In the spirit of the Olympics: ASOIAF characters and their Olympic sports
Jamie Cersei obviously a tennis doubles team thanks @melrosing for ur big brained art. Tywin is their coach and has been abusing training them since they were like seven. Consistent natty champs but haven’t scored a Wimbledon title yet and have yet to get gold at the Olympics (they have one bronze one silver). Mostly because Cersei breaks her racket every time things start going wrong. Also because Jamie is so full to the brim with shame and need for daddy’s recognition that he starts breaking down almost immediately once the point gap starts to widen
Brienne is a long distance swimmer she’s the Katie Ledecky of Westeros no one can touch her do you see her wingspan??? Usually finishes 5-15 seconds before everyone else sometimes other ppl aren’t even in the frame. Has multiple gold medals at this point and has been to the Olympics twice before she even turned 20. Lesbians go crazy over her online
Arya does some type of shooting and she’s like those tiny little teenagers that show up and blow all of their grownup competition out of the water. Steady hand and crazy aim. OR she does fencing and has a super unique style that gets the internet really into it for a couple of weeks. OR judo in the lightweight class. She’s so talented 🙂↕️ she’s definitely medaled at her first games when she’s like 14
Sansa is very obviously a figure skater like!!!! Of course she is!!! She is obsessed with her lines and artistry and takes ballet classes in order to improve her fluidity. She’s a young star in women’s singles, mostly for how graceful and fluid she is when she moves, and for her very gentle/pretty/romantic choice of costumes, music, and choreography. But she really wants to do pair skating mostly because she wants to have a romantic story to tell at their wedding (yes Joffrey is the potential partner)
Dany plays field hockey and she is sooooo cute and fun and peppy off the field and is so charming during all the interviews and always gives the girls a great inspirational speech and is just a very good leaderly figure in general. And then the game starts and you see a 5’2 platinum blonde sprinting towards u with blood and malice in her eyes and a big stick in her hands. She wants gold and by god does she get gold. Occasionally body checks ppl but she’s just too small for rugby.
Robb is a young rugby star he’s so handsome and muscular and all of his interviews go viral everyone’s obsessed with his training videos that the team TikTok posts. Soooo good too he’s on the Olympic team at 18 and he’s just sprinting down that field and dominating the game. But he’s so oblivious to it all the love when ppl ask if he’s dating anyone he’s like why would I do that I have to bulk up and focus on my game 🤨 and then runs off to meal prep with Theon (who does not meal prep but is obsessed with him)
Jon is an ice hockey guy to me. So dark and brooding while he’s sitting on the bench and he’s all locked in when it’s time to start playing he’s just so serious ab it he lives for The Game. But every time his buddies score a goal he goes absolutely batshit crazy and just loses all composure. And when they win he starts ugly sobbing. There’s a viral photo of him after winning his first gold just standing on the podium with snot and tears running down his face while the rest of the team is like 😁😁😆😄 him and Robb train together but Jon has absolutely no media training every interview is a disaster

Happy 28th! Here is my March 2024 fic rec, organized by word count, from longest to shortest. You can view my other fic recs here. Enjoy!
Sunshine, Baby! by staybeautiful / @harruandlou (106k)
Louis was the first one down the row for their group. If he hadn’t been they would have never met.
He was turned around, walking backwards and saying to Liam, “No, I’ll get you to a real footie match next,” when he bumped into someone.
“Oops,” Louis laughed, tripping over his own feet. A hand curled around his upper arm as he nearly fell over the seat in front of him. “Sorry about that, mate.”
He turned around, still teetering in his vans, to apologize again, but the words dried in his throat. Another hand gripped his other elbow, steadying him, but all Louis could see were green eyes and dimples.
“Hi,” the man laughed, a bright, bubbling sound. “Are you okay?”
Or Louis is in his first year of law school, Harry is a junior on the swim team dreaming of the Olympics, and they both agree that they don't have time for anything more than friends with benefits... right?
Follow Your Arrow by Anonymous (78k)
Harry was the golden child, blessed in every way; Niall was the charming miscreant, a bad boy; Liam was the future-son-in-law parents of daughters dreamt of, and Zayn was the kid parents wished was their son. But Louis, Harry thought, Louis was the special one.
It's senior year and everything is about to change.
Where We Landed by blueskiesrry / @blueskiesrry (70k)
The leaves were green the last time Harry stepped foot in Holmes Chapel, a stark contrast to the candy apple, butterscotch painting them now, years later. Harry first notices them on the train, gazing out the window with a downturned mouth. A warm something floods his stomach–memories, Harry imagines, of him as a boy, longing for the days when he’d live elsewhere and have to take this very train home for the holidays. He wonders how it’s possible to have once felt eager and euphoric at the sight of changing leaves yet now to feel nothing but tired. He sighs softly, turning away from the trees to look at his daughter, half-curled in his lap, asleep.
or: harry returns to his hometown with his sick daughter and more reminders than he bargained for of the boy he once loved when he left a handful of years ago
You'll Always Find Your Way Back Home by styleandsin / @styleandsin (43k)
Now, as he’s standing in the doorway, he’s trying not to get choked up. He hadn’t realized how much he missed this: the smell of his mother’s baking, the sounds of each of his family members, the sight of some of his old toys scattered about the foyer where his littlest siblings had presumably left them. All these things scream home, and he hadn’t felt at home since he left this house eight years ago.
Louis needs a break from everything, from acting and the constant pressure of life in LA. He decides to move back home for a bit, some time with his family is exactly what can lift his spirits. What he doesn't expect is to fall in love. Both with the town he hated so much so that he couldn't wait to leave it years ago and with a curly haired florist that was the complete opposite of the guys he'd often meet in LA.
