The pokemon anime subreddit fascinates and frustrates me on equally deep levels
#smiling and blinking innocently. long tags ahead :) being normal :)🌸☀️☘️✌️💐#i'm such a 'minding my own business' person in fandom. i feel like my usual reaction to seeing takes I disagree with is#'well. people probably hate some of my takes so whatever'. perhaps even the ones i'm about to share#but. man.#it's like a portal to 2010 forum discourse but goh and serena are there this time.#deeply fascinated by the repetition of old ship wars too????#what do you mean we're still having legitimate 'but drew and gary are mean' discourse 😭#i mean by all means they should keep arguing because mostly i'm just glad that the wider pokeani sphere remembers drew at all#but that being said i wonder what kind of rivalry these people would have wanted instead?????#because there's other rivalries we could point to where they weren't air-quotes 'mean'. but we have those and people ignore them lol#because they're-imo- usually less engaging and dynamic. except for dawn and zoey who have never done anything wrong in their lives.#like we COULD give everyone the supportive happy rival experience a la may and grace or whatever but that's just not the SAME#and augh. taking psychic damage and trying to be normal but that's the THINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG OKAY#are Gary and Drew needlessly mean in early episodes? yeah lmao. i'm not arguing on that. they suck ❤️ completely insufferable.#b u t#there's that line. right. the line where it slowly slides into backhanded compliments too and giving that motivation-#-for their rival to work harder and the fact that they want that reaction and attention from this one person so badly.#like shipping aside I really do think that the friction of the Gary/Ash and May/Drew rivalries is what made them GOOD.#and yeah sometimes it was out of line but also that's just how the dub is as a whole tbh. they just said whatever shit they could 😭#AND BACK TO THE BEING NICE THING. Ash and May both got growth from their nice rivalries but not what they got from Gary/Drew.#it's different types of growth and lessons and they needed both kinds from different sources. I'd argue the rougher rivalries taught more?#regardless of your opinions on the characters themselves you can't deny that Gary/Paul/Drew/Harley/etc- the rivals that pushed A&M-#had the biggest impact on their growth over the rivals that didn't push. note that 'friends' and 'rivals' are different categories for this#I'm pitting. like. gary and paul against morrison and ritchie and not against dawn or pikachu or brock or whatever. different convo.#but it was growth out of spite to be better than the jackass rival at first and then that CHANGED INTO MUTUAL BETTERMENT#AND WANTING TO BE BETTER ✨FOR✨ AND ✨WITH✨ THEIR RIVAL. OKAY. (re: gary and drew specifically)#and as a result of all of this. drew and gary did get better to be fair!#well gary did kind of just start picking on goh instead gjkhsdkfj (joking) but ykwim.#DAMN IT I'M OUT OF ROOM AND IT DELETED A WHOLE ASS PART 2 THAT I HAD TYPED OUT#fine. i'll make this its own post at some point because i yearn to yap on about it

𝖔𝖕𝖊𝖓 𝖙𝖔: m/f/anyone 𝖕𝖑𝖔𝖙:  your muse gets in a lot of fights or has a dangerous job where they get injured frequently & they’ve been coming to the clinic that Marley works at, discreetly & after hours & she takes care of them. They kind of have a slightly flirty thing going but it’s mostly to keep Marley off your muses’ case about how often they’re coming in injured, she thinks something is going on & is suspicious but she’s no snitch. hmu if you’d like to plot! 𝖈𝖔𝖓𝖓𝖊𝖈𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓: an assassin or hitman, boxer/fighter, someone scrappy/fighty, a criminal or mafia member, old fling or classmate from high school, idk whatever works~
Tumblr media
“If you keep showing up here like that I’m gonna start to think you’re just getting hurt to see me,” Marley said as she entered the small room where the other waited, tucking her phone into the pocket of the pink pair of scrubs she wore. A small smile tugged at her lips before she tucked her long hair behind both ears and glanced down at the chart in her right hand, eyebrow arching before she snapped a look up at the other. Plopping herself down on the rolling stool the nurse scooted closer to where the other sat, she shook the chart in her hand before placing it on her lap and letting her green hues move over the other in an inspecting manner. “– what was it this time? Did you fall off the ladder cleaning your gutters?” She asked as she rolled back to put the chart on the counter and stand to pull on a pair of gloves, glancing back at the other once more before she turned to face them.

