This came to me in a vision this morning,

imagine mams and mc hanging out, their relationship has been established FOREVER AGO. and he does that dumb stretch thing where his arm wraps around mc’s shoulder and he goes “sooo… you got a boyfriend?”

Mc pauses and stares at him confused for a second, he IS their boyfriend what is he-… ohhh.

they giggle and decide to entertain him,

“mhm, he’s the greatest,”

“Aw man, do you like em?”

“of course I do,”

“Damn. how much?

“more than I could describe,”

They go back and forth like this for a while, it doesn’t take long before Mc realizes this may just be his way of getting complimented while also making them laugh, so at some point decide to mess with him,

“well, sometimes I don’t want him to be my boyfriend”

“haha yea- what”

He looks a bit panicked for a second as he turns his head to look at them, his voice dropping a bit as his face resembles that of a kicked dog,

“..really?”

“mhm, but that’s only when I wish he was my husband,”

”wh-… heEEYYY.”

he whines as he pulls them into a hug, his face flushing red as mc starts to giggling and wrap their arms around his torso,

“Excuse me sir, I feel like it was already established that I’m in a relationship,”

“yeah well forget about em.”

“hm, alright, if you want,”

And they lean their head up to start quickly peppering his face with kisses, which gets him to start giggling as well,

i've noticed just how often achilles' dragging of hector's corpse is framed mostly as an act of extreme disrespect, or only some brutal show of triumph. personally i think that's underselling both achilles' intention and what the trojans must be thinking as they watch it happen.

hector's corpse is divinely protected so it can't be damaged by the greeks after death; all that effectively happens in the iliad is that his body gets dirty. but under normal circumstances (and i'm not gonna impose realism on mythology, but the iliad is famously detailed when it comes to bodily trauma), the physical reality of dragging a corpse along stony ground for miles would be severe disfigurement and dismemberment. first the skin would wear off, then soft tissues, then extremities would start to detach. i think the iliad's original audience would be aware of that as an intended outcome.

achilles (who doesn't yet know that hector's body has been granted divine stasis) doesn't just want to parade his enemy's corpse around, he wants to tear it apart ("i only wish that this fury inside my heart would drive me to carve you to pieces and eat your flesh raw..."), he wants it to not resemble a human anymore. he wants hector's blood and flesh to circle the city of troy. he wants to make it impossible for hector's family to gather the pieces of him to cremate and that way hector's spirit won't find passage into the underworld. that's what the gods are preventing from happening, they're not just keeping the corpse pretty for priam to pick up later.

main take aways from Halloween (1978) rewatch:

outside of the fact that everyone who has sex is murdered by the narrative, this is a surprisingly chill portrayal of female sexuality? these teen girls are horny and actively enjoying Getting It On with their boytoys. no pushy boyfriends sneaking in through their bedroom windows--these ladies are taking the initiative to sneak out and GET SOME. one of them gets laid and then immediately orders her boyfriend to get her a beer. (yes she gets Slashered soon afterward, but so does the boyfriend so honestly, gender equality.) yes the Final Girl is the only one not having sex, but she's not bullied for that, nor are her friends slut shamed except possibly by being murdered by the narrative

actually the only character who is shown being morally condemned on-screen is michael myers. specifically FOR his violent overreaction to other people's sex lives. (people he is spying on). metaphorically, the villain is American Puritanism sticking its judgy nose into other people's business.

but actually the real villain is the doctor. guy's a judgemental, shaming, pathologizing asshole. and he's been in charge of michael's care since he was SIX YEARS OLD? kid never had a chance. i'd go on a killing spree too

also the parents. where are the parents? it's halloween night and all the teenage girls are home babysitting their younger siblings? come to think of it, michael's first victim was his own older sister, whom he killed while she was babysitting him. teen girls are really shouldering a labour burden here. maybe parentification is the true villain

side note: mike commits his first murder wearing a clown costume...which is never referenced again? his 'iconic' costume is a generic mask and wig and jumpsuit, when we coulda had a Killer Clown Michael Myers??? travesty

i like how the Final Girl and her friend casually smoke weed in her car. yeah she's an honor student and her friend is the sheriff's daughter. yeah they smoke weed. so what it's 1978

(to reiterate, mike is 21 and should be at the club. im not saying he shouldn't be rampaging, im saying it's sad that he broke out, tasted freedom for the first time in his life, and immediately snuck back into his childhood home to go rampaging. let's have a remake where he goes to a nightclub and has a few beers. maybe some slutty dancing. then rampage)

personally my favourite origin of the name 'batmobile' and such is that dick thought bats were a lame animal to base a whole persona off, so bruce suddenly started naming everything bat-whatever. batcave. batcomputer. batarangs. because yes it annoyed dick, but bruce could see his mouth twitching like it was fighting a smile it hadn't worn in a while. so bruce dug in more. everything he owned was bat-whatever. batshower. batfork. batteries. and eventually dick joins in. bruce's room is the batbedroom. alfred is the batbutler. and then what started as a stupid inside joke suddenly becomes real when bruce accidentally calls the car 'the batmobile' in front of the league but he can't admit it was a slip of the tongue so he stands his ground.
