âIs that really how you are gonna act when someone literally just offered a donut?â Olenna asked as she watched the display in front of her, shaking her head. Now she wasnât a saint and she knew better than to walk around throwing bricks into glass houses. But even she would show some gratitude. Yes even if said gratitude was fake. Letting out a soft breath, she then shrugged. âYou do you thoughâ she waved her hand in the air and then turned her focus back onto the book she was reading.Â
lois was a disaster when it came to confrontations. she rarely backed down from one but she usually misread the situation altogether, overreacting and at times, assuming all the wrong things about the other personâs intentions. âwhy, you wanted it for yourself?â she was quick to counterpoint, furrowed eyebrows and a tilt of her head. without knowing what the otherâs reach was, lois took another bite all the while still looking at the woman. âexactly.â she said once she finished chewing. âbut maybe you need one too, to sweeten you a bit.â

closed starter // chloe && lois (@reporterlane)â
âthe state senator was not having an affair, the emails were from his secretary from his account to make him look bad,â chloe said as she sat down at her desk, dropping her notebook down in the process with a dissatisfied sigh. it wasnât good enough to write. nor was it the political intrigue she had envisioned for herself in this office, but at least her cousin is there to share in her failure. or at least find amusement in it. âthere must be something original.â
her cousin came back with a bang, that was for sure. lois looks up from her computer, furrowed brows in an initial attempt to understand what chloe is saying, but a lighter expression comes over her in an instant. she lays back on her chair and a laughter echoes through the now empty bullpen. there were a reason they were the best at the newspaper â they always stayed until late. ââ thatâs kinda funny.â her chair squeaks with the little swings, eyes now locked in the blonde. âbut why did she want to make him look bad?â itâs a honest question, but coming from lois, thereâs more to it. âsure heâll say she was just a bitch after fame and his demise but you and i know better. where thereâs smoke, thereâs fire.â she states with a cocky smirk. âcâmon cuz, you can dig deeper. whatâs wrong?â

wineandflcwersâ:
Persephone had never necessarily needed to eat, but she was indulgent. How could she not be? Mortals were the same way. She admired their passion for food, and wine, and pleasure. It gave her purpose on the first few days of her arrival - seek out faces of cheer, help the downturned mouths with offers of wine, and share in their greed. They were always moving, always celebrating, always eating and drinking. So when she saw the stranger reluctantly take a pastry, she couldnât help but sidle her way over. Perhaps a bit too closely, but she had never been one for boundaries. âYou should get a whole box or sit and enjoy that one.â She said, almost too loudly, a grin playing on her lips. âTake a break from work, Iâm sure you can postpone a thing or two. Itâs overrated, anyway.âÂ
lois wasnât known to respect boundaries either but that was about others. when it came to her personal space? that was a different story. a bit hypocritical of her but she still eyed the other woman up and down, holding the donut too close to her mouth after a first bite. âa little personal space?â she raised her eyebrows when she finally spoke. somehow the brunette brought a different kind of energy, like there was this big aura around her. âyou must be swimming in money to think that.â not another billionaire, she thought to her buttons. âbut i suppose you could be right. about the break, not the rest.â lois lane would never leave her job, whether it was the post or the planet. she was still keen to keep the other at bay but the reporter sensed something. maybe a future story. âif i were to take a break, would you keep me company? the machine downstairs serves an amazing cappuccino.â

â i brought them for my interviewer, but i suppose that you can have one as well.â hiding her amusement, diana tried to not smile at the mix up in front of her. she supposed it could have been better labelled, the gift merely a token of her appreciation for the piece sheâd read in the paper a few days ago, something personally delivered rather than by way of aid or assistant from her office. looking down at the coffee in her hand, the one she knew was made exactly how her interviewer liked it, she couldnât help but offer it up in the situation. â do you want the coffee as well?â
lois brought a finger to her lips, a hmm escaping while she was busy chewing. ââ wait, you gave someone an interview and a gift of the gods too?â to say she was surprised was an understatement. âi should really choose my sources better.â no one had ever offered her any type of pastries or other form of gratitude for a good piece. bring the truth to the public wasnât as beneficial as sucking it up to those in charge, as it seemed. âlet me guess, it was for your interviewer too.â but before the other could take back the offer, lois takes hold of the cup with a polite smile. she takes a sip and... thatâs definitely a hint of vanilla. âthis is very kind of you, miss prince. you wouldnât be happening to try to bribe me?â

