—Background 🗞️
Elias Drake-Thorne grew up in a gritty, crime-ridden neighborhood of New York City, an environment where survival demanded caution and sharp instincts. His family lived on the fringes of society, often struggling to make ends meet, but they instilled in Elias the importance of resilience and intelligence. The loss of his parents instilled a deep desire for justice, but unlike the flashy superheroes he saw on the news, Elias preferred to operate in the shadows.
His quiet and observant nature helped him navigate the dangers of the streets, but it also set him apart from others his age, who often resorted to louder, more aggressive means of coping.
Struggles in School:
Academically, Elias was never the best student. He found it hard to focus on traditional subjects that didn’t capture his interest. However, when it came to technology, engineering, and creative writing, he thrived. Teachers often noted that while Elias lacked discipline in some areas, he excelled when left to explore topics on his own terms.
He was the kind of student who would rather figure things out through hands-on experience than by reading textbooks. His self-directed learning led him to develop a keen understanding of technology and electronics, often repairing gadgets or inventing small devices for fun.
— | — | —
Career at Stark Industries:
Eventually, Elias’s natural talent with technology earned him a spot at Stark Industries as a tech consultant. Despite his unconventional academic background, his skill set made him an asset to the company. Elias was particularly valued for his ability to think outside the box, offering creative solutions to complex problems.
While he kept a low profile, preferring not to attract attention, he found satisfaction in contributing to projects that supported the Avengers and enhanced Stark’s technology. His job allowed him to quietly play a part in protecting the world, even if he was never on the front lines.
Passion for Writing:
Though technology became his career, Elias’s true love has always been storytelling. He developed a passion for writing early on, finding solace in crafting narratives that explored justice, corruption, and the complexities of human nature. In his free time, he began writing investigative pieces, focusing on the darker, hidden parts of New York’s criminal underworld.
His reserved nature made him an excellent investigator—people rarely noticed him, and he was adept at blending into the background. His articles, though often published anonymously or under pseudonyms, became a way for him to expose the truths others were too afraid to confront.

Okay, I already clocked that Lois was gonna find out that Clark was Superman, especially from the show promo with that clip of Clark telling Lois to hold on before he started to fly.
But just the thought of Lois feeling betrayed by Clark and thinking he straight up lied to her face during their interview, (ESPECIALLY with the new developments of their relationship this episode), fucking terrifies me.

Taken from the Season 2 episode "That Old Gang of Mine" which aired on UK Gold at 6.00pm on Sunday 2nd December 2001. When Lois & Clark was broadcast in the UK on BBC and UK Gold, the show was branded as just "The New Adventures of Superman" and the title in the intro was changed as a result. Other networks that aired the series, such as ITV, aired the show with it's original title.

Jon Kent (pretty much) Complete Reading Order
Compiled first for my personal use and tidied up for @jonkentweek ! Goes up to June 2024 and includes every appearance of this character that I could find. I used ComicVine's archive to track these down, which is both fallible and constantly being updated, so there might be some mistakes. Also, I did my best to highlight the occasions where Jon was a significant character in a story and to skip the ones that were just a non-speaking, one-panel cameo, but those were personal judgements and your mileage might vary.
Color key (and apologies for the eye strain): Red are issues in which Jon is a central character, not just a cameo, Blue are crossover events, Orange are stories that take place in alternate universes/are non canonical
Optional stuff you can read for historical context:
Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? (1997) a classic possible future story, which is, to my knowledge, the 1st time a character named Jon who is Superman’s kid appears
Son of Superman (1999) a self-contained, now AU, story about a teen Jon Kent, very classic 90s young adult comic with all the tropes that come with that, but enjoyable as the proto-iteration of Jon as an idea
Canon appearances start here
The Final Days of Superman crossover event: Superman (2011) 51-52, Batman/Superman (2013) 31-32, Action Comics (2011) 51-52, Superman/Wonder Woman (2013) 28-29 (This is the origin story of the Clark, Lois and Jon that the comics follow in Rebirth. Largely ignored by writers, as it was written to patch up New52 weirdness, but there are occasional references that might be confusing if you skip it completely.)
Convergence (2015) 5, 8
Superman: Lois and Clark (2015) 1-8 (Establishes Jon and his family in the DCU)
Superman (2016) 1-11, 13, 17-28, 30, 32-36, 38, 40-45, Special 1
Action Comics (2016) 957-972, 974-978, 980-983, 985, 987, 989-1000, 1002, 1005, 1016, 1022-1035, 1042, 1045-1048, 1050-1057, 1059-1060, Special 1, Annual 2023

