Millions of solar panels are piling up in warehouses across the Continent because of a manufacturing battle in China, where cut-throat competition has driven the world’s biggest panel-makers to expand production far faster than they can be installed.
The supply glut has caused solar panel prices to halve. This sounds like great news for the EU, which recently pledged to triple its solar power capacity to 672 gigawatts by 2030. That’s roughly equivalent to 200 large nuclear power stations.
In reality, though, it has caused a crisis. Under the EU’s “Green Deal Industrial Plan”, 40pc of the panels to be spread across European fields and roofs were meant to be made by European manufacturers.
However, the influx of cheap Chinese alternatives means that instead of tooling up, manufacturers are pulling out of the market or becoming insolvent. Last year 97pc of the solar panels installed across Europe came from China.[...]
The best estimates suggest that about 90 gigawatts worth of solar panels are stashed around Europe. That solar power capacity roughly equates to 25 large nuclear power stations the size of Hinkley Point C.[...]
The sheer scale of the problem was revealed in a recent report from the International Energy Agency (IEA).
It warned that although the world was installing at record rates of around 400 gigawatts a year, manufacturing capacity was growing far faster.
By the end of this year solar panel factories, mostly in China, will be capable of churning out 1,100 gigawatts a year – nearly three times more than the world is ready [sic] for. For comparison, that’s about 11 times [!!!!] the UK’s entire generating capacity.
For some solar power installers, it’s a dream come true. Sagar Adani is building solar farms across India’s deserts, with 54 in operation and another 12 being built.
His company, Adani Green Energy, is constructing one solar farm so large that it will cover an area five times the size of Paris and have a capacity of 30 gigawatts – equal to a third of the UK’s entire generating capacity.
“I am installing tens of millions of solar panels across these projects,” says Adani. “Almost all of them will have been imported from China. There is nowhere else that can supply them in such numbers or at such prices.
“China saw the opportunity before others, it looked forward to what the world is going to set up 10 years on. And because they scaled up in the way they did, they were able to reduce costs substantially as well.”
That scaling up meant the capital cost of installing solar power fell from around £1.25m per megawatt of generating capacity in 2015 to around £600,000 today – a decrease of more than 50pc – making it cheaper than almost any other form of generation, including wind.[...]
“Up to 2012 there was a healthy looking European solar panel industry but it was actually very reliant on subsidies and preferential treatment.
“But then European governments and other customers started buying from China because their products were so much cheaper. And China still has cheap labour and cheap energy plus a massive domestic market. It’s hard to see Europe recovering from those disadvantages.”
Trying sososo hard to make this sound like a bad thing [23 Mar 24]

While he received reconstructive surgeries, he could not receive treatment to his damaged nerves and tissues to to a lack of medical resources. He requires extensive treatment and possibly an ankle transplant abroad.  (https://gofund.me/433864df) (vetted by 90-ghost) ($325 USD raised of $20K target)

Summer Shadows(Camp Slasher Au) Welcome to Camp Paradis!
Tumblr media
Levi Ackerman x reader(eventual)
Warnings- late 90’s, Levi and Mikasa are cousins, Levi sorta hates you
Summary- Camp Paradis is back in session after being closed for the past 30 years after the murder of 17 attendees. But that’s OBVIOUSLY not going to happen again!!!
Wc-2.1k
-
It’s too fucking hot for this shit
That's what was running through Levi’s head as he carried his two duffle bags through the sea of parents and children coming into Camp Paradis.
Fucking summer camp, last time I let Erwin convince me to do this
“This is your fault,” Mikasa says next to him, her suitcase hitting her ankles almost every step. “If you hadn’t lost your job, then that shitty apartment we wouldn’t-.”
“Hey, brat.” He stopped and glared at her. “Do you ever shut the fuck up?”
“I hate you.” She stomped off to the check-in and Levi let out a ‘tch’.
He walked over to where counselors were supposed to meet up when large hands clapped on his shoulders.
“Levi!” He knew the voice instantly and sighed deeply.