Something About Liminal Spaces by kingsofeverything / @kingsofeverything (34k)
Searching for inspiration for his latest book, and hoping distance will help heal his broken heart, Louis Tomlinson heads to the village of Piha on the west coast of New Zealand’s north island.
There he meets Harry Styles.
Fifteen years older than Harry, Louis tries to keep his distance, but Harry is impossible to avoid and harder to ignore.
At Risk, I Fold by clare328 / @bearmustard (15k)
2015 is a stream of hotel rooms and whisky on the rocks, tired glances and touching hands under tables. It’s the bears and the bees under a rainbow sky, and Harry and Louis have to figure out how to grow up together, instead of apart.
Wedding Bells Will Never Ring For Me by lousmoonshine / @lousmoonshine (14k)
After a failed proposal a few years back, Louis gets an unexpected invitation to his ex - Harry’s – wedding
Some Kind of Night Into Your Darkness (Colors Your Eyes With What's Not There) by larryismylifesource (5k)
Harry’s body buzzes with heat, like a current underneath his skin, because it’s been too long and his husband is right here and for once they have no obligations other than each other and he just wants.
“Lou.”
And Louis must sense it, the way the atmosphere shifts against him, the way Harry’s eyes get all big and dark with need, because he meets Harry’s gaze and then yanks him down for another kiss.
or, the boys get a day off in the middle of tour and harry and louis use it to their advantage

Mechs that i think would forcibly feminize a man AHEM
Kup, old gruffy man. I can see it. Get him energon and sit on his lap
Prowl, cause he's such a bastard. Very strict i feel like. Would probably spank and finger a guy until he responds to fem terms.
Tfp Predaking. VERY prideful, if he saw a mech he wanted he'd make em his queen. Full on spikewarming as he is on his throne. Would probably force em to have their tits out 24/7.
Tfa Shockwave. Becoming a lil too Fond of a autobot mech while undercover. Once all said and done he, much like Prowl, would discipline them to be more feminine. All the while having a sickly sweet tone with em, fondling his wife. Saying shit how war is no place for him, that his wife should focus on the spike ramming in and out of his valve
Ultra Magnus tbh, very old, tired, stern mech in need of a conjunx to spoil. He would pull rank over any man he wants. Probably more subtle with it. Sugar Daddy vibes ngl
i need you to know that you have a beautiful mind and everything you have sent me lives in my cavernous insatiable cesspit of a spirit forever please keep feeding me ur big-brain thoughts
i have nothing to add ur operating on a level completely foreign to me you are at the olympics of horny and im just playing in a sandbox

lol naruto 19 and 24
top ask sender is back at it again (carrying my blog on ur back LMAO)
19. You're mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like...
I don't feel angry or ashamed or horrified that I like anything cuz I'm not catholic LOL jk I actually was raised in the church so I'm horrified I like any character with religious affiliation. How's that for an uno reverse?
Characters like Hidan for example are a bit of a doubled edged sword to be obsessed with for me. Getting hyperfixated on characters who have or could have religious trauma sometimes gets a little too close to home. Makes me angry sometimes that I relate to them when they're a character who's concerned with reconciling or being good enough for a god or people serving a god. Makes me feel grossed out, like I should know better, but it's a hard feeling to abandon when it was all I knew for almost 20 years.
Anyway, all things good to those who wait, so next time I get into Hidan or someone else who was horribly mangled by a religious fixture, maybe I'll feel mad but maybe also I'll iron out a little more of that trauma myself :)
24. Topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
In the naruto fandom, FOR ME, it's totally conversations about parents/parenting/parental figures. I am so pissed off how much people brush over the fact that naruto is at least partially or was at some point a narrative about how children are affected when they're given very adult responsibilities. In this case, it's killing and deciding how to keep people from dying. They're literally put in charge of people's lives before they'd even fucking be graduating high school. And there is literally no place these children can go where they can be free of that burden or not hear about how important it is to be ready at all times to defend your nation.
Anyway, I've already written about that ten thousand times, what I'm talking about here is how some people are fucking stupid about it. The level that some motherfuckers are at in the disregarding children's rights olympics which apparently exists on this website is fucking astronomical. Like the average tumblr user's ability to spot emotional or physical abuse and neglect is alright when it's Gaara, whose father tried to kill him repeatedly and then forced the only caretaker Gaara ever knew to kill themself in front of him. We do alright there.
But whenever I want to talk about how Fugaku was a bad dad, suddenly there are people appearing out of the woodwork to make an argument like the ONLY scenes we have with Fugaku aren't him emotionally neglecting and pitting his sons against each other. And imagine how it would go if Fugaku was just a little bit hotter.
You don't understand how livid this makes me. People can like whoever they like. I like Spirit from Soul Eater, THE worst most pathetic horrible bare minimum father who exists. But I say it. I am SICK of people thinking to like a character, they have to be good. You have to defend them or it means something about you. Just fucking say he's a bad father, whatever reasons you like him are your own business, it isn't hurting anyone. DO NOT LIE AND MAKE A GOOD FATHER OF SOMEONE WHO COULDN'T EVEN TELL HIS KINDERGARTEN AGE SON HE WAS PROUD OF HIM.
Fucking purity culture is just making a bunch of us into apologists who don't know how to appreciate complex media, it's not actually doing whatever the fuck they want it to do (make people like bad people less?? idfkkk) ANYWAY everyone needs to stop saying Fugaku is a good father and Jiraiya was a good mentor and the 3rd Hokage was good for naruto or they're gonna have to put me on the no fly list.
