having my first proper Feuilly Moment after skimming an old article on the labor movement in the period immediately after the july revolution.... did you guys know. skilled artisans and craftsmen who made fine goods (Like Fan Makers) were hit hardest by the post-revolution recession because of how many aristocrats were in exile & the sudden drop in tourism. and the dissatisfaction & unrest amongst said artisans and craftsmen was a Big part of the beginning of the formation of secret societies like the society of the rights of man which was the real-life revolutionary group leading the 1832 june rebellion. did you guys know that there is a constant line connecting real-life struggle for progress with that in les miserables. and that line spans past and future. before and after publication. did you guys know that the fan makers really died. did you know we really, really remember them.

adding to my tags because i’ve been thinkin a lot about the post i just reblogged and have more thoughts:

i’ll be real, the more i saw ‘hey adhd influencers are so annoying’ the more i worried that i was unconsciously contributing to the spreading reputation of adhd folks as annoying and over-pathologizing every symptom they experience

and then i realized. i am not a goddam influencer or life coach or representative. obviously i have some obligation as someone who cares about myself and the people that like my comics to not spread harmful ideology or blatant misinformation but i never intended myself to be a “’increase your productivity!!’ blog OR a ‘if you have XYZ you have adhd!’ blog. and i do this for fun, and originally started this blog bc i had a lot of internalized shame and self loathing about my adhd and thought if i could make it funny i might have less of that. let’s get real! and it worked!

i’ve obviously done this kind of thing— (hey these symptoms might be adhd!) a lot before in my life & on this blog, but there’s more to it than trying to be an “influencer” or whatever. a term that didn’t even exist when i started this blog!

i felt very isolated trying to find out if i had any mental problems & what have you originally because of large advice (etc) blogs with staunchly anti self Dx views at the time

so i overcorrected when i DID get dxed and tried to validate everyone who was like me. and of course. not the best course of action always for the ol mental health. tried to be the source of positivity and jokes that i didn’t see because the online adhd presence was near non-existent.

and anyway. i make a lot of fun of myself & the way m brain works in my comics obviously but it is not my obligation to... how do you say.... not be annoying online.

because if folks interpret MY little jokes as a strict guide to diagnosis. that’s on them, really, not me. i also believe “making adhd your entire personality” is a non-issue. so what if people find out they have it and get over excited with identifying as adhd. saying this as someone who DID do it. criticism of this gives the same vibes as people being annoyed that young queers make “being queer” their whole personality. im very obviously more than a guy with adhd, and id reckon other adhd comic artists are too. (im friends with a lot of them!) it’s fine to post about it online.

anyway. i just don’t take myself too seriously and i’m a comic artist for myself first! and you know what, i’ve been considered annoying my entire life. what do i care if a few more folks think i’m annoying. neurotypical or not

Do you have any fantasy book recommendations? Just finished Legends and Lattes and now I’m frothing at the mouth for more fantasy stories.

I sadly don't have any at the moment. I paused on reading for a bit to prepare to run Dnd for the first time in years.

I think the only somewhat fantasy book I'm reading (but idk if I would even call it fantasy) is The Odyssey. I'm really enjoying it so far! I partly started reading it cause I would love to write a sea faring story with ancient greece inspirations, and also partly because I simped so hard for Odysseus in Hades II. Either way, it's an amazing read so far!

There are some non fantasy books im working on. One of them is No Longer Human. However, I MUST say please look up trigger warnings for the book. It is SUPER depressing so far and I've heard it only gets more and more sad.

Another one is Hayao Miyazaki's Starting Point. I'm not too far into it yet. I got it cause I love studio ghibli and animation and wanted to learn more about Miyazaki and his works.

And then today, I listened to the story I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream. That one, though, is sci-fi and really scary! (At least to me who has a fear of body horror.) Again though, I would look up trigger warnings for it.

Oh, Wait! While I haven't read it recently and never finished it, I did recently grab the og book of Howls Moving Castle. I remember starting it in high school and I thought it was really good. Though I'm unsure if my opinions will be the same. I'm hoping so.

i hate aromantic or asexual resources written by alloromantic and allosexual people. the complexities of our identities and of our communities are hidden because the writers fail to understand us. we are kept in obscurity because nobody cares to properly teach about us, because nobody wants to hear our voices. the world is fed misinformation about us because people would rather get their information by someone who isn't even aspec than teach themselves about our community

I highly recommend this read if you are interested in de-centering the human narrative of Earth’s past, present, and future, in favor of something that captures the complex networks of beings and actions that create our world. 

