, unlike Buck with his female LI's, hasn't really had any sexual tension with Ana or Marisol. The only person that (most) people agree Eddie has had sexual tension with is Buck. And we had a scene with them earlier with Buck watching a half-naked Eddie change too. So in this case, the line might also be a reference to Eddie having chemistry with men, but not really with any of his female LI's. I think the purposeful vagueness here though was a very telling choice on Tim's part.
Additionally, the use of the word "underlying". Underlying implies that the sexual tension isn't overt, but rather is something that lingers unspoken. Under the surface. Subtextual, if you will. Of course, it's possible to have subtextual sexual tension between an M/F pairing. But placing it in the context of this scene, where Buck is being weirdly heteronormative, it feels contradictory. If Buck believes that he (and Chris by proxy) can only have sexual tension with a female friend, why is it something that is hidden under the surface? If anything, due to heteronormativity, the sexual tension between a boy and girl should be plain as day for anyone to see, on the surface, very much textual and with no room for interpretation (ie. "He was a boy, she was a girl, could I make it any more obvious?"). But let's flip this around. With queer pairings and couplings, there's a huge history of their sexual tension and romance only being able to live and breathe in the subtext. This line being spoken between two men that many people for years have pointed out are heavily queer-coded and have a romantically-coded "bro" relationship with each other that so far has only been able to exist in subtext? Tim, you're not sly. I see right through you.
After that, Eddie tells Buck about Christopher seeing 5 girls at the same time. Everyone's shocked and Eddie insinuates that Christopher didn't get this from him. By pointing out that Buck is a reformed playboy (I personally disagree with aspects of this statement but that's neither here nor there), Eddie is implying that Christopher may potentially be getting this trait from Buck. Which is an interesting thing to say to someone if they're not already heavily involved in the process of raising your child. Eddie claims that he's a "nester", which in my mind means someone who is very paternal/maternal, or constantly trying to build the home or the family. ((Sidebar: I googled nesting and apparently it's ALSO a term used in both polyamorous spaces and was later separately coined as a term referring to "where men treat women like theyâre in a relationship, but they expect those women to know that it will never lead to real one." I don't interpret this line to mean either of those other definitions, I just think it's interesting that this is what popped up when I googled Nesting)).
Eddie then says he "married the first girl he dated" and Buck instantly volleys back with "think you mean slept with", which is EXTREMELY telling of a few things. First, I want to point out, that I don't believe this is Buck denouncing or disrespecting Shannon's important role in Eddie or Chris's life, but rather recontextualizing it.
We got clarification last season that Eddie fell into his relationship with Shannon almost in the same way that he fell into one with Ana and Marisol. It was heavily implied that Shannon was the pursuer, the one who made their relationship happen. Not Eddie. While Eddie was a little less passive with Ana and Marisol, being the one to ask both of them out, he still exhibits extreme passivity in the furthering of each of these relationships, preferring to "stick it out" rather than actually end it when it's not working. This is the exact same thing he did with Shannon. It's interesting that Buck argues that Eddie married the first girl he slept with rather than the first girl he dated.
Dating someone implies you really genuinely want to form a deep romantic relationship with someone (ie. call back to Buck's line to Maddie "at least when I date someone, I date them"), whereas sleeping with someone does not have to immediately mean wanting to be with them romantically. To me, this implies that while Eddie might've deeply loved Shannon as a friend and eventual mother of his child later and had sexual chemistry with her, the reason why he stayed with her is not because he wanted to continue dating her or being with her because he was IN LOVE with HER but rather because they slept together. And what came about from sleeping with her? A fucking traumatic teen pregnancy.
Both Buck AND Eddie recognize that in this scene (which is huge, especially for Eddie). I'm kinda blown away honestly. It's extremely important for the audience to see that while Eddie did, does and will always love Shannon, it is NOT romantic love, and may have not ever been. Which is FINE. They were literal teenagers for god's sake.
This is once again a recurring theme in Buck and Eddie's story in this episode. Defining what is considered romantic and what is considered platonic AND the possibility of redefining those distinctions years later. And it's interesting that in this case with Shannon, a woman, it's finally being acknowledged that it might not have been as romantic as Eddie may have believed for all these years.