Trinity (2016) 1-6, 16
Super Sons (2017) 1-16
Dark Nights: Metal (2017) 3, 6

DC Nation Presents Future State (2020) (intro, information and behind-the-scenes for Future State)
Future State: Superman of Metropolis (2021) 1-2 (Future State is another possible future, meaning that it’s not necessarily canon, but it takes place in the future of the main canon, not in a complete AU, like say, Dark Knights of Steel. Technically not necessary to understand main universe stories, but a few popular characters and characterizations were brought over to the main universe.)
Future State: Justice League (2021) 1-2
Future State: Superman/Wonder Woman (2021) 1-2
Future State: Kara Zor-el, Superwoman (2021) 1

Superman: Son of Kal-el (2021) 1-18, Annual 1
Shazam! (2021) 1
Superman Red and Blue (2021) 6 (in the short story The Special, but this mini series in general is cute and I recommend it)
Justice League vs. The Legion of Super-Heroes (2022) 1-6
Superman & Robin Special (2022) 1
DC’s Round Robin (2021) 2 (in the short story Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow)

Hi!!!!! ooo i know about the superchan already but i still wanna hear your thoughts and where you’re taking it!! And what’s “meet me at midnight”? :D <3
hi!!!! <33
ok sadly i have not made any progress with superchan 😭 but as of now the outline for the next chapter is jeongin attempting to track down superman for an interview despite it being impossible since this man does not want to be interviewed all while bonding with chan even though chan is trying to get him to drop the idea until they have a conversation that makes chan decide he'll let jeongin catch a break (yk usual lois lane and superman lore), jeongin does end up needing to be saved either before or after the interview (that's where im hand wavey on planning, might do the iconic helicopter save?). some later chapter ideas include: chan decides to give up the cape for a bit because he's convinced he's doing more harm than good. a general zod storyline with the intro of kara!felix (jeongin is definitely NOT jealous of the new handsome mystery blond in chans life, chan is suitably horrified by the implication); a batman chapter + a justice league intro. in general there's going to be a lot of mutual pining and some misunderstanding between jeongchan, where jeongin thinks chan doesn't see him that way but chan is just cagey because the secrecy and thinking jeongin only has heart eyes for superman. (also I do plan to have a spin off fic that's about felix and his first year on earth + ideas for the other characters)
meet me at midnight:
a seungchan paper towns au! seungmin is q and chan is margo, basic plot is that they're ex childhood best friends that drifted once they hit their teen years until one night chan invites seungmin out for some revenge pranks and just an overall night time adventure before he disappears the next day leading to seungmin & co attempting to find him
But if he did believe in miracles, he thinks that they weren’t these truly magical things that happened, they were often mundane occurrences that amounted to a wonderful personal meaning. So if miracles existed, he’d believe that his once in a lifetime miracle would be Christopher Chan Bang. Chan was Seungmin's first real friend. For a while there, he was his only friend.
#sorry for the long rambles about superchan but I do have many thoughts for that au djsadkjakjd#listentothelittlebird#🔮; you seek information#foolish writing

