---NOVELS---
Giovanni's room"When David meets the sensual Giovanni in a bohemian bar, he is swept into a passionate love affair. But his girlfriend's return to Paris destroys everything. Unable to admit to the truth, David pretends the liaison never happened - while Giovanni's life descends into tragedy. This book introduces love's fascinating possibilities and extremities."
Go Tell It On The Mountain"(...)Baldwin's first major work, a semi-autobiographical novel that has established itself as an American classic. With lyrical precision, psychological directness, resonating symbolic power, and a rage that is at once unrelenting and compassionate, Baldwin chronicles a fourteen-year-old boy's discovery of the terms of his identity as the stepson of the minister of a storefront Pentecostal church in Harlem one Saturday in March of 1935. Baldwin's rendering of his protagonist's spiritual, sexual, and moral struggle of self-invention opened new possibilities in the American language and in the way Americans understand themselves."
+bonus: film adaptation on youtube. (if youâre a giancarlo esposito fan, youâll be delighted to see him in an early preacher role)
Another Country and Going to Meet the Man Another country: "James Baldwin's masterly story of desire, hatred and violence opens with the unforgettable character of Rufus Scott, a scavenging Harlem jazz musician adrift in New York. Self-destructive, bad and brilliant, he draws us into a Bohemian underworld pulsing with heat, music and sex, where desperate and dangerous characters betray, love and test each other to the limit." Going to meet the Man: " collection of eight short stories by American writer James Baldwin. The book, dedicated "for Beauford Delaney", covers many topics related to anti-Black racism in American society, as well as African-AmericanâJewish relations, childhood, the creative process, criminal justice, drug addiction, family relationships, jazz, lynching, sexuality, and white supremacy."
Just Above My Head"Here, in a monumental saga of love and rage, Baldwin goes back to Harlem, to the church of his groundbreaking novel Go Tell It on the Mountain, to the homosexual passion of Giovanni's Room, and to the political fire that enflames his nonfiction work. Here, too, the story of gospel singer Arthur Hall and his family becomes both a journey into another country of the soul and senses--and a living contemporary history of black struggle in this land."
If Beale Street Could Talk"Told through the eyes of Tish, a nineteen-year-old girl, in love with Fonny, a young sculptor who is the father of her child, Baldwin's story mixes the sweet and the sad. Tish and Fonny have pledged to get married, but Fonny is falsely accused of a terrible crime and imprisoned. Their families set out to clear his name, and as they face an uncertain future, the young lovers experience a kaleidoscope of emotions-affection, despair, and hope. In a love story that evokes the blues, where passion and sadness are inevitably intertwined, Baldwin has created two characters so alive and profoundly realized that they are unforgettably ingrained in the American psyche."
also has a film adaptation by moonlight's barry jenkins
Tell Me How Long the Train's been gone At the height of his theatrical career, the actor Leo Proudhammer is nearly felled by a heart attack. As he hovers between life and death, Baldwin shows the choices that have made him enviably famous and terrifyingly vulnerable. For between Leo's childhood on the streets of Harlem and his arrival into the intoxicating world of the theater lies a wilderness of desire and loss, shame and rage. An adored older brother vanishes into prison. There are love affairs with a white woman and a younger black man, each of whom will make irresistible claims on Leo's loyalty.Â
---ESSAYS---
Baldwin essay collection. Including most famously: notes of a native son, nobody knows my name, the fire next time, no name in the street, the devil finds work- baldwin on film
--DOCUMENTARIES--
Take this hammer, a tour of san Francisco.
Meeting the man
--DEBATES:--
Debate with Malcolm x, 1963 ( on integration, the nation of islam, and other topics. )
Debate with William Buckley, 1965. ( historic debate in america. )
Heavily moderated debate with Malcolm x, Charles Eric Lincoln, and Samuel Schyle 1961. (Primarily Malcolm X's debate on behalf of the nation of islam, with Baldwin giving occassional inputs.)