Eddie then asks Buck to be the one to talk to Christopher about his relationship indiscretions. We see Eddie making the active choice to bring Buck deeper into the co-parenting role that's already been established in seasons 2-6. Right after Eddie talks about being a nester, a home-builder, he brings Buck deeper into his family in a parental role. To me, this scene doesn't imply that Eddie can't do it, or that it's out of his wheelhouse, but rather because he feels like Christopher might relate to Buck more about this. But even more so, it shows that Eddie inherently trusts Buck to be the one to talk to Christopher about this, because he's seen how Buck has grown over the years.
Eddie doesn't want Christopher to continue making bad choices in life and he tries to convey this to Buck, but Buck, with his own self-esteem issues, assumes that Eddie doesn't want Christopher to end up like Buck. Which is fascinating because Buck's made it a huge point throughout the series to show that he's grown past his sleeping-around phase (which was never about disrespecting or using women, it was always about Buck's own desire for love and connection that he felt he could only get through sex). And yet with this line, we see that Buck still doesn't realize how far he's come. He still feels like he isn't worth emulating or being someone to look up to. But Eddie does. Eddie sees and loves Buck to his core, and so he points it out to Buck that no, Buck actually didn't become that person, and that Buck is, in fact, worthy of being the one to parent Christopher in this situation. Once again, this is a great moment of showing how these two are able to see past their facades to the truth of each other's issues and provide strength, reassurance, and clarity to each other, as an ideal life partner would be able to do.
Then we get to see this amazing scene of Eddie talking down a panicking woman using his own unique "jello" methods. This coping mechanism tool he walks her through really does sound like something a therapist might teach their patient. Eddie not only is able to admit to having panic attacks but he's able to do it in front of strangers and his team alike with no shame (even a bit of pride at the end). This scene, which could've gotten very awkward very fast, ended up becoming a very sweet, serene moment where we also get to see that love reflected on Buck's face just how proud he is of how far Eddie has come. This episode made a point to show Buck and Eddie recognizing the other's growth and their pride in the other, as well as demonstrate how both are able to be there for the other emotionally in their times of need.
What's interesting is that this is all stuff that we've seen before. Buck and Eddie have been each other's emotional pillars for many years now. This is just a re-establishing episode. We know that this season their relationship is going to be shifting, growing, and showing a new side to it. So I'm intrigued to see how that will manifest given that we have already seen in one episode how Buck and Eddie are each other's closest person. Some might argue that this episode actually frames them to be closer and more emotionally supportive of each other than two of the other canonically romantic couples on the show.
Bathena are shown to be having marital problems in this episode, with Athena worrying she and Bobby might not actually have that much in common outside of the chaos. Madney is shown with pre-martial problems, with Chimney unnecessarily worrying he and Maddie's spark might fizzle out over the years and they might grow to resent each other. I'm not saying either of these relationship problems is really accurate, but it's just interesting to look at in comparison to how Buck and Eddie were framed in this episode, despite not being in a canonical romantic relationship at the moment.
This exchange absolutely took me the fuck out. Because this line did not need to be there. Even for the giggles. It could've even been a line of Buck being sincere and saying that he's proud of Eddie or something. Instead, we get this. "I've never seen a man turn a woman off with such skill". This line connected with the line from Marisol are both callbacks to Eddie's series-long issue with dating women. We get this in conjunction with Buck pointing out that Eddie doesn't really date these women he's in relationships with. He's just with them due to circumstances. Even if the circumstances are of his own making (which could be a symptom of compulsory heterosexuality). Eddie has never once talked about dating women like he's actually attracted to women. I'm so sorry. AND combined with the line where Buck and Eddie actually acknowledge that Eddie wasn't really with Shannon because he wanted to be with her but because of the family they accidentally created. All of this in ONE episode leading up to this line where it's heavily implied that Eddie's skill is his inability to turn women on, and to actually be able to turn them all the way off. And I'm just going to say it, but this line HEAVILY implies queerness. This is the kind of line you'd expect someone to say to a gay man or someone who doesn't actually want the sexual attention of a woman. This, again, in conjunction with Eddie not being able to tell the difference between a date with a woman vs. a man, is all too pointed.