By 1938 Superman, you mean Jerry and Joe's Superman? Fine with me. I'll take that over Snyder's Sulkman. You're forgetting this is a teaser trailer. We haven't seen the full one yet. The whole point of seeing Superman bruised is to get people wondering "Who could do this to Superman?" That's how you get them interested. The public at large don't read Superman like we do. We've had decades of Characters like Deadpool, Thor, Wolverine, GotG etc. It's going to take a lot to get people into The Amazing Stranger from The Planet Krypton again. Gunn is doing everything he can. Supes is in the f*king logo intro for crying out loud! That's gotta put a smile on your face! And from what Ive seen, people are interested. Excited. I've seen people moved to tears by the trailer. People want a Superman movie.
And let's be real here. You think DC/WB is going to out of the blue just decide to toss a Lois Lane out the window? A character who has been a part of the Superman mythos since the beginning? Who'd they replace her with? Lori Lemaris? Look you know damn well that I love Superman and Wonder Woman. I wouldn't have followed you for near a decade if I didn't. But come on. You really want to see Diana just randomly pop up in the movie as Clark's main squeeze? That may get you and me in the theater but everyone else.
You're right. I don't understand. I don't understand how you can be a fan but never support anything new with the character. You didn't like CW'S Superman and Lois. You don't like My Adventures with Superman. You're not even the least bit excited for DCU Superman. I don't get it. I know you've wanted Clark to spend more time in space. Have you read Superman: Lost? Superman: Up in the Sky?
I'm not gonna pretend like I'm not nervous. Especially with these other heroes being in the mix. But I'm still optimistic. I still have HOPE. You gotta keep hoping. You might be surprised. For the first time in a long long long long time. Superman is the hero everybody's talking about. Not Batso. Not Spidey. SUPERMAN.
You're right. It's the 21 Century. It's also 2025. You're still holding on to 2011 Superman.
Woah! That's a long ask!
I'm not gonna answer every bit of it, which there are many parts you touched, because I don't want to sound like an infamous Lork fan, we all sadly remember, who used to post large walls of text. I don't want that.
When I refer to 1938 Supes I mean the structure, which hasn't changed: Smallville, Lois, The Planet, Metropolis, Luthor. What changed is Superman used to be a hero worried by social issues, who standed against the powerful in defense of the little man. I wish I've seen more of that. I wish I've seen some evolution of that Superman. Since he's trapped by the same format, the same vicious circle, he can't evolve. You've mentioned some Marvel heroes. Have you noticed those heroes went to outer space and other dimensions? Have you noticed Superman's only been in Metropolis and Smallville? The times he went around the World were mostly to rescue Lois from some shit she got herself into? Or to turn back time to resurrect who...? YES!: Lois!
Let's not forget the times he gave up his powers to be with her. Do you want to see more of that Superman? Me? Not so much.
People often throw in my face Snyder's Superman. I don't like Snyder's Superman. At all. The only "positive" thing is the absence of the red trunks, but only that. Not enough. The format was still the same as always. No evolution. Even worst: he made Batso defeat Kal-El. Yay!
You said people is expecting Superman. That Superman? Maybe. If DC/Warner would've done something to favor the evolution of the hero throughout the years, 86 years, people may be expecting something else, something more. They killed Superman so many times, people is expecting Superman to die at some point, so they won't ask: who could've done that to Superman? Answer: Anyone!
People is not stupid, unless treated like that. Back to Marvel: do you think the Multiverse or the Quantumverse are easy concepts? Yet, people understood and accepted them when presented in an exciting format they could digest. It didn't take them 86 years, only a few movies. DC/Warner didn't even try that with Superman. Remember "Back to the Future"? Oh, the intricacies of time travel and how well they presented them. And it was a comedy, for crying out loud!!! DC/Warner didn't even try that with Supes.
Only him floating around with Lane in his arms. Again: yay...!
What do you know? I made a wall of text after all! Sorry, I'm stopping now.

