Sorry if you're already over 50, I ran out of room (you're welcome to leave your thoughts in the tags or replies!)
If you're younger than 10, get the fuck off Tumblr. People are saying swears on here!

[EDIT: It's OK to vent a bit about negative feelings in the comments/tags, but if you're gonna talk about killing yourself, do me a favour and fucking don't]

Elders, seniors, "old people"... they are going through:
Witnessing their classmates, best friends, significant others, loved ones die at an unsettling pace.
Being isolated.
Experiencing frightening and invasive health issues.
Being reminded repeatedly in their daily lives that they are closer to dying than most people.
Wondering if they'll be abused in nursing homes.
Wondering if some day they'll get cancer or Alzheimers.
Their children and the younger generation treating them with impatience and as if they are stupid despite them living through generations of history.
Being completely disregarded and devalued by broader society.
Psychologically trying to work towards acceptance of age and deteriorating health.
Wondering if they'll end up in a nursing home with no visits from loved ones.
Ending up in a nursing home, often uprooted from where they've lived for years.
Being unable to live independently.
Becoming severely disabled
Being abused in private.
Being completely ignored by those they depend on for care.
Having to navigate wills for the first time and choosing what to give to whom, minding family member needs and dynamics in addition to legalese.
Being taken advantage of and scammed through technology and processes that confuse them.
Experiencing memory lapses and confusion, often alone.
Struggling to communicate.
Being treated and percieved as "outdated".
Having to quit jobs they've loved.
Sometimes coming to the realization that they're not able to take care of their pet.
Experiencing losing their bladders and the embarrassment and shame that comes with it.
Having no mentors anymore.
The least we can do is listen, be patient, and not cast them aside. They have less time than most of us on this earth and they are choosing to spend some of it with us.

It has recently come to Algy's attention – and of course he is aware that he should have thought of this long, long ago – that some of the kind friends who follow his adventures do not see the colourful autumn landscapes of the wild west Highlands of Scotland in the same way as other followers. Algy realised that this environment, so rich in an array of varying russets, reds and greens, must look very different to friends with an alternative kind of vision.
So Algy requested his assistant to present his latest adventure without the use of colour, although he did stipulate just one special exception 😀 (And he reports that his assistant found that it was a considerable challenge which greatly enhanced her appreciation of photographers who work in black and white, especially with a subject so rich in the small details of vegetation!)
As he rested pensively on the banks of the trickling burn, Algy began to think in more detail about how his adventures might be viewed and, knowing that quite a few of his friends were a wee bit past their first youth, he understood that the question of sight in general might well be an issue for some. Of course the challenges that deteriorating or impaired eyesight present are entirely different from the condition of colourblindness, but nevertheless raised questions in Algy's mind about what his different friends might actually see in the photographic records of his adventures.
So for all those friends who see colour in a different way, Algy has persuaded his assistant to produce this alternative photographic rendition of his local landscape today.
And for those friends whose vision overall may be limited, problematic, or a serious concern for the future, he offers this famous poem from several centuries ago, although he is quite sure that most will remain determined to do far more than just stand and wait 😀
When I consider how my light is spent,    Ere half my days, in this dark world and wide,    And that one Talent which is death to hide    Lodged with me useless, though my Soul more bent To serve therewith my Maker, and present    My true account, lest he returning chide;    “Doth God exact day-labour, light denied?”    I fondly ask. But patience, to prevent That murmur, soon replies, “God doth not need    Either man’s work or his own gifts; who best    Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His state Is Kingly. Thousands at his bidding speed    And post o’er Land and Ocean without rest:    They also serve who only stand and wait.”
[Algy is quoting Sonnet 19: When I consider how my light is spent by the 17th century English poet John Milton.]

an under-appreciated joy of mid to late 20s is watching your friends starting to take care of themselves. we used to roll eyes at wellness together but now you tell me that you want to get some glass jars for meal-prepping breakfast. another friend sends me a picture of her chia seed pudding: “i used that recipe from the reel you sent.” the friend that has taken up journaling tells me to junk-journal: “you will document every mundane day of your life; it will be nice to look back on when we are old.” all these women that you grew up with, being angry with the world and hurting yourself in the process, are now taking care of themselves not just in spite of the anger, but because of it. we are finding the little things that make us happy and engaging in self care that we used to scoff at, because loving and taking care of yourself is the most revolutionary act there is.

I'm still impacted by, "One day your parents picked you up for the last time".
And now I just read, "One day you played pretend outside for the last time with your friends as a kid and never realized it".

For individuals, demographics are absurd. None of us are an age, much less a range of them. We’re animals who live and work and have fun and do stuff. Eventually, we croak, but if we stay healthy we acquire wisdom and experience—and find ourselves more valuable over time. Yet we become less employable as we climb the high end of the demographic ladder, but not because we can’t do the work. It’s mostly because we look old and our tolerance for bullshit is low. Even our own, which is another bonus.
The final demographic