elphaba watched the scene unfold, laughing a bit at the girl who clearly needed the break. âmaybe you should take a minute to relax and eat that. theyâve clearly got good intentions making you sit for a minute.â
âwhatâs wrong with eating and relaxing at the same time? eating is relaxing.â lois casually pointed out, shrugging her shoulders before taking another bite. damn, it was a good donut. she let out a content sigh and grabbed a napkin to clean the glaze off of her lips. ââ i didnât even ask.â she usually didnât. âare you looking for someone or do you need something?â she didnât seem to fit in the bullpen.

He could see she was trying to play a long game, but if he knew Lois Lane â which he did â he was sure she wasnât gonna last long. She was not gifted with Bruceâs brand of patience, nor his keen ability to merely sit still and observe. He takes another donut from the box, eating it while watching the screen over her shoulder. Heâd have pointed out a spelling mistake on her document, but she gives in quicker, prompting him to innocently shrug his shoulders instead. âYou offered.â Bruce puts simply. âAlready bought a few majority shares before breakfast. Itâs been a slow going morning.â Then, a smirk grows on his lips. He did want something; the same thing he always wanted from her: get in on whatever it was she was digging. Though it pained him to admit it, Lois had a knack for sniffing out stories so great that even he could not resist them.  "What are you working on, Ace?â
âit wasnât a real offer.â she shots back, a hand closing the box of donuts and pushing it away from him. âbut if you want to take it so literal, this is mine.â as much hypothetical as her offer had been, it was still a bargain she intended to get out of in the winning side. any other person, lois wouldâve turned off her screen to keep her work to herself. but itâs just bruce, they go way back. without her knowledge, he might be the only person she actually remembers. which, in this moment, she wishes she didnât. ânothing.â she says simply, crossing her arms over her chest and looking up at him. she takes a while, not sure if sheâs just waiting for him to give up or considering being honest. the more her brain tries to make sense of what she was working on â or trying to, the more fidgeted she gets. lois gets up and looks around before returning her gaze to him. âitâs not even a hunch, itâs just... something.â she hates feeling like this. she knows thereâs something out there, something she doesnât understand yet, something more... thatâs when she grabs his arm and pulls him across the bullpen, ordering the intern using the printer to leave the copy room. once alone, lois locks the door behind her but she doesnât speak instantly. she doesnât know what she wants either. ââ i think iâm going crazy.â

âHappier than you after eating a donut? Hardly. But it will have to do.â Bruce took a bite of his own pastry, with more gumption than he usually did â the love for donuts was one that they shared, though he was not too willing to share as much with Lane â and promptly set it aside. Deciding it was a slow morning and that there was no better way to pass time than to vex Lois Lane, the billionaire begins licking the glaze off each of his fingers while eyeing her.  "Think Iâm gonna watch you.âÂ
she gladly ignores his comment, an eye roll being louder than words could. she found it easier to just brush it off and move on with her day than get into a non sense argument with bruce - it never led anywhere and yet she always fell for it. just give her a few more seconds. lois takes another bite before setting it aside and focusing on the computer screen in front of her. she genuinely thought heâd leave. one look over her shoulder and he is still there. ââ are you seriously just going to sit there and watch me?â lois turns on her chair to see with her own eyes, as if they were betraying her somehow. no, he really seems comfortable. âdonât you have like companies to buy, get featured in the gossip column or,â she gestures with her hand in the air, âdo whatever it is that you do. this is creepy, even for you.â she narrows her eyes for a second. âunless you want something.â

â i am happy , thank you , â she responds with a soft smile. she had had a couple of donuts left after buying them for her class & she hadnât wanted them to go to waste. plus , the other seemed so into her work , that yanli had the feeling that she hadnât taken a break to eat. so , she figured offering a donut to the other would solve more than one problem & now , sheâs glad she did. she takes the last donut for herself & places the box on the edge of the table for the time being. she takes a bit of her own pastry before she continues , â iâm not going to watch over you , no. but did you really want a whole box ? i can get you one. â
lois didnât always (or ever) think before she spoke and so, lashing out at the otherâs concern was an easy coping mechanism to fall back to. until she offers to get her a new box. the older woman stops and stares at her, suddenly feeling bad about being a bit harsh. âi was joking, kid, you donât have to.â she said with a sympathetic smile before taking another bite. âhm, hold on. youâre not one of the new interns, are you?â