i get why people would opt to say walter was a terrible person since the beginning, but i think that's like, the most boring takeaway you can get about his character. he was already insecure and prideful from the start, and it's what would hurt him and keep hurting him. but like, being insecure and prideful are regular traits any regular person can have. the actions that he makes because of these traits, which in turn keep fueling his ego more and more, are what makes him an interesting character. and he was already pretty capable of hurting other people, but he wasn't doing it out of malice, but more because of careless selfishness at first. what makes walter terrifying is that the more he does it, the more he becomes aware of what he's doing, and the more he keeps going and keeps being more and more meticulous and deliberate about what he does that hurts people and even to the point when it was specifically to hurt people.
i think the traits were there in walter from the beginning—the pilot did a pretty good job of establishing how powerless he's felt all his life and just how susceptible he is to letting this newfound perceived power get to his head so easily. he even says this explicitly in 5x06 "Buyout" when he tells jesse "i'm not in the money business, i'm in the empire business". but saying he was this monster from the start kind of implies he didn't undergo through a character arc throughout the show when it's quite literally what he did. he got worse. so much worse. through mostly the fault of his own fragility.
#idk if i put it into words right but i'm just musing#was walter a good person when brba started? up in the air. but his family genuinely adored him. despite feeling like a loser teacher#some of his coworkers actually really liked and respected him. he was just as much of a regular person as anyone else was tbh#you know it's interesting that he and gale basically have the same motivations. why jump to meth of all things. why go from 0 to 100 when#it sounds COMPLETELY ridiculous. but they were both very passionate about chemistry who felt like their potentials were wasted and felt#like they were finally putting their skills to good use again. getting to flex their muscles and shit. whenever they cook better purer meth#than most other people. i think it's a really genius idea to have this premise for the show lol#cz as much as walter is motivated by him feeling like he desperately has to take control of his own life he also is a scientist at heart#who desperately needs to apply his knowledge and skills somewhere where it would feel gratifying#seriously dude you could've tried to get a paper published or two or something. djhdidhd#but the academe has its own Politics and whatnot. so one could only speculate why walt didn't get to pursue that any more#(aside from the whole grey matter industries thing)#anyway uhhh i hope i get the post across lol not to sound cheesy cliche but brba is a corruption slash character deterioration arc#quite literally the whole point is that he Didn't Start Off Like This And He Gets Worse#again. he already had some of his bad tendencies and traits but it's like. we all do that's not necessarily inherently make or break#it's what he DOES and KEEPS DOING. CONSCIOUSLY that turns him into the horrifying man he is by the end of it all#so i just think if your biggest takeaway is Walter Was Always A Monster then you're just missing the whole damn point#op#brbaposting

I need a massive sudden hyperfixation shock to happen again
#that era when i'd just got out of the onceler divorce of summer 2021. and then listened to everywhere at the end of time in october#and it was ruining my life and i couldn't sleep and there was nothing really good happening#like it wasn't Bad bc at least i wasn't depressed anymore like i was in the summer but it was still just dead. and i couldn't get#the last 6 minutes of eateot out of my head#and then. suddenly. got shot with the *blurry screenshot of stan and kyle as adults* beam#south park post covid trailer released. everyone who had ever been in that fandom was awakening from their graves#it was like 'future episode??' 'why have they got noses' 'what the fuckkkk' 'is anything real anymore?' etc#it was such big news that it instantly shocked me out of my existential crisis and reawakened that hyperfixation for the 9347384th time#and i vividly remember going on tumblr the morning after it aired and trying to avoid spoilers bc i hadn't watched it yet#but i accidentally saw a sentence something along the lines of 'kenny's a billionaire philanthropist now' and. ok i had to see a picture?#so i did and he looked like the epitome of a cool uncle#and then i was walking to uni that morning probably looking like i was crying or something bc like. kenny successful future#and the whole thing just brought my general mood up so much?? so by the time it was 2022 i was absolutely fine#and then 2022 was so good. up until like august and september#and things got a bit dangerous again like my mood was alright but the slightest thing could bring it down#and then my best friend/housemate got a girlfriend and it was that whole drama and her existence basically ruined my last year of uni#and since then i've become so bitter and cynical and all victimy and it's so annoying and i don't even realise i'm doing it#so now i only ever notice negative things happening and have done since like the end of 2022#and i just need one of my old hyperfixations to do something insane again. like sp post covid.#i need. idk victor hugo to come back to life and publish notre dame de paris 2. or something#or for pip to come back to south park. that would actually fix me forever tbh#or the golden ratio to announce they're touring the uk for free. okay no ykw that would fix me#orrrrrrrrr idk. secret history made into a film but it's actually good#anyway. the south park kids as adults with noses set off an entire like 8 months of Pure Optimism in 2022 and i need her back more than ever#ramble

happy loki day! ❤️ don't want to spoil but did you hear mobius's real name? what do you think!
