Sometimes being disabled is lowkey humiliating…

I just stood up backstage during a rehersal for a show that opens in 6 days, and my back started hurting so bad I literally fell to my knees- I had to crawl into a nearby room and try to stretch it out the best I could. And now I am in the audience not participating in our first in theater run as a lead. (Thankfully I’m not in any songs just scenes)

Not only did these ppl see me literally crawl away after falling over from nothing, but I can’t even explain what happened cause I don’t even really know, and I just honestly don’t feel like explaining the details of my disabilities to 20 different ppl.

Arcane season 2 has me in my feels a bit so here is my (a disabled teen) poorly phrased rant:

It doesn’t make me feel any better when someone says I’m not broken. Or that there is nothing wrong with me. Because, though there is nothing wrong with BEING disabled, there is something wrong. There is something WRONG with my body. When I am told “there is nothing wrong with you, you don’t need to be fixed” all I can think, is that they don’t get it. Because there IS SOMETHING WRONG.

Viktor was one of the first disabled characters I truly could relate to because I get that. The wishing to be free of my disabilities and to do what everyone else can.

And yes accepting you’re disabled is good for you in the long run but also- you are allowed to hate what your body puts you through. It’s okay that I am disabled. It is okay to accept you are disabled. Being disabled isn’t a flaw. However I’m allowed to be angry at the fact I don’t get to live a normal life. I don’t need people telling me “there’s nothing wrong with me”. I am currently in college and am learning to right with my non dominant hand because I went on a carnival ride at 16 and my dominant wrist has never been the same and hurts to use. That is objectively something wrong, that is directly connected to my disabilities.

Yes there is nuance, and yes that phrase helps some people, And no I’m not saying everyone should want to be cured of any and all ailments. But what I am saying is just as much as ppl can not want a cure I’m allowed to want one.
