I've seen some posts confused about when Prodigy takes place compared to Picard or Lower Decks or something else, so here's a very simplified timeline of Star Trek's 24th century.

Let’s not forget this iconic little guy when it comes to Christmas. Bannakaffalatta who is referred to as their own gender (“ladies and gentlemen and Bannakaffalatta”), who insists they are called by their full name and not a nickname (“Can I just call you Banna?” “No. Bannakaffalatta.”) and is part of a suppressed minority who have fought for their right to marry (“You’re a cyborg?? You guys have more rights now! You can even get married!”)

And Bannakaffalatta bit the dust to save everyone else and I think that’s pretty iconic.

Edit: So many comments about Prodigy not being on here! Well, I am a Prodigy fan too. But I left it off because last I heard Netflix picked it up. Now I don’t have faith it will happen, but nonetheless there is at least one more season planned and maybe more.

On the other hand, even though the last seasons of discovery & lower decks haven’t finished airing, they both have planned end dates.

i found a copy of the voyage home novelization at the antique shop yesterday and um. my man was going through it

Trans woman Tuvok is killing me with the context of Tuvok's character already being someone who gave in to everything he ever fought against. Every act of rebellion retroactively looked upon as foolish if not actively damaging - especially in a way that props his father up as being wiser than he. His father was right to disown him for his teenage rejection of logic and he was right to compel him to join Starfleet though Tuvok was miserable in it. We know Tuvok was in a monastery when he had his pon farr and that meditation is a way to overcome it so I don't think it's a stretch to say that there's a chance Tuvok tried to do just that but ended up failing and so he took a wife (who her father chose). Tuvok obviously cares deeply about his wife and children and enjoys his career in Starfleet and his rejection of logic WOULD have been extremely bad for him had it continued but I do think it's significant that every path of aberrant independence is now looked down on by him as negative because with that context imagine how Tuvok might react to the idea that she might be a woman. Imagine if she expressed this to her father before and received pushback against it and so she bottled those feeling up. Her father was right before, about everything. Surely, he's right about this too. If she just keeps fighting against this desire (and desire is bad, isn't it? she shouldn't feel anything) her father's wisdom will eventually reveal itself and she'll be grateful she didn't rashly follow this whim. And years pass. And decades. And decades more. And then she's in the Delta quadrant and she doesn't have her children to be Father to or wife to be Husband to and her father isn't there to chastise his Only Son. And maybe...just maybe...she can finally sit down and explore why that 'whim' hasn't gone away.