This line alone in a vacuum could maybe not mean queerness, but alongside the whole rest of the episode where beat after beat after beat implies that Eddie has in fact NEVER been in a relationship with a woman 100% of his own active desire for her as a person and not just for what she can provide to his or his son's life?
This points to a very particular direction with Eddie that I'm expecting to see him fight against really hard this season. I would not be surprised if he ends up holding onto Marisol as the last shreds of perceived "normalcy" (ie. heterosexuality) are being threatened. Hopefully, he'll be able to reconcile the truth by the end of the season or going into season 8.
God this is so long and we haven't even gotten to the buddifer scene yet. This part will be a bit more condensed because I'm not really analyzing Chris as a character here or his relationship with Shannon. Maybe I will later.
I'm really loving seeing Christopher become his own person this season. But what really fascinates me here is Chris as a parallel to both Buck and Eddie. Christopher's abandonment trauma is starting to manifest in him through his choices with his love life. The same thing happened with Buck and with Eddie individually. Buck's trauma growing up informed his choices of sleeping around and seeking love from a myriad of individuals who didn't necessarily have his best interest at heart. Eddie's trauma manifested in him being so self-sacrificing that he can't ever choose a relationship for himself, but it always has to be in service of someone else or in pursuit of a perceived "Normal" standard.
In this case with Chris, his trauma is manifesting in a way more similar to Buck's, which is another reason why it's so perfect to see Buck being the one to discuss this with Chris, even though they don't necessarily delve too deep into it. There's no question Buck sees his own issues reflected in Chris. This has been true since 4x08 Breaking Point when Chris runs to Buck's house and confides in Buck his worries about people leaving him. Chris demonstrates a similar issue that Buck and Eddie both hold individually. That being the notion that "it doesn't matter what I do, or how good of a person I am, or how good of a partner I am, I am not worth staying for."
But the difference here is that Eddie and Buck, like the amazing co-parents they are, recognize the problem and take steps to address Christopher's trauma in a way that gives Chris autonomy and isn't condescending or out to make Christopher feel bad about making mistakes. The Buckley parents and the Diaz parents both failed Buck and Eddie in these ways because they blamed their children, never actually took the time to see the underlying issues let alone address them, and made them feel like everything was their fault, even going so far as to actively put their children down over and over and over again. Eddie and Buck get the beautiful chance to break the cycle here with Chris and get to be the parents that they never had.
It was so amazing to watch this episode with Buck and Eddie being supportive partners to each other and supportive parents to Christopher. It was an episode of growth just as much as it was an episode of reintroduction to a new audience. It was also extremely telling of what the future conflicts and themes will likely continue to be for Buck and Eddie for the rest of this season. I'm so excited to see what the rest of this season brings! And thank you from the bottom of my heart, ABC.

michelle's buddie fic recs: week 33
i've been reading so many brilliant fics lately and decided i wanted to share some of my favourites in a little rec list! i'm hoping to make this a weekly thing to share some extra love for the amazing authors of the 911 fandom <3
this is a mix of fics with all ratings, so some include NSFW content. please take a look at both the ratings and the fic tags before reading!
if you come across something you like in this list, remember to show some love to the author by leaving kudos and a comment! and with that, here's a small peek at my ao3 history this week <3
it hurts to hope for more | 42hrb/@exhuastedpigeon | 15.7k | M
Buck wants to be a dad, it takes a couple break-ups and a major non-romantic heartbreak for him to figure out that maybe he already is. definitely take a peek at the tags before reading but this is the most beautiful exploration of buck's desire to be a father + his relationship with eddie and chris!!