Mina laughed softly and set the box down on the desk. âPerfectly happy, Lois.â She took a bite of her own donut. âNo, no, get back to work. Lord knows I need to get this article finished by the end of the day.â Sighing softly she turned back to her computer, checking over her notes before continuing on with her writing. âWhenâs your deadline again?âÂ
lois sat down across from mina but still peeked over her computer. she was more curious than a cat. âwhatâre working on?â mainly lois was procrastinating on her next piece. something simply didnât feel... right but she couldnât pinpoint what. she was almost certain she had been working on something but then there was no physical evidence of said story. âby the end of the week.â except she had no story yet. a rarity if you ask her. âgarrettâs been up my ass to pitch it to him. you know how he gets so this,â she leans back on her chair and takes another bite. âis my lifeline.â a silent thank you.

âI was going to bring you fruit but I doubt that would have gone down well.â June chuckled lightly. She took a seat across from Lois, crossing her legs and leaning back into the seat with a sigh. âWell I was thinking I feed him all this sugar he falls asleep and I can just write the article myself. Then it focuses on the science and not my hair or my skirt. I am not worried about some skeezy man. Dealt with worse more concerned that those types of articles keep women out of my field and many scientific professions.â She wanted to be a beacon of hope now, after everything with the enchantress. Instead of causing destruction. âIâll make the time. He can wait.âÂ
âi would nicely accept fruit, iâd never turn down food,â which is more than true when it comes to lois lane. sheâs not know to be picky about what she puts in her mouth. âbut youâre right, iâll be nicer to you now that you gave me the goodies.â her smile brightens up, leaning against her desk as she listens to the other woman. âhey, thatâs a good plan. iâll help you lock him inside the copy room until you finish the article.â lois chuckles after a wink. when june accepts, her invitation, she straightens up and leads the way down to the lounge. âor... if you donât want to be so extreme, i can pull some strings, keep him in check. he owes me one.â

This city is weird. Heâs gotten turned around four times now, though heâs usually got a pretty good grasp on city layouts. Something about seeing them from a birdâs eye view. To be fair, getting to know the city layout a bit better had been his goal - he just wished itâd been in a more organized way. As opposed to getting lost.Â
Oh well. Time to make like a tourist. Clark supposes he already looks like one, what with the map and the bemused look and all. He scratches the back of his neck, trying to catch someoneâs eye.
âUh. Excuse me. Could you point me in the direction of K Street?â
((@hiddenstarters!))
she remembers him from smallville. a far away memory from when she spent an entire semester with her cousin in the small town of nowhere kansas. loisâ memories after all are pretty vague but she blames it on the five hours of sleep and having not had her coffee yet.
âkent.â she picks up how lost he is on her way to the washington post, pointing a finger ahead. âthis way.â thereâs no hello, how are you or questions about his family - she always had liked martha kent. âyou finally decided to leave the corn capital and move to the big city?â she asks with a raised eyebrow, reaching the doors of the post and walking inside - he could hold the door for himself.

June was in to help with some sort of archaeology article but she imagined Lois hadnât eaten much today so she held out the box of donuts to the other woman. âHappier. Iâd be happier if I didnât need to feed you.â She leaned against the door frame. âI might be here helping someone else but yes I will stand here until you finish the whole thing.â A chuckle escaped her. âNice try. Now eat up.âÂ
lois rolled her eyes and tilted her head while she chewed on another bite. âseriously? one lonely donut is barely enough to keep me awake.â when she finished it, the reporter rubbed her hands to clean the sugar out of them. âwho are you helping? is it kendrick from the 3rd floor? âcause if it is, he really canât eat all that sugar. not to mention you should totally run while you can.â she crossed the distance between the two of them. âdo you have time for a coffee at least? you know, to make sure i remain alive.â

OPEN STARTER. âȘ for anyone ( @hiddenstartersâ )
it wasnât rare for lois to need a quick rush of sugar to keep her going through the day and if accompanied by a cup of coffee, even better. she couldnât remember when it had been the last time she had eaten, there was a fog in the back of her mind that it was making it hard to remember. despite being one of the best in her field, lois simply assumed it had been too long â and accepted the offered donut. âthere,â she said after a bite. âhappy now? will you let me go back to work or will you watch over while i finish this maple donut? because if thatâs the case, iâm gonna need a whole box.â if they were keen to keep her fed, might as well take advantage of it.