Donna Haraway’s writing about the term Cthulucene as an alternative to Anthropocene or Capitalocene is frankly thrilling to me as a solarpunk. I am interested in reimagining how we create our world using language; who/what does [this word] center? Who/what does [that word] exclude? The linguistics of a social movement or revolution may appear trivial, but Haraway demonstrates how they are actually essential. 

Let’s hone our language into something that can, to the best of its ability, widen our perspectives past the anthropos, past the human narrative.

We must think!

Doing a historiography on indigenous women and marriage/committed relationships in the North American West.

I keep finding new books I need to grab and work into this every goddamn time I read another article. This paper is due in less than a week at this point.

At least the maximum number of works to analyze is 7, so I can limit what I actually use. But I've read 14 things at this point (mostly articles, I have to do the books still) and there is no sign of an end. (I mean, I'm going to straight up refuse to get anything else. I will read the bibliography for this next book while standing in the library, track anything else down, and then sequester myself in my apartment reading and writing this damn paper until my class on Tuesday.)

Also, can I just say, when I signed up for grad school I was expecting to do, like... Actual research papers for class. Not just historiography. I know why we're doing it (it'd be stupid to do research without a really solid grasp of the state of the field), but I hate historiography papers.

Please, if you can, take a moment to read and share this because I feel like I'm screaming underwater.

NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) stigma is rampant right now, and seems to be getting progressively worse. Everyone is using it as a buzzword in the worst ways possible, spreading misinformation and hatred against a real disorder.

I could go on a long time about how this happened, why it's factually incorrect (and what the disorder actually IS), why it's harmful, and the changes I'd like to see. But to keep this concise, I'll simply link to a few posts under the cut for further reading.

The point of this post is a plea. Please help stop the spread of stigma. Even in mental health communities, even around others with personality disorders, in neurodivergent "safe" spaces, other communities I thought people would be supportive in (e.g. trans support groups, progressive spaces in general), it keeps coming up. So I'm willing to bet that a lot of people on this site need to see this.

Because it's so hard to exist in this world.

My disorder already makes me feel as if I'm worthless and unlovable, like there's something inherently wrong and damaged about me. And it's so much harder to fight that and heal when my daily life consists of:

Laughing and spending time with my friends, doing my utmost best to connect and stay present and focused on them, trying to let my guards down and be real and believe I'm lovable- when suddenly they throw out the word "narcissist" to describe horrible people or someone they hate, or the conversation turns to how evil "people with narcissistic personality disorder" are. (Seriously, you don't know which of your friends might have NPD and feels like shit when you say those things & now knows that you'd hate them if you knew.)

Trying to look up "mental health positivity for people with npd", "mental health positivity cluster bs", only to find a) none of that, and b) more of the same old vile shit that makes me feel terrible about myself.

Having a hard time (which is constant at this point) and trying to look up resources for myself, only to again, find the same stigma. And no resources.

Not having any clue how to help myself, because even the mental health field is spitting so much vitriol at people with DISORDERS (who they're supposed to be helping!) that there's no solid research or therapy programs for people like me.

Losing close friends when they find out, despite us having had a good relationship before, and them KNOWING me and knowing that I'm not like the trending image of pwNPD. Because now they only see me through the lens of stigma and misinformation.

Hearing the same stigma come up literally wherever I go. Clubs. Meetings. Any online space. At the bus stop. At the mall. At a restaurant. At work. Buzzword of the year that everyone loooves loudly throwing around with their friends or over the phone. Feels awesome for me, makes my day so much better/s

I could go on for a long time, but I'm scared no one will read/rb this if it gets too much longer.

So please. Stop using the word "narcissist" as a synonym for "abusive".

Stop bringing up people you hate who you believe to have NPD because of a stigmatizing article full of misinformation whenever someone with actual NPD opens their mouth. (Imagine if people did that with any other disorder! "Hey, I'm autistic." "Oh... my old roommate screamed at me whenever I made noise around him, and didn't understand my needs, which seems like sensory overload and difficulty with social cues. He was definitely autistic. But as long as you're self-aware and always restraining your innate desire to be an abusive asshole, you're okay I guess, maybe." ...See how offensive and ignorant that is?)

Stop preventing healthcare for people with a disorder just because it's trendy to use us as a scapegoat.