#thanks for the ask :)#this is wisp#cowboygren#choose violence ask#send more these are so fun XD#ask#naruto

Last night I looked up a German director (G.W. Pabst) from the early twentieth century and ran across that he was the one that got Leni Riefenstahl started in her career. That led me into her Wikipedia entry and boy, that was a read. If you don't know who she was, she's best known as the director of Triumph of the Will and Olympia (a two part documentary about the 1936 Olympics in Germany). They're both Nazi propaganda films.
Now for the part I wanted to talk about. After the war, she was tried several times but nothing ever stuck. The final decision was that she was a fellow traveler of Nazis but wasn't one herself. Then she went on to sue people for the rest of her life (fifty times according to Wikipedia) for libel if they called her a Nazi.
Wikipedia says:
Riefenstahl said that her biggest regret in life was meeting Hitler, declaring, "It was the biggest catastrophe of my life. Until the day I die people will keep saying, 'Leni is a Nazi', and I'll keep saying, 'But what did she do?'"
And I just have to kind of sit there, jaw open, before saying, "You directed Nazi propaganda! Maybe you didn't get the membership card and learn the secret fucking handshake but you directed Nazi propaganda! You made it more acceptable and promoted the agenda!"
Then of course there's the telegram she sent to Hitler when Paris was occupied:
"With indescribable joy, deeply moved and filled with burning gratitude, we share with you, my Führer, your and Germany's greatest victory, the entry of German troops into Paris. You exceed anything human imagination has the power to conceive, achieving deeds without parallel in the history of mankind. How can we ever thank you?"
She later tried to say it was because she thought the war was over and that was the spirit that it was sent in but fuck, she didn't have to send a congrats straight to Hitler. There's so much more, like her trying to deny knowledge about what the concentration camps were even though she used slave labor from them for a film or inviting Hitler to her wedding in 1944 (and he attended). Leni lived until 2003 but how many never got that chance because she directed those movies and made the Nazi party seem strong and glamorous? She's said to be one of the best directors of the twentieth century but dear God, at what cost? At best, she seemed to view the whole thing as a catastrophe for HER (see the above quote) because people are going to associate her with Nazism and she tried to claim she was naive even though she would have been in her thirties when the two movies mentioned were being made.
To sum it all up, this applies today. In years to come, people are going to look back on all the things going on and there are going to be people that stand out for their actions and some of them are still going to be around and they're going to try and do some form of, "But what did she do?" and we need to be able to point and say, "You enabled this, you enabled that, and maybe you never officially belonged but God damn you sure as hell didn't have a problem helping it along."

Ten Noteworthy and Unforgettable Stories to Stash in Your Travel Bag to Explore Both Real and Fictional Worlds on Your Next Vacation or Olympic Games
Originally posted on my blog: https://newbookcatsreads.blogspot.com/2024/08/ten-noteworthy-and-unforgettable.html
Unless you live in the sun-blazing heat and humidity of Houston or anywhere close to the Earth's equator, Summer rolls around only once a year. Nonetheless, summer in the United States is a time of change: the weather itself turns warmer as the sun works overtime, tropical storms and hurricanes become more occurrent as beach attendance rises, another academic year ends and readies for the subsequent classes to come later, and the awaited summer vacation and family traveling.
Whether I went to my local park or partook in a family road trip to Florida, each vacation was the most anticipated part of my summer. Moreover, partaking in exciting adventures only gave me more brownie points when I inevitably returned to school and expressed all the amusement to my classmates and friends. Nonetheless, I still left energy to read imaginary stories as well as listen to my classmates' summer stories.
Meanwhile, to distract myself from the never-ending wait to reach a destination (seriously, how many times is too much to ask a parent "Are we there yet?"?) to the inevitable downtime needed for my family to recharge after too many waves on the lazy rivers, my requirement for serious entertainment was delivered in the form of binging episodes of true-crime from Forensic Files or a murder mystery novel...and from the title of my blog, I do not have a doubt which of the two choices I or you chose on our previous vacations.
Thus, here are ten noteworthy stories to stash in your next vacation's travel luggage! In between glimpses of dragons and historical romances, do not forget to look up from the imaginary universe in your hands to explore reality outdoors!
Ten Noteworthy and Unforgettable Stories to Stash in Your Travel Bag to Explore Both Real and Fictional Worlds on Your Next Vacation
1. The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee
Need a break from home? If yes, then may I suggest traveling with Monty along with his younger sister Felicity and his best friend/crush Percy on their Grand Tour of Europe set in the 19th century?! Not only is Monty perfectly sassy and desired by the likes of many women and men, but his desires for trouble and flirts with danger only lead this trio to life-threatening adventures only heard in tall tales. Watch out for this impeccable novel that tackles both pirates and social issues in the midst of a historical comedy and romance!
Henry “Monty” Montague was born and bred to be a gentleman, but he was never one to be tamed. The finest boarding schools in England and the constant disapproval of his father haven’t been able to curb any of his roguish passions—not for gambling halls, late nights spent with a bottle of spirits, or waking up in the arms of women or men. But as Monty embarks on his Grand Tour of Europe, his quest for a life filled with pleasure and vice is in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family’s estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy. Still it isn’t in Monty’s nature to give up. Even with his younger sister, Felicity, in tow, he vows to make this yearlong escapade one last hedonistic hurrah and flirt with Percy from Paris to Rome. But when one of Monty’s reckless decisions turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt that spans across Europe, it calls into question everything he knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores.[Goodreads]
2. My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows
From the book that inspired the hit Amazon Prime series, it's only fitting to read the book before summer ends and compare the book to its television adaptation. Then, we may all decide whether the book is better than the series?