âhave you seriously never seen a phone before?â ever since she had woken up, some people around the city seemed a little weirder than usual. âhave you hit your head? gone through brain surgery and lost like twenty years worth of memories?â lois joked, totally unaware of why the man wouldnât know how to use a phone. and then it hit her that the latter could be true. her eyes got wider and she pursed down her lips. âi really hope that isnât the case. here ââ she grabbed the phone before he asked, ââ for a work phone, all you really need is emails, texts and contacts list.â lois proceeded to show it to him. âdonât be one of those idiots who install all the personal socials and candy crush. and do not try to watch porn in this.â she said nonchalantly, giving back the phone. âunless you want your boss to know about it.â

Steve was working, finding himself coaching the elementary basketball team was something well - he never expected since waking up in whatever this world was, his struggles? technology and actually trying to be polite to a bunch of kids who lose. After another sucky game, he sat on the steps inside the gym, focusing on someone who was behind him. âNone of these kids are going to be NBA players, thatâs for sure.â He chuckled almost like he was a mix of being pissed off and chaotically. @hiddenstartersâ
for all that lois knew, she had always lived in this washington city. she had no recollection of what had happened to have her been sent to this new world. it was all she knew. what she didnât know was why she had been sent to a elementary school â this was worse than writing about firefighters saving kittens from a tree. âyou sure? âcause that could change both our lives, kid. not a single lost prodigy out there?â she raised an eyebrow looking at the very exhausted children.

Was that ERICA DURANCE? Oh no no, that was just LOIS LANE, a CANON CHARACTER from SMALLVILLE/DC COMICS. They are THIRTY-EIGHTÂ years old and ARE NOTÂ aware that they are not actually from Washington DC. Too bad they canât stray from this city for long. {ooc: angie, 26, gmt, she/her}
trigger warnings: cancer and death mention.
how long has your character been here
she has just arrived upon working on a story about the mythical magical parallel city of washington but has lost all memories of her real past.
what is your character's job
lois is an investigative reporter, pulitzer winner previously working for the daily planet and currently working for the biggest newspaper in the city.
where has your character been pulled from in their fandom
canon to post smallville, lois was living in metropolis and working at the daily planet as one of the best investigative reporters in the world. she was married to clark kent and mother to three children â jon kent of age 8 and two twin girls, lara and ella, of age 5 (but that can be adjusted if anyone applies for clark!). she was working on a story about this parallel city when she was âsuckedâ into this new world.
has any magic affected your character
lois has no recollection of her past life or what she was working on. as far as she remembers, she lived her life the same way as in canon â being an army brat, going to smallville for a brief period before moving to washington for college and staying to build her career. there are a few gaps that she canât yet make sense of.
WANTED CONNECTIONS: clark kent in any capacity, lucy lane & chloe sullivan!!, dc characters because thatâs fun, fellow journalists who either are or not aware of the situation in place, friends, frenemies, friends with benefits, exes, enemies/targets she has exposed, army brat friends, etc.
HEADCANONS:
little run down for those who are not familiar: she talks a lot, initially can be seen as rude and insensitive but actually very compassionate and empathetic. loyal to a tee, too curious for her own good, always getting herself in trouble.
her dad is a three-star army general and they moved during all her childhood, both inside the country and abroad
her mother died from cancer when she was six years old, has one younger sister named lucy and their dad was very absent from their lives
allergic to cats and dogs
bisexual so any and all possible partners are accepted
failed her senior year of high school, needing to finish a semester when she was in smallville, kansas visiting her cousin chloe sullivan
studied journalism in metropolis university (but she now thinks it was in washington)
has won a pulitzer
could live off of coffee and donuts