“Erwin.” The blonde moved in front of him, he had that stupid smile on his face. It was his first year as head counselor and Levi already knew he was overly excited. Just like he was when he was Valedictorian for his high school and college class, the best football player in both, and one of the smartest. While still being the kindest guy there was. Someone Levi could call his (best)friend.
“I'm glad you’re here, let me tell you what cabin you’re being assigned.” Erwin looked at his clipboard and flipped through it. “Ackerman. Ackerman. Acker- ah okay you’re going to be In charge of Cabin G with 10 boys from ages 8 to 16.” Erwin points to the cabin far away. “Oh, and that cabin is next to a girl's cabin so you will have to keep an eye out a bit more often.”
“Great, as if just having to keep them alive for the next two months won't be hard enough.”
“Hey come on, lighten up.” Levi rolled his eyes and turned his body to walk away but Erwin spoke again. “Made sure Mikasa is in the girl's cabin next to yours.”
“Tch. Why would you do that?”
“Because she’s your family and you care about her. Regardless of whatever hatred there is between you two.” Levi said nothing and did nothing. Just stared at his friend and walked away.
-
Two steps into the cabin Levi knew what the first job the kids were going to be doing was. It was disgustingly filthy. He didn’t even want to throw his bags down.
There was a paper to his left on a counter that read
Camp Paradis Cabin G
Head Cabin Counselor: Levi Ackerman(23)
Assistant Cabin Counselor: Furlan Church(19)
Campers:
Armin Arlet(14)
Logan Beam(9)
Alexander Clarke(11)
Jean Kirstein(15)
Aloy Ramos(12)
Nicolas Shroud(16)
Connie Springer(15)
Jeremy Volantage(10)
Eren Yeager(15, watch closely, can be very troublesome)
Keiko Xu(8)
The rest of it was some rules and ways of communication.
Levi rubbed his face and pinched the bridge of his nose. Oh, he knew this wasn’t going to be good. Between the mix of a whole bunch of adolescent brats and 2 little kids. He’s not getting a moment's peace, but at least he’s getting paid.
He dropped his bags at the farthest bunk bed and grimaced at the dirt.
Did they not clean these beforehand?
“Hey!” A voice came from the entrance and Levi turned around. A guy with blonde hair and light gray eyes stood at the entrance waving at him. “Furlan Church and you are?”
“Ackerman.” The blonde cocked his head to the side.
“Oh Levi. Really? I thought you were a-.” The eyebrow raised from Levi told Furlan it was best to keep that thought to himself. “Anyways, campers should be coming in soon, so what bed are you taking?“
Levi looked at the bed he was standing by.
“Alright, guess I'll take this one.” Furlan tossed his bag on the bed by the main door.
-
Levi remembered during orientation for counselors that there was a storage closet with cleaning supplies. He grabbed the handle and pushed it down but just as he opened it, someone was coming out. Before he could step back, his forehead rammed into their chin and his chest bumped a whole bunch of supplies in their arms.
“Oh no I'm sorry, I should've watched where I was going.” Levi knew that voice. That irritating, grating voice. Looking up at her face confirmed his fears.
Y/n L/n. A total daddy’s girl with daddy's money. He went to school with you and the last time he saw you was high school graduation. He hated you. He always hated your stupid smile. He always hated how smart you were. He always hated how stupidly kind you were. He always hated how caring you were. He hated how you didn’t look any different you’re still so beautiful. Your stupid perfect hair hasn’t changed. He hated the stupid tank top you wore that matched your perfect skin beautifully. He hated those pretty shorts that he knew your ass looked great in.
He hated you
“Levi? Levi Ackerman holy shit you’re here!” You say with a big smile and open your arms out wide. Dropping everything else in your arms. You stepped forward to hug him but he stepped back and out of reach making you stop. “Oh sorry.” You drop your arms but still keep a smile. “How have you been?
He stared at you and let out a huff.
“Fine. What the hell are you doing here? Didn’t see you at the orientation and this isn’t your usual setting.”