In My Lady Jane, coauthors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows have created a one-of-a-kind YA fantasy in the tradition of The Princess Bride, featuring a reluctant king, an even more reluctant queen, a noble steed, and only a passing resemblance to actual history—because sometimes history needs a little help. At sixteen, Lady Jane Grey is about to be married off to a stranger and caught up in a conspiracy to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But those trifling problems aren’t for Jane to worry about. Jane gets to be Queen of England. Like that could go wrong. [Goodreads]
3. The War Outside by Monica Hesse
It's 1944, and World War II is raging across Europe and the Pacific. The war seemed far away from Margot in Iowa and Haruko in Colorado--until they were uprooted to dusty Texas, all because of the places their parents once called home: Germany and Japan. Haruko and Margot meet at the high school in Crystal City, a "family internment camp" for those accused of colluding with the enemy. The teens discover that they are polar opposites in so many ways, except for one that seems to override all the others: the camp is changing them, day by day, and piece by piece. Haruko finds herself consumed by fear for her soldier brother and distrust of her father, who she knows is keeping something from her. And Margot is doing everything she can to keep her family whole as her mother's health deteriorates and her rational, patriotic father becomes a man who distrusts America and fraternizes with Nazis. With everything around them falling apart, Margot and Haruko find solace in their growing, secret friendship. But in a prison the government has deemed full of spies, can they trust anyone--even each other? [Goodreads]
4. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
Rachel catches the same commuter train every morning. She knows it will wait at the same signal each time, overlooking a row of back gardens. She’s even started to feel like she knows the people who live in one of the houses. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. If only Rachel could be that happy. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Now Rachel has a chance to become a part of the lives she’s only watched from afar. Now they’ll see; she’s much more than just the girl on the train...[Goodreads]
5. Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco
Although this is my current read, Maniscalco has me completely trapped in impulsively purchasing a one-way ticket to Italy and engulfing plates of pasta while reading. Be sure to bring this book and a bookmark with you wherever you go to vacation because it will keep you hooked!
Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe - witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family's renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin...desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister's killer and to seek vengeance at any cost—even if it means using dark magic that's been long forbidden. Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked—princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia's side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women's murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems...[Goodreads]
6. The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn
Anna Fox lives alone, a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother and their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble and its shocking secrets are laid bare. What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems.[Goodreads]
7. Angelfall by Susan Ee
It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back. Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel. Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl. Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.[Goodreads]
8. Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller
If you are still mourning the last book of Sarah J Maas' Throne of Glass series, I highly recommend Miller's Mask of Shadows. The story follows Sallot who is training to be a royal assassin...but only if someone does not kill them first!
Sallot Leon is a thief, and a good one at that. But gender fluid Sal wants nothing more than to escape the drudgery of life as a highway robber and get closer to the upper-class—and the nobles who destroyed their home. When Sal steals a flyer for an audition to become a member of The Left Hand—the Queen’s personal assassins, named after the rings she wears—Sal jumps at the chance to infiltrate the court and get revenge. But the audition is a fight to the death filled with clever circus acrobats, lethal apothecaries, and vicious ex-soldiers. A childhood as a common criminal hardly prepared Sal for the trials. And as Sal succeeds in the competition, and wins the heart of Elise, an intriguing scribe at court, they start to dream of a new life and a different future, but one that Sal can have only if they survive.[Goodreads]
9. Any Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys Mystery
If your ideal read on a vacation is short but still encapsulates all the features of well-thought stories, then I highly recommend choosing a novel from either the Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys series. I might also recommend bringing several of these novels, particularly if you plan to travel for several days, as they might just leave you wanting more adventure after your first look.
10. Kitty Hawk and the Curse of the Yukon Gold by Iain Reading
Reminiscent of the Nancy Drew series, this novel is for those who have read all the Nancy Drews and are looking for more history, action, and adventure!
Kitty Hawk and the Curse of the Yukon Gold is the thrilling first installment in a new series of adventure mystery stories that are one part travel, one part history and five parts adventure. This first book of the Kitty Hawk Flying Detective Agency Series introduces Kitty Hawk, an intrepid teenage pilot with her own De Havilland Beaver seaplane and a nose for mystery and intrigue. Aperçu of the week
"Let me tell you something that we Israelis have against Moses. He took us 40 years through the desert in order to bring us to the one spot in the Middle East that has no oil!"
(Golda Meir, Prime Minister of Israel from 1969 and one of the first female heads of government in the world)
Bad News of the Week
"Escalation in the Middle East conflict" - this headline is no longer followed by a question mark, but by an exclamation mark. For one thing, one or even several escalations are taking place and for another, these are no longer limited to Gaza. The attack on the Golan Heights, allegedly carried out by Hezbollah and resulting in around a dozen deaths, could unleash a momentum that could trigger the feared conflagration.
The Golan Heights, wedged between Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan, have always been an insecure region. Actually Syrian territory, the strip of land was conquered, occupied and effectively depopulated by Israel in the 1967 Six-Day War. Almost 125,000 Syrians were displaced. Today, around 25,000 Israeli (militant) settlers and 23,000 Druze live there. And now the Druze have had to accept the death of children who have done nothing but play soccer.
This attack has a new quality. Or was it a tragically misguided missile that nobody wants to admit to? For the first time, neither military nor infrastructural targets were in the vicinity. For the first time, a nation that has so far kept out of the conflict has been hit. The Israelis, who see the region as their territory, will strike back. The only question is how drastically. After all, Hezbollah is nothing other than the extended arm of Iran, which defines Israel as its mortal enemy.
