Just realized something about Would You Fall In Love With Me Again…

So we’re all in agreement that the main reason Penelope asked Ody to move the bed was to show HIM that he hasn’t changed, that he’s still the man she loves and the man that loves her.

BUT I haven’t seen anyone talk about right before she asks him to move it:

“If that’s true, will you do me a favor? Just a moment of labor, that will bring me some peace.”

Idk about everyone else but at least for me, when she says “if that’s true” it seems to imply that she’s saying “if it’s true that your my husband, will you do this.” But Ody never once before this says that it’s him. When she asks, he only tells her how much he’s changed.

So what she is really saying is “if it’s true that you are not the same, will you move the bed?” Because if he does it, then he really isn’t her husband.

And the rest of the line still stands too- it would bring her peace because she’ll know for sure if he has changed.

Anyone ever think about how in I can't help but wonder Odysseus literally did everything he said he'd do for Telemachus 20 years ago

okay but Eurylochus literally guilting and low key trying to gaslight Odysseus into abandoning the men HE lost to Circe is some good ass foreshadowing

The thing that's really getting me is that the final lines in Epic is "I love you."

From the very first strings of Penelope's theme in The Horse and The Infant, Telemaches' theme being a mirror of his father's, to Polities's words being repeated again and again, the palpable LOVE in Epic is the driving force for Odysseus. Why he killed the infant, why he sacrificed his crew, why he endured all the horror and the tragedy.

Penelope is only in the very last few songs of the musical, but we have had so much build up of her theme and presence that we feel that we have known her all along, but she's not quite there, she's just out of reach to us and Odysseus.

The constant repetition of her theme, the electric fakeness of it in Suffering that shows it's not truly her, the strings playing when Odysseus refuses Circe. And then the full orchestra of The Challenge comes in and we see just how she's been waiting, waiting, waiting for him.

In the end, Odysseus just wanted to go home, to Ithaca, to that house that mirrored the city he sacked, to the son he never got to know, to the wife who broke her hands every night on the loom to buy him time, to hold them with hands stained with blood.

In the end, he's just a man, who traded the world to see his son and wife.

Tiresias the Prophet

Anybody else ungodly hyped for the underworld saga i've literally been listening to snippet song on repeat. Tiresias's voice is heavenly. i did research and Hera turned him into a woman because he hit snakes that were mating with a stick??? he's so goofy and real for that. i refuse to draw him as a haggard old man that voice and that backstory do not vibe with old man with beard.

Also if i ever did an animatic, his hair would be so fun because long hair like what I've given him would act like a living organism, swaying in the air and twirling like snakes.

side note - viv related stuff is dragging down my mental health so i'm going to indulge my epic fixation to feel better bc character design for greek gods is so fun

EPIC: The musical is such a great source of media. The characters are fucking well written, it’s such a genius and creative adaptation. The designs that every artist makes are chef kisses. And the music itself feels like it’s being sung to me by a chorus of angels right from my ears to my heart.

That’s it. That’s all that I wanted to talk about. EPIC is amazing.

Ok, I had the most mind breaking realization about WYFILWMA yesterday and I can't believe I haven't seen anyone else talk about it.

So, lets take it all the way back to the Troy Saga, with Full Speed Ahead. In the first (chorus?) where we hear 'waiting' for the first time, the third waiting ("Penelope's waiting for me") the word waiting has the same melody as the second waiting in Anticlea's/Penelope's waiting ( I cannot believe I didn't notice it with how many times I listened to the underworld), and it is their 'waiting' that Odysseus sings in WYFILWMA.

So what he sings in the last song both lyrically and melodically mirrors the waiting in full speed ahead back before he became the monster (again, the waiting thing has been here from the beginning AND I MISSED IT), but this time instead of 'for me' it is 'for love', because Ody no longer believe that he is the man Penelope is waiting for, that she is waiting for the idea of the man he used to be.

So when Penelope responds with her own chorus of waitings that ends with "for you" the 'for' being the same melody as 'Odysseus' in Different Beast, which is her acknowledging and accepting the monster he's become, and then 'for you' solidifying that it wasn't just love that she was waiting for, she could have found love somewhere else, she's been waiting for her husband, for Odysseus.

and THATS what makes the Just a Man reprise so powerful, because at the end of the day that is all he is, that is all he has ever been, is just a man who would (and did) trade the world to see his son and wife.

i think it's very interesting that every time we hear "where is he, where is the man..." (namely in legendary, hold them down, and odysseus) they're asking where odysseus is. where is the man who'll have you to wife/with whom you'll spend your life? it's odysseus. where is the man who can string this bow? also odysseus. in odysseus it's actually just them wondering where the hell he is lmao

Odysseus who did everything possible and impossible to get back to his family, who, realizing what he has done to accomplish such, was in doubt, and just so tired and here is his dearest love before him.