“I’ve been a counselor here for 3 years now so it’s not mandatory, it’s nice though.” You squatted down and started grabbing the things off the ground. Cleaning supplies Levi could see.
“Tch. Thought you’d be in Italy or some other country with your boyfriend.” That made you laugh, he squatted down and grabbed a bottle of cleaner.
“What boyfriend?”
“That rich guy-”
“Oh Sam!? Seriously? He was so obnoxious and not my type at all.” You stood back up and Levi followed. “I actually liked the whole camping thing and taking care of kids, it's nice. What Cabin are you in?’
“G.”
“Hey we’re neighbors, I'm in F as the Head. Guess that’s why I have Mikasa, she’s your cousin right?” He nodded and you pressed your lips together in a straight line. “Okay! I guess I’ll see you later. Bye, Levi.” You brushed past him and he was hit with the scent of your fruity perfume that made him turn his face to follow it. As he did his gray eyes trailed down to your ass.
-
The kids and parents were slowly starting to trickle in. Parents crying about letting their kids go, kids clinging to their parents, or the parent or kid who just wants to leave or stay to get away from each other.
In Levi’s cabin, the first boy to arrive was Armin Arlet and his grandfather. He was quiet and settled in quickly. Next was Jean Kirstein, he came in by himself and just by saying a few words. Levi could see this kid had an ego. Eren Yeager came in and Levi and even Furlan were curious about the kid. Armin and he seemed to be good friends since the blonde boy jumped up and ran to Eren screaming his name. Eren’s father came up to Levi and held out his hand.
“I'm Grisha Yeager and this is my wife, Carla, I'm assuming you're Levi.” Their hands met and it ended quickly. “I'm sure they have mentioned our son but trust me on this, my son is a menace, I'm saying he would start a revolution if he could.” Levi sucked in a breath and let it out.
“Sir, I can and will handle your son.” Grisha’s shoulders dropped.
This guy seems disciplined, maybe he is who Eren needs
“Thank you.” The man says and goes to Eren.
A long day. A long day indeed.
-
The last boy to come in was Keiko Xu. He was clutching his mother's hand tightly and his other arm held his stuffed puppy toy.
“Hey there!” Furlan approached them. “I'm Furlan and you are?” He looked down at the small boy.
“Keiko.” He says and he looks around the cabin and settles on Levi.
“Cool name, how about you choose a bed kid, we still have three available.” Keiko nodded and dropped his mother's hand. He looked around all the beds, the boys smiling and waving at him. He got closer to Levi and Keiko looked at him in slight fear and that glare wasn’t helping. Levi noticed how nervous the kid was and relaxed his face.
“Mmm, can I sleep here?” The small boy pointed to the bottom bed of the bunk next to Levi’s.
“Sure kid.” Keiko smiled and sat on the bed. His mother came over dropped his bags down and said her goodbyes. After she left, Furlan closed the door and Levi stood up.
“Alright brats.” He said loudly and the boys all looked up at him. “Get settled in, we’re leaving in 20 for the grand welcoming in the mess hall. Understood?”
“Yes sir?” Connie salutes and Levi rolls his eyes.
-
Furlan stood in front leading the group while Levi was in the back making sure none of them strayed. The boys were already becoming fast friends but Keiko was still shy and almost cried when Levi told him to leave his toy so it didn't get lost. But that also seemed to be the reason why Keiko stayed close to Levi, as some sort of protection and comfort Keiko found in such little time.
He kept looking around at all the people and some bumped into him making him stumble into Levi. In fear of falling, he grabbed Levi's hand and squeezed it tight. Levi’s eyes widened and tried to draw his hand back but Keiko wouldn’t let go. He just had to accept it.
He sat his group down and told them he would be in the back with the other councilors. There were refreshments and snacks that the adults were taking advantage of before the kids ate them all later. To Levi’s surprise, there was tea, it was in the bags but tea nonetheless. He grabbed a mug and the boiling kettle and started his tea.
He listened to bits and parts of it. Erwin’s overly happy voice was about to give him a headache.
Someone bumped his shoulder and pressed theirs against his due to the tight fit.
“Y/n.”