----
apart from themes obvious in the book's descriptions, a general heads up for themes of incest and sexual assault throughout his works.

Abgeschnitten (Film) - ein paar Fragen
Hab gestern "Abgeschnitten" im Kino gesehen. Erster Eindruck: Gute Unterhaltung! Spannend, ein schöner Thriller.
Aber je mehr ich darĂŒber nachdenke, desto gröĂer werden die Logiklöcher. Aber vielleicht kann ja einer von Euch sie stopfen.. (Also Obacht: Spoiler đ)
Jens hatte keine Möglichkeit zu ĂŒberprĂŒfen, was Paul macht!

Ok I know you have a lot of asks and all that but I kind of have a dumb theory but I just wanna share it, with the last ask you just answers about learning a lesson from the story, I have a feeling itâs along the lines of communication is important to make things happen?? Like I know itâs probably not close but I donât know I just wanted to share lol
Anonymous said:I think we all thought Jungkook had romantic feelings for her because of the way he is so open and honest about his attraction towards her and so in tune with her thoughts, wants, and sometimes her feelings. We really bamboozled ourselves, but that just means that you're a great writer who got us so emotionally invested in your work, so kudos to you Lu!!!!
soporbooktubers said:Everyone must think it's a twist because there are so many romanticized fuckboys out there that we actually expected Jk to be a little cinnamon roll on the inside and sometimes his acts were really sweet. But anyways, New Rules is my favourite one, I just find it so easy to really see myself there and I feel everything so intensely! I loved it, as always
Anonymous said:my guess for new rules is either a. this is some misunderstanding n theyll get together after smth dramatic (unlikely n i dont rly believe this but im a romantic at heart n i love love so im humoring myself) or b. jk rly isnt into her like that, oc moves on/finds someone who respects her, nd jk ends up the token male best friend every girl deserves (THIS is the one i actually believe lolol)
Anonymous said:its r nice to see jk totally uninterested in relationships but still an actually decent guy bc p much all of the guys in my life that ive been "friends" with always had an ulterior motive, and it's nice to see he... doesnt? ive learned to tell who is like that by now but pretty much every guy ive been friends w except a select few (none past 14yrs) were only nice and agreed w me on stuff bc they wanted to date or sleep w me so seeing jk in nr genuinely nice but not wanting to date is refreshing.
Anonymous said:tbh jungkook's actions are in the POV of the O/C so could i guess and say that her thinking he was "jealous" was her interpretation rather than his own actions?
Anonymous said:hyejin honestly seems kind of odd... maybe shes this ex of jungkook's? lolol im throwing this out there but we dont know much abt her other than that shes obv possessive of jk, comfortable around him, and judging by the one time he hugged her and the date, he seems at least kind of comfortable w her too. maybe she wants him back and feels entitled to him bc of some sort of history? im just throwing thoughts out there so dont pay me any miiiiind
Anonymous said:Wait but wasn't Jungkook jealous of reader and Hoseok nearly dating??? wtf???? i am confusion????
pinkluvbae said:I TOUGHT JK WAS JEALOUS OF Y/N & HOSEOK! WAS I WRONG???? WTFFFFFF (sorry my terrible english, iâm tryin to improve it) đ
Anonymous said:Welp time to fight Jungcock- even if he didn't feel the same way as MC does (which I think he does he's just too pussy and stupid to realize it), the way he handled it was immature and cruel. He could have talked it out calmly instead of mocking her and all that shit, especially since he knows about what Suckjin did. It takes like 2 seconds to calmly reject someone without making them feel like a joke, like what the shit man???
Anonymous said:I'm really reallyyy curious about jungkook's past story, even more after his reaction this chapter with the slightly mention of a compromising relationship, that plus his ex girlfriend and the "don't leave me like her", somethig happend that the boy don't believe in relationships and I'm CURIOUS
Anonymous said:NR Jungkook must be a mess on the inside.....