The first governments have already called on their citizens to leave Lebanon, the southern part of which is under the control of Hezbollah. The official government of the failed state is calling on all parties involved to show moderation, but has no say in the matter. I already know that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will not be the only peace-loving person to light a candle. Because the bomb is ticking.
Good News of the Week
Kamala Harris. That's it. You don't really need to say any more. The mere fact that it seems possible that a woman of color who is competent, liberal and democratic could take the helm of the (still) greatest nation on earth is good news. "Is America ready for a woman - or just a misogynist?" asks the leading German news magazine Der Spiegel. Journalist Ulrike Knöfel explains: "When it comes to potential presidential candidate Kamala Harris, people often ask whether she can make it as a black woman. The right question is whether the USA can manage to choose a qualified woman."
That is the point. The one that goes beyond ethnicity. Only in the last few days have I learned the term "DEI" - which stands for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Very positive, important terms. Which Harris is nevertheless being labeled with malice by Republicans. But I already didn't understand why "woke" has actually become a derogatory word, almost an insult. After all, it means awake, alert, attentive. Then I like being woke. And sleep much better when I know Harris is in the Oval Office. And not the ridiculous misanthrope Donald Jessica Trump. Spot the difference!
Personal happy moment of the week
We actually wanted to go to a museum on Sunday. To the Museum of Fantasy on Lake Starnberg, to be precise. With friends. But instead, we had a pretty good breakfast in the museum café, had a lengthy exchange about living with teenagers with laughter and tears and then went for a walk when the sun came out. Also good.
I couldn't care less...
...over 400 meters freestyle swimming, barre gymnastics and field hockey. Normally. Because with the Summer Olympics currently taking place in Paris (with a remarkably creative opening ceremony, by the way), I'm suddenly interested. It must be the Olympic spirit...
It's fine with me...
...that the current US executive branch is planning to reform the US judiciary. After all, the current Supreme Court has made every effort to ensure that the need for term limits or a code of conduct has become obvious.
As I write this...
...I discover the "100 best albums of all times" on Apple Music. Not according to sales figures (even if that might be the case for Michael Jackson's "Thriller" or Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon"), but curated by a music editorial team and artists themselves. Of course I know famous standards such as "Pet Sounds" by The Beach Boys, "My life" by Mary J. Blige or "Back in Black" by AC/DC. But also "Blue Lines" by Massive Attack, "I put a spell on you" by Nina Simone or "The Miseducation of..." by Lauryn Hill (at number 1!), which I like to listen to again when I get the chance. I miss other albums on the list, such as "Imagine" by John Lennon, "Play" by Moby or the soundtracks to The Blues Brothers or West Side Story. And artists like Bill Withers, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Billy Joel - or Elvis. But tastes are different, and that's a good thing. But above all, it's nice to discover new artists: Robyn, for example, is obviously not my thing, but I think Erykah Badu is great. Music is simply something wonderful.
Post Scriptum
The EU reached an agreement in the spring and now the money is flowing: 1.5 billion euros from the interest earned on frozen Russian state assets is to go to Ukraine - for defense and reconstruction. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen commented: "There is no better symbol or use for the Kremlin's money than to make Ukraine and the whole of Europe a safer place to live". Significantly more money will come if Putin does not come to his senses. So I agree.

Scrying the Fire elemental kingdom..in Retrospect.
I know, I sometime start some stuff and take a very large break or never fully bring it to closure but I think this working deserve some sort of closure. Yesterday I finished my scrying of the fire elemental realm. Anyway to cut to the chase I hope everyone remember my sandalphon-assisted elemental scrying and last scrying session was with water elemental kingdom. We get into Fire now!
Fire is like this realm that jumps toward you. This was a very distinct thing for me because I felt like the gate of fire literally "came to me" and I entered it instead of me going into it.
Definitive thing as I was getting accustomed to the world of fire realm and elemental is this sense of hot feeling all over me, and my nose started feeling like I just ate something spicy or I inhaled some chilli pepper powder in my nose. I was mind blown when I oriented myself toward the scenery ahead of me without any assumption it was like an underground HUGE caves and caverns, the caves went down and the whole place was like an underground system and it span down like channels all around.
I felt the tension and heat of the place definitely but I didn’t think that the world of fire elemental would “underground” to say that was definitely a surprise. My own spirit guide explained to me that the fire elemental world is an upside down underworld, if what I am seeing is going down it is actually about going up the realms. The vision is like this mirroring between each element. It was definitely an interesting seeing that fire elemental guide was more of a whirling humanoid figure, Very Intense and Tight, Very Whirling and Changing, not Static.
The whole world felt like a more intense and charged version of Air, faster and with more force to it. The guide took me to a circular staircase where I was blinded by bright light at the top then I saw what I can describe as scenery filled with HUGE temples and pillars they had these very distinct Greek architecture to it. The elemental guide told me that this is where spirits who choose to incarnate in earth live before going to earth, not all spirits choose to incarnate into earth but those who do live here for a while.
Afterwards I was presented with these 3 steps staircase and nothing was infront of it, I took each step and then suddenly I was met with this huge infinite wall of light with changing patterns. The wall was like a “stop sign” and I couldn’t push any further, pushing my finger into it I felt physically my finger get “heated” and sensation of sudden “stop here”. I looked above and saw what I can describe as this circling turning around of lights at the top. I assume that I needed more purification if I wanted to continue onward. Lastly, in retrospect I can see how these realms border on merkavah ascension literature, Olympic spirit work, astral projection and so on. There’s definitely an overlapping between these realms and a deeper connection between all of them in spite of what they look outwardly so disconnected, with each experience I am finding more and more that the inner realms are more self-referential and connected then they seem to be! Stay tuned for the final conjuration with Sandalphon as I finalize my discussion with him about the elemental worlds.