Thoughts on the new intro sequence for My Adventures?
Adore it.
youtube
More than anything shown so far, this perfectly captures the "anime Superman" aesthetic the show is going for. Quick thoughts:
Love the rock & roll theme, wish it had some catchy lyrics to go with it. All my favorite childhood cartoon themes like Ben 10 had catchy earworm themes that I can recall with ease because of how many times I heard them. Welcome reprieve from every Superman adaption going with an orchestral theme regardless.
Superman winking at the camera is enough to make a hardcore Superman fanboy cry. God we're finally getting a Clark who isn't a stick in the mud, and it feels so good.
Clark and Lois are so fucking cute together, and Jimmy's reaction is hilarious.
Again it sticks out to me that while Jor-El shows up, there's no onscreen showing of the Kents in the intro. Could they actually be dead in this show? Don't want to get my hopes up but it's starting to feel like an actual possibility
Cackled that all three of the trio have their own "anime power up" moves
And finally we have the big showing of the villains. Starting from the center and going clockwise it looks like the shadowed figure is Brainiac, the smaller figure in front is either a spoiler character from the leaks (AI Lara, who I've just realized is basically this show's take on Eradicator) or Zod, then Livewire, Mxy, some kaiju monster that might be Parasite (hope not, I don't want a technological Parasite), someone who could be Bloodsport, Deathstroke, or Atomic Skull, then Amanda Waller, generic Intergang thugs, Silver Banshee, a guy I don't know but I've seen others speculate is a minor Intergang bad guy called Rough House, and finally a guy I'm guessing is Metallo.
Like the Kents the biggest omission that stands out is no Lex. Doesn't bother me at all to not have him for the first season.
Regarding the villain designs, I love Mxy's. His comic design of just being a regular dude in a suit is terrible. A 5D sorcerer-imp should look much more demonic or at least otherworldly, so their redesign is welcome. Waller looks fine and if that is Bloodsport I like their take on his DCEU redesign. Silver Banshee and Livewire I'm not a fan of. Making them tech based is boring and a downgrade from how they look in the comics. I guess Livewire will also be a member of Intergang to justify the change and that I'm fine with.
Metallo, if that is him, looks New 52 inspired which isn't my favorite design but is a great story foundation for his character if that's what they're drawing on. With the focus on Clark & Lois' romance I'm wondering if Corben will start out as a rival for Clark's affections, and with Waller in the mix we might get General Sam Lane, Waller, and Metallo hunting Superman. That would make for great drama - Clark and Lois are in love, Lois' dad is hunting her boyfriend, the guy trying to kill Clark is also trying to woo Lois, could be great. Kinda wish we had a love quadrangle going on with Clark starting off dating Livewire and Lois with Metallo, before the two hook up and their supervillain exes target their rivals (Metallo going after Clark and Livewire going after Lois respectively) in retaliation
Man if that's Bloodsport I hope he kicks Clark's ass and gets to look cool. If it's Deathstroke I hope Supes utterly bodies him.
Funny how amongst all the major redesigns, that silhouette looks like we will be getting a fairly straightforward Brainiac take
Final big thought regarding Lex's absence. Originally this show was greenlit for two seasons, and I hope that's still the case. I could see this first season being about humanity trying to bridge the gap with Superman's natural powers via tech. Brainiac is the big bad to stand out as an evil counterpart of both Superman's alien power and humanity's tech based enhancements. Then in S2 Lex arrives and he starts experimenting with the metagene. Silver Banshee and Livewire get redesigned to be more like their comic selves cause they unlock their metagene powers, Parasite and Bizarro are created, basically we see the rise of the "supervillain" to contrast with S1 being aliens and tech enhanced organized crime.

The top 100 best Wonder Woman stories
Im going to preface this with the confession that this is not a list I am entirely satisfied with, with some titles on this which I stuck in because I felt they brought something interesting to the character of Wonder Woman or her mythology.
I will also heavily emphasize that I did not in any way, shape, or form attempt to organize this list from best to worst. This was the result of me spending days considering what stories across Wonder Womans portfolio warranted recognition and jotted them down as I went along.
Some time in the future I may revise this by either changing the selection, or perhaps someday I will be mad enough to try organizing it by level of quality. But for now...I present what I consider 100 of the best Wonder Woman stories.

