Carlos Huber, Arquiste, Live Interview
A live interview with Carlos Huber of Arquiste, in which the creative director of this admired independent brand talks about Almond Suede and Venice Rococo
We finally made it happen! A few days ago, Carlos Huber, founder of Arquiste, popped into my virtual studio for a long-overdue interview in which he chatted about his two new releases ā€” Calice Beckerā€™s Almond Suede and Rodrigo Flores-Rouxā€™s Venice Rococo ā€” as well as the position his brand occupies at the moment, the enduring impact of history on his work and whether perfume creation can ever beā€¦

MEGAPON!!! heā€™s so snazzyā€¦ my twink disco wife
the cord can move and acts like a tail. their actual body is the same plastic material as a megaphone, with ball joints and a midsection sooort of like a round accordion. lots of buttons that do all sorts of things!! she can speak on her own but he can also do the classic suck-up-shoot-out trick whenever useful.
their face can emote and their lips can move!! eyebrows are sometimes a thing for funnies. usually he doesnā€™t move his lips while talking, mainly for kissing and pouting and whistling. I love meg on her own. but also theyā€™d have so much fun with a whole body I just know itā€¦.
flirty. loud!! fun loving. good at deescalating conflict and starting conversations. charismatic and knows how to make people laugh but much more anxious than he lets on. my megcanons. get it. like headcanons
voice is a bit louder than average and sounds crackly. blends between a masculine and feminine voice and often falls somewhere in between. sounds like a radio host. super boisterous laugh.
also: godpokeā€™s head goes up to his chin and vibianoā€™s head goes up to her shoulder . just saying :3
THIS IS NOT MY OC!!! THIS IS MEGAPON FROM GREAT GOD GROVE BY LIMBOLANE STUDIO!!!!

When there is a sassy and handsome man and you are obsessed with him. But he is a pirate captain and it's a problem. But oh you are obsessed with him and need to talk with someone. But you have no friends... But you are so obsessed and need to talk about it so much. So you talk with everyone who is around. Because you are obsessed.

2024 art summary.
I keep forgetting that I made that infamous Steamboat Mickey/Gatsby comic THIS year. It felt so much more longer. In any case, art picked up a more during the latter half, owed to Resh'an being my latest obsession. And also my comic coming out of hiatus.

Animated 4: Kronk's New Groove v The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kronk's New Groove {original-The Emperor's New Groove (2000)}
I love me some more Kronk
The Little Mermaid II {original-The Little Mermaid (1989)}
The Little Mermaid was my favorite Disney movie when I was little, so when my mom got me Little Mermaid II for Christmas I loved it almost as much as I loved the original! It follows the story of Melody, Ariel and Prince Eric's daughter, who (due to nefarious happenings shortly after her birth) has no idea her mother was a mermaid, and her journey to find out her heritage and why she's so drawn to the idea of life under the sea! I can still remember some of the songs, and while the animation isn't nearly as good, it's still a worthy sequel.
idk how the broader population feels about this movie but i watched it a TON on vhs as a kid. stan melody!!!!!

European Oak-Worship
ā€œWe have seen that long before the dawn of history Europe was covered with vast primaeval woods, which must have exercised a profound influence on the thought as well as on the life of our rude ancestors who dwelt dispersed under the gloomy shadow or in the open glades and clearings of the forest" (p. 350).
ā€œWhen Hatfield Moss [a peat-bog] in Yorkshire was drained, there were found in it trunks of oak a hundred feet long and as black as ebony. One giant actually measured a hundred and twenty feet in length, with a diameter of twelve feet at the root and six feet at the top. No such tree now exists in Europe" (p. 351).

ā€œThe evidence of classical writers proves that great oak forests still existed down to their time in various parts of Europe. Thus the Veneti on the Atlantic coast of Brittany made their flat-bottomed boats out of oak timber, of which, we are told, there was abundance in their country. Pliny informs us that, while the whole of Germany was covered with cool and shady woods, the loftiest trees were to be seen not far from the country of the Chauci, who inhabited the coast of the North Sea. Among these giants of the forest he speaks especially of the oaks which grew on the banks of two lakes. When the waves had undermined their roots, the oaks are said to have torn away great portions of the bank and floated like islands on the lakes" (p. 353).

ā€œ...[Pliny] speaks of the vast Hercynian wood of Germany as an oak forest, old as the world, untouched for ages, and passing wonderful in its immortality. So huge were the trees, he says, that when their roots met they were forced up above ground in the shape of arches, through which a troop of horse could ride as through an open gate" (p. 354).

"...with the Druids the growth of mistletoe on an oak was a sign that the tree was especially sacred; and the rarity of this featureā€”for mistletoe does not commonly grow on oaksā€”would enhance the sanctity and mystery of the tree. For it is the strange, the wonderful, the rare, not the familiar and commonplace, which excites the religious emotions of mankind.... Thus among the Celts of Gaul the Druids esteemed nothing more sacred than the mistletoe and the oak on which it grew; they chose groves of oaks for the scene of their solemn service, and they performed none of their rites without oak leaves. ā€˜The Celts,ā€™ says a Greek writer, ā€˜worship Zeus, and the Celtic image of Zeus is a tall oakā€™"" (p. 358; p. 362).

"Perhaps the oldest and certainly one of the most famous sanctuaries in Greece was that of Dodona, where Zeus was revered in the oracular oak. The thunder-storms which are said to rage at Dodona more frequently than anywhere else in Europe, would render the spot a fitting home for the god whose voice was heard alike in the rustling of the oak leaves and in the crash of thunderā€ (p. 358).

ā€œOn the rivulet Micksy, between the governments of Pskov and Livonia in Russia, there stood a stunted, withered, but holy oak, which received the homage of the neighbouring peasantry down at least to 1874. An eyewitness has described the ceremonies. He found a great crowd of people, chiefly Esthonians of the Greek Church, assembled with their families about the tree, all dressed in gala costume. Some of them had brought wax candles and were fastening them about the trunk and in the branches. Soon a priest arrived, and, having donned his sacred robes, proceeded to sing a canticle, such as is usually sung in the Orthodox Church in honour of saints. But instead of saying as usual, ā€˜Holy saint, pray the Lord for us,ā€™ he said, ā€˜Holy Oak Hallelujah, pray for us.ā€™ Then he incensed the tree all round. During the service the tapers on the oak were lighted, and the people, throwing themselves on the ground, adored the holy tree. When the pastor had retired, his flock remained till late at night, feasting, drinking, dancing, and lighting fresh tapers on the oak, till everybody was drunk and the proceedings ended in an orgy[!]ā€ (pp. 371-372).

You told me to choose my battles as I stare, heartbroken, at children who never had a choice.
You say that this isn't my hill to die on while we stand on a mountain of bodies on stolen land.
"This isn't our problem!" You scream as as sacred orchards are burned to the ground. Those who loved them have no tears left to cry.
I mourn for I land I've never seen and people I've never met. I weep for the young and the old alike.
And I will not give up on fighting for the living, no matter how useless, or meaningless you claim it to be.