Thank you and Happy Mobius Day right back to you! 😘
Following your lead in not mentioning his name since the ep hasn't aired yet but I have and might be the only one happy about it lmao
Considering there isn't a name besides Mobius that would EVER *truly* suit him I was expecting the worst but actually think it's super cute or at least the shorted version we've heard is?? Off the top of my head can think of at least a couple dozen names I would've liked waaaaay less so this is a win as far as I'm concerned 😅
As for any potential variant implications I've lowkey got no idea what everyone's on about but even though he's never been Just A Guy™ to me I do think that's basically the case regarding his spot on the timeline and just want him to stay literally the only guy in the world and the one who fell head over heels for Loki in the process of seeing potential no one else ever could? Which is what I think will continue in the show and what I'm sticking with regardless of canon so I'm good 😂💖

Hobnobbers
Sinclair’s apartment was in Athena’s Glory, only a 30-minute railcar ride from Naomi’s apartment, and “lavish” was an understatement. He had an entire floor to himself. More marble. More gilding. Servants in uniforms, flowers in their buttonholes. A foyer filled with paintings of plantation mansions, figures crushed in their shadows.
When Sinclair had said “small party,” John had imagined a group of a dozen people or fewer. Instead, there were nearer to a hundred, mostly men of middle-age or greater, and a record player crooning beside an open bar. The room was hazy with smoke. Everyone was in black, reflected against windows and polish like a throng of monoliths.
Breathless, Naomi clenched John’s arm, eyes flicking this way, then that, like a cat who had just spied a roomful of mice. He gave her a twisted grin.
“Jesus, kid, what are you so worried about?” he asked. “I’m the one who’s supposed to be out of my element here.”
“Nothing!” she said. “Only this is wonderful! I haven’t met so many of these people.”
“Go wild,” he said, loosing his grip.
But she clung with extra fervor.
“They want to see you, remember?” she whispered.
“Are you kidding?” John asked. “You’re adorable. Every hot-blooded man here would be ecstatic to meet you.”
Her face brightened, and when she turned to him, it was as though her soul embraced him. For a moment, they were both in a little world only they knew. Their noses nearly touched; he could feel her breath on his throat.
“No,” she said softly, her cheek brushing against his. “I’ll go with you.”
“All right.” He hugged her arm against him. “Point the way, then.”
“Sinclair, first,” she said softly. “Oh, he’s one of the biggest players in the whole city. I can’t believe…”
Sinclair was impossible to miss. He had misplaced both jacket and hat. He reclined at the bar on one of the stools, leaning on one elbow, legs flung out, fresh cigar in hand. Another man perched on the stool beside him with a drink, fedora pulled down over his ears. When Sinclair saw them coming, he slapped his neighbor on the arm.
“Well, if it ain’t Johnny Topside and friend,” he said. “Ms. Spunky-second-cousin-from-Boston.”
“Yes, thank you!” Naomi giggled, and took his hand. “Naomi Lucas. I’m so pleased to make your acquaintance. I hope you enjoyed the play.”
“Very much!” Sinclair slapped the bar. “Hey, Vince, get me a mint julep. You folks like bourbon?”
“Of course,” Naomi said. She flushed so prettily. A sweat-dampened curl glistened above her ear.
And she’s coming back with me, John thought, giving her a squeeze.
“And you, Mr. Topside?” Sinclair shook his hand emphatically.
“I never turn down a drink,” John said with a grin.
Sinclair threw his head back and laughed. “That’s what I like to hear! Vince! Two bourbons, neat. Thanks.”
“Who’s your friend?” John asked.
“Me?” The man on the stool squeaked around. The baby-face was unmistakable. “You don’t remember? I’m hurt.”
John’s smile wavered.
“Fontaine,” he said.
“That’s right,” he said. Smoke curled out of his nostrils. “You been making a splash ‘round here lately. I’m ‘preciative. You got that monkey off my back for a while. Hell, that thing you did last night? Fuckin’ glorious. I’ll be laughing for weeks.”
“What?” John asked. “What’d I do?” He started running through his memories. Fuck, they were all so fuzzy. Why’d he have to drink so much?
“He don’t know what he did!” Fontaine said, slapping Sinclair on the shoulder. The two of them started cackling.
“Come on,” John said. “I’m new here. I know jack-shit.”
“Ryan actually went to a party last night,” Fontaine said. “Ava Tate’s. Actress. You know that bird? Yeah? No?”
John scowled, eyes wandering the floor as though her identity might be listed there.