Superman (1987)
Film review #556
Director: B. Gupta
SYNOPSIS: As the planet Krypton is about to be destroyed, the parents of a baby boy send him to Earth to escape the destruction. He lands in India and is raised by a couple who soon realise he has superhuman powers, but keep his powers a secret, naming him Shekhar. As an adult, he travels to the city in search of his childhood, Gita, while his old rival for Gita’s love, Verma, is a tycoon and super-villain who aims to become rich by causing a series of natural disasters across India and buying up the land cheap...
THOUGHTS/ANALYSIS: Superman is a 1987 Indian film and an unlicensed adaptation of the comic book superhero. This is not the first adaptation into Indian cinema either, with similar (unlicensed adaptations) in 1960 and 1980. The film’s story follows the typical Superman lore fairly accurately, as in the intro, we see the planet Krypton about to be destroyed, and a young baby boy being sent to earth as the only survivor. However, rather than landing in the rural U.S. as is canon, he instead lands in India, where a young couple find him and give him the name Shekhar. They soon learn he has superhuman powers, but tell him to keep them secret. When Shekhar is grown up, he heads to the city to find his childhood Gita, now working as a reporter (the “Lois Lane” of this version), while his old rival for Gita’s affections, Verma, is now a crime-lord who attempts to get rich by creating a series of natural disasters across India in order to buy the land up cheap (being the “Lex Luthor” of this film). The story, apart from being set in India, fits the established story quite well...a little too well, as it is essentially copying the 1978 Superman film point-for-point. The capsule which takes Superman to earth as a child is the exact shape as the one from the original film, but obviously made from silver foil rather than expensive (for the time) CG. Also, it straight up steals footage from the 1978 film’s ending, where Superman flies around the Earth so fast he turns back time, alongside using the John Williams theme is definitely has no permission for. As such, we can’t give the film too much credit for it’s story if it’s just taking it from an other successful film, but it follows the beats of the film fairly well. It also adds in some usual musical and dancing numbers, but these feel quite underwhelming compared to other films I’ve seen; almost like they were focused on making a Superman clone and had to add in musical numbers because that’s what Indian cinema does. Alongside this, they also use Michael Jackson’s “Beat it” in one dance scene, which again I’m pretty sure they did not have the rights to do so.
As mentioned, the characters from the Superman franchise are all recreated here quite faithfully, although being based in India rather than the U.S. Superman/Shekhar has Clark Kent’s naivety and Superman’s bravery, Gita has Lois Lane’s dogged determination, and Verma has Lex Luthor’s evil streak. We see the planet Krypton at the start of the film, adorned with a cheap set full of random coloured blocks, and there is also the fortress of solitude, where Superman goes to learn about his home planet, all loving recreated with nowhere near the budget of it’s Hollywood counterpart. Superman seems to have all of his powers such as super strength and flight, but also has telekinesis for some reason too, shown in a scene where he unwraps food and sets a table with his mind. The film has a decent mix of humour, action and drama, so it’s not uninteresting, although being released nearly ten years after the very successful film it is copying, I’m not sure if the audience would have already seen the original film subtitled or dubbed by that time. Nevertheless, I suppose it’s a pretty good adaptation of Superman, only because it is ripping off a good Superman film beat for beat. Otherwise, the obligatory dance and musical numbers are poor and uninspiring, and a bloated runtime of over two hours to incorporate more typical drama elements weighs the film down. The choreography, in both the musical numbers and the fight scenes is pretty dire, as you can obviously tell that none of the punches are connecting to anyone. Despite all this, it is still one of those films you really need to see to believe, so if your curiosity is piqued, then maybe you’d better put two hours aside to savour this cinematic wild ride.