“Levi.” You smiled at him. “Can I ask you a question?”
“Mmm?” He took a sip.
“Do you hate me? Like have I done something to you in the past? I just feel like you don’t like me.” He side-eyes you and takes another sip.
“Sorry if I wasn’t so fucking bubbly and happy.” He spit and you scrunch your nose.
“Guess I have my answer.” You start to walk away and Levi rolls his head back and shoots his arm out to grab your elbow
“Wait brat.” He pulled you back next to him. “I don’t hate you.”
“Then you strongly dislike me when I haven’t done anything to you. Tell me why you hate me.” He rolled his eyes and stayed quiet. “Fine if you don’t want to tell me, why don’t we just start over, and then when you have fallen hopelessly in love with me, you will forget why you hated me at all.”
“Tch.” He shook his head and looked into his tea with a small smile.“In your dreams, but fine.” Keith Shadis, the director of the camp, was talking now about to close out.
“So after lunch, me and my girls were going to do arts and crafts, do you and your boys want to join us?” Levi thought for a moment and stared at his group. He’d known them for less than two hours and he could tell they would prefer to throw a football or play volleyball rather than arts and crafts. Well, Armin and Keiko seem like they would.
Fuck it
“Sure, I’ll bring them over.”
“Fun!” You say and elbow him.
-
There were no directors, no counselors, no campers in the courtyard due to all of them being in the mess hall.
Nobody knew of the man standing in the trees by the nurse's office.
Staring right through the window.
Staring right at Levi and Y/n.
-
A/n- first time writing something like this!!! Next chapter will have more Levi and Y/n and masked man lore. Lmk if anybody wants to be tagged for this.

‘Until death’: The Bedouin clan resisting violent settler displacement
The people of al-Muarrajat remain undeterred, even after a recent and disturbing settler threat on their lives.
Mughayer al-Deir, occupied West Bank – On January 23, the villagers of al-Muarrajat woke up to find three child-size burial mounds near their children’s school. The message was clear: Leave, or die.
According to Alia Mleihat, 27, from the village, the fake graves sent “intense fear, anxiety and terror” through the village – a group of 30 shepherding families, all related.
“The [graves] the settlers put in al-Muarrajat are a direct threat from these monsters [that] could be implemented today or tomorrow because whoever made them goes past the village every day,” she said.
But even after this latest settler threat on their lives, the people of al-Muarrajat are undeterred.
“Those who did this must be held accountable … we will remain steadfast on our land until death, this doesn’t frighten us,” added Alia.
“On the contrary, it calls on us to be even more steadfast.”

The last of the Bedouins
In a series of violent pogroms by settlers in the occupied West Bank’s Area C since the Israel-Hamas conflict started on October 7, nearly all the Bedouin villages east of Ramallah along the Allon Road – rough terrain seen as integral to annexation dreams of the Israeli right – were targets of forcible displacement by armed settlers, often wearing military uniforms.
Humanitarians on the ground at the time told Al Jazeera that five al-Muarrajat families left, with expectations of more to follow and that Mughayer al-Deir – situated even closer to Allon Road than al-Muarrajat – would go as well, completing the displacement of Palestinians in the area.
But, four months later, the people of al-Muarrajat and Mughayer al-Deir remain on their land.
According to leaders and members of these shepherding communities, they stayed despite dangers and restrictions to preserve their Bedouin way of life – and because they have nowhere else to go.
Ibrahim Mleihat, 58, known as “Abu Muhammad”, is the mukhtar, or chosen leader, of Mughayer al-Deir, about a 90-minute walk away from al-Muaarrajat on a hill with the Allon Road on one side and surrounded elsewhere by encroaching settlers, including the settlement of Ma’ale Mikhmas and the outpost of Mitzpe Dani.

Abu Muhammad described how things began to deteriorate in Mughayer al-Deir three years ago as settler outposts first appeared during the prior Israeli government headed by Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett.
As happened in Bedouin villages elsewhere in Area C – land under Israeli military control earmarked to be negotiated in future peace talks – the harassment the Mleihat villagers had experienced for years escalated after October 7.