Anonymous said:I don't know about jungkook's feeling for the OC, i know he likes her and it doens't necessarily means in a romantic way, buuut what I want to know is what happened to him in the past for him to have his convictions and ideals about relationships
Anonymous said:Am I the only one not surprised or mad at jungkook for his actions? He was always pretty clear about his thoughts and feelings.I am curious tho, to why he got so defensive, he was really feeling betrayed when he thought about the possibility of OC being in love with him, so for me the focus on this part was: what happend in the past to make him think that way, be the way he is? (nothing wrong with the way he thinks btw, just his defensiveness and "betrayed feeling" that catch my attention)

He was so upset at him because he knew he "likes" mc... bruhhh u got me messed
Anonymous said:I donât wanna be that person but................... if jungkook doesnât like oc then why he was so jealous when she was with hoseok? was it because their exclusive agreement only?
Thank you guys so much for your very real thoughts and questions about Jungkookâs behavior and the fic as a whole! this was on my list of small but definite things that make me happy and i love and appreciate you all

Megapost on the Martin / Ben thing*
Anna:Â *and Iâm really hoping this is truly going to be the last post Iâll put up about this.
I realise you ladies and gentlemen want to discuss this, but, as someone who is a very big fan of the show and wasnât at all happy with the way part of the fandom attacked Gatiss and Moffat, as well as the cast of the show, itâs a subject that really brings me down. Hopefully you understand and this shall truly be the last post Iâll have to put up about this.
~*~
Nonny Nr. 1:Â Â Martin's inappropriate comments don't give Ben the right to criticize him like that. You can disagree politely without offending anyone as well.
Nonny Nr. 2:Â Â It really doesn't matter what Benedict's motivations were, Martin's comments were crap. And I cannot stand that fandom. As an actor, fan criticism comes with the terrority. If it's ruining anything for you, that's odd but keep it to yourself. He came off as immature there, and he has other times as well. I like both Martin and Ben, but both are flawed, and Martin was not good here.
Anna:Â Â I do not agree with either of you on Martinâs comments to be perfectly honest.
As I said in a previous post, I think artists who are on the receiving end of such vitriol, as the whole of the Sherlock team were after series 4, are entitled to speak their minds and defend their work if they so choose.
I actually think Martinâs initial statement:
â Freeman admitted that he struggled with the expectations that he was put under during the show. âBeing in that show, it is a mini-Beatles thing,â he explained. âPeopleâs expectations, some of itâs not fun any more. Itâs not a thing to be enjoyed, itâs a thing of: âYou better f***ing do this, otherwise youâre a c***.â Thatâs not fun any more.â âÂ
is pretty spot on.
We all know how part of the fandom reacted to series four. Â And I know Iâm not taking crazy pills, cause other Skeptics remember it as well:
Nonny Nr. 3:Â Â Someone even wrote a letter to a gay board Mark Gatiss is a member of asking them to banish him because he was "gay baiting" then denying the fandom the so obvious gay relationship between Sherlock and John. I don't think Martin was wrong saying a part of the fandom is to blame. I also think that, knowing the situation benedict is in, he better stop rubbing people the wrong way or they might "accidentally" refer to his own pathetic methods. My two cents.
MFA:Â Â Whatever motive BC had for talking trash (to make himself look good, IMO), his fans should not be deceived. BC must have early onset dementia since he cannot remember his own negative fan comments and reaction to Johnlock art/fic. Moftiss were labeled as queerbaiters. Amanda received death threats because Mary was a threat to Johnlock. MF has always complimented the explicit fan art. But him saying those fans ultimately took the fun out of it for him... that's unreasonable? Just venting.
Anna:Â And letâs not forget Louise Brealey and the attacks she was on the received end of on Twitter...
And as far as âpatheticâ goes, the next two Nonnies make some very interesting points:
Nonny Nr. 4:Â Â Talking about pathetic, Martin didn't have to wear a bride's veil on Graham Norton last week...or marry the first famewhore he met to stop people wondering if he's gay or not.