Close Encounters with Cows.
7/5/24
14.2 miles today
I ate too much again last night with a large Fish and Chips plus I was eating up the left over food in the house. Still I did have a night off the drink.
I was ready and off by 9am. The house has been great and I was a bit sad to leave. The route was up to the station and then out into the countryside with the Pennines in the distance. I wasn’t going high today and the guide book predicted a walk of 13.2miles which meant I had plenty of time.
I decided on a 3 stop strategy but this was not to be. I simply couldn’t find anywhere to sit and by the time I stopped at Kirkby Thor I was about halfway mileage wise. It had been easy if slightly dull walking along farm tracks and through fields. One track was flooded and I tried to shuffle along the edge by holding onto the trees at the side. This strategy fell apart when I came to a hawthorn bush where I got spiked by the thorns and ended up stepping back into the water. I was pleased it didn’t go over the top of my boots which proved a bit of a hollow victory considering the rest of the day.
I was looking forward to a stretch walking along the river Eden but as I crossed the A66 and climbed over a stile my excitement waned. It was a sea of mud and cow pats as far as I could see. I squelched and slipped my way across this morass eventually reaching the bank of the Eden. My relief was short lived as I realised I now had to go through a field of about 60 cows with the gate 2or3 hundred yards away. I set off briskly but quite quickly a couple of young (but large) cows approached me. This was mildly disconcerting but then I saw Mum (6ft high and weighing about a ton) get interested and start trotting towards me. I quickened my pace and shooed a couple of other cows out of my path. I was now moving at the pace of an Olympic walker but as I looked around I had 4or5 full size cows trotting after me with several youngsters behind. I didn’t want to run but with the gate 50 or so yards away I was wondering if I would make it. I got to the gate which was stiff and opened inwards but I managed to open it a foot and squeeze through. I slammed it shut and turned to face dozens of cows arriving at speed ( see photos). I don’t know if they were chasing me off or just curious but either way there was a serious risk of me being trampled.
I tried shooing them from my side of the gate but they weren’t moving. After gathering my wits I pressed on but only to face another field full of cows a few hundred yards down the river. I now had a dilemma. I couldn’t go back as I didn’t want a repeat of my previous experience. I picked up a large tree branch climbed the stile and started to tiptoe around the edge of the field. I got about 50 yards before a young cow spotted me and trotted over. His Mum was also showing interest and was up on her feet looking at me. I realised I could not make the field exit so I straddled the barbed wire fence out of harms way. Unfortunately I was now on a small bit of land with the river on three sides of me and cows on the other. I waited hoping the cows would get bored but in fact more got interested and if I went back into the field there was no escape route. The barbed wire fence was right on the edge of the river with about an 8 ft drop to the water.
After much pondering I decided there was no option but to go into the river. Luckily I was at a very wide bit so the water seemed shallower. I emptied my pockets into my rucksack grabbed my stick and stepped into the water heading for the opposite bank. There was quite a current and I was glad I had my stick. The water was just above my knees but I made it over without incident but then I had a tricky and muddy climb up the other bank. Whilst I was squelching along my spirits were high to have dodged the cows. This euphoria was short lived. I came to a stream which I was confident I could cross but as I stepped into the water about 10 cows heads appeared over the fence. There wasn’t actually a footpath on this side of the river and I couldn’t easily get into the field but several bellowing cows told me it wasn’t a good idea anyway.
I retraced my steps and decided the best option was to cross the river again but at an angle so I would be near the end of the cows field and could make a dash for it. So it was back into the water with my essential stick and I crossed trying to arrive at the bank the other side 100 yards further up. It went reasonably well and I climbed into a bit of scrubland on the other side. It was treacherous in there and I fell twice, once into a bed of nettles, but it got me further down the river before I was forced to step back into the cow field. It turned out not to be a problem as the cows were too far away to be bothered with me and I was quickly out of the field and back on a muddy but safe path.
Just at that point I got a message from Shep saying he had got Wordle in 2. This was about as miraculous as my escape from the cows so I rang him. I needed to tell someone about my experience and Shep was just the man as he showed just the right amount of concern amongst his obvious amusement.
After that everything was an anti climax. I walked through a National Trust property and I was soon at The Black Swan Culgaith where I’ve enjoyed an excellent meal.
It was quite a long walk today and I was feeling tired at the finish, perhaps it’s all the excitement. I’ve washed my socks but I don’t think the boots will dry now before I’m back in Deeping!!
Looking forward to walking with Tony tomorrow.

Some (Unorganized) Musings On A Year In the Unoverse
With Worlds 2023 over, it has been officially a year, more or less, of me having become a fan of Shoma, as I started following him at Worlds 2022 (so not exact year but I figured Worlds is easier to track than exact dates, sue me), so I felt like sharing some unasked for thoughts.
So this whole mess started with the Olympics, when figure skating was trending just about every day on tumblr. “But Wolf,” you might say, “Didn’t you say you became a fan of Shoma at Worlds?” Well, yes, cause see, it wasn’t Shoma that caught my attention, it was Yuzu. I saw gifs of him and people stressing over him showing up and found it mesmerizing, so I decided to follow along with his short.
Well, we all know what happened at the short. The cursed hole.