Settlers began surveilling them with drones, using loudspeakers to shout profanities about Islam or to amplify sounds to scare away their flocks, said Abu Muhammad and his son, Ibrahim Mleihat, 37. Armed settlers attacked them and stopped them from grazing their sheep on land they had used for years, penning them in.
Settlers also attacked Mughayer al-Deir families when they tried to access their only water source down the road – a trip made necessary because Israeli authorities prohibited them from piping the water directly to their community.

‘We are the government’
In Mughayer al-Deir, organised settler attacks reached a peak on December 28, said Abu Muhammad and Ibrahim. That morning, dozens of armed settlers in military uniforms and covered faces came to the village, invading homes and telling Abu Muhammad the villagers had to leave.
“This is our area,” they declared.
“We will never leave,” Abu Muhammad replied.
When some villagers defended themselves in their homes, settlers shot at the ground towards Abu Muhammad and his sons. As the situation escalated, he called the police.
“Don’t bother calling police,” a security guard from a nearby illegal settlement – an alleged ringleader of the attacks – told Abu Muhammad. “We are the government.”
When the police arrived, the settlers claimed it was the Bedouins who had attacked them. Abu Muhammad and five of his sons were arrested.
“Why are you arresting us while they’re attacking us in our homes?” asked a cuffed Abu Muhammad.
They were taken to Ofer Prison, where they were beaten and kept in cold cells with no water or food for long stretches, they said.

Villagers have been forced to buy additional animal fodder because settlers have prevented animals from grazing on traditional lands [Al Jazeera staff]
‘Grazing everywhere we now can’t’
The material and psychological state of the Mughayer al-Deir and al-Muarrajat families is deteriorating as their isolation continues, more than four months into the war.
Threatened with confiscations by settlers and authorities if they graze their sheep on traditional lands, the villagers only leave their land to get water from down the road or to buy fodder, Abu Muhammad says.
Typically, the rainy winter season provides grass for flocks to graze, saving lots of money. But, he says, they still buy one tonne of animal fodder every other day because settlers prevent them from moving about to graze.
“And then the settlers come onto our lands with their flocks, grazing everywhere we can’t go,” he said.
These burdens during what should be the most lucrative time of year are compounded by the strain on the occupied West Bank’s economy, which is forcing Palestinian families to spend money on basics like rice and flour instead of the cheese, yoghurt and meat the shepherds sell.
To remain financially afloat, families in Mughayer al-Deir are turning to loans out of desperation.
“Every household here now has debts that exceed 30,000 shekels (about $8,240),” said Abu Muhammad, whose community lives without running water and very limited electricity.
Struggling with the day-to-day of leading the community through this crisis, “I can’t even think of the future,” he said.

The cost of surviving
The people in both Mughayer al-Deir and al-Muarrajat grapple with a lack of services on top of the economic situation.
Tumblr media
Until recently, Alia Mleihat held regular school lessons for children in al-Muarrajat [Al Jazeera staff]
Until recently, the school in al-Muarrajat, which Mughayer al-Deir children also attend, was closed in the period following the October 7 start of the war. Alia Mleihat – who was self-taught in high school before attending the Open University in Jerusalem – would hold lessons with village children using books donated by activists.
“As Palestinians, our weapon is knowledge … with knowledge, we can convey our voice to the world,” she said.
In the middle of January, the school started again, but the children still face frequent closures and risks getting to school. Three out of 30 children from Mughayer al-Deir have already dropped out.
With the other Bedouin villages near the Allon Road now deserted or, in cases like Wadi Siq, even occupied by Israeli settlers, the isolation has cast a pall over the two remaining communities.
The attacks and restrictions have been especially hard on children. Ibrahim Mleihat has six children between one and 12 years old.
“We try to lie to the children: ‘Don’t be afraid, they’ll go away,’” he said. “But our children know we’re lying. They can see it in our eyes.”
