I came into this expecting problematic. But so much I’m like “I feel like this is pushing it even for 2007-8” or whatever.

Thinking about how Leo says he uses his jokes to cope and y’know, thinking harder on it I think it may very well be because of what else uses one-liners and puns and that type of humor.
Specifically, 80’s action movies and campy sci-fi. Even more specifically, the protagonists of these.
So I can imagine why, exactly, Leo leans toward this brand of humor. It’s directly linked to things he loves! But even more than that is why I think it’s used as a coping mechanism.
In these genres, these quips tend to be said by the winner - or, if not a winner, then someone who will stay alive. So there’s a confidence behind them, an assurance, almost, that even if things go wrong, things aren’t ever too serious. There’s no bad endings here! It’s all good fun, even if the stakes seem high.
Leo canonically has been known to steer his brothers away from the more brutal villains and toward more fun, lighthearted activities and not-so-dangerous criminals. So for Leo, these jokes definitely make things less heavy, make the situations they find themselves in less intense.
It’s kinda not just coping, but also can be seen as a form of escapism. A safety blanket. A way for Leo to defuse the tension of knowing just how dangerous their lives are and replace that with a levity which implies that things will be okay.
Unfortunately, levity alone does not alter reality.

i love it when a tv show has lows that are so low you're so ashamed to ever show it to anyone ever but then highs that melt your brain a bit, like, "good fucking god, this is genuinely such an astounding piece of craftmanship... my perception of the medium, and perhaps of myself, has been challenged/changed in 40 minutes" but you cant even express that to ppl without feeling like youre fucking deranged bc my god the lows .....

So do you guys actually think that Jason's entire story, relationship to the others, and philosophy amounts to him being a rebellious teen who wants his dad's attention? Like are you 100% serious? I thought you were joking about that but too many of you are saying it with your whole chest.
And what the fuck is this "Bruce antagonizing Jason is fanon!" Shit I've been seeing? You guys are aware that a parent can love their kid and still be a shit parent right? I know you guys don't want to fathom the thought that maybe your blorbo might also occasionally have to face responsibility for consistently endangering children but let's not start being delusional now.
Bruce does love his kids, that doesn't mean that he hasn't hurt them. And I'd also argue that for the most part he feels in the right for it, and he's said multiple times that he believes it's for their own good, so you can't even argue that he's sorry about it. It's okay for you guys to admit that your PERSONAL INTERPRETATION of the character wouldn't do that but don't sit here and pretend that it's not a facet of the source.

Reread/skimmed my oldest Pharma apologism posts (mainly the ones about Pharma not being a functionist) and it just occurred to me that possibly another reason the fandom saddled Pharma with the "functionist bigot" label is because his introduction by First Aid says that everyone hates Decepticons, but Pharma really really hates Decepticons. Mix that with the portion of the fanbase that lionizes and whitewashes the Decepticons, and I can easily see it entering common fanon that "Pharma hates Decepticons -> the Decepticons are freedom fighters wrongly maligned by the Autobots/the franchise -> Pharma must be a bigoted functionist since he hates Decepticons who represent freedom."
The simpler explanation is just that Pharma is an antagonist and therefore gets the "everything about him must be evil and wrong" black-and-white analysis so common in fandoms in general, but given some of the bizarre Decepticon takes I've seen I can also easily see Pharma's Decepticon hatred being taken as a sign of him being bigoted and evil.
Though AGAIN in this case it would still be singling Pharma out as a bigot for crimes/flaws that multiple other Autobots are guilty of like.
Oh, Pharma hates Decepticons? Well a lot of other Autobots hate Decepticons too, First Aid's narration about Pharma even says "we all hate Decepticons"; for that matter, there are a lot of Decepticons who hate Autobots. It's a massive civil war that's lasted for a lifetime causing two groups of people to be stuck in a near-permanent blood feud, you can't assume that every Autobot who hates Decepticons (and vice versa) hates them because they're a bigot. Maybe there's been a war where both sides have been building an ever-increasing mountain of reasons to hate each other, so hating the opposite faction is a social problem caused by war and politics rather than a sign of individual moral failing.
Pharma worked at the New Institute so that means he must be evil/bigoted? Chromedome and Brainstorm also worked at the New Institute, but there's no widespread fandom shunning of them or headcanoning them as bigots.
Hell, even the very premise of assuming Pharma is a functionist bigot for hating Decepticons is ignoring the very premise of Pharma's motives, which are, uh... being blackmailed by the leader of the Decepticon Justice Division, who represents the ultimate form of Decepticon ideals to the point of literally wearing their symbol as his mask? So how were we jumping straight to "oh Pharma hates Decepticons bc he's a posh bigoted functionist" when there was a far more immediate interpretation/headcanon of "Pharma hates Decepticons because he's being tortured and blackmailed by one."
That's not to say that Pharma couldn't have hated Decepticons before Delphi, and I think you could make interesting headcanons/extrapolations based on either idea. But still. It kinda feels like people saw Pharma and just wanted to make him the Token Evil Autobot who's the opposite of our Good Heroic Autobots regardless of whether evidence from canon supported it or not.
Good riddance to bigoted functionist Pharma fanon, I'm so glad that the majority of Pharma fanon these days actually gives him a chance and puts him on equal footing as other Autobots.

