That whale pod episode was so wonderful. I wish I could see it in theatre. (In hindsight, maybe that's how Innominate experienced it— kinda?)

That’s the joy and grief of audio dramas: you get to see some of the most wonderful/beautiful/terrifying/mind-boggling sights without ever actually SEEING them.

That’s also the joy and grief of creating audio dramas: you get to share a vision with an audience knowing that each person will have a different vision than the one in your head, and that each vision is just as real and legitimate and profound as yours.

(And, yes, that’s probably exactly how The Innominate experienced the whales: the same as you.)

Recently got back into podcasts with @erraticuspodcast and I am Screaming this is so fun. I want to argue with The Anominate. Also am I imagining how similar the names Moss and Fern are or is naming your kids after plants a cultural thing in Erraticus-verse🤔🤔

hey gang. hat in my hands here. I am once again asking for podcast recs. it's been. several years. but i reeeeaaaaaallly need a good dose of space-fairing sci-fi. I've obviously listened to wolf 359, but other than that I've really skipped over the podcast scene on this one. I've listened to Midnight Burger and Marsfall too. idk. please someone help me

My vibe is usually more "ahah, hijincks in outter space" so it might not really be what you're looking for but still

everyone's first thought is probably Wolf 359 cause. c'mon. A classic. I feel like the closest to that that I've got is Erraticus, basically 3 beings forced to cohabit on a ship in the middle of space when neither of them have the same goals (very underrated). A favorite genre of mine is "bunch of shit (usually improbable and/or hilarious) happening on a space stations far far away from earth" which both EOS 10 (which is kind of a mess tbh (affectionnate)) and Life with Althaar can account for. Solar Postal Service has a really good vibe and is pretty short to listen to so don't hesitate to give it a go... Now I'm not sure if Civilized counts as it's a very chaotic improvised audio drama about a small group of settlers on a weird isolated planet ? And, once again, kind of a stretch, but I must at least mention Midst since that is to me the best sci fi podcast out there and has a lot of themes of reflections in its character-driven storylines...

you don't know how much the developing friendship between Fern and the Sentient Being means to me, I like seing them fight for stupid reasons but it's also nice to see all that bickering turn into something a tad more genuine

don't get me wrong, I absolutely love her being sassy and a pain in the ass, but those kind of little moments are also good for my heart

These all exist in the same niche in my brain, and do not take the order into account as it was random. Erraticus, Khôra, and The Pilgrimage Saga are probably the most similar, but the others are DEFINITELY important. Breathing Space is an anthology but is definitely the MOST space western on this list. If you do enjoy the anthology format, then definitely also listen to Unseen, as it's made by the same folks as w359. If you like We Fix Space Junk, I also DEFINITELY have some recs based on that as well

What would u rec for someone who has listened to wolf 359 and midnight burger and is desperately trying to find another podcast with That Vibe 👀

OUGHH kinda ! I have been desperately trying to find more that do it like those two but I have not been quiteeee successful yet. There's things that w359 and mb do that I literally have not found anything that does the things for that Vibe while also not being a tragedy.

However!! The Far Meridian does get close, as well as Starfall and SCP: Find Us Alive. I've found that stuff in the Fable and Folly Network tends to lean in that direction. Definitely listen to The Strange Case of Starship Iris, and if that one is super good, let me know bc I have more recs based on that. A lot of people who go the w359 route tend to listen to The Strange Case of Starship Iris and there's a VERY GOOD reason why. It does bring you into space pirate western territory, and I've got lots of those.

Podcasts with similar vibes to wolf 359 (in the opinion of this blogger)

The Strange Case of Starship Iris (I'd call this Wolf 359 crossed with Firefly. Found family, corrupt government plots, the results of humanities First Contact with alien life, and one of the cutest relationships I've ever seen.)

The Pilgrimage Saga (Found Family, corrupt government plots, similar themes of how being human doesn't always equate to being a person, and an AI who gives Hera a run for her money on my favorites list)

The Pasithea Powder (i cant really explain the similarities here in detail without spoiling a lot, you may think I'm crazy for saying they've got the same vibes at first, but once you get into the thick of it you'll get it. The writers cite Wolf 359 as one of their inspirations and it's evident in how they play on similar themes of memory and how removing scenes changes the whole story, and discussions of what makes a person a person.)

Girl in Space (Space Capitalism once again getting in the way of people just trying to live in the station they've been abandoned on 😪)

ArsParadoxica (if you're ever wanting a really meaty, complex story. This one right here. It's only 35 eps but it feels so much longer because SO MUCH happens and it's. So good. Ft. Emma Sherr-Ziarko in one of the final episodes)

Erraticus (Found family, corrupt corporate AND government plots, imagine if lambert and Eiffel were trapped on a ship with Eris except Eris didn't have access to her little game and was just a mother program.)

We Fix Space Junk (This one is def more of an a Comedy Podcast than Wolf BUT it's got a very fun plot still, Automnicon is basically Goddard on steroids, Kristen DiMercurio and Beth Eyre (Fourier!) guest star at some point, AND there's an accompanying TTRPG!)

Oz 9 (this is 100% a comedy podcast but in the best way possible. I personally call it "Wolf 359 but everyone is an absolute moron" because,,,these people really are complete dummies. Even the ones with PhDs.)