Anyway, I watched a few of his other performances, mainly Notte Stellata and Hope & Legacy at Worlds 2017 and Ballade No. 1 at the 2018 Olys. And during all this, the doping scandal was going on and I got to watch, real time (I would look at live updates on the figure skating subreddit) as all that drama unfolded and got to witness the nonsense that was the IOC and ISU. Well, that soured me some, I feel, that plus the Olys being in Beijing and not having the energy to watch it all for one skater meant I didn’t watch the free, alas. I tried watching the gala, but that was my first real experience with how garbage skating coverage is in the US, but I did get to see Haru Yo Koi. It was beautiful.
And, by all indications, that was going to be it.
But wait, isn’t this supposed to be about Shoma? We’re getting to that, be patient! Why are you reading this anyway, I’m not important. This is just me rambling. Unorganized rambling where I’m getting the order of things and the exact circumstances confused...
Anyway, fast forward to Worlds a month later. I didn’t really care, tbh, I was still watching the subreddit, I think. And thing is, Yuzu wasn’t quite clicking with me. He is an amazing skater, but something wasn’t clicking with me that clicked with other people. I still liked him, and I loved watching his performances, very moving, but something was... missing for me. And as he would retire after Worlds, I may very well have left my brief look into figure skating at that.
Unfortunately, I saw this other Japanese skater wearing this gorgeous red costume do happy hops after completing his short at Worlds and I went, “oh I love him.”
AND I WAS DOOMED, I TELL YOU, DOOMED.
That was Shoma after finishing his short at Worlds. I don’t know if I saw it on twitter (twitter, that site I hadn’t logged into for over a year at that point and would wind up deleting once ownership changed, but I could still browse) or reddit or here, but I saw it and I loved it. Something about that grabbed me. I watched him do his free, I watched that glorious step sequence at the end and him claim his first World medal. I was hooked. My attention had been grabbed.
Why did Shoma catch my attention when Yuzu hadn’t, when I didn’t even watch Shoma’s performances at the Olys? I don’t know. Maybe it was cause Yuzu would wind up retiring after Worlds. Maybe it was something about the triumphant nature of Bolero at Worlds. Maybe it was the costumes. Maybe it was *sigh* the atmosphere of Yuzu’s fanbase was... not something I particularly liked. Maybe it was Shoma’s story of him going through a tough coachless year and him finding Stephane and how it all culminated, ultimately, in that first Worlds medal. Maybe it was cause, while Yuzu seemed like a spirit of the ice given human form to grace us with his beautiful skating, Shoma seemed like Just A Guy who went out there and Did His Best (and turned out his best was damn good), and I found him more relatable, ultimately, as I learned more about him as a person who loves sleeping and eating meat and hates vegetables. Mood.
Maybe I’m just gay and thought Shoma was more attractive than Yuzu. Maybe this all happened cause I’m very shallow.
Regardless, I became part of the Unoverse. I wound up keeping up with a lot of relevant twitter accounts even though I could only observe, wishing all of them were on tumblr. I followed several Unoverse tumblrs here (special shoutouts to @myjunkisyuzuruhanyu and @vilyae for all the info and pictures and such), I read the figure skating subreddit. I watched the fans deal with... an annoying amount of hate from others for reasons that infuriated and befuddled me. I learned way too much about the season schedules.
I watched Turandot at the 2018 Olys. I watched his triumphant DOMO at JNats 2019 (god, those twizzles. And that utter happiness during the step sequence). I watched La Vie En Rose at MoI 2019 (that skate is so beautiful and gentle...). I would slowly watch all of his programs at least once over the year and fall that cantilever every single time...
I watched his videos on his own YT channel where he could not do English, even as I myself didn’t understand a word he said. I watched Unowan and him constantly being attacked by puppies. I saved way too many pictures to my phone (as of this writing, 2434 photos).
I watched as the fans waited for him to announce his programs for the season. I watched the first performances of Gravity and Aria in shows. I then... got to experience the joys of watching figure skating in the United States without a VPN or Peacock. I wound up watching Aria from Skate Canada on NBC’s “highlights” broadcast, but for every other performance of the GP (INCLUDING THE GPF, WHY WASN’T THE GPF PROPERLY TAPED FOR A BROADCAST ACROSS ALL DISCIPLINES) I had to stick to embed videos on twitter, ultimately, besides maybe a few here and there on youtube (for whatever reason, it seems to me his programs this season are really hard to find on YT versus every other program he has, it’s annoying). I got to see him finally win the GPF. I got to finally watch a good performance of Padam, Padam from JNats on YT (before it got taken down).
And then I got to witness the emotional roller coaster that was this Worlds as he struggled with injury and I prayed he wouldn’t injure himself further and hopefully take the victory and defend his World Champion status.
And he did. I didn’t watch it live cause time zones, but I watched Aria on NBC’s highlights and saw it. It was a good thing to wake up to. The utter joy and finding out he’s the first Japanese man to win consecutive golds in Worlds.
And now here we are. There’s still WTT, but I still wanted to write this, now. Then the season will be over and we’ll be in the offseason, waiting for shows (including him and Yuzu skating together at SoI!), waiting for new program announcements. For it all to start again. There was a small article about him winning Worlds in my local paper today, and I was so happy. I hope to keep it.
I am... still not all that invested in figure skating as a whole, ultimately. If he retired tomorrow (he’s not retiring, for the record), I would peace out then and there. Even without the... Everything regarding the ISU and such (please don’t let Russia back in...), watching this sport in the US is... hard, and I don’t have investment in other skaters to make an effort, for better or worse. That’s not a slight on them, I just have other things in my life.
Still, I’ll be here until he does retire, and I hope that he’ll skate as long as he’s happy and healthy doing it. And maybe he’ll make it to the 2026 Olys and finally get that gold.
Ganbatte Shoma!