I've said this and that about Mel meeting Swain, uprooting the Black Rose, and just dealing with family politics, but I may be most excited with how she deals with Vladimir. To me, Mel and Vladimir have really similar stories, where they're sent away by their parent for political gain, achieve incredible magical strength under extreme duress, and ultimately kill their parental figure. The difference between the two is that under the weight of everything, Vladimir became the thing most people inaccurately accuse Mel of being.
Vladimir is a charismatic aristocratic manipulator who is completely and utterly looking out for his own self-interest. Despite being an incredibly consequential person to the very existence of Noxus, a co-founder of the Black Rose, and having helped seal Mordekaiser away, he was actually pretty checked out by the time the Swain's coup against Darkwill happened. Now he's just using the situation to bulk up his own cult, the Crimson Circle, and maybe carve out his own kingdom from Noxus at some point too.
Vladimir is just such a clear antithesis of who Mel could be if she didn't care, if she lost her compassion and gave into the cynical nature of power. And I think Mel's new title as a champion, "The Soul's Reflection" is so interesting when you include Vladimir in the dynamic. Vlad's a blood mage with vampire-coding, and vampires don't have reflections, and Mel doesn't need to "reflect" Vladimir because they're already so similar.
Also I think it's neat that Mel and Vladimir are the only Noxians with base designs that make them look like they're going to a ball. Is it the same ball? ?...Maybe?
(Extra also! Mel has sun related powers while Vladimir is as close to a vampire as you can get).

i’ve been sitting on these for a while but i’m finally happy with their designs so here are my fan idols!
first up is ancient bay! they’re a hip hop duo (that occasionally dabbles in r&b) composed of cosmo and stella! they are known for their skating routines and their electric energy during performances. they present news in the daytime.
next is deep sea angels! campi and pae are a rock duo dedicated to lolita style. their fans (known as shrimps) praise their gentle but dedicated nature during meets, and their startling brashness in music. they present news in the nighttime.
the two groups are bitter rivals who believe that only the best group should be news hosts and the face of splatfests. the competitiveness varies between members but they’re all willing to do whatever it takes to be the best, even if it means sabotage
(what? two of the members are related? we will have to look further into this claim)
though they are not hosts of this frostyfest, cosmo is team money, campi and pae are team experiences, and stella is team presents

Idk about "best" but I do have my personal favorites. Thats honestly really hard I could probs pick my least faves easier than my faves...but IF I HAVE TO CHOOSE ONE (damn it I love all the gang they are all so close together)
I mean come on... nearly everyone loves Jerry- I'm no different. The energy he brings to the story and how he bounces off Jack specifically is so fun. Like he's part of those types of characters who are directly adjacent to your mains and are super entertaining and campy and usually on the chaotic side of the board, the "comic" next to the "straight man"- even if Jack himself is a bit of an oddball. (Thank god they have Rosa and Amy to balance that)
Everyone loves a jester, comedic, disarming, chaotic and in Jerry's case pretty damn loyal and oddly perceptive.