kindred spirits | Inell/@inell | 52.1k, ongoing | E
Eddie has been a member of Paranormal Research Group for nearly four years after being recruited during one of their investigations. During that time, heâs found a job he enjoys, created a family that cares about him, become an unwilling reality TV star, and fallen in love with his best friend and partner, Buck. okay so admittedly i am a chapter behind on this one but i'm so excited to read it like literally the tab is open i am ready!! i'm so intrigued by the paranormal research part of this fic and the buddie is just brilliant!
meet me where the tide comes in | iinryer/@iinryer | 4.2k | GA
a 3+1 fic about eddie getting kissed on the head i will never not love a head kiss fic tbh it's one of my biggest weaknesses, and this is no exception!
pivot tables | rainbowninja167/@rainbowtitania | 10.2k, ongoing | E
Buck learns that Eddie's never had a prostate orgasm. Clipboard sex ensues. this is funny and hot and sweet and so very them. it's ongoing and the two chapters that are up rn are absolute gems! the google form bit is my favourite <3
something to hold onto | foxwatson/@eddiediazes | 5.2k | T
the one where frank tells eddie he should work on letting himself want things, and eddie starts by cuddling with buck the absolute softest fluffiest cuddling fic. an immediate favourite!!
somewhere to stand and stay | teaspoon/@standback | 8.3k | E
in which buck accidentally passes his eddie-mentionitis to jee-yun, eddie grows a mustache, and buck realizes he wants to have eddie's babies. there's the cutest jee-yun ever, eddie's stache, a feelings realisation, and a breeding kink?? literally what else could i ask for. it's nothing the answer is nothing this fic is everything
waking the witch | lesbianrobin/@lesbianrobin | 7.8k | T
According to historians, seiĂ°r was a traditionally feminine religious practice among the Old Norse. According to Eddieâs mother, seiĂ°r is the birthright of a woman and a woman only, and Eddie is an aberration. i am such a sucker for magical realism fics it's honestly not even funny. but can you really blame me when the magic elements are incorporated as brilliantly as it's done here? just. the floating <3
#you will not believe the amount of times i had to sing the alphabet song to get this list in order lmao#if i messed up there sssh you don't see that#i also really hope i didn't tag the wrong people lol i'm so sorry if i did#i hope you find a fic you like on this list! they're all so so good i pinky promise#buddie#buddie fic#buddie fic rec#911 abc#911 fic#911 fic rec#michelleâs recs#fic rec list

Four: Eddie is, apparently, in love with him. And. And. Five: Buck doesnât feel the same way.
WIP
And here are my favorite WIP that I really hope will continue to be updated in 2024! đ€
for all the haunts and homes of men by euadnes/ @kananjarus (Canon Divergent, Post-Apocalyptic, Station Eleven Crossover | WIP | 11/? | 96K | Mature | Warning: Violence): The year by the old calendar is 2025. Home is gone. Home is a failed rescue mission and an echo of a memory. Home is a lost boy living in a wooden house by the sea. But first, there was a promise. Christopher, when it's safe, I'll take you back to your father. Buck had all but given up on keeping it after the world had died and everyone in it. But just as some oaths refuse to be forgotten, so the same can be said about the endurance of love.
Things We're All Too Young to Know by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Canon, S1 through S6 | 104/? | 283K | Mature): This is a love story. Even if it doesnât always look like it. Even if it doesnât always feel like it. A look back on Eddie and Buck's lives up to now, and what led them to each other, interpreted from the current 9-1-1 canon.
Precious & Fragile Things by Daisies_and_Briars/ @cal-daisies-and-briars (Small Miracles AU, Angel Buck | 10/? | 25K | Teen): Buck is the Fallen Angel of Petty Temptation, who has been tasked with tempting human Eddie Diaz to sin and enjoy life, but just a little. He thinks the job will be easy - get in, get out, go back to Peru to continue messing around with eternity. But when Buck arrives in Los Angeles, he finds Eddie is harder to tempt than expected, and more compelling than Buck had hoped.
Right Where You Left Me by hyacinthusbloom/ @thebloomingheather (Canon Divergent, Post-S4, Angst | 89K | 20/? | Explicit | Warning: Rape/Non-con): "Therapy?" Eddie suggests. Buck almost laughs, but instead says, "I'll go if you go." Because he had fully expected him to be chicken shit, to disagree, and instead Eddie, the bastard, replies, "Deal." Or Buck never tells anyone that he slept with his therapist and deals with the butterfly effect years later.