Reading Break: The Wall Crawler, Steve Ditko, and the Silliness of Comic Books
As of my writing this, I’ve just passed issue #20 of the original Ditko/Lee ‘Amazing Spider-man’ run. I've gotta say, even six decades after the fact, the web head's early adventures still slap harder than a muscular dominatrix. I hadn’t read some of these since were being re-released in the 90's as ‘Spider-man Classics’, when I was also the perfect age to enjoy them without any irony. But truthfully, it’s not like I need too much irony to enjoy them now as an adult either; they really are just good fun.
Much of the credit rightly belongs to Steve Ditko, who manages to produce remarkably detailed panels, given how much smaller and condensed they are compared to what you’d get today (splash panels back then were for intro pages, and special issues only). Even his less exciting “talking head” panels effectively exhibit plenty of pathos, comic relief, and other visual gags. Likewise, Ditko’s action sequences are dynamic, with a very clear narrative flow that display Spider-man’s agility, speed, power, and (most importantly) his irreverent sense of humour.
The 60’s Spidey comics (and Marvel in general) are correctly remembered for their inter-connected narrative continuity, but I find people often discuss them with a “good for back then” caveat. They are recognized for their historical significance, but are often regarded as silly, by way of comparison to our modern standards and practices. But of course they’re silly, that’s a big part of what made Spider-man (along with a majority of the costumed heroes) a success. Yes, some of the hijinks Peter gets into are, indeed, remarkably dumb, but his cartoonish antics still have appropriately cartoonish consequences, based on the world as it’s presented on the page. The style might be old fashioned and tailored towards children, but the storytelling is strong nonetheless.
By way of comparison, during this same era, Superman’s own adventures involved getting transformed into a variety of animals via red kryptonite, fantasizing about banging his cousin, and otherwise just being bizarrely abusive to Lois Lane, but nothing ever really comes from any of it (although in some instances that's probably for the best, as evidenced below).
The rest of DC’s line-up weren’t much different in that regard, where preposterous things would happen, and then just be completely disregarded in the subsequent issue. At the same time, Marvel’s stories still wholeheartedly embraced the same campiness, but did so without sacrificing character development (albeit, sometimes very slow character development). For me, that's where Spider-man always struck the perfect balance of being tongue-in-cheek, without sacrificing the primary emotional stakes.
There was never a follow-up issue where Lois Lane deconstructs how cruel and unethical it was for Superman to implement the Fat-ray that turned her fat, without her knowledge or consent, although I kinda wish there was*. Meanwhile, in issue #17 of ASM, Peter switches back-and-forth into his Spidey suit mid-battle, in order dissuade Liz Allen’s observation that Peter and Spider-man are never in the same place at the same time (as if anyone would expect for them to be). The set up for both scenarios are equally contrived, but Spidey’s follows through by making Peter deal with the (not much less ridiculous) fallout for multiple issues down the line.
[*Honestly though, I would love a ‘not-too-dark comedy’ mini series that directly calls out some of Superman’s more brazen offenses and behaviour from the Silver age. Alas, DC would probably never allow it.]
Although, I do have to remind myself not to put these old stories on too high a pedestal. I’ve heard some people talk about the Spider-man books from this era (and Marvel in general) in regard to how they challenged the status quo, and engaged in social issues of the time. Those claims largely smack of reductionist fanboy/corporate propaganda, to me. I'm not saying there haven't been notable instances where creators and artists took risks, but those tend to be the exception rather than the rule. Historically Marvel has, perhaps, been more inclined than DC to push the boundaries of what was acceptable within the censorship guidelines set by ‘The Comics Code Authority’, but it would be a stretch to say their motives were exclusively altruistic.
Stan Lee has admitted that he typically wasn’t interested in challenging the Comics Code (as it wasn't particularly required for the stories he was trying to tell), and the in-series narratives during the Ditko/Lee run seem more-or-less happy to promote the commonly accepted pro-authoritarian biases of the times. It has been noted by others, that some of those sentiments were likely influenced by Ditko’s own staunch support for Ayn Rand’s ‘Objectivism’, (a philosophy to which I’ll admit I’m opposed), but even that wouldn’t become as prevalent until later in his career.
In the end, there’s no denying that Spider-man’s conception was lighting-in-a-bottle. Regardless of the political affiliations of the countless writers & artists who have written & illustrated him, Peter Parker has always just been a regular working class dude who tried to help people. His politics are expressed by protecting his community regardless of their background, and standing up for the little guy, no matter how powerful the adversary. Usually his motives come without much in the way of a personal agenda, but he can-and-sometimes-does act selfishly or make mistakes, and fucks-shit-up as a result. I think it’s this core tenant of fallibility has made Spider-man’s adventures ring a little more sincere for many fans, as opposed to characters like Superman or even Batman throughout various points of their own respective exploits.
Superman is regularly (although admittedly not always) portrayed as an unwavering ideological good; he is seldom allowed to be in-thewrong, even at times when it’s been very clear that his writers held… questionable views. Conversely, while Batman may be more psychologically complex, he’s certainly not universally relatable. But most people can relate to how hard it is to do the right thing (or even know what the "right" thing is) while struggling to make ends meet. And that's the point, Spider-man doesn’t always get it right, and things don’t always work out for him, but he keeps trying anyway.
Just like with us normal folk.
Also his costume is frickin’ rad. *THWIP*

A Better World (A kinder gentler tyranny)
[All images are owned by DC Comics and Warner Bros Discovery. I hope I’m too small-fry to sue...]
One of the classic tropes is the “evil” universe, where Our Heroes become Our Villains. Star Trek did it with Mirror Mirror (featuring Spock with a van dyke beard) and DC Comics did with Earth-3 (featuring the world’s lone super hero Lex Luthor)
However, what if Our Heroes are actually Our Heroes and decide to take things a bit too far “for your own good”? This was done in the Injustice video games (and companion comics/animated film) and is the basis for this week’s review. If you would like to watch it, it’s available on Max or behind your favorite paywall.

