Happy Audio Drama Sunday! This week I was on vacation and let me tell you. It was glorious. So I had plenty of time to enjoy this week’s offerings! Let’s goooooo

🥸 @worldgonewrongpod is always a huge treat, and this week committed so hard to the true meaning of friendship: making your way through the apocalypse together. I am so pleased they’re doing a second season. I am also. VERY worried about the alien doppelgänger Malik has decided to be friendly with. Why would he DO that.

📖 I haven’t talked about @wanderersjournalpod yet, but i have been listening, and this last episode established STAKES. It’s such a unique conceit, this shared journal between two very distant people, and the helplessness Marigold felt when they were unable to contact their new friend by any means except the journal was genuinely scary. I’m looking forward to where this story goes—hop on board now folks!

🔪 Jeez louise, @hellofromthehallowoods is gonna kill me. Voltaire. Leave that man alone you creep. I hate him so much. I am looking forward to seeing if Lady Ethel Mallory makes an appearance for real, and if so, how she’s changed in fourteen years.

🗝️ Can we talk about Divorce Ranch?? This is a newer show from Good Story Guild that I’ve been catching up on, a historical mystery set in fifties Reno, when a major part of their appeal was how easy it was to 1) establish a residency and then 2) get a no-fault divorce. And then there’s a MURDER, and a charming wet meow meow of a detective. This one is definitely worth the listen.

🦎 In Hannah News, while the Dead is on hiatus, I am finishing up the work on this season of Inn Between (which mostly involves being super impressed with Katherine all the time). This finale is going to be a treat, you have to hop on the season five train.

Audio Drama Sunday - 12/11/23

Happy Audio Drama Sunday, friends! To get my brain in gear for Travelling Light, I've been venturing into a bit more sci-fi than I usually listen to and did you know? There's some real good spaceship podcasts out there?? 🚀✨

First up, I've been blasting through @vestaclinicpod and having a (space) whale of a time. Every character is now my child, and I would die for them. I love how the medical angle helps keep the stories grounded, and gives a really fun angle of entry for exploring the world!

Someone on the MP Discord server recommended StarTripper!! for people excited about Travelling Light and I'm thrilled they did. It's SO much fun, with really tight eps that go down super easy. Reminds me watching classic scifi with my dog after school. You know, like a cool kid 😎

Less silly but just as immersive has been The Strange Case of Starship Iris. I was hooked from the first episode - literally stopped in the middle of the washing up to listen better. The acting is class and they manage to make the action scenes fun and compelling - no mean feat in audio!

All that said, there have been a few old favourites playing in Monstrous HQ this week too. I'm loving the start of the latest (and last!) season of @the-mistholme-museum. Sweet Audio Tour Guide and their totally-not-a-crush 🥰 Can't wait to see where it goes from here!

Finally, God knows I post enough about @thesiltverses that at this point there is a weird little crab where my heart should be. But its just real good OK. It's real fuckin good. And as their VA, I've decided Sibling Rane's first name is, in fact, Perple. You're welcome.

FAKE IN-CHARACTER POST:

AITA for setting fire to my office instead of telling my new employees that I'm their boss?

I (29, M) own a small 24 hour convenience store in my town with a small staff unit of roughly 10 people. I try to keep myself distanced in a professional setting so I can continue to act as a frequent customer to ensure my employees are keeping up a good customer service. Most of my professional communication takes place via email and only a select handful have connected the dots.

During my customer visit last night, the storm cut out the shops power. For context, the workers on shift (20s F & 20s NB) had been following me around and doing what I assume to be flirting before we were left in the dark. With my phone's flashlight being weak, I led them to the secret office at the back of the store to see if resetting the power was an option.

In order to get a greater light source, I started burning old paperwork in a trashcan, which I had been meaning to dispose of anyways so honestly, came as a cheap benefit. Unfortunately, the power outage was a whole street ordeal that lasted just over an hour and I spent most of it happily in silence staring at the raw flames. My nephew tells me this is entrapment and I should come clean about my identity, but I think this dynamic benefits everyone involved so, AITA?

if you're trying to get into the head of your story's antagonist, try writing an "Am I the Asshole" reddit post from their perspective, explaining their problems and their plans for solving them. Let the voice and logic come through.

ANA Presents: Necessary Evil

This four-episode miniseries takes place in the Absolutely No Adventures universe but follows evil queen Sibella in her downtime between magic battles and running her seized kingdom.

It's going to have all the same genre humor and slice of life stories as regular ANA episodes but from the POV of a charming villain rather than an extremely annoyed baker.

Audio Drama Sunday - 26/11/23

Happy Audio Drama Sunday, friends! This week has also been largely dominated by Murderbot BUT I did manage to squeeze some of that GOOD PODDY GOODNESS in as well!

I polished off the last of @vestaclinicpod and absolutely loved it! It's such a fun, cosy wee show with a really strong premise, and you can just feel how much fun everyone involved is having😍

I also started @theheartpyre who are doing a way more intensive choose-your-own-adventure thing than Travelling Light - super impressed, it's already enough work for me to do it every few weeks so this is a workload not to be sniffed at 🤩 I love seeing how each choice turns the story in a new direction, and it's always a joy to hear an accent in AD that isn't American or London 💖

The latest episode of @the-mistholme-museum was as delightful as ever - love to hear Dom singing the praises of a billionaire businessman with a penchant for altering reality... 😉

And finally I binged all four eps (so far!) of @eelerschoice and WHOO! I'm always here for eldritch marine life, and the world they've built here is absolutely compelling. I love finding out more about how the magic works, and the characters are so rich and full of life!

So today is the last Audio Drama Sunday before we reach our crowdfunding goal for Holmwood. What can I say? It's been a massive rollercoaster of a journey. We will have to see what happens on Thursday, but as we have a chance today, I wanted to thank everyone who has backed the project, supported us in any way, and enthused about Holmwood online on our various social media platforms over the last few months.

Georgia and I are known as writers really only in the niche world of Doctor Who IP, so we knew it was a massive risk to jump from Big Finish's safety net into the podcast community. Needless to say, everyone has been brilliant, and so so welcoming. We're so touched and honoured to have been supported and cheered on by all of you.

We're new to producing, casting and marketing, but we love the Dracula novel. We love creating spaces for queer and trans people in our writing. We love Holmwood. It is a massive part of who we are and why we came together as a couple. Jeremy and Maddie are so special to us, and seeing the love shared by everyone else puts us in awe regularly, especially the fan art and the memes.

Our crowdfund officially ends in three days. Three more days, and only £4899 left to raise.