Innocence died screaming, honey, ask me I should know by JJK/ @trenchcoatsandtimetravel (Demon Buck, Canon Divergent | 7/? | 12K | Teen): Buck is a demon with the power to help with pregnancy, childbirth, and infant health. When the Buckleys make a deal asking for someone to help 'save their baby', Buck leaps at the chance as it will give him what he's always wanted: a life on earth. But demon deals are tricky and neither of them gets quite what they're after. This is Buck's journey as he navigates growing up on earth and remembering how to help those in need.

Well, I wanted to ramble a bit about how I totally love everything about the way Buck's bisexuality arc has been handled so far on 9-1-1. đđđ The sheer positivity and euphoria on display about it within the show makes me so profoundly happy! There has been no shame spiral, no element of exclusively targeted biphobia, only pure queer joy and acceptance thus far. đ Buck accepted his newfound identity with ease, and his friends and loved ones also accepted him easily (his parents' hilariously weird reaction is a different story, but let's not get into decoding that right now.)
But it is Tommy's acceptance of Buck's bisexuality I really love the most. I especially adore how Tommy respects the fact that though Buck has only recently discovered he liked kissing men, it won't change that Buck has been attracted to women and will continue to be (Their exchange during the first date in 7x05 â I'm not lying about who I am / I didn't say you were, I was talking about me.) Tommy is a gay man but he is not at all insecure about Buck's attraction to multiple genders, and is not the least bit doubtful of Buck's same-sex attraction towards himself. And I think that is absolutely wonderful to see!
Moreover, this is kind of a contrast to the Hen and Eva backstory wherein Eva is shown to get pregnant from Denny's bio-dad (I don't exactly recall if Eva cheated on Hen with the man, but I think she did, correct me if I am wrong though, may have to rewatch.) Eva was a dark character regardless of her sexual identity but whatever this storyline was, it still emphasised the harmful "bisexuals get around" narrative, which shouldn't be condoned.
That's why I love this easy acceptance of Buck's bisexuality, specifically from Tommy's end so much, because bisexuals are often not only discriminated against by queer-phobes in general, but also face discrimination from within the LGBTQ+ community too. I hope Tim Minear and the writers stick to this positive approach towards Buck's bi-acceptance (self as well as from fellow queers and non-queers), because this is a rarity to see on screen. I'm sure there are more examples but I think the only other time I've seen this kind of all-round positive bisexual acceptance is for Alex Claremont-Diaz in Red, White & Royal Blue. And similarly, David Rose's pansexuality on Schitt's Creek. Whereas on shows like Grey's Anatomy, Station 19, How to Get Away With Murder, etc. I've also seen a bit of biphobia on display in the same space they attempt to showcase bisexual pride and queer representation.
So considering everything, I really want to see Buck and Tommy's relationship grow moving forward and see them be happy and madly in love, but I also want to watch them navigate different challenges couples encounter in their romantic journey and stay committed to each other through the highs and lows of it all. But while the writers are at it, I really hope they never reinforce any unfair bisexual prejudices through the narrative. Because the way it's been positively dealt with in season 7 by Tim & Co. is truly precious, and I wouldn't want anything about it to change! âšđłâđ

Iâve always loved the idea of Buck accidentally developing a fatherly relationship with Dallas because imagine being a Cowboy kinda guy in the 1960s and finding some rat stealing from your pantry and then whoops, thatâs your new son! Youâre stuck with him! You love him and you will be gutted when he inevitably gets himself killed because no one can take the wild out of an animal, especially not you and you are very aware of this!