In Mughayer al-Deir, villagers describe how children often discuss “Ameer, Jad’oun and Omer”, the Israeli security officers of the nearby Ma’ale Mikhmas settlement and the Mitzpe Dani outpost.
“The children dream that the [security officers] will kill them or take them away,” said Abu Muhammad.
A mother in Mughayer al-Deir described her six-year-old daughter to aid workers as intelligent and eloquent until the last settler attack, which struck her largely silent and unable to spell words.
Even under the traumatic, economically crippling situation they find themselves in, the Mleihat of Mughayer al-Deir and al-Muarrajat say they will not leave.
Abu Muhammad has heard from displaced communities how bleak their prospects are, struggling like the former community in Ein Samiya did, torn apart and scattered across Area B.
Such communities have found it impossible to keep up with their livelihoods as shepherds, the only option being to sell their animals and find jobs as labourers – at a time in the occupied West Bank when roads are dangerous, Palestinians have their movement further restricted, and the economy is in shambles.
And while some other communities had land elsewhere to flee to, Abu Muhammad emphasises that they simply do not have anywhere else to go.
Tumblr media

Though separated by a 90-minute walk or 10-minute drive, the people of al-Muarrajat and Mughayer al-Deir have gone months without seeing each other because of the settlers; one of Alia’s relatives had their car torched by settlers when they attempted to visit Mughayer al-Deir.
However, the physically isolated villages remain in constant contact, supporting one another as the only communities that remain in the area – and as family.
“I talk to them nearly every day about what’s happening there,” said Alia of her Mughayer al-Deir relatives.
“They’re brave people who defended themselves and stuck to their land.”

5) Ranni
6) Rennala
7) Rellana
8) Moonrithyll
9) Finlay
10) Tiche
11) Alecto
12) Lansseax
13) Florissax
14) Sellen
15) Dolores
16) Therolina
17) Nepheli
18) Roderika
19) Fia
20) Vyke's Maiden
21, 22) Irina and Hyetta
23) that Finger Maiden who is found dead at Church of Anticipation
24) Enia
25) Tanith
26) Rya
27) Dancer of Ranah
28) Rakshasa
29) Tricia
30) Lhutel
31) Latenna
32) Phillia
33) non-respawning Albinauric woman behind Gaius' boss battle (it is still hysterical that she is the one who drops pants from his set btw fffkffkf)
34) Loretta
35) Adula
36) Leda
37) Freyja
38) Gloam-Eyed Queen
39) Romina
40) Hornsent Grandam
41, 42) Jolan and Anna
43) Hilde
44) Meera
45) Blue Dancer / Water Fairy
46) Devonia
47) Siluria
48) Formless Mother (?)
49) Metyr
50) Nanaya
51) Jori
52) Grandmother
53, 54) those Nox women whom puppetry originates from
55, 56) Aurelia and Aurelitte
57) the first Astrologer who discovered a Moon
58) Anastasia
59) Daedicar
60) Lanya
61) Lacrima
62) Boc's mother
63, 64, 65, 66) Gilika, Maggie, Margot and Marigga (named Demi-Human Queens)
67) Grana (it is a name of the one behind Witch Crown from cut content, but basically it is the woman among the portraits in Debate Parlour! I doubt this is Sellen because why would they keep face of enemy of the Academy?)
68) the woman whose body was used for Sellen to live in it again (she has Witch Crown too but it's crystal is not cracked like Sellen's, and given that 'witch' conspectus did exist.. yeah this is more likely a person another Seluvis's victim than not)
69) Millicent
70, 71, 72, 73) Mary, Maureen, Amy and Polianna (Millicent's sisters)
74) the sixth sister (there is a scarlet flower near Malenia but she is said to only bloom second time in her boss battle, and near that flower you find the same set as what other two are wearing)
75) Greyoll
76) Eleonora
77) Bernahl's Maiden
78) Miriam
79) Arghanthy
80) Twinbird
81) Cleanrot Knight in Stillwater Cave (what makes her stand out is that you find the set Gowry wears here! otherwise this set doesn't have connection with Scarlet Rot (which this cave is filled with) but is simply a set of sorcerers that got kicked for herecy. maybe this cave is where Gowry did something with his glintstone to be able to possess any Kindred of Rot body, and perhaps she helped him with it?)