Nonny Nr. 5:Â Â WTF? pathetic remark? Isn't pathetic Sofailed's second name? Or maybe the super avant garde title of the sunnymarch produced biopic about her? Did he completely lost it? And to make his point, mister pathetic remark is on G. Norton show wearing a veil, I wonder if it is a custom made Valentino one as well .

2017- Top 7 (And 1)
Well as another year closes, so does another fantastic year in gaming. In fact, this could be one of the best in history!! You may say, Why only a Top 7 and there are two reasons. 1: Everyone does a Top 10 or Top 20, but nobody does just 7. It also makes the list more prestigious 2: Iâm lazy.Â
But I do give my biggest disappointment
Well lets get on with it.Â
Biggest Disappointment: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)
Now I know youâre shocked and youâre saying things like â This list is shit! BotW is the GOTY!â or âWHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTT how?!?!â Let me explain. I donât have the nostalgia for Nintendo that a majority of people have, so I can give a pretty non-biased opinion when it comes to Nintendo games. BotW is a decent game, but its not without its faults. Actually itâs a really bad Zelda game and an even worse âOpen-Worldâ game. Itâs an open world game made by people who havenât played one in a decade. However, most alarming is the story, or lack thereof. I know part of the charm in Zelda games is creating your own adventure, but I found almost zero motivation, especially in the early hours to even progress forward. BotW is vastly different from previous Zelda games and takes a lot of risks. Some paid and most didn't. The game is gorgeous for a launch game and being able to play it both on my tv and âon the goâ is also a huge plus. The biggest complaint though is the controls are complete ass ( NOTE: I did not play it with a Pro controller, but I understand its much better) I get that with the way the controller is designed you're limited to certain buttons, but some of the controls are so counter-intuitive, that I constantly found myself looking or thinking about which button did what rather than naturally doing it ( Iâve been playing videogames for 25 years, so its not a user error, its a design error). All in all, its a Fine game and a lot of people love it, but its not the best game of the year.. itâs not even the best game on the systemâŠ.
Number 7: Hellblade: Senuaâs Sacrifice (PS4)
Hellblade could be on this list for its impeccable sound design alone. Seriously, play this game in the dark with a good headset. While there is combat, the game is not predicated on heavy combat, its more about the deeply personal story told with a Norse mythology backdrop. The puzzles are simple, but unique. The game also looks incredible. The voice acting is superb. In a gaming environment littered with so many open-world games, a well-designed, linear story-driven game is great palette cleanser. Seriously, check this game out.Â
Number 6: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (Xbox One)
This is in no way a political post, but in the current state of the United States, a game about killing Nazis is so refreshing. It also helps that its actually a really great game. While I do think The New Order is a more meaty, complete story and game, The New Colossus has more jaw dropping âHOLY SHIT!â & âWTF!â moments than any game Iâve played in the last 7-8 years. The game knows what it is and it excels greatly. The game takes some really creative plot twists. BJ isnât just some standard FPS goon that murders Nazis ( well HE is that too, but you learn more about his past and find a very human side to him). Its also go violent and so satisfying taking an ax to the face of a Nazi. MY biggest gripe is right when the game really starts hitting its stride, it just sortâve ends. You can go back and revisit previous locations to take of Ubercommanders, but unless you just want more of the same, there is no real incentive to so. Iâm really looking forward a 3rd(4th?) chapter in this Wolfenstein story.