Roll the intro!
We return to the Watchtower, where J’onn is overseeing a team of people keeping an eye on the planet. Meanwhile, the President of the United States and Superman are having a discussion about allowing the election to happen.
Superman doesn’t think it’s a great idea (considering the last guy before the current one, I don’t think I blame him…not that I agree with him), so I guess no elections this year.
J’onn then hears a report of a protest in Smallville. Hawkgirl and John offer to go break it up (despite the police being on the scene). J’onn allows them to go, and…
The pair arrive as the police and protestors begin to escalate. Their presence causes the protestors to flee in panic.
Meanwhile, Superman has a dinner date with Lois Lane, and it’s definitely not all sunshine and roses with them.
Lois doesn’t approve of Superman’s “better world”. However, their quarrel is interrupted by Batman, who summons the whole team (The Justice Lords) to the Batcave.
Batman has found the “Prime” dimension (Oh c’mon, you knew this wasn’t the one we all know and love!) and has found a way to breach the barrier between their dimension and “ours”. The Justice Lords decide to journey to the Prime universe to help The Justice League defeat the evil plaguing their Earth (who says they’ll want your “help”?)
Back in the Prime universe, the League is battling Lex Luthor…
…who has a device capable of temporarily nullifying a being’s powers (how does that even work? I mean, DC canon says a number of super-powered beings have something called a “meta gene” that, when activated due to outside stressors, gives them superpowers based on the stressor. However, Superman Hawkgirl, and J’onn are aliens, Wonder Woman’s a demigod, John gets his powers from his ring, and Batman has no powers. That means the only one with a meta gene (and therefore the only one Luthor's device should affect) is the Flash)
Not that it matters, as the Flash takes it apart within a second and Wonder Woman lassos Luthor. As Flash cleans up the mess from the battle at super speed…
Lord J’onn (IMDb lists the members of the Justice Lords as “Lord XX”, so I’ll be using that designation, otherwise things will get confusing fast; additionally, I’m gonna start calling their universe the Lord-verse) steps through the portal and comes up with a bullshit reason for the Justice League to come to the Lord-verse.
Once across the portal, Lord J’onn traps the League in a cell…
…with electrified walls! However, Hawkgirl (likely due to her Thanagarian stubbornness) manages to hit the wall with her mace enough to breach it. However…
…John zaps her back down.
Back in the Prime-verse, a meteor crashes, and inside…
Oh SHIT!
Meet Doomsday, a creature who debuted in DC Comics in the early 90s in a storyline that decimated the Justice League (granted, this was at the tail end of the comedy era of the team) and he and Superman killed each other! (of course, this being comics, they both eventually came back)
Doomsday makes his way to Metropolis.
youtube
The press is all over the Justice Lords, believing them to be the League. Lois seems to be the only one who has issues with Superman’s heat vision lobotomy. When asked about their new attitude and outfits…
However, Lois isn’t the only one who sees through the Justice Lords’ bullshit.
Thus ends part one (most Justice League stories were two-part episodes) If you would like to see part two, just hit “next episode" on whatever service you’re watching (you may need to breach the paywall again)
(All videos in part 2 are courtesy of Blue Kryptonite)
We open on an island prison in Gotham with the League restrained in cells designed (no doubt by Lord Batman) to hold them.
youtube
Let’s see…sick criminals in Gotham…
Ah…right. The Justice League prepares to deal with the worst criminal scum the Lord-verse has to offer.
youtube
(Yes, that was Mark Hamill as a perfectly sane Joker. I checked.)
Meanwhile, at the Lord Batcave, Batman has arrived and is preparing to…I’m not entirely sure what he’s planning on doing with the dimensional portal. Not that it matters, since…
…Lord Batman is waiting. The two square off and are (obviously) evenly matched, so they attempt to out-philosophize each other.
Meanwhile, the rest of the League has their hands full with the Lord Superman robots.
Outside, Flash has to contend with the gardener, who is not happy he’s been picking flowers…
…Poison Ivy! Fortunately, she’s given up her eco-terrorist ways since Superman lobotomized her. Then a robot Lord Superman’s head lands at their feet and Flash realizes the time for subtlety is over.
Back at the Lord Batcave, the War of Words continues…
Ouch! That hit close to home!
…oh crap. Cue commercial!
youtube
Meanwhile, on the Watchtower, Lord J’onn receives word that Luthor has escaped (given he’s bribing the guards with SUVs, is anyone surprised?) Lord Superman is prepared to deal with him the same way he did with his Luthor. However…
Still, someone has to deal with him, so…
Lord Superman demands Luthor’s surrender. However…
Yep, “Luthor” was J’onn in disguise. With the Lords assembled, the League springs their trap.
However, just like before, Lord Hawkgirl, breaches the wall. Unlike before, John hesitates, allowing her time to destroy the device electrifying the cell before John finally knocks her out.
With the Justice Lords free, they go on the attack and pair off against their opposite numbers.
(That leaves the Flash and Batman free to help double team as needed, right?)
However, the League has another ace (no, not that one) up their sleeve.
youtube
With Luthor being given a clean slate. Where does he do now? I mean, you know he’ll eventually go back to trying to kill Superman, but in the meantime?
…oh crap.