I'm not going to lie, with all the awesome headcanons and lore being created about Buck I am SUPER conflicted about my take on him. I think having him act as a fatherly or older brotherly figure to Dallas in an alternate universe would add some really interesting depth to his character and offer a bit more insight into his motivation for doing and saying certain things. HOWEVER, that said, I think within the canon universe I couldn't really ever see Buck that way and there's a few reasons for that. For one, in the little we see from Buck we know that he displays none of Dallas' gallantry, and that he's weak. Canon Dallas would abhor that weakness, and we know he uses it to his advantage, bullying Buck to get what he wants. Even PONY knows this is a hallmark of his character as he 'bullies' Buck into going to get Dallas after Johnny stabs Bob. We also know that Dallas has a dad that wouldn't care if he died and that it 'doesn't bother him'- I can't see canon Dallas forming a father/son bond with someone only a few years his senior, or really anyone at all (remember, it was the Curtis' MOM he was canonically close to, not their dad). Finally, if we establish Buck as a fatherly/brotherly influence in Dally's life we lose some of the 'shown not told' elements of his character. Dally lives alone in rented room in a (heavily implied to be) illegal bar at seventeen years old, and he is stuck in this dangerous environment BECAUSE he is entirely self sufficient and has to take care of himself. Dally living at Buck's has always been (in my eyes) a way to further establish him as wilder and more dangerous than the rest of the Curtis gang and Tulsa hoods.
SIGH. Now I'm done yapping I can explore the fun world in your ask because it really DOES offer some fun headcanons/character work. Sooooo, here's some headcanons:
-Buck is (as we know) a cowboy, and he first establishes a connection with Dallas because he just unconciously treated him like a horse he was trying to tame and lo and behold it worked
-Dally only rides in the rodeos because BUCK talked to the higher ups and got him a chance at the position. It made Buck even more mad when Dally wouldn't help him fix the races
-Buck isn't sure if Dally is completely sane because he's seen one too many violent outbursts or mental breakdowns but it doesn't bother him much, because there's a lot of folks from the east side who aren't completely right in the head. What DOES scare him is the look in Dally's eyes sometimes when he pulls out his switch
-Dally is the only 'tenant' of Bucks that Buck ever drags back to their room when they pass out drinking at the bar (Dally is convinced he's just good at taking care of himself when he's blackout drunk. He isn't, but Buck isn't gonna be the one to tell him.)
-Buck looks out for Johnny because Dally looks out for Johnny, and Dallas might go full crazy if anything happened to the kid
-After Dally died, Buck hosted a party that lasted three days and nights until the fuzz finally shut it down (it was easier to drink and party than to think about the blond haired asshole Buck had grown to love)
-Buck is the only person besides Johnny who ever saw a softer side of Dally, and it wasn't because Dally was soft with HIM but the hoods' eyes were calm and his face almost happy whenever he went with Buck to the stables to groom the horses
thanks for the ask xx

9-1-1 Season 7 Post-Mortem
Mostly because I want to put my thoughts in order. Full disclosure: I'm really not thrilled with a lot of the choices this season made, but I'm also not at the 'fuck this show I hate it now' level either. The primary, overarching issue, IMO, is that they tried to stuff a full season's worth of plot into ten episodes, and the pacing and emotional continuity suffered badly. And also there were some writing choices that were simply deranged (and hopefully would have been reworked had they not been laying down the tracks in front of the speeding train, so to speak).
(Cut for me rambling at length)
So: Bobby and Athena were largely really solidly written. The cruise ship disaster was great: campy and OTT, but in a fun way. Their marital issues and the eventual resolution felt like a natural continuation of issues they've had in the past. Bobby Begins 3.0 was a great episode other than the cartel element, which was some ill-considered racial stereotyping (I've said it before and I'll say it again: you could have had the antagonists in that episode be a bunch of angry locals threatening people for tresspassing on their property, and the whole thing would have been 100% less gross without actually changing much of the plot. Really felt like Tim was cribbing from the similar Lone Star arc, which was also lazy and racist). Amir was a fantastic character, and while I could have done without that last scene of him offering Bobby absolution, I feel like he was generally allowed to be both gracious and rightfully angry. The cop Athena stuff in the finale was... less great, but also to be expected. I would have liked much less of that and much more time spent at Bobby's bedside.
