Book Haymitch says and does some really awful and unforgivable things throughout the trilogy but you know what? I will defend every single one of his crashouts in CF because IMAGINE. after 25 years of isolation, you have allowed yourself to care about two people. It is your job to protect these people.
And these just happen to be the two most self sacrificial, outwardly rebellious and filter less kids on the fucking planet that seem to literally be begging Snow to kill them and their entire families in the process.

I'd consider myself really good at reading the body language of dogs. I can be trusted to interpret whether a canine I'm petting enjoys the way I'm doing it. Like if this beastie in particular does not like being pap pap pap papped like bongo drums, I trust that He Will Let Me Know and this mistake was 100% on me. I trust my judgement and if I mistake your agitation for joy, I deserve to die by your teeth.

Uncomfortable facts of life:
Nobody's going to magically swoop in to rescue you. You can't just sit there and expect someone else to come save you. You have to get your shit together and do it yourself.
About 90% of the time, the "it" you have to do on your own is pushing yourself to walk up to someone else and use your words to say "hey I need help."