“Of course we know Ava Tate,” said Naomi, perhaps too eagerly.  “She’s a legend!”
“Yeah, well, Ryan almost never goes nowhere, but this time he did, and what do you know? Almost no one came,” Fontaine said. “Because everyone went to see you.”
John groaned. “Oh, shit!”
He’d said it too loudly. Some of the partygoers turned to look.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t wanna be you,” Fontaine said. “All I gotta say is, get some padding between you and that bastard. Something to remember around this joint: money solves everything. So I hope you got more fortunes tucked away in those pockets, Johnny-boy.”
Naomi squeezed his arm, hard.
“What can he do to me?” John asked softly.
“Fuck, what can’t he do?” Fontaine asked. “He disappears my boys all the time.”
“Where do they go?” John asked.
Fontaine glanced at Sinclair. Sinclair shook his head, shaking with silent laughter, and took another drag on his cigar.
“To the dirt,” said Fontaine. “Whaddaya think?”
“I thought there was no death penalty here,” John said.
“There is if no one’s looking,” Fontaine said. “So if I were you, I’d make sure everyone’s looking all the fucking time. Except for now, maybe.”
“Now?” John asked. “What’s different about now?”
“It’s just not a good look, us talking here.”
“You mean there are spies?” John asked.
“Not conventionally,” Sinclair said lazily. “I don’t invite the press. But you know how word gets out. And folks do like to talk.”
“Shit,” John said, and grabbed his bourbon.
“Don’t take Frank too seriously,” said Sinclair, snipping a cigar and extending it to John. “He likes seeing folks squirm. And as long as you aren’t buying and selling contraband, well. I can’t imagine how Andy is going to justify a disappearance. Even his security team has standards.” He turned to Naomi. “Sorry about this conversation, miss. Not my usual fare, I must admit. Would you be amenable to a cigarette?”
“Yes, please,” she said. She was no longer bouncing on her feet. A veil had passed over her eyes.
“So you’re the dame who gave up a million dollars,” said Fontaine.
“I am.” She smiled up at him as she lit her cigarette. The lighter lit twin stars in her pupils.
“Is he worth it?” Fontaine asked. “I woulda turned him in, myself.”
“Of course he’s worth it,” said Naomi. “I wouldn’t have done it if he weren’t.” She gave his arm a little squeeze.
John stared glumly over his empty glass, turning it in a little circle.
“Worth it how?” Fontaine asked. “You got yourself a redneck in a tux. I could buy six hundred of those for a year each with that kinda money.”
“You’re talking to me now, aren’t you?” she asked. “I am in a party hosted by the Augustus Sinclair today, am I not?”
“Oh boy,” Fontaine said. “It’s one of these.”
“Frank, Frank. You’re going to give Johnny an ay-poh-plectic fit,” said Sinclair. “Would you folks believe he’s actually in a good mood?” He motioned at the bartender, jerked his thumb at John’s glass.
“I do,” Naomi said. “I’ve met many like him.” Her voice was freezing.
“And yet,” Fontaine said, hitting the last t like a cue on a pool ball, “you’re not my date, thank Christ.” He took a sip of his drink. “Gotta say, you two have been lookin’ cozy.” He made the adjective feel filthy.
“And you opened yet another charity,” said Naomi softly.
“Yeah, I can’t help myself.” He laughed. “You one of those die-hard believers, then? How does it feel, making Ryan squirm?”
“I’m not Ryan,” she said. “Why should I care?”
She could have delivered the question any number of ways. It came out sounding earnest. When she fixed her eyes on Fontaine, it was with a flat expression, like a blank piece of paper.
“It puts a target on your back,” Fontaine said, sticking his cigar in the corner of his mouth. “You care about that? Because you’re a nobody, lady, and being a nobody is dangerous business.”
Although Naomi laughed, she did not blink.
“You’re right,” she said. “Although not in the way you think. Ryan thinks nothing of women, and he will never begin. Nor, I believe, will you. No, of all of us, I am the safest. And that is if Ryan turns against every honest value he has ever cultivated, which I am certain he will not.”
“All of us?” Sinclair said, pressing his hand to his breast. “Damn, darling, what’ve I done?”
“You’re sitting here with Frank Fontaine, darling.” She smiled down at him.
Sinclair slapped his forehead. “Guilty as charged!” he said. “They’ll throw me in the trench at this rate.”
John had turned his shoulder to the trio and focused on his bourbon, calculating exits. But Sinclair grabbed at his elbow.
“Johnny, did you have any idea this woman is using you to get into parties?” he asked.