(I'm really sad about the house fire mostly because that was one of my favorite sets, but I do appreciate the poetry of the parallel, with Bobby actually managing to get his wife out this time. Though I do wonder where Harry was that night, lmao.)
Hen was similarly wonderful. I really liked getting to see her wrestle with the responsibility of being captain, and the fallout of the car accident scene. In a vacuum, I actually like Ortiz as a villain - a complicated one, with sympathetic motivations, but still ostentatiously cruel. Were it not for the fact that there are basically NO latine characters other than Eddie who aren't villains this season, it would have been great. ALAS.
Did not love the rescue dog/foster child parallel with Mara. Otherwise really loved getting to see her settle in with the Wilsons, and I'm really glad that we got to see Chim and Maddie take her in instead of leaving her at the group home by the end of the season. Really leaned into the found family element, and Chim taking care of his best friend's child in the same way that Mrs. Lee did for him.
CHIM! Chim my beloved. 'There Goes The Groom' is the one episode that I have basically no issues with at all. The hallucinatory trip through Los Angeles, wrestling with Doug's ghost, was gorgeous. Bringing back Kevin - also gorgeous. I loved that we see the Lees explicitly framed as his real family (and am spitefully glad that his bio dad was nowhere to be found. Fuck that guy.) Kenny continues to be, IMO, the best actor on this show. He killed it. We need so many more Chim-centric episodes, because they're always SO good. He can make both humor and pathos feel so natural and human. Give us more Chim!
And of course on to Buck's bisexual arc, which was... so painfully Buck, lmao. Full disclosure: I have a lot of trouble rewatching 7x04 and 7x05 because the secondhand embarrassment is just too much for me, but objectively it feels very right and in character for him. LOVED the first kiss scene, with his dawning realization of what's about to happen and his softly stunned joy afterward. His coming out scenes with both Maddie and Eddie were lovely and perfectly appropriate to both relationships. I really liked him taking the initiative to reach out to Tommy to apologize and ask for a second chance after he fucked up their first date. Loved Tommy showing up at the hospital after what was clearly a long, miserable shift.
Their date in the finale didn't really land for me mostly because of where it was placed in the episode; if they did something with the two of them after Buck spent the entire day at Bobby's bedside waiting to see if he was going to live, it would have felt a lot more natural to me to have them exhaustedly eating takeout on the couch or something instead of having a formal sit-down date with wine and place settings. Intentionally or not, that made it feel like they're still on Date Behavior with each other and despite some gestures toward emotional vulnerability, they're not quite there yet - as seen by Buck steering the conversation back to flirting and innuendo. My overall feeling on the relationship at this point is that it's cute, but I'm not seeing any real depth of feeling between them yet.
Buck and Eddie on the other hand - look, despite my many MANY issues with Eddie's plot this season, I loved how his relationship with Buck was written. I love the intimacy and familiarity of how they are together, I loved the way Eddie let himself lean on Buck, I loved how Buck is clearly positioned as an integral part of the Diaz family.
Unfortunately, that's really the only thing I loved about Eddie's plot this season. His relationship with Marisol was ultimately pointless; she was never fleshed out enough to feel like a real character, and we never even see the fallout of Eddie's cheating with regard to her; it's all Chris. The Kim stuff strained credulity, and also I never felt like he got any kind of emotional catharsis or resolution through it; he still hasn't really confronted any of his issues about Shannon, about their marriage and how it ended. That whole arc felt really wobbly in terms of tone, as well: using plot elements of a very famous psychological thriller without actually acknowledging any of the creepiness of it. I would have liked it to lean into that more especially with the scene where Kim dresses up as Shannon, an objectively creepy and unhinged thing to do.
The Diaz parents handled the Chris thing in a selfish and opportunistic way that felt both disappointing and inevitable. Hopefully that's going to be a hook for the next season and Eddie actually confronting them, but overall Eddie's plot this season really felt like they just tossed a bunch of balls up in the air and mostly failed to catch them.
Gerrard - look, I'm not that worried about Gerrard. I could have done without him, but ultimately he's going to stick around just long enough to make his inevitable defeat satisfying. At least, that's my hope.