Incoherent post because I’m not articulate but like. I feel like some people on here lack conflict avoidance because they spent too much of their adolescence/young adulthood getting into tumblr discourse style interactions where they’re quick to anger, slow to give anyone the benefit of the doubt, and incapable of realizing that they might be wrong sometimes. Like truly if getting righteously angry online (at times entirely unnecessarily) was an Olympic sport they’d all be getting gold. I don’t know where you get the energy to live like that I actively try to avoid getting angry over online shit because I think it’s poisonous to the spirit and mind. Sometimes I’ll get an ask from one of these type trying to start some shit over a misunderstanding and I’ll just delete it and go about my day peacefully, you won’t be getting callout post material out of me babygirl 🙏. Crosshair as an Angel of Death (A Continuation)
A continuation of this post that I made about how Crosshair is metaphorically an angel of death. This post contains lore from religion, mythology and a fun cryptid fact I found about a bird that might just spoil things for Crosshair's future.
The first thing to talk about is the Angel of Death. Technically, an angel of death is also a synonym for a psychopomp, but for now let's talk about the Angel of Death from the 10 Plagues. In the book of Exodus, the Tenth Plague is the death of the Firstborn, and God sent a destroying angel (the angel of death) to go punish the Pharaoh by killing every firstborn of Egypt while passing over the Israelites' firstborn after commanding Moses and Israelites to paint their doors with lambs blood.
A famous Angel of Death is Archangel Azrael. Azrael is not mentioned in the Bible, but he is found in Islamic text and his role is that he goes to the souls of people who are dying to take them to Allah. But, it only happens when he is ordered to do so. In some text, he gives righteous people a soft guide to Allah, but if there the person is a horrible sinner, their soul will be meet with a harsh trip to Hell.
Are Angels of Death evil deities? No, they are divine beings who do their job and act in accordance to God/Allah.
Now, the psychopomp: Thanatos
In Ancient Greek mythology, Thanatos is the God of Death and is the twin brother to Hypnos (Sleep). In myth, Thanatos and Hypnos are the sons of Nyx and do their job in carrying the souls of the death to the Underworld, but Hypnos is regarded as the kind one, while everyone from the Olympic Gods to mortal have a hatred for coldhearted Thanatos for just doing his job.
There's tale I always remember about Thanatos and how hated he is for being a death god. King Sisyphus had an issue with dying and made a plan to escape Death. Once Thanatos came knocking, Sisyphus chained him and made him a prisoner, thus he gained immortally. Yet, once Thanatos was chained, everyone became immortal and death became meaningless, which angered Ares, the God of War, for war is supposed to cause death and victory to the winning side. Ares went to Sisyphus and freed Thanatos, but Sisyphus kept running from Thanatos until his actual death, but Thanatos was so insulted that he gave the retrieval role to Hermes.
The man was just doing his job, and people bash him to the point that once they realize how important he was, a literal WAR GOD had to save him.
The last tidbit was just me finding about birds. Apparently, in Maori mythology, there's this bird called the Hakawai. It lives in the heavens, and goes to earth at night to prey on people. It's a red, white and black bird of prey and is considered a bad omen because then there's suffering later on.
From what I've gathered, Crosshair has a ton of similarities to every deity and the Hakawai from the first time we've seen him to now. Crosshair is a bad omen to his enemies as he brings death and destruction. Yet, he is not a bad person per say. He was literally born into his role as a bringer of death by the Kaminoans and he had no chance to change it until it broke his spirit. He has killed for duty, loyalty and family. He is a broken man who's finally willing to be free of his chains, but is still imprisoned by the Empire.
Yet, if we also look at the fact that he is still able to be saved, then Crosshair is going to free because his brother and sister are going to save him. And in doing so, he's going to become an Angel of Death to the Empire. He's ready to reap their souls to every clone they broken and he's not stopping till he meets Death itself.

244. Big List of Favorite Commercials part 15.
(part 14) (entire series)
AT&T - Streamlining Business {featuring The World Trade Center in NY} (1996)
This isn't a favorite commercial, more of an awkward commercial. I understand that the 1996 Olympics were in Atlanta, but why footage of New York City and a pole vaulter vaulting over the World Trade Center? What's that gotta do with Atlanta? I mean there is a scene in the commercial that almost looks exactly like 9/11.
1984 Canada Dry "Holiday Spirit party starter" TV Commercial
These creepy doll mannequins, I love them! They look like they're made of pantyhose or something.
Butterball Turkey - Thanksgiving Commercial 1985
They had such little faith in Marion.
1986 Panasonic Wet Dry Shavers "Hairy, moms coming to dinner" TV Commercial
"Just because she thinks you're a bum, doesn't mean you have to look like one...", I mean, he slept through an electric shave, that seems pretty "sleeps all day like a bum" to me.
1988 - Jonny Cat
I mean, a baby tuxedo kitten!
WPIX 11 - TV Station Promo - 1987 - Cheers Theme
The three stressed out people (so wait, the dad left the baby right after getting home? Or is that is spouse next to him?) trying to convincingly interact with a "green screened" in Sam Malone is hilarious.
80s Commercial | NBC promos | Al Roker | Willard Scott | Don Pardo | 1984 & 1985
Okay, New Yorkers, help me out here, was "Live at Five" a news broadcast or like, a tv magazine show? Or both? Who doesn't love a baby Al Roker?
TBS - Family Matters Promo - 1995
The description from the uploader says it all:
One of the most horrible, wonderful things you'll ever watch.
1983 Kmart After Christmas Sale Commercial
Ohhh snap, this commercial predicted the future of Kmart.
Zales Jewelers 80s Christmas Commercial (1986)
I want every single piece of jewelry in this commercial.
