obsessed with the Helena and Irving parallel and what it says about the aspects of our identity we think are fundamental (but aren't)...
Like Outie Irving assumes his Innie is just as radically anti-Lumon as he is. He assumes his hatred of Lumon is something ingrained in his personality! That's why he stays up at night drinking coffee and making paintings, because he hopes that when his innie dreams about the testing floor, he'll say "okay bet" and start exploring. That's what Outie Irving would do, after all. But he miscalculated! His hatred of Lumon isn't inherent--- his desire for meaning and art and spirituality is inherent. That's what his hatred for Lumon is built on. But in a world where there's no meaning outside of Lumon propaganda, of COURSE his innie would become ridiculously devoted to the company.
And Helena!! She is the corporation, that's her whole identity. She presumably assumed that Helly would be just as pro-Lumon as she is. But she miscalculated too! Her devotion to the company isn't inherent, her headstrong and entitled nature is what's inherent! And in a world where she's denied any agency whatsoever, that manifests as rebellion.
It's the same dynamic flipped on its head. They both sent their innies in there with opposite intentions--- one to take down the company, one feed the company's expansion--- only to realize that rebellion and devotion aren't inherent characteristics. Their innies have become the exact opposite of their outie selves, while still being exactly the same!! Because even though your personality is inherent, the values you hold are determined circumstantially. OUGH IT'S SO GOOD.

How about another round of Star Trek wheelspins?
Spin this wheel to see where you are.
Spin this wheel to see who you are with.
How is how is this situation going for you on a scale of 1-5 where 1 is you are a red shirt in a TOS episode?

Similitude does touch on these issues, that is true. I think I tend to skip that episode because it suffers from a classic case of "The ends justifies the means" that plagued Enterprise storylines past the Xindi attack. (The most thinly veiled analogy) Sim may present as the main character, but ultimately he is spare parts for Trip and we know from the opening scene how that will end.
I am not a fan of Archer's story arc being about how anything goes now. No one will truly reflect or change based on creating an entire human being.
Unlike Farscape, that kept the clone on board and there are just two Chrichton's now. With all the consequences and relationship problems that comes with it.
So I guess I have seen stories that have attempted to take this story on? But not very often. I got some good reading suggestions in the comments and I should rewatch Similtude to freshen up on my Archer hate.
A story I don't think I've ever read is the one told from the perspective of someone's clone.
I have read plenty of stories of people being cloned. We get to see the array of feelings that comes with being voluntary, or involuntary, cloned. But never a story where the person we follow, the main character we are supposed to be sympathizing with, is the clone.
How does it feel to be a copy of someone else? How does it feel to experience a possible rapid growth cycle and lose out on your childhood? Or, if it's a more realistic cloning scenario where the person grows up normally - how does it feel to constantly be compared to this other person that came before you? Do you look for your similarities or do you actively try to be different to establish your own identity? Will you seek out your predecessor or not? Will you tell people you meet you are a clone and how do they react? Do they see you as less than because of it?
That is a story I would like to explore.

Quick and easy recipe. All the ingredients you need are Burmese oyster sauce, dried cactus shreds, gently coddled crab that have rested in your fridge for 17 days and cottage cheese.
This is my quick recipe that takes 5 minutes. Start by caramelizing some onions.