82) single Nox Swordstress as a boss in Sellia
83) a Black Knife with unique wounded model unlike any other of them in Deathtouched Catacombs
84) wife of Garris
85) Jar Bairn
Potentially:
86) there is 'Gaia' mentioned as someone who studied Gravity Magic along with Gaius, and apparently it is not mistranslation of Ogha. the only one it could be is his BOAR xD this name sounds feminine though, so maybe boar is a she?
87) Fortissax's gender is not confirmed; Japanese description doesn't have any pronouns at all, so English just said 'it'! However, Godrick monologues to the dead drake that they're "both relatives of the dragons", which could be literal considering Godwyn and Fortissax were so close 🤔
88) Eiglay (Eglė is "the Queen of the Serpents" in Lithuanian folklore, and I don't think you need me to tell you the two names are similar ahahah)
89) Asimi (cut content but Mimic Tear was supposed to be the girl who bonded with us first, it is hard to tell whether we can count the final one as Asimi or not)
90, 91) two 'female' Mimic Tears from four of these hostile NPCs (I feel like Silverfolk origin for Tarnished descends from Silver Tears rather than Albinaurics, so they can become solid people! these two perhaps are just fleshed out in this form at this rate! these do respawn though, so it is hard to tell if they count, or if this is actually their gender and not just mimicry)
92) Miranda (in cut content it was the first floral Crucible known, for now this is the name of the big flowers, two of which are also Dungeon bosses! however, ALL of them are called 'Miranda flowers', so maybe the actual character Miranda whom flowers with the same name descended from is still palatable!)

Discharge Petition for H.R. 7152, the Civil Rights Act of 1964
Record Group 233: Records of the U.S. House of RepresentativesSeries: General Records
This item, H.R. 7152, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, faced strong opposition in the House Rules Committee. Howard Smith, Chairman of the committee, refused to schedule hearings for the bill. Emanuel Celler, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, attempted to use this discharge petition to move the bill out of committee without holding hearings. The petition failed to gain the required majority of Congress (218 signatures), but forced Chairman Smith to schedule hearings.
88th CONGRESS. House of Representatives No. 5 Motion to Discharge a Committee from the Consideration of a RESOLUTION (State whether bill, joint resolution, or resolution) December 9, 1963 To the Clerk of the House of Representatives: Pursuant to Clause 4 of Rule XXVII (see rule on page 7), I EMANUEL CELLER (Name of Member), move to discharge to the Commitee on RULES (Committee) from the consideration of the RESOLUTION; H. The U.S. Air Force (USAF) stealth bomber B-2 Spirit recently demonstrated a low-cost, air-released method to neutralize surface vessels during a QUICKSINK test in the Gulf of Mexico, near Eglin Air Base, Florida.
This capability is a response to an urgent need to quickly neutralize maritime threats in large expanses of the ocean around the world, USAF said in an official statement. No other details have been provided.
The QUICKSINK test, conducted in partnership with the U.S. Navy, involved a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber delivering the new capability as part of the second RIMPAC SINKEX exercise in July. The demonstration marks a fundamental advance in the naval warfare capabilities of the U.S. Air Force, highlighting a collaboration between the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), the U.S. Navy and industry partners.

"This technology ensures that the United States can defend its interests, maintain freedom of action and take the initiative in large maritime areas," said Colonel Matthew Caspers, Director of the AFRL Ammunition Board.
The AFRL Ammunition Board, based at Eglin Air Base, is involved in an ongoing Marine Weapons Program together with the U.S. Navy.
The tests take place amid the increase in Iran-backed Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. The U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) reported that from December 2023 to mid-February 2024, container transport in the region decreased by 90%. Despite U.S. and European countermeasures, including Operation Prosperity Guardian and the European Union's ASPIDES mission, the Houthis carried out more than 43 attacks between November 19 and March 23, resulting in increased security costs and insurance premiums.