Okay, a lot of these are films/serials and you definitely might have seen them, but in case you haven't:
The Adventures of Superman Radio Show from the 40s is so good and I highly recommend to any Superman fan. The US did join the war effort part way through so it is also quite an interesting historical artifact. Fair warning that in every third arc or so there is a solid amount of era typical anti-Indigenous and anti-Japanese racism, and a lot of really bad German accents.
You can listen to all of the surviving episodes on archive.org, and my favourite arc is Dr. Roebling and the Voice Machine. I recommend listening to even just that one itself. It's so good. The show itself is one of my absolute favourite depictions of Clark, Lois, Jimmy, and Perry.
Archive.org also has the Adventures of Superman serial from the early 50s, and the serial Superman from 1948 (which has a bunch of fun animated effects and flight scenes!). Also the unauthorized Return of Mr. Superman from India in 1960 is overall terrible, but the opening sequence is genuinely my favourite montage of Clark's youth, and Lois is pretty great in it too. Worth watching the first 20ish minutes.
Honestly, if I had to recommend one golden age Superman thing to watch (aside from the animated shorts) it would be his first feature film: Superman and the Mole Men. I love Phillis Coates' Lois, and the film is a really good anti-McCarthyism sci fi story. It really encapsulates what golden age Supes was all about.
---
In terms of comics, @superfam has a great intro primer on where you could start reading, and @januariat recently posted some recs of some newer runs too.
I really recommend Greg Rucka's recentish Lois Lane series, as well as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Superman: Lost.
The best Batman/Superman team up imo is their first appearance (Superman #76) and Steve Rude's 1990s World's Finest.
DC Recs?
After being a Superman fan for quite some time due to various TV shows and films, I've been getting more into some of his roots, as well as the wider DC Universe -- primarily comics and animated media, as well as some of the live-action adaptations. I'd love to hear about some more good stuff!
Characters and dynamics I'm most interested in:
Superman and the Superfam
Brainiac 5, and by extension the rest of the Legion of Superheroes
Batman, specifically with the Batfam
Superman and Batman together (can include Wonder Woman)
Other notes:
I prefer watching things over reading comics, but I understand that comics are where the bulk of the good stories are.
I do not care about comics accuracy if the story is good.
Help a gal out?
#anyway I know this is super Super-focused but that's what I can think of off the top of my head#comic recommendations#my rambles#superman

Was that ERICA DURANCE? Oh no no, that was just LOIS LANE, a CANON CHARACTER from SMALLVILLE/DC COMICS. They are THIRTY-EIGHT years old and ARE NOT aware that they are not actually from Washington DC. Too bad they can’t stray from this city for long. {ooc: angie, 26, gmt, she/her}
trigger warnings: cancer and death mention.
how long has your character been here
she has just arrived upon working on a story about the mythical magical parallel city of washington but has lost all memories of her real past.
what is your character's job
lois is an investigative reporter, pulitzer winner previously working for the daily planet and currently working for the biggest newspaper in the city.
where has your character been pulled from in their fandom
canon to post smallville, lois was living in metropolis and working at the daily planet as one of the best investigative reporters in the world. she was married to clark kent and mother to three children — jon kent of age 8 and two twin girls, lara and ella, of age 5 (but that can be adjusted if anyone applies for clark!). she was working on a story about this parallel city when she was ‘sucked’ into this new world.
has any magic affected your character
lois has no recollection of her past life or what she was working on. as far as she remembers, she lived her life the same way as in canon — being an army brat, going to smallville for a brief period before moving to washington for college and staying to build her career. there are a few gaps that she can’t yet make sense of.
WANTED CONNECTIONS: clark kent in any capacity, lucy lane & chloe sullivan!!, dc characters because that’s fun, fellow journalists who either are or not aware of the situation in place, friends, frenemies, friends with benefits, exes, enemies/targets she has exposed, army brat friends, etc.
HEADCANONS:
little run down for those who are not familiar: she talks a lot, initially can be seen as rude and insensitive but actually very compassionate and empathetic. loyal to a tee, too curious for her own good, always getting herself in trouble.
her dad is a three-star army general and they moved during all her childhood, both inside the country and abroad
her mother died from cancer when she was six years old, has one younger sister named lucy and their dad was very absent from their lives
allergic to cats and dogs
bisexual so any and all possible partners are accepted
failed her senior year of high school, needing to finish a semester when she was in smallville, kansas visiting her cousin chloe sullivan
studied journalism in metropolis university (but she now thinks it was in washington)
has won a pulitzer
could live off of coffee and donuts