Number 5: Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)
Iâm not the biggest Mario fan and like I said above, I donât have the nostalgia for Nintendo. As a person, who thinks Mario 64 is way over-rated and is a sub-par game, but loves Mario Galaxy, my biggest concern going in was that this was going to be more like 64. To my surprise, after getting used to the sensitivity of the controls, I found my self REALLY enjoying the game and constantly looking for moons to collect, even when I had enough to move on to the next world. The game is set up in a way to encourage you to revisit worlds even after youâve beaten the game. I found it to be relatively short for a Mario game, but honestly there is enough there even if you donât want to 100% the game. Cappy is a new and fresh introduction to Mario that the franchise really needed.Â
Number 4: Prey (XBONE)Â
Man I have to admit something about Prey. I played the demo and didnât like it. Finally played the full game and for the first 2 hours thought it was kinda dull, but I knew there was something there and I kept on playing and boy am I glad I did. Prey is THE BEST game seemingly nobody played. I fault a lot of that to the failure to market it correctly. Prey is such a unique experience and a game that is so different from anything our there, it has to be played to fully comprehend it. In terms of gameplay, it doesnât reinvent the wheel but itâs one of those games that when I wasnât playing, itâs all I thought about. When I was playing, I just wanted to explore every nook and corner within Talos 1. It also has one of the most unique endings/twist to a game I've experienced in a long time. I donât want to dwell on too much because Iâll ramble into spoiler territory but do yourself a favor and PLAY this game!
Number 3: Injustice 2 (PS4)Â
As a massive DC fan and a massive Mortal Kombat, I was hotly anticipating I2, I was a little concerned with the gear system prior to release fearing it would cause imbalance (especially online) but it didnât for the most part. In a gaming world, where loot boxes are all the rage, I think NRS handled it fairly well. At the end of the day, I wish it was all just cosmetic because i rarely looked at the stat boost and just went with what i liked cosmetically. The story picks up following the events of the first game. Its also very odd to me that NRS can make a better, more compelling story than Warner Bros can with their moviesâŠbut I digress. There are plethora of new and returning characters and all are different enough to fit your fighting preference. Some characters i wouldâve preferred over others, but all in all, I think its a very impressive roster. With different towers/multiverses rotating in various intervals, its a significant upgrade to the S.T.A.R labs challenges from the previous game. I put in over 100 hours and thats even before all the DLC characters are out. Â
Number 2: Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (PS4)
Being that Uncharted is one of my favorite gaming franchises, this should be no surprise. Goodbye Nathan Drake, Hello supporting cast! With Nathan Drakes adventures âcompletedâ, I am all for more Uncharted with side stories for supporting cast. (Young Sully next please). Chloe (being absent from Uncharted 4) and Nadine (being a villain in Uncharted 4) is an interesting tag team set up. Personalities clash and deception and lying is ever present as youâd expect. As per the status quo from Naughty Dog, the game is graphically top notch and the mo-cap and voice acting is superb. There are several nods to previous games and even an appearance by a certain character. The game is shorter than previous Uncharted games and its honestly the perfect length for this style of story an price tag. More Uncharted is always a good thing!
Honorable Mentions: Pyre(PC), & Metroid: Samus Returns(3DS)Â
Number 1: Horizon Zero Dawn(PS4)
Man, what can I say about HZD that hasnât been covered before. From the first trailer I saw, I had an expectation of what I wanted from this game and its surpassed it ten fold. An achievement in and of itself these days. There are a lot of great open -world games out there, but one of the biggest issues with all this open-world-ness is that story gets dumbed down or sacrificed ( see Breath of the Wild). Horizon Zero Dawn has a really great story that keeps you going adn trying to figure out âWhat is Zero Dawn?â Trying to uncover all the little secrets is so much fun, the collectibles make you explore this gigantic world. The (post-apocalyptic) )world never feels empty or barren ( unless that was the intention) Even the side quests feel meaningful for the most part. There is a lot going on in this game, but its all organized and presented together well. My one gripe is that the game doesn't do a great job of telling you the differences and benefits to certain ammo types, youâre basically left to figure it out on your own. Fighting robot dinosaurs never gets old and with the addition of The Frozen Wilds, you get 3 new creatures and they are brutal as ever. Every fight with a Thunderjaw or a group of Scorchers feels meaningful and satisfying even when you hit level 60. While I donât think its fair to compare Breath of the Wild and Horizon Zero Dawn, they are often compared ad nauseum. I will say that in my opinion HZD did almost everything better than BotW in the things they both tried to accomplish. Horizon Zero Dawn is not only my favorite game on 2017, its made its way into my Top 5 favorite games of All-Time!