“I’m sorry, fellas,” John said, knocking back the rest of his drink. “I don’t think this conversation is for me.”
“No, no, Johnny, don’t head out.” Sinclair rocked up to his feet in one fluid motion, cigar champed down. “This is Frank’s real crime: chasing away my guests.”
“Now I’m confused,” said Fontaine. He drew a circle with his cigar. “I thought we was having a good time.”
“You always have a good time,” said Sinclair. “Don’t get too rowdy while I’m gone, you hear?” He slapped him on the shoulder. “Come on, Johnny. You, me, let’s go work the room, eh?”
Naomi took a sip of bourbon, her eyes hooded. Her overcoat gapped a little, and all that John could see underneath was skin. Fontaine stared without reserve.
“Naomi,” John said pointedly, throwing out a hand, “you said you wanted to meet some folks?”
“Of course,” she said, rising languidly. “I think I just saw my old ad manager. I’d love to say hello.”
“Good! Good!” Sinclair threw his arms over their shoulders. “This way.”
John staggered a little as he dropped off the stool.
“Good luck there, buddy,” said Fontaine. “Enjoy the time you got left.”
“Don’t worry about Frank,” Sinclair said as he pushed them into the crowd. “He loves drawing blood.”
“And you?” Naomi asked.
“Oh, I do imbibe,” Sinclair said. “But I’d hate for that to be your only impression of me. Frank brings out the worst in everyone. Alas! I am no exception. Now, what say we meet some more cheerful sorts?”

Ngl Season 1 John seriously gave me “Oh he’s sooo gay for him” vibes. Only keeping himself back because Sherlock literally rejected him at Angelo’s the second day they ever met.
John could be bi for all we know but for me, he is definitely straight but will not be opposed if Sherlock ever said “Wanna make out?”
I know plenty of straight men who had told me variations of: “I’m straighter than a ruler made of steel and like being in control in bed but if [name of male celebrity] asked me to be on my knees and beg for it, I will do so with tears in my eyes for absolute want.”
Which absolutely is the reason why I love Battersea so much.
I’ll admit I was both an Adlocker and Johnlocker (I only really stopped by Season 3 when I started getting kinda pissed at John). In fact, I may have tried searching for Jadlock fics and was deeply disappointed how few they were back in the day.
But like John being a straight man. Irene being a gay woman. But also both having Sherlock as their exception and loving him and being hella hot for him cos ummm look at him??? listen to him??? Battersea seriously satisfied my love for both ships ngl

percy had an 'im a big three son' moment when he choked a goddess with her own saliva (controlling a fluid that was INSIDE her body) annabeth was terrified.
nico had an 'im a big three son' moment when he disembodied bryce lawrence (quite literally dissipating and shrinking his LIVING soul into a spirit) and threw him to the underworld, smashing his zombie warriors. reyna was terrified.
yet we were robbed of jason's 'im a big three son' moment where he sucks the air out of someone's lungs and makes them stop breathing, or damaging a person's nervous system with his lightning control, and literally cause internal bleeding, or a damaged/fried skull if he electrocuted hard enough (look up the effects of lightning damage on body y'all will get a whole list, tbh he doesn't even need lightning to do any of this, air control is more than enough since air takes charge of everything going inside the body, but this is just an added effect.) he could give people STROKES if he wanted to. he's the literal definition of burnt out kid who was suppressed from discovering the magnitude of his abilities, because one, his dad's ego wouldn't be able to handle it, two, because he, for some reason, can't be allowed to do anything other than get knocked out :/
also adding on, hardcore pjo fans know that after the ending page of boo, there's this fan story that rick chose to publish in the last few pages of the book where a fan reimagines the ending of hoo, in that work, annabeth collapses from an attack and percy sobs clutching her body. jason calmly asks him to step aside, and kneels before annabeth, jason regulates her breathing using his wind/lightning powers and brings annabeth back fully from her cardiac arrest, causing percy to be relieved. (I wanted to link the pics of the pages here so bad but I didn't have the hard copy of the book with me, and this isn't available anywhere online either, only in the original covers of boo uk and us version, so I edited this post and asked people to reblog this post w the pics if they have the hardcopy, and a kind blogger found the story I'm talking about and reblogged the pictures of the pages, you can check my reblogs of this post for the pictures of the almost all the pages after this scene) considering rick approved and even liked the fan's work well enough to publish it in the official boo book, I'd say rick was aware and never completely ruled out expanding jason's abilities and had them in mind, he simply didn't incorporate it into the books. (also W fan for giving jason the rep he deserves, I will always remember you, you saw the VISION before any of us did, the story was very well written, with great dialogue.)
